Police in Northumbria, England, say they have tracked down and issued warnings to six people who left offensive comments on the department's Facebook page on a post about a sex grooming gang. The comments referred to the race and religion of members of the gang. All of the members of the gang were of Asian or Eastern European descent while all of their victims were of white British origin.

The Bristol child sex abuse ring was a group of 13 Somali men who committed sexual offences against underage teenage girls in Bristol, in southwestern England.

The Derby child sex abuse ring was a group of men who sexually abused up to a hundred girls in Derby, England.[1][2][3] In 2010, after an undercover investigation by Derbyshire police, members of the ring were charged with 75 offences relating to 26 girls. Nine of the 13 accused were convicted of grooming and raping girls between 12 and 18 years old.[1][2] The attacks provoked fierce discussion about race and sexual exploitation.[4]

The Keighley child sex abuse ring was a group of twelve men who committed serious sexual offences against two under-aged white girls in the English town of Keighley and city of Bradford, West Yorkshire. Operation Doublet is an investigation set up in 2012 by Greater Manchester Police into child sexual exploitation in Rochdale and other areas of Greater Manchester, England. The Oxford child sex abuse ring was a group of seven men who, in May 2013, were convicted of sexual offences including rape, conspiracy to commit rape, arranging or facilitating child prostitution, trafficking for sexual exploitation, and procuring a miscarriage. The Rotherham child sexual exploitation scandal has been described as the "biggest child protection scandal in UK history".[13] From the late 1980s until the 2010s, organised child sexual abuse continued almost unchallenged by legal authorities[14] in the northern English town of Rotherham, South Yorkshire. The Telford child sex abuse ring consisted of a group of men who were grooming local children for sex between 2007 and 2009 in Telford in the English county of Shropshire. Up to 100 girls are believed to have been affected[1] and around 200 perpetrators were suspected.[2] According to the Home Office, as of 2015 Telford had the highest rate in the UK of sex crimes against children.[3]

In a series of trials stretching over two years and concluding in May 2013,[4] seven men, mainly British Pakistanis, were convicted of sexual offences against four girls aged 13 to 16. The offences included rape, controlling child prostitution, causing child prostitution, and trafficking for the purpose of prostitution.

Call for inquiry

In September 2016, the Conservative MP for Telford, Lucy Allan, called for an inquiry.[7] She said she had had a meeting with a victim of the abuse, who told her that many of the worst offenders had not been prosecuted and were still living in the area. Allan said that she would be asking the prime minister, Theresa May, to take action.[8]
