Just 32 seconds after entering the floor of a Melbourne, Australia, night club hosting a swingers party, a police SWAT team opened fire on a couple having sex. The two were dressed as the Joker and Harley Quinn, and the man had a toy gun, which someone had called to report. Security at the club told cops the gun was a toy and asked them to send an undercover officer in to confirm that. Police ignored them.

In the hour leading up to the shooting, police are also understood to have observed the man from a monitor in an office on the ground floor of the venue. They had been told by a security guard that the gun was a plastic replica.

The police had a history of hassling the club. Sounds like they decided they had an excuse to roust the place again and someone got excited in the moment and panic fired.

As usual, the people who put the guy(s) who opened fire in that position should be held accountable for their contemptible decisions. But they won't.

The first shot was fired just after 3.54am on Saturday morning, but CCTV footage shows four police officers first entering the building at 2.52am.

So prompt means 7 seconds, if preceded by an hour of dithering about.
Appropriate means shooting when you know the other 'gun' is a toy.

2. The club has bathroom facilities designated by sex. Why was this not cited as a violation of political correctness?
3. He was shot in the back, as an immediate threat to the officer (?). She was shot in the leg. Is there a prize for guessing what sex act was in progress?
4. The outraged club owner seems to forget that the incident was triggered by the club calling in a complaint about a gun known to be fake.
5. Another glaring example of why, where guns are illegal, cops should not have guns either.
6. Australia does not have an equivalent to our second amendment, and has banned guns, so why would the cops even expect the gun to be real?

Regarding 6, my understanding is that there are tons of guns in Australia. They did the usual approach of requiring registration and then using that for confiscation. But unsurprisingly not very many complied with registration, and gun ownership is still relatively common. Especially outside the cities.

Well, yes. of course. I believe the turn in rate was around 22%. But that does not stop the gun control addicts here where there is supposedly a constitutional right. Main point is that even real 'gun control' doesn't work out very well in eliminating 'gun violence'. It just creates a bunch of criminals.
