Brickbat: I'm the Goddamn Batman

'Suicide Squad'
'Suicide Squad,' WB

Just 32 seconds after entering the floor of a Melbourne, Australia, night club hosting a swingers party, a police SWAT team opened fire on a couple having sex. The two were dressed as the Joker and Harley Quinn, and the man had a toy gun, which someone had called to report. Security at the club told cops the gun was a toy and asked them to send an undercover officer in to confirm that. Police ignored them.

  1. Bat lives matter.

  2. Police superintendent:

“If you look at all the circumstances when a gun is aimed at you, and you ask somebody to drop the gun and that does not occur, you need to make a split-second decision to protect yourself,” she said.

    the video

fails to substantiate allegations by management and staff that the man was not holding a weapon, or that he was attempting to pull his pants up when shot.

The man is understood to have been shot in the lower back,

    Missing from the summary:

In the hour leading up to the shooting, police are also understood to have observed the man from a monitor in an office on the ground floor of the venue. They had been told by a security guard that the gun was a plastic replica.

The police had a history of hassling the club. Sounds like they decided they had an excuse to roust the place again and someone got excited in the moment and panic fired.

As usual, the people who put the guy(s) who opened fire in that position should be held accountable for their contemptible decisions. But they won’t.

Australians Shocked by U.S. Killing: ‘It Would Have Never Happened Here’

    1. I blame guns.

  4. might have been a threesome w/ Robin…I understand that’s a shooting offence down under

  5. Law enforcing gigs attract a special type of stupid. The occupation attracts the fucking idiots and then it also hones the stupidity by protecting these morons from the normal consequences of stupidity.

  6. Well, at least this time it wasn’t the actual person who called the police who got shot by the police.

    1. oh yeah, that’s soooo comforting…now we’re all in danger any time the police show up, no more innocent bystanders!

      1. We’re all guilty of something. Just ask the cops.

  7. Random thoughts:
    1. “The public expects a prompt and appropriate response by police to calls such as this, particularly in our heightened security environment,”
The first shot was fired just after 3.54am on Saturday morning, but CCTV footage shows four police officers first entering the building at 2.52am.

So prompt means 7 seconds, if preceded by an hour of dithering about.
Appropriate means shooting when you know the other ‘gun’ is a toy.

    2. The club has bathroom facilities designated by sex. Why was this not cited as a violation of political correctness?
    3. He was shot in the back, as an immediate threat to the officer (?). She was shot in the leg. Is there a prize for guessing what sex act was in progress?
    4. The outraged club owner seems to forget that the incident was triggered by the club calling in a complaint about a gun known to be fake.
    5. Another glaring example of why, where guns are illegal, cops should not have guns either.
    6. Australia does not have an equivalent to our second amendment, and has banned guns, so why would the cops even expect the gun to be real?

    1. 2. The club has bathroom facilities designated by sex. Why was this not cited as a violation of political correctness?

At first I thought that said “designated for sex”.

I imagine Australia has laws requiring men’s and women’s bathrooms.

      1. I first read it as “designed by sex,” which didn’t make any sense.

      2. i read it as designated for sex too lol

    2. Regarding 6, my understanding is that there are tons of guns in Australia. They did the usual approach of requiring registration and then using that for confiscation. But unsurprisingly not very many complied with registration, and gun ownership is still relatively common. Especially outside the cities.

      1. Well, yes. of course. I believe the turn in rate was around 22%. But that does not stop the gun control addicts here where there is supposedly a constitutional right. Main point is that even real ‘gun control’ doesn’t work out very well in eliminating ‘gun violence’. It just creates a bunch of criminals.

  8. This is in response to that Australian women who was shot by the Somali American cop

Australian police wanted to show they are just as incompetent

    1. Australia for the win…at least for today. Stupid cop tricks will return tomorrow for more adventures in stupidity with our boys in blue!

      1. Same Bat time, same Bat channel!

    2. For the record, this story is from July 11th, before that happened.

      1. soooo retroactive stupidity?

  9. The moral here is, if you’re going to a sex club, keep your gun in you’re pocket. But then, what’s the point?

  10. I found a great site that focuses on stay at home mom’s complete guide to gaining a serious amount of money in very little time. Trump”s New Opprunuties See Here

  11. Correct me if I’m wrong here chief but doesn’t ever couple that has sex hold a pistol at some point during the act?

  12. So…there were just 2 people in that lounge area. Even if 1 had a real gun pointed at the other, why’d the police have to shoot both?!!

    1. do you even have to ask? I mean really…
