Your Presidential Frontrunners Discuss the Internet

Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton: compare 'n' contrast

|

Hello, Internet.

Donald Trump discussing the Internet, on Monday:

"We're losing a lot of people because of the internet," Trump said. "We have to see Bill Gates and a lot of different people that really understand what's happening. We have to talk to them about, maybe in certain areas, closing that internet up in some ways. Somebody will say, 'Oh freedom of speech, freedom of speech.' These are foolish people."

Hillary Clinton discussing the Internet, on Sunday:

Hillary Clinton said Sunday that the Islamic State had become "the most effective recruiter in the world" and that the only solution was to engage U.S. technology companies in blocking or taking down militants' websites, videos and encrypted communications. "You are going to hear all the familiar complaints: 'Freedom of speech,'" Clinton said…

  1. Which one is basically Adam Lanza though?

  2. What if that is a time-travelling photo of the 2017 inaugural ball?

  3. Which one is Big Douche and which is Turd Sandwich?

    Oh, wait, douche. Nevermind.

  4. I bet that night was something special for both of them, back when their skin was still elastic. Now it would be like trying to pull apart two different colors of Playdoh that have been smushed together.

    1. Are you treading into SugarFree territory, Hugh? You really don’t want to go there.

      *shudders*

        1. Also, this has to be from some SF story, because there’s no way it’s real.

  5. Hillary has been battling the open and free internet since back when Trump was still a Democrat.

    1. Exactly this. With Trump, no one really knows what we’re getting. With Hillary, we know exactly what we’re getting. And that’s a big problem. Neocon war mongering, anti-liberty corrupt old hag.

      1. Hillary doesn’t want to deport people en masse. Trump may not believe what he says but he may not care. It’s pretty obvious she-evil is better than Trump.

        1. Hillary is the worst combination of neocon war monger and corrupt crony, combined with a tendency to pander to the hard left. Compared to Hillary, Obama would be the best president ever.

So Hillary hasn’t said she’ll deport anyone and to you, that’s all that matters.

I’m not voting for either of them, but if you think that anyone is worse than Hillary, you have a lot to learn. And I certainly hope you do not get to learn it the hard way.

          1. You are mistaken. Hillary is a weather vane she will go where she is blown. That is a vast improvement over Obama.

Cronyism is not the worst. Outright leftism is.

            1. she will go where she is blown

That pandering drops severely once the person is in the highest office.

              1. To be fair, her husband seemed to go where he was blown, even in the oval office!

          2. Trump is the one candidate that would make me vote for Hillary. If Trump won, with a GOP Congress, he would pass a bunch of batshit insane stuff, just because the GOP would do anything for a TEAM RED president. You wanna repeal Obamacare? Good luck- and trump will replace it with something worse.

The opposite would be true for Hillary. Congress will cock block her every chance they get- even for plans they might otherwise support.

            1. This. Hyperion has completely forgotten about who controls the Congress.

President Trump would not only be bad for America it would ruin the GOP. Yes even worse than now.

            2. I will vote LP. Not like one vote matters anyway, especially in my state.

        2. “It’s pretty obvious she-evil is better than Trump.”

          IS that obvious??

I tend to overvalue foreign policy, but what I see when I look at the two is one who opposed war in Iraq (but now supports it), opposed war in Libya, opposes war in Yemen, and opposes war in Syria, compared with someone who supported and supports war in Iraq, orchestrated the war in Libya, and supports war in both Yemen and Syria. Clinton is more bloodthirsty than any of the Republican frontrunners.

And while Trump’s views are appalling, most of his horrible suggestions are flat-out unconstitutional, illegal, impossible, or some combination of the three. So while he /wants/ to round up and deport people, I don’t think he’s actually capable of doing that. Whereas Clinton is definitely capable of involving us in more bloody wars just so her friends can make a buck.

      2. You’re going to have to be more specific than that.

        1. You mean about why Hillary is bad? You can just ask me what’s not bad about her. That would be much easier. Otherwise I’m going to need a very large notebook.

          1. Nope, I meant about:

Neocon war mongering, anti-liberty corrupt old hag.

Doesn’t sufficiently distinguish the two candidates from each other.

  6. Everybody on 3….

    1,2,3…FUCK OFF, SLAVERS!

  7. If only we had a cool, young, non-threatening ethnic president who understood the web and internet culture.

    1. We almost had one, but he couldn’t figure out how to turn on them intertoobz. So he was relegated to learning about world events in the newspapers, just like everyone else.

  8. It’s worth pointing this sort of thing out to people who have suddenly become enamored with the terrorist watch list. Why should people on that list have unfettered internet access? Why should their web browsing and e-mail not be monitored 24/7?

    1. I was under this impression that everyone’s email and internet, and phone calls are being monitored. Pretty sure that includes the terrorists. So it’s all good, right?

      1. Yes. That’s how they headed off a terrorist attack in San Bernardino last week.

    2. The people that support the list (left and right) don’t see the monitoring as a problem. As long as their team is the one doing the monitoring.

  9. I keep telling you, dude, just take this to the logical conclusion and issue banning orders, already.

  10. The funny thing is that the Trumpaloozers never seem to know about much of anything that this guy says. It’s easy to verify. Just go to any article about Trump on another site, say WaPo, and ask if everyone knows that he said it? His supporters will be like ‘uh, duh, no, when, where, what?’ And it’s just as well, because whatever he said, he’ll say the opposite next week once he realizes what he said was noticed by a few people and is probably not a very popular stance, even among his brain dead supporters.

So here we have 2 front runners, neither of whom believe that free speech is a valid reason to restrain from doing something that might infringe on free speech? Libertarian moment!

Just keep this in mind. Trump doesn’t actually mean what he’s saying, he’s just saying the first thing that comes to mind to see what sort of reaction he gets. Did anyone notice it and if so, was it popular? If not, he’ll say the opposite tomorrow or next week. When Hillary says this sort of thing, she actually means it, be afraid, be very afraid.

    1. I think people like him more for the enemies he makes than most of what he says. They know he’s just a blustery loose cannon.

      1. I know it’s that. His popularity is that he says whatever pops into his head and he won’t apologize. He’s also antagonizing the hell out of Obama and people love that because Obama is such a self righteous prick. Really, no one can stand the guy outside of his hard left following. Most people just won’t admit it because they don’t want to be declared racist.

        1. Is there no disagreement with libertarianism that you won’t put down to some conspiracy theory?

          1. Who said anything about a conspiracy?

Hyperion is merely referring to the venerable tradition of keeping your yap shut if you know some shouty cunt is going to lose it if you say what you really think.

            1. Maybe “conspiracy” is a poor word choice in this case, but it’s still insinuating some sort of ulterior motive.

          2. What conspiracy theory are you talking about, SusanM? I’m a little lost here.

          3. I’m curious what part of the post sounds conspiracy theoryey to you?

Because I’ve actually been called a racist for not agreeing with Obama’s policies.

    2. And by saying this, I am not supporting Trump, at all. I will never vote for the guy. Sure, Trump is capable of doing terrible things, but I think he will only do something if he believes it will make him more popular. Otherwise, he will rethink it and back down. Hillary is set in her ways and she’s going to do what Hillary wants no matter what anyone thinks. Which I think makes her worse. With Trump, it’s like a 50/50 chance he’ll do the right thing or not. With Hillary, it’s 100% assured she’ll do the worst every single time.

      1. Can’t agree with this at all. A lot of the bullshit Trump says is very popular and I don’t want that shit to pass. Iean towards some immigration restriction, but the shit he is talking about is obscenely bad. With a GOP congress he might actually get much of that shit through. Remember, it was with Bush and a GOP congress that we got No Child Left Behind, DHS, Medicare Drug Benefits, and all sorts of other shit that would have been fought tooth and nail if a Dem president had proposed it.

The only thing we can hope for is deadlock if Hill and Trump get the nominations.

  11. I am all for free speech but there are limits.

    1. And penalties.

    2. The more vague the limits are the better.

  12. Somebody will say, ‘Oh freedom of speech, freedom of speech.’ These are foolish people.

This cretinous pustule is permitted to spout his pernicious hogwash unmolested. Perhaps he has a point.

  13. Who was the idiot savant who wanted the government to cause computers to self-immolate while illegally downloading music?

    I think we’ve found a new target.

  14. So here we have 2 front runners, neither of whom believe that free speech the Constitution is a valid reason to restrain from doing something

    Bipartisan Coalitionism, FTW!

    1. Yeah, it never fails to amaze me that most people don’t realize that “bipartisan” means “lowest common denominator”.

  15. “Why can’t we have the worst of both worlds?”

  16. None of the above. Apparently Cruz is polling well in Iowa. I could vote for him.
