Nick Gillespie Talking Free Minds, Free Markets, Milton Friedman, and More: The "Outstanding Ohioans" Podcast!
I was recently interviewed in Oxford, Ohio, where I live part of the time, by Ron Siliko, who runs a podcast series called "Outstanding Ohioans." It's a wide-ranging and fun conversation, covering everything from plans to shrink the size, scope, and spending of government to how I stumbled across Reason and Milton Friedman as a young kid, and why immigration is central to my understanding of "Free Minds and Free Markets."

Should have read Free Minds, Free Markets and Friedman
What's with all the patriarchy in libertarian circles? Fried-man, suder-man, rich-man. I say we change Nick's last name to Gillespie-woman to even it out. Who's with me?!?
/I have a cold and this is where my foggy-meth brain took me
I think "Good Queen Nick" would do just nicely.
It's a well-known fact that Ohio is the fifth worst state.
I dunno, I like it there. People seem nice. Of course I live in New York so that's not saying much.
Is Michigan number 1 or Illinois?
Michigan and Illinois both border the Great Lakes. States that border the Great Lakes are the best states. Michigan borders four Great Lakes and even lends it's name to one making it as good as any two other states at least.
The worst states border the Gulf of Mexico.
I was with you until the 3rd sentence.
Pennsylvania is the worst because it harbors Philadelphia, which is the worst thing in the history of the universe.
Almost correct. Only Michigan and Ann Arbor + Detroit are worse.
I think they're calling it "Ann Arbaugh" now.
Does it help or hurt that Warty lives there?
It's actually the worst state, I'm sorry Thee worst state. That's why no one should ever come here.
I see what you did there.
You are incorrect.
If you say otherwise, I will fight you.
Before I listen to the podcast, I need to know. Is The Jacket on the podcast? Cause I don't want to sit through the whole thing and find out, no jacket.
""Ohioans."
1) i just call them "Ho's"
2) When screechy Neil Young songs and.... Cleveland... and....ugh. Forget it. I'll just go back to never thinking about Ohio unless there's a football game on.
Never trust anyone who thinks noodles are ok to eat in chili.
DEAR FUCKING GOD
This is why i never think about Ohio
The mistake was in calling it chili. It's really Cincinnati Bolognese.
Sloopy makes it all the time. I didn't get it until I added hot sauce, onions, and grated cheese. Then I got it.
"hot sauce, onions, and grated cheese. Then I got it."
Noted = Crusty old sweatsocks are also palatable with hotsauce, onions, and grated cheese
Thank you. The 5-way is sublime drunk and/or fat people food. Protip: you can add a little grated garlic and to make the little-known 6-way.
I love it too. Of course, we can only get Gold Star here. Skyline pulled out of Lexington two decades ago.
There's a pair of Skylines up here. I haven't had Gold Star since...1996? Yeah, I think that was the year we left Cincy.
What's the tiny little chain in Covington? Queen City Chili or something like that? That's the only place I'm aware of that does the 6-way.
Dixie Chili? They have locations in Covington, Newport and Erlanger.
It's pretty good, as I remember it. Been a few years.
Man I hate Skyline. Its awful
Fuck this Kentucky noodle-meat-sauce subthread.
Dammit, I'm now greatly craving Cincinnati Chili while stuck in AZ.
This is why Cincinnati is really in Kentucky.

"Greece's new leftist finance minister clashed openly with his powerful German counterpart on Thursday as Athens' borrowing costs leapt and bank shares plunged following the European Central Bank's decision to stop funding the country's lenders.
...
The Athens Stock Exchange FTSE Banks Index .FTATBNK plunged 22.6 percent initially and ended 10 percent down. Three-year government borrowing costs leapt to nearly 20 percent, leaving Greece utterly shut out of the capital markets.
..."Greece won't take orders any more, especially orders through emails," Tsipras told his left-wing parliamentary group, denying that he had returned empty-handed from a European tour. "Greece cannot be blackmailed because democracy in Europe cannot be blackmailed."
Isn't 'Blackmail' what people do when they *want something from you*?... and not the other way around?
because I don't see millions of Germans demanding that they continue to fund the Greek economy.
When you visit Ohio is it true that you have to bring your own water?
Not if you get all your shots in advance
We only drink beer so couldn't hurt
Water is merely a vehicle for beer.
If someone would just evacuate and then nuke Oberlin, Ohio would improve three-fold.
But then where would attractive, sweet high school girls go to learn how to be miserable, overweight pseudointellectuals?
Brown still exists. And Rutgers.
Bard
Why waste time evacuating it?
Because I'm no Cytotoxic.
You should first move the ATC Cleveland Center building somewhere else. It's sort of a massively busy air corridor.
