Vote Republican for Limited Government
We've seen how abusive the IRS, DoJ, and NSA are under Democrats, says Sen. Rand Paul. Let's change course.

This article is part of a series on the libertarian vote in the 2014 midterm election. Read the alternative perspectives from other parties here and here.
It is apparent now more than ever that our government has grown out of control—and under Democratic leadership, it will only continue to infringe upon our civil liberties. Currently, this Democratic leadership is telling you how to run your businesses, telling you which doctor to see, telling you what you can and cannot eat, and monitoring your phone calls and data without a warrant.
Our Founding Fathers wrote the Bill of Rights to protect us, and our current Democratic leadership is trampling all over these protections. President Obama and the Democrats who support him think that violating American citizen's right to privacy is essential for national security and that proves just how out-of-touch and out of control our government has become.
Under Democratic leadership, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has targeted political dissidents, the Department of Justice has seized reporters' phone records, and the NSA has seized an unlimited amount of cell phone data. This is an all-out assault on the Constitution.
In his farewell speech in 1989, Ronald Reagan said: "As government expands, liberty contracts."
He was right. Government cannot give us our liberty, and as government grows, liberty becomes marginalized. The collective takes precedent over the individual— and freedom shrinks.
Our government today is larger than it has ever been in the history of our country.
Our Founder's would be ashamed at what our government has become. Micromanaging the daily lives of citizens is not the duty of government. But the GOP is taking a stand—we are saying enough is enough.
It is the Republican party that is trying to limit government power and this is an ideal that all libertarians firmly believe in and support. If we want to protect our civil liberties, we must come together. And it's no secret that the Republican party desperately need libertarian support.
For too long, our party's platform has solely focused on national security and tax reform. And while those are important issues, it's not enough. Our party needs a facelift. We need a different kind of GOP that will speak to these infringements to personal liberty.
The GOP does not want to tell you how to live. In fact, we want to get out of your lives. We will not choose your doctor for you. We will not trespass on your first amendment right and dictate how to run your business. We also will not outlaw doughnuts or Big Gulps.
We will stay out of your bedroom, your doctor's office, your classroom, your business, your pantry, and your cell phone.
There are millions of Americans, young and old, native and immigrant, black, white and brown, who simply seek to live free—free to practice their religion, free to choose where they send their kids to school, free to choose their own healthcare, free to keep the fruit of their own labor, free to live without government constantly being on their back.
I believe a Republican Party that is more tolerant and dedicated to keeping the government out of people's personal business would be more appealing to the rising generation and libertarians alike.
The Constitution must be our guide. For conservatives to win nationally, we must stand for something. We must stand on principle. We must stand for something so powerful and so popular that it brings together people from the left and the right and the middle.
The GOP will revive Reagan's law: For liberty to expand, government must now contract. For the economy to grow, government must get out of the way.
Young Americans—conservative, libertarian, independent—are as fed up with big government as their parents and grandparents. We are the party that is willing to address their unique concerns and in doing so, we will build a new majority that might finally turn this country around.
The Republican Party is not perfect and there is some dissent within the ranks, but I need libertarian minded Republicans and libertarian independents to vote, get involved and run for office. The heart of the Republican Party embraces freedom and we need to vote and then massage the party to get the party to fight harder to implement a positive vision of economic freedom, low taxation and individual liberty.

Hang on to your shorts kiddies, the ride's about to start.
What ride is that? The ride to bigger government? The last time Republicans cut spending was in 1954.
IN all honesty, I thought this thread was going to go ballistic. But alas, I'll have to wait for the next homo-aborto-matrimonial blog entry.
How'd the GOP cut spending in 1954 when the House was in Dem hands?
Dems of 1954 != Dems of 2014
Oh wait, this is a "who has the power of the purse" comment...sorry
Oops, I guess technically it was 1955.
"What ride is that? The ride to bigger government? The last time Republicans cut spending was in 1954."
I like IKE.
Really? Compare the history of the GOP with what has happened in the Democratic party is just 6 years.
Bush was a terrible president and he added 5 trillion to the debt. The Democrats will have added 10 trillion to the debt in the same time. Debt at 17+ trillion is now over our 15 trillion GDP. In addition, we have 70 trillion in unfunded liabilities for SS and Medicare alone. The Democrats ignore this and instead add Obamacare, which we can't pay for long term either.
The NSA is spying on citizens, the WH is spying on journalists, the FEC is going to regulate free speech on the Internet, the world is in chaos. Time for a change.
Here's what I'll do. I'll vote for Rand.
Yup. Then when he doesn't become the R candidate I will once again vote L. I'll vote for Republicans or Democrats... if they espouse Libertarian values.
After all, I'm not a Leninist. Principles over party.
"I am the Walrus."
I thought you were the Egg Man?!
Shut the fuck up, Donnie.
You should include the clip.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-eDOJ4L0Edk
That sounds about right to me.
GSG: "Yup. Then when he doesn't become the R candidate I will once again vote L. I'll vote for Republicans or Democrats... if they espouse Libertarian values."
Could you envision a 2016 Libertarian candidate you would vote for rather than voting for Senator Paul?
You'd vote Libertarian rather than Rand Paul if it was Randolph Scott, wouldn't you?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?f.....oltDs#t=44
Rand's not running this year. You gonna write him in?
"We promise we've changed for real this time baby. We only hurt you because we're afraid of losing you."
He didn't say they changed. He said they need to change. He said the Reps need to become more libertarian. He said it as to not offend the rest of the republican base.
He was right on the money.
It's a thinly veiled call for a libertarians to take over the GOP. Micron-thin.
Which I strongly advocate.
So say we all.
Well, not all. Some of us say shut up and vote R and do as you're told.
So say we all.
So say we all.
Of course, if the govt handles Ebola like they handle everything else maybe we could depopulate NA into limited govt?
Taking over the GOP means taking over the GOP's baggage.
"See? They joined TEAM Red! As we all know, TEAM Red is Sexist/Racist/Homophobic/Othering! Therefore, libertarians are bad! This logic is flawless!"
....will be the reaction.
Starting from scratch is nearly impossible and the Libertarians have all the same nutty baggage.
Parties have been taken over before (socons, neocons...) and will be again. I see no reason it shouldn't be libertarians next time.
We can rebrand them. We have the technology.
+$1M
Six million...for cliff's sake.
Ted DiBiase was the Million Dollar Man. I'd say you're about $5M short on this reference though.
They'll do that anyway. If you're looking for fair treatment then you are going to lead a wretched futile quest.
""See? They joined TEAM Red! As we all know, TEAM Red is Sexist/Racist/Homophobic/Othering! Therefore, libertarians are bad! This logic is flawless!"
....will be the reaction."
The Left already says that about Libertarians. The Truth is irrelevant.
Many already say that about libertarians so wth? Rand Paul is more libertarian then many who are officially in the party like Barr (yikes)... voted for Baldwin that year.
You don't think that would be the same brush they would try to paint Lib candidates with if they were a major threat? Obviously with political attacks, it doesn't matter what's true, it only matters what you can get your idiot minions to parrot on national TV.
*snort*
"Don't worry guys, this time they aren't lying."
What a fucking joke.
So I'm supposed to vote Jeb Bush for prez? Hmmm.
So Rand is Lucy, and I'm supposed to be Charlie Brown?
Fuck that.
DON'T TALK ABOUT LUCY!!!
Beat me to it, dang it.
"Look, it says in our platform that we won't pull the football away like the other times."
"I just pulled the football away those other times because I didn't understand. Now I do! I really do! I've changed...."
*pulls away football while crying*
"The GOP does not want to tell you how to live. In fact, we want to get out of your lives." Simply false. I may vote for individual Republican candidates who advocate libertarian ideas and support libertarian policies (spoiler alert: there aren't too many), but to project these traits onto the party as a whole is just willful denial.
As ProL notes, Rand - I'd vote for you. But I'm not voting for any TEAM.
He needs to show that he's a loyal Republican war horse.
When Republicans put up a candidate in my area that is pro-liberty, I vote for that candidate. When they put up a candidate that sucks, I don't vote for that candidate.
It's not that hard, Republican Party. Put up candidates that are actually pro-liberty (don't just talk the talk) and you'll have my vote. Put up candidates that want to grow the war machine, destroy civil liberties, continue the drug war, etc. and I'll vote for someone else (or not vote).
I've had....two TEAM RED critters worth voting for in the 18 years I have been in this district, one Congress critter and a state rep...one TEAM BLUE dude, for sheriff.
Unfortunately, the Libertarians in IL only seem to run for statewide offices.
Nice bookend for the Terry Michaels piece:
Dem says vote Dem.
Rep says vote Rep.
I'm sure these shocking revelations will force the electorate out of its narcoleptic slumber.
Hey, it motivated me to vote early.... against all retention for judges and proposed amendments to the IL constitution and leave some spots blank (no "L" on the ballot) and vote for exactly one TEAM player.
NEEDZ MOAR LIBERTARIANS RUNNING IN IL
Which team player may I ask?
Rand, I believe you that that is the Republican party... if you were its king. The R's in reality? Nothing like you describe.
Based on what I've seen so far, I'll be happy to vote for you for Pres. But don't insult me and pretend that most of those other -R clowns want to shrink the government.
"The GOP does not want to tell you how to live. In fact, we want to get out of your lives. We will not choose your doctor for you. We will not trespass on your first amendment right and dictate how to run your business. We also will not outlaw doughnuts or Big Gulps."
I believe all those things about Paul, the rest of the party is another story. That's the damn shame of it though, I honestly believe that limited government and federalism could be extremely popular in the long run, but the elephants have taken the easy(big government) way out so many times the only thing they can say for themselves as a party is "at least we're not as bad as the other side".
I see Rand Palin is trying to put lipstick on a pig.
That pig's got a real purty mouth.
Squeal like a pig!
"Rand Palin"?
Just combining the Sarah Palin brouhaha from the 2008 election and Rand's attempt at propping up the GOP.
Thankfully, it didn't light the Shrike and Dunphy signals.
*thinks for a second*
Nah.
Do we get to vote for poet laureate? If so, I'm writing in SugarFree. As for any other races, who cares?
Tulpa for Secretary of Power Worshipping
shriek as Czar of the Retards
Speaking of Czars, who knew we had so many
Notables
Patronage Czar

Czar of Information
E-commerce Czar
goes on and on....
Tulpa for secretary of the CIA. He has an extensive background in covert ops, after all.
But his disguises suck.
This article serves two purposes: 1) It shows the GOP base and establishment that Rand is a 'team player' & 2) It is an unsubtle rallying call for libertarians to take over the GOP.
This article is probably *not* Rand's sincere thoughts. Sincerity is overrated, at least from pols.
Haven't yet read the comments but I am sure there's a lot of huffing and puffing over Rand's admittedly laughable claim that the GOP is on our side. But so what? He's just being smart. This is just another part of getting to President Paul in 2016.
Given their sparse numbers, libertarians had better get someone on their side if they want to have any effect on the way the country is governed.
They must come to us. And they are, slowly.
*libertarians had better get someone on their side if they want to have any effect on the way the country is governed.*
They've already got convicted felons, antiwar hippie slobs and cop-haters. ONWARDS TO VICTORY!
I'm not a convicted felon or an antiwar hippie slob but I am a cop-hater. You got me there.
"Given their sparse numbers, libertarians had better get someone on their side if they want to have any effect on the way the country is governed."
Sparse numbers?
How about this one....
100,000,000,000
That's the net worth of just one family (Kochs) who are financing the modern "libertarian" movement.
That's a lot of brainwashing, propoganda, 501- 3'c, institutions, publications and payola.
In the modern USA, where one dollar=one vote, the so-called "libertarians" have some big say and a direct line to a couple SCOTUS judges. That's real power.
"Billy Bones Says Libertarians Should Run As Libertarians (Not GOP) in 2014"
Billy Bones is wrong.
What FDA said. I'd like to add that the LP is still a stupid organization that runs bad candidates.
As opposed to the Dems and the Reps?
They're at least politically savvy.
And what they lack in political savvy they make up for with huge bags of money to rig the election system to 2 parties.
Too late, already voted. And not for any Republicans or Democrats.
Sorry Senator Paul, but I find it very difficult to believe that voting Republican will be a vote for "limited government". Using the word "libertarian" in conjunction with the word "Republican" tends to be misleading.
In my opinion, the average "voter" in the street doesn't see much difference between either party anyway, certainly not in connection with the word "limited".
What does "limited government" mean anyway? To date, when Republicans use that word, it seems to mean billions for defense (translation: foreign adventures) and cutting things down significantly on the domestic scene.
Sorry, but the call to vote Republican for "limited government" is not very convincing. Thanks for the article.
The Republican Party is not perfect and there is some dissent within the ranks...
And the dissent within the ranks, Dr. Paul, is coming from those of us who consider ourselves libertarian Republicans. I really do have no doubt that this is your vision of the Republican party. Hell, it's a vision I support. I'd even contend that it's the vision of the party most consistent with it's principles. But, at this point, it's just that - a vision. The reality of the party is that libertarianism is still an insurgent movement within the party up against a lot of opposition and by no means the nature of the party overall.
*The reality of the party is that libertarianism is still an insurgent movement within the party up against a lot of opposition and by no means the nature of the party overall.*
Something stopping you from running for office as a GOP member and affecting the change you want to see?
Likewise, the call to vote Democrat for "limited government" is utterly ridiculous.
"...we need to vote and then massage the party to get the party to fight harder ..."
I sense something Freudian going on here. Anything you care to tell us, Rand?
Sorry Rand but for the past fifty years, every time the Republicans win an election by campaigning on libertarian promises, they dry fuck us up the ass the second they get into office.
Warren,
Well said, and true. Somewhat crude and blunt, but right to the point nonetheless. And then when they (The Republicans) are out of office, they blame the Democrats for the disasters they (The Republicans) have created. But then the Democrats do the same thing. The real issue is that we have two worn out parties with no real new ideas who keep running the country. However, the LIBERtarianTINES are no better, although they pretend to be.
In California we have no LP choice, thanks to the "top 2" nonsense. Guess I'll stay home.
Libertarians will have a hard time taking over either party, because they're either extremely inflexible or cannot tailor their message in a populist way to appeal to a broader group. And their recent high profile candidates have a personality of a potato.
It's no small secret that parts of the GOP isn't at least openly hostile to libertarians, and have hybrid conservative / libertarians in places of power. But since the libertarian is dead set on hating the two major parties equally, any attempts by the GOP to obtain their support will be met by predictable response like "You only say you're libertarian, but you're not one of us."
It seems like libertarians refuse to evolve themselves or reach out to the demographic they need to implement their policies. They're just above invisible to the growing number of immigrants and minorities. I haven't seen a dynamic non white libertarian candidate who could appeal that group since.... not any time in recent memory.
If liberty and democracy can't coexist, that's an indication that it's time to get rid of democracy.
AAhhhaaaa, oh I thought this was a lampoon article on Republicans actually being for less government.
When is the last time a Republican President or a Republican led Congress ever reduced the size of government?
"When is the last time a Republican President or a Republican led Congress ever reduced the size of government?"
Never, of course. But think of all the money from debt and deficit and from the Military Industrial Complex that GW spread around. That must count for something!
So vote for me for NY assembly, dist. 80. I'm the Republican nominee. Also the Conservative, which is the party I'm enrolled in.
my co-worker's mother-in-law makes $84 /hr on the internet . She has been without work for eight months but last month her paycheck was $21951 just working on the internet for a few hours. check out the post right here....
???????? http://www.paygazette.com
I have two questions. The first is the same as ed rankin's above.
The second question is... Isn't is kind of pathetic that a political movement that is supposedly having its "moment" has to resort to recruiting as it's spokesman a senator that publicly disavows his libertarianism whenever he is asked about it, doesn't support a women's right to choose, makes vague and evasive answers about national security concerns, goes to the bathroom when his BFF in congress, peter king, gets asked a question about immigration reform. Maybe you guys and gals are having a moment kind of like the one I have when I jerk off?
I guess that's 3 questions.
Ah, as if it wasn't so obvious from the start!
The "new libertarians" are simply Republicans and Conservatives who had a difficult time using the GOP name after it was PROVEN BEYOND ANY DOUBT what Republicans do when given the reigns of power.
(Hint - that involves war, recession, overspending, the security state, etc.)....
But Rand is assuming, probably accurately, that some of you are so young...or so hateful...or so partisan as to think a Junior Senator from an embarrassment of a State (Old Rand would do well to concentrate on improving the lot of his people down there) is the new salvation.
And so, after pretending that all this Paulism and Koch Billions and all the institutions and astroturfing, etc. was all to really have an honest conversation, he comes to a simple conclusion "Vote for me or the likes of me or who I tell you to vote for".
The fact that he had the balls to even write this...amazes me. At least you'd think he'd try to keep a facade of being independent.
Duh, Craig, this is the new, new GOP. Just give them one more chance.
I'd have to agree with him. Rather have dry wheat McConnell as Senate Leader rather than Dipshit Harry continuing for another two years.
"Vote Republican for Limited Government"
ROFLMAO! STOP! Yer KILLIN' ME!
Start working at home with Google! It's by-far the best job I've had. Last Wednesday I got a brand new BMW since getting a check for $6474 this - 4 weeks past. I began this 8-months ago and immediately was bringing home at least $77 per hour. I work through this link, go? to tech tab for work detail

If you make so much money, why would you possibly want to share it with everyone?
I disagree, voting Republican doesn't help the cause of limited government or (especially) civil liberties in most cases. We've had Republican leadership in recent history repeatedly trample on personal liberties and rights and make a mockery out of "limited government." Your average mainstream Republican is not better enough on these issues to make a difference when compared to your average mainstream Democrat. When faced with a typical Republican and Democrat, I believe a liberty-minded voter should always be choosing a third party.
All that said, there are rare times when the Republican (or sometimes Democrat) in the race is not objectionable and is worth voting for, but that's the exception to the rule. If Rand Paul wins the nomination and stays at least somewhat true to libertarian principles, I will gladly vote for him over someone like Clinton or Biden. Otherwise my vote is most likely going third party once again.
my co-worker's mother makes $66 every hour on the internet . She has been fired for eight months but last month her check was $21277 just working on the internet for a few hours. go right here....

To waste your vote on a hopeless candidate - someone like Sarvis - is worse that illogical. It hands defeat to one of the two major parties, the one you are LEAST affiliated with, since you will vote for a third party candidate only if he is aligned with your political ideology. It is CLEAR that there are differences among Democrats and the GOP. Pretending there aren't is the talking point of (1) libertarians like Sarvis and (2) Democrats who are facing a backlash, to split the GOP vote
"Micromanaging the daily lives of citizens is not the duty of government. But the GOP is taking a stand?we are saying enough is enough."
They're only taking a stand on the things they don't want to micromanage. They haven't changed their stance on the things they do want to micromanage like homosexual marriage, prostitution, abortion and drugs.
"The GOP does not want to tell you how to live. In fact, we want to get out of your lives."
We will stay out of your bedroom, your doctor's office, your classroom, your business, your pantry, and your cell phone."
So the GOP is for homosexual marriage and legalizing prostitution? I missed that memo. I would wager the majority of the rest of your party and constituents disagree. Even if that is true, there are still the issues of abortion and drug legalization where you do still want to tell us how to live.
"We are the party that is willing to address their unique concerns and in doing so, we will build a new majority that might finally turn this country around."
Apparently not all our concerns, just the ones we have in common.
Republicans better get their people out to vote or get on board with libertarians. If not, this is going to be a democratic run country for a long time. You are still just the lesser of two evils and libertarians don't vote for evil.
Ron Paul ran as a Republican, so clearly they can have candidates who are libertarian, but to vote blindly for any Republican is foolish. If you vote for the party "as is" they have no reason to change. Vote for the pro-liberty Republicans if you truly believe they're the real deal and vote libertarian when they're establishment. It's the only way to get the message across. They need to change to get our votes, not the other way around.
@Rand Paul- I gave my whole vacation fund to your father (not the GOP) because of who he is and what he said and did. Because he has balls. I'm a registered Libertarian, and voted for your father back when he ran as a Libertarian. It's difficult for me to vote for or contribute to a Republican, but it can happen (hint, hint) if they're libertarian enough.
Can you have some spare time to sit back in your chair having your laptop with you and making some money online for some interesting online work said Jenny Francis in the party last nightsee more what is for you there to increase your pocket money??.
http://shorx.com/clickforsurvey
I am 36 yr old white female never voted before BUT I surly am this yr an every election I can. I am a registered voter for the 1st time an me & my boyfriend will stand up an vote REPUBLICAN. It's time we put our vote in. Democrats your outta here!!!
This is the funniest piece of fiction ever! Republicans say the opposite of what they actually do! But hypocrisy has always been the staple of the Right Wing! Good rule of thumb: if a Republican says it; it is a LIE!
