Brickbat: This Little Piggy

Nadine Darsanlal claims to be a disabled vet, and she says her pig Wilber is a service animal, not a pet. He even has a certification saying he's an emotional support animal. But the New York City Health Department has given Darsanlal a $500 fine for keeping illegal livestock and a judge has upheld that fine.

When regulations collide. Where's Charlotte when you need her?
In the smokehouse.
+1 "Crunchy"
Pretty sure the ADA wins.
Yeah, that. And the judge quite possibly knows that but as is often said here the process is the punishment for anyone daring to defy the state.
Pretty sure the ADA wins.
Yep. The ADA provides greater protection for individuals with disabilities and so it takes priority over the local or state laws or regulations, including health department regulations or zoning laws.
"A pig like that, you don't eat all at once!"

Alternate joke: "The one pig in New York who won't hassle you or beat you up, and they ban it?"
+1 stop and frisk
So she can't keep the pig in the city, but surely she can slaughter it on the sidewalk and make some sausages out of it. That's legal, right?
+1 RFRA
This is NYC. I'm 99% sure it's not (because that's the safe way to bet on just about anything in NYC).
"emotional support animal" ...
What do Warty's Hellhounds qualify as?
Warty calls them "kittehs".
What's a bigger joke:
"We're New York. We're hardcore badasses", from people that allow smoking and sugary drinks to be banned, from a city whose police run roughshod over their citizens with stop-frisk and their prosecution of the WOD, a city that has all but given up on the 2A and the equal protection clause?
Or
"We're Boston Strong", from people that sheltered in place while armed goons abandoned the fourth amendment?
I'm gonna have to go with Boston being worse based on the reaction during the hunt for the two unarmed bombers. NYC didn't go into a similar all-out hysterical pants-shitting panic even after 9/11.
I was in new your city in November after 9/11/2001 and it was a pretty somber place but I did notice New Yorkers pretty much acting normal.
Oh yeah, except for having my bag searched by some dude carrying an M-16 while walking toward Rockefeller center to ice skate.
A judge reviewed Wilbur's badge as a certified emotional support animal, but still insisted the fine be paid.
Well, at least he didn't have Wilbur turn in his gun.
It was always about payment. No one gives a shit she has this animal. Actually, the prefer she keep him so they can continue to fine her.
He's on paid leave.
Emotional support animal? Give me a physical break.
If your mental state is so fragile that only a farm animal can maintain it, you might want to look into committing yourself to an asylum.
