Thank You, Edward Snowden!

Since November, advertisements featuring the face of former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden have been wrapped around several city buses roaming the streets and avenues of Washington, D.C. The can't-miss ads featuring whistleblower Snowden's goateed visage cover most of the outside of the buses.
The ads are part of the Thank You, Edward Snowden campaign headed by the Partnership for Civil Justice Fund, a left-leaning public interest organization that focuses on defending activists' free speech rights. According to the group's executive director, Mara Verheyden-Hilliard, the ads were funded by donations from some 30,000 citizens.
In a November Washington Post article, Washington Metro General Manager Richard Sarles noted that the courts had ruled that public transportation agencies are a public forum. "So we have to accept anyone who wants to put up an ad," said Sarles. "Obviously we don't support, necessarily, what the opinions are that people express in these advertisements."
The ads bluntly inform the political and bureaucratic enablers of the domestic surveillance state that many Americans think that it is they, not Snowden, who have betrayed their oaths to defend the U.S. Constitution.

I heard a call-in show this morning on the radio on this subject. The people who heralded Snowden as a hero were focused on the illegal activity of this government, one singling out Clapper and calling him a traitor. They seemed to have a comprehensive understanding of the situation.
The blithering idiots who called Snowden a traitor were focused solely on the person of Edward Snowden and their personal dislike of him. When asked about what they thought of the NSA's illegal behavior they were unaware of it or completely befuddled by the question.
Speaking of which....was the NSA too busy listening to Americans having phone sex to catch the hijackers of the Malaysian airline?
Speaking of which....was the NSA too busy listening to Americans having phone sex to catch the hijackers of the Malaysian airline?
The airline must've been one of those incidents the NSA could've prevented if only we'd have let the Government control our lives!
Was just helping the Mrs with breakfast and she had teh CNN on teh teeveee.
The media is disgraceful. They had a NW Airlines pilot on who essentially summed up my opinion of the most likely cause. Probably an electrical fire that incapacitated the crew and the plane flew on.
The host was physically unhappy with his assessment. You could almost hear her screaming, "Your opinion is boring and you need to sensationalize it more."
The second the rational guy was done she rolled to some idiot who thinks it was a terrorist....
I don't know how to fix this. Until we can convince a competitor that there is a niche market that values factual content over entertainment, we'll continue to get garbage.
Except the plane made several course changes which were most likely caused by reprogramming waypoints in the autopilot.
You have a link for that, SR?
Nothing that google news search won't show up in the last day or two.
Just thought you might have a source with specifics. Everything I've seen is too general to draw conclusions from.
http://www.foxnews.com/world/2.....ian-ocean/
The missing Malaysia Airlines jetliner sent out its last signal about 7 1/2 hours after take off,
If you had ever had a chance to work on an airborne SATCOM system during your career, you would know how really fucking specific that is.
As I understand it, it was a satellite maintenance system associated with the engines. They probably did fly for 7.5 hours until they ran out of fuel.
How does he know they were switched off deliberately? An electrical fire still explains this.
The initial turn back may have been to get the aircraft heading in the correct general direction while you take corrective action.
It's plausible that whoever was running the nav system, picked the first nav point that came up that got them heading in the correct general direction, fully intending to get the correct waypoint once the immediate problem was solved. They could then have been overcome by smoke or fire, although their first action would have been to don their masks.
Nothing here proves hijacking.
The new york times had an extensive write up today. Malaysian officials are now stating that someone must have taken control of the aircraft and flown it for several hours after the aircraft stopped broadcasting transponder signals.
http://www.latimes.com/world/w.....9461.story
BEIJING ? Like an Agatha Christie whodunit, the investigation into the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight 370 is now focusing on a finite circle of suspects ? the 227 passengers and 12 crew members of the missing plane.
While reluctant to call it a hijacking, Malaysian officials now say they believe somebody inside the plane with expertise in the navigational and communications systems of the Boeing 777 diverted it from its Kuala Lumpur-to-Beijing flight path.
It's gross isn't it? I saw Sean Hannity saying "We don't know what the cause is" and then talk about terrorism for 20 minutes.
That's how they work though, they don't flat out say it's terrorism, they just insinuate the cause. Then their followers are all brainwashed and if you accuse the media of sensationalizing they respond with "but they said they don't know the cause."
I've already had to explain this to someone (the person watching that show...).
Your interpretation seems the most likely. However, as an added wrinkle, apparently Malaysian police have just announced that the flight tracker was deliberately turned off from inside the cockpit:
http://www.foxnews.com/world/2.....ian-ocean/
There is no explanation as to how they know this or why they didn't know this before.
Speculating, I think part of the problem here stems from what seems to be a high profile military role in the state. They don't like to admit mistakes and so, rather than a pretty open investigation, from the beginning the goal has been to avoid embarrassment for the government.
An electrical fire would explain why the transponder stopped operating.
Yeah, that occurred to me too. I don't know how they claim to tell whether a transponder stopped working b/c of a fire vs. being turned off by a person.
It's impossible to know. The media doesn't deal in facts. They just want to keep the sensationalism level as high as possible for as long as possible.
The altitude deviations are consistent with a pilotless aircraft. The turns are harder to explain, but could have been caused by turbulence.
IF, and I can't find a straight answer, the turns were to specific navigational waypoints, there is some credence that it may have been under control. Again, were the turns eratic? Were they at a rate consistent with an autopilot?
The two turns depicted just before they lose contact, make no sense. If you were going to fly to specific waypoints you wouldn't turn north and then west again, you would simply put the desired waypoint in from the beginning.
Maybe the pilots were incapacitated and it took the passengers a while to realize it and they eventually broke down the door and tried to fly it? WHo knows, but it's a damn sight more likely than terrorists.
The media doesn't even know the right questions to ask.
Thanks. That's a very helpful summary.
Yes, good stuff.
I understand Al Jazeera America is supposed to be pretty good.
I have one countervailing data point. Remember the airliner that blew up off Long Is.? Shortly afterward there was one or more eyewitness accounts that a bright trail was trailing it before the explosion. I remember then that there was one phoner-in to a radio talk show who pointed out that that's just what it could look like if it was leaking fuel, the trail was on fire, and the fire caught up to the plane. And eventually the problem was indeed ascribed to a fuel leak. So talk shows can sometimes bring out sensible explanations.

Is anybody out there taking an intermediate position re Snowden: thinking he should be absolved of any wrongdoing he may (or may not) have committed, but not considering him a hero?
Been meaning to ask this: What does the SC's latest ruling regarding contractors and whistleblowing mean for Snowden?
He still better never leave Russia?
Anyone who appreciates Edward Snowden should be trying to get him out of Russia pronto.
Snowden is under the protection of the one true dictator of Russia, Vladimir "KGB" Putin. This is all because Snowden willing accepted succor from Putin. When Snowden is done being useful to Putin, like giving SXSW speeches that an appreciative American audience adores, Putin is going to kill him.
It's probably too late to save Edward Snowden. He was a fool to ever accept succor from Putin. If you love him, you'll tell him to get his ass out of Russia pronto. More than likely though he won't ever be leaving Russia alive.
Edward Snowden, one world class imbecile.
Why would Putin kill him thus totally discourage any others from coming to Russia with a pocket full of intelligence goodies? He's evil not stupid.
What if Snowden starts talking bad about Putin? What if Snowden begins to embarrass Putin in some way? How can all of Snowden's fan embrace Snowden if he doesn't condemn Putin's own sins?
Why wouldn't Putin then get rid of him? Who could stop Putin from killing him? Who would punish Putin if he did this?
Snowden is an idiot who should not be worshipped. He willingly accepted the succor of the one true dictator of Russia. It's probably going to cost him his life. He's a fucking idiot.
How can all of Snowden's fan embrace Snowden if he doesn't condemn Putin's own sins?
Pretty easily. I assume he's not a fucking idiot. See BP's points below.
So you're going to laud him for not speaking out about Putin's surveillance state? You're going to laud him for accepting the succor of an ex KGB dictator who is not all agreeable to the truth or liberty? That ain't a little bit dishonorable?
If so, you've got a hero worshipping problem. Fuck your cult.
So someone who speaks out about 99% of the world's trouble makers is as evil as someone who is one of the world's troublemakers?
Pardon me for not following that logic. Snowden's done far more for liberty than you have. For you to disparage him because he hasn't gone the last mile, when you haven't even gone the first foot, well, sorry, doesn't work like that.
Who said anything about evil?
I'm going to thank him for bringing to our attention the details of the fucked up things being done to us and in our names at tremendous personal cost. The real world has sharp edges and one of those edges is that when the US goes bad there aren't a lot of good options. That he had to flee to Putin's Russia to do it is a very ugly commentary on the health of the US government and populace that we, as a people, should be paying attention to.
Why would Snowden speak out about Putins policies? Everyone already knows about his surveillance state. That just doesn't make any logical sense. He isn't staying there because he has some love for Mother Russia.
Why would Snowden speak out about Putin? Because if he's got a problem with how the United States works, then he has to also have a problem with how authoritarian Russian works. If he's going to be intellectually cogent and all.
Or, ya know, can just be satisfied he's done more for the cause of liberty than 99.99% of the world and take a break for a while.
You aren't getting it, the NSA stuff was secret. No one knew about it. He did a service by exposing their illegal behavior.
Everyone already knows Putin is an asshole. No one needs Snowden to make that revelation. Speaking up about that would be one of the most redundant and stupid acts imaginable.
Did you also know that Kim Jong Un is an asshole? Maybe we should send Snowden there so he can confirm it for you.
Plus he probably doesn't give a shit about Russia, and is more interested in staying alive. Which means not criticizing Putin.
In the process you are correct, he will be a useful tool to embarrass the U.S. government.
I think Snowden would have gone to North Korea willingly if the North Koreans were smart enough to safe harbor him.
He can't cogently speak out about the United States while at the same time not speak out about Putin while accepting Putin's patronage.
Snowden's life is also in greater danger in Russia than it would be if he was in some holding cell in the United States.
I don't see you speaking out about Obama's evils, or the NSA's. According to your theory, that cogently prevents you from speaking out about Snowden.
Or succor for that matter.
Oh, I do, but this thread is about Edward Snowden man.
You need to start using actual reason to defend your positions man. Attacking one's vocabulary ain't going to cut it.
Well, Lyle is obviously Tulpa's new sock, what others in this thread are also Tulpa?
Well, Lyle is obviously Tulpa's new sock
I've seen this Lyle before in other Snowden related threads, so if it's a sock it's not a new one. IIRC it's been pretty consistent with the burn the traitor rhetoric before this latest outbreak of concern for poor Snowden's well being and morality.
"Snowden's life is also in greater danger in Russia than it would be if he was in some holding cell in the United States."
That may be true, but sitting in a holding cell is likely worse than what he's doing now. I see where you're coming from but I don't think he spoke up to better humanity or be some saint, he spoke up to better the United States. Now he's trying to avoid capture. Criticizing Putin would surely go against ones basic survival instincts. Plus, like I was saying, there isn't any great need to speak up against Putin. Putin lets his actions do the talking.
I think a good question to ask yourself is: what would you do if you were about to leak what Snowden did? Would you stay here? I don't think that's an easy answer.
He can't cogently speak out about the United States while at the same time not speak out about Putin while accepting Putin's patronage.
Yes he can. It's quite simple. He did it just last week.
MJGreen,
Yes, I know that Putin allowed him to speak at SXSW just last week. That's exactly the point I'm making. I'm so glad you see it too.
Snowden swore an oath to the U.S. Constitution, which, unlike his bosses, he took seriously. I don't recall him swearing an oath to the Russian constitution.
Oh, not swearing an oath to the Russian constitution is going to stop Putin from killing Snowden?
Moreover, I'm not fully aware of the Russian constitution's declarations with regard to privacy rights and domestic surveillance.
I also doubt the KGB failed to retain the lessons from the Cold War and are spying on everyone, everywhere, indiscriminately.
"Because if he's got a problem with how the United States works, then he has to also have a problem with how authoritarian Russian works."
How about because he doesn't care about Russia? It's not his problem. He is an American, and he was alarmed about the U.S. government's illegal and unconstitutional activities, and believed that his higher duty was to inform American citizens about the truth.
What, his actions aren't kosher unless he also takes on every other misdeed by every other government on the face of the Earth?
By that logic, it is not right to feed one hungry person, unless you feed every hungry person in the world.
Dude, he willingly accepted Putin's offer to live in Russia. He lives in a surveillance authoritarian state. The Russians are doing to him what Snowden did to Americans. He must know this if he's half intelligent.
He must speak out about if he's to live there and accept the patronage of Putin.
If you don't know that Russia is a police surveillance state that hasn't changed in over 100 years, even with the fall of communism, then you are a fucking idiot.
There's no reason for him to endanger his life to prove that. But we know the real reason for your dislike of him Lyle, and it has nothing to do with revealing Putin's many sins.
Why do I dislike him DesigNate?
And why would someone who hates the idea of a surveillance state go and live in one? Only because they're willing to help him so that they can use him as propaganda against his own country?
What a fool Edward Snowden is. I've warned you people. His life is danger. You can do something about that or you can do nothing.
Snowden isn't an issue. The NSA is. We have a massive dysfunctional criminal conspiracy masquerading as a government, one that spies on it's own people, and has gotten to the point that factions of it are spying on each other, and you are worried about one guy who pointed that out?
I give the thumbs up to what Snowden did. For that he deserves praise. Anything about him personally, his intelligence or character, is completely irrelevant.
Massive dysfunctional criminal conspiracy masquerading as a government, and yet Edward Snowden is now under the patronage of the dictator Putin.
Brilliance!!!
Hey, "patronage", you learned a new word!
Do you have a point or something? You got an argument? Come on man. You're going to have to do better than this.
I see no reason to do better when I have your example to be compared with.
The subroutine got hung up on "succor". I'm trying to remember when I've ever heard that word used in a sentence. It has been used more on this page than in the rest of my life combined.
Is it me, or are three bots talking to each other?
Nah. Brezhnev is Mary, and Lyle is just an idiot with a raging police-state boner.
Speaking of which, that "Road To Mandalay"-creature? .... it does this similar thing, where it comes on and Drops Deep Derp... but then has its own sockpuppet partner to debate itself with.
If there's actually 2 here at once, I can only assume they coordinate their afternoon trolling. Because they didn't get enough in during the week? (shrug)
It's all Tulpa, he had a breakdown when he got outed.
Snowden isn't an issue. The NSA is.
Exactly. To provide and analogy: Chuck Schumer is one of the most vile people in Washington. But (& I know this would never happen), if he suddenly had a change of heart and went public detailing the abuses by the NSA/FBI/CIA & demanded changes, I would be on board with that cause. It wouldn't make him any less vile nor would I support on anything else, but I would support him on that.
provide *an analogy
Damnit
Keeping Snowden as a symbol embarrasses the US Government. If Snowden is smart enough not to criticize Putin, he'll stay alive, because Putin is all about embarrassing the US government.
This is probably the only way Snowden stays alive.
... and it's good that you recognize that Putin is using Snowden. Snowden's recent performance at SXSW is a great example of Putin's genius.
I don't think Snowden is an idiot. Also, it's not like he had a lot of choices if he didn't want to be disappeared. He had to go to a country that would resist US pressure to have him returned, and one where the US couldn't do a snatch-n-grab or drone strike without serious consequences. That doesn't leave a lot of options, and none of those countries are led by nice guys.
You're an idiot just like Edward Snowden. He wouldn't have been disappeared by the United States. He's going to be disappeared by Putin though when he's no longer useful to Putin.
He accepted the succor of the KGB guy Putin. Wake the fuck up!!!
And you're an asshole who needs to calm down. His best case scenario in the US was a secret court trial, followed by 20-30 years - possibly life - in prison, almost certainly solitary confinement.
He made sure not to give the intel to Putin. If he gives Putin some good PR, so be it. Our own smei-fascist government is the one enabling it.
Oh God, our semi-fascist government? Haha. You're an idiot.
Putin is using Edward Snowden. And when he's done using him, he's going to get rid of him. If you care about Edward Snowden's life you will do everything you can to get him out of Russia posthaste.
And you would have Snowden turn down Putin's refuge in favor of Gitmo or worse?
I think you just like the sound of "succor" and had to come here to post it over and over.
Yes, Snowden should have taken the route that MLK walked. He didn't though because he's an imbecile and lacks character.
Why in the world are you worshipping a fool?
Perhaps because our semi-fascist government wouldn't have let him choose the MLK route. They never would have let him write a letter from Gitmo.
How DARE Snowden not follow the Standard Statist Guide to Fighting Statism! How dare he provide some ambiguous use to Putin and soften Lyle's surveillance state boner!
No national leader is going to have Snowden killed. Dear god, it would be a shitstorm of horrendous proportions.
The US might grab him and bring him back for trial, but they aren't going to kill him. I say might, because he is probably causing less stink now than he would if he were brought to trial.
Hell, I'm betting our high level officials say a little prayer every night for the safety of Ed Snowden, lest they be blamed for snuffing him.
You're right about our government. Putin, however, will make it look like an accident or an illness though. You doubt Putin?
Why wouldn't he off Snowden? Who would stop Putin? What could be done to Putin after it was done?
Accepting the succor of Putin was a big mistake.
There you go again, "succor". Dang that's some funny stuff.
Can't quite figure out where your boner is. You hate Putin, that's for sure, but it's almost like you think Putin is more dangerous to the US than losing all the civil liberties and turning the country into a Putin-style state.
Go succor somewhere else, or at least something new.
Can't quite figure out where your boner is
Well he does sound awfully hmmm.. concerned for Snowden's well being and all.
Are you concerned about his well being? You think he's safe in Russia?
No, I'm totally sure that he would be safer in the hands of our government, so grateful they are for his actions. I imagine it would be one big love-fest at the secret trial that would be [REDACTED] and the good of the People would be assured. There's just no chance he would be held incommunicado for the rest of his natural life because of [REDACTED]
Yeah, what's he thinking?
It wasn't the United States government that killed MLK.
Because that situation is totally analogous.
Aren't they missing you at Hot Air or something?
Hot Air? What are you talking about?
You don't support standing up for what is right and standing up to government oppression by personal sacrifice?
Snowden is no MLK or Ghandi, that's for sure.
You keep worshipping the fool, if you want. It's only to the detriment of your own sense of justice.
He's already sacrificed far more than the vast majority of defenders of liberty ever will. You just want to see him in jail, period.
Jordan,
He hasn't sacrificed his life just yet. So Snowden has jack all really when compared to many others. Putin will get around to sacrificing him when he's done using him though.
sacrificed
He hasn't sacrificed his life just yet.
And how we get Lyle's creepy murder-fap material.
Cytotoxic,
You actually think Snowden's life is safe under Putin?
There's no reason for Putin to kill him now. I think Snowden knows what he's doing better than some idiot who can't even grok his situation.
Cytotoxic,
Really? Snowden knows better than Putin while he's in Putin's Russia. Snowden doesn't even speak Russian.
Snowden is in deep shit.
Why do you care ?
Lyle|3.15.14 @ 1:37PM|#
..."It's only to the detriment of your own sense of justice."
"your"?
Seems you presume there are others here as confused as you.
Sevo,
Tell me how I'm confused?
Lyle|3.15.14 @ 2:08PM|#
"Sevo,
Tell me how I'm confused?"
I don't have to. Anyone reading your last 15 posts has all the evidence they need.
Snowden is no MLK or Ghandi, that's for sure.
You're right. He's better.
Lyle = PB
You didn't answer my question. Do you think he's safe in Russia?
He has more freedom in Russia now than he would in Gitmo. I can't imagine the blinders you must have on to not see that.
But maybe you just want him to enjoy the succor of Obama for a change. Do you enjoy the succor of Obama? Or maybe Obama enjoys the succor of many suckers like you.
Damn that's one funny word. I am enjoying the succor of succor today.
Ummm......so I was running through a cornfield, and there was what I thought was a very large person with a weapon. So I kicked it, and then bit it's neck. After getting a mouthful if hay, I realized it was a scarecrow. The bad thing is...the scarecrows head fell off. I heard u were the best scarecrow fixer around......so can you fix this thing? The farmer is going to be mighty pissed, so I need it done quick before he realizes its not there.
I mean, he's gonna be even more pissed when he sees bite marks on her daughters neck....but she's wearing turtlenecks....oh crap......I don't think I wore one when she and I......damn it.....maybe you can refer me to pregnancy repair. :o0
What are you talking about man? You need to make a cogent argument otherwise you ain't really defending whatever it is you believe.
"Cogent", now it succors you? Why did you hive up on "patronage" so easily?
I'm just waiting for someone to drop the "supra" bomb on this thread.
Yeah, a national leader is going to commit murder directly in the public eye.
"Hey Lyle, mom says to take off your aluminum foil hat and come up from the basement, it's time for lunch."
What are you talking about Francisco? Putin has never had anybody murdered before? He's never had his people poison people before?
Someone has a tin foil hat on, but it ain't me. 😉
I'm sure he has, but not someone who's this well known. It's not in his best interests to do so. He might kick him out...but he's not going to kill him.
Putin has killed people who were well known. He probably had Ukraine's old prime minister/president poisoned.
Lyle|3.15.14 @ 2:56PM|#
"Putin has killed people who were well known. He probably had Ukraine's old prime minister/president poisoned."
Perhaps and Putin had something to gain from that.
You've yet to show any reason Putin should off a source of continuing embarrassment to Obo and his Obots
Sevo,
Are you illiterate? If Snowden speaks out against Putin as he should, Putin will have plenty of cause to get rid of him.
Snowden, to save his life, must continue to be the fool that he is. God help if he actually starts to understand himself and his surroundings.
Lyle|3.15.14 @ 5:40PM|#
"Sevo,
Are you illiterate?"
No.
"If Snowden speaks out against Putin as he should, Putin will have plenty of cause to get rid of him."
Yes, if Snowden does what some brain-dead idjit (that would be you) tells him to do, he could easily get killed.
Get lost.
Sevo,
Haha... so you agree that it was stupid for him to let Putin safe harbor him? You admit his life is possibly in grave danger now?
I'm glad you realize he can't speak out in Russia about Russia, and if he did Putin might kill him. Haha!
Lyle|3.16.14 @ 12:59AM|#
"Haha... so you agree that it was stupid for him to let Putin safe harbor him? You admit his life is possibly in grave danger now?"
So you agree your 'argument' is so much BS?
"Accepting the succor of Putin was a big mistake."
Ummm, Im pretty sure he didnt want to accept Putin's succor. The US was making damn sure that he couldnt go anywhere else.
The U.S. did nothing. Edward Snowden chose to go to Hong Kong and he then chose to be taken in by Putin. The U.S. had nothing to do with those choices.
The US might grab him and bring him back for trial, but they aren't going to kill him. I say might, because he is probably causing less stink now than he would if he were brought to trial.
The US government would have the trial made secret, citing national security concerns. 🙁
It's too big. They'd never get away with it. Snowden is a hero to a significant portion of the population. A secret trial would NEVER be tolerated. The government would walk away with ZERO credibility and take a huge hit to their ability to lie to its citizens (which they will do anything to maintain).
I think they will likely leave him alone to live out his life in exile.
Who would really stop them? I didn't think the government could get away with killing US citizens w/o trial but that just old news anymore. The gov strategy seems to be do whatever, rely on friendly media to survive the shitstorm, and then carry on just as before with a few cosmetic changes. It also appears to be largely working.
Not so much a matter of stopping them. It's a function of how much political capital they would lose.
There is already a great deal of anti-government sentiment out there. A move like this would further weaken their position.
For them to retain power, they need our consent.
No, they don't. They need they consent of the armed forces, and the media. The days when the 2nd Amendment meant that the people could rise up and overthrow the government are long gone. A rag-tag band of untrained civilians with hunting rifles would stand zero chance against our military. Fortunately, most members of the military would hesitate to oppose a popular uprising, I hope.
But, since the vast majority of the citizenry are happy with their bread and circuses, the government will continue to slowly take freedom away, little bit by little bit, aided by a compliant press and entertainment industry, until by the time the tyranny is complete, it will be far too late.
Snowden is basically in the situation of being on the run from Red Skull, and the only one willing to protect him is Dr. Doom. An unenviable situation.
Apparently the new and dastardly conspiracy is to flood H&R with DERP BOTS
"If you look around the table, and you don't know who the succor is?....its you"
Except for IFH, who is the succour.
I love that Suthenboy made a post comparing the imbecility of Snowden haters with the intellectual superiority of Snowden respecters and how the former can't make a point beyond SNOWDEN SUX PUTIN and then Lyletard and MaryBrehznec come along and validate Suthenboy's observation.
I believe Snowden did the wrong thing and should be held accountable for his actions. I don't support the government's breaching of private data, but it's been done by various government agencies for as long as I've been alive - in both Republican and Democratic administrations! I disagree with Snowden's method of revealing these breaches to the public. In any organization there are channels one goes through to report illegalities. The first step should not be to release ALL to the media - especially NSA information! Snowden was one man, in a huge, complicated organization of secrets. Who was he to decide what information should have been revealed to the public? If he'd not gotten the support he'd hoped for through normal channels, he could have then reached out to Congressmen/Senators who would've taken steps to protect him and made the NSA accountable to the public. I believe he chose not to go through proper channels because he WANTED the notoriety of revealing these breaches himself! And now, rather than staying in the country he so vehemently claimed he was trying to protect from government abuses, and facing the criminal charges of his actions here, he's accepted asylum in Russia?!? Russia, China, and whoever else offered him asylum, did so because he's ex-NSA, and they want to extract as much more sensitive information out of him as they can get, AND they want to exploit his notoriety as a U.S. traitor and parade him around for all to see.

"I believe Snowden did the wrong thing and should be held accountable for his actions. I don't support the government's breaching of private data, but it's been done by various government agencies for as long as I've been alive - in both Republican and Democratic administrations!"
So because the gov't has violated A4 in the past, Snowden should get in trouble?
I'd suggest a short course in logic; you don't have any.
No "Sevo" - I believe it ALWAYS should have been an issue requiring investigation and/or legal action, for whoever/whatever party was doing it! I mentioned that these breaches have happened in both Republican and Democratic administrations because PLENTY of people have already made it a partisan issue, when it's not.
Well "informed", you have yet to differentiate your claimed distaste for A4 violations from your claim that Snowden did something wrong.
Are you hoping that one of the 'official' D or R officials were going to blow the whistle?
Do I really have to explain what's wrong about what he did? How much do you actually know about the NSA, "Sevo?" In all the previous cases I recall (D or R), there was a definite violation of people's privacy/rights, but none of them have involved the NSA! Snowden had a security clearance (don't know what level) and worked for THE major government agency tasked with safeguarding our national security! In his capacity as an NSA employee, he was well aware what constituted treason - the NSA has a tendency to tell you that BEFORE they give you a security clearance! Every other individual I've known about, who committed a treasonable act, WAS tried for treason! If you're aware of some way, or case, in which our government has tried the FBI or the CIA, in a courtroom, for violating citizen's privacy rights, please share.

"Do I really have to explain what's wrong about what he did?"
No, because you haven't a clue. What you have is some statist (ignorant) opinion about which I don't give a damn.
You're a statist making apologies for a state ignoring the constitution.
Suffice to say, your opinion is NWS.
Snowden upheld the Oath he made to uphold the Constitution of the United States.
Any other detail or observation is irrelevant.
A good lawyer would get him acquitted under the whistleblower law.
The problem with him being called a hero is that absolutely nothing has been done to rein in the NSA.
The only difference is we know what they are doing and they do it anyway.

"The problem with him being called a hero is that absolutely nothing has been done to rein in the NSA."
So a whistle-blower who doesn't dismantle the entire structure isn't a hero?
What have YOU done for me today?
He's not a hero. True heroes are those who act, and are then WILLING to face the consequences of their actions. By accepting asylum in Russia, he's made himself a hypocrite, as well as a potential traitor. The people calling him a hero are using him, and the information he leaked, as partisan tools to discredit the current Democratic administration. These breaches have happened in both Rep and Dem administrations, and are no less detestable in one than the other.
If Snowden is truly concerned about seeing lasting changes in the NSA, on behalf of the American public, he should come back and argue his case in the courtroom! As it stands now, he just looks like a coward.
And how do you "rein in" the NSA? Well, I suspect you do it very, very carefully, because if they're forced to reveal too much information, it could negatively affect our national security.

"He's not a hero. True heroes are those who act, and are then WILLING to face the consequences of their actions"
So if someone doesn't die, they're not a hero?
I'd say you're a statist imbecile.

"Sevo" - If you actually want to have an intelligent conversation with someone, you're going to have to READ what is written. Name-calling just makes YOU look like an imbecile, with no great argument to whatever is being discussed.
Amen... the world is not completely full of fools. Thanks for chiming in.
Lyle - Why do you keep arguing with this guy(?)- Sevo? He's a moron who's learned a few challenging words in a thesaurus that he keeps using over and over again! He has no cogent argument about the issue - he just wants to argue. Save your energy for someone who's, at least, interesting to talk to...
"Save your energy for someone who's, at least, interesting to talk to..."
That would be an imbecile such as you?

I read your 'argument'; it makes you look like an imbecile.
That's it, "Sevo?" That's all you've got? Done with you....
Worst. Comment. Thread. Ever.
I hope they pay the cointelpro types overtime for all the klassy derp tonight
The Snowden Operation
http://20committee.com/2014/01.....operation/
That's how they work though, they don't flat out say it's terrorism, they just insinuate the cause.
Make it pink and you have Gru's spacesuit.

Hilarious. I love you Brezhnev.
Oh, I know.

"Whoo...public transportation (we hate it) in DC (we really hate it) with a picture of Saint Snowden (we love it!) Tough call..."
You need to wander farther out into the swamp; more straws to grasp out there.
haha
I'm still trying to figure out why I give a fuck if/who Snowden succors with, or on, or in the same building with or whatever.
"Whoo...public transportation (we hate it) in DC (we really hate it) with a picture of Saint Snowden (we love it!) Tough call..."
Ah, this is Mary's special brand of "I don't think very well so I see hypocrisy where it doesn't exist" stupidity.
How sad, her meds ran out.
It cogently succors our patronage.
It is fitting that one of the mouthbreathing area surveillance state-fellators uses the handle 'Brezhnev'.
Why do libertarian writers have such a hard time saying "leftist" these days? Mutual admiration? Shame?
Who gives a fuck?
You logging in as Lyle/Brezhnev and thinking it's not obvious to everyone that you're the same person is real comedy gold.
Well, you do...
It's still better than anything you post.
How many times have you been run off?
How mentally ill do you have to be to kepp lying about who you are just to return to a place that clearly doesn't want you?
That's big of you to admit. Why do I care that you're paranoid?
Ok, so maybe you should see someone about your paranoia?
I'm not sure why you keep telling us that you're paranoid.
No, your fucking mom won't leave, and she snores.
I'm not a sockpuppet using paranoid loser who has been run off more times than I can think up screennames.
Again, how mentally ill do you have to be to kepp lying about who you are just to return to a place that clearly doesn't want you?
The truth hurts doesn't it?
That's why you keep coming back, you can't take people thinking you're a fucking whacko, but you can't hide it either, so you shit all over threads before you know what you did and then have to slink away again.
In fact, it's about slinking time for you now.
Awww, look who's upset about being outed.
No, Epi has your mom on even days.
Mary called me paranoid on my blog today for mentioning her as my blog "stalker" and posting a bunch of Robert Stack photos. 🙂

So, anything else, or have you just gone into full "shit in the thread and burn another sock puppet" mode?
That explains her presence here as Brezhnev.
The funny thing is she thinks she can hide it, it's soooooo fucking obvious.
So, anything else, or have you just gone into full "shit in the thread and burn another sock puppet" mode?
Hi Mary.
"Brezhnev" is beginning to sound like Eliza.
What is it with you and fellatio?
You mean succors.
You stacked up well against the competition.
Don't say Stack.
You're the one responding to it.
It was her first post. I didn't know. Takes me about 3 Mary posts to confirm.
I have regret nonetheless.
Fortunately you've found Lyle.
Jesus Mary.....Texas sun getting to you already?
haha
I just want some recognition for my awesome rejoinder. An opportunity like that only comes along once in a lifetime.
It WAS awesome.
*pats Snark on back*
Thank you. You made it all possible, sir.
You forget to switch socks on that one Lyle.
May we call you Lyle ?
