Video: Remy's Raise the Debt Ceiling
$17.2 trillion in debt and counting.
Earlier this week, Congress approved an extension on the debt ceiling to $17.2 trillion, allowing the government to borrow enough money to pay its bills through March of 2015.
And to think, when Reason TV originally released Remy's "Raise the Debt Ceiling Rap" on July 25, 2011, we were only fretting about $14 trillion.
Original write-up is below:
We may not be able to address our current debt ceiling woes, but we can at least put them to a good beat.
Music by Remy. Video shot and produced by Meredith Bragg.

Coming in at number one in our hearts
So one of my friends just excitedly posted a picture on Facebook of her meeting Sandra Fluke.
I'm tempted to comment but I actually like her so I probably shouldn't be snide about it.
Don't you wish you could get as excited meeting a meaningless cipher? Aren't you unfulfilled until you think the world of someone who has done...nothing?
If I ever met Sandra Fluke I would ask her if she's considerate enough to send Rush Limbaugh a Christmas card each year.
Because without him she's just another lawyer struggling to find work and pay off student loans in a glutted market.
Unions, Cronyists, and Bureaucrats Agree: Raise the Federal Gas Tax
ROADZ! For the love of ROADZ, raise the taxes!
When the price of gas goes up and the money goes to the gasoline producers, that's evil.
When the price of gas goes up and the money goes to the government, that suddenly, magically becomes virtuous.
Well naturally. Thats because modern large powerful structured governments have only the noblest intentions to take that money and are the only possible structure capable of providing what the public needs.
/ Tony and Palins Buttplug
It might warm Tony w/o spaces and shriek's cockles (heh, heh...cockles) to know that TEAM Red tried to raise the gas tax in 2004. Guess who warded them off with a veto pen? The Great Shaitan, Dubya.
"ROADZ! For the love of ROADZ, raise the taxes!"
Pretty sure that there has been more than enough in that fund to pay for every damn road in the country to be re-paved several times over.
The funds have been stolen to support one silly choo-choo after another.
Very true, let's see what the GAO has to say about it:
So they play with roughly $50 billion per fiscal year. Okay.
So roughly 94 billion actually gets spent on roadwork. But what about the other 50 billion?
Bike paths, transporation museums, and local pet projects.
Seen on Best of Craigslist:

It's Craigslist, it might not be true, but I was amused to see it.
One has to wonder how quantitative easing fits into those numbers. Should Remy do an updated version called "Raise the Print Ceiling"?
I've got some great news! The government has discovered time travel! Unfortunately, they're only using it to spend the money of people who haven't been born yet.

That's FUNNY!
Obama acolytes pushe National Youth Enrollment Day, surprised to find website down for maintenance this weekend
Saturday is National Youth Enrollment Day for Obamacare, a day designed to help make up for youth recruitment time lost while HealthCare.gov was down last year. It will be marked by a broad array of events, from Head Start information sessions to pub crawls.
The day will also feature a HealthCare.gov outage that came as a surprise to the White House allies who have been planning Feb. 15 enrollment activities for weeks.
"We just found that out," said Aaron Smith, co-founder of the recruitment group Young Invincibles. "Obviously it's unfortunate."
"It's not ideal," another Obamacare ally said.
With the website's enrollment system down, the administration is extending the Feb. 15 enrollment deadline for coverage by March 1, the official said, to Feb. 18.
We are so lucky to have ideological opponents that are complete idiots.
You know who else had a team of Youth to spread his message...?
The Jedi?
Peter Pan?
He's so creepy!
The boy who never grows up, fights Indians and Pirates...creepy?
You are dead to me.
I more meant the idea of coercing children into joining him. If you want to never grow up, that's fantastic (I fully plan on never doing so), but don't trick dumb kids into following you around in some weird cult.
The Lost Boys were all orphans. Better to be battling The Hook than to end up working in my diamond mines.
Are you insinuating these are the only two options for orphans?
That and polishing monocles. What else would you do with them?
I demand more creativity, good sir. You all label yourselves free thinkers, yet only utilize your orphans for the most menial & typical of tasks.
I rent mine out to cosmetic companies who are looking to do animal free testing of their new products.
Good money in it. The only downside is that the PETA folk like me for preventing cute bunnies from having dangerous chemicals dumped in their eyes. Who wants them as friends?
It only became creepy when Spielberg made 'Hook'. And orphans make excellent chimney sweeps.
They are small & often already quite dirty, so you make an excellent point.
Hook is one of my favorite movies. Pistols at dawn?
p.s. I've also heard, ahem, from a friend of a friend, they can be trained to become excellent pickpockets.
Hook is a decent movie. But the flashback scene to how he became Peter Pan is just weird.
He's a baby in a stroller and Tinkerbell just takes him?
FACT: I have only seen "The lost Boys" in German.
FACT: I have only seen "The lost Boys" in German.
This sounds like an interesting story, please share. If it's not interesting, please lie because I am bored & depressed tonight about my terrible future.
It's not very interesting. I was on a high school trip to the land of the huns.
There may or may not be an 21 year old me in Trier
YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO LIE TO ME. How often does a woman ask you to lie to her? Why are you not taking advantage of this situation??
Kinda ruins the fun when they ask you to.
Welcome to why I don't date anymore.
Who said that was the truth
If that was a lie, it was a terrible one. At least have some fun with the idea.
Maybe. How can I make it up to you
I think the moment's ruined now.
Did I tell you about the time I wrestled an alligator while skydiving into a volcano?
Would you say you were venturing into a zone of danger?
Okay, do it. You know you want to.
Don't have the link handy, but it's been determined that American alligators can climb trees.
So we are all better call Kenny Loggins.
This is amazing. Were you wearing a tactical black turtleneck whilst doing so?
'm not saying I invented the turtleneck. But I was the first person to realize its potential as a tactical garment. The tactical turtleneck! The... tactleneck!
Don't remember all the details, I was shit-faced on gummy bears and scotch.
It was like...wait, I had something for this.
Hm? Sorry I was picturing Whore Island
Speaking of Whore Island, this Lesbian Pirates of the Caribbean show on Starz is starting to lose me.
Too many characters and only a handful are interesting.
But...it's lesbian pirates! The stories & characters don't even need to be logical, just stick around for the eye candy.
That's the only reason I'm pretty stoked on Da Vinci's Demons coming back. Starz does casting right if the goal is pretty things to look at.
I'm recording but haven't started watching yet. Wife's away on a trip and waiting till she gets back.
Rewatching GoT in preparation of season 4.
It isn't a waste of time, but it's sort of like the poor man's Game of Thrones in writing and production values.
But definitely a lot of eye candy. I swear the actor who plays Calico Jack is doing an impersonation of Dustin Hoffman's Captain Hook.
Are you excited about it? I wasn't even going to watch but there were more Ramsay scenes in the trailer than expected & I'm itching to see him go hunting. Plus, you know, Jaime.
All they have to do make me watch is give me more Ygritte, preferably naked.
Somehow I doubt they'll disappoint. This is the most naked show I've ever seen!
I can't wait. Went like 8 months without Ygritte. I need a fix.
Ramsay? You're dark.
The Boltons are my absolute favorites. They're smart enough to play sides, which evidently most of the idiots in the North are too honorable to do or something. The bad guys, particularly the monsters, are always the most interesting characters.
I will also never, ever complain about Iwan Rheon being cast in things, as he is delightful.
I keep telling you all the Greyjoys win
Until they give Asha her fucking name back, the Greyjoys will keep losing. In Theon's case, more appendages.
So you basically find sociopaths appealing, is that right Kibby?
But I haven't read the books and am spoiled anyway for what's (supposed) to come. Should be very good this season.
Wait, there are books?
The books were written as an aside.
Kinda like Dune?
There were books for Dune?
That's what Groovus told me.
By now he's like Groozus 10k or something.
Melvin Belli?
I thought the youths were already covered under their parents' plans.
"We just found that out," said Aaron Smith, co-founder of the recruitment group Young Invincibles. "Obviously it's unfortunate."
Aaron needs to work on his GuvSpeak if he wants a future in this administration.
The correct phrase to use here is "not optimal".

"Obama acolytes pushe National Youth Enrollment Day, surprised to find website down for maintenance this weekend"
That's FUNNIER!
Wake me when Remy is big enough to be used as bumper music on The Independents.
Bitch enough and you might end up The Independents' "Two Minutes Hate".
He's going to have to beat me out for that. I don't think he has the stones.
Your two mentions is the only thing that makes you interesting. I would never take that away from you.
I have other things that make me interesting! Look at my mannequin collection! They all look like Kim Cattrall!
And your dated 80s movie references.
Epi's all about the Wax on and Wax off.
Kim was going to be Saavik but the filming schedule conflicted with Mannequin. Or maybe Porky's. True story possibly.
When are you two going to mud wrestle to settle this?
He's got the stones; you've got the kinks.
Man you gotta be kidding me! For real?

Here we go
I'd take Dallas at those prices.
Hollywood still does this Oscar thing?
Bless their hearts.
Gotta keep the Plebs distracted somehow
Canada vs USA in curling.
The gloves are now off.
Who won the US v Canada chicks hockey the other day. Didn't see the whole thing.
Canada won that too.
Damn you northern scum.
I'm also going to the Canada-USA women's soccer friendly in May.
Soccer.
*facepalm*
sorry... Kick hockey!
Hey Man, nice shot
Bode Miller finally performed near expectations.
I like him. He does it on his own terms and doesn't give a fuck about what anybody thinks of him.
Glad he won.
He didn't win yet. He's 1st so far.
Bode just got dumped to 2nd.
Fuck. Is it on live up there? I'm watching chicks sling rocks.
Live on up to 5 channels if needed.
"I've got a monetary plan and it involves a lot of toner." May be one of the best lyrics EVAH.
The debt ceiling can't hold us!
What makes me upset that somebody enjoys the luxury of life nowadays, but the burden of debt will be on our children and even grandchildren. I wonder why are people so careless about their obligations before the country, each time applying for a consumer loan from Personal Money Service I know for sure when I am going to cover it and how, but our Gov do not consider it necessary.
