US Intelligence Workers Want Snowden To Die

BuzzFeed's Benny Johnson has written an article outlining the degree of violent hatred some people working in the U.S. intelligence community have for NSA whistle-blower Edward Snowden.
Some highlights:
"In a world where I would not be restricted from killing an American, I personally would go and kill him myself," a current NSA analyst told BuzzFeed. "A lot of people share this sentiment."
and,
"I would love to put a bullet in his head," one Pentagon official, a former special forces officer, said bluntly. "I do not take pleasure in taking another human beings life, having to do it in uniform, but he is single handedly the greatest traitor in American history."
One Army intelligence officer told BuzzFeed about a fantasy of Snowden's death:
"I think if we had the chance, we would end it very quickly," he said. "Just casually walking on the streets of Moscow, coming back from buying his groceries. Going back to his flat and he is casually poked by a passerby. He thinks nothing of it at the time starts to feel a little woozy and thinks it's a parasite from the local water. He goes home very innocently and next thing you know he dies in the shower."
Some, such as Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.), who claim that Snowden is a traitor and should have used the systems in place to complain about the programs that concerned him rather than leak the information to journalists should check out Reason TV's recent interview with William Binney, another NSA whistle-blower. Binney went to Congress and the Department of Defense with some former colleagues in 2002 and argued that the NSA was violating constitutional rights and wasting money on ineffective programs. He was subsequently the subject of a federal investigation. Binney told Reason TV, "We are a clear example that [going through] the proper channels doesn't work."
Watch the interview below:
It's sad, but not surprising, that there are some in the U.S. intelligence community that would like to see Snowden killed. He deserves thanks, not the pathetic hostility highlighted by Johnson.

"In a world where I would not be restricted from killing an American, I personally would go and kill him myself,"
So.. it's OK as long as he's not American?
What the fuck?
Didn't Obama already ... modify ... that "law?"
Sadly for us Americans, it is only nominally verboten to kill Americans with impunity. Happily for him, he doesn't face that same restriction in killing everyone else. God fucking bless America.
my Aunty Alice just got a 9 month old BMW 5 Series Hybrid from only workin part-time on a home pc... my link ?? http://WWW.JOBS37.COM
In that same world, every NSA snoop would find himself the target of a thousand real Americans.
Here, here!
Didn't Obama already ... modify ... that "law?"
The original quote struck me as very 'internet tough guy' or 'big talk'. He wouldn't kill him, he just wants to sound intimidatingly like he would.
Start working at home with GOOGLE!YAHOO. ABCNEWS AND MORE GLOBAL SITES... It's by-far the best job I've had. Last Wednesday I got a brand new BMW since getting a check for $6474 this - 4 weeks past. I began this 8-months ago and immediately was bringing home at least $77 per hour. I work through this link, .... http://www.Max47.com
True freedom means the right to have violence fantasies so long as you don't act on them.
Sigh. Do we need to have this conversation everytime Reason criticizes somebody's speech or actions? True freedom also means the right to call assholes out for being assholes.
Sigh. Since only a few intelligence workers want Snowden dead and most are perfectly happy to let him live, the headline could just as easily have read: US Intelligence Workers Don't Want Snowden To Die. So you may now lighten up.
how do you know that "only a few.." want Snowden dead? That some would be willing to express that sentiment to a media outlet implies that a good many more feel the same way but just aren't saying so.
Exactly. If they feel embolden enough to announce it publicly, there is likely a lot of reinforcement from their work peers going on.
Your suppositions are no more compelling than mine. The article itself (from venerable and respected journalistic news source BuzzFeed) could find only five anonymous sources (out of an estimated 200,000+ American intelligence workers) who "wanted Snowden dead." So five out of 200,000 is a consensus? Only to a partisan.
Where were all the cops talking about how evil the guys who beat Kelly Thomas to death were? Surely those Fullerton cops are just a few bad apples.
Exactly.
It's fucking BuzzFeed guys. BuzzFeed.
I'm not saying it's entirely made up, but doesn't it sound like the kind of shit some kid on Reddit would say pretending to be an NSA or CIA employee?
Come on, have a little bit of skepticism and consider the source. I have no doubt there are people who feel this way, I just don't think they're dumb enough to go on the record with someone from BuzzFeed with it.
Only to a partisan.
seriously? Because that is the weakest argument imaginable. I didn't realize one needed to be a partisan to think the sentiment from these folks is appalling.
"I didn't realize one needed to be a partisan to think the sentiment from these folks is appalling."
One needn't be. My point was -- and I'll type this very slowly so you can understand it -- one is a partisan if one believes that all intelligence workers share the sentiments of the five anonymous and quite possibly fictitious individuals quoted. Clearly, the majority of the commenters here believe exactly that, making them partisans.
I have worked around these sorts of people enough to guess that more people in the services seem to have more conservative feelings than the population in general. So the percentages of those wanting Snowden dead is probably higher. And those wanting anyone dead are generally more outspoken and threatening than those with a more peaceful frame of mind, so those peaceful people are less likely to say anything, partly out of fear.
Oh look Bo changed his handle.
Nah. Someone is trying to gather material for her next video.
Cool. I need to come up with some vile insults so that maybe I can make the next installment.
Video? Really?
That's pretty far gone.
Little too late to close the barn door when someone does.
Explicitly name an elected official to your fantasy and see how that turns out for you.
The mentality of a witch-burner, summed up in one sentence.
"I do not take pleasure in taking another human beings life,
Yes you do.
"I'm no queer but..."
"No offence but..."
"Of course it's none of my business, but..."
"With all due respect...."
"I'm the least racist person ever, but ...."
"... that dude I was banging is totally gay."
Except that Snowden is really a witch and needs burning.
He turned me into a newt!
And I didn't get better.
It's advisable to ignore everything somebody says before the word "but."
I have just detected a greater traitor, and he is currently working in an intelligence agency!
What a bunch of fucking psychos.
Really classy, you fucking shameless anonymous cunt. Didn't you take an oath to defend the Constitution? Yes folks, give these sociopaths a monopoly on force.
You know, given the administration's position on droning Americans, I suppose under the new status quo that murdering Snowden is a "legal" option. If you accept that drone process is a legal end-run around due process.
It's okay to assassinate American citizens without due process as long as Obama adds their names to his secret list.
No, no, no... Being added to the.list IS due process.
If the Obamessiah decides that you deserve to die, that's all the process that is due to you.
Being the Lightbringer has some real perks !
Due process has left the Solar System, along with Voyager...
So....more than once then?
Yes, every six months or so.
Not surprisingly, I would like to do to them what they wish they could do to Snowden.
Yes folks, give these sociopaths a monopoly on force.
It's only on loan.
That's it fellas, let your inner STASI run free. Cocksuckers.
I don't think your average Stasi took as much pleasure in it as these guys seem to. Fucking true believers, no better than a jihadi.
"I would love to put a bullet in his head."
"I think if we had the chance, we would end it very quickly."
"Bullet to the head"? "End it quickly"?
That's *wuss* talk!
Since "he is single handedly the greatest traitor in American history",
why don't you personally torture him to death over a period of months?
Because they know they'd lose if they can't ambush the target.
"I don't take pleasure in peeling someone's skin off while they writhe in agony, but..."
I guess the Constitution they swore an oath to uphold didn't have a Fourth Amendment.
Must have been the abridged version:
Nope. No 4A there.
Reading this article was an awful way to start my Friday..
And these are the guys Tony worships. Everyday I see more and more how a relatively free society can be quickly taken over by tyrants... it is with the full support of the citizens, initially. This line from the first (or maybe second?) new Star Wars movie is so perfect for how it all comes crashing down:
"So this is how liberty dies... with thunderous applause."
Everyday I see more and more how a relatively free society can be quickly taken over by tyrants... it is with the full support of the citizens, initially.
e.g. - Germany circa 1930s.
A little while back I was interviewed by an FBI agent regarding one of my coworkers getting a security clearance. They guy said "We don't want another Snowden" at some point during the interview. The guy was a gorilla in a suit. I bet he'd love to kill Snowden with his bare hands if given the opportunity.
They guy said "We don't want another Snowden" at some point during the interview.
And if you had responded to that you would have been put on a list, no doubt.
I would have been fired on the spot.
Translation: we don't want to give another clearance to someone with a conscience.
It's a stupid quote in context. The lefties who wrote that garbage film envisioned the "deregulation of the banks" as the death of liberty. In their ignorant world view, politically manipulated banking cartels=freedom, while non-politically manipulated voluntary trade= Emperor Palpatine raping Ewoks
I think the quote was even more base then you assume. Bush was in office. Bush = Bad. Obama in office, does the same / worse than Bush = Good.
Red team v. Blue team, with not even a fucking iota of thought to the similarities between the two.
It's from the third New Star Wars movie.
Yes, and Lucas is a big progressive, Blue teamer.
It's the abridged, annotated version:
Don't forget the "Power To lay and collect Taxes..." That one is alive and well in the abridged version.
And you people did not think the Left ruled the bureaucracy. Suckers.
They'll always rule the bureacracy because the left worships political power.
Wait a second. Buzzfeed actually has articles with text?
38 reasons that big authoritarian gov't sucks.....in cat gifs!!
Greatest traitor in American history! Benedict Arnold, General Wilkinson, Jefferson Davis, and the Rosenbergs were just amaterus! No, the worst traitor is the guy who tells the American public what the government is doing to them!
And the umbrella thing was how the Bulgarian Reds murdered one of their own dissidents, you com-symp POS.
Bulgarian umbrella:
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/bulgarian_umbrella
The article didn't say umbrella but the reference was clear.
That was my thought as well. A little ricin pellet for the dissidents...
I'm sure the Americans had similarly dastardly means of killing people seemingly without leaving any evidence.
And the umbrella thing was how the Bulgarian Reds murdered one of their own dissidents,
Pretty sure his example was not just a coincidence. He truly believes that's how dissidents should be treated.
A little while ago, somebody was on my teevee talking about "the government's right to protect itself".
Unintentional honesty.
The government and its minions have no interest in protecting you and me. They are only interested in protecting themselves; from all enemies, foreign or domestic.
Oh, come on, P.
You know "the government" *is* "the People", which includes "you and me"!
Oh that is rich.
I have a friend who claims that "Individual liberty is the highest [political] end" and he sincerely believes that. Fucking Rosseauian.
Believes that "we're the govt", that is.
His morals are logically inconsistent. But such it is with any minarchist.
"the government's right to protect itself"
Say what?
That's what the 2A is about. It authorizes the National Guard to have guns.
Evil fuckin scumabags. Pure fuckin evil. And scary as shit.
"I do not take pleasure in taking another human beings life, having to do it in uniform, but he is single handedly the greatest traitor in American history."
Did he make this statement while wearing his Brony regalia?
This is completely understandable. I'm guessing that the NSA tries very hard to screen out employment candidates who show any weakness in their capacity for blind obedience. Maybe with questions like this:
When your boss tells you that 2 + 2 = 5, you answer:
A.) No, 2 + 2 = 4.
B.) I don't know. I don't have my calculator with me.
C.) 2 + 2 is anything you tell me it is. And I brought knee pads.
Rule #1: The boss is always right.
Rule #2: When the boss is wrong, refer to Rule #1.
Obviously the NSA has adopted the military code of career advancement.
"We're not doing it."
"Yeah, we're doing it, and it's for your own goog, and I'm gonna kill the guy who revealed that we lied to you"
Good
Good Googly Moogly
Probably NSFW.
These quotes may be a trial ballo8n.
"It happens sometimes. People just explode. Natural causes."
What's the betting on the extent to which Obumah's "reforms" to be announce later today are nothing more than a bucket of low-grade whitewash?
Whatever he says I'm sure it will be as honest as his comments about keeping your doctor and insurance.
+1 period that turns out to be an asterisk.
Nice one.
saweeet...
So, the "reforms" are now known.
Good thing no one bet on "substance" as opposed to "whitewash".
It matters not one iota that the NSA will have to get a warrant to look at their own records (or someone else's if that ever even happens), the data will still have been collected and stored, and that is crime one.
Actually, Snowden is the reason for the emotion of hatred to exist.
Fuck off slaver.
Ok, so these roles accept a certain type of person who is heavily invested in the governments narrative of the "good" work they're doing. Hardly surprising.
What is surprising is that people still refuse to accept that Snowden is a traitor and a criminal. That doesn't mean I don't appreciate his actions or his sacrifice by my agreement doesn't excuse his actions.
I know plenty of people on this site will react the same way anyone does who is convinced of their own intelligence and "rightness" and political views but remember that everyone who signed the declaration of independence was also a traitor and a criminal. The key difference is that the signers put their names on a document and sent it to the king, Snowden tried to run away and hide.
yea, as a country, we're a different mettle now.
i attribute it to our high standard of living spanning generations. we've bred lazy pussies. kind of the anti-Salusa Secundus.
We are the domesticated descendents of a once wild and free people.
Snowden informed on the illicit activities of the most powerful espionage organization in the world. Yeah he ran, you think he would be treated fairly in the US? If everyone who informed on government law breaking had to be tortured and face military tribunal, if they even get a trial, in order for their actions to be considered legitimate, there would be no legitimate whistle-blowers in existence. Thankfully, most people recognize you and your ilk as regular fellators of political power.
I see. So you're a traitor and a criminal if you, upon discovering that the government is ignoring the Constitution, follow the oath you took to uphold it. That makes sense.
I've never known a government contractor to take an oath to defend the constitution but regardless you can not break one oath and claim it's in defense of another.
Don't mistake my statement as saying that I think he did the wrong thing or that I don't regret the path he had to take in order to avoid living the rest of his life in a dank cell never to be heard from again.
The tragedy is that anyone had to go through this in order to expose the idiocy of our government. He should have been able to have expose this activity openly and received a fair trial and reasonable treatment.
The key difference is that the signers put their names on a document and sent it to the king
Yes, sent it to the king. Would you like to criticize them for sending it to the king, rather than delivering it in person then subjecting themselves to punishment under the law?
They were subject to the punishment of the law and openly identifying themselves meant that they were targeted. The stood for their principles, they didn't sign it John Smith and go hide in France.
He could have kept his identity secret. Especially since he'd been covering his tracks at the NSA in order to steal the data without detection.
The signers of the Declaration were already living in a place where they had a reasonable chance of standing up to the British empire and surviving. They did NOT turn themselves in to the nearest British constabulary force.
Is it now a requirement of patriotism that one has to act stupidly?
It might have something to do with the fact that Snowden isn't a traitor and he exposed criminals.
I disagree. Just because his criminal activity exposed other criminal activity doesn't mean he himself is not still a criminal.
I wish he could have exposed these activities openly in the US without a rational fear for his life.
Which enemy of America has he helped?
Snowden is neither a traitor nor a criminal. The "crime" he would be charged with would be violation of the 1917 Espionage Act, which criminalizes giving info to an "enemy", which Glen Greenwald is not. Also, since there are currently no declared wars, we have NO enemies. He is not a traitor. "Treason against the United States shall consist only in levying War against them"
The signers of the Declaration of Independence were technically criminals and traitors under the law of that time.
Under the Constitution that is current law, Edward Snowden upheld the law and the folks at the NSA are the criminals, regardless of the invalid laws and regulations they write that claim otherwise.
That is the difference.
Yes HE is the traitor, not the government officials who illegally spy on, capture, kidnap and torture people without due process of law. The traitors certainly aren't the anonymous cunts who think America's biggest problem is that they can't act out their murder fantasies openly.
Does anyone need any more reason to be a full on anarchist?
I would just like to say; fuck this government. Fuck the previous government. Fuck the next government and fuck every government that ever will be and ever was.
Hear hear! If faced with a choice, however seemingly inconsequential, to support or withdraw support for this corrupt government's actions, choose not to support.
Several dozen "national security" types have gone on record in addition to those who have been anonymously quoted as wishing to murder (legally or extra-legally) Snowden. I'm unaware of any current national security types who have spoken in his defense, though a few former "intelligence" workers have.
However, that is far less significant than the fact asserted here. US foreign policy is so belligerent, so antagonistic, so intrusive, and so inept that the USG requires 200,000+ intelligence workers and a permanent 3 million+ strong DoD. Talk about a failed state?
That's because doing so is a guaranteed way to lose your job. Or worse.
People involved in billions of felonies want to kill a witness. This is news?

+1
These big bad pogues should come forward publicly instead of hiding behind anonymity. That way we'll know who they are for future reference. Cowards.
The best part is that these fascist scum can't do anything *but* fantasize, because Snowden has arranged a doomsday cache/insurance policy to be released in case of his untimely death or capture -- the contents of which I can only assume would actually be devastating to intelligence operations, not just theoretically so like the stuff so far.
he contents of which I can only assume would actually be devastating to intelligence operations, not just theoretically so like the stuff so far.
So... Is it wrong to be ok with Snowden dying just because you want to see how fucked you *really* are?
I mean, I don't want him to die at all, but if he did, it wouldn't be all bad.
I bet some workers in "homeland security" jobs have had breakdowns in family relationships over this, so it must be really hard for them.
HAHAHA, faggots.
I bet some workers in "homeland security" jobs have had breakdowns in family relationships over this, so it must be really hard for them.
I really hope this is true, and that I get to find out about that too.
Delicious tears.
my roomate's half-sister makes $89 hourly on the laptop . She has been fired for eight months but last month her pay was $20094 just working on the laptop for a few hours. blog link........
http://www.Jobs84.com
I think the latest release of information respecting the 200 million untargeted messages being swept up per day, released on the day before Obama's national address proposing changes to NSA operations, was not mere coincidence. This looked to me to be a clear shot across the bow of the most powerful man in the universe. I'm guessing Obama's proposed fixes won't be what was hoped, even if it is what was expected. I'm looking forward to the next round of information release. How long did it take after Clapper lied to Congress for that lie to be exposed by the release of additional information? I expect the next round to be brutally punishing in a way that no release thus far has been.
The US President isn't supposed to be the most powerful man in the universe. He is supposed to be an administrator and statesman with limited executive powers.
How quaint!
Snowden is a traitor?
Says who?
Those who spy on Americans to catch all the terrorists?
I'm confused.
I thought it was unconstitutional to listen to other people's phone calls...to read their emails.
Wait, wait, is this a hidden camera show?
How long have I been asleep?
In a world where I would not be restricted from killing an American, I personally would go and kill that current NSA analyst myself.
Interesting they would say such a thing. Our founders would have killed those that would have violated their freedoms. It only becomes more clear our government is our greatest enemy to those freedoms.
Given these government employees, who've taken an oath to defend the Contitution, want to kill Snowden, apparently without a trial or a conviction (I haven't seen any conviction, but he has been charged with espionage), shows just how far outside the Constitution our government has gone.
They are willing to kill Snowden without him being convicted of a crime in a court; thus, committing murder. And they seem to think it's OK. And they seem to think it's OK if he's not a US citizen, showing just how much our government employees respect the rights of non-citizens. People in other countries will see US citizens as threats to their lives, making it dangerous for us to travel outside the country.
They don't even see they are violating the Constitution, by supporting the NSA spying.
Rand Paul is right, they shouldn't be collecting the informaiton.
So now that we're taking off our gloves and putting our cards on the table, how many Americans want the thousands or is it millions of jack-booted thugs killed for supporting government's interests over American's liberties?
a good story
