Obamacare en Español Es Muy Mal

It seems the Spanish-language version of HealthCare.gov is about as well-written as the headline of this blog post. And it works about as well as the English-language version of the site, even with the additional delay going live. From the Associated Press:
Mirroring problems with the federal health care website, people around the nation attempting to navigate the Spanish version have discovered their own set of difficulties.
The site, CuidadoDeSalud.gov, launched more than two months late.
A Web page with Spanish instructions linked users to an English form.
And the translations were so clunky and full of grammatical mistakes that critics say they must have been computer-generated — the name of the site itself can literally be read "for the caution of health."
"When you get into the details of the plans, it's not all written in Spanish. It's written in Spanglish, so we end up having to translate it for them," said Adrian Madriz, a health care navigator who helps with enrollment in Miami.
Read the full story here. In addition to the translation problems, users are having the same technical difficulties actually purchasing health insurance. Even in California, only a very small number (5,500) have signed up for insurance in Spanish, though the state estimates more than 4 million people in the state speak only in that language.

Remind me again how any of this benefits Americans?

How is that "assimilation" working out for you?
Doesn't seem any of my business what language other people decide to speak.
Would you want to live here:
http://www.amren.com/features/.....ooks-like/
I don't think so. But you want to force your fellow Americans who are not as wealthy as you to live in places like that. There is a word for people like you: traitors.
That's hilarious.
The article you link to is basically shrieking about the grand horror of street murals.
Oh no! People are speaking Spanish, there's a statue of a Mexican, and there are people from Somalia walking around in public?
Truly we are living in desperate times as the noble and righteous Anglo-Saxon is driven before the colored horde! It's like Genghis Khan all over again!
My favorite part is this:
So it's bad when people from Somalia don't adopt American values and it's also bad when they do adopt American values.
That almost makes it seem like you're just a racist looking for any excuse to mock non-whites.
Well, in fainess he is anti-market and anti-consumerist.
Hey, Merkin! Fuck you!

No, that's why I don't.

Assuming that you are willing to provide an interpreter every time you are required to interact with them.
Almost all second generation Americans, whether Latino, Asian, or whatever, speak fluent English.
No shit. My great-grandparents on both sides immigrated from Eastern Europe. None of them learned much English, but all their children spoke English as their first language and their "mother tongue" as a second language. The third generation spoke a little of the "mother tongue" and my generation (fourth generation) even less.
"for the caution of health."
That's some great shit right there.
TOP. MEN.
This is what happens when you rely on Google translate.
Maybe he translated it himself with his mad linguist skills.
Whoever did that video doesn't actually seem to know how to speak English.
If you're going to make fun of Obama for pretentiously failing to speak a foreign language correctly, you should probably know where apostrophes and commas go in your native tongue.
Your dissatisfaction with whomever made that video does not absolve Obama in the slightest.
Well, he admitted he doesn't know how to speak Austrian.
Irregardless...

that's fucking awesome
I've been hunting that clip since about my second day looking at streaming video. Finally had to make it myself.

Mirroring problems with the federal health care website
Well, unless the contractors are incompetent beyond any comprehension of professional software development incompetence, they're the same site, just with different content pulled up depending on whether the user's session has been marked as English or Spanish. So of course they will have the exact same problems as English speaking users.
If they built two separate sites, well, it's time to get some marshmallows, sit back, and watch this mother fucker burn.
Copy paste counts as code reuse, right?
On a positive note, has anyone else noticed a COMPLETE retreat of their progressive friends on facebook ?
Day one of O'care I heard a flurry of "Thank you Light Bringer for giving us the healthcare we never ever before had !!!11"
By the end of the first week, complete silence. I'm a little concerned that most have offed themselves, it is a proggie ghost town where before daily posts extolling the virtue of all that was Obama could be heard.
I think the Dems are going to get creamed this 2014 as so many of their proggie foot soldiers are now in hiding.
I had already hidden most of the people who would be inclined to extol the virtues of Obamacare, but you're right; there hasn't been a fucking peep. In fact, I've noticed an almost total environment of apolitical posts. Abysmal failures seem to shut the partisans up pretty good.
What do they need to pipe up about? It is like Leninists calling for elections a year after the Red Terror.
I still keep getting that fucking stupid Fukushima radiation map in my feed, 2-3 times a week.

Usually dumb hot chicks, so it's a dilemma.
Install that cat/puppy add-in that when it sees political keywords in someone's post it replaces it with cute kitten pics or something like that.
I didn't know about that.

Don't use Facebook.
Don't use Facebook.
That's my preferred solution.
I think I may have created a dummy Facebook account once, only to read a link that claimed you had to have an account to read. But I don't think I've ever logged on since using that account.
I enjoy Facebook through my wife who has well over a hundred "friends" thanks to her hobby of raising reptiles. She'll friend just about anyone who likes snakes and lizards. She's smart enough to keep her posts apolitical, being that she's a libertarian leaning conservative (I can sell her on most things libertarian except the whole drug thing, she still can't grasp the "saying drugs should be legal because prohibition is worse is not the same thing as saying drugs are good and wonderful and for everyone" concept) and knows her views are unpopular.
I'm a foodie, and have found dozens of awesome places to eat thanks to Facebook friends. I try to stay apolitical, but I'll give a good asskicking to anybody who really deserves it.
This is why I chose to consummate my support for gay marriage by having sex with another man, despite not personally being gay. How could I possible condone its legality unless I partake in it myself?
I'm still on the fence about gun control, though. I don't support the feds imposing arbitrary bans on firearms, but at the same time I don't own a gun so I must on some level favor gun control.
And don't get me started about warrantless wiretapping and bulk data collection. The only reason someone might oppose either is because they're hiding something, right?
Ask her where a Kofiau Green Tree Python is from. Ask her to point out its home to you on a world map. If she refuses, tell her that you don't believe in coercion.
Why would anyone use Facebook, when he could post on Hit n Run? I'm not on Facebook. I lasted for three days realizing that it interfered with my drinking. Whereas Hit n Run encourages drinking.
When I've had too much to drink to even comment on Hit n Run, or when I do and misread others comments and get all pissed off and all. It's okay. This is a friendly place. No one cares if you say fuck or if you don't give a fuck. Just don't PROJECT. That's what I like.
Usually dumb hot chicks, so it's a dilemma.
I got a friend from high school who's a cocktail waitress at one of those bar/clubs in Las Vegas where the girls wear lingerie or string bikinis.
So I do enjoy the work pictures she posts from time to time. She's also a libertarian.
Pics or it didn't happen.
That map is pissing me off as well as that stupid youtube video showing increased radioactivity on a Cali beach.
Those 2, and the one about the tuna.
It's the Cuntium and Douchium that are particularly lethal.
One thing you will never see, hear, or read, is "I was wrong."
Still, Gabriel Sanchez, a political science professor at the University of New Mexico, said the problems hurt the credibility of federal officials and reinforce the belief held by some that authorities are indifferent to the plight of Latinos.
Sanchez said, "They will look at this, and think, 'Man, they really don't care about us.'"

No, they don't care - they OBAMA-CARE!
Why ever think of people as the plural of individuals when you can assign them to a group?

I have found the greatest article on dating that you will ever see.
Man. This guy must be an absolute pleasure to date. He seems really interesting and is not in any way prone to boring navel gazing.
He had just read Ursula K. Le Guin's The Left Hand of Darkness and got inspired. It'll pass. For his sake, I hope so.
Show me someone who claims to be bisexual, and I'll show you someone with one foot in the closet.
That was a topic of contentious debate here a few months ago. There are a couple of semi-regulars here who claim to be Bi.
I try to start that debate whenever opportunity arises. Call me a master-baiter.
I think the emphasis should be on the 'sexual' part. I can believe that there are men out there who only find satisfying emotional relationships with women while still enjoying sex with dudes.
There are also gay men who enjoy sex with women, but only find satisfying emotional relationships with men. I've known a few. They fully identify as gay and when they have sex with women they're not trying to prove anything. They just don't want girlfriends or wives - seems to be some lack of a mental connection, and lack of patience with the dynamic that tends to arise between males and females in ongoing relationships.
I have a gay friend who once was involved with a woman, and it resulted in his American made Les Paul being buried in the the backyard by her jealous boyfriend. He hasn't touched a woman, or a Les Paul, since.
Les Paul's are REALLY expensive....
delete any. extra apostrophe's, a's, required.
Les Paul's are REALLY expensive....
Mine wasn't that expensive. Then again it was made in Mexico.
Wow, that is both creative and harsh. Having a gay man poach your woman must really smart.
I just assume everyone on here but myself have at sometime in their lives have had sex with another man, or another woman, and maybe they liked it, maybe not, not really my business, and it would be impolite to make it my business.
Do you disagree at all with his social constructivist cultural marxism(all brains are the same!) or are you just making fun of his obvious problems with women. and if it's the second one, you, as a libertarian, are one to talk.
Shut the fuck up, American.
Interesting. So all sexual preference really boils down to fetishism, at least to the author.

It's Mazda's great little car?
Not really. Cuidado de salud does mean care for health (cuidado can be used as a warning as "be careful!" or to say "watch out!" or to mean "taking care of" when used as a noun), except it should include the article la as in "Cuidado de la salud" but the term is not used to mean health insurance. We use "Seguro de Gastos M?dicos" to say medical cost insurance.
No, that is meaningless. Should be "Me quito el sobrero por Popehat" or, more literally, "Una inclinaci?n de sombrero para Popehat." You can also say "Una quitada de sombrero para Popehat" which means "A tipping of the hat for Popehat."
I would use "Un saludo a Popehat por el v?nculo" which translates "A greeting to Popehat for the link."
Sorry, we Spanish-speaking folk don't have such a short and concise idiom.

?but the term is not used to mean health insurance. We use "Seguro de Gastos M?dicos" to say medical cost insurance.
Well, that does parallel the English version. It's not HealthInsurance.gov. Might as well give it a deceptive name in Spanish too.
Anyway, have you checked out the site? These things really shouldn't surprise me at this point, but if they just ran the English site through Google Translate instead of finding a few native speakers to do it, that would be a staggering new level of incompetence (and/or indifference). It looks alright to me, at a glance, but I don't think my Spanish is good enough to differentiate between a good translation and a lazy one.
It's a common practice in California, where affirmative action is supposedly illegal, to give preferences to those who can speak Spanish, constituting discrimination against the monolingual, i.e., normal people.
No it doesn't.
Back in the 80s, when there were terroist attacks in France, they wanted to make people from the terrorists' countries get visas, but they realized that they'd get called racist, so they added the US to the legislation.
When my parents were going to visit France, they had to get visas, and called the French consulate, whereupon the receptionist answered the phone in French. When my Dad said he didn't understand, the receptionist rather snottily made a comment about Americans not knowing foreign languages.
My father answered her. In German.
I recently read a piece by a White American liberal complaining that, in France, he was treated like a Frenchman and not like a threat to French society.
http://opinionator.blogs.nytim.....over/?_r=3
Asking someone to speak a language that most of the customers speak is not discrimination.
You had it right the first time with "Shut the fuck up, American."
Yes it is. To you it's "justified" discrimination. Because in your mind, Americans should be punished for not speaking the language of the immigrants.
Shut the fuck up, American
What's a pederast, Smilin' Joe?
It's discrimination to hire people who have the skills for the job if one of those skills is being able to communicate with the customers.
That's a whole lot of stupid you got there. I must hurt.
*It*
Governments don't have "customers," idiot.
Really? So when I go to the DMV I am not a customer?
That's the logical equivalent of calling the money I give to Wal Mart in exchange for groceries "taxes."
No it's not and this is a stupid argument. Has your fourth chin grown into your brain, American, because your arguments are even worse today than usual.
Governments don't have "customers," idiot.
And here I thought I was replying in context of you accusing businesses of discrimination for preferring to hire people who can speak Spanish. My bad.
But to answer your point, sure governments have customers. They're called taxpayers. They pay the government taxes, and in return get services like police, courts, garbage collection and such.
But to answer your point, sure governments have customers. They're called taxpayers. They pay the government taxes, and in return get services like police, courts, garbage collection and such.
You forgot about how people are FORCED to pay those taxes. Why should we(normal Americans) be forced to pay for a government that discriminates against us?
You forgot about how people are FORCED to pay those taxes.
So what? If you pay money for goods and services, regardless of it is coerced or not, you're still a customer.
Why should we(normal Americans) be forced to pay for a government that discriminates against us?
Why should anyone be force to pay for anything, especially if they don't want it, regardless of discrimination?
Governments have subjects, not customers.
We do indeed get services in return for paying our taxes. Dave Barry once pointed out that one vital service is not putting us in prison.
Government agencies routinely refer to users of their services as "customers." Most frequently though, I think the word of choice is "consumers."
You didn't mention anything about the government in your post, dumbass.

Or staff. My high school Spanish came in handy in my restaurant years, being that most of the wetback dishwashers and prep-cooks took great pride in their inability to speak English.
Hmm, maybe, just maybe, its because a lot of people in CA are more comfortable speaking Spanish than English and being bilingual is a valuable skill?
No, can't be - its got to be because all these white people hate white people.
Oh, affirmative action has nothing to do with your *language skills - its about racial quotas.
Also
Yeah bilingual people are such freaks! What kinda weirdo speaks two different languages?

You should write that as Obamacare en Espa?ol Est? Muy Malo as a way to refer to its state of being or current condition. Notice I am not saying "est? muy mal" because that would suggest Obamacare is sick or ill.
If you want to say that Obamacare is inherently bad, useless or evil, then you would say "Obamacare es muy malo."

Obama marriage in trouble?

Disclaimer: The Enquirer is the source
The Enquirer exposed John Edwards.
Imagine what they could have done with Gary Hart.
We can only hope so. I want to see how the Obama-fellating press spins that. Who do they side with? The lightbringer, or the Wookie? Oh, it would be so delicious.
I'm sure they'll report it soon. Say Friday, January 20th, 2017.
The Chron would carry it on pg 12, under the fold. 2 column inches, max.
Not that I pay much attention, but the Obamas seem to present a very united front as a couple. If the marriage did break up, the dirt would be delicious.
But I just had a very disturbing thought - regardless of if the Obamas break up, what if Michelle decides to run for some political office after his term ends? What if she becomes a persistent feature of the political scene like Hilary did? More terrifying and heartbreaking visions of the future...
That's a given, regardless of all scenarios.
As jester said, I think her running for office is a given. Once people get a taste of the power, it's hard to give up.
She has a shorter r?sum? than even Hillary, so I don't think she'd be any kind a shoo-in. And why bother with the messiness of elections? Just get appointed ambassador to someplace nice, or take a cushy NGO job.
Wah. I like how Republican first ladies have (so far) kept up with their pet causes and stayed out of politics.
Always let the wookie win.
