North Carolina Teen Killed by Police After Family Calls for Assistance

Family members of the 18-year-old Brunswick County resident shot and killed by a police officer Sunday said he was battling mental illness when he died.
Mark Wilsey Sr. confirmed that his son, Keith Vidal, was killed by a police officer who responded to the family's Boiling Spring Lakes home Sunday afternoon.
"They just shot and killed Keith," he said.
The tan-colored house at 1130 President Drive was cordoned off with yellow crime tape for several hours Sunday afternoon as police investigated.
Law enforcement from Boiling Spring Lakes, Oak Island, Southport and the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office responded to the home.
Emily Flax, public information officer with the sheriff's office, said deputies responded to the scene to support other investigating agencies.
