Poll: Majority of Americans Disagree with President Obama on the Size and Scope of Government
The latest Reason-Rupe poll finds that 52 percent of Americans disagree with President Obama's views on the proper size and power of the government, while 37 percent generally agree with the president on these issues.
Sixty-eight percent of Democrats agree with the president, and 20 percent disagree with him on the size and power of government. In contrast, a majority (59 percent) of independents disagree with President Obama, while 31 percent agree. Less surprisingly, 86 percent of Republicans say they disagree with Obama on government's role while 9 percent agree.
Private sector workers are more likely to disagree with Obama on government's proper role by a margin of 54 to 35 percent, while public sector workers are evenly divided.
While younger millennials are slightly more likely to agree with Obama, older millennials are not. Among 25-34 year olds—the millennials first energized by Obama's 2008 presidential campaign—a majority says they disagree with Obama by a margin of 53 to 35 percent. Younger millennials (18-24) are evenly divided with a plurality (48 percent) who agree with the president, while 43 percent disagree.
Although only a third of older millennials say they agree with President Obama's view on government's power and size, 47 percent of them also approve of his general job performance. This suggests that while young people tend to be more supportive than older age cohorts of President Obama, millennials are willing to disagree with him on critical issues.
Another difference emerges among young nonwhite and white millennials. Nearly two-thirds of white millennials say they generally disagree with Obama on the power of government and 25 percent agree with him. However, among nonwhite millennials 58 percent agree with the president and a third disagree.
Sixty-one percent of white Americans disagree with Obama and 68 percent of African-American disagree with him on government's proper size and power. Latinos, however, are evenly divided.
Nationwide telephone poll conducted Dec 4-8 2013 interviewed 1011 adults on both mobile (506) and landline (505) phones, with a margin of error +/- 3.7%. Princeton Survey Research Associates International executed the nationwide Reason-Rupe survey. Columns may not add up to 100% due to rounding. Soooo….what I’m getting from this is that young, non-white Democrats are the MOST retarded Americans of all.
Your survey, therefore, is RACIST.
Good day, Madam.
OK, but this poll has the same problem as many others: Does anyone else remember the joke about the wish ‘to make my one hand like the other’?
Yeah, some Ds think there’s a problem with the size of the government; it’s too small!
Not only that but has Obama himself come out and said what he thinks is the proper size of government? If he has, I have never heard it. Anyone answering this question will have to guess what is going on in Obama’s head.
That is more or less what I was thinking as I read this. How many of these kids want single payer over the ACA?
“We need to cut government! It’s too big! But don’t cut the military! My son is in the military! And don’t cut Social Security! My parents need Social Security! Same with Medicare! Damn government is too big! Cut it, damn it! But leave the FDA alone! How else will I know my food and drugs are safe! Damn government needs to be cut! Better leave education alone! Education is important! Why won’t anyone cut government spending?”
Check that second to last paragraph about numbers on African-American participants.
When I write the new constitution this issue will be right at the top.
Fuck this “We the People of the United States…” shit. The first line of my new constitution will clearly state:
“The ONLY legitimate role of government is to protect the rights of the people.” Followed by a definition of rights as unlimited negative rights and ONLY those positive rights listed herein. Forever and ever, amen!
” I believe the Constitution should be amended with a clause which states that neither the federal nor any state government shall make any activity that does not violate, through force or fraud, a persons right to life, liberty or property, a crime. ”
-Neal Boortz
Throw in punishments for violating the constitution, to include Rule 8.
And this:
“Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of production and trade.”
-Judge Narragansett
It’s amusing that after being confronted with the fact that a written constitution has failed us, your response is to want to write another one, just harder this time. You seem to think that you as TOP MEN will get it right this time.
You won’t.
As soon as you come up with a VIABLE alternative, I’ll stop trying to fix the best thing yet.
I’ve come to believe ALL governments eventually fail. All you can do is try to make them work for as long as possible.
They are nonetheless, necessary to defend the rights of the individual.
jesus fucking christ on a biscuit. Everybody bitches about the size and scope of govt but no one is willing to give up their particular pony. And when they bitch about something like income inequality, it never dawns on them that there is a causal link between rich people and big govt.
Maybe the next poll should ask what folks are willing to see cut. Names of actual agencies and/or programs, not broad strokes or euphemisms.
no one is willing to give up their particular pony
I am. Not sure what my pony is, but slaughter it.
This. If I shoot my pony first, its okay for me to shoot yours next, right?
I would be disappointed if you didnt.
I’ll even hold him still for you.
“Sure, we’ll kill your pony first and then we’ll totally kill ours too as soon as yours is dead, promise!” /Democrat-controlled senate
And, damn Kate Hudson looks like her mom in that Taboola pic.
Her mom was sexy as hell back in the day. She was the ultimate sexy dumb hippie chick. She was cute in her later movies. But in her early movies like The Cactus Flower, she was awesome.
And she kept her beauty for a LONG time. It’s only recently that I would decline.
Her daughter has never measured up. The other problem with her daughter is that she used to be married to the dirty hippie from the Black Crows. I am not sure I would want to follow that. Yuck.
I think she’s gorgeous. But I’d certainly get her tested first.
She is gorgeous. But I am not sure that kind of funk ever washes off.
She likes to have sex with rock stars who like to have sex with groupies who like to have sex with rock stars who like to have sex with groupies…
If it’s true that when you have sex with someone you’re having sex with everyone they had sex with and everyone they had sex with and so on and so forth, a night with her would be like a night with tens of thousands of people!
It is not who that guy has slept with. It is the fact that he is that guy. She is gorgeous. But it would be hard to get the image of her sleeping with him out of my mind. It is like she slept with a homeless man living in Central Park.
You seen the dweeb she’s currently married to?

I guess she just wanted a guy who bathed.
Don’t want Taboola? Run a script blocker.
(But of course I want to see more KH pix)
Dunno how you guys got selected, but I’m getting nothing about Taboola. Is that some mid-eastern grain?
You running an ad blocker?
Reason stuck a “You may like” “Sponsored Content by Taboola” ad between the article and the comments section. It consists of a block of 6 stories/videos.
Another shameless scam to raise revenue at the expense of its commentariat.
Speaking of the scope of government, get this kick in the nuts from Judge Alex Kozinski.
The panel’s ruling is not just wrong, it is dangerously broad, carrying far-reaching implications for the administration of criminal justice. It effectively announces that the prosecution need not produce exculpatory or impeaching evidence so long as it’s possible the defendant would’ve been convicted anyway. This will send a clear signal to prosecutors that, when a case is close, it’s best to hide evidence helpful to the defense, as there will be a fair chance reviewing courts will look the other way, as happened here…
Protecting the constitutional rights of the accused was just not very high on this prosecutor’s list of priorities. The fact that a constitutional mandate elicits less diligence from a government lawyer than one’s daily errands signifies a systemic problem: Some prosecutors don’t care about Brady because courts don’t make them care…
There is an epidemic of Brady violations abroad in the land. Only judges can put a stop to it.

Hey now! Prosecutors don’t take innocent people to court! Why do you want to protect criminals?
Poll: Majority of Americans Disagree with President Obama on the Size and Scope of Government are racists /DERP
If people only voted the way they polled . . . .
But there is no better illustration of the difference between stated and revealed preferences than the gap between poll results and elections.
