Did you know that Reason magazine, Reason.com, and Reason Foundation (the nonprofit that publishes this website) publishes 10 different email newsletters covering topics such as breaking news, what's new at Reason.com, and policy areas ranging from privatization to air-traffic control to education?

Sign up for any or all here.

Reason TV's YouTube channel has about 87,000 subscribers, who can get automatic notifications when we make new material live online. Go here to sign up for that (takes about a minute).

Reason's Facebook page has about 116,000 likes but we'd love to have twice that many. We post several times a day to Facebook and the comment threads there are a great way to learn just what we're doing right and, more commonly, just how goddamned stupid we really are. Check it out - and while you're there, give us a like, won't you?

We've got two Twitter feeds, one for the site as a whole and one for our nonstop rat-a-tat newsfeed Reason 24/7, which gives you the latest breaking news that is of particular interest to libertarians and other beautiful, clean-smelling smart people.

And rumor has it that we push a monthly magazine too, in both dead-tree and digital versions for every once and future reading device, for less than $15 a year. Check it out here.

As noted above, all of Reason's platforms are published by the nonprofit Reason Foundation. Donations to the foundation are tax-deductible and they help to let us keep bringing you the latest news and analysis from a "Free Minds and Free Markets" perspective you're not going to find anywhere else. Go here to read about how we use your (tax-deductible!) donations. And yes, we do take Bitcoin!

And note that we're going to be running our annual webathon from December 3 through December 12, during which we'll be soliciting donations and giving away fun and interesting swag. Stay tuned for more info on giving levels.

Start your day with Reason. Get a daily brief of the most important stories and trends every weekday morning when you subscribe to Reason Roundup.

I love the smell of webathon in the morning.

  2. Archduke von Pantsfan   12 years ago

    I will donate snark.

    1. Mickey Rat   12 years ago

Do you donate ice to Eskimos, too?

  3. The Rt. Hon. Serious Man, Visc   12 years ago

we'll be soliciting donations and giving away fun and interesting swag

Does swag include a limited edition set of bobbleheads featuring the likeness of the Reason staff? How about a sexy Men of Reason calender?

Hell, I'll settle for the website eliminating the character limit imposed on comments or at least increasing it from 1500 to 2000.

    1. SweatingGin   12 years ago

I'll donate to get rid of the taboola-whatever ads

      1. The Rt. Hon. Serious Man, Visc   12 years ago

See, that's how a true Ferengi libertarian does business: impose some intolerable condition on your customer and then have them bargain for you to take it away.

        1. prolefeed   12 years ago

If having to limit posts to 1500 characters or break them into multiple posts is your idea of "intolerable", then you have First World problems.

    2. Archduke von Pantsfan   12 years ago

      bring back blink tags

      1. SIV   12 years ago

        marquee tags too !

        1. Generic Stranger   12 years ago

How about bringing back the ability to imbed images?

We had it briefly, but it was taken from us.

    3. Ted S.   12 years ago

Hell, I'll settle for the website eliminating the character limit imposed on comments

You want HERCULES TRIATHLON SAVINIEN to come back?

You want long, long thread that are nothing but copied-and-pasted earlier comments?

      1. The Rt. Hon. Serious Man, Visc   12 years ago

What? Herc was amusing and he certainly added more to the threads than Palin's Buttplug.

        1. Ted S.   12 years ago

I seem to recall Herc as posting long walls of text with lots of stuff [in square brackets]. Conspiracy theory shit, no less.

          1. Archduke von Pantsfan   12 years ago

            He liked cats.

          2. Generic Stranger   12 years ago

Herc's walls o' text weren't nearly as bad as when Mary went off her meds and started copy-pasting entire comment threads into multiple individual posts.

    4. Generic Stranger   12 years ago

How much for a GODDAMNED EDIT BUTTON?!

  4. SweatingGin   12 years ago

    How about bitcoins?

Nah, I'm probably holding on to those.

  5. JeremyR   12 years ago

Go ask Chris Christie for some money.

    1. SIV   12 years ago

Don't forget Marco Rubio and Bobby Jindal. NEVER FORGET:

Fortunately for libertarian-minded voters, Palin and Cruz are hardly the only fishes in the sea. As the recent report on young voters from the College Republican National Committee pointed out, the GOP is flush with next-generation leaders, among them Chris Christie, Rubio, and Bobby Jindal.

  6. SweatingGin   12 years ago

You should auction site features (maybe for a limited time)

Bid x, threading turned off. (P brooks mode)
Bid y, pick the link color

And definitely let us put a message in the bidder banner.

and one for our nonstop rat-a-tat newsfeed Reason 24/7,

There are people who like 24/7?

    1. The Rt. Hon. Serious Man, Visc   12 years ago

"24/7"? Look to top right of this page. It hasn't been updated since Wednesday! What else could 24/7 mean?

      1. Ted S.   12 years ago

24 minutes an hour, 7 days a month?

    2. SweatingGin   12 years ago

By non-stop, he means nothing happened since Wednesday.

  8. Ted S.   12 years ago

How much do we have to donate for you to bring back Lucy?

    2. Generic Stranger   12 years ago

  10. Ted S.   12 years ago

Look at all the cranks with no life posting here. 🙁

    1. jesse.in.mb   12 years ago

It's barely dinner time here, Ted. You should post from a more luxurious weekend timezone.

      1. Ted S.   12 years ago

In a few hours I'll be in bed. You'll be one of the cranks still posting here.

    2. Generic Stranger   12 years ago

    1. Ted S.   12 years ago

I presume everybody is rooting for Michigan State and Duke next week?

      1. BiMonSciFiCon   12 years ago

Well, I'll be rooting for Duke, but I believe I'm the only one.

Also, no one roots for MSU. No one. On Wisconsin (to the Outback Bowl!)

"I just tell them the application asks you to mark your sex and I did. It didn't ask me for my gender."

Almost as tricky as getting the hang of Klingon pronouns.

    3. Redmanfms   12 years ago

      Fuck me people are bizarre.

I really do wonder if people like this chick do it for attention, whatever attention they might gain, good or bad.

Mel Goodwin, youth program director at the gay and lesbian community center in Las Vegas, said getting the hang of alternative pronouns can be tricky in conversation.

No shit. When you have weird self-absorbed nitwits who are trying to reinvent their sex/gender and get all pissy when nobody knows what the fuck to call them I imagine having a conversation with them must be torturous.

      1. Ted S.   12 years ago

Finnish doesn't have separate words for "he" or "she"; the word h?n covers both in the singular.

Or, people at the community center could just all use "it", even for the people who aren't transgedered/bigendered/whatever other buzzword is being used these days.

Actor Paul Walker dies in car crash

"The Fast and the Furious" movie star Paul Walker, 40, has reportedly died in a car accident Saturday afternoon in southern California, reports TMZ.

The accident occurred in Santa Clarita ? outside of Los Angeles ? when Walker's Porsche apparently lost control and crashed into a tree, TMZ reported. The car burst into flames and exploded, TMZ reported.

A source close to the actor confirmed to Variety that he died in the crash as well.

    Too fast, too furious.

      http://www.edmunds.com/car-new.....-dead.html

Actor Paul Walker, 40, whose best known role has been that of Brian O'Connor in the Fast & Furious series of films was killed late this afternoon in a fiery one-car accident near his race shop, Always Evolving (AE) Performance. He was, according to his representatives in a Facebook post, the passenger in the car when it went out of control.

AE Performance was holding a Reach Out Worldwide charity open house to benefit victims of the recent disaster in the Philippines, along with gathering items for Toys for Tots. According to the Santa Clarita Valley Signal's Web site, the car involved was a red Porsche Carrera GT belonging to AE Performance. The driver of the Porsche was reportedly Roger Rodas, a co-founder of AE Performance and regular competitor in Time Attack and Pirelli World Challenge events.

I'd guess since this is his own shop's car, that "out of control" means that something went wrong with the modifications to his Porsche, resulting in a stuck throttle (I'm assuming the Carrera GT drive-by-wire)

    7. Ted S.   12 years ago

Actually, it's more like 7 Fast 7 Furious. I think that's what they were up to.

Of course, the original Fast and the Furious is better.

Ohio man seizes multiple homes, attempts to claim them under obscure Ohio law

A family in Springdale returned from an out-of-town visit to a dying relative to find someone else had moved into their home of 21 years. Their outrage has now turned into a court battle, pitting them against a man who says he has the legal documents to prove the house is his.

WLWT News 5's Karin Johnson began to investigate and uncovered a dozen cases, all linked to the same man.

Robert Carr went into the home on Springdale Lake Drive, changed the locks and emptied the house. The family said when they confronted Carr, he showed them a document he filed with the Hamilton County Court.

It's called a "quiet title" and lays claim to the property because Carr said the family abandoned the house and gave up all rights.

Family members said they are too afraid to be identified.

"What he's looking for is full title and ownership of the home," the family's attorney, Alison Warner, said.

Carr expects to pay nothing to take the home.

"He's in their home. They don't know when he's there. He can be there now," Warner said.

Johnson discovered 11 houses where Carr has filed the same paperwork. The homes are in Springdale, Forest Park, Fairfield and Hamilton. Seven of the cases were filed on the same day.

      1. Sevo   12 years ago

There are strange squatter laws left over from the first 'progressive' movements in the early 20th-century. I can only hope the dregs of the current one will get removed before more damage is done.
