Grosse Pointe Michigan Police Accused of Videotaping Black Men While Making Them Sing and Dance
Bizarre and gross allegations of police misconduct out of Grosse Pointe Michigan from the Detroit Free Press:
Grosse Pointe Park law enforcement is investigating allegations that officerstook photos and video of black men while making them sing and dance like chimps.
Public Safety Department officials…forwarded a statement confirming an investigation has begun. The statement says the department was contacted by a man who said he was in possession of video clips and a photo of black men that apparently were made by an officer from the city's police force….
Grosse Pointe Park is an affluent city in metro Detroit with a population of a little more than 11,000, according to U.S. census figures. About 10.5% of residents are African American.
The investigation began after Steve Neavling of the Motor City Muckrakernews site posted a story last week detailing several incidents, which he said were among about a dozen videos being being shared from phones of Grosse Pointe Park police officers….
A couple of the video clips supposedly showing this behavior can be found at the original Motor City Muckraker News story mentioned above. (In one of them, the mocking officer is black.)

Wait, sing and dance like chimps? This sounds a little crazy, even for cops. Besides, what characterizes chimp dancing, and when did chimps start singing?
Haven't you seen Planet of the Apes - The Musical?
Those were trained, animated chimps.
Dr Zaius Dr Zaius
Or, Dr. Zaius does "Mark Twain Tonight."
The last video in that second link will be educational on the "like chimps" characterization by the Free Press reporter.
I can't make it out in my browser, but I'll take your word for it. Pretty insane, the hubris it takes to do something like that.
Procedures were followed?
It's a madhouse! A madhouse!
Does that make it okay? No I know what wrong is, and this, this is wrong.
Waffles---Of course not. In my years of blogging this sort of thing I've gotten a sixth sense for the sort of detail that if I did NOT spell it out would get annoyed pro-cop jerks calling me an idiot lying hack for not mentioning them, so I mentioned it.
Didn't Speed Racer have a chimp? So...Speed RACIST is more like it, amirite?
Can't watch right now. Please tell me they were shooting at their feet yelling obscenities.
If this nutpunch isn't bad enough, feel free to read this enraging article about how the NYPD and DA put a 16 year old in jail for 3 years without trial before dropping the charges.

In honor of Abe Lincoln, they suspended Habeas Corpus.

Awful. But, sadly, they are the lucky ones since so many other encounters with cops seem to end with dead citizens.
That was my thought, at least only their dignity was assaulted.
Where's your spirit? I don't hear no singin'. When you was slaves, you sang like birds.:

Grosse Pointe? I'm drawing a complete...blank.

Maybe I'm missing something, or something occurred off camera, but I don't see any coercion involved in these videos. Somebody seeing something I don't?
Because there's no reason a rational individual might be wary of refusing a "request" (however absurd or insulting) by one of our brave officers of the law?
Because ....
FYTW.
If you want the Reason.com crowd to stop thinking critically, just say something about cops and they follow it--hook, line and sinker.
Neither video shows the cops forcing anybody to do anything. The first is a mentally challenged man, or so he appears, being asked to do "his song" by a cop sitting in the cruiser as the man stands outside. The second video shows a man leaning into an open cop car window making sounds and then walking off. If either video showed the cops "forcing" anybody, it was edited out by the website trying to "expose" cops. The second video could have been a guy trying to mock police.
If the po-po put out these videos you guys would take a fine tooth comb to find the inconsistencies in the story, but since it is about the police, it must be true.
The cops may be doing the things reported (not beyond the realm of possibility or even probability), but the videos certainly don't show it.
I couldn't tell anything from the videos.
