Abortion Doc Gosnell Rejects Federal Plea Deal

Accused of running pain pill mill

Convicted former abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell today rejected a plea offer from federal prosecutors on charges he operated a pill mill out of his abortion clinic, a move that forces the matter to a trial scheduled for September.

It was the second time this month that all sides had gathered and a hearing was held in which Gosnell, 72, was expected to accept a plea offer ending the federal case against him, only to have him decline to accept the deal.

Prosecutors say staffers at Gosnell's Women's Medical Society clinic in West Philadelphia would hand over prescriptions for pain medication for $150 without a medical evaluation.
