Rhode Island: Lawsuit Against 38 Studios, Curt Schilling & Co. Should Move Ahead

The saga continues for 38 Studios, the video game company founded by former Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling, which received a $75 million loan from the state of Rhode Island less than a year before going bankrupt. As reported by the Associated Press:

Rhode Island's economic development agency says there is "crushing evidence" that former Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling and others concealed financial information about his now-defunct video game company and that its lawsuit against them should be allowed to move ahead.

It would be shocking if, when 38 Studios drew up the docs, that there wasn't some kind of clause in there stating that the agency that made this loan had whatever period of time to do their due diligence.

Honestly, not knowing anything about the particulars of this case, the simplest explanation is not that 38 Studios defrauded the State of Rhode Island. The simplest explanation is that the State of Rhode Island failed to do their due diligence.

P.S. The State of Rhode Island being in the gaming business is also absurd on its face.

"Economic development agencies", even before we begin describing their absolutely infinite practical and moral ineffectiveness and depravity, sound intuitively ridiculous. How the fuck do people fall for this governmental bullshit?

This sounds like nothing more than coercing Shilling and Co. to offer a settlement in lieu of millions in legal bills for as long as R.I. wishes to pursue the matter. Most grand juries will allow the prosecution to go forward on the flimsiest of evidence. If I was on the grand jury, I'd ask why the clown who approved the loan wasn't being indicted.
