Brickbat: Up in Smoke
Scott Smithwick says Gwinnett County, Georgia, police refused to believe him when he told them the indoor growing system he set up is for growing tropical plants, not marijuana. After they'd twice searched his home and found no pot, officers still threatened to arrest Smithwick. "The sergeant told me based on (the) fertilizers and the lights in the room, I could be charged with manufacturing marijuana and held without bond and sent to prison," Smithwick told an Atlanta TV station.

The coppers were fully turgid at this point and would be damned if they would let this little tease leave them with blue authority balls.
I'm just wondering why they didn't plant any evidence...
You mean, leave something incriminating there? Corrupt cops, is that the story you're trying to petal? From where does this distrust of law enforcement stem?
It's because of the 99% of bad apples that give the 1% of good officers a bad name. They're at the root of the problem.
Well still it's police actions like this which hopefully will continue to cultivate an anti-authoritarian streak in the country. Here's to hoping they eventually reap what they sow.
Corn rigs and barley rigs.
It will be a bitter harvest indeed.
Winter's coming.
They were just upset that the guy didn't soil his pants when they started waving their guns around.
Yup; being a police officer is becoming a plum job for these neanderthals. These thugs are turning this place into a banana republic.
Resistance is fruitless!!
They are part of the new nobility, the new knighthood. They serve their lord (politicians) and help extract from the serfs (taxpayers).
They were just upset that the guy didn't soil his pants when they started waving their guns pistils around.
How could you miss that!?
Sloopy
And Balko.
From their own actions.
From their own actions.
Show me someone who trusts law enforcement and I'll show you someone who has never dealt with law enforcement other than a traffic ticket.
Show me someone who trusts law enforcement and I'll show you someone who has never dealt with law enforcement other than a traffic ticket.
FIFY.
No kidding. Something has gone wrong in an allegedly free society when the instinctive reaction to any sighting of a cop is anxiety and dread.
And that is the universal reaction, even from the most solid of citizens with the clearest of consciences.
What kind of person seeks out an occupation where they know that they instill anxiety and dread on whomever they may meet?
Or is a cop, or a DA, or someone married to one of those people.
Ah, the Drug War. Is there any Constitutional right that it can't overcome?
So far the 6th Amendment appear to still have legs.
I don't know, ask Bradley Manning about that speedy trial bit.
Indefinate detention is Constitutional? 6th Amendment is dead dude, right along with the 4th. 2nd is on life support, but Obama claims his right as king to pull the plug.
Does "speedy trial" mean anything at all? People routinely spend weeks or months in pre-trial detention. That doesn't sound like speedy trial to me.
How about the 3d and 11th? I don't think it's screwed up the 25th, either.
"The sergeant told me based on (the) fertilizers and the lights in the room, I could be charged with manufacturing marijuana and held without bond and sent to prison,"
The proper response:
"Good arrest me and hold me without bond, so I can make the Gwinnett county taxpayers fund my early retirement."
I doubt the copper would care. It's not like he would be in any way on the hook for that, besides whatever part his taxes add to the county coffers.
I know he wouldn't, I'm just saying cash in on your golden ticket.
THEN WHY DIDN'T YOU SAY THAT?
I just did. Can't you read?!
[sobbing] Nooo-oo-oooo-oo.
I hope they weren't *gasp* incandescent lights.
After two strikes, Smithwick really should set up a surveillance system in his home that streams the video to a secure server in another country. The next time the cops come to harass him, they'll be sure to bring something to drop at the scene to justify beating him up.

He'd still have to get it admitted as evidence, which'd be virtually impossible if they really wanted to prosecute him.
Violent retribution is the only logical response, but something about knees and living is how most Americans feel.
He'd still have to get it admitted as evidence,
Using it in court is not the only purpose it could serve. Publishing it as widely as possible to expose the corruption can sometimes result in crooks getting bounced of the taxpayers' teat.

Still would NOT keep him out of prison if that's where they decided they wanted him.
Which I am sure they would if he published it widely.
Especially after the public forgot about him when the new season of Jersey Shore came out.
See, e.g. Nakoula B. Nakoula.
^This.
If he's got the bucks to grow exotic plants he's got the buck for some prison insurance.
I'm surprised he didn't get a fat lip for contempt of cop.
What, he didn't have any dogs the cops could shoot?
This is a perfect example of 'Fuck you, that's why'.
Sometimes dude, you jsut have to roll with the punches.

Mrs. Smith's kindergarten class was handcuffed and strip searched today because of their inexcusable use of pipe cleaners. The crying children told the officers that they were using them to make crafts but the police were not fooled by that obvious ruse.
Fuck cops. Fuck them all.
Well, duh. Just look at the dude. He's one of those liberal pinko commie hippies. If they can't get him on weed charges, they'll find something. Everyone commits "three felonies per day". Dude better STFU and learn how to lick fat, hairy cop ass, or he's gonna need some soap-on-a-rope.
Confucius say: Better to lick ass than take it in ass.
