Republicans in Idaho Say It's Time to Legalize Marijuana
The Blaine County Republican Central Committee in Idaho's Wood River Valley surprised their colleagues at the state level last week by passing a resolution calling for the legalization of marijuana. The Times-News reports:
Committeman Mike Connor said the resolution passed 6-2. Much of the discussion before the vote focused on the failure of the War on Drugs, and how to most effectively keep marijuana away from children, he said.
"The Blaine County GOP believes that the time has come to amend criminal prohibition and replace it with a system of legalization, and education," the resolution says. It goes on to discuss violent crime and the black market that marijuana criminalization has created, and how legalization will help regulation.
Not all Blaine County Republicans agree with the resolution. Sheriff Gene Ramsey, who didn't attend the meeting, said marijuana and other drugs should remain illegal.
"I think that we need to, as a nation, take a hard stand on drugs," Ramsey said. With marijuana decriminalization, "we're sending the wrong example to our youth."
"It may not be working, but that doesn't mean you should just give up," [Ramsey] said.
Connor, meanwhile, emphasized that he's not in favor of more drug use, but "ensur[ing] criminals won't benefit from the sale of marijuana."

"It may not be working, but that doesn't mean you should just give up,"
And there you have it, folks.
I dont have a problem with the concept of what he said. However, if he had said it correctly, "It may be making the problem worse, but that doesnt mean you should just give up," then I would be right there with you.
He is lying to himself. It isnt just not working, its making things much worse.
Did anyone ask about the time frame for that, er, method of doing things? 40 years? 50? Ugh.
Just take a "HARD STAND ON DRUGS"!
Quitters
It's not easy to get a hard stand while on drugs, though that still doesn't stop the Devil Weed from impregnating daughters.
It just about having enough faith. Not in God or yourself, but in politicians. In their ability and in their integrity.
That's kinda like having faith in a fairy tale.
It hasn't worked for the SEVENTY YEARS that we've had it. Just WHEN do we concede that we need to try something new?
"It may not be working, but that doesn't mean you should just give up,"
TRY MOAR HARDER!
Erma H. Gerd, he uses that ridiculous non-argument and doesn't even word it correctly. What example does such blatant fucktardery set for de yoots?
It sends the message that smoking the devil's weed is not an immoral act.
Remember that drugs are bad because they're bad. Same as rape and murder. Well, except that there's no victim and everything is consensual and if you own your own body then what you smoke is nobody's business but your own, but other than that it is morally repugnant on the same level as burglary and arson.
Can't send the message that smoking marijuana is acceptable behavior.
Where the hell is the like button?
More Republicans like these local committee members. They're out there and they are growing. 🙂
Shh, yes they're growing, after all they have big useless farms in Idaho, and potatoes don't bring in squat. They are trying to be part of the solution, don't let the feds know what they are growing.
There is nothing conservative about prohibition. It enlists the most centralized state power in displacement of domestic and community roles. There is everything authoritarian and subversive about this policy, which has incinerated American traditions such as Freedom and Federalism with its puritanical flames. Any person seeking to insure, and not further compromise, the safety of their family and neighbors must not only repudiate prohibition but also help spearhead its abolition.
"Narcotics police are an enormous, corrupt international bureaucracy ? and now fund a coterie of researchers who provide them with 'scientific support' ? fanatics who distort the legitimate research of others.? The anti-marijuana campaign is a cancerous tissue of lies, undermining law enforcement, aggravating the drug problem, depriving the sick of needed help, and suckering well-intentioned conservatives and countless frightened parents." ? William F. Buckley, commentary in The National Review, April 29, 1983, p. 495
We will always have adults who are too immature to responsibly deal with tobacco, alcohol, heroin, cocaine, meth, various prescription drugs, gambling, and even food. Our answer to them should always be: Get a Nanny, and stop turning the government into one for the rest of us!
"It may not be working, but that doesn't mean you should just give up,"
Is the official slogan of numerous government agencies and activist groups. The only surprise is that he was so open about it.
That's the People's Reublic of Blaine County. Sun Valley, Ketchum, Hailey; Californicators and other transplants, not exactly a hotbed of libertarian self ownership leave-me-the-fuck-alone-ism.
I lived there. I know.
p
And. of course...
Anybody of any political tribe who is willing to acknowledge the pernicious futility of the drug war deserves a hearty "Welcome, Friend'.
Sounds like a pretty good plan to me dude. Wow.

I live about 45 minutes away from Blaine County.. you should know that Blaine county is the only county in Idaho that ALWAYS votes democratic. Latah county sometimes does as well.
Republicans want to legalize marijuana???? oh shit I think I just seen a flying pig...no no no, it was just an airplane with a pig in it. http://420college.net
"marijuana and other drugs should remain illegal." People still consider weed to be a drug? -____-
Our laws should be based on fact, science and reason and NOTHING else. If a policy that we've followed for SEVENTY YEARS doesn't work then it's time to try something that does! How about the one we use to control alcohol?
Marijuana is significantly milder, safer and less addictive than alcohol and we could prevent a lot of the harm that's caused by alcohol by letting people choose marijuana instead of alcohol. Legalize Marijuana Like Wine!
Time to get rid of Ramsey.
Preferably by lynching or summary execution, along with his family.
In any case, FUCK THAT ASSHOLE!
