Obama Supporters Confronted with President's Record on Surveillance, Detention, Kill Lists
It's different when the guy you like does it
So it turns out Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz isn't the only one who has no idea what the president she is supporting is actually doing with his executive authority.
WeAreChange.org is back with a new video about President Barack Obama's security actions. This time they track down supporters of Obama on the street and pull a little trick. They detail a bunch of Romney's positions on surveillance, detention and drone strikes that just so happen to match Obama's. When supporters think these are Romney's positions, they are quick to judge him as bad and dangerous. But then the reporter tells them that these positions are also Obama's and detail actions he's taking right now. And then? Watch:

In their defense, the Obama supporters are less obtuse than the Burning Man idiots demanding their right to be regulated. I don't know that they decided to change their votes, but at least they were eventually able to acknowledge that an action does not become just simply because Dear Leader deems it so.
Actions speak louder than words. I'm sure most will shrug it off when the camera is not watching.
See HazelMeade @ 6:49.
How hard is it to link?
How hard is it to read?
Remember who you're dealing with here. Grade on a curve.
Grade on a steep incline.
So, what's the point of the video? To demonstrate once again that people are uninformed and vote for stupid reasons? And the vast majority of people doesn't care about surveillance, detention and drone strikes. These are not important issues for them.
The point is that several of the people were unwilling to change their mind when confronted with facts they didn't want to hear.
To demonstrate that not only are most obama supports uninformed about his policies on civil liberties, they don't actually give a shit about his civil liberties policies when it's stacked up against health care reform.
Which you know, is WHY they are not informed about them. If they gave a shit, they would BE informed. Talk to any progressive, 10 to 1 they know everything about the healthcare debate. Because that's what they actually care about. And they know nothing about Obama's "Kill list" because, underneath it all, they really don't give a shit that he has one.
You're right that it's the only thing they care about. You're wrong that they'll likely know anything about it. Ask them to describe Obamacare and you'll just get some lizard-brain "FREE HEALTHCARE!!1" response.
This is very true. Talk to any group of college age kids and ask them what they think about Obamacare. I have had the occasion to do this a couple of times.
One of the things they say most is 'well, I mean, like, you know, who wouldn't want free health care?'
When you start to explain how the thing actually works to them, the expression is typically one of pure bewilderment, sort of like the two blondes on the video.
Did you bang any of the college chicks? Dude, your storytelling skills still need a ton of work.
To make up for that, here's a video of a woman having an orgasm on a rollercoaster.
Supposedly it's like a thing:
1.
2.
Don't make excuses for him. His chick banging storytelling really needs some work.
Oh I don't deny that.
Fuck both of you with a tazer enabled cattle prod. Don't diss my story tellin, you bastards.
Looks like it was from clenching her abdominal muscles. See here: http://www.livescience.com/191.....asure.html
Either that or vibration from the body harness.
Either way, it's my new fetish.
You are really depressing me here.
My wife doesn't approve of that, Epi. But there are plenty of old stories, plenty. So I already agreed next story has some nailin, calm down.
And again, my story tellin is fucking epic! Epic I tell you!
You better not be writing checks your ass can't cash.
Dude, I have an epic library of stories to be told, yarns of lore and legend, all of them true of course.
Just that all of my stories aren't about fucking, lol.
I have those 2, oh yes, a plenty they be... just I usually don't tell those, cause you know, I don't like to come off like a bragger about the hordes of wimins folk that I have defiled and left heart broken over the course of my many days...
"Look, yes, I have banged hundreds of broads, internationally, but know this: I wrap my rascal TWO times 'cause I like it to be joyless and without sensation, as a way of punishing supermodels."
That's true. You have to find the very hard-core progressives to find the ones that actually understand the details of how it works.
To most of them it's just like "people will get healthcare ... somehow ... even though it's not single payer. But as long as everyone's covered that's all that matters".
I know exactly what you are saying. As a recent out of college graduate, living in a left wingnut city, this is exactly the kind of mentality that is prevailing in our campuses all across this country. The parasite mentality is winning out overall and freedom for the individual to decide is in decline.
I've had that same experience when talking to my kids college peers.
The truly frightening part of it is that supposedly well educated people from middle class and higher backgrounds sound like complete fucking morons when trying to articulate a policy that they passionately support.
Come on, everyone knows that the fastest way to make something cheap and abundant (or hell even FREE!) is to impose a tax for not buying it.
They would hate the details of Obama's "Health Care Reform" also if they knew the details. It still wouldn't change their votes, but they would hate it.
Perhaps they would hate the details, *if* they cared enough to find out about them. For many people, Obama somehow, um, transcends *anything* he says or does. I am truly amazed at his cult of personality.
Re: grrizzly,
We have to be reminded lest we forget.
Which is why the country will slid into the oceans to a bubbly tomb.
Pretty sure that would be Global Warming.
Drones, kill lists and indefinite detention get us to 1984.
Please keep your apocalyptic scenarios straight, jeez!
A WeAreChange.org video?
Needs more "Zionist Bilderbuger Lizard People killed Whitney Houston", and less James Rhodes.
You forgot "fluoride is being added to drinking water to deliberately to pollute our precious bodily fluids."
Well, that's assumed.
Oh man, this video made my week. Hilarious!
You know, I can understand progressives casting a reticent vote for Obama as a tactical measure, just because they think Romney would be a lot worse. If I lived in a swing state I might consider it myself, just because a war with Iran would be so disastrous, and Romney seems to have surrounded himself with foreign policy advisors who could make it happen.
But *enthusiastically* pulling the lever for the guy? How willfully ignorant can they get?
I wouldn't count out Obama gleefully prancing toward war with Iran. He'll put on a show of being reluctant, I'm sure. Last resort, blah blah, I'm a hero making tough hero decisions from the safety of the Oval Office, yada yada.
Freaky, it's like you can read his mind...
Oh, I definitely think there's risk of war even with Obama in the White House, especially if the economy takes another turn down and oil prices crash again like they did in 2008. At that point the distraction and inflationary side effects of war start to look a lot more tempting to any sitting POTUS. I just think the odds are lower with an Obama White House is all.
I think Obama is less likely to attack Iran now that he can't get re-elected. (Assuming he wins that is).
Depends on whether Valerie Jarrett wants war with Iran.
That is the only thing it depends on. Why she hated the people in the Benghazi Consulate is the only real question on that topic.
I don't think she hated them. She just deemed them expendable.
Obama would be way less likely to attack Iran if he lost the election.
On the other hand, Romney supporters can't possibly articulate his views on anything, since he has none, yet it's almost certain he'll be as bad or worse on these issues.
Tony no one gives a rats ass about Romney.
Time for you to stop supporting a war monger and vote for Gary Johnson.
I'd just like to see a Reason video of Romney supporters. The cosmic ignorance of those people can make one want to slit one's throat and end one's earthly misery.
Gary Johnson would kill more Americans than either real candidate if he got his way on domestic policy.
Puttttttin up the goalposts.........
movin' them around.........
yeah, puttttin up the goalposts......
annnnd movin them around......
Sing with me kids!
Is this a Randy Newman song?
What are you talking about? Compare apples to apples. Random-ass Obama supporters to random-ass Romney supporters. See whose ignorance fills you more will a sense of existential dread.
You can do the same with academic-level supporters on either side and the result is about the same.
I think it's obvious which side is more cult-like in their blind adoration of their leader.
I think it's obvious which side is more cult-like in their blind adoration of their leader.
I'll give you that. Nobody actually likes Mitt Romney.
To be fair, it doesn't sound like anyone who actually knows Obama likes him even a little either.
Tony, I went to university. Biggest dipshits were liberals. They were very close in line with these mustard seeds.
Because Tony, your schtick is so tiresome. Every time you come here and bitch about how people are calling out Obama for being a fascist shithead you post something along the lines of -"B-B-B-B-BUT ROMNEY!!!!"
No one fucking cares here. This isn't Redstate.
All you have is a tiresome grab bag of strawmen that you continually throw around in hopes that you will make a relevant point.
And you never, ever, never ever do.
BUT OH THAT LINE ABOUT JOHNSON WAS PURE GOLD!!! DEAD STARVING PEOPLE IN THE STREET FROM THE FATTY FAT CAT LIBERTARIANS!!! HO HO HO!!! YOU ARE A FUNNY GUY YOU SURE ARE TONY!!
I apologize if I can't help but see the election through the lens of reality, that reality being there are only two candidates in contention.
I guess, as ProL reminds me, I shouldn't be criticizing you for supporting Obama, if your support for Johnson, which is the same thing, is genuine.

"I apologize if I can't help but see the election through the lens of reality,.."
Shithead, you and reality aren't even in the same universe.
Ah, yes. "reality". The sharpest stick in the statist toolbox. Effective for momentarily deflecting attacks on user's line of reasoning.

Okay, I LOL'D at this...
Well played Sir.
This isn't a Reason video. But an unflattering video of Romney supporters would not be hard to make either. You'd get lots of ranting about "sekret Muzlim Obama" and how he secretly wants to destroy the United States.
On the other hand your views of Johnson's domestic policy agenda are the typical unmitigated garbage.
Have you heard any Romney supporters talk about Obama being a secret Muslim?
Not even D'Souza goes in for that stuff today.
I've seen this mentioned on several facebook threads, yes. A lot of it from Objectivist Romney supporters who probably just came a little unhinged after 9/11 and never sorted things out. But it's definitely out there, and 99% of what D'Souza says is nearly as bad.
Graphite,
Ah, OK, I didn't know Objectivists were into that stuff. Learn something new every day.
Good Objectivists aren't. Please report these Facebook links to the Ayn Rand Institute Rationality Enforcement Division immediately.
Thinking BO is a secret Muslim is better than thinking it's A-OK to incinerate children so as to spread freedom. And I know at least one Objectivist who believes the latter.
So that I guess that time you argued in favor of nuking Hiroshima was all just BS?
We weren't trying to spread freedom then.
True.
Re spreading freedom: like you said Tulpa, it's never initiation of force to kill a slaver. Likewise, the blame for those who die in the slaver killing lies with the slaver.
A freedom fighter goes to Syria and kills a civilian in an intense firefight. There is no moral difference if you replace 'freedom righter' with 'Predator Drone'.
To be perfectly clear, no moral difference in so far as blame regarding the dead civilian. The morality is different regarding the American taxpayer.
Good Objectivists aren't. Please report these Facebook links to the Ayn Rand Institute Rationality Enforcement Division immediately.
ARI and Peikoff are increasingly separate entities these days, but Peikoff is practically leading the charge on the Objectivist derangement front, what with his talk of Obama being a "nihilist" and an "unprecedented" thread to America -- as if Obama is somehow worse than Woodrow Wilson (who actually jailed war dissenters) or FDR (who put Asian Americans in camps and was much more left wing than Obama on domestic policies).
ARI and Peikoff are increasingly separate entities these days
THANK GOD. I suspected as much. He will be the first we...re-educate.
In related news:
BUT DON'T YOU DARE CALL THEM SAVAGES!
Pakistan is a serious fuckhole I hope India glasses those savages.
I was talking to one of my apolitical friends and happened to mention something about secret Muslim conspiracy theories.
He goes "What? Obama's not Muslim?"
No joke. Didn't even say it like it was a bad thing. Even thought he was sworn into office with his hand on the Quran.
To be fair, Obama's father and step-father were Muslims and he attended Muslim schools in Indonesia.
When terrorists killed our Ambassador, he told the UN that people shouldn't slander Islam.
Thinking he's a Muslim, secret or not, isn't crazy.
Come on. He's a practical atheist just like 99% of the federal government.
Lots of non-Muslims are opposed to religious hate speech, he never knew his dad, and there's no evidence he ever practiced Islam in Indonesia. It is crazy to think he's Muslim.
This is at least reasonably possible. The recently "discovered" video of Obama introducing Rev. Wright as "the man who introduced me to Jesus Christ" definitely suggests that prior to his move to Chicago he was something other than "Christian".
It could be that he used to be an atheist (or a secret Muslim or whatever) and had a "road to Damascus" moment with Wright. Or it could be that his critics are correct and he only trots out religion to further his ambitions, harboring no true religious beliefs. That's what's fun about conspiracy theories... you can pull at threads all day long.
The recently "discovered" video of Obama introducing Rev. Wright as "the man who introduced me to Jesus Christ" definitely suggests that prior to his move to Chicago he was something other than "Christian".
Nah, I can see a born-again type saying that.
I'm not arguing that he is - just that it's real easy to understand how people get that impression.
I believe he worships the state and have never seen anything that would disprove that theory.
The last thing Muslims are is secretive about it. It's a very public religion, just about everything in it is performed in public.
No Muslim is going to suggest a "Beer Summit" or be seen eating a BLT. Never mind publicly advocate for abortion.
Or get pushed around by his wife
The last thing Muslims are is secretive about it.
As I understand it, the Koran specifically authorizes them to lie about it when necessary to advance the faith.
Personally, I think he's one cynical mofo of an atheist. I also think he is ideologically committed to the idea that Islam is just another religion, and radical Islamists are really no different than community organizers who can be bought off and co-opted.
I have no idea why you're confusing Obama with Keith Ellison.
Tulpa and hotsy totsy, I think you are giving the average American too much credit wrt his knowledge of Islam.
Gary Johnson would kill more Americans than either real candidate if he got his way on domestic policy.
Ugh..
He's probably more sincere in his lying, dishonest tilts toward pragmatism than the few times Republicans engage in it, I'll give him that.
Tony bottom line is if a Republican had Obama's track record you'd be the first to blast them.
But seeing you're a brain-dead liberal, you fit the perfect characterization of a hypocritical Obamatard who accept it because, as the dude in the video said, he must have a "big picture" reason.
ALl of you. Clowns.
Only Nixon could go to China, and only Obama could hand sweetheart bailout deals to banks, amp the drone war up to 11, and turn healthcare "reform" into a giant insurance company subsidy.
If Republicans were capable of Obama's track record I would never have formed my political worldview as it is. I long for a genuine choice. It's hardly Obama's or Democrats' fault that there isn't one.
Republicans are capable of Obama's track record. Were you asleep from 2001-2009?
The Dems owned it after 2006.
Tony bottom line is if a Republican had Obama's track record you'd be the first to blast them.
If a Democrat had Ronmey's exact same positions(many Dem's do), he'd praise him!
So T o n y, tell us a little about yourself. Where do you live, how old are you, where did you go to school, what do you do for a living, any family, significant other?
You are the only person here who never volunteers anything about himself (or I guess T o n y could be a female name). And you always know to say exactly the right thing to enrage libertarians. HHHMMMMM? Could it be...
THAT YOU ARE A FUCKING SOCK PUPPET!
Gary Johnson would kill more ... oh you know what forget it I'm not even going start this shit today
You know who else would kill more...
Ghengis Khan?
Boooooosh!
Pol Pot?
Bane?
"Raid" Bug Spray?
I'm supporting the candidate who supported gay marriage from the beginning, who you supporting, Tony?
The one who supports gay marriage and can actually win an election.
The one who [lies about supporting] gay marriage and can actually win an election.
Gotcha.
So what is he going to do about it?
Don't you supposedly live in Oklahoma? Voting for Obama in Oklahoma is as pointless as voting for Johnson in Oklahoma. Neither of them is going to win Okla fucking homa.
What kind of idiot votes over the term 'marriage'?
Civil unions grant legal equality.
Gay marriage is about using the federal govt as a social acceptance vehicle.
A true libertarian would not support gay marriage, as they don't believe in using the govt as minority groups propaganda arm. Not an enumerated purpose.
Since Johnson's not on the ballot in OK, he's definitely not winning that state.
-John Lovitz voice
OAK-la-HO-ma!!!!
/John Lovitz voice
Only difference is that you can actually vote for Obama in OK....Johnson was run off the ballot here
Come on, you think if there were a poll of Romney supporters who were asked "Romney wants the top 1% to pay a larger share of taxes", or "Romney wants to forgive all student loans after 20 years", or even "Romney is against trade barriers with China.", that none of them would say, "Really?"
Wait, there are Romney supporters?
I figured they were all pretty much Not Obama supporters.
Present!
Notice the argument is never that the rest of the country would have to pick up the slack for the assumed lack of taxpayer money being spent by the federal government. It's always that they'll starve because progressives would rather let people starve than willingly spend their money on things they pretend to care about.
It's always that they'll starve because progressives would rather let people starve than willingly spend their money on things they pretend to care about.
This. Progressives either prove that they don't give a shit, or that our government does not reflect the will of the people.
Progressive government is a lazy fucking way of implementing progressive ideas.
I'd vote for Clint Eastwood's empty chair if it were between Obama and the chair. The chair hasn't proven to be incompetent and unfit for office, you see.
In any event, I have voted already, and the die is cast. . .for Gary Johnson.
If you live in a state that matters, Obama thanks you for your support I'm sure.
Johnson may actually swing Colordo to Team Mittens, which is cosmic justice for his betrayl on the drug policy.
I'll have to check some polling, but I could see that. Though it would be more like Pyrrhic victory. Or do you think Bishop Romney will be all hippie-dippy on weed policy?
I dunno, but maybe the Team Blue dipshits in Congress will learn their lesson and take marijuana decriminalization seriously.
Heck, maybe even Colorado and other Western state Republicans will view pot as a winning issue and take note. Either way Obama losing a key state because of his marijuana policy would be good.
I think I agree with that.
Colorado's one of the swingiest states though. Nobody's voting for Gary Johnson. Well, 4% according to recent polling, but it doesn't change the Romney-Obama dynamic at all.
I actually could see a case where greater respect for federalism might lead Romney to take a less aggressive drug war tack in states that legalize medical or recreational marijuana. His governing record in Massachusetts doesn't seem to indicate any burning religious desire to impose socially conservative values in places that don't want them.
Besides, according to the progressives I've seen comment on the issue, Obama is only doing the whole drug crackdown thing for votes. Since Romney knows he's probably got most drug warriors' votes in the bag already, maybe that very venal rationale will be less appealing to him.
Unlike Obama, Romney has an easy out available to him - federalism. I really have no idea if he will use it, though I doubt the drug war is anywhere near the top on his list of priorities.
Obama can just as easily appeal to federalism. He's not required to check a bunch of ideological boxes based on 19th century resentments. If he does address drug liberalization it will likely be via that means.
But it could only possibly happen with Obama and a comfortably Democratic Congress.
You mean like when he passed Obamacare?
And when they repealed the Bush tax cuts, closed Gitmo, enacted a carbon tax, ended all the wars, and balanced the budget.
That pure Democrat government was a think to behold.
It might be like the anti-war crowd, who got really quiet when Obama was elected because he was Team Blue. Maybe people who supposedly care about the issue will start making noise again.
"Yeah, man, do you see how Romney is arresting people for weed? What's next, busting people for coffee? Under Obama you didn't have to worry about that sort of thing. At least not so far as I can remember."
Yeah, a memory joke, the best I could think of off hand.
No way Obama's winning Florida--that ship has sailed.
So, which libertarian commenter are you, anyway? Because no leftist would ever criticize a libertarian for helping his side. Not ever.
I don't think Floridians ever have cause to call their state a lock. You were the scene of the crime that made 3rd party voting obviously counterproductive, to Naderites eternal shame (once they stop being so vomitously narcissistic.)
So, which libertarian commenter are you, anyway?
I thought Tony was Nick Gillespie?
The original Tony that is. He is very spoofable
How is voting for Gary Johnson supporting Obama? Is Mitt Romney entitled to Pro Lib's vote?
He doesn't understand math.
Because Obama doesn't need to get a certain number of votes, he just needs to get more than Romney. So subtracting one potential vote from Romney's total objectively supports Obama.
Because Obama Romney doesn't need to get a certain number of votes, he just needs to get more than Romney Obama. So subtracting one potential vote from Romney's Obama's total objectively supports Obama Romney.
derp
Yes, but only half as much as if you actually vote for Romney.
Vote for Obama: 0 points
Vote for neither: 1 point
Vote for Romney: 2 points
Why in the name of Christ would I ever consider voting for Romney?
Because libertarians are Romney's natural allies.
Good one!
Tulpa please tell me these last few posts have been tongue in cheek? I mean, if you're going to vote for Romney, fine go ahead. State your case. But seriously, that logic is just painfully stupid
It's not stupid, it's inescapable.
Acutally it's beyond stupid.
If I like Candidate C does not take away a vote from either of the other candidates because I never supported them.
The fact that you scrub your shower with Clorox doesn't mean you want Clorox in your shower, it just means you don't want mold or mildew.
But if you scrub your shower with shit then it makes a little less sense. Is Tulpa's brain even functional or is just mush at this point?
He's seriously beyond parody at this point
It assumes Romney is your 2nd choice. If you're like me, he isn't. 2nd choice is stay home. 3rd and 4th choices are Virgil Goode and Jill Stein, although I'm not sure in which order.
1st Choice: Ron Paul (only write-in in Ohio)
2nd Choice: Gary Johnson (Will be on ballot in Ohio)
3rd Choice: John Huntsman (for the sake of a 3rd choice, but only write-in in Ohio)
Romney is nowhere on this list for those that value freedom above all else.
Look at how the R establishment treats Libertarians, look at how much closer Romney's politics are to Santorum/Newt than they are to Ron Paul or Gary Johnson.
Mitt Sucks, people that read this site do not want him president. Period.
I won't vote for someone I don't like just to stave off someone else.
I did that w/ McCain 4 years ago and still hate myself for it.
I'd bet money that chair wasn't born in America.
A fair point. Has anyone verified this?
Yes. Your stool is too firm.
Re: Tony,
"Your candidate's supporters are even more clueless that my candidate's supporters! Nya, nya, nya!"
Man, I still remember that I used to pull the ponytails of girls during recess, when I was in 3rd grade. Brought back some memories....
No argument here. What's interesting is that you seem to expect an argument, but there's none - Romney is an East Coast liberal, while Obama is a Chicago liberal. The difference is in the color of their ties.
And the presence of ideological neocon warmongers pulling the strings.
Oh, I'm sure Romney will find someone to fill the void left by Samantha Power.
Re: Tony,
No, they're both pretty strung up, Tony.
"Ah. Who's being naive, Kate?"
ideological neocon warmongers
"I have a name, you know. It's Ms. Jarrett."
ideological neocon warmongers pulling the strings.
Hilary?
yet it's almost certain he'll be as bad or worse on these issues.
Speculation and denial: like mixing narcotics and alcohol for your mind, eh Tony w/spaces?
Well, there you have it.
"Well, that stuff makes me feel bad, but you, know, the healthcare law so...I still support Obama"
So, progressives don't give a shit about civil liberties. Socialized health care trumps all.
Well who cares about shit like 'due process' when FREE DOCTORS! I WILL LIVE FOREVER!
I always wondered why people were clamoring to get into prison....all that free health care!
I and here I am working like a sucker!
Now that birth control's free she doesn't have to worry about getting fucked.
I sincerely hope such people receive the sort of "free" doctors and healthcare they so richly deserve. Despicable slavers.
Wow.
It was nice that really only one denied that Obama did those things.
The looks on their faces....they really just did not know.
Yeah it's crazy. I'm Canadian and know the issues better than these, these...voters.
You don't know more about "the issues" because these are not "the issues".
The issues in this campaign are:
1. Romnesia.
2. I have a plan.
3. Bill Clinton sez he was a good president and Obama will do what he did.
On the other side we have:
1. If you fail at your job, you get fired.
2. I have a plan.
End of issues. At least that's what I see on the TV.
You forgot about the binders full of women. And Big Bird.
"t was nice that really only one denied that Obama did those things."
Give about a day to think about it and a Left Wing echochamber or two and I'll bet you anything those people eventually concluded everything they were told was Fox news/Koch Bros. brainchip propaganda designed to smear The One.
I already knew that his supporters are a combination of idiots, fools, mendacious partisan scum, and people who don't actually give a shit about civil liberties, thanks. But I suppose it never hurts to document it.
Don't worry, when Romney gets elected the phony, bullshit "antiwar" movement will suddenly reappear in spades on January 20 as if by magic.
The premise being that Bush's warmongering is equal to Obama's. And because a half-assed effort is worse than none at all.
Yes, we understand Tony, you are a blue team hack and cannot bring yourself to admit that you are wrong. Do you need a hug, Tony?
Call me whatever name you wish, my TEAM support is perfectly rational, without rational alternatives.
This obsession with favoring only politicians who can't possibly win, or none at all, yet with a willingness to bitch and whine about everything government does despite refusing proudly to do anything in your power about it, is not a sign of superior morals or intelligence.
Actually, I'd file voting for a candidate I disagree with despite having alternative candidates with whom I agree substantially under "refusing to do anything about it." I'd consider continuing to support a failing two party system just because it's the way we've been doing things for a long time to ACTUALLY be "not doing anything."
I don't support the two-party system, and it is failing, but you can't do anything about it by voting within a system that makes it impossible to escape. It has to be done by election reform. Now draw out a map of a plausible voting-based pathway to that end.
but you can't do anything about it by voting within a system that makes it impossible to escape.
The fuck I can't S o c k p u p p e t! I can vote for Sugar Covered Barry O in the California presidential election and vote against every fucking revenue measure!
Tony, don't you live in Oklahoma? You do realize that the probability of its electoral votes going to Romney is 100%?
Yes. Your vote only matters if you live in Ohio, Virginia, and a few other states. That's true.
No, your vote counts the same everywhere. It's always just one vote (except in Chicago). It's just that for some reason, some people change their mind because their vote has a 0.00000000000000000000000000000000000000001% chance of deciding an election versus 0%
That's something. Every vote counts.
I understand Cyto. And I did vote in this election. But I didn't do it because I thought I could actually alter the results. My point is that if you're going to vote, vote for who you think is the best candidate
Strategic voting is totally legitimate if the circumstances are right. That happens a lot in Canada actually.
Strategic voting in Canada leads to Conservative Minorities or Majorities. Nobody is happy. Happier than an NDP win, but not as happy in general.
If just a few thousand votes across the right riding had been different, we could've prevented PET.
Are there any good parties in Canada? And if there are other options, how does strategic voting make sense from an individual perspective? Your odds of swinging the election are still the same. Zero
it's more like one in ten million chance in a swing state, which would be a 0.0000001% chance.
you're off by a whole crapload of orders of magnitude.
Seriously protefeed? Really? Miss the point much?
And in reality, the number is 0 as well. In any election that close, there would be slight disparities in recounts, incorrectly marked ballots, etc. and the courts would decide who won.
It isn't rational in any way, unless you are a totalitarian statist fuck head, which I am inclined to believe most of the time. In other words, you don't give a shit about civil liberties at all, you just need to cheer for your team.
Team red hacks are no better mind you. Just admit you are a team hack. Admission is the first step towards recovery, Tony. We know you want to be a Libertarian or you wouldn't hang out here all of the time. Just admit it, you will feel better. What your team hack friends think is not that important.
And I'm totally over that 'can't win' shit, it's just more team hackery.
Fine, would you like to wager $10,000 that a Democrat or Republican won't win the next presidential election? How about $10?
In an party duopoly environment the rational course of action is to support the party that leans in the direction you support, or to oppose the one that doesn't. Hackery requires that I am compensated for my support. I'm not. I'm making the mind-bludgeoningly obvious rational decision.
Tony, would you like to make that wager on whether Mitt Romney will win Oklahoma (with me saying yes, you no)? Of course you won't, cause Romney's going to win. So why vote for Obama?
No I wouldn't, as that outcome is equally as obvious as the national outcome being either a Democrat or Republican.
So then why bother voting for Obama?
Fine, would you like to wager $10,000 that a Democrat or Republican won't win the next presidential election? How about $10?
WTF? You are part of the problem, dumbass. Did I say I thought that a Libertarian would win the next election, you know, the one in 5 days? I know they won't, thanks to team hacks like you.
But that does not compromise my vote at all. I am voting for what I think is right, not for who I think will win.
You should give up political debate for a hobby and take up sports, since team hackery is more appropriate in that arena.
He hangs out here all the time because he's the sock puppet of one of the libertarian commenters.
joe de Lowell was real and not a libertarian and hung out here all the time too.
Who's refusing to do anything about it? I vote for politicians and donate money to organizations who share my principles. I can't be held responsible for how the rest of the country votes.
Just stop pretending you have any principles beyond "ZOMG TEH FREE BIRTH CONTROLS!!1".
Actually my position is mandatory birth control.
Bush's radically incompetent and deceitful foreign policy is almost singularly formative of my political principles. Obama's not been an angel of peace, and plenty of liberals criticize him for it, but I don't ever expect perfection from politicians. Why do you?
And there we have it. The mask finally slipped. You are truly evil.
Not indefinitely detaining or assassinating American citizens = perfection? Welp, that's all we need to know about you.
In other words, Bush was actually perfect, by your own standard.
Actually most leftist goals would be well-served and made more possible by dramatic reductions in population (climate change, environment, universal health care, etc). But you would need to kill off at least three elderly Medicare/Social Security folks for every prevented pregnancy to make the economic math work.
Re: Tony,
We're already doing everything in our power about it.
Oh? And is participating in a rigged game evidence of superior morals and intelligence?
No, the premise is that you and your scummy ilk are totally full of shit and have no credibility left.
Because we don't buy the blatantly obvious Bush rehab propaganda tactic of fallaciously equating Obama's foreign policy with Bush's unprecedentedly incompetent one?
I think we can state without any doubt that comparing Bush's foreign policy to Obama's isn't meant to do any favors for the former.
Best as I can tell, Obama's foreign policy seems to be "Go ahead and kiill our ambassadors, I don't really give a fuck, and they probably have it coming anyway."
Man FOX News has you guys tightly leashed. Did you even notice the hurricane? Genuinely curious. What with all the breaking news on fast and furious to get through even before you can get to blaming Obama for terrorist attacks (as I'm sure you did for Bush).
Yes, I saw the hurricane. If this were a just world, Ambassador Stevens and the guys who disobeyed orders to try to save his life would still be alive, and Sandy would have toppled a large tree onto your car with you in it.
Curious Tony. Where is he "competent" As a former broker and now business owner, I'm confident in concluding he's clueless on this.
Foreign policy? Surely you jest. I don't see how he's anywhere near better than Bush. That kill list is beyond fucking crazy. Drone strikes etc.
At least Bush has the Millenium Fund going for him. In Africe ironically enough.
But hey, to you that's nothing.
Domestic issues? I agree with Hazel. That he passed Obamacare it gave him all sorts of boardwalk tokens so as to get an uncritical pass for all the other bullshit he spews.
Face palm with two hands and repeat.
Kill lists and drone strikes are orders of magnitude better than massive phony wars based on lies and officially sanctioned torture chambers. Not perfect, but equated only, and only possibly, for the purpose of absolving Bush for his unprecedented incompetence and damage to the country.
Most businesspeople I know are idiots, truly. Knowing how to make oneself a profit has absolutely nothing to do with being a competent governor.
Bush gets credit for some of his big government overseas spending programs, I do grant him that.
Re: Tony,
Better in what sense? That they're less evil? How do you know the kill lists are not themselves based on lies? Did you know that the Yemeni president is the one that informs US intelligence on potential targets? Who do you think he chooses?
Nobody is absolving him. The guys and I are indicting the current one because he's still there.
Most business people *I* know are not aware in the slightest of your businesspeople. That should tell you something.
Kill lists and drone strikes are orders of magnitude better than massive phony wars based on lies and officially sanctioned torture chambers.
Yeah, who needs that silly due process and habeas corpus nonsense? These barbarians must be taught their place. And the torture is still going on, the CIA just sits outside the door while the Jordanians do the work.
T o n y| 11.1.12 @ 7:32PM |#
"Kill lists and drone strikes are orders of magnitude better than massive phony wars based on lies and officially sanctioned torture chambers."
Yes, shithead, and Obama's got 'eem all covered.
Asshole...
Oh, fuck this was lame.
Sorry I asked.
Phony "wars?" I thought Afghanistan was legit. Iraq was the controversial one. You know, the one many Democrats voted for? And how in the fucking world can he justify Libya without Congressional approval?
Please. Tony, just stop. You're worse than Eleonore Clift.
How do you kill or banish sock puppets?
Most lecturers with a sketchy law record I know are idiots, truly. Knowing how to be a community organizer has absolutely nothing to do with being a competent President.
It's a fucking sock. Ignore it and it will stay in its drawer.
They don't listen, Restoras.
I think Suderman and his sock are doing a bang-up job displaying the panic TEAM BLUE is experiencing. If Obama loses I wonder if he'll do as good at job manufactuing the faux-rage?
Suderman?
Sue der mann und fuck der wimmen.
Teh sock is prickly tonight. Obviously was dragged through a patch of burrs before getting tossed in the wash. The injustice of losing its mate is causing severe cognitive dissonance and batshittery.
Back in your drawer.
Re: Tony,
Obama's warmongering is even worse - he orders the murder of foreigners without even bothering to ask for some sort of nod or wink from Congress.
Just sends in the drones.
So a Congressional wink, made under the duress of patriotic hysteria and premised on a lie, absolves the many thousands of dead civilians and makes Bush's objectively incompetent and deceitful execution of foreign policy better than Obama's? Because Obama aggressively executes foreign policy more judiciously he is worse.
Re: Tony,
No, it means that at least one had a modicum of respect for the representatives of Da People than the other, not that either of them was justified. War is never justified.
Besides, it is not like Obama sent in the drones in an honest and open way, and he used one to murder an American Citizen and his 16 year old CHILD. There's something sociopathic about a person that does that.
You must have your head way up your ass. There's nothing judicious about killing people with robots. You're delusional, Tony.
Tony, Obama followed Bush's timeline for withdrawal in Iraq and expanded Afghanistan? In what sense has he been an improvement on anything Bush would have done?
At least Bush asked for permission re Iraq Obama not so much on Libya.
The premise being that Bush's warmongering is equal to Obama's.
Warmongering is warmongering, Tony w/spaces. Not even Bubba Clinton has granted Obama the power to dispense the sacrament of "humanitarian war" (see Kosovo).
I've been wondering how close to a 180? turn the media and people like the formerly against war will make when Romney is in office. The way this seems to work is that they treat everything the Republican does as somehow different. Maybe Republicans lack magic pixie dust?
Mike if that were true there might be hope for the USA.
It's far more likely they will be ashamed and fail to keep Romney in check 🙁
When the left feels its lost its moral authority we are in the express lane to totalitarianism; and i HATE liberalism.
HOW DARE HE CALL OBAMA EVIL.
Worlds were rocked, and then each of those people will happily vote Obama.
TEAM UBER ALLES
You know just once I'd like to see one of these "man on the street" videos where someone's crotch just violently explodes for no reason right in mid-sentence.
Like just blows up splattering blood everywhere, as if there was a tiny explosive planted in the penis root.
The look of utter shock and uncomprehending horror would be kind of funny.
Plate o' shrimp.
The more you drive, the less intelligent you are.
True story. I went to install cable at his house and he answered the door in a dress.
I don't know why I march in lockstep with ProL, JJ. I like the way you think a lot more. Maybe I should march in lockstep with you.
"Marching in lockstep" in my home means "getting our penises stuck together in a Chinese finger-trap" (which my Chinese wife insists on calling a "dirty fucking Jap finger-trap").
So I hope that's what you meant, b/c that's a typical Thanksgiving at the Jacob household, whilst I complain about the grevious lack of exploding crotches in todays media.
also, fried chicken
I'm there. I will show up when I feel like it and leave when I feel like it. But there had also better be chicken fried steak with sausage gravy.
First off, you won't leave when you like, because your cock will be stuck in one of those inscrutable finger-traps.
Secondly, this is Texas. Fucking of course there's going to be chicken fried steak.
This all sounds good to me. I just have to go rummage through my Rohypnol collection first.
That's funny, because I was just thinking I was going to have to drug myself to go to your blue-state Seattle Thanksgiving, where I assume you serve giant wads of organic fair-trade tofu vaguely shaped like a turkey while you prattle on wondering how your boy Obama lost the election because certainly nobody you know voted for that bloodthirsty objectivist Romney.
Then again, that's assuming we even have a Thanksgiving after Romney starts wars with Iran and China and personally goes around evicting the elderly from hospitals.
I'm going to be in CT for Thanksgiving, JJ, drinking martinis and forcing the help to play tennis with me while I try to get my grandparents to buy me a bigger boat.
You can go to Seattle if you want, though.
Ah, give Linda McMahon my regards.
Also, tell her I just got back from the clinic, and she might want to get herself checked out.
Ah, give Linda McMahon my regards.
Also, tell her I just got back from the clinic, and she might want to get herself checked out.
Do you enjoy crossing swords with John Cena, or is that what Linda likes to see?
This "woman on the street" interview comes close. Not really safe for work.
That made my entire day! Thx PSF
From now on, every time you think of Canada, you'll think of that clip.
That little troll looks and sounds like the mother of a former friend and creative partner of mine. She wanted me to agree with her that guns are bad so so very much but I wouldn't do it. That's all she wanted. Give her a little inch on sensible gun laws and we would be ever so copacetic. Such a horrible person was I that I would not even recognize the legitimacy of the state in implementing sensible, common sense gun laws. As a result, sabotaged me every chance she got.
Stay in the field, you get fed. Wonder out into the woods and you starve.
The best was the 2 blonde women. Funny as hell. They were just shell shocked and couldn't really talk their way out of it.
Uh well, ummm, sure he kills Americans without due process, but he will give us free birth control!
Gary Johnson should have done videos like that and made them into campaign adds.
At least the Iron Man impersonator has more common sense than the blondes and seemed devastated at finding out the truth.
Blondes didn't give a shit. Their minds were made up long ago.
Well, free birth control! And no one has to pay for it! Like, wow, it's like so cool! Is there anything else?
The dude with the heavy accent seemed like he might be the only one who doesn't just shrug this off 10 minutes later.
Mention the DREAM Act, and he'll be back to unquestioningly support Obama in no time.
The female immigrant from a country with a dictatorship said she needed a moment to think about it, then said something about them being equally evil, I thought.
She needed a moment because in a flash of clarity she was about to cry. Then she did a little jig in her head and started to rationalize.
Y'all aren't giving her enough credit. She seemed quite defeated at the end.
Actually, someone made up their minds for them. Clearly not capable of independent rational thought. Just whatever the Team tells me to do...
Their minds were made up long ago.
What are these "minds" you speak of? You saw the interview right?
Having a mind doesn't necessarily mean they're not gullible.
Just throwing that out there.
Brain and brain, what is brain?!
"Well, I'm a Liberal and can name a million other reason why I'm supporting Obama"
Classic TEAM think. Or rather, response, since there isn't any actual thinking going on.
They vote Obama because it makes them feel good? And then they complain that libertarians are selfish pricks.
I married well. As I was playing the video, my wife (sitting across the table) exclaimed, "Obama does all that shit!"
Working as a legislative intern cured her of any hope for politicians.
This is not about whose party will abuse power the most when in office. What's happening here reminds me of the battles going on in the tech industry. Companies like Sun and Netscape were able to create a public perception that Microsoft is evil. This allowed Sun and Netscape to commit the same sins as Microsoft while avoiding any public attention about it. On occasion, when their actions did receive any attention, tech reporters and members of the tech community were quick to grasp any explanation that these were benign acts.
And this is the reason why I've become thoroughly disgusted with the Democratic Party even though I've been registered as a Democrat for my entire voting life. The only reason why I can see that it paints all other parties as evil or heartless is so that it can get away with its own transgressions.
Sometimes in life, you become what you fight against.
See Apple and Google, in keeping with the theme.
Iron Man was the only one who had a shred of integrity.
No the blond girl with glasses did not say a word after the "Obama is a scumbag" reveal...it was her buddy that talked after.
The look on her face was like she was staring into the abyss.
She was trying to remember if she likes vanilla or chocolate.
FTW!
The immigrant woman said we're choosing between equal amounts of evil, and ended on a sort of hopeless note. She seemed to be most receptive to believing the guy was speaking the truth.
It's really disturbing watching that video.
It's almost as bad as seeing Johnson supporters confronted with the futility of their own votes.
Just kidding! Sheesh.
No, but, seriously, we won't get rid of Obama by voting for Johnson.
LOL
Oh Ken.
Yeah we will, if everyone voted for Johnson. We'd get rid of Obama.
And if potato were spelled with an E, Dan Quayle would be considered a genius.
Hey, Murphy Brown made it through four seasons on Quayle jokes alone. Now, if they acknowledged that everyone in DC was no less unimpressive as Quayle, they may have had something special.
Your one vote isn't more important in either scenario.
I'm looking forward to that day, too.
Some ppl have a loftier goal.
They want to get rid of the 2 parties.
They dont want to simply get rid of the left version of it. The right version is not a solution.
The best thing for America would be for Obama to win so that more ppl realized the 2 party system is broken.
Sadly the powers that be are ditching Obama. Don't want ppl to be able to empirically analyze his policies for an extended period 🙁
While we're workin' on getting rid of those two parties, let's make sure we don't lose our sense of humor in the process.
Oh, but there is such a thing as a lesser of two evils. And bailing out the UAW with money from my paycheck was especially evil.
Don't think I'll ever be able to forget about Barack Obama doing that to me, and when I get a chance to really stick it to the bastard that stuck it to me like that? it's hard to pass up the chance to do what he doesn't want me to do the most.
And I don't think Obama's losing any sleep over the fear that we'll vote for Johnson. If all us libertarians vote for Johnson, I don't think that'll bother Barack Obama one bit.
Partisan hypocrisy swings both ways. The liberals I've encountered genuinely feel that low-information voters do not apply to their ideology. They box themselves into their own little world just as much as the conservatives do.
Holy shit. Reporters find State Department documents in the trashed consulate six weeks after the fire fight?
http://www.foreignpolicy.com/a.....?page=full
Is there anyone taking this less seriously than our government?
No, no reason to bother to do a thorough housekeeping ASAP. Just blame it on the producer of a video clip that agitated some primitive fuckheads.
Thed future does not belong to those who would use the first amendment.
These letters were found a month and a half after the attack, despite a visit to the compound by FBI investigators.
The FBI declined to comment, citing the ongoing investigation.
I'll just leave this here.
Is there anyone taking this less seriously than our government?
But don't worry, they'll take better care of your personal medical information.
Conan's Accurate & Scientific Poll Roundup
Swarthy Evil Lamanite: -1000% FTW! That took a few rare and special synapses to achieve. Points awarded.
WOMEN, GAYS, & MINORITIES POLL:
Romney: BWAH-HA-HA
Obama: No Other Choice
Points taken back. That's fucking retarded. Anyone voting for Obama based on similar shades of skin color or because he promised to make other people pay for their birth control needs a boot knee deep up their ass. Fuck you, fuck you, fucking you.
Free Healthcare isn't free
"The study also says it found one in five Canadians has no supplemental health insurance."
Uh, what?
Since Canada provides total, "free" medical care to everybody for everything always, why would anyone need "supplemental ... insurance"?
What is not covered
My parents made sure I had supplemental Blue Cross from the day I was diagnosed with diabetes as a child until the day I crossed the US border for good. I heard many times from my mom (a retired nurse) that "OHIP doesn't cover jack shit"
I liked the know-it-all lesbians who looked at each other desperately when Obama was exposed. It didn't change their determination to vote for him at all, just left the taste of shit in their mouths.
Hmm. They didn't ping my gaydar.
Looked like a couple to me. The "Bitch" shirt on the one didn't help either.
I thought they looked like biological siblings. On the other hand, lesbian couples have a tendency to resemble one another after a period of time. Re: shirt - plenty of big city women would wear a shirt like that, gay or not.
The one on the right was kind of a know-it-all but the other one had one of those deliberately stupid laughs, like "don't expect too much from me."
Wow thats like totally insaen dude. Serously.

That makes a lot of sense dude.

VOTE LIKE YOUR LADYPARTS DEPEND ON IT
Obama 2012
Vote Like Your Man Parts Wont Notice
Romney 2012
Vote like you have Tulpa's empty head.
Why are you telling me? I'm not voting Romney. I make only this difference in the two duoarchy candidates, with Romney you have a tough row to hoe to defend that choice, with Obama, that soil is already thoroughly salted. No excuse can be made. Even Obama could only come up with the absurd claim that the other guy is more evil. You've got a kill list, that makes you as evil as any man who ever ruled over another.
Anyone else notice the appropriate "Evita" sign in the background? Another statist with a rather poor liberal disguise.
Sounds like a pretty crazy plan to me dude. Wow.
