Milton Friedman would have turned 100 today.

Last year, Jim Epstein and I put together this video that only begins to hint at his massive contributions not just to libertarian thought and policy but to a broader intellectual culture. As I note in the video, "Milton Friedman gave us something much better than revealed truth: He showed us the process by which we might continue to indefinitely learn about our world and the human condition."

People who are struggling with the tiny font size in chrome:

Right click on a comment, select inspect element, and set the font-size in reset-2.css to something between 101% and 105% according to taste.

You have to do it over and over again, but at least each page can be made legible.

I will never fully understand why such people are so reviled. Perhaps, like our trolls here, their detractors have none of those qualities and hate is the manifestation of their envy.

There is not going to be any Friedman century Gillespie. We will always be a despised minority. We belong to a race, the vast majority of whom, consciously and willfully put chains on themselves so that their neighbors must wear them as well.

He was not a Keynesian, he just admired Keynes. As did Hayek. Indeed, Keynes was a brilliant man. His style of economic aggregation was a useful tool in analyis. Key parts of it were wrong of course, but overall it was a useful abstraction.

The crime we call Keynesianism was not the result of Keynes, but of state sycophants who latched on to his “scientific” theory as an excuse for state spending sprees. His name is often invoked, but his actual prescriptions rarely are.

Overrated. This is the man who also helped, along with Beardsley Ruml, to give us the mother of all statist instruments — income tax withholding.

Ludwig von Mises, Murray Rothbard, Walter Block, Robert Higgs are much more insightful and more powerful proponents of freedom.

Rothbard eviscerates Friedman in the monograph below.
