Your Government: Committed to Keeping the Drug Market As Dangerous As Possible
Yesterday the Justice Department unsealed an indictment that charges eight men from three countries with running "a sophisticated online drug marketplace that sold everything from marijuana to mescaline to some 3,000 people around the world," A.P. reports:
"The Farmer's Market"…allowed suppliers of drugs—including LSD, Ecstasy and ketamine—to anonymously sell their wares online. They hooked up with buyers in 34 countries and accepted various forms of payment, including cash, Western Union and PayPal transactions, the indictment claims….
The market "provided a controlled substances storefront, order forms, online forums, customer service, and payment methods for the different sources of supply" and charged the suppliers a commission based upon the value of the order, according to a statement from the U.S. attorney's office in Los Angeles.
"For customers, the operators screened all sources of supply and guaranteed delivery of the illegal drugs," the statement said….
The marketplace allegedly used the Tor network, which spreads website and email communications through a volunteer network of servers around the world in order to mask Internet address information.
Sounds pretty cool, huh? André Birotte Jr., the U.S. attorney in Los Angeles (where some of the network's customers, including an undercover DEA agent, were located), does not think so. Explaining why he is threatening Marc Willems, the Dutch citizen who allegedly ran this innovative business, and his colleagues with life in prison, Birotte says, "We want to make the Internet a safe and secure marketplace." In reality, of course, the Justice Department wants to make this particular market as dangerous, insecure, and unreliable as possible, the better to discourage people from buying psychoactive substances that the government has arbitrarily declared intolerable. Willems et al.'s crime was not endangering consumers but protecting them from the vicissitudes of the black market.
Birotte is the same U.S. attorney who last year declared that "California law doesn't matter" when he decides which medical marijuana dispensaries to target.

KEEP DOPE ALIVE.
As I said in the link post.
1 million dollars in drugs over the course of a few years is laughably small.
I mean, that's a million despite perfectly logical paranoia that this sort of crackdown would eventually occur and might be able to be traced back to them.
Any drug operation operates under that assumption though, and the actual big ones manage to take down that amount in a single month.
If laws don't matter, cuntstain, why don't we let somebody you've ruined with the power of your office to shoot you in the face?
Laws do matter. They matter for the little people.
Hey, Officers... I don't have a dog, but you'd still find a way to shoot it.
Stand down Mr. FIFY and stop resisting!
STOP
RESISTING!
Can't wait to use the last great act of defiance. Right before the guards shove the crowd I'm in, into the train cars.
These people are all fucking animals. Power-abusing, authoritarian animals. One of the single most fantastic things that could happen in a potential/theoretical internal crisis, in my opinion, is a bunch of federal high-ups and US Attorneyss being rounded up and tried for something fitting, like treason.
Oh No! Not that!!
Convenience. Quality control. Customer service. We're dooooooooooooooooooooomed if we let that happen.
I wish the authoritarian fucktards that prefer the imprisonment of millions and the killing of tens of thousands of people annually to allowing drug users to attain their drug of choice safely and conveniently all die in a fucking fire.
A fire? You are much too generous. I wish them the death of an incurable and incredibly painful cancer. With no amelioration of the pain through dangerous substances that some people might abuse.
The only thing is with the slow cancer death, they'd still be doin' dirt for months and maybe years.

The Bill of Rights doesn't apply to the states!
Now now, you're still showing a few of those libertard colors there, young one. The correct statement would be:
The Bill of Rights doesn't apply to anything, because FEDERAL GOVERNMENT HUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.
Commerce Clause, General Welfare and Necessary and Proper.
And if you still resist you're obviously a racist that deserves a traitor's death.
Alt-text:
I'm not going to live there. There's no place for me there... any more than there is for you. Malcolm... I'm a monster. What I do is evil. I have no illusions about it, but it must be done.
"Now I am become Death, the Destroyer of Worlds."
Birotte: I know it's not protocol, but would you permit me to post our orders and inform the crew of our mission?
That reminds me -- I wonder what Sean Connery's political leanings are. I hope he's not a progressive.
According to Wikipedia he supports Scottish independence and won't return until it's a separate country. The party he supports is labelled "centre-left."
Sean Connery is a supporter of the Scottish National Party, which is centre-left, and has vowed that he will not return to Scotland until it is independent of the UK.
Michael Caine, on the other hand, is a prominent conservative British actor.
Sean Connery is a supporter of the Scottish National Party, which is centre-left, and has vowed that he will not return to Scotland until it is independent of the UK.
He's got a long wait.
Might not be that long actually, they are voting on it soon iirc.
However, while "centre-left" the SNP is also noted for being the only party to be against electrifying the Edinburgh-Glasgow rail link, and for being the only Scottish party to say that the Edinburgh Trams (light rail) was going to be a huge waste of money and overbudget and they should just use buses instead.
Sean Connery's political leanings are irrelevant. He's Sean fucking Connery.
This rule also applies to Bruce Campbell.
What does centre-left mean in relationship to center-left as I understand it? Are we talking metric or imperial directions?
It's measured in grys and lines.
Good point, Bruce Campbell could sing The Internationale while waving a red fucking flag and he would still be awesome.
You don't know me son so let me make one thing clear: if I ever kill you you'll be asleep, you'll have your back turned to me, and I'll plant a gun on you so I can say you were armed.
+100.
You, sir, have the day's threadwinner.
We've still got the Silk Road.
Silk road is harder to bring down because of the bitcoins.
Yay for free market currency!
What I love about bitcoin is that it is the the perfect illustration of how a currency has value only because everyone agrees it has value.
Good news everyone! According to Lawrence O'Donnell Obama will legalize drugs in his next term.
Hoo Ray!
And when he doesn't, they already have the excuse pre-packaged:
"Well he would, he secretly wants to, but all those damned conservative republicans won't let him!"
I've wondered something:
Would you, in exchange for a single-payer, ObamneyCare type medical system, and in return get the full legalization of drugs in toto? The caveat here being that "illicit" drugs are regulated and the DX criteria associated with "addiction" are expanded even more than they already are. Essentially, "aberrant use" would be considered a "health issue" (and thus diluting and bastardizing the medical definition of addiction even more).
I suspect any scheme that involves the legalization of drugs would play out something like this. NHS has done this to some degree with smack heads and sweet teeth, absent the legalization aspect.
Discuss.
That's an AWFUL trade.
Precisely. This is why ObamneyCare should be fought with all the vim and vigor one possesses. Like SOPA and its bastard spawn, I'm not convinced that staving off this Leviathan will be successful.
Too many people believe that medical care is a "right", and I think they could be duped under such a presentation. Remember, the end goals of TEAMS RED and BLUE are far from dissimilar.
Irrelevant, because I'm yet to see (or at least remember) a government attempt to make an exchange of confiscated liberties for some other item.
(cont. because of some dipshit "Your comment is invalid message")
The reality is that we're cracking down harder on, let's say, a person's rights over his own person. All drugs are still completely illegal, prostitution's still completely illegal, and the only movement we're seeing--homosexuality aside--on "vices" is to make cigarettes even harder to obtain and use. In my lifetime I've seen the drinking age raised, TV channels labeled, video games labeled, marijuana analogs banned, cold medicine kept under lock and key, sodas taxed, salts taxed and the wrong fats taxed.
It's absolutely an illusion that government will let us take some freedom back in exchange for sacrificing another. They'll take both.
Does he now? See my comment below.
Fool me once...Fool me twice....fool me three times....fool me four times....fool me five times...fool me.....
Clearly Barry thinks his supporters are even dumber than I do, and by god, that is saying alot.
I think that the fact that his supporters ARE dumb doesn't hurt.
Right after he forgives all student loans, closes Gitmo and balances the budget. I can't wait for Obama's 3rd term!
Obama is taking a hard turn right if he is given a next turn. You head me, not left, right. I'll elaborate more when I'm in a less intoxicated state of mind, but even the dickweed's first goal is going to be to salvage his reputation, not double down on pleasing his retarded supporters.
So Barry is calling for a double crack down in the war on drugs, including more random testing without any probable cause. Isnt this the same cocksucker ( literally ) who fooled a legion of fools into believing he was a lefty tolerant of free spirits who enjoyed the occasional recreational intoxicant? On a 1-10 scale, how butthurt are those stupid fuckers feeling now?
Most of them buy into the Red/Blue dynamics right now to honestly assess the swindling they endured.
Anyone else here know of or attended something called Hookahville? It's a festivl that used to be thrown every Memorial Day and Labor day weekends in Ohio. It was a 2 or 3-day festival which was also an open air drug market. The fascinating thing was that there were cops all over, but they didn't bust people for drugs. They were just there to keep the peace.
I'm so grateful Obama and his goons weren't in office back then to raid the whole place when I was there.
They still have it every year. I'm not sure if the drug culture is still the same since obama's election.
Cool, thanks. I was too lazy to simply look it up.
I am SO pissed that I missed out on this before it got shut down.
SHIT!
I want to spew a stream of rage at his shit, but I can only sigh...
It also makes me wonder, what happens if one of these countries decides not to cooperate?
SEALS get a new mission.
But the reach of the law is just as long.
He says that like it's a good thing.
Remember folks: Don't be caught being a Little Person.
