Ron Paul Roundup: Moving into Colorado, Winning Straw Polls in Arizona and Tennessee, Supported by Superpacs
Continuing to ignore a Florida where he continues to poll badly, though now breaking 10 percent, Ron Paul is moving on to Colorado this week.
He also continues his ability to smash all rivals in straw polls, with 63 percent at the Tennessee Republican Assembly and more than five times as many votes as everyone else combined at the Arizona state GOP's "mandatory meeting."
In other Paul talk:
*Al Jazeera questions five economists about Paulonomics, focusing on the Federal Reserve and spending cuts.
*Conor Murphy at the Washington Times site presents the evidence that Paul is running to win.
*The Occupy movement fights the Ron Paul infection.
*Brent Budowsky at the Hill believe Paul will beat Romney in Virginia.
*Interesting roundup at Washington Times of Paul's often-controversial views on Israel.
*Paul-supporting SuperPAC RevolutionPAC will host a Paulcentric Florida election returns webcast event.
*The L.A. Times follows Paul on the campaign trail in Maine.
*Very interesting video being aired in Florida, sponsored by another Paul-supporting Superpac, Endorse Liberty, trying to sell Paul's foreign policy:

Paul's getting three votes in Florida from my household--mine, cast on Saturday, and my wife's and oldest son's tomorrow.
No idea why anyone would vote otherwise who is voting in the GOP primary.
Newt has promised us the moon. How you can you vote against that?
What's absolutely crazy is that Gingrich's space policy isn't bad and appears to focus on enabling the private sector rather than continuing this odd space jobs program we have now.
Naturally, an interest in space and a sane space policy generates all of the mockery, while being an inconsistent, statist fuck doesn't.
I can mock Newt for many, many reasons, including his lack of personal ethics, his appearance, and his policies on nearly everything.
I just like that a candidate is literally promising us the moon.
On the moon, Meatwad, we have advanced beyond rules and manners.
We can't afford to go to the Moon without nuclear pulse rockets! Also, the Moon is a proper pronoun so it ought to be capitalized. Or is it a genericized trademark?
I just like that a candidate is literally promising us the moon.
PS... he didn't say which moon.
I think it's implied in the definite article. Now if he'd written 'a moon'...
I'm in the Moon camp. I mean, it's THE Moon. Not a moon.
Ditto, incidentally, the Earth.
Yeah, I see that so much that I feel funny writing Earth, but it's proper pronoun unless one's talking about dirt.
Meh, I mean proper noun.
What if he was using it as a verb?
Earthing? Is that a word? It doesn't get a red squiggly underline. I mean, unearthing, yes, but earthing? I'm not looking it up, either.
Could be a synonym for (electrical) grounding? Sounds vaguely . . . British.
British? They're not in charge of English anymore.
No idea why anyone would vote otherwise
Maybe they fear that people in foreign lands will like us less if we stop butting into their governmental affairs killing their citizens.
I guess. I had the "But the war!" conversation with my mom this weekend. I explained as best I could that (1) Paul's not talking total demobilization and won't ignore our treaty obligations, anyway, and (2) the economy is in big trouble if any other candidate becomes president. I'm sure she'll still vote for someone other than Paul.
"If we don't fight the terrorists there we'll be fighting them here!"
"He would legalize teh drugz!"
"He's crazy! Listen to his voice (not what he actually says)!"
One thing that did get her agreement (aside from pretty much everything domestic policy) was when I pointed out that Paul seems to say what he means and mean what he says. Alone of all of the candidates (including the Democrat waiting to be ousted) can that be said of him.
He has guiding principles and it could be reasonably predicted as to what he would do about certain things once in office.
That is extremely rare these days in politics.
Instead, we use the Random President Generator.
Sometimes I wonder if we would be better served by a lottery than an election.
"Good morning, Mr. Libertate. Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings, but you're the next president."
"Nooooooooooooo!"
Unfortunately, the randomization is centered around 'Statist Asshole' with a very small variance.
That's one reason I think the LP makes a mistake even running for president. Focus on Congress instead. More expensive, yes, but easier to get real victories in and the media and political focus on defeating them wouldn't so massive. That's still where the real power is, anyway. An activist, libertarianesque Congress could cause real grief for the statists.
Ron Paul and his nutty Audit the Fed nonsense again. The Fed has been audited by Deloitte for many years.
http://www.federalreserve.gov/.....mt2009.pdf
What RP means by "audit" is he wants Congress to determine monetary policy and that is idiotic.
You're a jackass.
Art. I, Sec. 8 of the Constitution:
If that isn't monetary policy, I don't know what is.
And Congress subcontracted monetary policy to the Fed nearly 100 years ago.
Monetary policy as a political football by the idiots in Congress would be a total disaster. Congress can kill the Fed any time they wish (with POTUS approval). It will NEVER happen.
Congress delegating their duties to people who do not answer to the voters (the fed, unelected bureaucracies) is the root of most of this government's problems.
The Fed Board of Governors are appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate.
Both the President and Senate are directly elected.
That is 100% answerable.
appointed by != elected
That is 100% answerable.
No, it's not.
Re: shrike,
So what? That does not mean Congress can simply ignore the mandate in Art I Sec 8, Fed or no Fed. Don't be a jackass.
You mean like the idiocy of keeping interest rates to almost paying people to borrow? Is that the sort of idiocy you're talking about?
Lowering the natural, market-determined interest rate is much like paying people to borrow. It may not seem quite as ridiculous superficially, but it is.
Who is the biggest borrower in the world?
It must be an American, cos we all know how fat they are.
God damn it shrike, sometimes I actually like you. One of my biggest criticisms of Ron Paul is his political naivete. He doesn't get that all his anti-fed rhetoric is more likely to lead to nationalized monetary policy than anything else. That's why Milton Friedman was such a better libertarian spokesperson. He had a sense of reality.
http://www.fff.org/freedom/0399b.asp
Re: shrike,
It's not like the Federal Reserve Act is unconstitutional or anything...
Oh yes, those zany Founding Fathers, what a crazy bunch!
Art I Sec 8
"To coin Money, regulate the Value thereof, and of foreign Coin, and fix the Standard of Weights and Measures;"
Like, that's crazy talk!
The Fed IS audited. Case closed.
And if the Fed is unconstitutional why fight it at the ballot box? Take it to the Supremes!
shrike|1.30.12 @ 3:38PM|#
The Fed IS audited. Case closed.
Man, am I glad I don't have to worry about that shit anymore. Thanks for pontificating, shrike!
I don't think you know what "audited" means.
http://www.federalreserve.gov/.....mt2009.pdf
All I get is a message saying the file is corrupted.
internal audit != external audit
Just so you know.
I suppose you think that if the IRS said you needed an audit and you said "No need. I've been doing it myself for years." they'd leave you alone, right?
I get a full audit report from Deloitte (in .pdf form).
I know damn good and well what an audit is. Ron Paul does not.
So you would expect the IRS to accept a self audit.
This just in: shrike is a dumbass, film at 11.
Re: shrike,
No, it wasn't. Case still pending.
Why not?
What's your worry if people take it to the ballot box, shriek? That we may prevail? Because we will.
No you won't! Ron Paul is the only anti-Fed candidate in modern times and he can't pull 5% in a general national election.
The USD is up to 79.20 (DXY) and inflation is moribund. A dollar hawk is happy as shit.
Hey Brian, have you heard any rumors concerning a book to be published in the next few months that's all about Ron Paul and his supporters?
I'm looking into it. Check the bottom of future posts about Ron Paul.
Every evening commute, I listen to Howie Carr out of Boston. Conservative. And any time Ron Paul's name is mentioned he goes into this stoned hippie voice, and says shit like, "Hey man....we should, like, you know...audit the Fed". He bashes the corruption and waste in politics, then has nothing but scorn for the "pot candidate". Drives me nuts. But I fear there are alot of folks like Carr that rah-rah War on Drugs, War on Terror, and think Patriotism=Big Military Spending. Paul will never get those peoples' votes.
Try Jerry Doyle if you can pick up a station that plays his show. He's in the same time slot as Howie and is much more friendly to Paul and his supporters.
Re: sarcasmic,
He actively endorses Paul, plus how can one be wrong with Misteeer Garibaldeeee?
The FM station round here that carries his show switched over to smortz, and the AM one cut their signal strength or something. Sucks.
Not that I dislike Howie, but I prefer to have choices.
You have no choices? Market failure! The government must intervene!
Conor Murphy! Good job buddy!
This isn't PM Links already!?
It would seem Julie Matthaei is a douchbag.
Winning Virginia would be huge, and it's a winner-take-all primary if the winner gets a majority of the votes. Since there are only two candidates, that's guaranteed to happen. It's 49 delegates. Paul should be dumping a ton of resources on winning that state, and painting himself as the only (literally) conservative option versus Romney's obvious opportunism and lack of principles.
Can you write-in on Virginia's ballot? If so, they might both fall short of 50%. What happens then? Proportional allotment?
It's winner take all in each district, and proportional for the statewide delegates.
Don't know their rules, but I bet "winning" in VA means "the one who got the most votes" even if one candidate got 2% and ninty-eight others got 1%.
You know, I just can't get enough of racism allegations.
One doesn't know what is more hilarious, if innuendo like this:
Or the comments from the clueless.
He reduced his debts?! Dastardly!
We can't have somebody like that running the country.
Re: Joe M,
Oh, the depth of his crime is to have reduced his debts at the same time he was publishing the newsletter! I mean, it's not like the OB/GYN business is luctrative enough, no! The real money is in newsletter publishing!
Man, 30 minutes and nobody's done it yet?
DONDEROOOOO!!!!!!!!
Who's Dondero pimping for this time? I would look for the most repulsive fascist on the card based on his '08 choice, but I'm not sure who that is.
The article is tendentious, which is not surprising even when it refers to a different article, but read this line at the end of it:
See? If you comment defending Paul, you're engaging in "Ron Paul talking points." It's like calling someone racist: You don't have to actually prove it so, it only matters if you say it is so.
Just read an article about why Ron Paul's record in congress is so bad?
For those not smart enough to get it, its because the bills he tried to pass or actions he opposed were designed to reign in reckless our of control congressional spending, unconstitutional actions, undeclared wars, bail outs, raising taxes, raising the debt ceiling, auditing the Fed, invasion of our liberties and trying to stop the Patriot Act, SOPA, the TSA, the fed, and on and on. These ideas are not popular with the elite and go against the status quo. Don't forget they own just about everyone in congress except Ron Paul and his ideas are do not sit well with the groups who own us.
All of what Ron Paul has warned the public about for 30 years is now upon us and we are headed for a cliff fast. The problem is that most people apparently do not understand and or think the being right about everything is not as important as supporting corruption and the theft of America, the subsequent transfer of wealth from the middle class to the rich as long as you stay in line with your piers.
The fact the his legislation was not approved is tribute to his quest for thru, honesty and a government limited by oath to honor to uphold the constitution. Corrupt people in Congress including the top office have a history of being willing to say and do anything to stay in power and with the support of the ignorant minions they and the corporate media that controls them.
Be a good boy or girl and do as you are told. Do not rock the boat like Ron Paul or you too won't get anything passed. I for one will vote for what is right not what is popular. The fact that he did not get many bills passed is exactly why you should trust his principles and integrity vote for the only true conservative in the race! Vote Ron Paul

???
Care to restate that?
BTW: It is "rein in", not "reign in".
I was a little disappointed by the "controversial views on Isreal" link,* which made Paul sound practically Zionist.
I want a President who says "Isreal's problems are not our problems."
*Although the title, 'Ron Paul and the Isreal Question' sounded rather iffy.
It's quite amazing that Ron Paul can move around so much while Doherty is licking his asshole.
It's quite amazing you can still type with Tony balls-deep in your ass.

From the Al Jaazera economists talk Ron Paul link:
Not only for issues of macroeconomics should we not cut government spending drastically, but also in terms of justice and equity.
Now, you might think that that sounds like a weird thing for an economist to say, you'd be right. Here's her tag line:
Julie Matthaei,
Professor of economics at Wellesley College, and author on the economic history of women in the US
She goes on to say:
"The biggest point I see with him vis-?-vis radical economics, which is where I come from, is that he has a similar critique of the current economic system. It's not 100 per cent the same. But he talks about lobbyists, and political corruption, and inefficient government ? It's just that his solution is very different."
By that, I think she means "he has a solution". Cause I've yet to see one that lets them keep giving away other people's money for "justice".
Here's one from Allan Meltzer,
Federal Reserve historian and professor of political economy at Carnegie Mellon University:
On ending the income tax:
"What would take its place? The United States, in my opinion - and the opinion of most other people - has a responsibility. It may have taken the responsibility too seriously and too far, but the world needs someone who provides political and military stability, and the United States is the primary place where that's going to occur.
Christ. Responsibility to police the world. And he feels he's taking care of this responsibility by paying his taxes.Either suit up soldier, or shut the fuck up. Walk through a minefield to tell us that, and maybe you wouldn't sound like such a retarded asshole. Maybe
