He Fell In Love With the Video Nasty
If you live in Great Britain and want to see the new sequel to The Human Centipede, you'd…better search for a torrent, I guess.
Catherine Shoard of The Guardian reports:
the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) has denied The Human Centipede II (Full Sequence) an 18 certificate for fears it poses a "real risk" to cinemagoers.
The BBFC refusal means it cannot be legally supplied anywhere in the UK -- even on DVD or download….
The BBFC described the central plot of the film as the "sexual arousal of the central character at both the idea and the spectacle of the total degradation, humiliation, mutilation, torture and murder of his naked victims".
It took the rare move of refusing to classify the film and explaining that no amount of cuts would allow them to give it a certificate.
The plot of Human Centipede 2 involves a man who "becomes erotically obsessed with a DVD copy of the original film -- in which the victims are surgically stitched together mouth to anus -- and decides to recreate the idea." Presumably the board felt this was a plausible scenario.
According to The Guardian, the BBFC has banned only 11 movies in its history. (That doesn't mean the board is inactive, just that it's usually possible to satisfy the censors with cuts.) Eight of those prohibited films -- including the horror classics Freaks and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre -- were eventually allowed to be released uncut. One picture that is still officially unavailable is the recent Japanese movie Grotesque. Shoard writes that
Grotesque's director, Koji Shiraishi, responded warmly to the ban, saying he was "delighted and flattered … since the film is an honest, conscientious work, made to upset the so-called moralists".

But yet the British Board of Film Classification refused to save their people from The Love Guru.
...and Gigli...
Three fucking Transformers movies.
Chill out guys, it's the NHS alternative to death panels.
Also....ewwwwwwww! Gross!
And thank you, Jesse, for the requisite South Park reference. They are absolutely on FIRE this season so far!
Yes they are. Crack Baby Basketball was pure genius.
You want me to eat the cuttlefish and asparagus? Or the Vanilla Paste?
I think you say cuttlefish so, I eat cuttlefish.
That episode wouldn't have been nearly as funny, without the "City Wok" guy.
Goddamn it now everyone thing the Chinese and the Japanese are the same thing!
Comedy gold!
Sorry, Kyle! Burrito to derrricious!
Sounds like the BBFC's list is a "must-see" gold mine.
Isn't Straw Dogs on that list? One of Peckinpah's greatest films.
It's not on the list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_nasty#DPP_list
I figure I've seen about half of those, by the way.
Oops. Actually, the BBFC did ban Straw Dogs, but it was never classified as a video nasty. If you scroll down in that Wikipedia article I just linked, it mentions the Straw Dogs situation.
I'm waiting for the real sequel, Human Centipede 2: Back in the Habit.
Alternate title: Monty Python and the Holy Centipede
HC2: Human Centipede United
Human Millipede
HC2: Electric Boogaloo
Look, I only used a three minute extended close up shot of a man's lips being slowly sutured to another man's distended sphincter muscles (with his muffled shit-choked screams mixed in 5.1) because it was essential to the narrative...
He Fell In Love With the Video Nasty... I just knew this would be another post about Anthony Weiner
We're done talking about his human centipede.
Good God.
Examples of this include a scene early in the film in which he masturbates whilst he watches a DVD of the original Human Centipede film, with sandpaper wrapped around his penis, and a sequence later in the film in which he becomes aroused at the sight of the members of the 'centipede' being forced to defecate into one another's mouths, culminating in sight of the man wrapping barbed wire around his penis and raping the woman at the rear of the 'centipede'
The movie stars Ben Stiller in a rubber, barbed wire-wrapped penis suit.
Oh how I hate preachy message films...
Why didn't we think of this?
I just can't work up the libertarian smugness necessary to celebrate the vileness of this film.
So just think about it like you do drugs. They aren't that great for you (some exceptions) but who gives two shits if your creepy teenage neighbor wants to sit in his basement and enjoy it.
The BBFC described the central plot of the film as the "sexual arousal of the central character at both the idea and the spectacle of the total degradation, humiliation, mutilation, torture and murder of his naked victims".
Sounds like Michael Powell's Peeping Tom.
The brits are such PC pansies. I saw The Human Centipede and had to keep fast forwarding to the nasty parts, which weren't that nasty at all.
If you want to see a really nasty film, try "Salo or The 120 Days of Sodom."
http://libertarians4freedom.blogspot.com/
Hey Gregoooo! -- I saw Salo at a theater in town in the '90s. Before the film started, the manager stood in front of the audience and warned that this movie is very tough to watch and, once the film started, there will be NO refunds given out to people who leave during the film.
People were streaming out of the show as it was playing!
Salo? Really? Why? I was not disturbed. I was actually disappointed. The coprophagia was the only part that even remotely felt disturbing and that was just reflexive.
The stories(unfilmed) were more disturbing than the film.
I'm glad you both saw it. I assume we're all horror fans here. The circle of blood was the most disturbing, I think Passolini sort of prepares you for that.
I agree that the unfilled stories were the most disturbing, the women who played the old hookers were really great actresses. This was a horror movie with a smile and lots of comedy.
In meant unfilmed.
Damn the British Board of Film Classification for banning this movie, and thereby ensuring wider spread media coverage of the movie, which has brought the movie to my notice, filling me with revulsion and anger at the movie maker and his audience.
