Reason Writers Around Town: Shikha Dalmia on Obama's Stealth Global Warming Agenda
Writing in today's New York Post, Reason Foundation Senior Analyst Shikha Dalmia argues that President Barack Obama might have dropped all talk of action on global warming but that doesn't mean he has given up on his crusade. "There are many ways to skin a cat," Obama has said. And his seems to be to give the anti-warming crusade a new name: clean energy. His new budget is chock full of measures to fund and promote so-called clean energy, even at this time of alleged budgetary austerity.
But don't look to Republicans to kill his clean energy boondoggle, Dalmia notes. They are equally enamored of clean energy because it polls well.

But don't look to Republicans to kill his clean enegy boondoggle,
Fucking budget cuts. How do they work?
Fucking budget cuts. How do they work?
First you eliminate all of the "fraud waste and abuse". Everybody supports doing that and it will save us ~ 2.4 gazillion dollars by 2020.
Second you eliminate all spending programs that no constituency. Those myriad of federal programs that benefit nobody whatsoever. This will save an additional 1.3 gazillion by 2020.
Finally, you "invest" in technology programs that lawmakers have wisely determined will so boost our economy that the increased revenue from explosive GDP growth. The sums that this will pour into federal coffers is virtually incalculable.
Here's how I'd do it. Pick a number--say, $2 trillion. Cut stuff to achieve that number.
"Stealth" global warming agenda? It's a bad idea, but it isn't "stealth." He can't shut up about it.
good stewardship of God's creation is a true conversative principle. dont throw-out that baby w the bathwater.
"God's creation"
Stuff your mythical sky-daddy up your butt.
Don't make me come down there!
Orrin is only using religion here because it bolsters his AGW bullshit.
that's the spirit...err, spirits !
"Orrin is only using religion here because it bolsters his AGW bullshit."
Quite a bit of AGW bullshit *is* religion; it's about "The Rapture", original sin, etc.
good stewardship is far more than AGW. re-read my original statement please.
"... re-read my original statement please."
Didn't improve.
Re: OhioOrrin,
Not unless you make me. Re-reading anything you wrote hurts the eyes, especially those incomplete sentences - ugh!
Didn't God give man dominion over all the earth (Genesis)? Was this dominion limited to non-exploitation?
Re: OhioOrrin,
I am so glad I am not a conservative, otherwise I would have to defend what "good stewardship according to God" means against a halfwit.
u misquoted my statement...nowit.
Re: OhioOrrin,
OO, baby, with your proficient writing skills and ability to write cogent and proper sentences, is it humanly possible to accurately quote you? Please, cut the rest of humanity some slack - there ARE things in this universe that cannot be done by us, the mere mortals, like (for instance) NOT MISQUOTING YOU, because you write like SHIT.
wow take a chill pill. ur opinion of my writing amuses
"ur opinion of my writing amuses"
Oh, the stupidity!
What's "stealthy" about it?
That's what I was thinking!
"There's no conspiracy, it is right there!"
>>They are equally enamored of clean energy because it polls well.
Here is a dichotomy with which I have trouble...in general, people support democracy and hate elitist boobs who think they should be in charge because they think they're smarter than everyone else.
And yet "polls well" is an insulting dismissal of a course of action. Because, y'know, the common folk are idiots who need to be told what to do. Which implies we should be in charge since we're smarter than everyone else.
Which makes us...?
Either the people are smart enough and wise enough to make these decisions or they're not. If they are, then polls can tell us what the people want. If not, then they shouldn't be making decisions at all and we should get our aristocracy on.
Just sayin'
indeed
Polls are fairly easily manipulated, however, if the pollster has no ethics.
Is reason finding out right now? Come on, Reason, watch Glenn Beck and you'll learn about Obama's plan for global taxes, global redistribution of wealth, global charity so poor nations can live better while rich nations live worse.
What do you think people like Van Jones, George Soros and Piven want? "Workers of THE WORLD" ring a bell? Obama calling himself a "global citizen" rings a bell?
Communism and progressivism are internationalist movements. Obama's agenda has never been an American agenda, this is what America gets for electing a Hawaiian who grew up in Indonesia. And yes, Hawaii is not the most American place on earth, native Hawaiians actually believe we stole their country from them.
GOD HATES SCOTUS: THEY RULE 8-1 FOR FRED "GOD HATES FUNERALS" PHELPS.

beck's an uber-mormon fear monger who said "if anyone believes a word i say, they're nuts".
Obama isn't a secret socialist, just stupid. Ah, but I forgot that you take your political cues from the GOP. My bad.
However, he is opposed to projecting US power, as evidenced by his handling of the Iranian uprising, Hatian uprising, Libian uprising, Egyptian uprising, Tunisian uprising, etc...
lets see, us military forces are in hostile action in iraq, afghanistan, yemen, & the horn of africa. pls try to keep up
The US invented the solar energy industry. Now China's has surpassed and dominated it.
There are interests that want to preserve the oil burning status quo because it's in the short-term very profitable for them. Their interests do not coincide with the interests of anybody else. If you are denying science, calling clean energy programs names like "job killing," or otherwise resisting this necessary advancement, you are doing the bidding of interests that are not your own, and it's pathetic.
If we're going to beat China (and lets be honest, we couldn't possibly live up to that ideal) we had better start rethinking our system of governance. I'm convinced that listening to Hu Jintao's call for clean energy investments ? not the words, but the man ? were more than a few young Americans who were saying to themselves: "Hmmm, let's see. He's old. I'm young. He's yellow-skinned. I'm not. He doesn't have a middle name. My middle name is Derrick. His grandfather was anti-communist. My grandfather was anti-communist. He is president of China. And I'm an unemployed young America with no solar cells on my roof." I'd put that in my mix of forces fueling these debates.

"The US invented the solar energy industry. Now China's has surpassed and dominated it."
Surprisingly, there are no TVs made in the US any longer. For good reason.
Oh, and China 'beat us' on buggy whips, too!
Go suck a diseased cock, Tony.
Re: Tony,
Just as well, after the West surpassed China's inventions in the water wheel industry, the silk industry, the black powder and black powder weapons industry, in pig iron smelting industry, in the plow industry, in the flax spinning industry, in ....
Which are all so relevant to our future economic strength.
What's stopping you from buying solar panels?
Re: Tony,
Yes - that would be the oil consumers.
That's absurd, as "everybody else" is "everybody else" that consumes oil, pretty much being: everybody else!
"Denied the True God three times!"
But that is only because they are.
"Resistance is futile!"

Actually, your whole rant there is what's pathetic, not the fact that people like using oil to survive.
There are interests that want to preserve the oil burning status quo because it's in the short-term very profitable for them.
Say the name!!!!!
Lord Coke? (pronounced Cook.)
consumers?
The Oil Gremlins?
TAR BABIES!!!!
Oil-eating ocean bacteria?
Those are all valiant attempts, but the correct answer, obviously is
Boris Badenov.
It's Random Comma Day!
For some reason I read that as Random Condum Day, which would be kind of gross.
There are quite a few suckers for "kleen energee" born every minute.

Every day is Random Conundrum Day.
Turn on MSNBC, if you don't believe me.
