CPAC Still Safe for Sombrero-Wearing, Ahab-Mocking, Flag-Waving, Palin-Loving Grammy Winners
Infiltrators from Big Gay and Big Libertarian may be giving social cons the vapors about CPAC, but rest assured that Grammy-winning funtime songster Ray "The Streak" Stevens will be standing athwart Planet Libtardia shouting "Ay-rab! Mexican!" Not only will Stevens be speaking on a panel entitled "Pop Culture: An Influence or a Mirror?", music-haters everywhere will be relieved to know that he's scheduled to perform tonight at the Presidential Banquet. I am confident Mike Huckabee and the Heritages will not protest.
Enjoy some recent Stevensania:

The fact that his ode to Palin is not getting massive airtime on every radio and music show is America is all the proof you need of the left-wing bias of the lamestream media.
Seems to be one of his weaker songs, and not based on content. "Come to the USA" is a much catchier toon.
Big Libertarian
Does not compute.
You haven't seen my profile. It would make Alfred Hitchcock blush.
Does not compute.
Yeah, like all 12 of us were going to be at CPAC.
Ahab the Arab isn't a "recent" song. It hit #5 on the Billboard Top 40 song in July, 1962.
In terms of Ray Stevens' career, 1962 might as well be tomorrow.
He is 72 and still selling out small venues for multiple shows out here in fly over country. I don't think he has a lot of worries about his career.
When I was 8 years old, I thought "The Streak" was great. Then I discovered music.
Can I still get his music on two 8-tracks from K-Tel?

One would think that reason.com would be the last place to expect to find political correctness, and one would be wrong.
Yeah, yeah, drink. That's funny every time.
What the hell? After all I've been reading, I figured The Pet Shop Boys and Jihad Jerry & The Evildoers would be the musical guests at CPAC.
Maybe the Cure will do Killing An Arab.
The Weather Girls should do "It's Raining (Arab) Men".
Or Fire in Cairo!
Walk like an Egyptian?
So he complains about immigration with the Statue of Liberty behind him? Is he trying to be covertly ironic?
That would be giving him too much credit
Jesus, the whole song is about how much other countries suck and their totalitarian immigration laws, so...the US should be more like that? Or is he really saying what I would say? "Hey, you're government is oppressive. Come to the US to be free(er)."
I really can't make out what he's trying to say in the first video.
He complained about illegal immigration.
Based on the last video, I swear to god he's laughing at Palin, not supporting her.
It's like some old metal songs. Are they protesting war or are they singing about how awesome death and destruction are?
"""So he complains about immigration with the Statue of Liberty behind him? Is he trying to be covertly ironic?"""
Since the Statue of Liberty was built in celebration of US independence and the right of Americans to make their own laws why would it be ironic. The French gave it to the US the Statue because of their help with US independence not because of mass immigration.
Oh, you are talking about that bad poem that was stuck on the base of the Statue of Liberty 19 years after it was built, sorry it had nothing to do with why the Statue was built.
Liberty includes the right of all people to live and work without permission from the government.
Rock the Casbah?
The shareef don't like it.
Social cons are the most un-self-aware schmucks on the planet, and beating out the earnest TEAM BLUE retards takes some doing...but they do it.
I shouted "Don't look Ethel!!" But it was too late. She'd already been mooned.
Crescent mooned, even!
It's okay, maybe he'll offend the social conservatives, too:
Would Jesus be political if he came back to earth
Have his second home in Palm Springs.. yeah.. but try to hide his worth
Take money from those poor folks when He comes back again
And admit He's talked to all those preachers who said they'd been-a talking to Him
I still like him better than Cat Stevens.
infidel.
It's not Bridget, that's for sure...
Also, his "">Misty" was not fucking around...
Damn.
I was kind of surprised to hear that Ray Stevens is still alive. I remember some of his humorous songs were mildly funny (like The Streak). He tried to be serous once, with a cliche-riddled piece of tripe called Mr. Businessman.
I would call him maybe third-string. Does CPAC have a reputation for crappy "entertainment"?
It seems like the type of venue Lee Greenwood would play.
Things I learned from Reason today: Ray Stevens is still alive and wants the US to be more like North Korea and Sudan.

I just listened to "Ahab the Arab" for the first time, and I was trying to figure out who would want to hear it twice. The song barely has ANYTHING to it. Even if you are looking for offensiveness, the song barely has any of that. I conclude that people who listen to it more than once are people who *enjoy* costumes and implied-sex songs that rhyme.
