Cal Minor Party Results: Decline2State Wins By 8.5 Lengths; God Party Places; Libertarians Still Running
Twenty-five percent of California voters refuse to endorse the Republican/Democrat duopoly, and one in every five voters declines to join a party at all, according to voter registration statistics released by Secretary of State Debra Bowen.
Of the Golden State's 17.3 million registered voters, 7.6 million identify as Democrats and 5.3 million as Republicans, while 3.5 million decline to choose a party.
According to the current Registration Report [pdf], Decline To States now make up 20.25 percent of registered voters, up from 18.5 percent in 2006. The Democrats' percentage has increased from 42 percent to 44 percent over that time, while the Republicans have dropped from 34 percent to 31 percent.
Among voters who do choose a party but avoid the Republocrats, the American Independent Party holds a very substantial lead, with 413,032 registered members and 2.4 percent of the total. The Green Party follows, with 113,835 and 0.66 percent. Libertarians have 91,111 and 0.53 percent—unchanged since 2006. The Libertarian Party has fewer members than the 127,318 in the catch-all category of "Other" minor parties.
While anti-libertarians will point to the LP's terrible numbers as evidence that voters reject fringe ideas, I challenge anybody to find anything in the LP's platform that approaches the kind of flapdoodle promoted by the American Independent Party, which is best known for nominating the segregationist George Wallace for president in 1968:
God has imposed on men a duty to associate in governments to put a justified fear into the hearts of evildoers. These duties are given for the good of all, but not to deprive any of the rights they are designed to protect!
In addition to members of ballot-qualified minor party members, 25,070 Californians belong to non-qualified parties. Nearly all of these belong to the 24,000-strong Reform Party, according to the Report of Political Bodies Attempting to Qualify [pdf]. But if I'm going to change up my LP registration, it will be to become the 231st member of the We Like Women Party, which according to its notice of intent to qualify [pdf] is neuroscientifically guaranteed to get women more money, power and places at law and medical schools:
Because we like women,
We want women to have more money, wealth,
power, assets, property, scientific education, etc..
We want every woman to live like a princess with
robotic servants,
We also want more women in power and more women
to win elections!
The We Like Women Party also promises "Superhealthy and supersexy exercise laws!"
