L.A.'s New Crackdown on Medical Pot
The federal DEA-aided raid noted yesterday was just part of L.A.'s latest spasm against medical marijuana dispensaries. See my post at my California news and politics blog "City of Angles" for more links and backgrounds on a day of a raid, some lawsuits, and a bunch of threatening letters to landlords aimed at 21 different L.A. medical pot dispensaries.
The whole saga of L.A.'s troubled attempts to deal with being the national capital of over-the-counter medical marijuana will be told in a forthcoming Reason magazine feature.

Unrelated, though probably of interest to Reasonites:
"Tobacco Tax Parity Act of 2010" (H.R. 4439, January 13, 2010)
SEC. 2. PIPE TOBACCO AND ROLL-YOUR-OWN TOBACCO RATE PARITY.
(a) In General- Subsection (f) of section 5701 of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 is amended by striking `$2.8311 cents' and inserting `$24.78'.

This would cause a 775% increase of federal taxes on pipe tobacco. Grand, no?
Well we have to close the loophole. When Obama signed the 1700% SCHIP tax increase on Bugler, Topps, and the other luxury brands of do-it-yourself cancer sticks it seems Scrooge McDuck, Rich Uncle Pennybags and the rest of the top hat and monocle crowd decided to "evade" the tax. Those Robber Barons are stocking their diamond-encrusted, gold Faberge cigarette cases with under-taxed smokes rolled from so-called "pipe tobacco".With the Tobacco Tax Parity Act of 2010 there will be no more legalized stealing from the sickest children. The rich have to pay their fair share.
lol i can't tell whether that's a joke or not
Tap your sarco-meter with your fingernail.
GOOD MORNING REASON!!! 🙂
As revenues dry up and costs increase, the competition for government dollars will become fierce. The criminal industrial complex is not going to take this lying down. The Pigs aren't going to let go of the cash cow that has been the drug war go without a fight. Unfortunately, these tyrannical cocksuckers are the ones with the guns.
so it's irrelevant whether they're good or bad?
"The Pigs aren't going to let go of the cash cow that has been the drug war go without a fight. Unfortunately, these tyrannical cocksuckers are the ones with the guns." You need a drink.

Solution:
Register Democrat or Republican for the congressional primaries this spring and then write-in "END THE DRUG WAR" for all congressional races.
Use your political free speech in the one place it really counts.
No Dude, just stay home and smoke some weed.
No, stock up on pipe tobacco and, when the tax on it goes up, sell the untaxed pipe tobacco on the black market.*
* I'm joking.
That is useless. Childish distraction.
And here I thought you were offering yourself some sound advice
Dude:
This was to Dude specifically.
Your response is useless. Childish distraction.
By utilizing something called an "atomizer" it instantaneously turns a water-based liquid into a dense vapor that is practically identical to smoke. The e cigarette offers the possibility
to integrate nicotine into the liquid being vaporized to truly replicate the feel and satisfaction of smoking a real cigarette.
