I'm Overwhel—; No, I'm Underwhel—; O.K., I'm Whelmed
A fitting anticlimax for a pretty low-energy week, I think. McCain's speech was good, very gracious, moving in parts, and generally serviceable. The roof was blown off the dump last night, I guess. Maybe this was good enough. Hey! Balloons!
Also I think McCain may have been hamstrung by the lineup of wet blankets who warmed up for him. Tom Ridge wasn't even hitting his applause lines. Why didn't they let Rudy go tonight, since it was all security stuff anyway?

So Weigel's dick IS still in your mouth. Wow! Talk about staying power...or poor technique.
Jeffery Toobin said it was the worst convention acceptance speech since Carter 1980.
Hey! Balloons!
Yeah, but how many could you touch and lick?
anticlimax
They have medication for lower back spasms.
The first twenty minutes were godawful. He picked it up as it went along, but it was pretty pedestrian even at its best.
Anyone have a "my friends" count?
Why didn't they let Rudy go tonight?
Because the Republicans punted. They're not stupid, they know they're gonna lose. So they get the new savior QB warming up on the sidelines, while they punt the ball. They're going to play defense for the next four years and mount, and bring in their shining new star in 4 years.
They look at how the '04 convention was a launching pad for Obama, and they wanted to make sure they had their own star ready for 2012. They found their candidate in Palin. That's why they brought out the heavy guns last night to hit Obama hard. They kicked off their 2012 campaign last night. They set up the whole convention to make Palin become the only star of the whole thing.
Look for a heated primary battle between Palin, Pawlenty and Romney in 3 years.
My friends ... have I mentioned to you that I was a POW?
USA! USA! USA! USA!

1. You don't have a better speaker outshine the candidate on the last night(McCain's pretty good at off the cuff, sounds a bit stilted reading off a ptompter).
2. NFL opening night game. A signifigant portion of the audience is not watching politics at all during the ealrier speeches.
If McCain had dropped his drawers and laid a turd on stage, I think he'd have been just as effective and not waste so much time.
It's difficult to be underwhelmed when you know it's a McCain speech.
If McCain had dropped his drawers and laid a turd on stage
...that would have been great. Now that's a political speech I could watch.
You can't burden him with such high expectations. His bowels are simply not those of a man twenty years younger. His speech was a fine piece of dreck.
I'm gonna raise me some McCain this weekend!
*Deanscream*
(NB: I actually didn't watch the speech. I've been content with reading secondhand drunken commentaries here.)

Just give him some Metamucil and some prunes, and he'll be up for the job. He shit pure American-ness while a POW, don'cha know?
