Radicals For Capitalism: A Home on the Web
While this does not mean that news and hype about my new book Radicals for Capitalism: A Freewheeling History of the Modern American Libertarian Movement, will not be seen here on Hit and Run as the occasion warrants, I did want to announce the launch of a new site dedicated entirely to news and hype about the book: RadicalsForCapitalism.com.Tell the family, blogroll to your heart's content.
As time goes on, I hope to make it a one-stop-shopping site not only for info about the book, but for links and info about the book's topic, the history of the modern American libertarian movement. In the meantime, it's the place to check early and often for reviews, radio and TV shows, personal appearances, and all else that goes into trying to sell a book in the free market.

Props to you, Mr. Doherty, for both your book and your new website. I shall be buying the book immediately (thank you, Christmas gift cards!) and bookmarking the new site.
Very cool! You are the "rochinest" L I 'know'!
So, who are you rooting for in the Sunday race? If you say something other than a MOPAR car I will still support you, just not as much 🙂
rochinest == rockingest
Brian,
What news of the book tour ? There's nothing at the website either.
Most of the appearances will be in March...I'm still working on the site, all should be revealed there within a week....
Will you be on The G. Gordon Liddy Show?
What about Laura Ingrham?
The book is a page turner. An education tour de force. Thank you Brian you have given me a lot to think about.
Mopar Rules
Brian, congrats.
Chapter 1: Patriots, Unterrified Jeffersonians, and Superfluous Men
It sounds like a great read. But just one quibble. Is "capitalist" being used here as a synonym for "libertarian"? My thinking is this, one could live on a kundalini yoga ashram and share everything collectively but still be a libertarian - if we simply define libertarian as one who doesn't want the government to intrude on one's civil or economic actions. For that matter, one could be an Amish, a Tibetan monk, or a mountain man surviving on the fish from the streams or the animals from the forest. One could live on barter and not on money at all with no contradiction to the basic definition of libertarian. Capitalist seems to be a narrower definition which would exclude some of the aforementioned groups.
Thanks for the tip about the book. It sounds quite promising and I look forward to reading it. If all goes well, I'll review it on my Libertarian themed blog at:

Brian, what can we do to try to get you interviewed on our local talk radio shows? Write to the host and say, "Hey, we want to hear this guy"?
Brian,
Has Mr. Weigel threatened to hit you with his hankey if you appear on the Laura Ingraham show or Rush Limbaugh?
Has Reason restricted you to the Daily Show, Colbert and CNN while banning you from FOX?
If you don't answer this I understand as Jennifer filled me in on The protocols of the Elders of Reason 🙂
There is a typo on the top right of the page, under Blogroll:
"My professional home, the leading libertarian journal OR reporting and opinion, Reason Magazine"
The conspiracy has begun!
Moments ago I conducted an anonymous search of the new Olsen's store on Crystal Drive, Arlington, VA and Brian's book was nowhere to be found!
Both of Senator Obama's books were easily viewable from the windo, along with plenty of anti-market books all over the the store, but not a single copy of this fine work.
I believe that a strongly worded telegram is in order.
Guy -- Bookstore employees, like journalists and editors (of which I was one), are overwhelmingly lefties. I think it's because they tend to be relatively well educated (in the liberal arts) and therefore feel particularly cheated by the fact that they're making less than most blue-collar workers. After all, the world must be fugged up if someone with a 3.8 GPA in comparative lit can't find a job paying six figures.

This store appears to be run by the "owners", or the closest approximation that those Collectivists can muster.
jp, i find you so human, making it difficult to believe that you were in thst gutter line of work.
Uh . . . thanks?
Given Ayn Rand's opposition to libertarianism, it shows considerable cheek to borrow a term she invented to characterise the libertarian movement.
FYI, the book looks great -- a really easy and pleasurable read. I just recommended it to a commie guy who goes to a coffee shop I often frequent as a way of understanding "the other side."
I'm on chapter 2 of the book. I'm also recommending it to people.
"For that matter, one could be an Amish, a Tibetan monk, or a mountain man surviving on the fish from the streams or the animals from the forest. One could live on barter and not on money at all with no contradiction to the basic definition of libertarian."
The examples are a bit extreme but I do think there is sometimes confusion in the general public over these terms. There's an assumption "libertarian" is the no different from "entrepeneur", "businessman," or "capitalist." When I first became interested in libertarianism someone I know said something to me like, "it seems like you're in an entrepeneurial phase of your life," when in fact I had done nothing entrepeneurial at all. I hadn't even worked in business.
Brian,
Congrats! Any firm plans yet for an "Unabridged Audio" edition???
Nice. Lemme get paid and I'll see if I can't pick up a copy.
after much searching, I found an archive of the CSPAN show.

enjoy!
I did a search on barnes and nobles web site for "radicals for capitalism", and Brian's book came up 1st. The second book it matched to that phrase was the Communist Manifesto. Conspiracy indeed! Take some solace: the 4th book listed was "Road to Serfdom".
