Yup. I have been told by self-proclaimed socialists that I am "just a right wing reactionary who likes to get high" (never been stoned or fried in my life), and by MAGA hat wearing yokels that I'm just "another damned progressive who hates America".

None of the tribals never bother to even consider the perspective from outside the tribal bounds. I don't like drag queen story hour in public libraries, not because I hate drag queens, but I feel that public libraries should be privatized. And I don't like protectionism and tariffs not because I hate American businesses but because I love free trade.

Now if you want to discuss these issues in good faith, I am happy to do so. I do understand where the protectionists are coming from, but my disagreement with them does NOT mean I hate America or American businesses. But they would rather shout out their tribal identity rather than engage in good faith discussion.

Good faith discussion is hard to find. At least here in the Reason comments. Most discussions follow a consistent format being you say something critical of team A and you're attacked for supporting team B.

It would be really nice if people could get together and realize the enemy is the duopoly, not the other team.

More than anything else, you take the slightest defense of Trump as signs of being a raging nazi, and the slightest criticism of socialists as requiring you to defend those po widdle defenseless socialists.

Your interest in serious discussions is about as serious as this foreplay here.

The only way you could ever convince me, and probably a lot of others, that you are serious is to see you list Trump's good points instead of pretending he had none, and to admit that the Democratic party stands for socialism and ever more government. Go ahead and list Trump's bad points too, he has plenty. Go ahead and show how the Republican party also wants to grow the State and tell people what to do. But until you can also list ways Trump was better than Biden, and admit the Democratic party admires the CCP, your claims to both seriousness and sarcasm are unbelievable.
