Workplace immigration raids on hold. In the face of public protests and an apparent lobbying effort by businesses and members of his administration, President Donald Trump ordered a pause on some workplace immigration raids.

Get your morning news roundup from Liz Wolfe and Reason.

This field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.

That decision was made after Trump met last week with Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins, who reportedly impressed upon the president the essential role that immigrants (not all of them with proper documentation, it seems) play on American farms. But the pause seems to apply more broadly. Regional offices of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) were told late last week to "hold on all work site enforcement investigations/operations on agriculture (including aquaculture and meat packing plants), restaurants and operating hotels," The New York Times reported on Friday.

That's a sharp pivot for the administration, which had recently ordered ICE to step up its immigration enforcement by specifically targeting workplaces where undocumented migrants might be working. In recent weeks, raids have taken place at nail salons, hardware stores, farms, restaurants, and other job sites. (Last week I wrote about the community response to one such raid in San Diego.)

If we can't have leaders who consistently take pro-liberty positions, then we should hope those who don't will at least sometimes see the error of their ways. Immigration policies aimed at arresting and deporting members of criminal gangs might be broadly popular. Raids targeting individuals who are peacefully exchanging labor for dollars certainly aren't. It's good that Trump is listening to someone other than Stephen Miller about this stuff.

Minnesota shooting suspect arrested: Over the weekend, Minnesota state Rep. Melissa Hortman (D–Brooklyn Park) and her husband were killed, and state Sen. John Hoffman (D–Champlin) and his wife were wounded, in separate attacks carried out in the early hours of Saturday morning. Last night police arrested the man suspected of carrying out what seems to have been a politically motivated attack targeting state lawmakers.

The suspect is Vance Boelter, a 57-year-old man. He was arrested near Green Isle, Minnesota, about an hour west of Minneapolis, and he has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of second-degree attempted murder.

Israel and Iran still killing people: Israel claimed to have hit a command center for Iran's Quds Force on Monday. Meanwhile, the bodies are piling up on both sides.

In a post on X, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said "there is no intention to physically harm the residents of Tehran" despite the ongoing bombardment of the city. The Iranian government claims that more than 200 people in Iran have been killed since the war began on Friday. At least 21 people have been killed in Israel.

Iran and the United States were supposed to negotiate during this week's G7 summit, but "that ship seems to have sailed," reports Reason's Matthew Petti.

What if there was a big dumb parade and no one cared? What was supposed to be the big spectacle of the weekend—the military parade in Washington, D.C., to mark the U.S. Army's 250th birthday (and which fell on Trump's 79th birthday too)—ended up being overshadowed by the war, the Minnesota shootings, and the "No Kings" protests in hundreds of cities and towns. It also just didn't draw many people and seems to have been kind of a mess.

I just got back from the Trump parade and I have to say it was legitimately the worst executed mass attendance event I've ever seen

One overarching thought: how do you spend $80 million and fumble the basics?

Many more thoughts -

???? ???? ???? pic.twitter.com/e9O9dc1qPx

— Doug Landry (@dougblandry) June 15, 2025

The parade was an absurd waste of money—Reason's Billy Binion crunched the numbers and found that it cost about half a million bucks per minute. I did like the idea of having the Army wear throwback uniforms from the eras when America fought wars for good reasons. Or at least for less bad ones. Well, sometimes less bad ones. Look, I am no apologist for authoritarians and not a big fan of military rah-rah-ism, but I am a history nerd and that was pretty cool.

Scenes from Palm Springs: I've assembled this newsletter from a red-eye flight home from FreedomFest, the annual libertarian shindig. It is not difficult to choose the best moment of this year's gathering: Ross Ulbricht's heartfelt (and at times heartbreaking) speech on Friday evening.

What an honor to have @RealRossU join us for one of his first appearances after release. pic.twitter.com/9Khr4a9KgU

— FreedomFest (@TheFreedomFest) June 14, 2025

A full video of Ross' remarks can be found here.

Ulbricht had been serving two consecutive life sentences in a maximum security prison before being pardoned by President Donald Trump in January. Libertarians of all kinds had called for his release, but the largest share of credit should go to his mother, Lyn Albricht, who was honored with an award at FreedomFest. In remarks to the event's closing dinner, she discussed her new efforts on behalf of individuals serving excessive and cruel sentences. I wish her tremendous success.

QUICK HITS

  • The Trump administration is effectively nationalizing U.S. Steel (which is a private company, despite how the name sounds). A deal being finalized by the White House would give presidents "a permanent stake in U.S. Steel, significant sway over its board and veto power over a wide array of company actions, an arrangement that could change the nature of foreign investment in the United States," The New York Times reports.
  • Matt Yglesias writes that California's high-speed rail project should be scrapped. He's not wrong.
  • Is the 25th Amendment useless?

In April U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly barred the order’s critical proof-of-citizenship requirement for the federal voter registration application and, according to Politico, “another provision that instructs federal agencies not to assist individuals with registering unless they can assess that those people are U.S. citizens.” She left provisions like the Election Day deadline and the UOCAVA proof-of-citizenship requirement in place, but Democrats simply moved along to the favorable venue and achieved a victory in one district court that has nationwide consequences for the integrity of U.S. elections.

Casper granted the states a preliminary injunction, preventing Trump’s order from being implemented, saying the states are likely to prevail in further court proceedings. She said implementing better voter ID would likely cause irreparable harm to states, because it would be complicated and expensive.

I tend to agree, so long as those participating are not breaking laws(*) that if I were to break, I would be fined or jailed. Minimum wage laws, tax evasion, welfare fraud, identity theft, tax fraud, OSHA regs, are among the first things that pop into my head.

People argue "Americans aren't willing to work for immigrant wages" which is partially true. But the real issue is that Americans work within the regulatory structure. And illegals don't.

We saw in 2019 citizens lining up for these jobs (meat packing plants) after immigration raids.

The myth of citizens won't work remains a myth to push open borders. They have to justify their defense of theft anyway they can.

They claim that fucking construction is a job Americans won't do.

Those jobs were paying $20+/hr. Last summer, Tyson announced they were hiring 10,000s of migrants and offering $16. It's a real mystery why those jobs weren't filled by Americans.

A lot of Americans work outside the regulatory structure too. Probably fewer than once did (sadly, to my mind), but there's plenty of income going unreported (do you file a 1099 for every $600 transaction you make?) and plenty of people working for cash.

Odd how reality conflicts with the narrative:

        https://x.com/CortesSteve/status/1934617051219345869

"Every seat in the waiting area of Glenn Valley Foods was occupied with people filling out job applications early Thursday afternoon, two days after the meatpacking plant became the center of the largest worksite immigration raid in the state."

          That. Is. Impossible.

The narrative clearly states on page 7, paragraph 3 that Americans won't want to work.

Then on page 10 paragraph 2 it clearly states these jobs are beneath Americans and only suitable for filthy foreigners.

You just ignore facts and chug on .....:)

Over the administration’s first 50 days, ICE arrested nearly 33,000 undocumented immigrants, including 75% accused of or convicted of a crime, the Department of Homeland Security said Wednesday.

Anyway, I ask now what I asked under Biden : What is being done to give a path to citizenship? Biden and Harris did shtall and no one on Reason said a squeak.

The legal immigration system exists, so claiming there is no path to citizenship is false on the face of it.

You also might want to do even the barest amount of research on how many legal immigrants the U.S. lets in every year compared to every other nation on the face of Earth.

The fact you claim to teach college is frightening when you have a total inability to research basic facts. Is that not taught in grad school OR your undergrad? Baffling.

You mean the "path to citizenship" that 1M+ people use annually to become naturalized US citizens and have for decades?

It might not be a smooth and easy as you want to make it, but for the love of all that is holy, please stop pretending that there is not already a legal path to citizenship that people could follow if they just chose to do so instead of wading across the Rio Grande and climbing a fence.

Just days after CPI disappointed the the Trump Tariff infation fear-mongers once again and a month since the UMich survey found that "Women, Democrats, & Low-Income Americans Are Out Of Their TDS-Addled Minds", and one week after Goldman finally called out the idiocy of the UMich survey, slamming its "partisanship" and the "sample design break starting from June 2024"...

one week after Goldman finally called out the idiocy of the UMich survey

Looking deeper into this: Goldman is predicting blunted tariff inflation of around 3.6% because an economic slowdown will counter inflation.

Goldman economist David Mericle says the core measure of the personal consumption expenditure price index will accelerate to 3.6% later this year, from 2.6% in March.

That will come from the direct impact of higher import prices as well as the higher domestic production costs, as well as from “producers opportunistically raising prices.”

...But more importantly, Mericle says the U.S. economy will slow down later in the year, growing just 1%, or about half of the American economy’s potential.

“We are skeptical about the prospects for prolonged high inflation amidst mediocre economic performance,” he says.

      https://www.marketwatch.com/story/why-goldman-sachs-says-tariff-price-hikes-wont-trigger-an-inflation-surge-57dac769

TL:DR A weakening economy is predicted to cause deflationary pressures which will limit inflation caused by tariffs.

      1. Jefferson Paul   7 hours ago

I'm not a fan of the tariffs. But to play devil's advocate here, weren't the predictions from a couple months ago arguing higher prices and inflation, coupled with economic downturn? Meaning, the predictions already had factored in slower growth in the economy. Or are the newest predictions that the economic growth will slow EVEN MORE than was predicted a couple months ago?

I think you have that right. The doom and gloom predictions have been tempered to just gloom.

I think the difference maker is the assumption that the reciprocal tariffs will not be reinstated after the 90 days which is certain for the big dog, China.

MSNBC Shocked Army’s 250th Birthday Lacked 'Tense' or 'Dark, Malevolent Energy'

    https://townhall.com/tipsheet/saraharnold/2025/06/15/msnbc-cant-believe-armys-250th-birthday-isnt-tense-and-doesnt-have-dark-malevolent-energy-n2658824

    “It’s not dark, it’s not tense, it’s not amped up… it’s different,”

“I’m just surprised at the number of the people at the front of the parade who were watching, cheering and then would come and ask to take a selfie,” MSNBC’s Ali Velshi said. “This is a very different mood here. People seem to be going out of their way to say that they’re here to celebrate the Army’s 250th birthday.”

Velshi appeared appalled that the event honored American troops who had sacrificed everything to fight for the United States.

Not Even Hiding It: 148 Democrats Go Against Barring Non-Citizens from Voting

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/not-even-hiding-it-148-democrats-go-against-barring-non-citizens-from-voting/ar-AA1GLfTm

Despite an overwhelming majority of House Democrats opposing the measure, the House on Tuesday moved to overturn a law in Washington, D.C., that allows non-citizens to vote in local elections.

The bill passed 266-148, according to Fox News. One Democrat voted “present,” while 56 supported the bill.

House Republicans have tried before to overturn the D.C. law, but both times the Democrat-dominated Senate blocked the measure from passing, according to The Washington Post. The Senate now has a Republican majority.

“The right to vote is a defining privilege of American citizenship,” Rep. James Comer, a Republican from Kentucky, said. “Diluting that right by extending it to non-citizens — whether here legally or illegally — undermines the voice of D.C. residents.”

US not the only place having immigration-related cultural issues

    https://www.spiked-online.com/2025/06/13/ballymena-may-be-a-taste-of-things-to-come/

Losing control of your borders and then expecting impoverished communities to pick up the slack. Imposing mass migration on a public that never asked for it. A multicultural state that sacralises difference over unity, and segregation over integration. A political and media class that has covered up horrific crimes committed by members of certain minority groups, for fear of how those supposedly bigoted whites will react. If you wanted to stir up ethnic conflict, if you wanted to burnish the hateful agendas of the hard right, you’d struggle to find a better playbook than this.

The Army does drill? Anyway, they mostly seem to be "moving in formation" rather than "marching". You wouldn't generally expect to be full-on marching except where the VIP section is, when you would be expecting to salute/present arms. And, this is also clearly not a "display your fealty to the Ruler" type of event. Where one might expect, say in NK, that anyone out of step would be punished. It was a celebration of the Army, not Trump.

At least one 20-something did the right thing and paid off her student loans, despite it being a struggle

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/careersandeducation/i-pay-2-800-every-month-toward-my-student-loans-although-i-only-have-200-left-each-week-to-spend-i-ll-be-debt-free-this-year/ar-AA1GKbLf

As a college graduate walking the stage in 2023, I crossed the invisible threshold into what everyone calls "the real world."

I said goodbye to the friends I had spent every moment of the past four years with and welcomed my new best friend, student loan debt.

Living in the beautiful coastal town of Newport, Rhode Island, during college was the best experience of my life thus far, yet the worst thing for my bank account. I didn't bat an eye, dropping $20 every weekend to see a cover band, $15 to Uber downtown, and $16 for a salted caramel espresso martini.

With a one-year grace period after graduating, I thought I had time to build up my bank account to start paying off the weight of debt on my shoulders. Yet, little did I know that the interest still grew while I was adjusting to adulting.

I knew I had to make drastic decisions — and fast.

One day, I logged into my account and saw that I owed $3,000 more than my original balance. It sent me into a spiral. I cried thinking I'd be in debt forever and would never be able to go on vacations or buy a new car.

As an English major, I was unfamiliar with economics and how interest rates worked.

Fortunately, my parents were willing to let me live at home after graduating to get my feet on the ground. Moving back home under the same roof as my parents after years of freedom was far from my definition of fun, but it was ultimately the right move financially.

With help from my boyfriend, I realized that minimum payments were not the answer to escaping rising interest rates and quickly becoming debt-free. I decided to devote about 80% of my monthly income, totaling $2,800, toward student loans, sometimes leaving me with only $200 to spend in a week.

If my calculations prove to be correct, I will officially be debt-free in September.

What I originally thought would take 30 years to pay off is taking only two, which I am extremely proud of. Pushing through the stress and many tears was worth it, as I will now cross the threshold into financial freedom.

The majority of documented tradesmen make in excess of average income across the country. The ones that don't are not working full-time. Pipelayers in DC metro average $80k. I recently worked for a company that when we put together the benefits package, we handed out 65 copies in Spanish and 4 in English. Only 3 people were interested in benefits if they were required to contribute any amount.

It was a huge issue and the company's only recourse was to offer no benefits and risk federal penalties or make it mandatory and lose workers to other company's that don't.

who reportedly impressed upon the president the essential role that immigrants (not all of them with proper documentation, it seems) play on American farms.

They're not "immigrants"—they're illegal aliens. The farmers who hire them know full well they're breaking the law, and they don't give a fuck. And the few who aren't doing it for the same reasons Southern plantation owners kept Black slaves are doing it just to stay competitive—because you can’t compete while paying California minimum wage, plus benefits and everything else.

    Pro-liberty is leftist.

At this moment in time, from what I've seen, the Democratic Party has more respect for liberty, both personal and economic, than Trump's Republican Party. Maybe the GOP will get back to its roots after Trump is no longer the party's god emperor. I hope so, but doubt it.

It's you Trump defenders who are now in the business of redefining words. Take "emergency" for example. Used to mean something important. Now it's just whatever ho-hum excuse Trump says when he wants more power. Another would be "jurisdiction". You guys are standing on your heads trying to redefine that so you can strip people of their citizenship. Or "liberty" which, to you guys, means asking permission and obeying commands. You guys are just like the leftists you hate, redefining words to increase power and decrease freedom. You're both scum.

"ICE has generally focused its limited resources on arresting and removing migrants from the U.S. interior who pose public safety threats. Most interior removals are of immigrants who come into contact with the criminal justice system: 79 percent of ICE deportations from the interior in FY 2021-24 were of someone with a criminal conviction. And most removals from the interior are of migrants from Mexico or northern Central America."

Commemorative coins (at least those sold to collectors) are pretty profitable, I think. I think quarters still have a positive seigniorage, even when they change the backs more often. Minting money is typically (historically, at least) not a money loser for governments.

    https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2025/6/15/2327392/-Elon-Musk-has-an-idea-for-a-new-political-party-that-already-exists

About a week ago, as his breakup with President Donald Trump went supernova, multibillionaire Elon Musk hit on a favorite idea among political dilettantes: “A new political party is needed in America to represent the 80% in the middle!”

Musk is no centrist, and his highest-profile policy moves have been widely unpopular, so who knows what kind of party he’s imagining. But the general idea—a party that appeals to a so-called middle majority—has recently been promoted by TV-friendly businessman Mark Cuban, presidential also-ran Andrew Yang, and the enervate political organization No Labels.

But these elites are all missing the same crucial fact: A political party that focuses on broadly popular policies already exists.

    It’s the Democratic Party.

The story as Sarc told it, was that his ex-wife really loved horses. They were her favorite thing. One day she had somehow pissed him off, so he fed her horse meat without telling her what it was while she was eating it.

                    2. Eeyore   6 hours ago

                      That is mean.

Is feeding vegetarians meat without their consent assault or poisoning or both?

                    3. Jefferson Paul   5 hours ago

ML, if I had to guess, Sarc was lying about feeding her horsemeat. I don't doubt that he would stoop that low, but I do doubt that he had horsemeat just lying around in order to effect this revenge.

You can't readily buy it in US markets. Easiest option is to buy your own horse for the purpose of butchering it.

I read this as aromatic and thought it was some kind of attraction to stinky people or something new that needed attention. Then I caught the mistake. A-Romantic.

First line in the website after the 'who we are' blurb.

        How Can I Get Involved?

But aren't you A-Romantic? Obviously the answer is - you can't!

Rep. Becca Balint (D-Vt.) has come under fire for suggesting President Trump’s immigration crackdown will leave Vermonters without “anyone around to wipe our a–es.”

The congresswoman made the outrageous claim — which she herself called “crude” — during a town hall in Newport, Vt., last week, in response to a question about US immigration policy.

“Our economy is completely bound up in immigration and migrant labor,” Balint told her constituents. “We have to come to a place in Congress where it is no longer a political issue, but we see it as an existential issue for the country.”

“If we don’t have avenues for people to come here legally to work or to build a home here, I’m going to be really crude right now — we’re not going to have anybody around to wipe our a–es because we don’t have enough people in our country now to fill the jobs that we have.”

This ICE pause must be Trump's 4D chess in action. He actually wants to compromise on some kind of amnesty for all working illegal immigrants, something no Democrat has been able to do, and I believe the last such successful amnesty program was back in Sir Ronald's day.

Yeah, that's the ticket! Trump knows his tariffs have screwed any hope of getting anything done after the 2026 elections swing Congress Democratic, he doesn't give a shit about Vance or Rubio in 2028, so an amnesty for illegal immigrants is his best shot at a legacy.

And inflation is lower now than it has been in years. And the government collected nearly $70 billion in tariff revenue. So, your dreams of tariffs destroying the economy seem unlikely to come true. Dumb Ass.

Inflation is a matter of money supply which raises prices, but price rise alone is not inflation.

You must have missed that memo. Every time anyone says tariffs will cause inflation, the other Trumpies can be guaranteed to shout INFLATION IS A MONEY SUPPLY INCREASE!!!

Anyone who thinks raising taxes does not raise prices is as economically ignorant as Trump.

I didn't miss that memo. Tariffs are just another tax. That isn't going to do anything to the economy any other taxes do. If you were not such a dishonest dipshit, you would put two and two together and understand the implications of your own points.

IOWs if you weren't such a brain-dead TDS-addled pile of shit, you'd admit Trump lowered taxes his last term of office, and if the tariffs are a negotiating tool, the increases here might well be temporary.
              But that would require:
              1) Honesty
              2) Intelligence
Not a snowball's chance in hell.

Bzzzzt! Nice playing. But try thinking next time.

If the tariffs are a negotiating tool, that means they can be lowered below the point at which they block imports and revive US manufacturing. It also lowers them below the point at which they can generate enough revenue to replace the income tax.

                SGT 1, Sevo -1

If the tariffs are temporary, they also won't block imports or raise revenue to replace the income tax.

That you don't know Eonomics is clear from the generality of your statements. Raising taxes can lower prices too. Are you talking corporate or personal, for example. The first things to go are luxury items and other sumptuary products. So if higher taxes limit my luxury spending I am now looking at the best buy in what is more essential and that can cause lower prices. A producer will recover by quantity what a cut in prices does to consumer spending.
This is how all things introduced like computers and even cars got to be affordable.

I still find it funny STG avoided the study showing inflation is higher in blue states. Almost as if it is driven by regulatory and monetary policies, especially on energy, and not tariffs.

Changing the subject, strawmanning, sounds like you're channeling sarc.

Prices can rise from lots of causes, not just Trump's tariffs, which raise prices universally in addition to whatever shenanigans blue states are up to.

It's funny how all Trumpies seem to have no sense of humor. They've got that in common with the lefty statists, which just proves that right == left for the fanatics.

To show how stupid this person truly is Estimates are that in a lifetime we meet about 80 000 people . Now how my do we know to be Trumpies, how many can we tell are humorless and how many are knowably left or right. And the killer point to show how Stupid this poster is, how many percentage wise would cover all the traits stupid poster bases his assessment on.

My rough math says it can hardly break 5% at tops. So stupid hames 2 mistakes

        1) the knowable candidates in his lifetime are less than .000001 % if US population and the remaining about which he doesn't know at all is over 99%.

Now, I do know that Stupid Government Tricks is a fool, Iknow that on the empirical basis he refuses to use 🙂

Upon finding and searching Boelter’s car, police recovered a stash of papers and a notebook that reportedly lists about 70 potential targets. These included numerous prominent Democratic politicians in Minnesota, including U.S. Senator Tina Smith and Representatives Ilhan Omar, Kelly Morrison, and Angie Craig. Other targets included politicians from neighboring states, civic and business leaders, and Planned Parenthood centers. Police also said some of the documents indicated that Boelter may have been planning to target the anti-Trump “No Kings” protests that took place on Saturday.
    ...
Boelter and his wife, Jenny, appeared to run a private security company. They also appeared to lead a Christian nonprofit called Revoformation Ministries, as well as a company called Red Lion Group that claimed to create jobs for people in the Democratic Republic of Congo. A friend of Boelter’s told the Times he voted for Donald Trump in the 2024 election and was particularly opposed to abortion.

Boelter, a self-described security professional, was a political appointee on a state workforce development board. Records show that Hoffman was on the same 60-member board, but it is unclear whether Boelter and Hoffman knew each other.

According to state records, Boelter was first appointed to the board in 2016 by then-Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton and reappointed in 2019 by current Governor Tim Walz, a Democrat, for a four-year term until 2023.

That was during an MSNBC interview...

"Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., is under fire for her statement to Joy Reid on MSNBC explaining why Luigi Mangione allegedly murdered UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Warren explained that this was a “warning ” that “you can only push people so far.” After a public outcry, Warren walked back her statement. Yet, the statement captures the growing radicalism on the left, particularly among anti-capitalist, Democratic Socialists, and other groups. It is also notable how many of the same political and media figures who were apoplectic and unrelenting over the false claim about Trump’s “fine people on both sides” statement are largely disinterested in this and other extreme comments on the left.

If you think sympathy for the devil in Luigi Mangione is confined to the fever swamps of Reddit, consider comments by Sen. Elizabeth Warren. Asked Tuesday about those celebrating the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, the Massachusetts Democrat called it a “warning.”

The wise Native-American Warren's responses juxtapose to those of her fellow Democrat...

"Fetterman criticized those praising Mangione in comments to NBC News’s Sahil Kapur.

“He’s the a--hole that’s going to die in prison. Congratulations if you want to celebrate that. A sewer is going to sewer. That’s what social media is about this. And I don’t know why the media wants to turn that into a story, just with these trolls saying these kinds of things anonymously like that,” Fetterman said, according to Kapur.

“I don’t know why that’s news. Remember, he has two children that are going to grow up without their father… It’s vile," he added.

            https://thehill.com/opinion/healthcare/5046690-murder-is-bad/

On Sunday afternoon, Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), a seemingly reasonable member of the Democratic Party, sat down in front of his phone and recorded a two-minute video for his million followers on X. “I know it’s uncomfortable for political leaders to wade into the conversation that’s happening in this country in the aftermath of the murder of the United Health CEO,” he wrote. “But we need to listen to what people are feeling. And act.”

He said that “political leaders need to be part of this conversation” after the murder of Brian Thompson, the UnitedHealthcare CEO, on Dec. 4 on a New York City street, execution-style, by a young Ivy League graduate from a wealthy Maryland family. Murphy went on to rail against a “health care industry that mostly doesn’t give a s— about people and only cares about profits.”

Said Murphy: “Murder is never justified. It isn’t. But if this country’s leaders don’t pay attention to the conversation happening right now this weekend, that is a mistake.”

That construction was not unique to Murphy. “Violence is never the answer, but people can be pushed only so far,” Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) told HuffPost. “This is a warning that if you push people hard enough, they lose faith in the ability of their government to make change.”

“Shooting somebody in the back is totally unacceptable, but what I think has happened in the last few months is what you have seen rising up is people’s anger at a health insurance industry which denies people the health care that they desperately need,” said Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) on “Meet the Press.”

It’s all the same purposeful vacillation. Murder is never justified, but. Violence is never the answer, but. Shooting somebody is unacceptable, but …

Just repeating the cliche claims of leftard self-entitlement to anything they want. [WE] have a right to invade! [WE] have a right to healthcare! [WE] have a right to more pay! [WE] have a right to STEAL!

Defending the Nation against invasion, defending Individual Liberty and ensuring Justice for all gets in the way of our [WE] Liberty to TAKE, break-in and SQUAT-on what-ever [WE] want claims.

The Steelers have been playing Renegade in stadium during a commercial break in the 4th quarter since the early 2000s. It's quite the spectacle to see, with the entire stadium going nuts as soon as they hear the song intro beginning. The stats show it's been rather effective for the Steelers defense, getting a sack, turnover, or 3 and out in the ensuing drive.

That alone makes Styx awesome to me. But I like their music too.

Ulbricht's mother's last name is Albricht?

    Liberals are mentally ill

    https://sfstandard.com/2025/06/14/luigi-mangione-musical-theater-tenderloin/

“He’s a folk hero. He’s also hot,” said an attendee named Tom. “I mean, the bondage-y thing works too,” he added, referring to the viral image of Mangione’s shackled legs and stylish footwear.

Completely insane. Reopen the asylums please.

Fans Yelp-bombed the Pennsylvania McDonald’s where he was apprehended

      Broken theater kids.

He wanted to get caught. He had the evidence with him. Why you would punish fast food workers for playing along with the plot, outside pure narcissistic pathology, is beyond me.

It's like a giant, much more lame, real life reenactment/remake of Natural Born Killers.

What if there was a big dumb parade and no one cared?

It would reveal how absurd the handwringing and histrionics of the Narrativists doomsaying futures of fascism and authoritarianism were leading up to it.

Compare to military parades of actual totalitarian regimes like China and N. Korea, where attendance is noted and the applause is thunderous.

The suspect is Vance Boelter, a 57-year-old man.

And immediately, before anyone has a chance to be appalled at murder, he’s turned into a political volleyball for opposing sides trying to spike each other. No time to measure a response, immediately people feel compelled to”win.”

Compare to the Waukesha parade killer who media refused to assign motive when it was clearly racial and promptly memory holed the entire incident.

I read that it was a red SUV that was the parade killer. Are you telling me there was a driver of that red SUV? That's a bit far fetched!

Matt Yglesias writes that California's high-speed rail project should be scrapped. He's not wrong.

This is incomplete. What did he say about it at the time? Since it's turning out exactly as everyone knew it would there is no justification for any change in opinion.
