Joe Pardons Hunter
Plus: Media figures and politicians react to the news, Donald Trump appoints Kash Patel to head the FBI, and more...

Pardon me boy: President Joe Biden has issued a blanket pardon to his son, Hunter Biden, for all offenses Hunter has committed or may have committed from January 1, 2014, through yesterday. Said pardon is "full and unconditional," and pertains to any alleged criminal wrongdoing. Hunter Biden is off the hook for tax fraud and for improperly procuring a firearm while addicted to drugs; he is also protected from any future inquiry into alleged influence peddling.
This total immunity represents a complete and utter betrayal of a campaign promise. When he ran for reelection, Biden told the public in no uncertain terms that a presidential pardon was off the table. He also said, unambiguously, that he "will accept the outcome of this case and will continue to respect the judicial process."
Reporters frequently asked White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre about this possibility, and she always affirmed Biden's position that no pardon would be offered.

In his statement, Biden attempted to justify the pardon on the grounds that "no reasonable person who looks at the facts of Hunter's cases can reach any other conclusion than Hunter was singled out only because he is my son." In terms of the gun conviction, there's some truth to that. As Reason's Jacob Sullum has argued, the statute that Hunter violated is "widely flouted, haphazardly enforced, and constitutionally dubious." The tax fraud issue is another matter; such charges are "routinely brought against people who are not political targets," argues The Atlantic's Jonathan Chait.
More seriously, the presidential pardon is so robust that it offers Hunter Biden protection from as yet unproven allegations of influence peddling on behalf of foreign business interests. An earlier attempt to grant Hunter such protection in exchange for pleading guilty on tax-related offenses collapsed after a federal judge balked at the degree of immunity being conferred on him.
There's no sugarcoating what the elder Biden has done: He has issued what may well be remembered as the most disreputable presidential pardon in the U.S. history, and he has done it at a time when his party is attempting to make the argument that President-elect Donald Trump is a unique and pernicious threat to democracy, law and order, and American political norms.
"In trying to break Hunter, they've tried to break me—and there's no reason to believe it will stop here," wrote Biden in his statement. "Enough is enough."
Reactions to the pardon have not been favorable to Biden—even from his own party. Colorado Gov. Jared Polis castigated Biden for putting "family ahead of country."
While as a father I certainly understand President @JoeBiden's natural desire to help his son by pardoning him, I am disappointed that he put his family ahead of the country. This is a bad precedent that could be abused by later Presidents and will sadly tarnish his reputation.…

Election analyst Nate Silver derided Biden as a "selfish and senile old man."
A selfish and senile old man.

Liberal pundit Matt Yglesias called on Democrats to demand a constitutional amendment to limit the pardon powers of the president.
Democrats with half a brain should denounce this Biden move and call for a constitutional amendment placing checks on the pardon power which has been abused, over and over and over again by presidents of both parties. https://t.co/EbNnWiKrUQ

Meanwhile, Politico succumbed to a familiar trope and accused Republicans of pouncing on the news:

Meanwhile, at the FBI: In other news, Trump has nominated Kash Patel as director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. In his statement announcing the pick, Trump hailed Patel as an "America First fighter who has spent his career exposing corruption, defending Justice, and protecting the American people." Trump also noted Patel's "pivotal role in uncovering the Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax."
In 2016, Patel was working as an aide to House Intelligence Committee Chair Devin Nunes (R–Calif.). Patel is alleged to have authored a memo accusing the FBI of unjustly surveilling Carter Page, a Trump campaign aide, on suspicion that he was a Russian asset. Page was an important figure in the national intelligence apparatus's efforts to tar the Trump campaign as complicit in Russian attempts to influence the 2016 election.
The FBI ultimately produced no proof that Page was actually a Russian spy. Moreover, a 2019 inspector general report regarding the surveillance of Page concluded that the FBI had committed no fewer than 17 serious performance failures relating to the warrants obtained under FISA. Basically, the FBI had every reason not to believe that Page was a Russian spy but nevertheless sought a FISA warrant to surveil him and had it reauthorized three times.
Even so, the inspector general's report prompted victory laps from the likes of former FBI Director James Comey and then-Director Andrew McCabe. The agency itself released a statement celebrating that the report "does not impugn the FBI's institutional integrity. It doesn't doubt—or propose any changes to—the FBI's mission or our core values. It doesn't criticize—or even question—the brand that this organization has earned over 111 years."
Patel was less impressed with the agency's performance, and has subsequently called on the FBI to eliminate redundant intelligence gathering functions while concentrating on fighting crime.
Kash Patel: "I'd shut down the FBI Hoover Building on day one and reopen it the next day as a museum of the Deep State. Then, I'd take the 7,000 employees that work in that building and send them across America to chase down criminals. Go be cops. You're cops—go be cops."

Media commentators have slammed Patel as a Trump loyalist, and there is little doubt that he fits the bill. And while it's refreshing for a potential FBI director to be skeptical of the agency's ever-expanding mission creep, he has also threatened to unleash the power of the government against the president-elect's critics, which would be an obvious abuse of power.

Joe Pardons Hunter
I knew Biden was a libertarian at heart.
"In trying to break Hunter, they've tried to break me—and there's no reason to believe it will stop here," wrote Biden in his statement.
Is this a surreptitious confession by the Big Guy?
Will he pardon himself for Burisma in the last days of January?
With Joe backdating it to 2014, every congressman who voted for Trump's first impeachment has some apologizing to do.
“This total immunity represents a complete and utter betrayal of a campaign promise.”
Anyone that believed this promise should retire from journalism in shame.
No one believed it. Those who parroted it are LIARS; not believers who got fooled.
Nearly 500 comments in 8 hours gleefully trashing team blue while justifying same behaviour from team red.
You get the government you deserve.
Refuted.
Libertarians would repeal the laws Hunter was convicted or accused of violating.
Libertarians would abolish the income tax.
Libertarians would legalize the cocaine Hunter was accused of snorting.
Libertarians would not require Hunter to disclose drug use nor interfere with his right to purchase a firearm because he used drugs that libertarians would legalize. Alcohol is involved in gun violence more than cocaine, and any violence involving cocaine is due to prohibition and not being able to solve disputes in courts of law.
Libertarians would repeal laws interfering with the purchase of a firearm or requiring one to inform or get permission from the government to purchase a firearm, except for someone convicted of a violent crime, which Hunter was not.
Nothing of which Hunter was convicted or charged would be illegal in a libertarian society.
The worst thing about Joe pardoning Hunter is that it deprived Trump of the opportunity to pardon him. If the Donald had been able to, and pardoned Hunter, he would have defeated the accusations that he is an authoritarian or fascist.
Would Libertarians repeal laws regarding foreign influence peddling and corruption by top-level officials of the executive branch? Or at the very least, governing how much those elected officials can personally benefit from such activities by their direct family members?
If Joe is simply "being libertarian" about this, then why only pardon his own son including for crimes which there seems to be some evidence that part of Hunter's earnings were "kicked up" into the accounts of the (at the time) sitting VP and later President of the US? Why not grant blanket clemency or even clear the records of the hundreds of thousands of non-violent offenders who were convicted and imprisoned under the "Biden Crime Bill" of 1994, or at least those who were directly affected by the cocaine sentencing disparity which Biden himself campaigned against in 2020 after more than 2 decades of having boasted about and campaigned on his role in authoring?
To be fair, that was a campaign promise, having not won the campaign, he is not beholden to it.
Biden would have violated it, two years in after the midterms, though.
Indeed. It is amusing seeing some journalists perform acts of rage and all...but come the fuck on. Who did not see this coming?
The same shitlickers who swore they had no idea Biden was senile before his career-ending debate.
When I 'ctrl+f "pardo"' the 'No Kings Act', I get zero results. Can we at least get a swift kick to whatever genitals they may have to any congresscritter who supports/supported it?
Fatass Donnie had said he was going after his political enemies. Hunter no doubt evaded taxes but that is small compared to the crimes of Trump and OJ - which were both lawyered away.
Donnie should have gone to prison long ago with his criminal partners like Cohen and the accountant. As well as Epstein.
Hunter is a tax cheat but in comparison a Boy Scout. Unless you’re still fixed on his penis.
Just shut the fuck up. Your shtick is sad and tiresome.
That might be a parody commenter.
Doesn’t explain how and why he got his original account permanently banned.
You sound almost as kooky and retarded as the shit-eating squirrel and Hank.
The Epstein reference shows what a sheep you really are.
Buttplug IS his own Epstein reference. Ask him why he has the "2" in his name now.
Donnie should have gone to prison long ago with his criminal partners like Cohen and the accountant.
Cohen aside, for what?
Also, when Patel releases the Epstein list, what are you going to do with your narrative. Keep clinging to it like you did with the Steele Report?
Would you expect anything less out of Turd?
For defying Shrike’s master, Soros.
Hey shrike. A good book for you by one of the ex good reason writers.

Not a Democrat.
Yes, a pedophile but not a Democrat.
An unmitigated asshole, regardless.
turd, the ass-clown of the commentariat, lies; it’s all he ever does. turd is a kiddie diddler, and a pathological liar, entirely too stupid to remember which lies he posted even minutes ago, and also too stupid to understand we all know he’s a liar.
If anything he posts isn’t a lie, it’s totally accidental.
turd lies; it’s what he does. turd is a lying pile of lefty shit.
Sad, desperate, child raping cunt. You’re beyond done here.
That first impeachment was still legit because Trump was trying to blackmail Ukraine into launching an investigation. If Trump thought that Biden had committed a crime, he could have just said so. He's never held his tongue before.
I can barely restrain myself, still eagerly awaiting sarc's "Trump did it first with Sheriff Arpaio" faux-sarcastic anti-excuse for Biden pardoning his son, complete with ignoring its 11 year span. A good prelude to his more general "Republicans did it first" about-face in 7 weeks. It's going to be glorious.
That fac that Biden issued a blanket pardon shows he is covering his tracks
The good news is that it’s another thing that hurts the democrats and will chip away support from Democrat leaning independents.
I hope the media endlessly defends the pardon. One more thing to cripple them in the midterms.
There were no pardons before Trump. Great point.
One.
Awww, ain't that cute, you edited your comment.
SNL ran the Jimmy Carter campaign ad (Ford speech pardoning Nixon) and the Ford Campaign ad (Carter amnesty for draft dodgers speech)
And your point, Hank?
That he thinks it's currently some time in 1978 not 1974.
He's getting more modern.
Nixon was never accused of accepting bribes from foreign oligarchs to enrich himself and his family. He was never charged with or convicted of any crime. Really no comparison.
Nixon looks like an alter boy compared to old "Robert L. Peters" or "Pedo Pete" as his kid's called him.
How witty.
His original comment complimented Jesse on being a great mentor. I don't know why he thought he needed something more apropos; maybe seven weeks is getting too close to his worst nightmare.
I feel honored.
Then really depressed. I have never been able to educate my worst students like sarc.
I also didn't respond to him for a week, so he is looking for a fix.
For an attention whore like Sarc that's worse than a beat down. Why must you be so cruel, Jesse?
Actually wanted to see if he would notice that everyone else here thinks he is a broken lying hypocritical shit weasel without as well. He seems to think you were all his best friends until I criticized him.
Lol. Sarc is incapable of criticizing a Democrat. 11 years. All crimes known or unknown. Magically starting in 2014 when Biden was selling WH access.
I hope they realize with the pardon that Hunter can't plead the 5th anymore and bring the Biden family in front of committees, mostly hunter, exposing the crimes he can no longer behind the 5th for.
Sarc will continue to believe in:
1.5B to Alex Jones
Every J6 conviction
All the Trump novel lawfare.
And continue to defend:
Any prosecution of a Democrat of deep state bureaucrats.
Do the government people in charge of the contract you work on know that they pay you to post on Reason all day?
You admit you have no job, then.
And he’s envious of those who do have a job.
He probably got fired again. He rages when that happens.
I see you don't mind that Jesse's a raging hypocrite who brags about making lots of money as a do-nothing government contractor who gets paid to sit around and bitch about immigrants on welfare all day long.
"5 minutes ago" -- I wonder what the pre-edit version said.
It was filled with ideas™ .
You've been on this site during working hours a lot longer than i have. Usually every day too.
Do nothing? Bosses would be surprised at that.
And again, I don't charge the government anything buddy.
Your lies and hypocrisy are amusing though.
As far as pitching about immigrants. You again fail here as it is the crime and government spending on them. Both of which you support like the good leftist you are. Lol.
Seethe harder. You lost big.
He lost "bigly."
This is hilarious to me that you've settled on this narrative. I charge zero dollars to the government lol.
You've admitted you've had work in government buildings and we're on government benefits. Quite the hypocrite aren't you?
I posted this before 8am buddy. Time zones are difficult. I know. You've been on far more during working hours day in and day out.
Is your only principle hypocrisy?
Sarc lives off the taxpayers. He’s a drunken hobo, getting blackout drunk every day courtesy of democrat largesse.
Yes. Contempt of Congress, lying to investigators, etc. today or in the future is not covered. And without a 5th amendment standing, he might yet be forced to reveal Joe's dealings.
Hunter Biden Faces Potential 5th Amendment Headache After Pardon
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/hunter-biden-faces-potential-5th-amendment-headache-after-pardon/ar-AA1v7uZW
Hunter Biden would have to answer questions about his business interests if called before Congress, a criminal defense lawyer has said.
Kevin Adams said that President Joe Biden's decision to pardon his son now clears the way for Congress to call Hunter as a witness. Newsweek sought email comment from Hunter Biden's attorney on Monday.
Adams was reacting to the president's announcement on Sunday that he had pardoned Hunter, who was awaiting sentencing on tax evasion and gun charges. It also pardons Hunter for any crimes he may have committed from January 1, 2014 through December 1, 2024—crucial years in prosecutors' investigation into foreign lobbying and tax evasion
"I am sorry, I do not recall."
"There were no pardons before Trump. Great point."
Counter-point and cunter-point to the Hunter-point!
Trump pardoned his son-in-law’s father, Charles Kushner, for tax evasion and other crimes.
Let He who is without sin, cast the first stone!
Republicans did shit first, so shit is OK for Demon-Craps to do shit!
https://fortune.com/2024/11/30/trump-charles-kushner-pardon-jared-ivanka-us-ambassador-france/ Pardoned criminals for high political orifices; THAT'S the way ye do shit!!!!
Who else pardoned someone for crimes unknown?
This is literally what Biden did with Hunter.
https://www.americanbar.org/advocacy/governmental_legislative_work/publications/washingtonletter/dec-2020-wl/legal-fact-check-pardons-1220wl/
From there...
The legal record is also clear that a president can pardon for a presumptive crime, like what then-President Gerald Ford did with his predecessor Richard Nixon on Sept. 8, 1974. In the aftermath of Watergate, Ford gave Nixon, who resigned from the presidency a month earlier, an “absolute pardon for all offenses against the United States which he, Richard Nixon, has committed or may have committed or taken part in during the period from Jan. 20, 1969 through Aug. 9, 1974.”
PS, AI (my fave is "Perplexity") makes stuff like this easy to find.
How about that.
Albeit a comparison that favors the idea that the Bidens are corrupt.
...for all offenses Hunter has committed or may have committed from January 1, 2014, through yesterday.
Geez, how many more laptops are floating around out there.
Observe that nothing horrifies a Christian National Socialist more than some victimless action failing to land the actor on the gallows on in a dungeon.
So selling the office of vice president is a victimless crime?
Now do your President Trumps loan case where even the loaners were satisfied - we’ll wait but not long bc you won’t.
"Christian National Socialist"
As I keep pointing out, they were hammer worshipping neo-pagans just like you, Hankel.
When he ran for reelection, Biden told the public in no uncertain terms that a presidential pardon was off the table.
To be fair, he doesn't remember saying that.
“Just a nice old man,” doing something nice for his son.
Democrats are dancing on their own grave.
Maybe he mixed his son up with the turkey.
There is a strong family resemblance. Ever seen a tom strutting around, flashing his feathers for the ladies, gobbling away unintelligibly?
Cocaine Turkey
+1
Heh. Made me think of a slasher film out there about a crazed demonic turkey, Thankskilling.
He was reading from a teleprompter. He can't be held responsible for some shit some other guy wrote.
"...When he ran for reelection, Biden told the public in no uncertain terms that a presidential pardon was off the table..."
turd will be along soon to tell us he was misquoted or some other lie.
And nice first line, by the way. Not often Chumby gets pre-empted that easily. I eagerly await his ripostes too.
Pardon me boy
Makes no sense. Hunter isn’t black.
But he fulfilled his role as a shoeshine boy, the best he could do.
Was he both humble and lovable?
Think of it in an Irish accent.
He's not a Muslim invader eighter!
Ohhh the real Irish accent, not who the wef has been shoving in there
...no reasonable person who looks at the facts of Hunter's cases can reach any other conclusion than Hunter was singled out only because he is my son.
Alvin Bragg has left the chat.
...the statute that Hunter violated is "widely flouted, haphazardly enforced, and constitutionally dubious."
Agreed. The Second Amendment is for all Americans, even those selling access and kicking back money to corrupt presidents.
The gun paperwork charge is a bad law that should be revoked. But the solution to that is not to pardon one well-connected individual in one case.
I’m gonna laugh if lawyers start using this pardon to argue that obviously that law should be considered dead letter.
Especially when the DoJ conspired with Hunter & Joe to run out the clock on the more serious charges.
He has issued what may well be remembered as the most disreputable presidential pardon in the U.S. history...
I certain hope this doesn't tarnish the reputation of the greatest president since George Washington.
George Washington is chopped liver compared to Joe Brandon.
It will have no effect on Joe's reputation.
Oh yeah, where are those historians who listed Biden as one of America’s top 5 presidents? I want to hear more from them.
Just starting to regret their, Obama is in the top 3?
Those "historians" who ranked Brandon so high also adjusted the ranking of George W. Bush to be middle of the pack, if I recall correctly.
During W's administration they had him ranked (correctly, IMO) near the bottom, but somehow 15 or so years later, he became a better president. I guess if your preferred candidate, Kamala, is going to campaign on getting the endorsement of the Cheney's and other Bushpigs, you can't be rating the president they all worked for as terrible.
The Left will re-write this as the ‘noble act of a father’. I promise!
They are already doing the 'Republicans Pounce' meme.
"Republicans pounce on Biden pardoning his son, Hunter"
https://x.com/politico/status/1863408461905547276
They did the meme!
...his party is attempting to make the argument that President-elect Donald Trump is a unique and pernicious threat to democracy, law and order, and American political norms.
Don't worry. They'll still be making that argument to their shrinking audiences.
Robby is still campaigning for Harris.
There's still hope for 2028.
SOAVE IS AS MAGA AS THEY COME.
HAIR FOR HARRIS ; Soave maybe MAGA but his hair parts to the left.
Tbh, he pretty much hit everything he needed to here. A solid job from him this time.
In trying to break Hunter, they've tried to break me—and there's no reason to believe it will stop here...
Pretty sure it will stop there. Does anyone consider Biden worth the effort? Is he seen as head of the party anymore? Or even as the sitting president?
Does anyone consider Biden worth the effort?
If they can they will. Biden's corruption doesn't just reflect on him. It shows Dem institutions [Media, academia, NGOs] support corruption as long as it protects Team Blue, just as they protected Bill Clinton while pretending to oppose sexual harassment.
Up next:
Biden pardons his entire family in perpetuity, resigns, leaving us with Kamala for a few weeks. Gives Americans the finger in the way out.
he'll put some US boots on the ground in Ukraine, greenlight them to attack Russia, and maybe offer up some of our best weapons to be used to boot, then he will flip the double birds and do the above
Like pushing to arm Ukraine with nukes?
Who will Kamala pardon?
I'll start off with .. Joe Brandon!
Well I keep hearing that Trump can't pardon himself for all of the novel crimes floating around in Lawrence Tribe's fever dreams. There's no question that Joe himself is guilty of provable crimes with or without testimony from Hunter. Trump might be willing to pardon him but it's pretty clear that deals were cut when Joe passed the torch to Kamala. I honestly would not be surprised to see her become sitting president just long enough to get it done.
Yes, there's something fishy about this pardon 49 days early. Something's going to happen soon.
I agree, there are probably shenanigans (as outlined above) at play. At the same time, though, I could see Biden thinking he could kick the bucket any day now, and didn't want to risk waiting another month+ to issue the pardon.
Possibly he was hoping the holiday weekend would make this a non-story.
Then he picked the wrong day. Usually to make things like this into non-stories, they get released Friday afternoon.
Perhaps Biden isn't going to live that long so he needed to pardon Hunter sooner than later.
Or perhaps he's been dead for some time...
Anything about the fight Ohio started after?
Did Ohio State start it or did Michigan? It’s really kind of a moot point when it reaches a certain size anyway.
I'm from Ann Arbor. The Ohio thugs are guilty until proven innocent.
Given that it was in Columbus and UM planted their flag at the 50 yard line. It’s not the first time UM has done that shit to another Big Ten university. Those assholes did it at MSU a few years ago. UM seriously deserves sanctions for it.
Fuck UM.
You might be taking football games too seriously.
My god, on the fifty?! Don't they know that is hallowed grounds, didn't they do a land acknowledgement before the game?!
If the Wolverines want to show themselves to be unsportsmanlike and sadistic, I would have been inclined to let them. Unfortunately team sports have an honor culture, so the Buckeyes instead started a fight.
Baker Mayfield planted the Oklahoma flag in Columbus a few years back. Knowing nothing else about baker mayfield, he’s ok with me. Fuck Ohio state.
Go blue.
The wildest part was all the players who got pepper-sprayed by the security team.
Here's the thing--teams have been doing flag planting for a long time. It's just that now the losing team isn't going to stand for it and will start a fight over it.
Don't be surprised if the NCAA passes an ordinance of some kind for next season that hands down sanctions for flag planting. They aren't going to be tolerant of it if it constantly leads to fights between the teams--someone will eventually end up in the hospital, and the NCAA doesn't want the players being viewed as a bunch of low-impulse control thugs who can't win or lose with maturity.
"and the NCAA doesn't want the players being viewed as a bunch of low-impulse control thugs who can't win or lose with maturity."
And so the answer is to remove the opportunity for low impulse control thugs to demonstrate their proclivities? Natch!
This is like all the schools that are just basically outlawing anything that might lead to sex on campus in order to avoid all the rape courts.
The NCAA isn't going to tolerate persistent on-field brawls by a bunch of barely literate 250-300 pound athletes. If people want to watch that, there's always MMA. Why do you think David Stern came down so hard on Detroit and Indiana after the Malice at the Palace?
Because banning good players for life would hurt the league? And because that fight involved beating up the customer?
In my mind, banning celebration because they trigger others is wrong. Wrong when it's a Halloween costumes, wrong when it's Michigan winning and planting their flag. Get over it snowflakes or get off campus.
Where did I say anything about a lifetime ban? I said the NCAA won't tolerate something that consistently leads to brawls between the teams, no matter how funny we find it.
In my mind, banning celebration because they trigger others is wrong.
Morality has nothing to do with it. It's about whether they're going to tolerate constant team brawls or not. And I'm saying that they won't.
You didn't specifically say lifetime ban, but Ron Artest received a 80ish game suspension which would amount to a college lifetime ban.
And I'm not saying they will tolerate it but instead of going after the cause - violent emotional thugs - they are going to just treat the symptoms - celebrations. I'm against the latter, it's the same bullshit behavior I see at Ravens games. Steelers win and some assholes end up jumping some dude in a Steelers jersey because gotta protect the house.
I recall hearing about Tony Siragusa encouraging Rat Bird fans to jump Steelers fans in the restrooms at M&T back in the early 2000s.
Go Steelers!
Go back to Shitsburg!
Never played football did you?
Barely literate athletes can't memorize three binders full of plays and options.
Skilled and knowledgeable athletes can, though.
A singular pardon for the gun charge or the tax evasion, I could maybe look at as a "hell, its his son, and he knows the R's are out for blood, I would do the same for my son" situation. Id still make fun of the corrupt D's for it, but also, would get it.
...a blanket pardon for a 10 year span that happened to start around the time Hunter got placed on the board of a Ukrainian energy company, that Joe protected from prosecution by interfering with Ukrainian prosecutors...that is a bridge in another fucking galaxy of on the nose corruption.
I remember at the time of impeachment 1 thinking, "I mean, that might not have been an ideal phone call with zelensky, but it certainly doesn't merit impeachment". Now I think the proper order of operations would be to issue a full apology to Trump, issue a full retraction of the impeachment, and put on trial every Democrat that was involved in covering for the Bidens. As well as every intel official that signed that letter stating that the Hunter laptop story was "officially Russian disinformation", and the news networks that ran the propaganda for them
It is not so much a pardon, as a memo to all future investigations of any Biden, "nothing to see here, move along".
It is a no discovery, ever, on any case.
Yes, but it makes Hunter the prime witness in a whole lot of other DNC corrupt crony investigations now that he can no longer plead the Fifth against self-incrimination without getting some pretty stiff sentencing for contempt of Congress and the courts.
Yeah, right!
He can share a cell with Eric Holder.
Actually I might argue that it means Hunter can’t plead the 5th on any investigation into his father. So he can theoretically be subpoenaed and compelled to testify and can’t assert 5h amendment privilege, since his statements can’t be criminally used against him. Then if he lies, he’d be committing perjury, a new offense.
I don’t think it comes to it, I think any investigation into the Bidens’ corruption is going to be pushed aside. But that would be an interesting angle.
I'm hoping for at least one, just to rub the DNC's nose in letting a senile Joe get the last laugh for pushing him aside.
"I can't recall, I was smoking crack at the time" is just as good as the 5th and no perjury charge can break through that rock solid defense.

Ya, and with the fact that it seems all of the money laundering that happened went directly through hunter, it seems like the Biden family will now be set up for life with a fortune and multiple nice properties, safe from any scrutiny or prosecution as to how they got that money.
Because, you know, its very normal for a lifelong govt employee, who based on his documented salary, made somewhere around 200k per year, to have multiple million dollar+ properties, some of them beachfront. Everyone knows that making 200k per year for life sets you up to retire with 20 million dollars and multiple mansions.
Safe from prosecution only as long as he doesn't commit any new crimes ... such as contempt of court for refusing to testify, or perjury for lying under oath.
Joe's brother is eyeball deep in this too. Joe will have to pardon him as well and he won't be able to use the recovering addict BS.
Hey, at least Joe only asked for 10 percent. That's a lot less than what the government takes out of my paycheck every two weeks.
Honestly I agree. I can understand a pardon for your son, even if he's a pretty big fuckup like Hunter, but a blanket pardon for a period of ten years for crimes unstated is unheard of as far as I know. It begs the question of how many other crimes Hunter might be guilty of during that period that such an expansive pardon was necessary. A pardon for the crimes he's already accused of would have been sufficient, one might think.
I honestly didn't know you could pardon someone from crimes unstated over an entire decade. I wonder if you can pardon someone for crimes they might commit in the future, too...
My guess is that the vagueness makes the blanket pardon not constitutional. Parsons come with, in general, admitting to the crimes. A trade of leniency for sunlight and acknowledgement of the crimes.
"but a blanket pardon for a period of ten years for crimes unstated is unheard of as far as I know."
Also, for the side that just shat their pants about SCOTUS immunity ruling, claiming it made Trump above the law...
With what Biden just did, what is to stop a president from going buck wild, being a dictator or whatever the left wants to hyperventilate about, doing full on unconstitutional things, and then on the last day of office step down and have his VP pardon him for:
"everything that did, didnt, or maybe took place for a period of, lets say, the last 20 years just to be safe"
How does this not set the precedent for *actually* allowing someone to be truly above the law, a dictator, or whatever.
The courts will say no one has "standing" to challenge the pardons.
I had that thought as well, but it is not a terribly well defined Presidential authority. Hence at least some of the outrage at the mere prospect of Trump pardoning himself. Nixon didn't, but he probably recognized he was in enough hot water that pushing the envelope was unwise and simply made a deal to step down in exchange for a pardon. I can't imagine Trump would trust the next in line to do that, and he probably shouldn't.
At the very least, it seems odd that a pardon can include unlisted crimes. I would have thought you'd have to actually specify what charges are being pardoned in order to do one at all. If it turned out that Hunter had killed dozens of hookers during that decade, he is now immune to that. I don't think Hunter killed dozens of hookers, you understand, but if he had it appears that Biden just pardoned him for it without even knowing it happened or was ever an accusation in the first place.
Just a really bizarre use of pardon authority. I can't say that it's unconstitutional, but at the very least it's suspicious and unethical. One thing is absolutely certain, and that is Democrats went after Trump for his pardoning of 'connected supporters' that they thought were guilty of crimes and it was Trump's way of avoiding accountability. Well, here we have Biden doing that exact thing since any 'influence peddling' involved Joe Biden, since Hunter had no other influence to peddle.
"If it turned out that Hunter had killed dozens of hookers during that decade, he is now immune to that. I don't think Hunter killed dozens of hookers, you understand,"
I think its much more plausible (and frankly, highly likely) that he received a lot of shady money we dont yet know about, avoided more taxes that we dont know about (though, good libertarian move there hunter, props), and importantly received shady money specifically because he is Joes son with the intent of some of that money going to Joe, and gave that money to Joe, paid his expenses, bought him houses, whatever.
There is little doubt Hunter committed a lot more crimes than we know about, simply because he was a crack head. Most of those probably weren't federal crimes, and some might have been. Who knows, he was (and probably still is) a crack head. He probably doesn't even know himself.
Also, in some fairness, I'm not entirely sure if killing a hooker is actually a federal crime so I guess he could still be tried for that? I'm...honestly not sure but it sounds right.
Maybe all of that does lead back to Joe Biden, but now we will probably never know so it's going into the same file as the JFK assassination and the Roswell crash.
If these were local and state crimes (as opposed to federal crimes), then Hunter is on the hook for them. Even a blanket presidential pardon cannot save him from that.
I'd shut down the FBI Hoover Building on day one and reopen it the next day as a museum of the Deep State. Then, I'd take the 7,000 employees that work in that building and send them across America to chase down criminals. Go be cops.
You had me then you lost me.
Should’ve just outright fired those 7,000 without severance.
All the BLM ACAB kids are suddenly sweating that the biggest cop organization in the country might be held accountable.
Just like Sarcasmic.
Hilarious to watch the Left defend the institutions they claim to hate.
Just shows you how they LIE LIE LIE and shouldn’t be listened to in any way.
For most of those 7000 employees, being made to do their described job outside the beltway might as well be a pink slip.
Well this should help the disgusting Biden family and allegations of corruption regarding the Ukraine.
Or will it?
https://www.newsweek.com/president-joe-biden-biden-pardon-tax-gun-case-congress-fifth-amendment-1994001
Is that about Hunter no longer being able to plead the Fifth's right against self-incrimination? Maybe Joe is continuing his revenge against the Obama machine and the rest of the DNC.
And yet, the pardon doesn’t really offend me in any reasonable way. It’s a plenary power of the President, indisputably constitutional. If you believe that there are politically driven prosecutions-which was definitely the case with Trump-then offering protection against the possibility of them is reasonable.
I wonder if Biden will pardon himself before he’s out of office. I certainly think Trump should pardon himself. This was so predictable that it doesn’t set off my outrage alarm. I’m just surprised he only went back to 2014, probably should have gone back to at least 2009.
Statute of limitation on most of his stuff is around 10 years
New York showed how to get around that.
The only part that confuses me is why it had to be for a decade for crimes both accused and unstated. That's a pretty expansive use of it.
I'm not surprised, not really, I'm just baffled why it wasn't a narrow pardon for the crimes Hunter was actually accused and/or convicted of. One might think that would have been sufficient.
I suppose it's just to cut the legs out from under any future investigations, but the optics aren't great. I suppose Biden doesn't give a fuck about that anymore since he's not going to run again and will probably be dead soon, which is probably the 'real' explanation.
At this point, yeah, Trump should just pardon himself on his last day in office. Democrats gave up the ghost on that one, not that anyone will remember in 4 years. Future Presidents should take note and do this going forward every time, just in case.
“Democrats gave up the ghost on that one, not that anyone will remember in 4 years.”
Democrats are so shameless I wouldn’t put it past them to pretend they don’t remember as soon as tomorrow.
Actually, the pardon for unspecified offenses is actually the justifiable part. If you legitimately think that your son is going to be the victim of a political witch-hunt by your successor, a blanket pardon for unspecified crimes is exactly what's necessary.
No, the key problem is, actually, that the pardon does not exclude the crimes Hunter was indicted for during the Biden Administration. Either those were politically-motivated prosecutions and Joe corruptly refused to fire the people responsible (because he placed his own political ambitions above both his duties to justice as President and his duties to his son as a father), or they were perfectly legitimate prosecutions (and Joe has corruptly used the power of his office to protect a criminal family member).
Actually, the pardon for unspecified offenses is actually the justifiable part. If you legitimately think that your son is going to be the victim of a political witch-hunt by your successor, a blanket pardon for unspecified crimes is exactly what's necessary.
Just to point it out, that is an absolute shit justification to grant blanket immunity over a decade for any and call federal crimes he may or may not have committed.
You aren't wrong that it seems that's the excuse, but one would need to acknowledge it's a shit excuse. The implication is he did break other federal laws, one's they probably don't even know about, and are just waving it all away because he might end up in jail and that would look bad for his dad. Even though his dad is out of office and will never hold public office again.
What reason would there be to 'go after' Hunter after Joe is gone? To hurt Democrats writ large? The same Democrats who couldn't wait to throw Joe under the bus as soon as his usefulness was gone? Not sure those dots connect.
In light of all the Trump prosecutions, it seems Trump needs to issue quite a few blanket pardons of everyone who's even tangentially related to him going back to the dawn of time. I would think that was a gross abuse of power too, for what it's worth, but I guess that's the new standard.
> > If you believe that there are politically driven prosecutions then offering protection against the possibility of them is reasonable.
Biden, as President, has the both the power and the duty to dismiss any AG, Deputy AG, US Attorney, or similar appointed official who he knows is corruptly engaging in politically--driven prosecutions or supervising such.
Accordingly, insofar as Biden's justifications for his use of the pardon power are true, Biden is morally unfit to be President for failing to dismiss those corrupt officials, and has been manifestly so since the day he learned of these prosecutions. He is also, to the exact same extent, a morally unfit father, for allowing those corrupt officials to prosecute his son.
Thus, the only possible defense of Joe Biden's moral fitness as both a President and a father is that the justifications given for the pardon are utter and complete falsehoods.
Of course, if the justifications for pardons are utter and complete falsehoods, the pardons are a deeply corrupt abuse of power and Joe Biden is morally unfit to be President.
Of course leftists have no problem with this kind of abuse of power so that fits. Now if he had pardoned him for a laundry list of specified crimes that would be bad but fine, this is just a grotesque abuse. Couple this with the DoJ pretending it cannot prosecute Presidents for any reason and you've just set the stage for a truly unaccountable Executive branch.
Media commentators have slammed Patel as a Trump loyalist...

Has he even called himself Trumps wingman yet?
If he does, he's going to have to battle Musk in a cage fight for the title of Trump's wingman.
It is a shame the Democrats can never find loyalist to hire.

Everyone see that actress freak out on Twitter over a fan edit of the movie poster? Claiming people are trying to destroy her identity?
Utterly unhinged.
it started there, then the bizarre press tour with her and Grande stroking each other, talking with that weird mental health soft voice therapy speak, and constantly crying.
If I was ever in need of a reminder that theater kids are lesser humans that are to be pitied/mocked, wicked gave it to me
Then they started claiming how queen liberating the movie is over the last 2 weeks.
I still am stunned that she seemed to think this movie was about her, specifically. She’s playing a character, she is Not that character, and I thought everyone was sane enough to make that separation. But apparently she thinks fans editing images of her character are attacking specifically her.
It’s actual insanity.
The bitch has a septum piercing, that's like the leading marker for someone who's fucked in the head.
Both she and Grande look gross as shit, too. Grande in particular is looking like a damn cadaver these days.
half side shaved haircut +/- dyed hair was a pretty reliable indicator, but the septum piercing has really moved in as the definitive marker.
Problem glasses also have a high correlation
Boy, she may want to stay away from the internet then because I can guarantee you there is some far more twisted shit than an edited movie poster out there. Lord help her if she ever comes across some of that shit, she'd probably kill herself.
Hell, there’s Rule 34 for starters.
I honestly don't know how much more exemplary of a/the cult mentality and behavior they could be. Anyone watching that and then turning around and deriding Scientology or Megachurch 'brainwashing' needs a swift blow to the head.
"Cult mentality and behavior" describes it perfectly. My high school's theater teacher ran her class as close to an actual cult as you can get. She wanted the students to call her "Mom," which was creepy as fuck, and you could often hear her yelling at the kids through the class door when you walked past. One of the students was voted prom king because the theater kids all voted for him as a bloc, even though he was a social non-entity outside the class.
From what a friend of mine told me, she was going through a divorce at the time and was using her class as a substitute family, but she didn't act much different than any other theater class I've ever seen.
"she was going through a divorce at the time and was using her class as a substitute family"
Most left wing quacks in modern society are dysfunctional mentally ill folks who use their social group as a replacement for the family they dont have (bc they are insufferable and brainwashed), the young people in their life they indoctrinate as a replacement for the kids they dont have (because they cant maintain a healthy relationship), and their political ideology as a replacement for religion.
"Anyone watching that and then turning around and deriding Scientology or Megachurch 'brainwashing' needs a swift blow to the head."
Ya, ive been beating that horse with crazy family members and some acquaintances since COVID. Especially satisfying shitting on the smug "educated" (but not intelligent in any way) PHD (sociology) family member who thinks himself so far above religion but practiced COVIDian psy op practices that would make a catholic cardinal or OT6 scientologist blush.
I'm more astounded by, seemingly, a critical return-to-form.
That is,
2018 -
Brie Larson: "This movie isn't for white dudes."
"Critics": "How brave!"
*Critics*: Nobody asked for this movie. It's aimed at childless cat ladies who, while you can pry them away from their boxed wine and Hagen-daas, don't take off their sweatpants and go to the theater often enough to support Hollywood turning up derivative, woke crap up to 11 for 100 or even really 10 movies and endless TV series every year.
2024 -
Hollywood: Here's a movie based on a musical, based on a fan fic/retcon, except we took the gayness and woke diversity idiocy, turned it up to 11, and released it just after the election for gay dudes upset that Trump won to get their moms to put down their box wine and Hagen-daas and go to the theaters.
"Critics": My kids have been hooked on the trailer for weeks!
"*Critics*": This movie isn't really for you.
They took a musical, made it gayer and more aggravatingly woke/racist/sexist, the MSM is talking about how their kids (who probably haven't even seen the actual Wizard of Oz) have been hooked on the trailer for weeks and your criticism of the whole affair is to pull a Brie Larson?
The edit was much better and better reflected the play.
I tried watching the movie last night. Not a fan of musicals anyway, so take it with a grain of salt, but I couldn't stand it. I hate the fake over-acting.
In fairness, her singing and on screen presence was much better than Ariana Grande.
I actually liked the musical when I saw it over a decade ago. Since Wizard of Oz is a very whimsical tale to begin with, it doesn't really affect the original to do a reimagined story where the villain is more complex and misunderstood. It tonally fits into the world.
But this is also one of those things I don't want to see portrayed on film with a more modern Hollywood take. I don't care to go back to it. Hollywood doesn't have a great track record of adapting Broadway musicals-Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables. They lose some of the substance of the stage play but always fail to use the cinematic medium to add anything back.
Every family get together I have to hear my dad (whose mind is slipping now, unfortunately) shocked that I never saw the movie for Les Mis. I tell him that he took the family to see the Broadway show years ago and I hated that, so why would I watch a lesser version of it, the movie?
Musicals are lame to begin with. The one exception is 1776, which is the greatest musical ever. (I do genuinely think that, but I'd also have to say it, regardless, or risk disownment, as 1776 exists in an exalted category of its own in my extended family. Several family members, including I, even have the CD for the soundtrack.)
Is anybody there?
Does anybody care?
Does anybody see what I see?
Did you see the hasbro doll recall, because the packaging said "go to wicked.com"? Wicked.com is a sex toy site. It should have said "wickedmovie.com".
Hasbro wickedly fucked up.
It's more than a sex toy site; Wicked was one of the biggest names in pr0n 25 years ago from making a bunch of high production value movies with Jenna Jameson as its lead star. Ironically, both are rather tired and used up these days.
To be fair, I was pretty sure of the same about the musical.
And, yes, I say that as someone who went to see it with Mrs. Casual 20-some years ago (in a more planned 'Gift of The Magi' situation Mrs. Casual and I got each other tickets to Spamalot and Wicked for each other's birthdays).
And, yes, I say that as someone who went to see it with Mrs. Casual 20-some years ago
The play or the "high production value (porn) movies with Jenna Jameson as its lead star"?

I’m not sure Reason could propaganda hard enough for the first gay president since Buchanan.
You've forgotten Obama already?
I for one was pleased to see Pres Biden admit that Trump has been right all along that the DOJ is engaged in politically motivated prosecutions. Was surprised to learn that somehow the DOJ run by a Biden appointee and filled with Biden supporters was pursuing politically motivated prosecution of Hunter Biden.
There should be no Democratic outrage if Trump pardons all Jan 6 folks, right?
I wonder if all the democratic outrage over the Hunter pardon is just preemptive outrage over the expected Trump pardons.
“No, really, we were JUST as outraged when Biden did the same thing.”
Honestly, I think the Democrats who are outraged over this are probably honestly outraged. It looks bad to lots of people.
Some of them, though, are probably outraged because this opens the door to Trump simply pardoning himself on his last day of office and giving them the finger.
Of course, since Trump can't run for office again after this they won't have much reason to go after him either. That might not stop them, because revenge isn't terribly rational, but there's a chance they'll let him just fade into the background after he leaves office.
Yeah, the whole point of the lawfare was to keep him out of office. That failed, and the dude is going to be over 80 when he leaves, so I'll be surprised at that point if they go back to that well.
Even Hitler at least had the cojones to huddle and write in prison after his first putsch failed. That criticism isn't in the spirit of COVID amnesty.
HE HAS A BEAR IN HIS TRUNK!
Please, bear with him.
Doesn't this mean Hunter can be called as a witness against the rest of the "unindicted co-conspirators" (for you Watergate fans out there) and not be able to plead the 5th? After all, he's just a slimy bagman for the family.
Yes, and refusal to testify is contempt of court, and lying under oath is perjury. My theory is that this pardon is one of Joe's more lucid moments revenge on the Obama machine for sidelining him.
See? Agents of C.R.E.E.P. are still out there... Gerald Ford was the brains of the Warren Comission--the one where Specter bullied doctors into saying entrance wounds were exit wounds. So Ford's pardon also cleared Tricky of putting a hit on JFK even if clear evidence were produced that Nixon was in Dallas that day to pay two extra shooters to take out Kennedy while Oswald tried to get even with Connally over his discharge. We know Nixon didn't personally fire a shot because he was at the airport as Jack arrived at Parkland Hospital.
You’re delusional.
Being that WW3 is about to light off over this bullshit, the people deserve to know the Biden’s involvement with the Ukraine government and their oil oligarchs.
Fuck yeah put Hunter on the stand.
Sooooooo, Jill pardoned Hunter?
A true believer in Jesus would practice the seppuku sacrifice in protest. That or a can of gasoline and a match would SHOW them looters an the OTHER side of the aisle! Heck, add a real name and fame awaits ye.
Are you high or just retarded? Nowhere in the Gospels does it say that.
World's not binary. It could be both.
In fact, suicide is considered a mortal sin in Christianity. In fact, in a number of Christian denominations, suicidal deaths are forbidden from being buried on consecrated soil (albeit the restrictions on this have somewhat loosened but few have officially renounced these rules).
Sacrificing ones self for the good is considered an act of love, but death cannot come at ones own hands. Instead, it is meeting your death at the hands of others, while maintaining your faith that is celebrated. Death by others actions, in defense of your faith or others is noble, but death at your own hands is sinful. The distinction is quite clear. Jesus died by the actions of others. His sacrifice was for others, but not by his own actions. Now the argument can be made that Christ could have saved himself, that he had the power, he chose to sacrifice himself for all mankind. But at no point did he take an active role in his death. Maybe you could argue his passive attitude was suicidal, but Christians don't view it as such. The difference is between active suicide, where you choose to end your life through your own actions, for selfish reasons, and passive, in which the actions of others takes your life. A martyr who is threatened with death unless they renounce their faith, and refuses to renounce their faith, and is thus executed is noble. A soldier staying behind and fighting against overwhelming odds so that his fellow soldiers can escape, and thus dies as a result, is noble. Of course there is gray areas, but the idea is is your death through your own hands, but others, and does your death serve a higher cause.
That why your guys self-emulated at the Air Force base and in NYC to protest for HAMAS?
Please, keep you logic and answer, we willingly wait to hear you explain why it’s YOUR SIDE burning themselves, not ours.
We’ll wait, but only a little bit!

JK Rowling, in her inimitable style, wondered if the BBC gave the award to Banda because it is ‘more time efficient than going door to door to spit directly in women’s faces’.
https://www.spiked-online.com/2024/11/27/the-grotesque-hollowing-out-of-womanhood/
First they came for women’s bathrooms. Then their rape shelters. Then their sports. Now they’re coming for their prizes. The BBC has announced the winner of its Women’s Footballer of the Year Award and you won’t believe who it is. Actually you will. It’s someone who once failed to meet gender-eligibility rules for the women’s game. It’s someone who was excluded from a major tournament after failing ‘gender-verification tests’. It’s someone with such elevated levels of testosterone that they were told to take hormone suppressants if they wanted to kick a ball again. Yes, the BBC’s female footballer of 2024 is someone whose femaleness has been called into question by some experts. They’re taking the piss now, aren’t they?
‘Women’ – what does that even mean? Many in the elites don’t know. The very question ‘What is a woman?’ gets them erming and spluttering. We have now reached the situation where the Supreme Court is being called upon to say, once and for all, what a woman is. In a case brought by the non-wheeshting women of For Women Scotland, the argument will be made that only biological women – ie, women – should be included in the definition of a woman under the Equality Act 2010. Which would mean that blokes in possession of a gender-recognition certificate (GRC) that says they’re a ‘woman’ would not be considered women. Because they’re not women. This is kindergarten levels of knowledge.
The Scottish government is contesting the case and arguing that a ‘person issued with a full GRC in the acquired gender of female’ should be considered a woman. Acquired – that word says it all. Womanhood here is turned from a thing of substance into a flimsy garment anyone can pull on. It is turned from a biological, social and relational experience into garb, costume, pantomime. Womanhood is a commodity now, to be ‘acquired’ as one might acquire a car or a pair of shoes.
"Which would mean that blokes in possession of a gender-recognition certificate (GRC) that says they’re a ‘woman’ "
I already didn't trust the experts anymore, but the experts giving out certificates to dudes saying "nah, this is a woman, officially" seems like jumping the shark.
I would LOL if it wasnt so dystopian
I feel an overwhelming urge to tell them the certificates don't work unless they hold them up right in front of their faces... and then punch them in their certificates.
Probably my totally-imaginary, gender-as-social-construct, hallucination talking.
But, you know, the swing of my fist would stop before the end of someone's nose, so I'm totally just being a libertarian and not a dishonest libertine, hedging on behalf of violence and/or hurting people.

I mean ya, it's dumb. But I don't know if it's worth getting your panties in a knot.
I don't think Rowling lost a minute of sleep on her pile of money. I do think any time is a good time to deride State-sponsored messaging.
Waiting for Elon Musk to buy Twitter and trannies to show up at your local library for story hour while ENB shouts "They're banning books!" and "Republicans pounce." is clearly just going to (continue to) get you tripped and then kicked while you're down.
Because as I posted yesterday with the biggest mic drop of the holiday season, it's all just about pronouns...
The point is that it's part of normalizing this mass psy-op that society should bend to the demands of mentally ill narcissists by lying that they are something that they actually are not. Like Theodore Dalrymple pointed out, "political correctness is communism writ small," meant to make a society of emasculated liars so that they are easier to control. It's part of how these creeps justify genital mutilation and chemical castration on the bodies of healthy children.
Fuck ignoring this shit anymore. It needs to be confronted and broken.

That paragraph does not exist because it contradicts the narrative about Reason unconditionally defending everything that Biden and the Democrats do.
Damn, you’re broken.
The angry little retard was always a "My Party right or wrong" Democrat pushing narratives he took from CNN.
What he's doing here is the "Republicans Pounce" meme. He's always pretending the problem isn't with what Democrats did, but our reactions to Reason's converge of Democrat perfidy.
We're mocking you for always complaining about negative coverage against Republicans by calling Reason "leftist" but totally ignoring Reason's negative coverage against Democrats.
It is as if you are paid to defend Republicans around here.
So you admit to being paid to promote the Democrat agenda here?
but totally ignoring Reason's negative coverage against Democrats.
So totally doing the 'Republicans pounce' then.
And maybe you two chucklefucks can point out the "negative" coverage here that is actually negative, and isn't just a minimization exercise full of 'BOAF SIDES' and 'what about' and all sorts of excuses like above.
Exactly - Reason.com TDS means theres LITTLE or NO negative news on the Dem liars, ever. If there is, it’s immediately followed by “but TRUMP!”
It’s fucking pathetic.
I think you've made your point by now. Try something new.
Poor sarc. No new ideas™ .
Yawn.
Two.
Sarc us now at least 0-4 in criticizing an 1q year get out of jail free card from his democrat heros. Meanwhile supports murder and jailing of everyone related to J6, insane civil judgements against conservatives, etc.
Weird.
By the way..
it contradicts the narrative
Should be
it contradicts the strawman i created
Jesse, on the other hand, believes that defamation laws are wrong and unfair, but only when they are used against conservatives. When they are used against liberals - say, with Sandmann vs. CNN, then defamation laws are totally awesome.
Again Jeffy pretends he doesn't understand the difference between the government and the individual doing it.
What a pathetic fuck.
The Alex Jones lawsuit was also not the government suing Alex Jones, it was Sandy Hook parents. But you are up to your usual tricks, lying and gaslighting on behalf of your team.
The Alex Jones lawsuit is typically the type of one real libertarians rally against as it gives damages for ridiculous psychological claims. But, of course, we know you’re a libertine, Jeffy, not a libertarian.
USSC generally limits punitive to 10x harm.
Sarc and Jeff still have never showed the 150M in supposed harm here while defending the suit.
They just cheer for it because it harmed an enemy.
Jesse was talking about J6, not Alex Jones, shill. This is exactly what I meant by you pretending you don't understand the difference between the government and the individual doing it.
I hope you didn't get fifty-cents for that.
Jesse:
insane civil judgements against conservatives
That's what I was referring to, you know it, but you lie and gaslight because you are paid to.
Which ones do you feel were legitimate and not state-motivated, Lying Jeffy?
So, why don't you first apologize for lying about me. If not, then go suck a bag of dicks. Again.
Nobody lied about you, you fat fifty-centing Nazi fuck. You won't answer because you know that everything you said is bullshit.
No, ive also mentioned the Alex Jones and guilliani suits. 2 civil suits real libertarians also dislike.
But both Jeff and sarc support.
Anything to harm their enemies.
I don't like Alex Jones at all, and think he's a raving lunatic. And, I still think that judgment against him is completely bonkers.
You have a link and a cite for that claim?
Here, let's go back in time a bit:
https://reason.com/2019/02/21/nick-sandmann-covington-lawsuit-libel/?comments=true#comments
This article is Robby Soave arguing why he thinks it was wrong for Sandmann to file his defamation lawsuit. And there is comment after comment from Reason posters defending the lawsuit. Where is Jesse? Is he sticking up for Soave in a principled position against defamation laws? Of course not.
Jesse has no principles, he only complains about the Alex Jones lawsuit because his team lost.
Jesse has one comment in that thread and says nothing of the sort. What kind of lies are your trying to push here, dip?
Got a question for you:
Is suing Alex Jones this way OK and in line with libertarian principles and the NAP? If it is, then why is it right or wrong to do this to the New York Times when they commit libel?
Jesse's only two comments in the thread:
JesseAz 6 years ago
When did Walter block become the one true prophet of libertarianism? It turns out that libertarians bicker a lot. Read more books.
JesseAz 6 years ago
Quick cmw, move the goalposts more. Your argument broken down to base premises was destroyed and pissed on.
Lying Jeffy really hoped no one would click on his example.
Lol.
They are so pathetic.
I don’t call him Lying Jeffy for nothing.
Jesse's only two comments in the thread:
Thank you for proving my point. Not once did he offer any comment in support of Soave's argument. If Jesse really believes defamation laws are wrong as a matter of principle, why wasn't he supporting Soave and his argument? Instead he just got into bitchy fights with commenters that he didn't like.
Jesse, like you, like R Mac, has no principles.
The ONLY reason Jesse is upset about the Alex Jones verdict is because his team lost. THAT'S IT. There is no underlying principle at work here at all. Only that the other team won and his team lost. That is how he views most if not all of the issues here.
Oh, fuck you, you fucking fuckwit. Jesse neither defends nor attacks Soave in that thread, and you regard it as a total negative against him. You sir, are an asshole of the highest caliber.
He’s a lying psychopath.
When I say Lying Jeffy is evil I'm not exaggerating.
"Jesse, like you, like R Mac, has no principles."
You know who has no principles? You don't, you fascist lying freakshow.
Imagine being so utterly dishonest as to try to portray someone as in disagreement because he didn't voice agreement but talked about something else. If that's the case, there are innumerable threads where you didn't comment on what the writer had said.
So I guess tomorrow by your metrics I get to accuse your rotten ass of supporting the Uyghur genocide and the axis in WW2, right?
Fucking retarded fifty-center. I hope Media Matters didn't give you a dime for that horseshit.
Jesse opposes laws against defamation, libel and slander because the only time he's not telling malicious lies about people is when he's sleeping.
Got a cite for that, oh Oracle of Jagermister?
I wonder how much rent Jesse would owe for living in Sarc's head.
He continues to get angry when I point out him and Jeff defend the civil lawfare 1.5B.
Defamation is intended to cover costs from Defamation and slander. Punition damages at 10x based on precedent.
So far nobody has ever showed me how either the families or the gov workers in Alex Jones or Giuliani were actually harmed.
Sarc and Jeff prefer it as a weapon against their enemies.
It is the same motivation as when they supported censorship. They just want to do it through civil courts now. Jeff and sarc are pure blood authoritarians.
Jesse, you are an amoral will-to-power authoritarian. You will support anyone or anything which helps your team win regardless of principle or precedent. We have shown you countless times how the defamation victims were harmed at least in the Giuliani case.
https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/jury-awards-148-million-in-damages-to-georgia-election-workers-over-rudy-giulianis-2020-vote-lies
EVEN GIULIANI'S OWN DEFENSE ATTORNEY ADMITTED THAT THE TWO WOMEN DESERVED COMPENSATION. And yet Jesse cannot. Even after all of this time.
Blow it out your fat, pompous, sophistic ass. You’re the authoritarian here wanting governmental mandates but couching them under the guise of “well, if everyone did it, the government wouldn’t have to mandate it.”
Cite?
I oppose ridiculous 1.5B or 150M defamation suits with no standing or precedent you lying fuck.
Please defend the Alex Jones amount again while claiming to be libertarian.
Real Jesse:
"I oppose defamation judgments against conservatives."
There, fixed it for you
Look at Lying Jeffy refuse to adress the issue. Again.
The main point of that paragraph is to attack Trump. The topic of the article, Biden's pardon, has nothing to do with Trump. Futhermore, the being and end of the paragraph have no meaningful connection to any point Robby is trying to make other than Trump is the real threat to democracy.
The second half of the paragraph is there to emphasize how hypocritical the pardon is, which is further proof that the entire paragraph doesn't exist.
Totally fucking broken.
Zzzzzzzzz.
“Media commentators have slammed Patel as a Trump loyalist…”
Because Biden filled his cabinet with Republicans?
Let's be honest, we all knew Biden was going to pardon Hunter, it was just a question of when. I'm surprised it took this long, but maybe he was waiting until after the election to take care of it.
I kind of expected it a bit later, but with the sentencing in a couple of weeks, it makes sense. The bigger question is, who else is Joe going to pardon?
Himself.
Yeah, they admitted they waited until after the election so they wouldn't hurt Kamala's campaign. Pure politics.
The first thing Trump should do is pardon every single Jan.6 prisoner.
And it will be ok because Democrats did it first.
Damn, you’re retarded. Is that your answer for everything?
He’s out of ideas™ .
0-5 in being able to criticize this action.
Sarc’s on a major loosing streak this morning. Will he have enough 40s to make it through the day?
Wait, don't you mean republicans did it first (Ford with Nixon)???
It will be ok because the vast majority of them didn’t commit any violence or violate the NAP in any way. FTFY.
The Hunter pardon is fine for the tax evasion and gun charges because fuck the state and their bullshit laws (the only reason those are bullshit is because of how connected the crackhead is). The blanket going back 10 years is some shady corrupt bullshit that any decent person would be calling out as such.
Sarc doesn’t give a shot about the NAP. He cares about his tribe.
I'm fine with him pardoning the ones who got sentences for non-violent offenses like wandering around the hall when they were let in through the ropes. The ones who committed property damage can have theirs commuted or reduced, but they still need to bear responsibility for breaking shit.
Agreed. He should also pardon the ones convicted of J6 crimes who weren’t even in DC at the time.
Both of 'em!
The ones who committed property damage can have theirs commuted or reduced, but they still need to bear responsibility for breaking shit.
BLM did it first and worse, so that made it ok.
So how about that cop who shot the unarmed woman at close range?
This asshole is fine with that:

“How many officers were there to stop Ashlee Babbitt and the dozens of people behind her from getting into the legislative chamber to do who knows what?...”
Such a broken piece of shit lol.
You defended 20 year sentences for J6 you statist fuck. While crying about unmarked vans being used to arrest blm rioters.
That's fair. At this point I'm out for blood. 4 years of government harassment leaves me unconcerned about even the bad actors catching pardons. I want prosecution for the corrupt J6 committee and the rest who engaged in aggressive lawfare on false pretenses.
BOOTS ON DESKS!
100%
And while it's refreshing for a potential FBI director to be skeptical of the agency's ever-expanding mission creep, he has also threatened to unleash the power of the government against the president-elect's critics, which would be an obvious abuse of power.
Hey Robby, how come your claim that Kash threatened to unleash the power of the government against people who criticize Trump, isn't verified by your inline citation at ABC?
Blink twice if KMW made you add that last line.
It isn't the critics Patel ever mentions. It is those who abused their powers to go after political enemies.
You can’t go after government actors for blatantly abusing their power and authority, that’s super duper mega authoritarian! - you know who it would be
Robby must've let chemjeffsarc write that section.
Robby has built a career as a kinda sorta libertarianish talking head who gets occasional face time on Fox news. But deep down inside he understands that his role is to defend the ruling regime with a boaf sides caveat. That's the Koch/Reason/neocon version of truth to power.
"Joe Pardons Hunter"
Crime family gets blanket coverage.
I hope Trump makes comment regarding the obvious hypocrisy, points out how the entire family is a criminal operation, and lets it be.
Scumbags don't deserve a whole lot more.
The New York Times calls for civil war
Call for civil war, charge a subscription for the details.
LOL, possibly the best take of the day. That's hilarious.
Noice
Yeah, all Trump voters should be viewed as traitors is my favorite.
~77,000,000 voters are traitors. Let's get this party started. Enough of the NYT bullshit.
Say when.

Greaseball Newsom seems to imagine that a majority of D TDS-addled shits in CA can void the Constitution.
And he's only asking $25 million dollars in a state that's already a couple billion in the hole. What a bargain.
"In trying to break Hunter, they've tried to break me."
Who is "they" exactly? This is Biden's DoJ, FBI, USSS, DEA, BATF, USMS, is he saying that The State, of which he is the head, is out to get his son?
He's tacitly admitting that the Deep State operates independently of the elected government.
“There's no sugarcoating what the elder Biden has done: He has issued what may well be remembered as the most disreputable presidential pardon in the U.S. history…”
Yes.but Robbie’s TDS! But TRUMP! But PATEL! TDS!
FOAD RS.
A clip from Billy Bob Thornton’s new show "Landman" went viral on X for slamming the use of renewable energy like wind turbines, that are intended to combat the effects of climate change.
"They use clean energy to power the oil wells?" Kayla Wallace’s character said in the scene of the show.
"They use alternative energy. There is nothing clean about this," Billy Bob Thornton’s character said.
"Please, Mr. Oilman, tell me how the wind is bad for the environment?" Kayla Wallace replied.
Thornton’s "Tommy Norris" responded, "You have any idea how much diesel will have to burn to mix that much concrete or make that steel and haul this s–t out here and put it together with a 450-foot crane? You want to guess how much oil it takes to lubricate that f---ing thing? Or winterize it? In its 20-year lifespan, it won’t offset the carbon footprint of making it. And don’t get me started on solar panels and the lithium in your tesla battery."
"Hate to fact check this but the carbon payback period is 6 months to two years," said Troy Cross, a professor of Philosophy and Humanities at Reed College.
"Sorry, I am absolutely not buying this claim. Do you seriously think that anyone can produce wind turbines using only wind energy?" replied Tom Nelson, the producer of Climate: The Movie."
"From an educational standpoint, if you watch just one scene from the new series Landman starring Billy Bob Thornton, this should be it. Spread it far and wide," Texas Alliance posted on X.
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/landman-clip-goes-viral-slamming-renewable-energy-there-is-nothing-clean-about-this/ar-AA1uOBD4?ocid=msedgntp&pc=HCTS&cvid=37f474436c894d37ac9d75b390f936cd&ei=80
"Hate to fact check this but the carbon payback period is 6 months to two years," said Troy Cross, a professor of Philosophy and Humanities at Reed College.
And there it is, the voice of "experts" who think the blessing of just having an advanced degree makes them sages on everything.
Guaranteed that "6 months to two years" claim came straight from a "green" cult NGO or the manufacturer of the turbines themselves, and is a complete lie that this malbushim professor is just regurgitating like the good little adherent that he is.
I’d like to see the math on that, yeah…wind turbines are not extremely efficient.
I'm willing to bet he just pulled it out of his ass right then.
Who the fuck goes to a Professor of Philosophy and Humanities for hard science 'fact checking'?
Honest question, since this guy probably hasn't taken a science class since they were an undergraduate. I probably have just as many science credits as this fuckwit does.
What, you don't "trust the experts?"
That's a major problem, there, people who think they are experts on stuff they didn't get degrees in. Neil DeGrasse Tyson was defending weighing in on biology and medicine because he's a "scientist," and scientists all are rational people who understand and can apply statistics. Except they clearly don't.
"Experts" are the people willing to say things the left agrees with.
Even if I did trust the experts, this guy isn't one of them. I get your point of course, and it's a valid one, but in this particular case I have just as much education in the subject as this asshole so if we're labeling him an expert than so too am I.
Maybe he was just philosophizing.
I'm constantly reminded of this:
"Briefly stated, the Gell-Mann Amnesia effect is as follows. You open the newspaper to an article on some subject you know well. In Murray's case, physics. In mine, show business. You read the article and see the journalist has absolutely no understanding of either the facts or the issues. Often, the article is so wrong it actually presents the story backward—reversing cause and effect. I call these the "wet streets cause rain" stories. Paper's full of them.
In any case, you read with exasperation or amusement the multiple errors in a story, and then turn the page to national or international affairs, and read as if the rest of the newspaper was somehow more accurate about Palestine than the baloney you just read. You turn the page, and forget what you know."
– Michael Crichton (1942-2008)
Yep, and it's why I don't trust journalists, because even when they "get it right," they almost always have barely a surface level understanding of what they're writing about and end up missing the forest for the trees. Typically, they're just regurgitating press releases or pulling shit from Wikipedia without attribution (which I actually saw happen with a piece of data I put in an article that only I knew at the time, and had not seen written down in the same fashion ANYWHERE else on the web). The Millennials and Zoomers of the field, like a lot of their generation, are absolutely terrified to talk to people directly on the phone or in person, and typically just shoot out emails and write whatever the fuck they want, anyway.
Have you noticed the few journalists who work outside the hivemind often came to journalism late from other fields where they established some knowledge independent of what they are spoon-fed? Stossel and Greenwald for example?
It helps them understand how real knowledge is developed including the ability to test it.
I’ve always thought of journalists, for the most part, as being like the Platte River. They try to cover a broad area, a mile wide, but their knowledge in each area is only an inch deep. It’s not thick enough to use for fertile soil, yet it’s too full of shit to drink.
Yikes. Ranked #63 in "National Liberal Arts Colleges" by USNews. That's practically a participation trophy.

[Image doesn't lend itself to copying text, but it's a list of topics comparing Journalists take vs 'Conspiracy Theorists' in a 'who was right?' takedown].
Yep. 'Your lyin' eyes' are to be trusted.
Sarcasmic still believes a good five or six of those and Buttplug is still spreading the Russia hoax.
Okay, now do the thousands of conspiracy theories that are spread by goobers online which are completely false and batshit crazy.
No one is perfect in reporting the news. But who do you think does a more reliable job overall in reporting the news: Reuters, or that moron who just started a Youtube channel like 5 minutes ago?
"Okay, now do the thousands of conspiracy theories that are spread by goobers online which are completely false and batshit crazy."
Actually why don't you? If there are "thousands" give us one or two examples of some actual conspiracy theories being spread by MAGA that were baseless. And I'm not going to let you pretend people's predictions count, BTW. It has to be something MAGA was claiming had happened.
Actually, why don't you suck a bag of dicks? I'm not going to play your burden-inversion games. Go ahead and continue to pretend that conspiracy theories are more reliable than Reuters.
Because there aren't "thousands", there aren't "hundreds", there aren't "tens", and there probably aren't "ones". You were lying.
Also, your pals at Reuters are the biggest BlueAnon conspiracy mongers there ever were, and unlike you I can provide a list of one hundred conspiracy theories advanced by Reuters right now.
Ask me to post them right now and I'll throw in an extra fifty.
Ask me, Jeffy.
Okay, I'll ask. How many bags of dicks have you sucked?
That wasn’t the question, asshole.
Glorious. Lying Jeffy has been completely destroyed.
That was a pretty big own by ML. Brutal.
Not a one, Lying Jeffy, and I see you hold the monopoly.
But I'm going to post your Blue Anon conspiracy theories that Reuters has advanced anyways, so you can rage and swear:

I’m fairly new / comment creeper, but wi just muted that user ChemJeff or whatever.
Yall could consider doing the same, and regain time wasted on replying to that user.
I like to make sure everyone that comes here is aware he’s a lying psychopath.
I've been on the edge of muting Jeff and Sarc both for quite a while. But everyone once in a while, when they're not being complete dicks, one or the other of them says something that is actually somewhat thought-provoking and not just juvenile contrarian thread-shitting. Their SNR is just ever so slightly above 0dB.
Also, every once in a while, we get something fabulous like bears in trunks and just jacking off, or Sarc's new word of the day.
Just skimmed your list. Did you add the audio of Trump dropping an N-bomb that was going to come out right before the election?
You made the claim:
“the thousands of conspiracy theories that are spread by goobers online which are completely false and batshit crazy.”
so there’s no “burden-inversion”. What the actual fuck?
I am not interested in indulging ML's sealioning and pettifoggery. He just wants to stir up shit. He knows as well as everyone else that there is a lot of batshit insane crazy on the Internet and he wants to pretend that none of it exists when he holds up his preferred crank news sources to be just as legitimate as Reuters or AP.
You made the claim, dipshit. Now put up and post it, gutless coward, or fuck right off.
“He just wants to stir up shit”
That’s literally all you’ve been doing here all day.
"I am not interested in indulging ML's sealioning and pettifoggery.
You made the fucking claim and said their were "thousands". I asked for one example and you didn't even have to provide a citation, and not only would you not do it, you try and wriggle out of it by calling it "sealioning".
Who do you think this tricks?
I hope they fire you for this shit.
Prime example of Gaslighting.
I was relatively convinced that Biden was already dead this past summer. Not a common conspiracy theory, but there was enough smoke at the time to suggest it was possible
I still think it's plausible. The technology exists to create a convincing "double".
Nah, Biden’s still alive. It’s the vindictiveness coming out of him and Jill that tells me he’s still with us.
""No one is perfect in reporting the news.""
No one is perfect. But there is a difference between imperfection and ignoring things because that will hurt your team.
The media ignoring Biden's observable cognitive decline was not a result of imperfection. It was straight up a lie because they knew admitting it would hurt their team.
Now do remote vote-hacking from the US Embassy in Rome. Totes legit!
I don't know anything about remote vote-hacking so I don't get the comparison.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Italygate
The point is, the people who trash reputable news sources in favor of their own crank sources point to a few times when the more reputable sources turned out to be wrong as a justification to believe the cranks. They NEVER point out all the thousands of times when the cranks were cranks and just wrong. It is deliberately dishonest selection bias.
Which network was pushing that you dishonest cunt because a whole lot of them were pushing video evidence of Biden's decline as "cheapfakes" just days before the debate. You seem to equate some rando or some claim about what some random said as equivalent to multiple network news segments.
Is there a political party pushing that narrative front and center?
Is this some oddball antipapist angle you’re working now?
Lmao. If you weren’t a psychopath you would feel shameful for pulling this shit out of your ass.
If Jeff had shame he would have hung himself decades ago.
Alcoholics like him will eventually drink themselves to death, end up in jail, or sober.
There is no other way.
That user has their own choice to make.
I choose to not engage with them (muted).
Correct
I cannot dispute that there are a lot of bogus conspiracy theories, like lizard people, flat earth, and birds aren't real.
The distinction here is that journalists fought hard to discredit this subset of events, labeling them as crazy conspiracy theories, when in many cases they KNEW the truth. The active deceit involved in trying to discredit the truth as "misinformation", pushing active disinformation to cover for the powers-that-be is the story here.
Birds, like fish and vegetables, aren't real. In the sense that they are not scientifically rigorous taxonomical categories. It's not a conspiracy.
They are real, in that they are simple, mostly linguistic categories of things that share some common features, while possibly being less related than humans and bananas.
Birds Aren't Real is a satirical conspiracy theory which posits that birds are actually drones operated by the United States government to spy on American citizens.[2][3][4][5] In 2018, journalist Rachel Roberts described Birds Aren't Real as "a joke that thousands of people are in on."[3]
The movement claims that all birds in the United States were exterminated by the federal government between 1959 and 1971 and replaced by lookalike drones used by the government to spy on citizens; the specifics of these theories are not always consistent, not unlike actual conspiracy theories. They claim that birds sit on power lines to recharge themselves, that birds defecate on cars as a tracking method, and that U.S. president John F. Kennedy was assassinated by the government due to his reluctance to kill all the birds.[4][8][9]
What he meant is there's no hard and fast kingdom and phylum definitions let alone species.
For example are lichen a plant, fungus, yeast or bacteria? (The correct answer is yes).
Are tigers and lions actually different species as they can have fertile offspring?
Are our mitochondria really us or just useful invaders? What about our gut bacteria?
Yes, I did mean that, but I was unaware of the Birds Aren't Real meme that MO is referring to.
Birds Aren't Real is a satirical conspiracy theory which posits that birds are actually drones operated by the United States government to spy on American citizens.
Ohhhhh, I hereby retract my "umm, actually".
Hard to blame Biden for pardoning his son. Any loving father would be strongly tempted to do the same.
The gun charge was completely bullshit from the start. And yes he was only targeted because he is the son of the president.
While the gun charge is bullshit, the pardon goes back to January 1, 2014, before Hunter was put on the board of a major Ukrainian energy company. Ask yourself why that is, Jeffy.
Fuck off and die, slimy pile of lying lefty shit.
Yeah, it’s all about the gun charge.
In extending it back to 2014 you know it's about Burisma and not a gun, you deceitful shitweasel.
Any loving father would be strongly tempted to do the same.
A loving father would have disciplined Hunter years ago and held him accountable before any of this even took place. Love does not equal indulgence.
This was about protecting the Biden family as a whole from having its dirty laundry potentially exposed. It didn't have shit to do with love.
Biden would should Hunter in the face if it meant keeping him quiet about Biden's corruption.
Bidne partly did it so that Trump couldn't get credit for being magnanimous (not to mention right about politically motivated prosecutions by the DOJ).
https://www.axios.com/2024/10/24/trump-hunter-biden-pardon
Former President Trump indicated he'd consider pardoning Hunter Biden if he's reelected during an interview that aired Thursday with conservative radio show host Hugh Hewitt.
As part of his response about pardoning Hunter Biden, Trump referenced former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's alleged misuse of a private email server for sensitive information.
"I could have gotten Hillary Clinton very easily," Trump said.
"I could have had her put in jail," he said, referencing the "lock her up" chants of his 2016 presidential campaign.
"I decided I didn't want to do that. I thought it would look terrible," Trump added.
Gun charge: yes. The rest of it? Chemjeff is just bootlicking, hoping for a chance to tickle Joe's balls.
Fuck off you Leftist cunt. This is entirely about trying to save the Biden crime family through it's most exposed member. That you excuse this and the corruption it tries to excuse says mountains about you. GDIAF.
https://www.spiked-online.com/2024/12/01/the-immigration-figures-tell-a-story-of-elite-failure/
It should be said that there are good reasons why net migration has been so high in recent years. Over 500,000 refugees arrived in the UK on a long-term basis, fleeing war in Ukraine, CCP authoritarianism in Hong Kong and the brutally repressive Taliban in Afghanistan, thanks to special government schemes. The ONS attributes its undercount for 2022-23 partially to its underestimation of the number of Ukraine visas granted.
Those who wilfully ignore these one-off geopolitical factors do the debate no favours. There was widespread support for those re-settlement schemes and there continues to be. Because, contrary to the Guardianista caricature, Brits are not heartless xenophobes. Quite the opposite.
The British state has effectively been using mass immigration as a palliative for a deep-seated economic malaise – a sticking plaster for profound structural problems, from poor productivity to chronic worklessness. Instead of seeking to transform Brexit Britain’s economy, to raise wages and get people back into gainful employment, the state has allowed businesses to bring in labour from abroad, on an unprecedented scale, to plug the gaps in a stuttering, low-wage economy.
This had been happening on a smaller scale in the 2000s and 2010s, as EU free movement gave both the private and public sectors access to much cheaper foreign-born labour. But rather than shaking this habit after Britain left the EU – by paying better wages to those already living here and seeking to raise productivity – the state’s and businesses’ use of migrant labour has turned into a full-on addiction.
In total, there are now nearly six million people on some form of out-of-work benefits.
We see the grim side-effects of this palliative all around us. Migrants now fill many shamefully low-paid roles, especially in the care sector, while ever-growing numbers of working-age Brits subsist on state support. The economy continues to stagnate, with businesses preferring cheap labour to productive investment. Meanwhile, whole communities wither on the vine.
You can be in favour of a liberal migration policy, as we at spiked are, and realise that opening the doors purely due to an addiction to cheap labour will only prolong our economic problems, and turn people against migration to boot.
Nail on the head. Spiked gets libertarianism right. They're probably open to more immigration than myself, but at least they acknowledge the externalities and the motivations behind open border zealots
That will be us in a few years or decades. It's as predictable as the sun rising that a huge influx of cheap labor will drive down wages and reduce domestic employment.
We have centuries of examples on this now.
Shit, I'd say we're already there:
Instead of seeking to transform Brexit Britain’s economy, to raise wages and get people back into gainful employment, the state has allowed businesses to bring in labour from abroad, on an unprecedented scale, to plug the gaps in a stuttering, low-wage economy.
In some ways yes, but the United States is so much bigger in both population and geographic size that it'll take a hell of a lot more immigrants over a much longer period of time to get to the same shit destination.
Simply put, we can absorb more legal or even illegal immigrants than Britain can. Not saying that's necessarily good or bad, it's just how it is.
We're well along the way, to be sure, but we aren't at the same place Britain is either. Yet.
Canada and Australia are in the same boat.
Top Democrat megadonor John Morgan is setting fire to any future presidential dreams that Harris may have. He’s going so far as to say that Harris “has no talent” and that she can “never run for president again.”
From Breitbart News:
“Well, my reaction is, you know, she thinks she’s Obama,” Morgan replied. “She goes to Hawaii because Obama goes to Hawaii. She started talking like Obama, imitating Obama. She is not Barack Obama. She has no talent. She could never run for president again. She ran once and got zero delegates. She got 8% of California. I begged them not to put her up. She was going to be tethered to Biden no matter what. That was a zero-sum game for her. But she thought that all these votes were for her. They were not.”
“The votes that she got were people voting against Trump, and the votes that Trump got were the people voting for Trump,” he continued. “What the Harris campaign should have done instead of avoiding Joe Rogan and podcasts? It turns out that Barron Trump, who looks like the runway model, was telling his father, you need to go on podcasts. You need to go on Joe Rogan. You know, he was three hours late to a rally because he was doing Joe Rogan because that was so important. So, Barron Trump is a lot smarter than everybody in Harris. They said they didn’t go on Joe Rogan, and the progressives around her, you heard what Carville said, the progressives didn’t want to go on Joe Rogan.”
Not stopping there, Morgan proceeded to double down.
“Look, if I’m running, I’m going on Joe Rogan, I’m living on Fox,” Morgan concluded. “That’s how you change minds. They played hide-the-ball. They lost badly. She should go away and never, ever come back. She spent almost $2 billion. They’re raising money this week to pay off the debt. If you can’t run your campaign, you damn sure can’t run the country.”
https://pjnewsletter.com/john-morgan-kamala-harris/
“Well, my reaction is, you know, she thinks she’s Obama,”
Pretty low bar, there.
Sounds like someone is pissy that he took a major bath with the election.
But he's not wrong.
Rogan's Trump interview had something like 47 million listeners. How many were partisan Republicans? One third? Missing an opportunity to reach, say 30 million voters who you maybe could persuade, even if only 1%, would be relevant if they're in the states you need. Sounds like a major miscalculation to avoid that show because you don't like the host for defecting from the Democrats and mostly being a late 20th century liberal otherwise.
And as it turns out podcasts are the perfect venue for Trump. His rallies are just the same red meat over and over again. But in an unscripted long form conversation he reveals that he's actually a thoughtful guy with a sense of humor. But keeping Kamala off of Rogan was not a mistake. She is not a thoughtful funny person and the contrast with Trump would have been obvious.
Not only does her stuff need to be scripted, the stuff she answers to needs to be delivered in advance. Regardless of her inappropriate cackling, she's also devoid of a sense of humor.
Any further exposure would only have cost her more votes.
Always seemed like nervous laughing not funny laughing.
Harris was running the kind of campaign that would say we can do an hour only to show up late and not give you a full hour. The campaign knew the longer she talked the less successful it would be.
...Barron Trump is a lot smarter than everybody in Harris.
Low bar, but not wrong either.
“Look, if I’m running, I’m going on Joe Rogan, I’m living on Fox,” Morgan concluded. “That’s how you change minds.
He's not wrong. John Fetterman is on Fox constantly, because he's trying to reach voters beyond the Dem bubble, and at least understands how those viewers think.
Trump and Vance were notorious for going to media venues that were overtly hostile to them during the campaign. Rogan wasn't going to be adversarial, but Barron was smart to encourage them to go on those podcasts because doing so humanized them. You can't do a 3-hour podcast and not have people come out with a decent sense of who you are.
Yeah, and Fetterman had a stroke and he's still smart enough to see this. It almost seems like post-stroke Fetterman is more lucid and intelligent than pre-stroke Fetterman.
Weird but true.
"because he's trying to reach voters beyond the Dem bubble"
AOC has just realized this too. Lets see if it sticks.
AOC has a lock on her district, she has absolutely no need to 'reach across the aisle' and in fact if she did so that would be the way she loses her district.
They want an insane retard to represent them, and if she stopped being one she'd be out of the job. Pretty sure she knows this, too.
My take on those AOC types suddenly finding the Center; at the end of WW2 everyone singled out their neighbors as who were the ‘real Nazis’ (certainly not them!).
It’s important to remember who was on which side these 8 years, and who was front and center of the Woke crowd - Squad Oberführer AOC.
He seems to think the problem is tactical rather than substantive, the underlying assumption is that she could persuade some portion of Rogan listeners. But there are two problems with this. First she's a terrible speaker utterly without charisma or style. Second her message is completely unsupportable at best and off-putting to normals. Based on her ads her message is "he's rich and therefore I'm better for you" which is incredibly and obviously superficial. Vance could talk policy for ours because he is relaying the process he actually went through to arrive at his positions. Harris can't explain the problems with price controls because she adopted all her positions as given to her by the far left. She's never considered any of them at all. While this is fine when speaking to the left Rogan's style is specifically designed to understand the decision-making process. Someone who has made no decisions can't succeed.
In truth if she goes on Rogan she finishes worse.
I'd say going on Rogan might have helped humanize her more. That's why Trump and Vance did it, and Rogan's an easy interview because it's not really an interview, it's an afternoon hanging out with a bro who likes weed.
But as you say, Harris can barely function even in heavily curated settings, and is an absolute train-wreck in free form discussions. Every radio/podcast interview she's done, she comes off as a complete phony who can't walk and chew gum at the same time. Maybe she was a competent prosecutor, but she's a shit politician who would have been in private practice years ago, or some banker's trophy wife, if she didn't live in a one-party blue state.
Yeah all of this weeping about her handlers keeping her off of Rogan is nonsense. She probably would have lost New Jersey for fuck's sake.
Colleges producing snowflakes...
Students unable to speak with those who disagree with them, says Ivy League chief
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/students-unable-to-speak-with-those-who-disagree-with-them-says-ivy-league-chief/ar-AA1v54zt
Students can no longer converse with people who disagree with them because of a rise in online “echo chambers,” an Ivy League university president has warned.
Sian Beilock, a cognitive scientist who took the reins at Dartmouth College last year, said social media has made it difficult for young people to interact with each other in person.
“We’re seeing that students aren’t practised at having conversations with people who disagree with them, in part because social media puts you towards people who agree with you,” Ms Beilock told The Times.
The Dartmouth College president said that “learning to talk to people who are different from you is a muscle that you build with training” and that it is something her university encourages alongside counselling and wider support mechanisms.
Ms Beilock said students used to debate with people in person who they disagreed with, but now they communicate online and some are even scared to make a phone call.
The Dartmouth College president said that “learning to talk to people who are different from you is a muscle that you build with training”
Curious, so she is saying that liberal college students have never met a minority or foreign national in their lives, but this doesn't stop them from speaking for them of course.
Talk about a tacit admission that conservatives are entirely correct about these fools. I'm from South Texas originally, and I grew up in a town that was over 50% Hispanic.
That is more contact with foreign nationals and legal immigrants than probably 90% of these people. I've also lived in leftist havens like Dallas, TX and now in Colorado, and while I might disagree with a lot of the farther left people who live in these places I can still have a civil conversation with them and even maintain friendships with them. Go figure.
Everyone knows the White Female Liberals with septum piercings and ‘problem glasses’ really believe immigrants should only be doing ‘the lawn, washing your dishes, cleaning your poop’ - their patronizing racism guised as “love” is disgusting.
They think Blacks can’t get IDs, do math, or even know ‘what a computer is’ ffs
Stupid xenophobic, racist, anti-human, fascist bigots! MMGA!
USA Today: As Trump plans mass deportation, Mexican views of migration harden
Marta Castillo is angry about immigration. There are too many migrants in her town, she said, and they don't speak the language.
“We’ve been invaded,” she said, standing outside her job at a restaurant. “I changed my opinion (about them), because I live in a place where we didn’t see any of this. But now everywhere there are people who aren’t from here.”
Castillo is Mexican. She lives in Mexico. Like a growing number of her fellow citizens, she's become increasingly negative about the migrants who have poured into her community – despite living in a country where millions of people have ties to someone who migrated to the United States.
It wasn't long ago that most Mexicans could say they had family or a friend who had gone to "el norte" to work or escape violence and insecurity. But the changing demographics of migration – first the rise in the number of Central Americans, then Haitians, then Venezuelans, then people from all over the globe – has hardened some Mexicans' views.
Seven in 10 Mexicans believe that migrant flows into their country are "excessive," according to a survey by the nonprofit Oxfam Mexico published in 2023. More than half of respondents said they believe migration has a negative or no positive impact on the economy or culture, and 40% think migration in Mexico should be limited or prohibited.
I like going to Mexico. Always have a pleasant time there. 20+ years ago I spent a week in Mexico City working on a project for a large US company putting a factory in Mexico City. We were building equipment for it. My cab driver to the airport has lived in Chicago for many years and has recently returned to live in Mexico. Not too uncommon a situation from what I have gathered visiting Mexico a bit.
he has also threatened to unleash the power of the government against the president-elect's critics,
No he hasnt. He has talked about prosecuting those who behaved in a criminal manner engaging in abuse of power to persecute trump. That's quite different, and legitimate. Every single person who has abused their power to leverage the state's justice apparatus for political purposes should be treated as harshly as possible. Failure to do so signals end of Roman Empire levels of decay.
No he hasnt.
Yes he has.

Stop covering for the guy's awful ideas
For some stupid reason I actually went and looked at this article and there is not one reference to Kash Patel in it.
He's Lying Jeffy for a reason.
It’s a Brian Stelter fear mongering article that conflates facts and the fictions that Stelter is pushing.
But Trump is habitual liar. So why believe him?
Wake me up when he actually tries it. Then I will condemn him for the attempt.
But Trump is habitual liar. So why believe him?
Tell that to his superfans around here who continually insist that we should believe what Trump says. Except when we shouldn't.
HRC's current status as a free individual is evidence contrary
They don't gaslight like the Trump haters.
If you believe what your candidate is saying, that's on you. It's probably not going to be true.
But people who are hell bent on convincing people Trump is a liar should not be pretending otherwise when it's something they fear.
Either Trump lies about everything, or he doesn't.
Poor Jeff.
He spent a whole campaign screaming "Lock her up!" about Hillary Clinton. And then after he won, his actual retribution and vengeful actions on Clinton were...?
Winning again in 2024?
Hasn't she suffered enough?
It was her turn!

I don't think that this is so much for Hunter as it is Joe covering his own ass. If they were to start really digging into what Hunter's done, do you think that it would be very long before they "found" something on Joe?

Which reminds me, where did the Obamas run to?

Cool website
I am alone and the water is so cold.
Doesn't matter. The DOJ has made a determination that Joe Biden presents as a kindly but forgetful elderly man. No jury (in DC) would ever convict him of anything ever.

Brandon, Inc. listens only to its shareholders.

Just when you think maybe, just maybe, we could get through the morning links without a quote from Matt Yglesias. Oh well. Tomorrow's another day.

Only federally.
At least two of those have state-level criminal equivalents (and I don't think Biden cheated on his federal taxes but not his state ones).

Reason has done this for 4 years. We told you all that the Democrats - and Biden specifically - are doing what they accuse others of doing but no, Biden is a 'uniter'. "The adults are back in charge'. 'Trump is sleazy and corrupt'.
And, no offense Wolfe, but you've been on that wagon too.
It's Robby today. I think Liz is on vacation still.
Robby is close enough to Liz in terms of his sentiments that there's no obvious tells in the article, unlike when Boehm or Britschi takes it over.

"Joe Pardons Hunter."
Great.
So, when is Joe going to pardon the J6 political prisoners, or are pardons just for family members?
On the way out the door, Joe will blanket pardon everyone on his staff, every bureaucrat that the GOP might ever be interested in charging or investigating, the Clintons, Obamas, and Cheneys, every donor to Democratic causes, and every government employee right down to your local mailman. The list of people pardoned will be a thousand pages long, just like all the legislation that no one ever reads.
I could care less about Hunter. If he pardons Fauci I'll be furious.
Pretty sure Joe doesn't give a flying fuck about Fauci anymore, if he ever did in the first place.
I love watching Democrats attacking Hunter's felony gun charge.

Biden is a corrupt hypocritical assclown. Film at 11.
I wouldn't call it hypocrisy. Everyone knew he was lying when he said he wouldn't do it. This is about covering his own ass and that of his family members, nothing else.
As far as the pardoning power goes, the only way to put a stop to these blatant favoritism pardons is to get rid of it from the President entirely. I'd actually say that Clinton pardoning FALN and Weather Underground terrorists is a lot worse than this.
Saying someone can't be a hypocrite because everyone knows they were lying is a moral and intellectual accommodation too far for me, personally. The whole point of having lines in the sand is that you won't bargain with people who cross them and simply draw another. If you cannot trust a man who says, emphatically in front of a camera, that he will or won't do something, then his words mean nothing. It means nothing when he disagrees with you, but it also means nothing when he agrees with you. There's nothing to be gained by supporting him. Whether he is "better than the alternative" is unimportant. He's a non-variable in the calculus of public trust.
Donald Trump appoints Kash Patel to head the FBI
Why are Democrats so opposed to the first non-white head of the FBI?
Racism is why Patel will be denied the position.
*Black kid meme voice* “THATS RACIST!”
Whew! Thank God Mr. Soave authored this article. Had it been Sullum, Trump would be unquestionably responsible for Biden's change of heart, the FBI's baseless persecution and spying, and Ohio State's loss. Another bullet dodged.
Check out Lancaster's bite at the apple lol
This total immunity represents a complete and utter betrayal of a campaign promise. When he ran for reelection, Biden told the public in no uncertain terms that a presidential pardon was off the table. He also said, unambiguously, that he "will accept the outcome of this case and will continue to respect the judicial process."
Criminal justice reform is strong with Biden.
I'm going to be guilty of 'whataboutism' here.
What about Donald Trump's pardon of his son-in-law's father, Charles Kushner? At least Biden never nominated Hunter as ambassador to France.
https://www.newsweek.com/list-who-donald-trump-has-pardoned-1993998
Yea, yea, it was just tax evasion (and witness tampering), not a gun paperwork charge in addition to tax evasion.
Tax evasion is practically a good deed in Trump's mind.
I agree Biden is hypocritical about this. If he every complained about Trump's tax evasion pardons he's doubly hypocritical.
Kushner is his son's father-in-law and was pardoned for specific crimes at a specific time.
Hunter is Biden's direct son and was pardoned for literally every federal crime on the books for a period of a decade.
Not quite the same, but then you did preface your comment with the note that it was a fallacy. I'm assuming you wanted us to figure out why it was a fallacy.
It does remind me of Spaceballs when Dark Helmet tells Lone Star "I am your father's, brother's, nephew's, cousin's, former roommate.", but that's probably just me.
……I mean…Tax is theft?
*glances around for IRS agents*
I think the next Democratic party nominee running for president will be a white guy. The Dems have run out of faith in the U.S. capability to elect a woman. Even a minority is riskier than a white guy (preferably straight and Christian). Let the Republicans nominate a woman in an attempt to bring more women over to that side. They have plenty of Trumpy women to choose from.
Y'know what would be a really radical move by Dems? Really out-of-the-box?
Someone qualified.
Remember that time Tulsi Gabbard murdered Kamala Harris in a debate and the Democrat party decided to kick her out and make Kamala the VP?

Forget the FBI, Trump should have put Patel in charge of the CIA to blow their shit wide open.
If Trump tried that, he and Patel would be killed.
Absolutely disgusting and revolting. It further cements Joe Biden as one of the very worst Presidents in the history of the United States.
Even though Hunter was pardoned, the crimes should be exposed and because of the pardon should be pursued more aggressively.
I fully expect Robby to be equally upset about the future pardons of the January 6th coup attempters.
