Forgive Us Our…Loans?
Plus: House speaker battles, a Jesus-themed Trump courtroom sketch, Eric Adams' travel plans, and more...

Biden's revisionist history: This week, President Joe Biden announced he would cancel an additional $9 billion in student loan debt. This consists of "$5.2 billion in additional debt relief for 53,000 borrowers under Public Service Loan Forgiveness programs," per a White House statement, "$2.8 billion in new debt relief for nearly 51,000 borrowers through fixes to income-driven repayment," and "$1.2 billion for nearly 22,000 borrowers who have a total or permanent disability."
In June, the Supreme Court struck down his earlier plan to void $400 billion worth of student debt for some 43 million borrowers: $10,000 in debt (or $20,000 in debt for those who received Pell grants) for individuals making under $125,000 and households making under $250,000.
"The money was literally about to go out the door, but Republican elected officials and special interests stepped up and sued us," Biden commented Wednesday. "The Supreme Court sided with them, snatching from the hands of millions of Americans thousands of dollars in student debt relief that was about to change their lives."
This is some wild revisionist history (special interests?) that attempts to obscure the unconstitutionality of his actions. The Supreme Court ruled that Biden's attempt to push student loan forgiveness through via the HEROES Act—which gave the Education Department the power to modify repayments of loans for people who "suffered direct economic hardship as a direct result of a war or other military operation or national emergency"—was not legal; citing COVID-19 as the qualifying "national emergency" did not fly, and such loan forgiveness would need to be passed through Congress, not unilaterally carried out by the executive.
"While higher education—and particularly graduate school—is too expensive for many students, loan forgiveness does nothing to address the root cause of inflated college tuition," wrote Reason's Emma Camp at the time. "Instead, Biden's plan would have primarily benefited wealthier Americans, and it would have resulted in outstanding student loan debt returning to current levels by 2028." Any additional plans Biden attempts to pass continue to disregard the root of the problem and serve as a blatant ploy to curry favor with voters, fiscal consequences be damned.
Trump goes for Jordan: After this week's historic ouster of House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, some House Republicans looked like they were jockeying to possibly get former President Donald Trump on board with a speaker run, noting that you do not technically have to be a member of Congress in order to seek election. Trump came to Washington, and speculation ensued.
Early this morning, Trump disabused them of that notion. "Congressman Jim Jordan has been a STAR long before making his very successful journey to Washington, D.C.," Trump wrote via Truth Social at 12:13 a.m. on Friday. "He will be a GREAT Speaker of the House, & has my Complete & Total Endorsement!"
Jim Jordan, who represents Ohio's 4th district, "also picked up an important G.O.P. backer and cleared a potential challenger from the field with the endorsement of Representative Byron Donalds of Florida," reports The New York Times.
Scenes from New York:

I was walking through Herbert Von King Park in Bed-Stuy the other day and stumbled across this memorial for social justice activist Ryan Carson, who was murdered at around 4 a.m. on Monday morning at a bus stop in the neighborhood while coming back from a wedding on Long Island.
Since Carson advocated for policies many on right-wing Twitter abhor (including lots of ACAB—"all cops are bastards"—rhetoric), plenty of big accounts have mocked his death or implied he had it coming. This is wrong, and our politics should allow us to mourn the innocent dead, even as we reject their ideologies.
Some interesting discourse about crime and "luxury beliefs" has emerged from this. "In response to elite opinion in 2020, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Seattle, Austin, and many other major cities in the U.S. reduced police spending," writes The Free Press's Rob Henderson. "Most people didn't want to defund the police, but the most affluent sector of society did. And so it was implemented." Though I'm sympathetic to parts of Henderson's hypothesis (and think fully defunding or abolishing the police is a terrible idea), it is worth noting that the reduction in spending on police has been marginal in most of these cities, and it's not like they're operating with skeletal budgets now (NYPD certainly isn't, for example).
QUICK HITS
- "Criticizing school choice opponents for sending their own children to private schools is not an ad hominem attack as I've seen some people argue," writes Chris Freiman on Twitter/X. "That someone sends their own children to a private school rather than a public school is evidence that they believe that private school is, or at least can be, the better option for some students."

- We're in "a zero-sum rhetorical hellscape in which marriage is one of two things," writes Kat Rosenfield for Unherd. "For its supporters, it is the last, best hope of a society on the brink of decline and disaster. For its detractors, it is an insidious ploy by reactionary dinosaurs to catapult us back to a less enlightened paradigm, just as we were nearing the utopian promise of a brave new world."

Jobs report shock: American economy added a stunning 336,000 jobs in September
From CNN's Alicia Wallace, Elisabeth Buchwald, Nicole Goodkind and Krystal Hur
.
Updated 9:23 a.m. ET, October 6, 2023
BUT MAH SPITTIN' TOBACKY COSTS MORE!
Stocks fall to end Wall Street’s worst year since 2008, S&P 500 finishes 2022 down nearly 20%
I'll keep shoving this in your face every time you do your #DefendBidenAtAllCosts gaslighting. 🙂
From CNN’s...
Yeah, the same people who coined the term "horse paste" to describe an effective therapeutic.
And whose "medical expert" went on Joe Rogan and admitted it was a mistake for them to do that --- THEN went right back to calling it that on CNN shortly afterwards.
But I recall when you Republicans cared about the jobs report back when Donnie’s numbers dribbled in a few at a time.
Now +336,000 is just proof the economy sucks.
Understood.
Remember back when wages outpaced inflation?
Good times.
Barely above 2019 numbers.
https://tradingeconomics.com/united-states/employed-persons
Good thing there aren't more people now.
Oh. Still a percent below 2019 on labor participation.

Barely above 2019 numbers.
Above the BESTEST ECONOMY EVER!

turd lies. turd is a lying pile of lefty shit and a pederast besides.

And what idiot (muted) doesn't get
73,000 where from Government. A majority of the rest are part time jobs. Guess what Shrike - part time jobs are a secondary job needed for most people because of Dems
turd, the ass-clown of the commentariat, lies; it’s all he ever does. turd is a kiddie diddler, and a pathological liar, entirely too stupid to remember which lies he posted even minutes ago, and also too stupid to understand we all know he’s a liar.
If anything he posts isn’t a lie, it’s totally accidental.
turd lies; it’s what he does. turd is a lying pile of lefty shit.
Did the Trump administration revise the numbers down every month? You know, like Obama’s and Biden’s.
S&P vs BoLS Job Stats
S&P
Con: Tends to reflect temporary fads, panics, and perceptions.
Pro: Lots of independent witnesses from both sides, the number is real.
BoLS Job Stats
Pro: Reflects economic fundamentals and impact on real people.
Con: Probably fudged a little, and possibly a complete fabrication.
Start now making every month extra $19k or more by just doing an easy online job from home. Last month I have earned and received $16650 from this job by giving this only 3 hrs. a day. Every person can now get this job and start earning online by:-.

"American economy added a stunning 336,000 jobs in September"
Is this like the last time you posted the exact same Biden propaganda and it turned out they'd lost several hundred thousand more than they added?
I bet it is, because you never read your talking points.
I'm going to check.
Many economists don’t believe the numbers. There are multiple strikes going on which should hit the numbers. Total number of unemployed didnt change. Labor rate stayed the same.
https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/jobs-shock-september-payrolls-unexpectedly-soar-336k-biggest-jump-january-and-6-sigma-beat
My guess. They cooked in the ending of the writers strike.
Sure enough, here’s the part that Pluggo left out. How he keeps his job is beyond me.
U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics October Report:
The major labor market indicators from the survey of households showed little or no change over the month. The unemployment rate held at 3.8 percent in September, and the number of unemployed persons was essentially unchanged at 6.4 million. (See table A-1.)
Among the major worker groups, the unemployment rates for adult men (3.8 percent), adult women (3.1 percent), teenagers (11.6 percent), Whites (3.4 percent), Blacks (5.7 percent), Asians (2.8 percent), and Hispanics (4.6 percent) showed little or no change in September. (See tables A-1, A-2, and A-3.)
The number of long-term unemployed (those jobless for 27 weeks or more) was little changed at 1.2 million in September. The long-term unemployed accounted for 19.1 percent of all unemployed persons. (See table A-12.)
Both the labor force participation rate, at 62.8 percent, and the employment-population ratio, at 60.4 percent, were unchanged over the month. (See table A-1.)
The number of persons employed part time for economic reasons, at 4.1 million, changed little in September. These individuals, who would have preferred full-time employment, were working part time because their hours had been reduced or they were unable to find full-time jobs. (See table A-8.)
Among those not in the labor force who wanted a job, the number of persons marginally attached to the labor force changed little at 1.5 million in September. These individuals wanted and were available for work and had looked for a job sometime in the prior 12 months but had not looked for work in the 4 weeks preceding the survey. The number of discouraged workers, a subset of the marginally attached who believed that no jobs were available for them, also changed little over the month at 367,000. (See Summary table A.)
So unemployment stayed the same because as many jobs were lost as added and as usual Pluggo’s handlers say it’s a win.
And as proof Plugstick doesn’t read his own citations, from his CNN article:
“But the “stranger than fiction” jobs report is confusing, because wage growth was slower. Average hourly earnings rose by 0.2% in September, below expectations for an increase of 0.3%.”
"...How he keeps his job is beyond me..."
turd lives in mom's basement.
Fifty cents only goes so far in this economy...
thanks to Bidenomics, its closer to 40 cents now
They just revised August down. Want to take bets?

So it's confusing as hell when you get such large disparities, but I think the data kind of tells the story.
More people left the labor force than entered it.
86k more people were working
At least 123k people took 2nd jobs.
And more people left the labor force than entered.

First the headlines:
Sep nonfarm payrolls jump 336k; Unemployment rate flat at 3.8%; Labor force participation rate remains depressed at 62.8%; Those not in the labor force rose to roughly 5 million more than pre-pandemic - this is artificially pushing down unemployment rate:

Biden "the Republicans won't let us commit bribery and extortion! See the Republicans are bad"
I just want to be able to start paying my remaining loans off again. It's been 3.5 years.
What's stopping you from writing a check to the gov?
The fact that it's managed through a 3rd party provider?
Most loan providers allow you to pay towards principle at any time...
Not these assholes. Believe me I've tried. Several times, over the last 3+ years. I'm sure I've told the story before. Would have been the best time to pay it down.
I got my new auto-pay stuff all set up assuming the payments still get to resume this month, but until they do, I can't even opt to pay double the minimum payment, like I had been doing prior to the pandemic moratorium. At present, my only options to modify the payment amount are to apply to lower it for various reasons, or ask for further deferment.
Did you at least set aside the payments you would have owed in an account so you can request a payoff?
Yep. I have more cash in that account now than I have left in student loans. But the interest rates on the loans is low enough that I'm content to accelerate my payments rather than lump sum it off.
Not to powerlevel yourself too much, but which loan facilitator are you going through?
I'm honestly shocked they wouldn't let you pay down the principle. Guess they expected Santa Biden to write that all down, too.
NelNet. I didn't get to pick them.
You never do get to pick them. They get chosen for you, and then your loan gets sold to some other faceless bank. I’m so glad I paid mine off about a decade ago.
Figures. I had them as well, and trying to figure out how to go about making extra chunk payments to them on separate loans was a pain in the ass back when I was paying mine down. I ultimately just ended up doing it the old-fashioned way by mailing them checks with the loan identifier on it. Once I got down to the primary loan on the account, I just did a huge payment to them every payday until everything got cleared.
Hey, I’m in that boat too.
You actually hit on a typical progressive rhetorical complaint: people who don't let them institute fascism are fascists.
Is Jesus supposed to be Trump's co-defendant or his attorney?

Also moronic, though I think that none of these depictions is quite as moronic as Jon McNaughton’s paintings, e.g. Jesus displaying the Declaration of Independence. (He has some Trump iconography as well.)
Look up the movie "the independant", it stars Jerry stiller and in it there is a clip for a movie called "Jesus for the defence"
Jesus was his own lawyer, and I guess it showed.
If you read the story, Pilate actually refused to condemned Jesus, but did turn him over to the Jewish Council. So, Jesus did win in the Roman Courts. But the Roman policy was to, in most cases, allow local rules for anything but state processes.
NYC Mayor Eric Adams will travel south to…give would-be migrants a stern talking-to OK.

As she gets increasingly bitter about her 2016 defeat -- even when you think there's no way she can -- Hillary Clinton is more and more the liberal id: she just spews what liberals really think and feel but know not to say.
That's where "Basket of Deplorables"™ came from:
Golly gee, why does everyone automatically assume 'communists' every time a prominent Democrat suggests that their political opponents need to attend struggle sessions or be removed from society?
They plan to change the Pledge of Allegiance to say "...and to the democratic republic for which it stands..."
"People's Democratic Republic"
And something about Dear Leader.
Thanks. Yours is better.
It's a pity that no one gets that free people don't have to Pledge Allegiance to anyone or anything.
Well, the original was "National Socialist German Workers' Party". We just have to take out the 'German' and 'national' parts, because today's nazis are world wide.
But we might have to add in Rainbow (and also delete Worker).
These people are the definition of "superiority complex".
Is it possible HRC and The Rev are one and the same?
Early this morning, Trump disabused them of that notion. "Congressman Jim Jordan has been a STAR long before making his very successful journey to Washington, D.C.," Trump wrote via Truth Social at 12:13 a.m. on Friday. "He will be a GREAT Speaker of the House, & has my Complete & Total Endorsement!"
Translated for MAGA - "Jordan kisses my ass so I support him for now".

No they do not deserve to be murdered. For that matter, neither do ISIS members deserve to be murdered (i.e. killed with malice).
There is nothing wrong with pointing out that this guy's daily activities helped create the environment that ultimately killed him- that ultimately brought him a fate he didn't deserve. This isn't gloating, it is facts- important, instructional facts. And it is unfortunate that Wolfe seems to have trouble discerning the difference between pointing out a lesson, and gloating.
The guy also celebrated the deaths of many conservatives. Good for the goose...

hey, I'm not going to mourn the passing of proto-fascists I rather mourn the current state of culture that allows them to grab power.

1) Marxists aren’t human, they are a chancer. Their words not mine
2)see 1
3) I favor the you reep what you sow clause. You push Marxist crap, you deserve 100% income tax, your not allowed to own property, you can’t vote, and you deserver death
At first I refused to comment on this story, not wanting to mock a tragedy. But after I heard his girlfriend refused to identify his killer to the police, I said fuck it, it's too bad the guy didn't kill her too. Good riddance to bad rubbish.
One might think she wouldn't because it's someone she knew, which makes one wonder about a lot of things. Jilted lover, anyone?
Nobody deserves to be murdered, I think, but some people ask for it.
As a reminder, this kind of activist would happily see you have your guns confiscated, your taxes raised through the roof to redistribute your income, your wealth taxed and confiscated, and since they are actual marxists, your private property rights gone.
Oh, and also to flood the streets with the exact type of criminal that ended him.
I dont know if "deserved" is the right word, but it does seem to track
A white guy hanging out on Malcolm X Boulevard at 4 in the morning? He's lucky he lived as many years as he did. I mean, sure, technically he should have the right to stumble drunkenly down that dark alley wearing that mini skirt without being raped, but you're a few fries short of a Happy Meal if you think it's a fine idea.
He didn't stumble drunkenly.
He approached a guy kicking over scooters, at 4am on mlk boulevard in NYC, and yelled at him to stop.
When that guy pulled a knife and told him to leave, he kept at it.
Liz is wrong here. These aren’t simple policy differences like what the tax rate should be, minimum wage, etc. These people have dedicated their lives to using the power of the state to violate our rights in every way, while using violence in the streets to silence people that disagree with them.
^
"This is a rage homicide, it's rare in NYC and thankfully so, but a terrible incident," said Robert Boyce, former NYPD Chief of Detectives and ABC News contributor. "Just walking down the street you get stabbed to death. That's really dangerous for the city to incur. People don't feel safe when this happens."
No shit, Sherlock.

Some slack "engineers" are gaming the system?
Sorry there are no app engineers. App engineers make industrial engineers look like chemical engineers
What about custodial engineers?
One rung higher than industrial engineers.
One rung below sanitation engeneers. I have no idea what it is but the gabagemen that drive the trash trucks are wizards with calming toddlers and babies down.
But Liz...
Biden recognizes the Constitution. Just because he lost at the USSC just months ago.
Still amazing how Trump, who ABIDED by judicial decisions, was an authoritarian and a threat to the country....but Biden, who IGNORES them is not.
Trump, who ABIDED by judicial decisions
Funniest shit ever.
Like when Fatass ignored the 60+ decisions that said there was no fraud in the 2020 election?
False statement as you've been shown hundreds of times at this point. Multiple states admitted to illegal election changes post 2020. Most states refused to investigate. Florida is up to over 1000 election indictments themselves as they actually investigated. Georgia just refused to.
Which is totally the same as doing something that the supreme court just told you was not legal.
Disagreement is not the same a defiance of a court decision.
Many would say that launching an insurrection plot in defiance of those rulings was brazen.
When did Trump do that?
How to say you're a Democrat without actually saying you're a Democrat, Shrike. You just let everything out of the bag with that comment. Thanks for playing.
The illegal and anti-Constitutional attempt to steal the election from Old Joe was criticized by Republicans too.
At least the non-Cult Republicans like Liz Cheney, Romney, etc
And you have any citations that this was illegal and anti-Constitutional, pedo?
And using GOPe jerks as cites like Romney and Cheney doesn't count. They're Democrats in all but name, just like you, twerp.
turd lies when he knows he’s lying. turd lies when we know he’s lying. turd lies when he knows that we know he’s lying.
turd lies. turd is a TDS-addled lying pile of lefty shit and a pederast besides.
yeah – keep repeating that line – maybe one day even you’ll believe it
Until then I guess you'll continue on as a dishonest troll spewing DNC and IC talking points
He can’t help himself.
Many would say "what the fuck are you talking about?". State court rulings about election challenges put zero obligations on Trump one way or another. Defying the supreme court by doing exactly what they said you couldn't do is an entirely different thing even if you believe the nonsense about Trump leading an insurrection.
He's basically just trolling at this point. I don't think he even thinks about what he's posting or if it makes sense. Just as long as it gets a reaction and pisses off his internet enemies.
The TDS-addled lefty shit turd lies. turd lies when he knows he’s lying. turd lies when we know he’s lying. turd lies when he knows that we know he’s lying.
turd lies. turd is a lying pile of lefty shit and a pederast besides.
Many would say that after you were banned from a website for posting a link to child pornography you should not go back to that website.
turd, the TDS-addled ass-clown of the commentariat, lies; it’s all he ever does. turd is a kiddie diddler, and a pathological liar, entirely too stupid to remember which lies he posted even minutes ago, and also too stupid to understand we all know he’s a liar.
If anything he posts isn’t a lie, it’s totally accidental.
turd lies; it’s what he does. turd is a lying pile of lefty shit.
Just 2 years ago Biden pushed mandates through HHS, federal contracts, and federal agencies. Now his EEOC is suing companies that issued mandates. Must need more revenue.
Reason is blocking JTN links again.

Hillary pushes formal deprogramming for Americans who support trump. She is not the only dem who has said this.
https://www.foxnews.com/media/hillary-clinton-floats-formal-deprogramming-trump-supporters-suggests-gop-base-bigots
I’ve seen statements from people on the so-called “center right” like Patterico that anyone who would vote for Trump shouldn’t be a voter, and that “Trump’s supporters should self-deport from public life.” He’s always had an overabundance of self-importance, but the last few months he and his fellow neocons have really gone off the deep end and demonstrated why the GOP base finally got sick of his faction’s fecklessness during their time in charge of the party. If they aren’t indulging in the kind of copium-inhalation that we saw from Hillary suppoters in 2016-2017 (“Here’s how NeverTrump’s preferred candidates can still gain the nomination in 2024!”), they’re still playing as if this is 2005 and they can keep the proles in line through snarky one-liners.
I’ve already gone on record stating that I think Trump’s too fucking old to be running for Prez again, plus the fact that the machine would ramp up into overdrive again like in 2020 to ensure he didn’t win regardless of what the actual votes were, long before all the legal indictments he’s going through started happening. But when self-styled “conservatives” on the center-right, along with someone like Hillary who's in the upper tier of the elites, are declaring that they’re fine with these kind of measures, that’s an indication to me that the country’s effectively finished anyway, it’s just a matter of when it becomes official. Turns out the political realignment going on is simply revealing how invested the center-right really was in maintaining the controlled opposition gentleman’s agreement they’ve had with the left for several decades now, and now that this arrangement has effectively fallen apart, they’re indulging in the kind of rejection-obsessed behavior you see in teenage girls whose crush ended up ghosting them.

It's how democracies remain "stable". How Democracies Die by Ziblatt and Levitsky highlight the importance of a robust but feckless center-right party to soak up and gatekeep revolutionaries while only making marginal systemic changes when in power.
The problem for the 'right' as it were (at least in the United States) is that Trump unleashed the most radical demographic, the Middle American Radical, which upended the Republican Party. They expected things. Here's a "moderate Republican" admitting it
[Link]
Hell, they couldn't even accomplish "marginal" systemic change except in the 1990s when they had large Congressional majorities and Clinton decided to play ball. If they hadn't tripped on their dick trying to get Bill impeached, I suspect a lot of the bullshit that we've dealt with since the 2000 election would have been mitigated.
But this excerpt is illuminating in that the center-right's strategy going back to the 60s, after Goldwater got blown out in 1964 and was painted as a radical extremist through the campaign, was to basically say, "Well, you have to vote for this guy because you don't want the Democrat to win, do you?" And they got away with it for a long time because, yeah, the GOP voters didn't want the Democrat to win.
It basically took someone who wasn't entrenched in the party's organizational structure to obliterate that strategy, in large part because the center-right became too sclerotic and self-indulgent to maintain their hold in a social media-driven world when, at best, their media awareness never evolved past the mid-2000s when blogging was dominant. You can still see this mindset at play with The Dispatch and Bulwark crowds.
And they made a MAJOR tactical error by not only not keeping Jeb Bush from running in 2016, but also immediately promoting him as the party front-runner despite the Bush name being political kryptonite with the party's voters. They could have probably gotten away with pushing guys like Rubio or Cruz who had come in on the Tea Party wave (Rick Wilson, notably, was a big booster of Rubio during his campaign), but boosting Jeb like they did was the main reason Trump decided to run in the first place. He KNEW how much the GOP voters were done with the Bushes and their political faction as limp-wristed sellouts, would see Jeb as a rerun of the Romney campaign, threw his hat in the ring, and went full-bore on Jeb specifically to galvanize his support. The center-right were always politically capable because of their willingness to let the Overton Window continue to get pushed to the left while indulging in "small government" rhetoric, but they never understood that the populist motivations of GOP voters is what really drove them going all the way back to Goldwater.
They weren't "radical", they were sick and tired of empty promises, being ignored (as were working-class Democrats), watching their wages fall relative to inflation, watching their jobs go overseas, watching their elected official get richer off them, and watching certain elements of society (primarily the Left) run roughshod over them, their mores, and their ideas.
They, like Howard Beale, are mad as hell, and they're not gonna take it anymore.
That's radical in the current environment
In a mad world, the position of reason is radical.
The right has always been a somewhat disunited coalition, between the Rockefeller, country club right and the small town, individualistic, working class right (meant more as a description of mentality than a description of geographical distribution). It's become more so since Goldwater and Reagan. But the country club right has always been in power for the most part. The problem for them is that the working class right has always been more popular. What has shifted is many of the country club scene has drifted into the left, while the working class left has drifted right. You have a few dinosaurs of both variety left, still trying to survive after the political asteroid hit the the Proverbial Yucatan peninsula. These are the Manchin, Sinema, McCarthy, Graham, McConnells trying desperately to prop up a system that society has moved on from. Eventually it will either sort itself out peacefully, or things will get real bad. And it's not just America but the west that is going through this upheaval. Unfortunately, history tends to say these upheavals rarely end peacefully. We can only hope that this one is the exception.
So maybe Biden's "climate corps" will be put to work building the camps?
Among other wonderful things.
“Clinton continued, “Because at some point, you know, maybe there needs to be a formal deprogramming of the cult members, but something needs to happen”. That remark appeared to amuse Amanpour, who could be seen gleefully reacting to Clinton.”
Those two, reminds me of Barbara Walters interviewing fucking Castro.
Did the two sea gags make out at the end of the interview?
“Sea Hags”, but autocorrect wasn’t off by much.
Criticizing school choice opponents for sending their own children to private schools is not an ad hominem attack as I've seen some people argue...
The-consequences-of-my-actions attacks must be reserved for COVID-deniers who died with COVID or the like.
Don't get how anti-school choice activists can remotely claim that noting that they do not public schools is an "attack". It a statement of fact.
You should take a psychology class or read Alinsky's book.

this is unironically how white liberals think the world works
some doughy white professional realizes that if you just reddit talk with enough sarcasm, you can talk down people trying to stab each other, and ofc it works because deep down everyone is really an upper middle class white in their heart.
Gotta love the ones where there is some police officer that is ready to take action, but a brave stunning person (often woman of color) then steps in, tells the cop to stand down, and talks the deranged person down.
They think this cartoon in their head is real. Its a magical thinking cult
I still the video of white dudes celebrating BLM protests in 2020 and then they have bricks chucked through their windows while they cry "We're on your side!"
Pure hilarity.
After the first cut to the Doughboy, I thought he was strapped. Nope, nice manpurse.
LA schools, tops in the nation in reading and math, have so much time they are hosting a week of indoctrination.

In the 2020s gender-queer theory is reading and math.
"Some interesting discourse about crime and "luxury beliefs" has emerged from this."
Liz definitely doesn't travel in ENB circles.
ENB's tunnel vision focus on abortion, weed, and sex work, while rabid left wing activists are indoctrinating kids, laughing at the constitution, and migrants are overwhelming major cities, is probably the perfect example of out of touch AWFLs with luxury beliefs.
it'll still get the 'well-meaning' nod, though.
Anyone else notice that chat gpt sounds like a 12 year old that found a thesaurus?

Sarckles would've screamed "Moose Fucker!!!1!!" and then ran away.
Never mind that there are moose in Maine, and Sarc might just be projecting there.
A moose once bit my sister
Mynd you, moose bites Kan be pretti nasti.
Do Maine moose hang out under the overpass? Because if they do, sarc’s definitely fucked one.
The only question is, was it while he was drunk or sober?
No moose would get that drunk
When has sarc ever been sober?
A researcher got chatGPT to admit it has a blacklist. Since it uses mostly liberal websites, it makes sense.
Just so we're keeping score: The Biden DOJ is suing SpaceX for not hiring refugees, the DOJ and SEC are investigating Tesla, the EEOC is also suing Tesla, the FTC demanded Elonmusk hand over internal Twitter comms and the SEC is now investigating Elon's purchase of Twitter.
And I'm sure it has nothing at all to do with Elon getting rid of old Twitter's censorship regime and releasing the Twitter files which deeply embarrassed the Biden administration.
Just a coincidence that it all happened at once …
I'm just glad the government is not weaponized against its foes.
Zero difference now between the Biden administration and Maduro or Franco.
Or, for that matter, Juan or Benito.
Franco was definitely more intellectually competent than the Biden admin.
Maduro MIGHT be.
Otherwise, yes, no difference.
Strange how this kind of thing doesn't make Reason.
I suppose it's as sarcasmic always says; "Just because Reason doesn't cover every paradigm-breaking instance of incipient fascism, doesn't mean it's deliberately ignoring it."
Sarc doesn't use big words.
I doubt he'd comprehend such verbiage in any case.
The one that is really pissing me off is the complete lack of coverage of the Newsweek story on the FBI targeting Trump supporters. Come on, dunking on federal cops is Reason's bread and butter.
They'd have to admit to weaponization of the law and institutions if they did.
Robby and a few others have come damned close. Fuck even a few leftists are now saying that the attacks against Trump have crossed the line. It's getting harder to ignore and memory hole. And the harder they try the less people believe them. It's reaching critical mass.
I think some of them like Robbie or Liz probably would. The only possible reason I can think of as to why they're not covering such a monumentally important story, is that Koch has given explicit orders not to.
That withered old asshole has stolen the magazine and foundation away from the members, subscribers and donators.
3000 word Sullum article on the seriousness of the prosecution's case.
Definitely not fascism. How could it be, they are the anti-fascists!
Literal fascism.
Justice is blind. These prosecutors have just dispassionately observed crimes and violations occurring and are investigating them non-politically.
I don't get the SpaceX thing. I occasionally do contract work for an aerospace and defense manufacturer, and I consistently am required to prove my citizenship and go through background checks to do that work.
It is required for any technology under ITAR or Ex/Im restrictions. Even a non citizen seeing a piece of hardware is an export.
nit-pick: A refugee with a work permit can still be hired.
Definitions:
Refuge with work permit: Anyone who did an end-zone dive across the border and spent ten minutes talking to a Biden official.
Not for materials under export control. Even gets dicey with green cards.
Wouldn't giant freaking rocket ships capable of reaching the moon generally be under export control?
The absurdity is the point. Sends quite the message, no?
^This.
They can't really do much to hurt Musk right now except shoot him, and the DOD and NASA still need him, so this is about sending a message to slightly less rich and important mavericks.
There’s got to be a way to get rich off wealthy, virtue signaling Tesla owners.
Now that Elon Musk has been labeled “
Enemy of the StateFar Right MAGA Monster” by the Biden administration, there must be thousands of them looking to unload their planet-saving Tesla’s.Buy back program? Maybe throw in a free BART pass for the year? Trade in for a used Nissan Leaf?
“…..which deeply embarrassed the biden administration.”
Not sure they’re capable of that. KJP was hilarious yesterday talking about “complying with law” on the border wall.
A cohencidence.

It's strange how absolutely shook these people are when it happens to them, considering how casual and dismissive they are to the suffering of anyone who isn't part of some protected class they've adopted like a rescue pitbull or their fellow activists.
I remember after January 6th, when I referenced that I knew Ashli Babbitt from a deployment we were both on in the military and what she was like. I remember getting close to 100 random DM's about her being in hell, pissing on her grave, how she deserved it, etc etc.
I wasn't even actively going after the capitol police dude who shot her, I didn't even mention him. Just was like "Damn I saw the girl who got live on a stream aggregator and didn't even know it was someone I knew personally until like the next day."
And that's just a personal anecdote, but it's not like they were graceful about Rittenhouse and the 3 rioters who all happened to be some combo of convicted pedophile/armed communist with a felony/convicted domestic abuser. They wanted that kid dead.
Or Daniel Penny, it's not like he was the only one who was holding that crazy black dude down, there was a black guy and a hispanic guy helping him. They wanted him dead because apparently putting a stop to the same kind of violence that killed Ryan Carson is verboten.
So you aren't allowed to stop it, you aren't allowed to laugh at the absurdity of it. They want you to just ignore it and depending on who the victim is, it's either "thoughts and prayers" or utter silence.
Nashville school shooting and the lefty response was cricket chirps at best and outright shamelessness at worst, and it was kids dying.
Or how about when Antifa murdered Aaron Danielson in cold blood out in a parking garage? That's the killer, Michael Reinoehl, lying in wait in the garage for him.
He had the US Marshals after him and VICE met him in the woods for an interview pretending it was self-defense.
And the same people crying crocodile tears didn't just stay silent during Floyds summer, they were actively cheering on blacks as they ruined the livelihoods of tons of innocent people, even taking a few of their lives.
"They have insurance"
So yeah, I am absolutely laughing when some soyanim gets filleted like a fish by one of the housepets he advocates for. And all these progs and women act in faux horror
"Oh my gosh what a psychopath" when they have too much cognitive dissonance to care or realize.. lmao
Be callous, be a hypocrite, be tribalistic. It's what the left has done for decades because *it works*.

Tim Scott attempts to beef up his ladyboy image with RAW WWE verbiage:
Republican presidential candidate and South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott joked to Iowans on the campaign trail that he watched professional wrestling to prepare for his more aggressive posture in last month's second presidential debate.
.
"My first debate, I thought it was going to be this adult conversation. Lord, have mercy on my soul. The second debate … I started watching WWE wrestling and figured out how to get in the game," he said, drawing laughs from the audience at his Tuesday night town hall in Van Meter, Iowa.

Wow, SPB attacking a black guy again.
Good play, Adolf.
I mean, good on Tim Scott for finally realizing that modern politics involves getting the best snaps for the soundbites, but this is just sad and an indication that he's nowhere near ready for primetime.
" good on Tim Scott for finally realizing that modern politics involves getting the best snaps for the soundbites"
Trump might have prepped for some of his 2015 campaign speech spots by watching Hogan or Flair promos.
Worked too
To be fair, Trump was already marinated in that environment--he'd been involved with WWE programs during his Apprentice run, hosted Wrestlemanias at Trump Plaza, and was even in the WWE Hall of Fame when he decided to run. And given his career, he and pro wrestling were clearly made for each other.
I'd honestly die laughing if he did a reboot of Dusty Rhodes' "Hard Times" promo.

I don't see anything wrong with pointing out that an activist's preferred policies, as implemented, contributed to his demise.
Is it wrong to notice that his girlfriend refused to give a description of his attacker to the police, in line with her own activism? (I'm not even going to mention her large GoFundMe campaign)
What if some people point out how it's weird that CBS blurred out the suspect's face when he was arrested? (They also did it in the surveillance video of the stabbing)
https://twitter.com/EndWokeness/status/1709996669121491389

This is what happens when people care more about the drug addled schizo who stabbed someone than the person who was stabbed. I'm guessing his girlfriend must not have had very deep feelings for him beyond what his death can net her financially. There's some truly despicable people in this world, and we're completely fucked.
Leftists aren't people.
This, stop referring to a proggie as a person, it has proven time and time again that it has no humanity
Yeah, dehumanizing political opponents always leads to good things.
And if those people have already dehumanized us, and want to send the state after us to violently infringe on our rights?
And I’m sincere in the question. Prior to 2016 my response would have been similar to yours, but the left has become explicit in their desires.
Now we have the FBI labeling most people not on the left as enemies of the state. We just had the previous democrat presidential candidate calling for reeducation. The dead guy in question was on record celebrating the death of his political opponents. Remember what was said about those of us that didn’t get the vax, even right here in these very comments?
How should we react to these people?
So the answer is to start killing people? That seems like the next step after celebrating a murder because the victim "isn't really a person". Dehumanizing the enemy is what communists and fascists do. If we go down that road we have lost. We'll create the chaos that the really hard core marxist fucks want and that is when really evil people take power.
I never said anything about killing them personally, just not caring that the violent criminals they put above us doing it.
Actually, dehumanizing the enemy is what every military does. Read Eisenhower's personal journals lamenting that the problem with the US Army's performance before Katarine Pass was that they hadn't learned to hate the Germans. Read the reason why the US Army went to silhouette targets instead of circle targets to practice BRM. The fact is, hating the enemy is not something that only fascists and communists do, it's something all movements do that are successful at some point. We are social creatures and thus empathy can be a major detriment when you are involved in a struggle. Unfortunately, dehumanizing your opponent is often necessary to achieve success. There is a danger to this, and it can be taken to far, but it's also an inescapable fact that if you empathize with your opponent your doomed to fail, especially if they don't empathize back.
And at this point I truly believe we are faced with an existential threat to our way of life by the left. The attacks against Trump, Musk and now according to Newsweek Trump supporters by those in power is shit I never thought I'd see in the modern US (yeah McCarthy but he destroyed himself because people realized how dangerous he was, even if he was right). The left truly has turned into a global fascists (as opposed to national fascists) movement. And I am not being hyperbolic. They want to control all aspects of business and life, but leave the illusion of personal property. They want us all to subsume our liberties to the needs of society. Yeah, a few still are Marxist, but there were a lot of fascists who were unhappy that Italy, Spain and Germany weren't more socialists, while they also remained fascists.
Yeah, sure. And that's because you are trying to kill the enemy in a war. I still like to think that civil war isn't inevitable in the US.
Civil War is rarely inevitable but often becomes so because those in power refuse to change. What we are seeing is a true political realignment in society. The scary thing is that those who have had the power for fifty years or so are becoming desperate and striking out more. This generally is what causes civil war. Not the people's actions but the elites trying desperate to stop something inevitable. It's what started the Peasants Revolt. The English Civil War. The American and French Revolutions and the American Civil War. In every case, society was changing away from the way elites wanted and elites tried to reinforce their positions leaving the people with no foreseeable recourse but violence. In the American Civil War it was the land rich elites of the South vs the growing industrialized north. Slavery was redundant, even counterproductive in an industrialized society. The southern elite we're trying hard to reinforce a system which was no longer accepted by a large portion of society and was growing less feasible as machinery replaced manpower, even in agriculture. The south resorted to violence to maintain a dying system.
The dying system today is globalization, not so much that international trade is bad, but the idea that national interest and individual interest can be submitted to a greater good. People are realizing the limits of Wilsonian, FDR, Trumanesque international order, the feckleness of their utopian thinking, and the elitism inherent in these systems. But the proponents of these systems refuse to read the writing on the wall. They ignore the growing signals that their utopia has a serpent in the garden. They look at the rise of right groups in Eastern and Central Europe, the failure of Sweden's compassionate judicial system, the TEA party and Trump as the death throws of the old system, despite the fact that these only have occurred because what the elites offered failed the masses.
No, Civil War is not inevitable but it's becoming more so because the elites, both left and center right, have refused to see that what they promised hurt more people than it helped.
“ The southern elite we’re trying hard to reinforce a system which was no longer accepted by a large portion of society and was growing less feasible as machinery replaced manpower, even in agriculture. The south resorted to violence to maintain a dying system.”
That’s a really interesting way to look at the situation, soldier. I completely agree.
Soldiermedic76, +1. I'd have to agree. And this enemy, the elites, are in the process of dehumanizing us, if they haven't already.
The elites always dehumanize those they feel elite too. What is happening is people are growing more aware that elitists never valued them as humans.
Well said Soldier
It’s a huge leap for most people from laughing at someone’s death to actually doing the killing.
Also, Really evil people are already in power though.
It can always get worse.
I don't give a fuck if people make fun of the dude or laugh about how he died and the irony of the situation. He's an ass and behaved stupidly and supported really stupid stuff. But he is a person and I'm not going to celebrate anyone getting murdered.
Not celebrating so much as pointing out that he reaped what he sowed. He had to live and die by the same rules he wanted and advocated everyone else to live by. It's like watching Robespierre beheaded. The danger is is that we have reached a point where a reign of terror is inevitable rather than a peaceful paradigm shift or at worst a short and bloody conflict followed by the a peaceful birth of a new system, i.e, the American Revolution vs The French Revolution. History isn't hopeful that elites can be disenfranchised peacefully but if any system can do it, the US is the best system for doing so. Our best hope for avoiding violence may very well require us to shame and ridicule the elite. To point out the folly of their plans. Shame and embracement are often great motivators for change. And sometimes that requires ridicule.
I understand, I just don’t begrudge anyone having more edge than that.
“It can always get worse.”
It most likely will.
Zeb, you're not expressing moral principles, just weakness
Oh, right, I forgot strength means being a dick to everyone who disagrees with you on the internet.
No, strength means admitting the truth of your circumstances and not hiding behind imaginary utopian "should be"s.
You can virtue signal all you want about humanist values, but it won't save your family or improve their lives.
All it will do is foster weakness that invites aggression.
And those "people" you talk about are your enemies, despise your humanity, and will come for you and yours.
Oh for fucks sake, Nardz.
The irony is that ending slavery actually brought these elites more prosperity. Renting out their land via the sharecropping system allowed them better utilize the system with fewer resources.
Oops posted on wrong spot.

'We're in "a zero-sum rhetorical hellscape in which marriage is one of two things," writes Kat Rosenfield for Unherd. "For its supporters, it is the last, best hope of a society on the brink of decline and disaster. For its detractors, it is an insidious ploy by reactionary dinosaurs to catapult us back to a less enlightened paradigm, just as we were nearing the utopian promise of a brave new world."'
And for Thomas Sowell and others, it is the most compelling correlation with misguided social welfare policy and destruction of black families and culture.
Unherd = clever name.
It’s easy and safe to be in one or other of these two camps – defensive liberal or angry reactionary - but UnHerd is trying to do something different, and harder.
.
We want to be bold enough to identify those things that have been lost, as well as gained, by the liberal world order of the past 30 years; but we strive to be always thoughtful rather than divisive.
.
We are not aligned with any political party, and the writers and ideas we are interested in come from both the Left and Right. But we instinctively believe that the way forward will be found through a shift of emphasis: towards community not just individualism, towards responsibilities as well as rights, and towards meaning and virtue over shallow materialism.

But what you really miss is the neocon, establishment-progressive, bien-pensant ramblings of ENB, don't you.
Anthropologically speaking marriage, or at least some form of long term domestic partnership, is one of the keys that made human civilization so successful. It allowed and continues to allow the most equal distribution of domestic work, allowing free time and prosperity necessary to advance. Without it, you expend more energy with less return. Yeah, there are successful single people and successful single parents but they on average spend more time and resources than someone involved in a domestic partnership of some sort to achieve that success. It's complimentary and generally also more emotionally fulfilling. Additionally, monogamy or at least small group polygamy, likely predates homo sapiens and was critical in our evolution.
It also provides intellectual and moral guidance for raising children. I believe the absence of fathers is a direct factor in the dominance of gang culture, and the near-hopeless culture of too many urban groups.

C'mon, Nance, don't leave out the fact that Klaus Schwab was a prodigee of Henry Kissinger and John Galbraith, or that the WEF is basically a decades-long CIA project.
Or the fact that he was born in Germany in 1938 which means he most certainly would have been exposed to Hitler Youth propaganda in his formative years. I'm not saying he's a Nazi, but...
Schwab's a fucking Nazi in all but name.
He literally helped Nazis confiscate Jew’s property and is on video defending his actions.
You're confusing Schwab with Soros. Schwab's dad did actually work on the German A-bomb project, but I wouldn't call him a Nazi, just a technocrat with a god complex.
According to Politico, being a "nazi" is complicated, unless you're wearing a MAGA hat, then it's dead-fucking-simple.
You’re confusing Schwab with Soros.
Yep, Schwab would have been only 7 when the war ended, so he would have been too young to have actively participated in any of the Nazi's atrocities and war crimes. But being exposed to the propaganda as he most assuredly would have been would have to have shaped his worldview. Probably explains his love of the State and desire to control people "for their own good." Even if he doesn't believe all the rest of the Nazi garbage ("master race," occult bullshit, etc.) he still believes in the fascist ideal of an all powerful State ruling over everyone.
Soros was 14 or so when the nazis gained power in Hungary. His parents fled and set him up with some bureaucrat to pose as his kid. Teen Soros, since he knew the community so well, was tasked with identifying Jews and telling them to leave immediately. He then had early access to all the property they had to leave behind.
Yes, my mistake.
Nancy got some big store-bought biscuits on her. I don't know when she bought them but they were surely useful as a Waffle House waitress - swinging them around while she refilled coffee.
I thought she'd be too old for you, Shrike.
She was on Bill Maher's show earlier in the year. Very engaging personality. Not a dried-up MAGA whore like MTG at all.

What's your take on Maher now that he's gone heretic, Shrike?

[Link]
This specific one is tiresome as well. Everyone seems to think they actually grew up poor or working class. They seem to think anything short of being in the royal family equates to "working class".
Does Posh Spice (Victoria Beckham) think "doesn't work for a living" is still the indicator of the upper class in England? Even if that's true, she's forgotten that there is a class between working class and upper class, even though both her and her husband were born middle class at different levels. Her father was an electronics engineer, so he was paid very well, but he worked for the money to buy that Rolls. In contrast, David's father was a kitchen fitter, which I assume is paid similarly to construction work in the USA - decent pay, but you won't get rich unless you become the owner of a construction business.
As an American Football fan I have a new found respect for Beckham's ability to kick it between the uprights.
You must be a bears fan
bamo Osos.
Those Bears couldn't maul anyone, even if they popped out of Jeffy's trunk.
Don't make it gay.
I don't know who either of these people are (part of the Kardashian clan maybe?) so I'm just going to refer to them as "Stupid Bint" and "Some Guy."
Stupid Bint: "We were very working class..."
...
Some Guy: "What car did your dad drive you to school in?"
SB: After some hemming and hawing: "OK, in the 80s my dad had a Rolls Royce."
SG: "Thank you," shuts door.
BWAAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!11!!!!! The lack of self awareness and disconnection from reality is the most hilarious part.
LOL! That was funny. A Rolls is a far cry from the Dodge Aries we had, and I would've considered us "middle class".
The other entertaining aspect to all this:
That "Bint" is Victoria Beckham, who was one of the spice girls long ago (the hottest of them, IMO), and was known as "Posh Spice".
That's right, when picking characteristics (others were "ginger" spice, who had red hair, "sporty" spice, who wore a sports bra and track pants), she chose the adjective that the english use to mean "fancy, upper class, well-to-do, the opposite of working class"
I think it's hilarious that David Beckham, former #1 soccer star in the world, calls her out.
It's probably just a marketing gimmick, but I think David did come from a fairly working class family.
if they didn't stick him in ManU's child academy he'd have been a Full Monty character.
What else could he do with such symmetric features?
That's how I read the interaction, having had similar identical conversations with buddies I grew up with (and am friends with to this day).
"Look where we are now, and to think we grew up poor!"
"...your parents had a lake house, I took out a quarter of a million dollars in student loans...I love you man, but we are not the same"
Looks that way. According to Wiki, his father was a kitchen fitter, and his mother was a hairdresser.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Beckham
There is also, of course, the patriarchy reminding the spoiled, 8 yr. old adult woman that just because her Dad’s dead, that doesn’t mean everyone just believes she’s a lady in the street and a freak in the bed.
Even if they bought a Rolls Royce together, today, split 50/50 down the middle. What’s the percentage of his that was paid for in sweat, running for hours up and down the pitch relative to her percentage that was paid for in minutes of dancing in lingerie and recording in the studio?
The part that gets me about it is that she claimed she could leap the Atlantic, on camera, and he said no. Meaning pretty much everywhere else, off camera, among her female cohort and away from him, they have almost certainly been bullshitting each other and huffing each others’ farts about how they could leap the Thames.
omg why does Becks hate Posh?
Still would.
In retrospect, and no longer a 12/13 year old, she was really the only attractive one in that group.

This is outright blasphemy, and that the Christian Right is still rallying behind this man is disgusting.
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’” – Matthew 7:21-23

Which is at least a little ironic, since it's one person without any Christian sensibilities calling out someone else who also does not have any Christian sensibilities.
I.E. It's a 'criticism' meant to distance those who DO have Christian sensibilities from a particular politician that they don't like for totally unrelated reasons.
Notice they don't state what the real reasons are, they instead make criticisms that they don't care about hoping that someone else will.
Weird, right?

Yeah, I want everyone to get along. The alternative isn't going to be good for anyone.

Zeb, I used to be like you, but I'm seeing fewer peaceful options. I'm hopeful but think, looking at the west in general, we're quickly running out of time to correct the ship. I pray I am wrong but I strongly suspect I am not, unfortunately. Also, losing is far worse more often than not.
I won't deny that it's possible it will come to that. I'm a lot less optimistic than I once was too.
At some point, it's not about winning, but about survival and self-defense. Your enemies may be the ones shooting (even if proverbially) first. They declared war on you, and that means, even with the NAP, you must defend yourself and those with you. And in self-defense, unlike that idiot in NYC the other day, you play to win as winning means you're still alive at the end of it.
You shouldn't be surprised, but you're committed to denial

"Most people didn't want to defund the police ... and so it was implemented."
I want to defund the Narcotics Divisions and the War on Drugs. I want to defund routine police patrols. I want to defund community policing under the "broken windows" myth. I want communities to fund only emergency police response to reports of crimes in progress; police and prosecutor investigations of reports of actual crimes; and I want to fund search and arrest warrants based solely upon non-fraudulent, non-boilerplate police affidavits with probable cause. I want to defund abusive investigative and prosecutorial misconduct and police collective bargaining. I want to fund prosecution of police officers and officials with probable cause that they committed crimes.

Open Society doesn't believe in punishing murderers and other violent criminals under the law, if they are black.
Most modern-day enlightened people believe that everyone should be treated equally under the law, and neither unduly punished, nor falsely exonerated, based on immutable physical traits like race or sex or the like. But not SPB2's racist overlords.
If the politics fits, you must acquit. All others will be punished.
Routine police patrols? That's actually the best way to prevent crime. Police presence is a deterrent and it also helps them solve crimes because, especially foot patrols, it builds a relationship with the community.
I actually want more police foot patrols. Get them out of their cruisers and walking the streets meeting people, building relations, showing the colors.

Liberals win on the abortion issue because they act from recognizance of this heretofore unarticulated truth in the debate (the particular circumstances of a potential life vs one in progress are, of course, contentious in relative value):
Not all lives are equal
That is true
Whenever conservatives ask for:
- immigration restriction
- increased punishments for criminals
- economic protections (as of late)
- nationalist policies in general
They are asserting that truth - that not all lives are equal - sometimes they'll say it explicitly then, also
The public at large, which is not ideological or intelligent, but canny enough to understand when they're being bullshitted, can tell when conservatives assert - even from a place of Christian morality - "all lives are equal" (or "all lives matter") they don't *really* mean it
If they meant it, they wouldn't be able to do the thing they are actually useful for - the thing which distinguishes them from liberals fully in sway to the evolved tradition of late Liberalism, btw - which is discriminating between, making no apology for innate differences.
[Link]
Classical Liberals: Do we sacrifice one innocent life to save 10 lives, 100 lives, 1,000 lives?
New Liberals: I don't care if it saves any lives, we ought to be able to terminate innocent lives out of convenience. It's the thing Conservative Christians would do if they were honest.
Again, I didn't generally used to believe in the Devil or a broad, malevolent evil waiting to snatch peoples' minds and souls, but these people make it seem more real than any Church sermon ever could.
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name......
I'm not clear on what equality of life has to do with immigration or punishment for criminals.
Apparently if you believe in borders that should be controlled and that we shouldn't welcome literally anyone who just happens to walk across into the country with open arms, you just hate immigrants and see them as "less than." Likewise, if you believe violent criminals should be punished for their crimes, you see them as "less than."
I don't know where, outside the author's head, "All lives are equal" is even a thing, Conservative or other. I've heard "All men are created equal." and "Everyone is presumed innocent before the law equally." and even "All lives matter". But I've, not really mysteriously either, never heard "(Not) All lives are equal" until this person started talking about abortion.
Poorly written drivel designed to make the author look intelligent while saying nothing of substance.
I'd even go beyond "look intelligent" to "give the false impression of intelligence". The word "recognizance" doesn't mean what the author thinks it means. It's not a synonym for either cognizance or recognition.
"Criticizing school choice opponents for sending their own children to private schools is not an ad hominem attack"
While this is true as far as it goes, it obscures some important detail: some opponents of school choice oppose it because they don't want tax revenues to help fund private enterprise. If you oppose "school choice" in the sense that you think every child should be required to attend tax-funded public schools and then send your child to a private school, it undermines your position against private schooling - unless, of course, you believe that public schools would be great for their own children if only private schools were outlawed. So the issue is much more complex than simply "ad hominem" attacks.
This is wrong, and our politics should allow us to mourn the innocent dead, even as we reject their ideologies.
Leftie gets stabbed. Surviving lefties obfuscate on behalf of murderer. Everyone else wonders out loud why anyone would obfuscate on behalf of a stranger who would murder a friend. Liz Wolfe insinuates that it's because they're all Republicans pouncing.

When you dig deeper than just counting how many dollars were spent on paper clips and post-it notes that fell under "police budget" on the city council spreadsheet, what you discover in reality is there was a major, and sudden push to de-emphasize policing, allow positions vacated by officers retiring or quitting to remain vacant, and to put a massive level of race-based public scrutiny on every incident of policing- which led to major changes in street-level police behavior, notably- they stopped doing it.
Alongside that were placed systems of reduced or eliminated sentencing, legalization of shoplifting, diversion programs,
second/third/fourth/fifth/sixth/seventh[...]four hundredth chances by prosecutorial edict which led to a kind of culture of hip-swiveling do-what-you-want-man attitude among people who bear the mark of "unrestrained human wickedness".This further led to a sudden and rapid RE-funding of the police in one of the most stunning, what-who-me? political reversals I've witnessed in my lifetime. However, the funding wasn't the real issue-- the decriminalization, four-hundredth chance, did-you-say-anything-mean-while-arresting-the-murderer policies remain and we have what we have.
When you dig deeper than just counting how many dollars were spent on paper clips and post-it notes that fell under “police budget” on the city council spreadsheet, what you discover in reality is there was a major, and sudden push to de-emphasize policing, allow positions vacated by officers retiring or quitting to remain vacant, and to put a massive level of race-based public scrutiny on every incident of policing- which led to major changes in street-level police behavior, notably- they stopped doing it.
Yeah, the funding is incidental to the actual administrative practices, especially in the age of inflation. Spending the same amount on the police department that you did in 2019 doesn't really mean shit when that amount is worth about 10% less, at least, which effectively makes it a cut.
That was the same dynamic as Carter's defense budgets--DoD actually got more money than each year before it during his term, but inflation was so bad that the increases weren't keeping up and it was effectively a de facto cut.
Yet, the fact of the matter was, they DID move to defund the police, and it is a matter of gold-plated record. But again, as I say above, it was one of the swiftest political reversals I've ever seen because the results showed up almost immediately.
If I say, "I have a Final Solution to the Jewish Problem" and then I don't fully implement it, am I any less a Nazi?
BTW, here it is in black and white as to how the defunding effort played out:
Not to get all Jordan Peterson on everyone here, but to get all Jordan Peterson: It's a lot easier to make a complex system worse than it is to even marginally improve it.
By simply shifting crap around, playing games with departmental budgeting categories, they "defunded" the police by 13%. Yet the cultural cloud that was put over the police department kicked off a mass resignation and environment of 'under policing'.
a lead organizer of Decriminalize Seattle.
And decriminalize Seattle they did.
The police killing of George Floyd,....you mean the fentanyl overdose from George Floyds drug addiction.
Yeah, the Soros prosecutors had more to do with this than the actual dollars that went to the police unions.
The roots of the military recruitment crisis and police recruitment crisis is the same. The ridiculing of duty, and those who voluntarily serve others. The painting of all by the bad behavior of a few. The frustration of doing a largely thankless job, with rules that make your job even easier harder while at the same time the very people who you volunteered to protect call you bastards, baby killers, racist etc because some numbnuts broke the rules or because it's the cool thing to do.
As much as polite society would like to believe the opposite, all societies require the warrior, the sheepdogs that give their own to protect their flock. Of those who choose this path, about half are just trying to get by, a quarter are doing it for the glory, maybe ten percent are the true hard hitters that insure success or failure when called upon. And maybe five percent or less are the bad apples, who do it for the power. (yes I know ten percent is unaccounted for, but their reasons/usefulness is much harder to categorize). We need the fifty percent who are just getting by, the ten percent who are hard hitters and even the 25% who are seeking personal or national glory (especially National glory). Hell, even the 10% uncategorized. But focusing on the five percent or less is what society to often does, to the detriment of the 95% of others that are necessary. Also, generally speaking, the five percent aren't even popular with the 95%, who would welcome real reform and would be willing to work to achieve it. Right up until they are attacked and condemned for the acts of the five percent. Then their natural inclination (as everyone's is) is to close ranks, even with those they dislike and would gladly eliminate under any other situation.
Random thought of the day:
If my local daily does ONE more fucking tongue-bath article on Megan Rapinoe...
Not having heard anything about her in months, are we talking more of a group tongue-bath with pictorial sort of thing or more one-on-one?
>>>tongue-bath article on Megan Rapinoe…
dude. why?
I think she just retired and so there's literally been a slew of "Hot!" articles on Megan Rapinoe... headlines just over the last day or so:
That's all from just the last 48 hours.
That's the magic of a captive press.
Seriously, my only impression of that chick is that she turned an entire nation against USA Women's soccer. Well everyone except Seattle, obviously. There's she's so stunning, so brave, it seems.
People who cared before rooted against them in the last cup, the people who didn't care (which were legion, nobody really gives a shit about women's soccer) now do care, and root against them. Good job parrothead.
^this. Never was a huge soccer fan, but when US women's soccer did start performing well, I initially supported it. Then Rapinoe opened her hole and completely turned me off. Kinda where I'm at with the NFL and NCAA too. Thank God for small town high school football. And it's actually far more exciting with no damn commercials, though refs flagging the home team for the audience pisses me off. What better way to prove you aren't a biased ref against our tean than flagging our team for the crowd calling out a bad call you made. That sure showed us (I haven't personally been flagged but did get warned once and I wasn't even yelling just making a comment on the sidelines the line judge overheard and didn't like).
Commie-Education attendants get to use gov-guns against those 'icky' people and make them pay for their education?

Who had it coming, in most-to-least order:
1. Jeffrey Epstein
2. Joseph Rosenbaum
3. Ryan Carson
4. Seth Rich
5. Ashley Babbitt
Edit: Go ahead. Tell me I'm being political.
No President can WRITE LAW. He an only sign laws made by Congress. No President can legally re-direct the budget or add to the budget passed by congress.
Bottom line, Biden is committing a CRIMINAL ACT in attempting to force the taxpayer to pay private industries that hold these notes the money and forgive the debt signed for by individuals.
If Biden was even a Governor, in most states he would be subject to arrest for conversion of funds. In our system he must be tied by congress before he can be arrested.
How about it Congress? isn't it time to arrest this CRIMINAL?
Hey, consequences are racist!
When I was young the book the "Peter Principle" was published and explained the idea that a person is promoted to the level where they are incompetent. All I am wondering if that will happen with Jim Jordan.
"What a non comment."
Lefty shit piles tend to do that.
Wasn't Jim Jordan involved in some high school boys wrestling pedophile ring?
Not saying this like a MAGA liar would - real news sources reported it.
Maybe he just watched?
No idea, but you got your ass banned here once for posting hardcore child porn. Managed to nuke the entire thread too.
"some high school boys"
stop salivating, pedo
turd, the TDS-addled asshole, lies when he knows he’s lying. turd lies when we know he’s lying. turd lies when he knows that we know he’s lying.
turd lies. turd is a lying pile of lefty shit and a pederast besides.
Ten years too old for Pluggo.
If you throw your ethos and/or morals out the window, perhaps they were always just window dressing after all.
Sometimes even the moral busybody reaps what they sow.
C.S. Lewis was correct: "The moral busy body will torture you without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience."
perhaps they were always just window dressing after all.
For most people, yes, they were. Unfortunately.
Letting people live with the consequences of their own choice is actually a libertarian perspective. It sucks it harms others as well. But no shame on pointing out those consequences.
Keep dedicating yourself to slave morality and whining about the results
There's a difference between letting people live with the consequences of their own actions and throwing your own ethical framework in the garbage.
My ethical framework doesn’t revolve around niceties and making people feel better. It revolves around truth and logic.
The framework you are asking for is often utilized to ignore problems or hide issues. Hoppe had a book regarding ethical argumentation about niceties being used to debase an argument.
I have no interest in this individual as a person before nor after the story. But will use it to point out the problems of policies the left promotes. That's the ethics I care about.
I don't think it is in most people's moral repertoire to be, as you say, a 'cold hearted monster' nor would I apply that label to someone defending themselves in most cases.
Now, if you're saying you need to preemptively kill people to prevent their ethos from spreading I would indeed label you a cold hearted monster.
Not that 'shooting wars against ideas' have any kind of a positive track record in world history anyway from a strictly utilitarian perspective.
I'm also forced to note that you're assuming that words do indeed equal violence, and I'm fairly certain I've heard that mantra somewhere else before fairly recently.
If someone is attacking me or my family I'm not going to stop myself and consider the conditions the attacker lived under that led to that point.
