Judge Blocks Biden Administration's Strict Asylum Restrictions

Judge blocks President Joe Biden's "Trump-lite" asylum policy. A federal court has blocked the Biden administration's latest attempt to limit migrants from seeking asylum in the U.S. "The Rule—which has been in effect for two months—cannot remain in place," wrote U.S. District Judge Jon Tigar in a ruling released Tuesday.
Tigar gave the administration two weeks to appeal before his order takes effect.
"The Justice Department immediately appealed [Tigar's] order and asked for it to be put on hold while the case is heard. The agency said it's confident the rule is lawful," reports the Associated Press.
The rule in question—which took effect upon the expiring of Title 42 migrant expulsions in May—requires the U.S. to immediately expel many asylum-seeking migrants. George Mason University law professor Ilya Somin called it a "Trump-lite asylum policy."
Here's how Tigar explained it:
Under the Rule, noncitizens other than Mexican nationals who cross the southern border are presumed ineligible for asylum unless they (1) have received advance permission to travel to the U.S. to apply for parole; (2) present at a port of entry for a pre-scheduled appointment (or without an appointment, if they can demonstrate an "ongoing and serious obstacle" that precluded pre-scheduling); or (3) have already sought and been denied asylum or other protection in another country en route to the U.S.
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), the National Immigrant Justice Center, and other organizations challenged the rule, arguing that "it forces migrants to seek protection in countries that don't have the same robust asylum system and human rights protections as the United States," notes the A.P.:
They also argued that the CBP One app the government wants migrants to use doesn't have enough appointments and isn't available in enough languages.
The administration had argued that protection systems in other countries that migrants travel through have improved. But Tigar said it's not feasible for some migrants to seek protection in a transit country and noted the violence that many face in Mexico in particular.
"While they wait for an adjudication, applicants for asylum must remain in Mexico, where migrants are generally at heightened risk of violence by both state and non-state actors," the judge, an appointee of President Barack Obama, wrote.
He also wrote that the rule is illegal because it presumes that people are ineligible for asylum if they enter the country between legal border crossings. But, Tigar wrote, Congress expressly said that should not affect whether someone is eligible for asylum.
Under the Refugee Act of 1980, "any noncitizen who arrives in the United States, 'whether or not at a designated port of arrival' and 'irrespective of [their] status, may apply for asylum,'" noted Tigar.
"The court's ruling is welcome and expected, since the new policy simply rehashed prior rules that restricted access to asylum based on similar grounds, which courts already rejected," Keren Zwick, director of litigation at the National Immigrant Justice Center and co-counsel on the case, said in a statement. "U.S. laws protect the rights of people fleeing persecution to come to this country and pursue asylum, full stop."
The ACLU's Katrina Eiland, who argued the case, called the ruling "a victory," while noting that "each day the Biden administration prolongs the fight over its illegal ban, many people fleeing persecution and seeking safe harbor for their families are instead left in grave danger."

Digital rights groups tell Congress to say no to "bad internet bills."
"We've made it clear that these bills are terrible ideas, but Congress is now considering packaging them together—possibly into must-pass legislation," notes Jason Kelley of EFF.
Except KOSA will lead to MORE harm online, not less. This bill should be permanently shelved so that Congress can focus on actual solutions to Big Tech's harms, like passing data privacy and antitrust legislation, algorithmic transparency, studying the failure of SESTA/FOSTA, etc https://t.co/vq0MwiA2iU

Bills like the EARN IT Act and the STOP CSAM Act "may sound well-intentioned, as they claim to protect children from sexual exploitation, but their impact on free expression and online privacy would be devastating," says the ACLU. "These bills would create a clear avenue to remove important, protected speech from the internet, and our ability to communicate without the government seeing."
Some lawmakers are angling to attach the STOP CSAM Act—which Riana Pfefferkorn of the Stanford Internet Observatory has called "an anti-encryption stalking horse"—into the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). EFF has more on that here.

FTC readying another lawsuit against Amazon? The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is reportedly readying another antitrust lawsuit against Amazon, just months after accusing the company of duping people into signing up for Amazon Prime. "The FTC has been investigating the company on a number of fronts, and the coming case would be one of the most aggressive and high-profile moves in the Biden administration's rocky effort to tame the power of tech giants," according to Politico:
The wide-ranging lawsuit is expected as soon as August, and will likely challenge a host of Amazon's business practices, said the people, who were granted anonymity to discuss a confidential matter. If successful, it could lead to a court-ordered restructuring of the $1.3 trillion empire and define the legacy of FTC Chair Lina Khan. …
The exact details of the final lawsuit are not known, and changes to the final complaint are expected until the eleventh hour. But personnel throughout the agency, including Khan herself, have homed in on several of Amazon's business practices, said some of the people.

"Liberalism's core principle of individual autonomy is not a recipe for social decay,"
Conservatives say "Hold my Beer".
If you're angry and desperate to troll, you're going to have to try a bit harder.
No fifty-cents for you.
But you support that very concept - that individualism leads to social decay.
The core of conservative belief is that morality and duty rely on traditional values.
As a classic liberal secularist I say "Fuck your traditional values" and it drives you wingnuts crazy.
As a classic liberal secularist I say “Fuck your traditional values” and it drives you wingnuts crazy.
Thet works until you violate someone else's rights. Like chopping off body parts of those too young to consent.
You have no issue violating the NAP.
I try to stay out of the Trannie Dancing wars but....
If a society will allow a religious whackjob to withhold a blood transfusion to his 13-year old child because "the Bible" then that same society should allow consensual sex reassignment.
Now if you want to ban both - go for it. I won't fight you. But just be consistent.
Yawn, Pluggo. You're just phoning it in this morning. No fifty cents for you.
turd lies. turd lies when he knows he’s lying. turd lies when we know he’s lying. turd lies when he knows that we know he’s lying.
turd lies. turd is a lying pile of lefty shit and a pederast besides.
“Like chopping off body parts of those too young to consent.”
Well, conservatives like yourself should then be celebrating that no surgeon in the US will remove a minor’s penis or do a hysterectomy on a minor for “gender-affirming” reasons. And part of the reason clinics clearly publish their policies about minors nowadays is that conservatives shone a spotlight on clinics that didn’t state clear policies. So, good job!
Now, a minor (girl) can still get breast removal surgery for “gender-affirming” reasons, so maybe there should be a law about that, but if you do pass a law make sure to be consistent and cover all the breast surgeries being done on minors for other reasons — otherwise, you are demonstrating that you don’t actually care about the mutilation and are just culture warring.
This still remains false no matter how many times you repeat the lie. You've been given all the links. Youre just proving you are here to push a liberal friendly narrative. From jazz Jennings, to white houses own admission, to doctors, to insurance billing.... it all proves you're lying. And you persist.
Oh, but Laursen, they have, and they do. We've provided many references and links, including one Jazz Jennings ("I am Jazz") documenting that it indeed is happening. You continue to lie, obfuscate, and gaslight about it.
Imagine thinking that the people that don’t want children to be irreparably hurt through unnecessary surgery and a life-time of prescription drugs are just doing so to own the libs. You have a serious problem, Mike.
He has a lot of serious problems.
If conservatives care so much about mutilation of minors, why have they never, in the decades it has been going on, made passing a law against cosmetic breast surgeries for minors an issue?
If conservative care so much about the health of minors, why do red states (Idaho, for example) allow parents to refuse life-saving medical treatments for their children for religious reasons?
Mike. Do you even understand what a mastectomy is? And who is supporting cosmetic surgery? The examples you provide are medical issues such as breast reduction due to back problems. That is not cosmetic.
You also compare intentional harm of a child to not providing care. They are two separate issues. Following your logic not providing a blood transfusion is the same as euthanizing your kid.
You continue to lie and obfuscate.
If conservative care so much about the health of minors, why do red states (Idaho, for example) allow parents to refuse life-saving medical treatments for their children for religious reasons?
Define "lifesaving medical treatments".
A couple years ago you declared covid vaccines should be forced on everyone because the left said the vax was lifesaving.
“A couple years ago you declared covid vaccines should be forced on everyone because the left said the vax was lifesaving”
I did? I’d like to see a link to that, because I never said any such thing.
Define “lifesaving medical treatments”.
Why do you demand your past citations and then complain it is creepy we keep your past statements?
You were pro vaccination. You were okay with businesses having it as a requirement. Ecinomic terrorism is a demand function. Do this or go homeless isnt a libertarian ideal.
In the quote I gave below it talks about a 2-year-old dying from pneumonia. So, an example of a life-saving treatment there, depending on what was causing the pneumonia, might be an anti-biotic or anti-viral.
https://www.idahostatesman.com/news/politics-government/state-politics/article270467052.html
This is just one quote. You should read the entire article:
“Martin, who now lives in Oregon, was raised in Boise as a member of the Followers of Christ Church, a small religious group with congregations in parts of rural Idaho. For years, the church has been in the public spotlight over its controversial faith healing beliefs of using prayer or spiritual healing in place of medical care.
“Martin said the practice was at the root of deaths she witnessed as a child: cousins who died days after being born, a nephew who ‘drowned in his own fluids’ with pneumonia at 2 years old. Though she left the church when she was 16, at 68 years old she still tracks each child death connected to the church.”
1. Because minors aren’t getting their breasts augmented?
2. I reserve the right to call them assholes too.
Who dont you you have muted? At least 10 of us have proved this is a stupid lie with different cites. Including a recent Reason article
It is amazing that you conflate an elective surgey on healthy tissues to dubiously treat a mental health issue with surgeries to deal with physiological issues from unhealthy organs.
Make a false or fallacious claim. Claim that is not what he said. Prop up a strawman, provide a non sequitur, or move goalposts as needed.
Dissemble. Deflect. Distract.
It is all they do all day long.
Can you be specific about what I supposedly conflated with what?
How are you going to see it with everyone muted you jackwang.
As a classic liberal secularist I say “Fuck
your traditional valueslittle kids” and it drives you wingnuts crazy.I work an online job from home and earn 185 dollars per hour. I never imagined I could do it, but my best friend, who makes $15,000 a month at the job, encouraged me to find out more about it. This has limitless possibilities.

The fact that US politicians are chomping at the bit to go to war against another nuclear power that outpaces them in shipbuilding capacity by more than 200 to 1 while the US president is suffering from obvious dementia and constantly talks nonsense, is considered normal in 2023.

200 to 1? Who, China?
We can buy ships from South Korea. I am sure our leaders believe this.
Who needs ships when you have nukes?

Ignore the manufactured outrage coming from Team Desantis
Garland’s persecution of Donald Trump was absolutely a motivating factor for Ron Desantis to launch his Presidential bid
In fact, the shadow campaign was launched immediately after the FBI’s raid of Mar-a-Lago
In April 2022, Ron’s top advisor @christinapushaw squashed speculation of a Presidential run, claiming Ron frequently shut down the idea himself, was only focused on Florida

June 2022:
As the Biden DOJ ramps up it’s investigations into Trump, reports surface that Desantis doesn’t want his endorsement for his upcoming re-election
The distancing becomes real

August 8, 2022:
The FBI raids Mar-a-Lago
Despite being the first to know about the raid, Desantis trials behind others by hours, putting out a statement late in the evening—void of the name “Trump”

That same afternoon, hours into the raid, Desantis agrees to a multi state campaign tour
This will allow him to show his face in swing states such as AZ, PA, WI and boost his name recognition across the country
[Pic]
In the following days after the hottest story in modern political history unfolded in his jurisdiction, Desantis holds no press conferences or live events
He instead releases a series of pre recorded videos, likely filmed at the same time
This is the planning phase

August 12, 2022 (4 days after raid):
Christina Pushaw resigns from the governor’s office and joins his “re-election campaign,” which turned out to be his shadow presidential campaign

Desantis releases his high production “Top Gov” ad with the intention of building a national brand
August 24, 2022 (16 days after raid):
‘Desantis War Room’ is launched by Christina Pushaw
This account was never deleted after Ron’s re-election last Nov; it’s now the official rapid response account for his Presidential campaign
Or maybe that was it’s purpose all along
September 18, 2022
Desantis attends a Packers game in Green Bay, WI with the states Republican Gubernatorial nominee, further exposing himself to a national audience
October 24, 2022
Desantis refuses to commit to serving a full 4 year term as governor in his debate with Charlie Crist

That’s the X fringe vote!
Absolutely!
And with no more twitter, there cannot be any more mean tweets, so Trump is OK again.
“there cannot be any more mean tweets”
True. There have just been tons of mean “truths” for a couple of years now.
But it’s not the meanness that is the worst part of Trump’s communications: it’s the falsehood, pandering, stupidity, incoherence, and fucking ALL CAPS ranting.
Similar to your input here.
I have never seen Mike complain about shrike or sqrsly. Weird.
He supports anyone that annoys those critical of his determined support of the left and Democrats. This is the way.
You are a lying dog faced pony solider.
Let me guess, that’s supposed to be a “gotcha” because you quoted some stupid thing Biden said and I am supposedly a Biden supporter.
Doesn’t work: I’m not a Biden supporter.
You just defend and deflect any criticism of him constantly.
Yet you, sarc, jeff, and shrike all can claim others cultists and conservatives without question.
Mike, proponents of gender reassignment should just make it a "religious freedom" issue.
Wingnuts get all weepy when religious freedom is claimed. It justifies anything to them.
So you think kiddie didding is a "religious issue" now?
It is what he constantly preys for.
turd, the ass-clown of the commentariat, lies; it’s all he ever does. turd is a kiddie diddler, and a pathological liar, entirely too stupid to remember which lies he posted even minutes ago, and also too stupid to understand we all know he’s a liar.
If anything he posts isn’t a lie, it’s totally accidental.
turd lies; it’s what he does. turd is a lying pile of lefty shit.
So you support gender reassignment.
We also know you posted dark web links to underage porn!
proponents of gender reassignment should just make it a “religious freedom” issue.
I wish they would. It would be far more honest and they would immediately lose the fallacious "follow the science" argument. I am pretty sure the religious clitorectomy issue has already been settled on the side of outlawing the genital mutilation of children.
Actually that is a fantastic idea. Thank you!
It has to be the right religion, though.
Die in a fire pedo
Well, that didn't go how he was hoping...
“And with no more twitter,”
Long live Mastodon! …err, I mean, long live Threads! This time for sure!
Is there something wrong with having more competition in social media?
You defended the attacks against Parlor. Odd.
He is mocking Mastodon. Not demanding bsckbone infrastructure boot them off platforms. Unlike your take on parlor.
It's a joke, oh obtuse one.
Did they ever let you on Truth Social yet?
Did I say there was? Nope.
But let me know when there is actual competition and not a poor attempt to have the media and their worshipers move to a platform not owned by BadRocketMan.

I just want to remind you all that "exposing" the left does nothing. The left doesn't care what you expose about whatever politician or public figure they love. You could show a video of Bill Gates, Joe Biden, and Hillary Clinton drinking a milkshake made out of babies and the left wouldn't care, at all.
You could have all the evidence in the world and the DOJ wouldn't prosecute because it would be like prosecuting themselves. You could present evidence to our representatives of actual treason and maybe two congressmen would care and MTG would make a rap video about it while Jack Poso plugged pillow codes.
No one is seeing the inside of a jail cell besides a few grannies if they ever find em for J6. Every gotcha post, it's just click bait for ad revenue. It's all fake and gay. Go make a ton of babies and keep them away from public schools and the internet. Best thing you can do.
Tomorrow, you'll wake up, and Nina Turner will be demanding free cookies and ice cream for everyone. Tomorrow you'll wake up and the Krassentwins will be posting stuff like "if you disagree with Biden making baby milk shakes, then you also better denounce Trump not tipping a black bellhop 12 years ago" or whatever garbage they always post.
It's all just so very fake and so very gay. Politics, the internet, all of it. This isn't a blackpill, I have full faith we win in the end. I'm just saying, all this crap we're seeing? You guessed it... Fake And Gay.
Democrats celebrate their lies. Because it is them admitting they retain power over the populace from lies. How many times will KJP repeat Biden's economic lies? How many times will shrike push trump russia still or deny hunters legal problems.
All authoritarians celebrate the lie. It is proof of control. And the media and Mike above will gladly support the lie.
"A lie told often enough becomes the truth."
They are old school Leninists dreaming of the day they get to become Stalinists.
You could show a video of Bill Gates, Joe Biden, and Hillary Clinton drinking a milkshake made out of babies and the left wouldn’t care, at all.
Is that a sly reference to Sam Harris performing a late-stage abortion of his credibility?
Conservative commentators may be reading way too much into Barbie.
What are they supposed to commentate on? Oppie?
Seems more of the usual "How DARE people notice the messages we imbed in our 'entertainment'!"
Pretty sure they're supposed to just myopically commentate on Sound of Freedom so the media can accuse them of being Q-Anon or some such nonsense.
I found the Lotus Eaters review to be thoughtful. Basically, don't take impressionable kids because it's an anti-male feminist screed at surface level but if you look at the story arc and various outcomes in it the movie becomes very anti-feminist. Also, don't spend money to watch it but maybe catch it once it's streaming.
There was a Psychology Today article that noted that Ken's behavior is typical middle-to-low IQ beta-male. When Barbie doesn't look at him he become dejected and whines. When she pays attention to something else, he lashes out. If it encourages young girls to avoid the soyboy culture warriors that behave that way, that is not a negative.
From the popularity, my guess is that it isn't that bad. Just like a lot of the Disney stuff isn't bad. Responsibility for what kids see is on the parents, not the studios. If you have kids, show them the classics.
So... defend barbie. Attack the child trafficking movie. Reason shows their priorities.
Basically.
Prepare for a "cite" demand from our resident hack.
No kidding. He did below and ignored the article just 2 days ago showing the inference. A thread he avoided.
Or not, the description of the plot I have seen may be that the writer's of the movie may be too logically incoherent to understand the bizarrely contradictory messages they put into the story. For instance, apparently Ryan Gosling's Ken character implements a "patriachy" in Barbie World which the Barbies somehow go along with and everyone is seemingly happier under this arrangement, yet it must be destroyed and the Ken's put back in their place as second class citizens.
Or maybe that was the point and they are trying to have fun and be funny and slightly absurd. I have no idea, but it seems like most people commenting on it have little more idea about it than I do. It's really funny when everyone seems to feel a great need to have a strong yet uninformed opinion on some silly bit of culture that doesn't matter like a fucking Barbie movie.
Feminists being funny?
Except the people making these entertainments think they are chnaging the world with these cultural messages they embed in them. Pointing out these messages seem hateful and contradictory is part of the culture.
Right. You can say it’s a shitty message and that the film has subversive marketing to get people in the theater for the shitty message.
You can say a film is a very shitty film with shitty messaging and it doesn’t mean you’re “getting up in arms” about it. What can happen is that someone pushes back, and because they want to create an argument about it, it prolongs the conversation. Just because someone disagrees with you and makes the argument last longer doesn’t mean you’re any more passionate about how bad the movie is compared to any other shitty movie.
EDIT: This actually happens with a lot of discussions about shitty movies. Someone points out that it's got a lot of problems, but someone else is convinced it's brilliant because it has something Important To Say, and it ends up being a wedge issue. People can just think it does a shitty job telling a shitty story, and the fact that they feel inclined to push back against people who think it's brilliant doesn't mean they're any more invested in that than they are when it comes to movies like Birdemic (which everyone agrees is bad and stupid).
Meanwhile in the real world Banker Barbie is closing the accounts of the patriarchy.
Ahh! Revenge served hot.

Lab-grown meat is hitting high-end restaurants.
In the middle of a covid epidemic?
Not surprised by this one. Lab grown meat has all the calling cards to make a rich person fad.
This is the worst "fad" I can imagine. The artificially processed shit Americans eat isn't bad enough, we have to go and eat reactor meat?
These people will be in the same health category as the vaxxed victims.
It’s just meat like any other meat.
You just made the same argument that liberals have long used about GMOs.
Cite?
ZING!
It’s just meat like any other meat.
Really? Where is the face? I want to shoot it in the face!
You just made the same argument that liberals have long used about GMOs.
No, not really. GMO is a fancy term for accelerated selective breeding using science. Meat without an animal is not the same thing at all.
Valid point.
I do predict, though, that we’re not just going to see lab-grown meat. We are going to see lab-grown meat that eventually diverges from trying to taste like it’s animal-grown equivalent, using genetic engineering to improve taste and texture, yields, and nutrient content.
There are precedents for all that from golden rice to turducken.
There are precedents for all that from golden rice to turducken.
Neither of those things are grown in a lab. I think lab-grown meat and GMOs are a really bad comparison.
Neither of those things are grown in a lab. I think lab-grown meat and GMOs are a really bad comparison.
As always, Mike is way out of his intellectual league. He's flinging shit hoping something sticks.
Let's see if he has the humility to admit to making a poor comparison, or if he sticks to his guns like someone who can't admit to being wrong.
Except I don’t agree it’s a poor comparison. Both liberals and Bob are engaging in knee-jerk rejection of new technologies.
But, yes, I would have the humility — if I agreed with you. I have apologized for being wrong here in the commentariat on several occasions.
Uh oh. The lovers are quarreling.
Cite, Mike? Please cite where you admit being wrong.
Both liberals and Bob are engaging in knee-jerk rejection of new technologies.
I can agree that the reactions are comparable, but not the technology itself.
Cite, Mike? Please cite where you admit being wrong.
You and your girlfriends are the ones with hundreds and hundreds of bookmarked comments from Reason (which is pathetic all by itself), so shouldn't y'all be the ones with all the cites?

"Cite, Mike? Please cite where you admit being wrong."
You and your girlfriends are the ones with hundreds and hundreds of bookmarked comments from Reason (which is pathetic all by itself), so shouldn’t y’all be the ones with all the cites?
I merely run searches off memory and bookmark nothing. Knock it off with the "Mean Girls" shtick. It was stale the minute you opened that bag.
Sarc, mike is literally demanding citations for his past views.
You retards can’t both demand citations and then attack when citations are provided.
The entire reason I started bookmarking was because you and Mike and Jeff constantly lie about your past statements.
Haha!
Knock it off with the “Mean Girls” shtick. It was stale the minute you opened that bag.
Oh boo fucking hoo. Your accusations of white-knighting whenever someone agrees with someone you don't like are staler than last week's donuts.
Here's an example of my apologizing to someone:

His league is at ‘Highlights’
Leave my kids' dentist out of it. At least until I finish the picture hunt.
Picture hunts are actually difficult for sarc due to the vision impairment from being a drunk.
There are precedents for all that from golden rice to turducken.
You do realize turducken isn't an organism?
Fucking retard.
Not something I claimed. I was giving turducken as an example of someone trying to create a ”new” meat.
But, Mike, it isn't. It's merely the age-old concept of stuffing one thing inside another for culinary reasons. Kind of like stuffing a bear inside a trunk. Oh, wait.
The bear in my trunk is strictly a weapon of war and not for culinary purposes.
We all use our trunk bears differently, each to his own.
I use my Trunk Bear to expand my territory for my drug slinging business.
It’s merely the age-old concept of stuffing one thing inside another for culinary reasons. Kind of like stuffing a bear inside a trunk. Oh, wait.
I nearly peed myself.
I don't know if anyone has brought this up, but the bear in the trunk is our little variation on The Trunk Monkey! 🙂
Trunk Monkey Complete Compilation(2021)

Nope. Bears in trunks is its own special thing. It’ll be on Lying Jeffy’s tombstone.
No new meat is being created retard. One meat is being stuffed up another.
Ha Ha Ha. Like a mixed grill platter?
What a dope.
Dude, it's a shitty comparison. One guy is growing shit in a lab while the other is a guy stuffing birds with birds in a kitchen.
This is great.
Admittedly, I could have come up with a better example.
Turducken is not lab-grown (nor does it even need genetic engineering). It's literally a chicken stuffed inside a duck which then is stuffed inside a turkey.
Here's a cite with photos for White Mike: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turducken
Don’t forget lab grown HO2
I just wish they would Genetically Engineer a better name than turducken. No "turd" in turducken! 😉
Variations based on other bird species.
Turphecken - Pheasent instead of duck (Turphucken was funnier)
Gooducken - Goose instead of turkey
Other variations:
pheasant, grouse, quail
Turkey, grouse, dove
Goose, duck, teal,
I've tried more but none had clever names.
One year, my uncle stuffed a small turkey into a larger turkey and called it a "Twokey." Not sure if it counts, but still.
That might be interesting if one was roasted and one was fried.
All of it could fall under the label of Fowl and Fowler. 🙂
You're joking about shooting it in the face; however, there are people who will only eat meat from a properly slaughtered animal. If there was no slaughter then there could not have been a proper slaughter.
Seen several rulings from authorities on kosher and halal food that it boils down to the source of the starter cells. If they came from a properly slaughtered animal, OK, if not, it's a violation. It's especially bad if the cells came from a live animal.
Seen several rulings from authorities on kosher and halal food that it boils down to the source of the starter cells.
Sounds like the rabbis and mullahs and such have already figured out how the rules cover these new vat-grown meats.
Maybe when lab-grown meat becomes more ubiquitous, they'll learn that good food doesn't need religious words mumbled over it or barbaric rituals done to it.
Is it though? All GMOs are is taking breeding to the next level. This is a bit different. It's an attempt to grow "meat" from its basic building blocks. Does that make it meat?
Mike is too dumb to understand the same type of procedures used in GMO have been done with plants animals for millenia. Prize bulls are a think for a reason. Half of the dog breeds are groomed to produce and outcome. Very much the same as germinating certain plants to produce food.
Agriculture has always used selectivity curating of later generations.
This could shape up to be White Mike's "bears in trunks" moment.
HO2 part deux
You know that infamous comment was faked by Tulpa, don’t you?
Cite?
LOL! But you've already called turducken a product of genetic engineering. Was that Tulpa too?
Nobody gives a shit about stupid shit like the truth. What matters is what they feel. Take ML for example. When he accidentally found proof that I was being impersonated while trying to prove I was the impersonator, did he pretend to be a man about it? Of course not. When given a choice between pretending to act like a man or behaving like the teenage girl that he is, he chose to lash out emotionally. Same deal here. They know what they feel. Proving the truth will only cause them to get angrier.
ML actually refuted your denials multiple times leading you to mute him.
You also deny your past statements even when given citations and quotes word for word. So you have no standing to talk about lying and the truth.
Mike Liarson: I would totally admit if I was wrong. But I’ve never been wrong.
Pour, pour, sarcasmic.
GM bears in trunks no less! Maybe GM bears in the trunks of GM vehicles!
🙂
Indeed. Everything humans have ever domesticated has been Genetically Modified. The difference between then and now is just selective breeding then and Petri Dishes now.
It’s just meat like any other meat.
Do you really believe this statement?
If there's no animal, there's no meat.
Think soy milk: no mammary, no milk.
Genetically modified plants are still plants. Need sunlight, water, CO2, etc.
Fucking hack.
Exactly. Where's the face? If I can't shoot it in the face then there's no meat.
Wasn't funny the first time.
Also doesn't know hunters don't shoot animals in the face.
I would bet that sarcasmic does know that but was going for a joke based on hyperbole.
Cite?
I would bet that they know this but are being mendacious and obtuse.
Imagine discussing others being mendacious and obtuse with Dee.
Also doesn’t know hunters don’t shoot animals in the face.
Let's just say situational, and leave it at that.
I shot sarc’s ex-wife in the face. Not with a gun though.
I dunno. I think it's ridiculous, but if it's still the same chains of proteins forming muscle fibers in bundles, that seems like it would still be meat, even if it grew in a vat. Unless there's a particular linguistic "meat" definition you're referring to. Although the edible portion of nuts are also referred to as the "meat".
*shrug*
I don't think it's going to be more environmentally friendly than just raising cows, but I guess if we were trying to do it in the asteroid belt, this might still be a reasonable meat source.
but I guess if we were trying to do it in the asteroid belt, this might still be a reasonable meat source.
Fair enough.
– In their latest experiment, Romesberg’s team used that expanded genetic alphabet to instruct the cells to synthesize proteins from “noncanonical” amino acids — hundreds of molecules that can be found in nature or the lab but are not naturally used by organisms.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/speaking-of-science/wp/2017/11/29/cells-with-lab-made-dna-produce-a-new-kind-of-protein-a-holy-grail-for-synthetic-biology/
Is Splenda actually sugar?
Is that in any way related to the lab grown "meat"? Feeding people synthetic proteins that don't exist in nature seems like a bad idea. Growing regular animal cells in a vat seems silly and pointless and kind of gross, but not particularly troubling.
So development of muscle is a natural development from natural processes. To me developing a similar chemical from unnatural processes is not the same and is not meat. Similar to creating chemical sweeteners not being sugar.
I'm still waiting on more in depth studies to show the synthetic meat is the same aside from both utilizing protein chains. We know that the combination and arrangement of these chains have an effect on the human body when you compare proteins of different sources depending on how the chains express themselves. IE protein from beans does not absorb the same as protein from an animal product. This is why vegans do have to over sample protein intake to get more of the effect of consuming meat despite both containing chemically the same proteins but differing protein chains.
I'm not convinced synthetic meat is the same from what I've read. Willing to read a source if you have it.
I probably don't know anything you don't. Those could be legitimate concerns I suppose. I'd mostly assumed that if it is culturing animal cells, it will have the same proteins that animal muscle cells usually have.
Sure, I definitely wouldn't consider that to be meat, but that's not what I'm talking about. I will admit that I'm not following the lab grown meat science that carefully, because I have no problem eating actual animals.
Same. Lab grown meat is 2-3x the price despite selling undercost and being subsidized. But my initial reading on it is that it is not the same. Willing to be shown more analytical data on it though. Still won't buy it.
Sure I mean it.
Let’s say we conducted the equivalent of a Turing test for intelligence, but testing for is it meat or not: someone presents you with a piece of chicken and asks you to determine by looking at it, smelling it, tasting it, analyzing samples of it, running it through a mass spectrometer whether it is from a slaughtered chicken or it is “cultured”. If you can’t tell the difference, it’s meat.
It takes 20x the carbon footprint to make, all that wasted energy in the lab
This is the worst “fad” I can imagine.
Then you really lack imagination.
Lab grown meat has all the calling cards to make a rich person fad.
The rich will get lab grown meat while the rest of "eat ze bugs" and own nothing.
How about lab grown bugs? Worst of both worlds!
Not so sure of that. I’ve eaten chapulines a couple of times at a Mexican restaurant. They were pretty tasty, but the gross part was the cricket’s little legs getting stuck in your teeth. Lab-grown cricket meat would leave the leg part out.
Was it engineered for gain of function?
Lab-grown meat meet lab grown covid epidemic.
"Under the Rule, noncitizens other than Mexican nationals who cross the southern border are presumed ineligible for asylum unless they (1) have received advance permission to travel to the U.S. to apply for parole; (2) present at a port of entry for a pre-scheduled appointment (or without an appointment, if they can demonstrate an "ongoing and serious obstacle" that precluded pre-scheduling); or (3) have already sought and been denied asylum or other protection in another country en route to the U.S."
How is this not already the law? Asylum is not designed to be an end run around the immigration system. It's purpose is to get people to a safe location. If you bypass multiple safe locations on your way to America you should not gain entry under the asylum system.
You are evil for not giving these refugees from??? their best opportunity in this country.
That's what y am reading into this stupid decision.
What if the intermediate locations are not safe? (As is the case, according to the ACLU and others who brought the lawsuit.)
Sue the unsafe location in international court for the cost of providing asylum?
HAHAHAHAHAHA! heh! heh...
See, sometimes I write stupid things on purpose just like White Mike.
Lol.
So you are saying Mexico, for instance, is a shithole country?
Man, Trump got all kinds of heat for using a prog talking point of today.
Being capable of speaking diplomatically is a skill a President should have in his rhetorical tool box. Trump does not have that skill.
Trump managed to get peace between Israel and the Arab countries in the Middle East, from 2020:
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/israel-arab-states-set-sign-trump-brokered-deals-white-house-n1240105
Israel signed deals to normalize ties with the Gulf states of the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain on Tuesday that were brokered by President Donald Trump in what is described as a diplomatic breakthrough.
That actually took real diplomatic skill.
Isn't Biden basically being made a total bitch by the rest of the world?
Um, yes.
https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2023/07/more-biden-humiliation-world-leaders-reach-joe-bidens/
With short video.
Stop using citations. It is ruling Mikes other morning narratives about nobody ever giving citations.
He was also the first president to sit down with Best Korea's leadership and talk things out, at least a little.
So it is OK if say a country is a "shithole" in a nice way?
Look, if you, like Donald Trump, have gotten all the way to adulthood yet don’t understand the role of tact, I cannot explain it to you.
Tact is a dumb person’s way of ignoring an argument. Nothing more than an attempted rhetorical fallacy.
Truths don't change based on saying something in a nice or mean way.
When Trump said that the critcicism against hime was not merely that it was tactless, it was that the suggestion that was something lesser about Mexico was racist.
It would have been harder for them to pin racism on him if he said it in a more tactful way.
Lol. They constantly quoted him out of context and twisted his words white cite.
See the fine good people hoax assholes like you continue to cite or the Ga call about "finding votes."
Well, the ACLU and friends did, although I’m sure they were more diplomatic in their wording.
What persecution would they asylum seekers have faced in Mexico?
Pretty racist of you thinking non white countries aren’t safe. The ACLU also claims the US isn't safe with guns, drug war, and anti trans bigots. Ironic no?
Yeah.
Politicians have claimed that America is the only country where mass shootings happen.
If they are right, why would people seek asylum in the U.S.?
Does that make sense?
No place is safe.
Just promise we'll ship all of them to Chicago and Baltimore and let's look at how safe it is.
That might be considered a war crime.
"It is an essential ingredient in what makes liberal societies humane sites of meaning-rich social connection in which capable but fallible human beings cooperate, adapt, and learn."
Nothing wrong with a little enforced help from a nanny government.
Rep. Bobby Scott (D–Va.) and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I–Vt.) are introducing legislation to raise the national minimum wage to $17 per hour by 2028.
WHY NOT $170 AN HOUR, FUCKIN CHEAPSKATES.
At some point they are just going to tie the minimum wage to inflation, and then we are all fucked.
A virtuous circle.
Yep, then much like saving for your kids college education. There will be no point in saving for your retirement. Even the upper middle class, can't put away enough to compensate for changing prices. Unless you have passive income you'll be fucked.
It occurred to me the other day that intentional massive inflation could be a stalking horse to force people into CBDCs. I mean, if your choice is the CBDC or coming up with a billion dollars in paper cash with no larger denominations available to buy a cup of coffee...
Don’t worry about it. Progressives say the government will pay for college for everyone by increasing taxes on rich people.
Sure, we don't pay our interns anyway.
-Bernie and Bobby
$17 will be great. Then we can all bitch about the lazy kids not getting after-school jobs.
"Conservative commentators may be reading way too much into Barbie."
Or maybe not. From what I've heard from people I know who've seen it, it's your typical extremist prog "Males are evil" message.
And what mainstream movie these days isn't a DEI religious parable these days?
John Wick.
Animal Rights Activism.
Secretly sponsored by PETA.
I haven't seen it, but from what I understand, it's pretty insane considering the marketing of the film. It looks like a fun (if extremely silly) adventure where Barbie ends up in the real world and her perky life outlook butts up against reality. It came off as a lower-brow Enchanted or maybe even Legally Blonde.
Instead, the plot seemingly is about how Barbie learns that there actually IS a Patriarchy ruling the real world, and the big threat is that a man exports this Patriarchy into Barbie world. So it portrays the Patriarchy as a real thing and it's subversively converting men to its cause so they all are being convinced to oppress women.
Conservative commentators may be reading way too much into Barbie.
Conservatives know that the USA went to shit when women got the ability to vote. "Individual Autonomy" does not apply to women according to the Federalist Society.

If you're the sort of person who likes to leave the house and get out and about from time to time, and you probably are, then you've probably noticed that gas prices have slowly but steadily been creeping back up again this year. You've also probably noticed that this upward price creep has rapidly accelerated in the last few days!
What you may not know however is that after a brief pause earlier this year, this corrupt rotten "president" and his administration have once again resumed draining America's Strategic Petroleum Reserve. It's now at its lowest level in almost exactly 40 years, and falling. And still, retail gas prices continue to rise now!
It makes you wonder what the heck this pathetic miserable demented old cretin is going to do once the last drop has been drained from the reserve, now that this lousy strategy that worked so well for him late last year appears to no longer be working.
Easy. Mandate electric cars.
That's a bingo.
Look, gas prices are old news now. He stopped them from rising while it was in the news, and now didn't need to worry about it every showing up as an issue again.
Why yes, I've noticed crude is up about $10/bbl recently. Of course you morons attribute it to some presidential decree when it is simply supply and demand.
US oil companies have cut back over 100 rigs recently to lower supply and boost prices.
https://oilprice.com/Energy/Energy-General/US-Oil-Rig-Count-Continues-To-Drop.html
They are worried about producing TOO MUCH oil as domestic production sets records.
RIG COUNT IS DOWN!
Totally logical take there, pedo.
Totally logical.
Did you have a refutation of substance? You know, something besides lame insults.
Why refute what someone says when you can refute the person and thus invalidate everything they say?
Remember that ad hominems are not fallacies, they are persuasive and logical arguments.
Sarc never bases his response on who he’s responding to. Never.

A link to Sarcasmic proving he reads all the "Mean Girl" posts and betraying his libertarian bona fides while Mike white-knights for him without even reading the argument. Today they are both deflection attention from SPBs mental diarrhea.
I think of it as "3 Card Monte - All Knaves" edition. It doesn't fool anyone, but they keep on shufflin'.
What substance was there? His take was his usual idiotic blather.
What substance was there?
Buttplug quoted numbers, he provided a cite.
If it’s all bullshit, you should be able to come up with better numbers or a better cite.
I did. He's a fucking moron. My cite is his posting history.
That’s right. Attack the person. Then what they say doesn’t matter.
Ad hominem for the win!
The people here post citations all the time. Your implication here is shrike isnt a moron who repeats his refuted arguments over and over. Just like you do above with surgeries on minors. No wonder you defend him.
You're a liar and an idiot.
You dispute WALL STREET JOURNAL articles because they make Fatass Donnie look bad.
turd, the ass-clown of the commentariat, lies; it’s all he ever does. turd is a kiddie diddler, and a pathological liar, entirely too stupid to remember which lies he posted even minutes ago, and also too stupid to understand we all know he’s a liar.

I literally posted the first bullet point after the headline to show you were lying. Lol. You didn’t read the article.
There's a reason "always read shrikes links" is an often uttered statement here.
Well, turd does make a habit of lying. It's what turd does.

His points are refuted all the time with links. You and sarc mute everyone then complain nobody is providing evidence.
Let’s dissect the article a moment here, which was published 4 days ago.
Crude oil production levels in the United States stayed steady at 12.3 million bpd in the week ending July 14, according to the latest weekly EIA estimates—a gain of just 100,000 bpd from the beginning of the year. U.S. production levels are now up 400,000 bpd versus a year ago.
All on private land or leases already held on federal lands.
Now, for today:
https://oilprice.com/Energy/Crude-Oil/Demand-Surge-Set-To-Push-Oil-Prices-Higher-This-Year.html
As supply is tightening due to the OPEC+ cuts and a slowdown in U.S. shale production growth, demand is robust and likely to further strengthen during the third quarter with peak driving season and strong consumption in the two leading Asian crude importers, China and India, analysts say.
Goldman Sachs expects oil prices to rise to $86 per barrel at year-end, as record-high oil demand and lowered supply will lead to a large market deficit.
Always read a Buttplug link and dig deeper on it folks.
And why are producers lowering supply, you moron?
To increase prices.
1. OPEC is lowering its supply for money.
2. Since Biden is not doing leases on federal lands, that will lower current and future supply.
3. You really have no understanding of futures markets and how they function.
He’s completely economically illiterate.
Reminder: his response to “10% for the big guy” was that 10% of multimillion dollar, international business deals, is the “bar tab”. Repeatedly.
He is that stupid.
They should reduce the supply to zero to get infinite prices!
turd, the ass-clown of the commentariat, lies; it’s all he ever does. turd is a kiddie diddler, and a pathological liar, entirely too stupid to remember which lies he posted even minutes ago, and also too stupid to understand we all know he’s a liar.

Not all Joe's fault. In MD its also because gas tax increase just kicked in, from $0.427 per gallon to .47 per gallon.
Plenty of government interference to go around.
But a big chunk of it is. New Mexico didn't add a $0.30 gas tax last week.
Nor did SC and we're back to almost $4 a gallon.
BIDENOMICS~!
No doubt. My comment was to bash the Dems in my state as well. Probably, too local, though.
Fair, and a noble purpose.
Here in WA state governor Karen instituted a new cap and trade program. Gas is up fifty cents in a couple of months. Karen blames big oil. Stupid democrats lap it up.
Cuz it totally makes climate warming better if the bloated government takes more money from the people and wastes it.
It feels cooler already.
...the state could tax people that work for companies based in New Jersey if they work from home in another state because it's easier for them.
Taxing people to not be in New Jerksey? NOBODY WANTS TO BE IN NEW JERKSEY.

FTC readying another lawsuit against Amazon?
FTC wants to know where the khakis it ordered are.
They only need one victory, or hell they just need to track up lawyer costs and risks of a victory happening to get companies to comply. FTC will never go broke or suffer consequences that matter to them for running frivolous lawsuits.
But at this point they've pissed in so many different people's wheaties that it would be impossible to figure out who did it if someone capped Khan. Seems like a poor strategy on her part.
Is Amazon offering too many products at low prices and quick delivery again?
Those bastards.
Of course. Amazon is one of the few highly-functioning organizations in the country. That must be stopped!
Does Brandon know that he hired white supremacists? Khakis being a dead give away.

Dude, expecting people to back up assertions with evidence is mean. He feels that it's true so it is true. It's all about the feelz.
Damn, I forgot to put you back on the mute list.

Oh, look. I pointed out that Thomas Jefferson, our third President, lost money while in office, you challenged me for a cite -- and I provided one! Because I do that.
Thomas Jefferson!? Man you really showed him!

https://reason.com/2023/07/24/irs-whistleblowers-claim-political-interference-in-hunter-biden-investigation/?comments=true#comments
All of this is something of an embarrassment for an administration that entered office on promises to reverse course from the controversial Trump administration. Former President Donald Trump openly embraced sleaze—he once boasted he could buy a U.S. senator for $200,000. Joe Biden promised he would be different if only he could win the big political prize.
Control-F: "Laursen" - Phase not found.
Yeah. Was too lazy to link lol.
The very 1st sentence of this article:
Judge blocks President Joe Biden's "Trump-lite" asylum policy.
Good catch.
See, Trump’s still worse.
How does that cost $60k?
Ya, this.
A movie, based on real events, that details a simple child trafficking story is somehow Qanon conspiracy and its completely normal for the pedos of the left to have a problem with it....
But a movie marketed as "if you like Barbie or hate Barbie, this is a movie for everyone" and definitely one marketed for Moms to take their daughters to, turns out to be feminist tripe that was made by and for unhappy college educated progressives, ya we are all just over reacting. We should gladly swallow the propaganda and be happier for it.
If your criticism of a movie is because it portrays child-sex traffickers in a bad light, you aren't a movie critic, you're an disgusting, underhanded social engineer.
If your criticism of someone else's criticism of a movie is that they should shut up with their criticism and enjoy the specific political messaging they critically pointed out was unnecessary in a children's movie, you aren't a movie critic, you're an underhanded social engineer.
I sort of suspect both are true. But I'll probably never see either.
Zeb, there’s a bit of false equivalence/BOAF SIDEZ here and deliberate ignorance of initiating fire/flack over target and, TBH, fuck you for that.
First, you *could* say “if either movie is advancing a political narrative” but this assumes we’re comparing (e.g.) The LEGO Movie or Toy Story to The Barbie Movie but we’re not. We’re comparing a docu-drama against a child fanfic. The former, unless exceedingly microscosmic, is always going to have socio-political connotation even if only as fact or circumstance. The latter if fiction, any fact or circumstance was deliberately placed there by the writer.
Second, (explicitly abiding your false equivalence) if Sound of Freedom is making any political commentary, it’s against child-sex traffickers and on the inefficacy of international bureaucracy. Whereas, if Barbie is making a political commentary, it’s that men or patriarchies are bad while women or matriarchies are good. One is, or should be, relatively critically irrelevant. Movie critics shouldn’t be telling audiences not to demonize child-sex traffickers and the other is pretty solid criticism “this secondary plot was too tropy and preachy” material.
Further, were we talking about Barbie and Sound of Freedom coming out in 1990 or 2000 or even 2010, you’re “It’s a one off… meh.” argument might make sense. Which pretty much means your argument is anachronistic. And, along those lines, your opinion of “The Barbie movie isn’t for me.” while perfectly valid, is not the issue, it’s not a justification of the movie demonizing you or people like you unnecessarily, nor is it an explanation as to why people who were entirely content to say and accept “The Sound of Freedom isn’t a movie for everyone.” are being subjected to the slights they’ve been subjected to.
Wow, you are reading an awful lot into a comment that said nothing about the movies and made no arguments. So fuck you too for assuming that I'm making any commentary about the movies whatsoever. I just think it's silly that so many people apparently need to have strong opinions about movies they haven't seen.
You seem to attach a bizarre amount of importance to the contents of this comment section. "Oh, no, Zeb didn't sufficiently condemn a movie neither of us has seen, I'd better jump to some conclusions about what he really thinks".
I think the reason "Sound of Freedom" ended up being contentious is that it portrays actual sex trafficking, but we live in an environment where "sex trafficking" is a term being applied overly broad. So you have something like a ring of Asian spas where everyone is working there willingly, but officers make a bunch of arrests and claim they busted a huge human trafficking ring where nobody was being held against their will.
No, it's because leftists want to diddle little kids.
Wow, you are reading an awful lot into a comment that said nothing about the movies and made no arguments.
First, "both are true" specifically asserts (even if it only does so suspiciously) that "Conservative commentators may be reading way too much into Barbie". An assertion that by all accounts, including the Barbie movie's own makers, are false. Conservatives didn't just invent the idea that The Barbie movie is an allegorical polemic about the patriarchy, it actually is. Which makes your equivocation (and the subsequent, "I make no arguments." assertion) false.
Learn how specific ambiguity, celebratory parallax, and salutary contradiction work. It's not about the specific content of the movies any more than the Biden Laptop Story is about Hunter Biden's dick or the Bud Light controversy is about Dylan Mulvaney specifically (rather than Ru Paul or Jessica Yaniv) or COVID was about people choosing to wear masks and/or get vaccinated to avoid killing Grandma.

Woke capitalism fallout.
https://www.spiked-online.com/2023/07/26/nigel-farage-has-landed-a-blow-against-woke-capitalism/
Dame Alison Rose, the chief executive of NatWest bank, has resigned. Having confessed yesterday to divulging Nigel Farage’s private banking information to a BBC journalist, Rose initially appeared to have the backing of her board. But when government ministers expressed ‘significant concerns’ about her continuing in post, her departure became inevitable. NatWest owns Coutts, the exclusive bank where Farage held his accounts. And since a 2008 bailout, NatWest is 39 per cent owned by the British state, so the views of the Treasury matter.
Farage’s case seems to be the tip of the iceberg when it comes to political bank closures. Since he went public, others have come forward to report similar treatment. There’s the Reverend Richard Fothergill who responded to a request for customer feedback from the Yorkshire Building Society by saying he disagreed with its promotion of transgender ideology during Pride month. He was told his views were ‘not tolerable’ and that his account would be closed in 14 days. There were also the Halifax customers who were told last year that they could take their custom elsewhere if they don’t approve of staff wearing pronoun badges.
In today’s increasingly cashless society, losing your bank account is no minor inconvenience: it makes it almost impossible to live anything approaching a normal life. Being denied a bank account is a serious punishment and those running our banks know this. They clearly think that alongside looking after our money, their role is to act as moral arbiters policing the public’s views.
In truth, banks have long been a driving force of woke capitalism. This is not because they’ve been overtaken by pink-haired interns. The decision by Coutts to collect evidence of Farage’s political opinions is symptomatic of a far deeper shift.
The problem we face is far worse than just hypocrisy. It’s not that elite bankers don’t really believe in, say, trans ideology. The problem is they do – even if it comes at the expense of making money. Coutts was happy to lose Farage’s custom as doing so would allow it to maintain its aura of virtue.
Farage has dealt an important blow against woke capitalism. But it will take far reaching cultural and political change to fully turn the tide. One test will come next June. For Pride month 2024, will Coutts once again adorn its entire building in rainbow flags? I wouldn’t bet against it.
I'd argue any bank, anywhere, that takes any government funds ever lose their ability to refuse service to anybody.
The problem with that idea is that loans and credit lines can't exist unless you can tell someone no they can't have it, and any attempt to force them to use objective metrics will inevitably be gamed.
I am referring to basic banking services. The issue with the UK (and has happened here) is that their accounts PERIOD were shut down. Making living life markedly more difficult. If I have to pay to keep these useless institutions afloat, they had best learn who the boss is in that relationship.
This seems reasonable to me.
Morgan Stanley credits ‘Bidenomics’ in lifting its U.S. economic-growth outlook

Wow, Bidenomics strong.
Of course 1.9% is very Trumpian in its mediocrity.
And Biden did not have Democrat runs states shutting down for a year to hamper him.
You're a fucking moron. And a pedo.
Something good happens while your guy is in the White House? Give him all the credit!
Something bad happens and the other team has Congress? Blame Congress!
Your team has both the White House and Congress? Blame the previous administration!
It's always the other team's fault.
Fuck off and die, steaming pile of lefty shit.
You really are more pathetic than usual. You even defend shrike blaming states for shutting down the economy and pretend you're an intelligent and honest person.
And Biden did not have Democrat runs states shutting down for a year to hamper him.
Trump's GDP sucked BEFORE 2020, you moron. His GDP was mired in the mid-2% range after he promised amazing growth and a balanced budget.
Trump sucked ass without help from Democrats.

So apparently, a couple of days ago Obama's personal chef (who even worked at thd White House no less), a guy named Tafari Campbell, got fished out of the bottom of the pond about 100 feet from Obama's multimillion dollar palatial Matha's Vineyard estate by search and rescue divers.
The official story is that this guy was paddleboarding without a life jacket and fell off the board and drowned. Now far be it from me to accuse the liberals' most beloved and worshipped living human being on planet earth of doing anything nefarious, but to say that this story is little weird would be a massive understatement.
I have..... questions about this incident. A lot of questions actually.
The pond is 8 feet deep.
Too bad they didn't keep some illegals around to be lifeguards.
IF in fact the story we're being told is completely true, then this dude was just an idiot, now matter how skilled of a sous vide chef he might have been.
A serious note to all the dummies out there with too much time on your hands: you really should always wear a working and properly inflated life jacket when you go paddleboarding in deep waters, no matter how great of a swimmer you might believe you are. Stuff just happens sometimes. For example, your muscles can cramp up on you so badly that they practically stop working for a bit.
Global warming led to him dehydrating faster that led to muscle cramping. I blame C02.
He drowned. blame HO2
Yeah, but don't use an inflatable flotation device, use a type 3 or type 5 that won't restrict your movement.
My initial response was: Meh.
But then we hear the initial claim was that the Obamas weren’t there when it happened, but now it looks like they were.
Lying about every damn thing that happens just opens up conspiracy theories.
Apparently there is confirmation he had a book deal for a tell all too.
Obama told him the information that would lead to the arrest of Hillary Clinton.
That'll do it.
I wondered how long it would take for the conspiracy nuts to come forward.
That in itself sounds like a conspiracy theory.
Is it just easier to assume that an adult black man shouldn't be going out on the water without a life vest and water wings on?

Oh, no, I saw that one.
It was pretty good. Ricky Gervais would totally do that joke in his act.
That would be high praise to the person I stole it from.
Intolerance in Seattle.
https://www.thefp.com/p/seattle-times-writer-fired-over-hitler-lenin
The job was rewarding. From the first day, I found myself reporting on the protection of orcas and efforts to improve the level of civil discourse in Congress. When Pride Month came, my family proudly marched with The Seattle Times. What a beautiful new home, I thought to myself. How inclusive. How tolerant.
How naive.
Earlier this month, for my first official column, my boss urged me to write about the local statue of Vladimir Lenin that stands in Seattle’s Fremont neighborhood. The good people of Fremont enjoy dressing him up in tutus, Halloween costumes, and the like. I was more interested in writing about the astronomical cost of childcare in the city, but it wasn’t hard to make the column all my own. I simply had to talk about my refugee grandparents, making pelmeni with my babushka, and my grandfather Josef, the Nazi killer after whom I am named. I noted Lenin’s secret police raids, mass torture, forced resettlements, and genocidal killings.
Readers thanked me. Some shared stories of their own families fleeing Russia, or told me how their grandmothers broke down weeping when they reached America only to find Lenin staring down at them in the land of the free. Many critics claimed I had advocated for tearing the statue down. Perhaps the most common criticism I received was that no one takes the statue seriously.
Oh, but they do. They admire it.
But I made a mistake when I posted the column on Twitter and compared Lenin and Hitler. Here’s what I wrote: “In fact, while Hitler has become the great symbol of evil in history books, he too was less evil than Lenin because Hitler only targeted people he personally believed were harmful to society whereas Lenin targeted even those he himself didn’t believe were harmful in any way.”
That said, I do believe that in our culture many people have very little conception that communist leaders—Mao, Stalin, Pol Pot—have a far higher body count than fascists. Nor do they appreciate that Lenin was more ambitious in this regard than Hitler: his aim was to kill as many people as he possibly could. All ages, classes, faiths, ethnicities, regions.
Six days after my piece was published, I was relieved when my boss told me she had reviewed the Twitter conversation and concluded I had obviously not “defended” Hitler. I was told the company had my back. I was told the paper would not stand for a lying Twitter mob coming after one of its own.
But then, just a few hours later, my boss called me and told me I was fired.
It was Lenin who said that a lie told often enough becomes the truth. I wish I could say he was wrong. But I am comforted by the words of one of the great heroes of the twentieth century, Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, who wrote, “Let your credo be this: Let the lie come into the world, let it even triumph. But not through me.”
It would severely undermine a lot of modern philosophy if the public idea of complete monsters expanded to include communist leaders.
I do believe that in our culture many people have very little conception that communist leaders—Mao, Stalin, Pol Pot—have a far higher body count than fascists
What an understatement. Not only do they lie about how many people died under communist rule by magnitudes, they promote the completely unjustifiable belief that religious wars have killed far more people. The socialist-atheist propaganda machine has effectively rewritten much of the history prior to 1980.
That is how you get to, "Slavery in the Americas is the worst atrocity in human history."

Cynical, sickening 2024 campaign strategy.
https://nypost.com/2023/07/25/kamala-harris-slavery-lie-reveals-awful-2024-campaign-strategy/
If Vice President Kamala Harris’ disgraceful gaslighting on Florida’s black-history curriculum is any guide, the Biden-Harris 2024 run is sure to be a complete horror show.
Harris is following her boss’ lead and telling bizarre, brazen lies — in this case, about Florida’s new black history curriculum.
The curriculum, which is publicly available, investigates slavery fully: from slave codes to life post-Emancipation to the broader context of global slavery prior to 1619.
Harris’ lie, of course, is meant specifically to hurt GOP prez contender Fla. Gov. Ron DeSantis, who put his state’s curriculum reform effort in motion.
She’s already added it to a stump speech she delivered Friday in Jacksonville, suggesting it’s set to become a standard talking point.
Is this how Harris and Biden plan to campaign?
Why should they change how they campaigned since 2020 now?
What a cunt. The worst part is the indignity of Dr. William Allen, a black descendent of slaves, having to defend the curriculum he helped develop against whatever-the-fuck the VP is.
The curriculum even recognized the VP herself:
https://flvoicenews.com/creators-of-african-american-school-standards-say-guidelines-criticized-without-context/
I doubt it mentioned that her family owned slaves, so it kinda does avoid discussing such unpleasantness...
Dude, some of those black people are race traitors. Do you even social justice?
The Biden rules on this appear to be based on the current international standards on asylum seekers established by treaty. Whether these standards contradict US statutory law is not s9mething I had heard asserted before now. At the same time, the ACLU and their fellow travelers appear hellbent on forcing the government into an unworkable and unfair asylum policy in an attempt to break any restrictions on immigration.
I dunno. Maybe the ACLU and friends give a shit about these people.
Isn't that in contradiction of your continual assertions that anti-abortionists no longer care the moment the baby is born? "Their side is all about totalitarian control of reproductive rights, our side is only about caring for people, is a pretty shitty argument."
That is a good joke.
They are trying to force the country into a "worst of both worlds" immgration policy, and the country does not really have the resources to deal with the influx of "asylum" seekers the legal regime the court is imposing will create. That is not "caring" about those people.
So now, all of a sudden, we should be strict internationalists?
What a strange thing to argue all of a sudden.
Mike Liarson is a squawking bird named Dee and should be treated as such.
I hold out hope all people can change lol
Prepare for disappointment.

Big business.
https://nypost.com/2023/07/25/shoplifting-is-big-business-for-organized-theft-not-to-feed-families/
A recent video on Twitter showed a supermarket employee tussling with a shoplifter who had filled her bag with items. As the employee pulled the bag from her hand, she cried, “I have to feed my family!” That’s a common refrain from shoplifters these days, echoed in media headlines proclaiming that people have turned to stealing to put food on the table — despite a US social safety net that includes $185 billion in spending on food stamps and other nutrition-assistance programs.
In truth, America’s exploding shoplifting problem predates our current economic difficulties. Much of the stealing, store owners and security experts say, has less to do with putting food on the table than with a rise in organized theft, and it’s having a particularly adverse effect in cities where criminal-justice reforms have made it easy to get away with.
Organized retail crime now accounts for about half of store losses from theft. It has nothing to do with obtaining food for families; it’s about reselling stolen items for profit. Underlying the crime wave is the emergence of a sophisticated illegal infrastructure for recruiting shoplifters — everyone from gang members to illegal aliens — and disposing of the goods they heist. Gone are the days when petty criminals needed to sell goods through “fences” like legendary London underworld figure Ikey Solomon, so notorious for selling stolen goods from his Bell Lane jewelry shop that Charles Dickens based Fagin in “Oliver Twist” on him. Much of the merchandise grabbed today by shoplifters, called “boosters,” is sold by operators online — where they are hard to detect or track down. The illegal industry also includes “cleaners,” who strip goods of security devices or repackage stolen items, and money launderers, who process the transactions.
While incidents of stealing luxury goods — like the flash mob that stripped a Louis Vuitton store in San Francisco in 2021 — make headlines, the real money is in everyday items from mass-market retailers. A Craigslist search by security experts found that the top item under listings that appeared to be stolen merchandise were Tide Pods. Also high on the list were diapers, makeup, and baby formula.
The consequences are growing. Beyond massive retailer losses, states and cities are forfeiting some $15 billion annually in sales taxes. And more than half of retailers surveyed last year said that shoplifting incidents are becoming more violent. Last November, a shoplifter killed a security guard who tried to detain him in a Maryland supermarket, and another murdered a Home Depot guard in April. In San Francisco, authorities declined to press charges against a security guard who killed a shoplifter in Walgreens because they determined that the guard’s life was in danger.
All the larger grocery stores in our area that were built a while ago have two entrances, so people don’t have to walk so far to get to a door. They’ve now blocked off one of the entrances so they have a better chance at stopping the mass theft events.
And people actually have bitch fits over Dove Soap and men's socks being locked in cases and being asked for their receipts at the door. They think their wares are all Heaven-sent.
It's all manna from heaven. That's why we have the ever so wise and benevolent politicians and bureaucrats to redistribute it.

Gosh, I recall pointing this out just a few weeks ago. Thanks for finally joining the party, NY Post!
I also recall one of our resident lefties trying to minimize it through his side's predictable tactical ignorance.
Given how well San Francisco's city government is managed, it's easy to predict how this it going to turn out:
"Proposed S.F. public bank gets first review by supervisors"
[...]
"Could a century-old banking concept originally designed for North Dakota farmers help ease San Francisco’s perennial housing crisis and economic woes?
A city working group thinks so, proposing what would be the nation’s first municipal public bank to help fund housing projects — particularly those within reach for low- and middle-wage workers — as well as jump-start small-business recovery and creation..."

If there's a D in the WH when it does, it'll be bailed out.
that is in fact the actual purpose and plan here.
orchestrate a money transfer to allies. it's that simple. They KNOW it's going to fail, it's part of the pplan.
How is that even slightly relevant? Countries like Mexico are signatories to the Refugee convention. There’s nothing in asylum law that says that countries like Mexico should be disqualified.
On top of that, isn’t the ACLU and similar groups constantly saying this is a white supremacist country? So how is this a safe place?
Maybe Tigar should be informed that we have a safe third country agreement with Canada. Why doesn’t he rule that one unconstitutional? In fact, most European countries have the same agreement.
Article 31 of the 1951 convention (which our asylum law is based on), states that a refugee should not be punished for illegally entering a country – IF they are arriving directly from a country where they were under threat. That doesn’t apply to non-Mexicans traveling through Mexico.
so Brandon invites the whole fucking world to show up in Mexico to come on up and turns his back. is there no graft for his family in immigration?
What? The whole point of the story is Biden hasn’t been doing that, but has instead been putting up pretty big hurdles to seeking asylum.
saying the same thing.
He has done exactly that. You can see his own words here:
"What I would do as president is several more things, because things have changed. I would, in fact, make sure that there is -- we immediately surge to the border. All those people who are seeking asylum, they deserve to be heard. That's who we are. We're a nation who says, if you want to flee, and you're freeing oppression, you should come."
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYwLYMPLYbo
He only backpedaled on that and went to the Trump policy when he saw all the havoc the border chaos was creating, and his falling poll numbers. If he wins in 2024, he won't care anymore and will go back to opening the border again.
I don't think it was the chaos itself but the reaction of Republican governors sending them to sanctuary cities.
The Republican governors made a token effort, just a drop in the bucket of the total number of migrants. It got so bad that even the NYT wasn't able to black out coverage of homeless shelters being completely overrun and thousands of migrants sleeping on the streets of El Paso.

Yes!

INSURRECTIIIIOOOOOOOOONNN!
I have no intention of watching this garbage film, but I think it could have been good if they had just leaned into making Barbie a total airhead bimbo hot chick getting saved all the time by Ken.
The movie reminds me a lot of what happened with "Starship Troopers"--a film that was supposed to be a parody of the MIC with Nazi brushstrokes, but ended up being viewed as a dumb, but fun sci-fi action flick that became a meme all on its own.
"Barbie" is being touted in the mainstream media as this Big Cultural Moment. Yet it's clearly just a 2nd/3rd wave feminist parody of what women like Gerwig have hated for decades now, and Ken ends up being the star of the show for the exact reason that Gosling is practically a walking meme himself. I suspect that, about a year from now, Ken will basically be an MRA/4chan mascot and the movie itself is going to be looked at as a massive self-own.
As I said elsewhere, there are a dozen different plots that would essentially work just as well, if not better, for kids without the explicit social commentary or explicitly pitting the sexes against each other: The LEGO Movie, Free Guy, Monsters Inc.
And/or, even if you wanted to own the social commentary you could easily do something like Office Space, Hot Fuzz, Idiocracy, Tropic Thunder, Airplane!, Blazing Saddles... ...but then, of course, you'd have to recognize the fact that, more than likely, you're not going to hit your (presumably) 13 and under target demo with an PG-13/R rating.
