U.S. Intelligence Leak Suspect Identified as 21-Year-Old Jack Teixeira
Plus: More secrecy from the Global Disinformation Index, the public awaits another big Supreme Court abortion decision, and more...

On Thursday, the FBI arrested a suspect in the leak of hundreds of pages of U.S. intelligence documents. That suspect is Jack Teixeira, a 21-year-old Air National Guardsman, who was identified by The New York Times and taken into custody shortly thereafter.
Teixeira was an active member and administrator of "Thug Shaker Central," his private Discord forum where a group of young men—many of them teenagers—would discuss video games, guns, and more. Teixeira, a leader and mentor to the others, aimed to impress them by sharing classified documents he had obtained:
It was Airman Teixeira, a member of the Massachusetts National Guard, his friends in the group said, who somehow obtained the classified documents and posted them to the group. From there, they eventually spilled into the open, potentially compromising U.S. intelligence gathering and damaging relations with allies.
In interviews, members of Thug Shaker Central said their group had started out as a place where young men and teenage boys could gather amid the isolation of the pandemic to bond over their love of guns, share memes — sometimes racist ones — and play war-themed video games.
But Airman Teixeira, who one member of the group called O.G. and was also its unofficial leader, wanted to teach the young acolytes who gravitated to him about actual war, members said.
And so, beginning in at least October, Airman Teixeira, who was attached to the Guard's intelligence unit, began sharing descriptions of classified information, group members and law enforcement officials said, eventually uploading hundreds of pages of documents, including detailed battlefield maps from Ukraine and confidential assessments of Russia's war machine.
The FBI had already identified Teixeira as the likely source of the leak and had him under surveillance, but the Times story forced it to act sooner, according to Fox News.
Teixeira was arrested at his family's home in North Dighton, Massachusetts, a rural community. He is expected to appear in court later today. Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a statement that the airman surrendered without incident and will be charged with unauthorized removal of classified national defense information.
The documents themselves revealed the United States' grave concerns about the stability of the Ukrainian position in the war with Russia. While the leaker's motivation might be personal rather than ideological, it remains the case that the public deserves honest assessments of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The Biden administration has committed to funding Ukraine's defense for "as long as it takes" to win the war, even if the idea that Ukrainian forces can sweep Russian forces from the country is unrealistic.

Who funds the disinformation-tracking industrial complex? The Global Disinformation Index (GDI) declined to publicly disclose certain tax information, citing concerns that its donors could face "harassment."
That's according to the Washington Examiner's Gabe Kaminsky, who has published a series of reports on the GDI's activities. The GDI is partially funded by the State Department and works to discourage advertisers from using websites that allegedly spread misinformation and disinformation. Reason was targeted by one of these campaigns; the GDI listed it as one of the "ten riskiest online news outlets," ostensibly because Reason did not have transparent authorship and corrections policies. The group has not responded to a request for comment.
Later, I discovered that the GDI's own website included false information about the group's journalistic advisers. And now the GDI is trying to shield its donors from scrutiny:
Upon inquiring about omissions on the sets of tax forms, a lawyer representing the GDI groups sent the Washington Examiner a letter on April 6, which appears to have also been sent to the IRS and tax administration inspector general for the Treasury Department. The attorney, Marcus Owens of the firm Loeb & Loeb, said that the groups are "withholding" details from their disclosures due to federal codes and regulations concerning "harassment campaigns" against groups.
"The Index's personnel and their families have received multiple threats and hacking attacks, including threats of violence against their children," Owens, who directed the Exempt Organizations division at the IRS between 1990 and 2000, wrote in the letter. "As such, the organization is working [with] appropriate law enforcement authorities, telecommunications and Internet organizations; has appropriately withheld information that could lead to furtherance of this behavior."
Owens did not reply to follow-up requests on Thursday and Monday for an IRS ruling in connection to the alleged campaign and details on whether the Washington Examiner was deemed as part of it. It's unclear who else may be part of the alleged campaign.
Kaminsky quotes an attorney who points out that "it's kind of ironic that a group whose mission is transparency is withholding the names of its officers."

The Supreme Court could rule quickly on whether the abortion drug mifepristone can remain available, following contradictory rulings from lower courts. According to Axios:
The Supreme Court could rule as soon as today in the legal battle over abortion pills — and could effectively override the Food and Drug Administration's decision-making if it doesn't turn back a ruling limiting the use of the drug mifepristone….
Justices could decide to stay lower courts' limitations on abortion pills while the appeals process plays out, punting larger questions about the appropriate role the judicial system can play in regard to drug approvals.
Or, as two federal courts have already, the high court could issue an order that effectively overrides the FDA's authority.

Gotta love when they admit the silent part out loud.
C'mon. They were just little crimes.
On Thursday, the FBI arrested a suspect in the leak of hundreds of pages of U.S. intelligence documents.
There is no reason to not trust the feds on this.
Not saying he DIDN'T do it --- but how, exactly, would he have gotten the intel? He had approximately zero access to them.
The White House said it's not even intel, it's just some words on a page... but words on a page that "shouldn't be in the public domain", but probably not even real. But please take them out of the public domain, and this guy needs to be arrested for these words on the page... which probably aren't even real.
Look! A squirrel! (any bets on what that squirrel will be next week?)
Government employees don't follow the same NTK regulations as they enforce on contractors. I was at a site where the government set up a single account and password for all contractor access. The password was 3 letters.
That’s the most interesting question here. He was in the “Intel” branch of the Air National Guard, but that doesn’t go far in explaining anything.
Had a relative that worked for a major government contractor. After Snowden, they implemented an auditing system that tracked every keystroke made by every account and required massive amounts of repeated logins to continue to prove at every level who was accessing what. It seems strange to me that this is even possible.
Contractors have much more explicit requirements government agencies exempt themselves from.
If you read the article you'd know he was a frequent contributor on a website where he and other disaffected Trumpstan types discussed, among other things, guns.
But no, you people just want to push conspiracy theories. Yawn.
Yup. This discord was already there, lots of people knew about it, authorities are closing in on it, they just needed confirmation of who the dude actually was. Which didn't take a lot of sleuthing at that point. It's going to be apretty much open and shut case.
The the foundation stone of all conspiracy theories is to never attribute to error incompetency what can be otherwise attributed to a sinister conspiracy.
Government in this case was incompetent. Such should not be a surprise, even to Trumpistas, because all government is incompetent. So yeah, an incompetent government erred in providing access to sensitive documents to a man-child in the reserves who hadn't even finished a full tour yet.
Lmao
The the foundation stone of all conspiracy theories is to never attribute to error incompetency what can be otherwise attributed to a sinister conspiracy.
Coincidentally, the inverse happens to be the foundation stone of blissful and even excessive ignorance.
Not every inept criminal is part of a larger cover up but, at the same time, people generally don't shoot themselves in the back of a head before jumping off a bridge either, no matter what the official report says.
I don’t recall the article mentioning Trump at all, my brother. Are you sure you read it?
Okay, I get he belongs to an intelligence unit, but how was a guardsman granted access to such compartmentalized information? If it wasn't compartmentalized, why not? His unit must be doing far more than any other unit does on drill, which generally involves motor pool and looking busy. Oh, we're going to do high speed training next drill. Next drill: go inventory conexes again, (I know you did it last drill) and pmcs all assigned vehicles and we'll have closing formation early this weekend.
Narrator: closing formation was not early, despite the unit achieving all it's goals by lunch formation on Saturday, instead Sunday they weren't allowed to sign out until two hours past scheduled closing formation.
Some Air National Guard units have, for instance, pilots for drones which can be controlled from stateside bases. Guard units are more heavily integrated into the operations of the regular military more than most people know.
Former reservist here, and son who is national guard. No, no they aren't.

Adults in charge.
I'm a big fan of LED fixtures, lamps & bulbs, now that the technology has improved to the point that they largely mimic incandescent lamps in terms of color rendering index and color temperature. I think they are the best choice for most people in most residential and small commercial general applications.
However, I'm not OK with banning incandescents. I wasn't when Obama did it, when LED's were less available to a retail consumer, and much higher priced. I'm not OK with it now, when it's mostly pointless virtue signalling considering how widely adopted and inexpensive the LED has become.
Because, there are particular specialty applications where an incandescent is absolutely the correct choice, for any one (or several) of a multitude of possible characteristics. Artificially removing options from the marketplace hurts people who might need that product for those specialty situations, and generally violates everyone else's rights to make their own decisions.
First they came for my child's easy bake oven...
Light bulb? or because you are forcing a gender stereotype on a child? Both?
Good point.
This just in: Father arrested for gender stereotyping after buying young male offspring baseball glove. Film at 11:00
Man who identifies as dog bites dog who identifies as man story.
Hey, that better not be a gas oven.
Yep, good luck baking cookies with an LED.
And they make LED heat lamps, for restaurant or agricultural uses, but because LED's are so much more efficient at turning electricity into light, they are actually terribly inefficient as a heat source.
Amen. And everything you just said applies to the road we are starting to go down with banning ICE automobiles.
Of course, the answer would be “it’s totally different because stopping automobiles from polluting is important!”
Mike is quickly trying to appear a centrist after being called out as a leftist yet again lol.

Yeah, it's a similar argument, but even more fraught. Because it's not just waiting for the technology or affordability to catch up.
Electric and hybrid vehicles might emit less pollution at the tailpipe, or lack thereof, but you have to consider the source of the generation of said electricity. Incandescent and LED light bulbs have the same power source, so it's much more oranges-oranges.
If you're burning coal or LNG as a fuel at your power plant, and then stepping up and stepping down the voltage with transformers on both the source and delivery ends, not to mention transmission loss due to resistance over long distances, you've just replaced the location of the pollution source, and haven't made anything more efficient.
Then you have people like me. I don't have a garage; I park on the street (like most of my neighbors). I don't have a source to plug in an EV or even a plug-in hybrid. If we made the switch, what would we do, have assigned street parking at each personal charging station? Who's buying all those charging stations and paying for the install?
What about rural citizens? We're still trying to get a lot of them broadband internet, 25 years later. You think a town of a few hundred in flyover country is going to have a charging stop?
Electric vehicles are probably a great choice for a lot of people, depending on their situation. But they should not be the only choice.
We bought a Nissan Leaf for my wife, but the only reason we went ahead with it was (a) we have my ICE car for longer trips, (b) we had an electrician come out before we bought to verify we could run a new 220v outlet in the garage.
The Leaf is only useful for errands around town. There are a few public charging stations in our city, but my wife’s experience is most of them turn out to be broken.
Sounds sort of fascisty.
No, no, fascism is free markers, right to bear arms, presumption of innocence, and free speech absolutism. Because everyone knows that Hitler and Mussolini and Franco never tried to control every aspect of what people see, do, buy and sell, they totes were known as totalitarians because they gave everyone freedoms.
At least that's what the blue haired barista who served me coffee told me, and she would know with her pHD in Womyns/Gender/trans studies.
The Crackdown Cometh Leaks for me, not for thee
"On a flight, reading about the FBI’s arrest of Jack Texiera, already dubbed the “Pentagon Leaker.” A quick review reveals multiple media portraits already out depicting him as a dangerous incel who shared his wares on Discord, a social media app where “racist memes” and “offensive jokes” flourish. Writes the New York Times: ‘Dark humor about race or ideology can eventually shape the beliefs of impressionable young people, and innocuous memes can be co-opted into symbols of hatred, researchers say’… The Washington Post went with ‘charismatic gun enthusiast’…
When civilians or whistleblowers like Edward Snowden, Julian Assange (in jail for an incredible four years now), Reality Winner and now the “Discord Leaker” bring leaked information to the public, the immediate threat is Espionage Act charges and decades of jail time. When a CIA head or a top FBI official does it, it’s just news. In fact, officials talk openly about using “strategic leaks” as a P.R. staple. In a world where media currency is becoming the ultimate power, these people want a monopoly.”
Trump's phone calls were leaked, but there wasn't even any curiosity. I bet they are still looking for the Dobbs leaker, he or she is probably the real killer that OJ is pursuing.
Sigh. Remember when Daniel Ellsberg was a hero of the left and media (to be redundant) for taking on the Pentagon and leaking documents that embarrassed the government? I wonder what has changed.
The same thing that happened when people leaked under Obama.
Dangerous? He looks like he's about to change his name to Jacqueline...
...who somehow obtained the classified documents and posted them to the group.
Somehow.
ANG E3, prototypical secret agent.
If anyone actually knows how this could happen, but I can imagine that Teixeira was tasked to print things for a meeting of officers and/or cleaning up after a meeting.
Views of Trump overall have taken a hit too, with only 25% thinking favorably of him, down 10 points since right before the last presidential election. In comparison, President Joe Biden's favorability rating currently stands at 34%, according to the poll.

If anything he posts isn’t a lie, it’s totally accidental.
turd lies; it’s what he does. turd is a lying pile of lefty shit.
WTF?
Why is Biden's rating so low? According to you he's a smashing success in both domestic policy (best economy ever) and foreign policy (Putin on the verge of being overthrown and hanged).
Maybe spam that manufacturing link a thousand more times. That might push Dementia Joe above 40%. 🙂

He's trying to feign that he is not fervently pro-Biden.
[Polite silence about Biden’s boots-on-the-ground election chances.]
You're referring to my belief that American soldiers dying for Ukraine would be bad for Biden's 2024 campaign? And that Biden's handlers are almost certainly smart enough to realize this?
OK. I still think that's true. This hasn't convinced me that Biden's people are dumb enough to create a situation where Biden runs for reelection as reports of American casualties keep pouring in.
I see, actually knowing that there are boots on the ground doesn't change the calculus any. Got it.
So, exactly how many bodies would have to start pouring in before you don't believe whatever was said behind the grey box about his popularity numbers?
Is it because I enjoy throwing people's failed predictions in their faces that you're being so pedantic about this one? I admit I've been wrong before. I thought Republicans would decisively win the House in 2022. Instead it took days to find out they just barely squeaked out a majority. And I wasn't yet on Reason.com in 2016 but I expected Clinton to win.
If you want specifics, I'll put it like this. If, in the 100 days leading up to the 2024 election, there is even one American soldier killed in action in the Russia - Ukraine war, I'll say "Wow. I was wrong. I am surprised the Biden Admin. was stupid enough to let that happen."

I think almost everyone expected Clinton to win.
The left / media (but I repeat myself) meltdown that evening and the following day or two was hilarious. Epic even.
(I voted for Gay Jay)
Same. That was a weird experience. First time I'd ever been in a recognizably different stage of grief from lots of other people.
I mean, *I* knew I was going to be unhappy with whoever won the 2016 election all the way back in 2000. A whole bunch of people only found out just that morning! People in the office I worked at were really horrified.
And then I got to be relatively pleasantly surprised about the whole presidency.
Yeah, it was weird. As someone who voted for Johnson (but hoped that Hillary would lose), I kept getting blamed for letting OrangeManBad win. Therefore, I had no time for grief as I was back to fighting dipshits unhappy with the fact that I get to choose who I vote for.
Is it because I enjoy throwing people’s failed predictions in their faces that you’re being so pedantic about this one?
No. It's because it's so hard to tell bad predictions from vague deference from cheerleading behind a stalking horse.
Pretty sure you're around enough to recognize the distinction between 'polite silence' and openly calling peoples' bullshit (not to mention the pedantry) from me.
I can't imagine that senile old mannequin being able to even motivate enough. It must be hell trying to keep that zombie animated with enough Adderall and electro shock therapy to even keep it upright. The more they use it the less effective it becomes and sooner or later Biden will be a useless lump of human flesh in a near vegetative state.
I'm willing to say he isn't going to make it.
It's the conservative MSM that bashes him relentlessly .
Yes, those famous far right extremists on CBS who totally destroyed his so called analysis of the Afghanistan withdrawal. I know you're being sarcastic, but some people actually think this, and they also see CNN as right wing biased. I've seen them post that unironically.
A Guide to Understanding the Hoax of the Century
https://strategic-culture.org/news/2023/04/01/a-guide-to-understanding-the-hoax-of-the-century/
In his last days in office, President Barack Obama made the decision to set the country on a new course. On Dec. 23, 2016, he signed into law the Countering Foreign Propaganda and Disinformation Act, which used the language of defending the homeland to launch an open-ended, offensive information war.
Something in the looming specter of Donald Trump and the populist movements of 2016 reawakened sleeping monsters in the West. Disinformation, a half-forgotten relic of the Cold War, was newly spoken of as an urgent, existential threat. Russia was said to have exploited the vulnerabilities of the open internet to bypass U.S. strategic defenses by infiltrating private citizens’ phones and laptops. The Kremlin’s endgame was to colonize the minds of its targets, a tactic cyber warfare specialists call “cognitive hacking.”
...Since 2016, the federal government has spent billions of dollars on turning the counter-disinformation complex into one of the most powerful forces in the modern world: a sprawling leviathan with tentacles reaching into both the public and private sector, which the government uses to direct a “whole of society” effort that aims to seize total control over the internet and achieve nothing less than the eradication of human error.
...Using its new powers and direct channels inside the tech companies, the White House began sending lists of people it wanted banned, such as journalist Alex Berenson. Berenson was kicked off Twitter after tweeting that mRNA vaccines don’t “stop infection. Or transmission.” As it turned out, that was a true statement.
Sigh. Remember when we feared Russian attempts to brainwash susceptible Americans on the left?
The sad part of that is that it already has happened. The colleges and universities are filled with post modernist neo_Marxists. These are the ones behind trans, convincing everyone a victim of white males and creating ANTIFA and Black Lives Matter.
An ex KGB agent said they were doing this using American universities. It is all according to their plan.
USSA indeed.
We Westerners have to get off our high horses, nothing our governments are doing is different from 70's Soviets anymore.
Remember progressives are actually regressive. They have a definition of heresy and blasphemy that would make the late Medieval Catholic Church and early modern period Puritans state "whoa wait a minute, that goes a step to far" and in their eyes were all Lollards and Hussites and Cathars all at once (they even have indulgences, papal infallibility etc). Why not relive the glory days of the Cold war too?
It wasn't exactly a surprise to most people when Obama signed the bill into law: It had passed the Senate in a vote of 92-7 earlier that month. You make it sound like it was his idea for some [totally unknown] reason...

Progressives in the 2020s: taking nihilism to new levels.
One of the arguments I love is when you point out that gender reassignment has little to no impact on suicide rates thus it can't be stated to be successful, and the pro crowd scream that isn't evidence it isn't successful and they point to polls (often user participation polls) showing those who reassign are 'happier'. Happy enough they swallow a pistol. Seems really happy to me. I know the two times I seriously contemplated it, both times I was so ecstatic that the pure joy was why I wanted to off myself... Oh wait, that isn't what happened.

Boston Children’s Hospital director calls for drastic increase in capacity for gender surgeries for minors
Good thing Mike says this is imaginary.
Since December, a small but growing group of journalists, analysts, and researchers have documented the rise of a “Censorship Industrial Complex”, a network of U.S. government agencies, and government-funded think tanks. Over the last six years, these entities have coordinated their efforts to both spread disinformation and to censor journalists, politicians, and ordinary Americans. They have done so directly and indirectly, including by playing good cop/bad cop with Twitter and Facebook. Hundreds and perhaps thousands of people have been involved in these censorship and disinformation campaigns in the U.S., Canada, and the UK.
We now know, thanks to the Twitter Files, emails released by the Attorney Generals of Missouri and Louisiana, and research by others, that the Censorship Industrial Complex is violating the First Amendment by coordinating with government agencies and receiving government funding to pressure and help social media companies to both censor information, including accurate information, while spreading disinformation, including conspiracy theories.
And such efforts are continuing if not accelerating. At Biden’s “Summit for Democracy” last week, US allies in Europe demanded that Facebook censor “false narratives” and news that would “weaken our support to Ukraine.” Facebook agreed.
One of the most intelligent, influential, and fascinating public-facing leaders of the Censorship Industrial Complex is Renee DiResta, Research Manager of the Stanford Internet Observatory. Diresta has, more than anyone else, made the public case for greater government-led and government-funded censorship, writing for The New York Times, The Atlantic, Wired, and other major publications, and through public speaking, including on podcasts with Joe Rogan and Sam Harris.

Another of PGP’s initiatives is the Public Health Communications Collaborative (PHCC), which sits within the CDC Foundation—a nonprofit arm of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) established by Congress.
The goal of the communications collaborative, according to PGP, is to decrease misinformation and increase vaccine demand worldwide. And it’s using social media influencers to silence vaccine detractors.
In addition to its social media initiates, PGP runs The Public Good News, a nonprofit newsroom “dedicated to accurate health news.” It states of its mission, “The erosion of trust in science and shared facts is a threat to our democratic way of life.” On Jan. 20, it posted an article titled, “CDC data shows bivalent boosters are safe.”
To combat “vaccine hesitancy worldwide,” on April 29, 2021, UNICEF, the Yale Institute for Global Health, and PGP started the Vaccination Demand Observatory.
Of its efforts to increase vaccinations, PGP stated, “The coronavirus pandemic is the defining public health crisis of our time, and the U.S.—and the world—is currently in the middle of the largest immunization campaign in history. Yet misinformation threatens these efforts, fueling an ‘infodemic’ of myths, lies, and inaccurate information. In the campaigns below, we use our expertise in media monitoring to fight misinformation and decrease vaccine hesitancy.”
Some of PGP’s recent partners include Google, The Rockefeller Foundation, UNICEF, and Yale Institute for Global Health.
Our tax dollars are literally paying for "non profits" created by government entities to hid what they are lying to us about. If any private company played these kind of corporate shell games they would be in jail. We are so screwed no one knows the truth anymore even those who are manipulating the truth don't know what the truth is anymore how O'rwellian of them. this is why the truth is whatever they make it that day since there is no true history anymore
"no one knows the truth anymore"
Agree with a lot of what you say, but I don't think it is so that "no one knows the truth anymore". Government attempts to suppress information haven't shown much of a track record of working.
Alternative information sources are readily available. Pretty much any controversial news item that comes up in the Reason morning links, commenters are here immediately posting their alternative version of what really happened.
Good to see your thick skull is still buried in the sand.
Some people talked in basements during the USSR. So no big deal. - Mike.
Governments should spend 0 dollars on these efforts leftist shit.

Yes but they’re all racist.
well, ok what they say is actually true, but it’s not as bad as you say.
Ok, it’s true, it’s just what you said, but it’s a good thing.

Give an example sea lion.
Has anybody really known the truth? The government in Washington and every state version has been lying to the people for a long time.
They all lie, cheat and steal.
You know when a politician is lying don't you?
All governments lie and all governments steal. Let that be your motto of guidance.
" this is why the truth is whatever they make it that day since there is no true history anymore"
As Biden once said, they believe in truth over facts.
A term I learned from Michael Shellenberger this morning: GONGO, government-organized (and funded) non-governmental organization.
Like a "legit" business front owned by the mafia.
"I am the first reporter to get to the bottom of the story, which has far more to do with drugs, homelessness, and pedophilia than QAnon, anti-Semitism, and January 6."
Er, did Shellenberger ever apologise for getting the David DePape story so wrong?
Conspiracy theory!!!
Still no manifesto.....
young men and teenage boys could gather amid the isolation of the pandemic to bond over their love of guns, share memes — sometimes racist ones —
Oh no!!! Sharing a meme that a leftist deemed racist!!! And GUNS!!!
He should just dye his hair and switch genders and all of the heat will die down.
they could also be "slightly sexist"
That’s how to react to a story about someone who is not you being arrested for an infamous, alleged crime: latch onto any aspect of the story that you can use to feed your victimhood.
Oh. Because Mackey was just found guilty of memes? Keep defending the state white Mike.
Mike can’t help himself. He desperately wants to live in a carefully-managed “libertarian” utopia where nobody ever criticizes the government.
His alleged crime should be the focus, not speculation of memes and his fondness for guns. As for the victimhood narrative you continue flapping about, I am aware of the disparity of details when a lefty vs a righty commits a crime.
Recent example: Crazy trannie bitch kills children and the MSM refused to use the “trans” moniker. The white house declared that trans people are under attack.
I know you excuse my accurate observation as “victimhood mentality” but if you had any intellectual honesty, you would acknowledge the gap in reporting even through it clashes with your progressive ideals. Key phrase being intellectual honesty.
“the focus”
It’s one sentence in the Times article. Who is the one here focusing on it?
If you had any intellectual honesty, you’d admit I’ve never said anything to justify your labeling me as a progressive.
This is a lie. All your energy here is spent defending government and the left. You also freely call others conservative. Just above you talk about conservative victim mentality. Stop your bullshit. You even said "your victim hood "
Stop talking about intellectual honesty.
Bob - "His alleged crime should be the focus, not speculation of memes and his fondness for guns.
Mike - "“the focus" It’s one sentence in the Times article. Who is the one here focusing on it, Idaho Bob?"
Absolutely fucking amazing.
And then he actually has the balls to say "If you had any intellectual honesty, you’d admit I’ve never said anything to justify your labeling me as a progressive"
Do you guys really think Mike lacks this much self-awareness, or is he just being deliberately disingenuous?
What a piece of shit.
Do you guys really think Mike lacks this much self-awareness, or is he just being deliberately disingenuous?
Both.
I openly admit, I think he's a fed working in the Dept of Misinformation basement, trying to convince people that modern progressivism is The Way.
He's a mole, but really bad at his job.
Link to even one comment where I have ever promoted progressivism.
Covid, trans issues, trump russia, trump raid, j6, Kyle Rittenhouse should be guilty, censorship is fine, trump abd DeSantis are Hitler, polis is dreamy...
There are actually more than two tribes.
"latch onto any aspect of the story that you can use to feed your victimhood."
You might be more convincing if you guys weren't constantly victimizing dissidents and dissenters, Mike.
Mike how did you feel about the supreme court leak? Why also is that one impossible to figure out?
It was wrong for someone to leak the Supreme Court decision.
I don’t know why they can’t find the person.
Also, in your mind, what is the relevance of your question to the topic of this comment thread?
Ask him about non violent j6 protestors.
According to Tucker, they were all non-violent--and he's seen thousands of hours of video to prove it!
It was a mostly peaceful protest unlike the mostly peaceful but fiery protest that occurred several months earlier in D.C.
Now you're contradicting Carlson.
Or, as two federal courts have already, the high court could issue an order that effectively overrides the FDA's authority.

https://thegrayzone.com/2019/10/13/dcs-atlantic-council-raked-in-funding-from-hunter-bidens-corruption-stained-employer-while-courting-his-vp-father/
With its relentless focus on corruption in Russia and Ukraine, the Atlantic Council has distinguished itself from other top-flight think tanks in Washington. Over the past several years, it has held innumerable conferences and panel discussions, issued a string of reports, and published literally hundreds of essays on Russia’s “kleptocracy” and the scourge of Kremlin disinformation.
At the same time, this institution has posed as a faithful partner to Ukraine’s imperiled democracy, organizing countless programs on the urgency of economic reforms to tamp down on corruption in the country.
But behind the curtain, the Atlantic Council has initiated a lucrative relationship with a corruption-tainted Ukrainian gas company, the Burisma Group, that is worth as much as $250,000 a year. The partnership has paid for lavish conferences in Monaco and helped bring Burisma’s oligarchic founder out of the cold.
This alliance has remained stable even as official Washington goes to war over allegations by President Donald Trump and his allies that former Vice President Joseph Biden fired a Ukrainian prosecutor to defend his son’s handsomely compensated position on Burisma’s board.
As Biden parries Trump’s accusations, some of the former vice president’s most ardent defenders are emerging from the halls of the Atlantic Council, which featured Biden as a star speaker at its awards ceremonies over the years. These advocates include Michael Carpenter, Biden’s longtime foreign policy advisor and specialist on Ukraine, who has taken to the national media to support his embattled boss.
"former Vice President Joseph Biden fired a Ukrainian prosecutor to defend his son’s handsomely compensated position on Burisma’s board."
Pluggo swore to me those emails were all actually about Hunter's penis.

Head of U.S. Government News Agency Rejects Twitter’s ‘Government-Funded’ Label
"U.S. Agency for Global Media is funded entirely by the United States government...
"We completely reject the implications of the label ‘government-funded,’" said Bennett, according to a State Department transcript. "Of course we’re government-funded, but it’s potentially misleading."
Bennett, a former director of Voice of America, claimed that the label could be misconstrued as "government-controlled." She insisted that the U.S. Agency for Global Media and its subsidiaries are "independent" and "not government-controlled."
Bennett’s case may be a tough sell. The Biden administration allocated $840 million in funds to the U.S. Agency for Global Media this fiscal year. The agency, which operates in 62 countries, is tasked with "telling America’s story and countering anti-American propaganda."
Reading this reminds me of arguing with Mike, Jeff and Sqrlsy. "Of course X is true, but it's not true-true".
“Of course we’re government-funded, but it’s potentially misleading.”
Newspeak: Naked and out in the open.
That's some impressive double-speak right there.
It actually kinda makes sense if you shoot up meth and concurrently have a stroke.
Did you see Overt's prediction came true in less than 24 hours? I knew it would come true, but I had no idea how quickly.
No one was force-forced to take the vaccine.
Actually, as Idaho Bob himself gave as an example, Washington State employees were forced to take the vaccine.
What the heck is "force-forced"?
And look Paul, all of a sudden it wasn't him.
They also defended Australian covid campa, despite use of police, as at least they weren’t gassing them.
Or in this thread, censorship is okay by government if you can find that information is elsewhere.
And nobody has made such a narrow argument. So, Overt is bad at predicting, as Idaho Bob is bad at predicting in his comment at the top of this page.
Yesterday, you were the one who went for a narrow argument, bringing up side effects of the AZ vaccine, which isn’t even used in the US, in a discussion thread about FDA approvals of COVID vaccines.
There are more side effects than the one you claim sea lion.

In this thread you denied anyone being forced, admitted that Washington State University did in fact force it on people, said that an employer forcing it on people is a-ok, and mocked people for saying that forcing someone to get an experimental treatment was oppressive force.
“U.S. Agency for Global Media is funded entirely by the United States government… “We completely reject the implications of the label ‘government-funded,’”
I’m sure idiots also reject the implications of the label “idiot,” but that doesn’t stop them from being idiots.
She's right believe it or not. The US Agency for Global Media is part of the government and its head, Ms Bennett, is had to be nominated for the position by the President and confirmed by the Senate.
They are not government-funded media, they are state-media.
She seems to have confused "government-funded" with "state-affiliated". That was what the recent NPR meltdown was about.
Of course, with Musk first labelling NPR "state-affiliated" and then changing the label a few days later to "government-funded", many people were understandably confused. Geniuses like Elon frequently make seemingly arbitrary and inexplicable decisions--but that's only because they're playing 5D chess, and we're not...
Alright Shrike, explain why you think NPR isn't both “government-funded” AND “state-affiliated”.
Nothing wrong with alternating between two applicable labels.
And for fuck's sake quit sockpuppeting. Nobody's fooled you know.
Other than you, obviously.
"How state-affiliated media accounts are defined
State-affiliated media is defined as outlets where the state exercises control over editorial content through financial resources, direct or indirect political pressures, and/or control over production and distribution. Accounts belonging to state-affiliated media entities, their editors-in-chief, and/or their senior staff may be labeled.
State-financed media organizations with editorial independence, like the BBC in the UK or NPR in the US for example, are not defined as state-affiliated media for the purposes of this policy."

Students demand ability to select roommate based on race during days-long sit-in
"“The general consensus is that black students, and we’re talking specifically on behalf of Black students, may feel safer and better rooming with other Black students rather than saying the same race has an implementation of a profile system or a portal system. That includes interests as well as race,” a representative of the student protesters said during the meeting."
The Dems never stopped being the KKK, they just switched strategies.
And color.
I can't even imagine the national outrage that would occur if that was a white guy advocating for white students to live together under the excuse that they don't feel "safe" with other types of students.
Yeah.
"I don't feel safe rooming with a black guy, I want to stick with white people."
Sounds pretty bad.
Isn't that line of thought exactly what caused Scott Adams to be cancelled?
So there’s a photo with a bunch of white students demanding to be housed with the same race, yet… I’m somehow the racist in this current political climate.
Jesus fuckin’ a.
It’s stormfront in with a with a nose ring, a hoodie and flip flops
Scott adams just got canceled for pointing this out.
But if white student wanted a white roommate because he felt safer, well that's just racist and he's probably a white supremacist.
Well if the new segregationists get their way his odds would improve so glass half empty, glass half full.
But this is good racism! Don't you get even the most basic tenet of progressive critical theory? The only way to undo centuries of bad racism is with good racism. The fact that doing so requires us to submit to totalitarian progressives is just a coincidence.

Biden’s DOJ recommends no jail time for abortion activist who vandalized church, assaulted worker
"Nota, a transgender man, was charged with a hate crime and assault for vandalizing the church, and tossing rocks at and spray-painting an employee of the church, according to the Bellevue Reporter.
Nota smashed two of the church’s glass doors, defaced religious statues and painted “women haters,” “kid groomers,” “we hate gay people,” “rot in hell,” and “F–k Catholics” on the church’s walls, the newspaper reported, citing charging documents."

Senior Biden Admin Official Claims Racism Cost US Economy $16 Trillion
"Susan Rice, director of the United States Domestic Policy Council, made the claim—which she said was specifically racial discrimination against black Americans—at the National Action Network convention on April 12.
“In the last 20 years, the U.S. had a GDP shortfall of $16 trillion due to discrimination against black Americans,” Rice said. “If we closed our racial gaps, we could add another $5 trillion to GDP over just the next five years...”
“closing the Black wage gap” could have added an additional $2.7 trillion in income available for consumption or investment, while providing “fair and equitable lending” to black entrepreneurs might have created an additional $13 trillion in business revenue over the last 20 years.
The report also claimed that improving access to housing credit could have added an additional 770,000 black homeowners over the last 20 years, with combined sales and expenditures adding another $218 billion to gross domestic product over that time.
Facilitating increased access to higher education for black students could have also bolstered lifetime incomes to an aggregate sum of $90 billion to $113 billion, the report states.
(Rice's) comments come just days after Vice President Kamala Harris unveiled a new $1.7 billion grant program aimed at helping small businesses in underserved communities access the capital and financing services they need to recover from COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns.
Under that program, the billions of dollars will be granted to approximately 603 community lenders or banks that primarily serve “overlooked” and minority communities..."
Is there anything that bad racism cannot do? And anything that can't be fixed with good racism?
I love the fact that racism is now only considered one way, against one specific race. Anti-Asian, Anti-Hispanic, and Anti-anyone else is no longer a concern.
Is she talking reparations?
https://dossier.substack.com/p/fauci-quietly-begins-advising-mysterious?publication_id=69009&post_id=112514972&isFreemail=true
According to several Italian press reports, Fauci has agreed to serve in a consulting capacity to a newly created “anti-pandemic” bio lab, which is being run by a high-level Italian scientist and longtime pharmaceutical executive.
Italy’s ANSA news wire service reports:
“American immunologist Anthony Fauci has agreed to act in an informal capacity as a strategic advisor to Rino Rappuoli, scientific director of the Biotecnopolo biotech hub in Siena, an institution founded by the Ministries of the University, Health, Economy and Industry with the aim of focusing on applied research in biotechnologies and life sciences, the Fondazione Biotecnopolo announced this week.”
...Before becoming the chief scientist for the new bio lab, Dr Rappuoli was the head of vaccine research and development at GSK, the Big Pharma behemoth formerly known as GlaxoSmithKline. He is also the Professor of Vaccines Research at Imperial College, London, the home of the infamous computer model simulations that helped to launch the coronavirus hysteria.
GSK is known for record setting fraudulent activity. In 2012, GSK agreed to pay a $3 billion settlement to the U.S. government, breaking Pfizer’s record for the largest health-care fraud settlement for a drugmaker in U.S. history.
Last year, Fauci spoke at a conference organized by GSK on the “role of vaccines in protecting people and the planet.”
So Fauci has now linked up with Big Pharma heavyweights and he’s an advisor for a clandestine bio lab project being financed by the Italian government. What could possibly go wrong?
with Fauci involved everything could go wrong or was it intended all along.

And by strategic advisor, they mean propagandist and expert at covering up lab activities.

Debunkers return to the ‘soft targets’
The biggest “defenders of science” did the most damage to it.
I know the pandemic is winding down when I see ‘science influencers,’ ‘debunkers’ and the ‘misinformation police’ return to focusing on issues that match their skill set: debunking vitamins, supplements, cupping, homeopathy, electric fields and other clearly unproven and implausible medical interventions…
People who are not the best scientists— who spend most of their time attacking soft-targets— and who pledge their allegiance to the political left— ironically did tremendous damage to science by creating a caustic environment where real debate could not occur. Worse, they encouraged delusional regulators (Peter Marks) into believing their decisions were correct, and others into thinking that the real enemy were scientists who disagreed. The grand irony then is that these people who see their life in service of a good— combating anti-science ideas— fueled anti-science in the time of crisis.

Walter Reed issues ‘cease and desist’ to Catholic Church before Holy Week
"The Catholic Archdiocese for Military Services accused Walter Reed National Military Medical Center of denying service members and veterans their constitutional right to practice their religion after it issued a “cease and desist order” to a community of Franciscan Catholic priests and brothers who have “provided pastoral care to service members and veterans at Walter Reed for nearly two decades.”
According to a news release, the Franciscans’ contract was terminated on March 31, 2023, and was awarded to a secular defense contracting firm “that cannot fulfill the statement of work in the contract.”
Giving religious pastoral care work to atheists and popping a C&D on the patients priests and ministers is a hot idea not even the USSR came up with.

Biden gets 75% of Wall Street's donations, the richest counties in the country surround DC, and this. Totes looking after the little guy from Scranton.
We'll address the FBI and CIA circling the wagons around Biden later. Fight the power!
Populism is never popular with the well off, as they tend to be the elitist pricks populists dislike.
And it isn't as though they couldn't change that perception, but one of our new secular religions is prestige, so that will never happen.
The mysterious thing is why the working class would pick a person so devoid of any working-class cred to be their champion.
So you're wondering why they've abandoned the Democratic Party? The same party that completely gave up their working-class cred around 2000.
Yeah, twenty years of derision, hatred and scorn for the plebs and then you wonder why they vote for the guy who doesn't do that.
It isnt mysterious. His employees loved him. He often worked w his blue collar employees. These stories were all over the news in 2015 before the general. Didn't you laugh about him liking McDonald's?
Not mysterious at all. He identified two or three legitimate issues – such as the effect of globalisation on traditional industrial jobs, the undue influence of money in Washington, one or two social issues that many white voters – the “us v them”/”zero-sum” types – were concerned about, like a good conman he made attractive promises, like the “better, cheaper healthcare plan”, and “winning” (not to mention “lock her up” – after all Hillary was viewed with considerable distaste by man) and he pissed off the people that his supporters disliked.
And all the bad stuff – from cheating on his taxes (which he’d basicallu admitted), the pussy-grabbing, the adultery, and so on – merely made him look more like a champ to these people, who wished they were rich enough and smart enough to get away with things like that.
That he routinely stiffed contractors, for example, didn’t get much traction – and FAIK may still be denied by his supporters, though one would think that small business people would not approve.
"from cheating on his taxes (which he’d basicallu admitted)"
Oh wow, does the IRS know about this? You should call them.
Of course, when they do investigate you lot would cry "witch hunt".
But perhaps you'd forgotten this: https://www.npr.org/2023/01/13/1148379013/the-trump-organization-has-been-ordered-to-pay-1-61-million-for-tax-fraud
You're so desperate.
The "fraud" charges were levied solely against one of Trump's many companies longtime Chief Financial Officer Allen Weisselberg, who was separately indicted for and convicted of tax fraud and sentenced to 5 months in jail.
Which must have shocked the shit out of him, because nobody's been charged for that before, but anyone who's ever worked for Orangemanbad is now a target now for Alvin Bragg, so lesson learned.
Yes, that's right, Allen Weisselberg was targeted and charged by that Alvin Bragg. The Soros-funded psychopath who's just charged Trump with 34 counts of fuck-all.
Trump himself and his family members were not charged as part of the case, because, unlike your slimy inference, Trump wasn't involved. At all.
Though your Soros-funded prosecutor Bragg did try to link Trump to fraud at trial, claiming he had “explicitly sanction[ed] tax fraud” by signing off on the executive’s contract.
And you know what that "fraud" was, British-lawyer-Shrike? The company paid rent for a Manhattan apartment and lease payments for his car, and he was supposed to pay the tax but he thought that the company did.
This was one of the most disgusting, dishonest prosecutions until Bragg's newest debacle, and the judge should be disbarred and Bragg should go to jail.
Also, thanks for showing us all what you really are, by posting that.
BTW. The above is the express definition of a witch hunt. So thanks for proving Super Scary's point.
Like Georgian Shrike you don't seem to read your own links either.
A conservative commenter here was saying the other day that red states should go after Democratic former presidents the way Bragg is going after Trump.
What that commenter missed is his ties to the blue state of New York that are not paralleled by any Democratic former president having ties to a red state. There’s Jimmy Carter, but he’s squeaky clean.
Trump is a second-generation New Yorker. His family business is registered there. He hung out in the same New York social circles as Hillary Clinton. He was a New York City Democrat. And the most intesting thing about all his deep links to New York, instead of being adored as a native son, New Yorkers dislike Trump.
(Disclaimer: I know this comment will be misconstrued as support for Bragg's case. It is not. I think the case is weak and politically motivated, just like pretty much everyone else here.)
"instead of being adored as a native son, New Yorkers dislike Trump."
He was liked well enough and occasionally feted by New Yorkers until he went heretic and committed blasphemy against the party.
You have a tendency to tell tales a toddler could see through, Mike.

It is so transparently obvious that it's a lie, and it would be fun to make fun of it, but I would be hesitant to lead anymore credence to the idea that SRG is British.
Fuckwit, I've lived in the US for 25 years, so I've picked up enough American expressions. I note though that none of you lot have ever disproved my assertion - and further I actually posted links to pics of my UK and US passports.
So are you a cunt (American usage) or merely a cunt (British usage)?
Mingy?
You mean like FDR?
Sigh. Remember when elites were country club Republicans?
Remember when "elite" was not a term of abuse?
No. Not in the context of social "betters".
Remember when leftists started thinking they were elite because they read Soros talking points and started socking on websites with said talking points?
FWIW I suspect the pejorative usage came from populist right-wing talking heads. It's the kind of propaganda usage that would be a natural fit.
Elite has been a term of abuse since the French Revolution…
Fine, as they have proven to be elite only in their own minds. "Nomenklatura" probably gets closer to what they are.

Researchers believe they discovered the cause of "long covid."
German, Austrian, Polish and Indian researchers in the Frontiers study found "mask-induced exhaustion-syndrome" and "down-stream physio-metabolic disfunctions [sic]" resulting from wearing surgical and N95 masks, which can have "long-term clinical consequences," especially for children, pregnant women, elderly and ill people.
https://justthenews.com/politics-policy/coronavirus/international-research-suggests-masks-better-causing-long-covid
So not only do masks not help transmission, but may actually cause harm. Now who has been saying that for years? Conspiracy theorists that looked at actual data instead of new age modeling.
Masknerd on twitter is still completely engulfed with this.
How about just societal-reinforced paranoia?
There's a reason why, in the environmental and asbestos fields, we limit the amount of time that respirators are worn, and that break times whereby one can remove said respirator are scheduled three times during an eight hour shift. There's also a reason why we test everyone wearing a respirator to ensure that he/she will be able to wear one for a couple of hours without much issue.
During the pandemic, we asked that people who were never medically cleared nor properly fit tested wear facial coverings that were never tested nor approved by any group or agency (such as NIOSH) anywhere. What could possibly go wrong?
As I said from Day One of the COVID panic, fresh air and sunshine and exercise are the best antidotes to illness. Masks and social isolation are worse for all 3.
Not to mention that most people gained 20 pounds while working from home, a fact that decreased life expectancy by a significant amount.

As you've never posted condemnation of prison rape before, and we know it's widespread, should we assume that it's only unacceptable to you when done by fake "transitioners"?
"As you’ve never posted condemnation of prison rape before"
What the hell. Jesse's posted several times about how essentially sentencing men to rape is wrong and gross.
But if you just recently turned up here and aren't Shrike, as you claim, how would you even know if Jesse has or not?
I've never seen him posting anything in the time that I've been here. And by now you know perfectly well I'm not shrike.
Your argument seems to be unclear. Surely my not knowing that JesseAZ does not condone male rape - assuming your claim is true - suggests that my appearance here is relatively recent.
And why are you answering for him, anyway? Sock on the other foot?
Are you implying that Jesse is cool with prison rape in general? Do you deny that women confined to a prison with a bunch of swinging dicks around might be more likely to be raped? What the fuck are you talking about? Asshole.
No. I am suggesting that it does not vex him in the way that this does. If Mother's Lament is right, that in the past JesseAZ has condemned it, then fine, I will have been mistaken. But given that both of them have persisted in lying about who I am since I started posting here, I have no reason to believe ML absent proof, nor do I particularly feel the need to apologise for suggesting that JesseAZ is a hypocrite in this one case when he's shown himself to be dishonest in so many other instances.

We Have Put Individualism Ahead of the Common Good for Too Long BY RICHARD WEISSBOURD AND CHRIS MURPHY APRIL 11, 2023 7:15 AM EDT
https://time.com/6269091/individualism-ahead-of-the-common-good-for-too-long/
Basically, these two assholes blame all of our problems, from the economic mess to crumbling cities to Culture War on Individualism and they want all of us owned by the Collective in the name of “The Common Good Over The Individual Good.”
(When this nation has had too much Individualism, I’ll never know. The Founders basically had the right idea, but were terrible in the execution of it regarding slavery. The Civil War corrected that, but made Federal slaves of everyone. In between then and now, we’ve had a Progressive Era, Jim Crow, Prohibition, the Panic of 1873, a Great Depression, a New Deal, Fair Deal, Square Deal, a New Frontier, a Great Society, countless foreign wars declared and undeclared, domestic Wars on Alcohol, Poverty, Drugs, Terror, Port, and Lawn Darts and all of it has diminished the Individual’s rights, responsibility and dignity.)
Anywho, these bastards not only want industrial policy, but evidently Government-owned or subsidized religion, social clubs, and even newspapers! They even suggest making Doctors into inquisitors and snitches on our innermost thoughts!
Fuck Off, Worker Drones! I can do without your sickening-sweet Honeycomb! I’ll stick with my wild-oat Cheerios and Ovaltine!
To the authoritarian, the individual is the enemy. Why is there evil if God is good? Human sin, defined as individuals not obeying God. Its always "Mr businessman, you didn't build that business, the state did", but never "that deathcamp, no Mr Hitler, you didn't build that - government did".
Government never fails; individuals fail the government.
Well, according to Führerprinzip, Herr Hitler was the government, though to some Nazi purists, the Führer was just the way to fulfill the racial destiny of Eine Volk and Ein Reich, so even he was ultimately a nothing.
"Government can—and must—meet these critical challenges."

https://www.spiked-online.com/2023/04/14/the-making-of-dylan-mulvaney/
Two ostensibly very different men attracted a lot of attention this week. Two American personae, or masks. Two cracked mirrors, reflecting our 21st-century schizoid age. The mirrors in question are the painfully thin TikTok influencer Dylan Mulvaney – thin as only gruel can be thin – and the would-be firebrand Justin J Pearson, member of the Tennessee House of Representatives.
Mulvaney (and if you have managed to avoid him heretofore, do consider logging off now before the barbs of scandalised delight pierce the skin) is the current poster person for the hotly contested lavatory stall of trans rights. He first minced into the public consciousness as little as a year ago with a series of home movies updating us on his transition to life ‘as a girl’. His mask is a sort of travesty on this. He channels an idealised 1950s Doris Day innocence.
And in fiery fakery.
Justin Pearson, by comparison, is a model of decorum and self-restraint. He is a young, black lawmaker, a member of the of the Tennessee House of Representatives. He was expelled last week and swiftly reinstated this week for joining an anti-gun protest outside this chamber, in a manner that some older, more conservative members felt was unseemly.
Pearson has developed a rhetorical style that seems to be almost comically informed by the archetypal Southern preachers of the civil-rights era. He comes across like a character in a Spike Lee movie, channelling the ‘dare you to notice’ energy of a Don King as much as the deadly seriousness of the likes of MLK and Malcolm X.
In one video, an immaculately attired and beautifully spoken Pearson is seen a mere seven years ago, appearing smooth, plausible and reassuringly centrist in a campaign video. This persona is strikingly at odds with the one he has adopted at the Tennessee House of Representatives. He made Barack Obama look ham.
In the other video, Mulvaney is explicit in his acknowledgement that he is trying out a new ‘femme’ persona in order to attract more attention and acting work. This was unearthed – to my eyes at least – in a wonderfully ferocious denunciation of Mulvaney’s malarkey by Jean Hatchet in the Critic.
What I find fascinating is how little impact these revelations will have on those who are invested. Sceptics will assume this is an end to the matter, a slam-dunk. But they underestimate our capacity to wilfully overlook the naked artifice of a shtick that fits our Weltanschauung, so to speak.
It’s as if our culture is developing anterograde amnesia – the inability to form new memories. This rare condition, explored brilliantly in Christopher Nolan’s first full-budget movie, Memento, appears to be the only mode in which we can survive in the modern world with our beliefs and loyalties intact. This seems to be how we have decided to resolve the unbearable tension between the two iron laws. If the internet insists on remembering forever, we will just have to downgrade our own memory spans accordingly.
the current poster person for the hotly contested lavatory stall of trans rights
I can't remember the last time a Reason writer wrote this well.
Tim Cavanaugh is missed.
This is the best part of the whole story, the one that boils it down to fundamental, misogynist ingredient:
In perhaps the most notorious of his follow-ups, he visits the countryside, in heels, and is menaced by a bug of some kind. It is as broad and grotesque a parody of archaic feminine instability as has been seen since Dick Emery’s prime.
I have tried many times to write a long (god help me) but hopefully non-article length post about this, and I always scrap it and move on. There are so many layers to the creepiness of the trans movement, but one of the most insipid (see, right there, I'm not even sure if that's really the right word here) of these layers is the play-acting-as-woman which essentializes the 'feminine' behavior to a set of stereotypes in what would, in any other context be a set of laughable tropes.
That's something I've noticed in videos of Mulvaney that I've seen on Twitter. It's like some bad parody of a prissy 15-18 year old girl.
It’s minstrel shows of yore, with all the ridiculous stereotypes and over the top tropes, they’re just wearing woman-face instead of doing it the Trudeau way.
And yet this dude is always described as a transgender influencer. There is no evidence that this guy is physically transitioning. There is no evidence that he actually wants people to believe that he's a woman. He's a creepy carnival act mocking a non existent stereotype of a silly teenage girl.
The libertines here are going to be butthurt.

A new report ranks all 50 states from best to worst for economic conditions, showing which states have improved, and worsened, in creating an economic climate where businesses want to invest.
For the most part, Republican-led states filled the better parts of the rankings while Democrat-led states fell to the bottom. The top ten states are almost entirely Republican-led, and the bottom ten states are all Democrat-led.
That makes for an interesting experiment. If ALEC's criteria are what matter when it comes to economic strength, then this should show up in actual economic data such as Gross State Product per capita, unemployment rate, etc. Allowing for such state-specific issues as the presence or absence of natural resources (though that may not make a huge difference, cf Japan, Singapore, etc) it should nonetheless be straightforward to find out whether ALEC's metrics do indeed lead to better economies. I can't be arsed to do the calculations myself - too much like my actual work - but surely someone here can.
So you have actual work? You seem like a talking points cut and paste guy. As we used to say, I could train a monkey to do your job. Seems I've misjudged you.
First, you will not find anything I write that is cut and pasted, though I note this standard piece of stupidity from so many right-wing posters here, that anyone who disagrees with them must be getting briefs and talking points from Soros, or the DNC or possibly the Bavarian Illuminati. Nor will you find any seppo who writes with my inimitable style for me to copy from.
Second, I do indeed work, mostly in fintech with a sideline or two.
Yeah, but all the rich white people live in the blue states... so...
The effect of Janus.
https://www.illinoispolicy.org/nearly-1-in-5-leave-illinois-government-union-since-getting-a-choice/
More than 12,000 state and local government workers across Illinois have chosen not to join or pay fees to the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Council 31 since the U.S. Supreme Court restored their ability to choose in 2018 in Janus v. AFSCME.
That 18.5% drop is a strong indication AFSCME’s leadership is out of touch with what its members want.
And it’s not just Illinois. AFSCME’s national affiliate has seen nearly 172,000 workers choose not to affiliate with the union since 2017. That represents a drop of 12% nationwide.
One of the most common reasons members leave their unions: they don’t feel well represented. Union leaders’ political agendas and the labor strife created by strikes get in the way of what unions are supposed to be doing.
In 2022, less than 21% of AFSCME Council 31’s spending was on representing workers, according to its report with the U.S. Department of Labor. The rest was on politics, administration and other union leadership priorities.
Finally good news.
Not really. Illinois passed a constitutional amendment that literally puts the unions in charge of state government. And if you look at the new mayor of Chicago, Janus might as well not exist in Illinois.
Unions got institutionally decadent - and this serves them right.
Being lampooned by the patriarchy.
https://nypost.com/2023/04/13/women-deserve-more-than-to-be-lampooned-by-bud-light-and-nike/
Who is Dylan Mulvaney and why does there seem to be no other model up for the job of marketing products from leggings to bad beer?
Mulvaney kicks off the first video of the series saying, “I’ve already cried three times. I wrote a scathing email that I didn’t send. I ordered dresses online that I couldn’t afford. And when someone asked me how I was I said ‘I’m fine!’ when I wasn’t fine.”
In another video, Dylan shows off a pair of pleather shorts and expresses surprise that people stared “directly at my crotch. Oh, I forgot that my crotch doesn’t look like other women’s crotches sometimes because mine doesn’t look like a little Barbie pocket.”
For this caricature of womanhood, Mulvaney has been rewarded with endorsement deals from brand after brand: Kate Spade, Ulta Beauty, CeraVe, Instacart and recently Nike and Bud Light.
In the era of “Representation matters” we’re supposed to just accept that women are being erased from society and replaced with someone who claims to be us but also full-on ridicules us.
We’re called transphobes if we think that obviously biological men shouldn’t be competing in women’s sports and, yes, women should have the right to not encounter penises, no matter the self-identifying gender of the person with that penis, in their locker rooms.
And we’re not supposed to notice transgenderism has become an ideology that’s being aimed at children.
Mulvaney is an activist for this cause who famously sat down with President Joe Biden to complain about states cracking down on automatic affirmation and transition for questioning children.
When Mulvaney asked him his thoughts on this kind of “gender-affirming care” for kids, Biden answered that no one should have the right to ban access to hormones and surgery “as a moral or legal question.”

https://www.zerohedge.com/political/dnc-parts-ways-marc-elias-clinton-campaign-lawyer-behind-steele-dossier
The Democratic National Committee (DNC) is ending its longtime partnership with lawyer and election strategist Marc Elias, who paid for the notorious dossier falsely accusing the Donald Trump presidential campaign of colluding with Russia.
The divorce between the national organization of Democrats and its top lawyer over “a number of strategic disagreements” was first reported by Punchbowl News, citing anonymous sources familiar with the matter. This appears to only affect the DNC, considering that Elias still represents a slew of federal- and state-level Democratic campaign arms, such as the DSCC, DAGA, and DLCC.
Elias is best known as the man behind the Steele dossier. Serving as general counsel for the Hilary Clinton campaign during the 2016 presidential election, Elias hired opposition research firm Fusion GPS to commission a dossier on Republican candidate Donald Trump’s alleged collusion with Russian government operatives. Fusion GPS entrusted the task to retired British spy Christopher Steele, who eventually fed the dossier to the FBI in 2017.
The dossier and its core allegations now have either been debunked or deemed unverifiable, but were key to the FBI’s investigation of Trump, as well as the mainstream media’s narrative about Moscow meddling with the 2016 election. The role Democrats played in the dossier wasn’t exposed until much later in 2017, amid a House Republican-led probe into the document’s origin.
Elias was also involved in some controversies in more recent election cycles. On last year’s Election Day, he joined the John Fetterman campaign’s lawsuit in a last-minute attempt to overturn a Pennsylvania election law rejecting undated or misdated mail-in ballots.
In 2021, he tried to convince Democrat majorities in Congress to invalidate Republican Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks’ victory in Iowa, claiming to have found extra ballots for his client, Democrat Rita Hart. Congress eventually certified the election results in favor of Miller-Meeks.
I don't know who or what Punchbowl news is... I do know what ZeroHedge is, but I find this story interesting for a completely tangential reason:
Things are going on inside the Democratic party that are interesting and worth reporting, yet my local rag daily reports endlessly about Trump, the GOP, the splits and intrigues going on in the Republican party, conservative voters, controversies in Florida, Ron DeSantis, and so on and so on.
As I have said repeatedly, even if every word of every article is 100% true, the idea that absolutely nothing of interest (GOOD OR BAD!) is taking place in (D) world is hilarious.
If you used a lot of mainstream media as your barometer, you would think that the Republicans are full of turmoil, strife, controversies-- the frothiest space in politics. Whereas on the Democratic side, it's a staid, quiet, business-as-usual situation, rock-steady, smooth sailing with no storms on the horizon.
Yeah, I'm careful what I choose from there, but this was an eyebrow raiser worthy of discussion when considering who Marc Elias is to the Democratic Party as of recent.
Turning into a ghost town.
https://www.zerohedge.com/economics/salesforce-ditches-last-san-francisco-office-commercial-vacancy-rate-hits-all-time-high
A sobering report from Coldwell Banker (available to pro subs in the usual place) reveals that San Francisco's office vacancy rate hit a record high of 29.4%, as net absorption (total new square footage leased minus the total square footage of vacated space) registered -1.56 million sq. ft.
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, San Francisco had a near 100% occupation rate throughout the city due to the latest tech boom, as the vacancy rate in 2019 grew from 5.4% in the fourth quarter of 2019 to 24.1% at the end of 2022.

https://summit.news/2023/04/13/poll-almost-two-thirds-of-democrats-want-to-see-challengers-run-against-biden/
A new Rasmussen poll has revealed that among Democratic voters, almost two thirds would like to see challengers run against Joe Biden, with less than 40 percent believing Biden should seek a second term.
The survey reveals that only 39 percent of voters believe Biden should run for reelection as president in 2024, while 48 percent are of the opinion that Biden shouldn’t run again.
The poll also notes that sixty-two percent of Democratic voters believe that if Biden does run for reelection next year, other Democrats should challenge him in the primaries.
Only 21 percent said they don’t want to see Democratic challengers to Biden.
The survey also found that Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has announced he will be launching a 2024 campaign, is supported by forty-six percent of voters, with 18 percent saying they strongly support him.
More than half (52 percent) of Democratic voters said they would back RFK Jr.’s challenge, but he garnered even more support from conservatives:
Cool, another Kennedy. Previous ones have crashed boats, cars, and planes. What will RFK Jr. crash?
The remainder of the economy?
Already happened but I gotta say RFK Jr. is the only democrat I would vote for.
But they were picking him based on his name, before they realized he was a right wing anti-vax nut.

Police are looking to locate a group of suspects who are responsible for breaking into a tractor-trailer and stealing $200,000 worth of dimes in Northeast Philadelphia.
The discovery was made when police responded to a call around 6 a.m. Thursday about 10 or more males stealing from a trailer.
$200,000 worth of dimes
I’m not mistaken in thinking that we’re talking about ~5 *tons* of dimes, right?
This sounds like an Office Space-style parody of a heist film. They get back to the hideout and split up the money only to realize they’re each stuck with $20K worth of dimes. Everybody gets picked up 2 weeks later when there’s a run on 10 separate Coinstar machines. $195K is recovered because the machines only dole out something like $500 at a time.

In general, I'd trust a recent high school graduate in this more than I'd trust an officer brainwashed by a typical American university (not that the American military would have officers doing this work, anyhow), or a senior NCO grown cynical from many years in government service. Why the hell was a 21 year old guard member given access to these documents in the first place?
Presumes documents are legitimate, which White House won’t confirm, but did confirm that whatever was on the documents — and they’re not saying anything explosive was on them, or even they were government documents– that the documents should not be out in public, regardless of whether or not they’re real or not.
Personal note: So if these are in fact a random set of documents with collections of words and syllables on them that don’t pertain in any way to operational secrets of the US/Ukraine relationship vis-a-vis the war, one has to wonder what a set of non-government, non-secret-containing documents could possibly have on them that would classify them as “too hot to handle” in the public sphere leading to the arrest of the person who posted them online. Pictures of child porn, maybe? I dunno, no one is saying.
Pennypacker's ruling cuts against an increasing consensus that mask mandates had neither legal nor scientific merit. The Supreme Court in 2021 struck down California Gov. Gavin Newsom's (D.) ban on indoor worship services, which lasted longer than the state's forced closure of strip clubs. A February study that found masks did almost nothing to stop the spread of respiratory viruses, such as COVID-19, has been called "the scientific nail in the coffin for mask mandates." So a one million dollar fine for violating an unconstitutional ban because of worthless public health methods. Got it!
There was a consensus among the experts who had not been banned. New facts came to light. The consensus changed. Or maybe not. In any case, they violated the consensus that was in place at the time.
When "experts" on the government payroll come to a consensus, is it based on evidence and logic or on what those who hired them want?
"who somehow obtained the classified documents and posted them to the group. From there, they eventually spilled into the open, potentially compromising U.S. intelligence gathering and damaging relations with allies." Maybe I'm missing something here, but I don't see the downside ... is Teixeira up for a promotion for compromising the deep state and damaging our "entangling alliances?" He probably should be, I think ...
He's obviously already been convicted by the government and the media. Best thing for him to do is put on a wig and some lipstick to get his sentence commuted.
Looks like somebody's plans for an al out invasion of Russia was spoiled. At this point everyone should have suspected there were American troops on the ground in Ukraine to defend the Biden's grift.
This administration has been a full fledged disaster for America and the rest of the world. It is filled with gender confused mentally ill idiots, leftist morons and outright fools. Joe Biden is the worst thing that ever happened to America, even worse than Lincoln and FDR.
You deserve whatever happens. High gas prices, food shortages, crooked elections, corruption, corruption, corruption, riots, war, war, war, and the lump of a waste of oxygen had the nerve to hand over $150 billion of American's taxpayer's dollars to that little coke sniffling clown. The corruption and outright theft and kickbacks to the demoncrat party should get every democrat in congress indicted for corruption.
FJB and F you for voting for him.
Triggered?
Lol funny how all the cuck MAGAs come out and defend people like this and say "whistleblower for the -real- situation in Ukraine" and defend doctored documents. lmfao.
It is funny how the right-wing commenters here immediately staked out a position in this story, and it all seems to be based on knowing nothing more about the breaking story than that the New York Times described him and his friends as gun enthusiasts.
It’s OK, I understand the New York Times’ effect on them.
Here's Glenn Greenwald's [hopelessly biased] take on the Media's take on the documents and their existence.
Documents which, according to the White House, probably aren't even real anyway, but hey, let's arrest the leaker sort of... nowish.
Seriously, they did it to a former President and now they're doing it to some no-name 21-yr.-old reservist airman. Who was convicted or even dismissed as the result of Snowden's leak? Who was convicted or even dismissed as the result of COVID-19 funding?
Seems an awful lot like either they're going to get tired of being in control or they're going to be retired, with bullets, lots of bullets.
Or would you rather the hopelessly biased take by NPR or CNN?
So maybe, sensitive state security secrets shouldn't be accessible to low ranking members of some state's National Guard? That seems like the bigger breakdown.
The sad fact is that Washington should have never gotten involved in Ukraine in the first place. However, because Washington is addicted to interventionist policies and can't stop and the Obama regime with its little helpers, Victoria Nudelman, Samantha Power and Hillary, all helped to spur along the Maiden which removed a leader who was on friendly terms with Putin.
That was intolerable to the Azov neo-nazis and Washington. worse yet, the neo-Nazis decided to shell the Donbass region which was home to tens of thousands of ethnic Russians. In all, more than 12,000 ethnic Russians were murdered by the Ukranian neo-Nazis. This is one fact no one can distort or ignore. More than 12,000 ethnic Russians were murdered.
Here's another little fact for all you who support this dirty little war: Ukraine is NOT NOW nor has it EVER BEEN a democracy. For most of its existence it has been a satrap for countries such as Germany then for the Soviet Union. There is no such thing as a pure Ukranian.Ukraine became a state after the fall of the Soviet state and the release of all eastern bloc Soviet satellites.
Zelensky is a corrupt, self centered, narcissist and possible psychopath. He is a drug addict, a crooked politician if ever there was one. A liar and self serving little twit who deserves to be brought before a world court.
The latest revelation by Sy Hersch proves Zelensky is no more than a drug addicted con artist, grifter and willing to play both sides.
The vast majority of the American people are tired of this and do not support the Obiden regime's war. A war that is nothing more than another grift for Biden and the democrats.
This is not speculation or made up. There is more than enough evidence of this through the expose of FTX and the kick backs from Zelensky to FTX and then to the democrats.
The democrats have now mired themselves in a mud slough of corruption, kickbacks and lie upon lie.
So the leaker has been positively identified - by the same organization that falsely accused Richard Jewell and Steven Hatfill, massacred children in Waco, declared that ignorance of the law _is_ an excuse for Hillary Clinton, and became a conduit for the Steele dossier disinformation. Perhaps we should wait until the actual evidence has been presented in court.
Some guys and one woman in a rented yacht.
But have they switched from cosmos and hyper-craft pilsners to Bud Light?
*In haughty, matriarchal voice*: Well, because that's what simply EVERYONE is talking about!
