Researchers Pressured Twitter To Treat COVID-19 Facts as 'Misinformation'
The latest Twitter Files shows a partnership between Stanford University researchers and government-funded organizations encouraged social media companies to police true information.

Researchers at Stanford University—in partnership with several nonprofits that have received government funding—worked with social media platforms to flag and suppress commentary on COVID vaccines, science, and policy that contradicted public health officials' stances, even when that commentary was true.
This new information comes from yet another Twitter Files entry of screenshotted emails and reports from independent journalist Matt Taibbi that reveals the back and forth between the Stanford-led Virality Project and receptive Twitter executives about policing alleged COVID misinformation on its platform.
Beginning in February 2021, and continuing with regular reports, Virality Project researchers encouraged Twitter to expand its misinformation policies to include true reports of vaccine side effects, criticism of vaccine passport systems for their imposition on rights and freedoms, and even discussion of legitimate scientific research on breakthrough infections on natural immunity.
Researchers with the project explicitly flagged "true content which might promote vaccine hesitancy," including other countries banning certain vaccines because of their health side effects. While individual true stories about negative vaccine side effects were not treated as misinformation or disinformation, they could be labeled "malinformation" if they exaggerated or misled people, said researchers.
14.VP told Twitter that "true stories that could fuel hesitancy," including things like "celebrity deaths after vaccine" or the closure of a central NY school due to reports of post-vaccine illness, should be considered "Standard Vaccine Misinformation on Your Platform." pic.twitter.com/nOyuw2r5cH
— Matt Taibbi (@mtaibbi) March 17, 2023
Stanford researchers, and later Twitter staff themselves, also flagged campaigns against vaccine passports as a worrisome bridge forming between the anti-vaccine community and the wider "right-wing media sphere."
15. In one email to Twitter, VP addressed what it called the "vaccine passport narrative," saying "concerns" over such programs "have driven a larger anti-vaccination narrative about the loss of rights and freedoms."
This was framed as a "misinformation" event. pic.twitter.com/ZdbKE1tFac— Matt Taibbi (@mtaibbi) March 17, 2023
In April 2022, the Virality Project issued a report calling for the creation of a new government agency housed within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that focused on misinformation and disinformation.
DHS briefly tried to create that board but then backed down after an intense public backlash to its authoritarian potential.
Virality Project researchers took exception to politicians like Sen. Rand Paul (R–Ky.) and Rep. Thomas Massie (R–Ky.) relying on research published by the Cleveland Clinic showing no benefits of vaccination to already infected individuals to make the case for protective natural immunity.
The stated concern was that legitimate scientific research was being used to "sow mistrust in American public health institutions."
35.A Cleveland Clinic study showed previous infection offered the "same immunity" as the vaccine, but VP said discovery was susbservient to narrative: "Whether or not… scientific consensus is changing, 'natural immunity' is a key narrative… among anti-vaccine activists." pic.twitter.com/wmdiynJG4y
— Matt Taibbi (@mtaibbi) March 17, 2023
Some of the Virality Project's partner organizations received funding from the Department of Defense and the National Science Foundation. The project also said it had developed "strong ties" with federal government agencies.
There's been a lot of reporting already (including from Reason) on the efforts by government agencies to pressure social media companies to police COVID speech they deemed false or misleading.
The latest Twitter Files shows that the definition of what's considered damaging misinformation is being stretched to include true things that might cause the public to react in ways that don't meet the approval of public health officials.

Well, we all knew it was true, but nobody had the receipts. The rot runs very deep.
The receipts were there, but not all of them. The sheer scale of the deceit and censorship was underestimated even by the harshest critics.
IMO, the effectiveness is *still* underestimated.
Mr. Anderson: You can’t scare me with this Gestapo crap. I know my rights. I’ve got receipts. I want my free speech.

Yes, these all are true.
It really makes no difference to me if it was Stanford scientists, twitter millenials, or CDC personnel who tried to silence others. That's wrong if your mailman or the President does it.
We need legislative ban on Stanford Research obtaining any federal funds. Go through the list of all orgs that did this. Take away ALL FEDERAL FUNDING for 10 years as a punishment. Take away all Stanford federal funding of any kind for that matter.
Once the word gets out that it affect your income they will place internal methods to assure it never happens again.
Execution for crimes against humanity for everyone involved.
Remember every single thing they tried to impose upon us.
No amnesty.
Most of those begging for amnesty and forgiveness are not actually sorry. Fuck them.
Fuck them anyway, even if they are sorry. Stupid, easily-led sheep. Watch how quickly the amnesty assholes pivot to "You're so mean for not welcoming my kind overtures" and then to "Old News."
Cannot imagine why public health officials lost respect in the eyes of some.
So basic epidemiology is now considered a "narrative".. interesting.
Further, that "narrative" is determined by the government and its agents are more than happy to strong-arm media to censor the news promoting it.
Where is the pressure in this story where the Twitter executives are described as “receptive”?
I’m all for passing a law that says that Federal employees and contractors cannot engage in social media moderation in any way. However, part of liberty is that a private company can decide to voluntarily coordinate with government or rely on government information sources if it wants to.
I guess giving in to extortion is a choice people should be allowed to make.
Hey now! Mike is now in ‘nothing to see here’ mode, so clearly nothing untoward hapoemed.
That steaming pile of lefty shit assumes that a 'request' that you pay your taxes can be declined without penalty.
"Abysmal stupidity" sorta gets close.
Now be fair, he could just be evil.
Too dumb for that
No, he's definitely stupid, but he still knows right from wrong, and is doubling down on wrong.
Extortion is already illegal.
Your problem is you have no evidence of any "extortion".
Read the Twitter Files. All of the proof of government extortion is right over there. Either you are lying or you hold such disregard for the truth by being willfully ignorant of the facts.
I think it's worth knowing even if this is just a private actor making depraved and disgusting decisions and lying about it. Just because they have a right to make bad decisions doesn't mean they don't deserve to keep them secret. It still remains a matter of public interest.
Sure, it is worth knowing about and a matter of public interest.
How was it secret? You cannot secretly suspend an account or secretly take down a tweet without it being noticed. And it was at the time each such act happened.
"How was it secret? "
Ya, I mean, it only depended on a based billionaire who dislikes status-quo elites buying a company (read: crime scene), and unveiling all the secrets, through journalists that have now been ostracized from the MSM.
So ya, totes transparent and out in the open
Before Elon it was a conspiracy, after Elon it's old news. And it alternates as needed, because the narrative will not be denied.
What was a conspiracy? We knew that Twitter consulted with government agencies.
Did "we", Episiarch/Bo Cara Esq.? Because you denied it and called anyone who said it a radical Trumpista alt-right conspiracy theorist for 3 years.
"...We knew that Twitter consulted with government agencies..."
Can you say "spin"?
Or perhaps "steaming pile of lying lefty shit"?
No, we did not. That came out with Twitter Files. This was NOT known before then.
For example, when their fact checkers were looking for “facts” about COVID-19 they would consult with the CDC. There was no secret about that.
That has nothing to do with the CDC and other government agencies telling companies to censor dissenters.
Elon Musk “revealed” a bunch of emails and texts telling us stuff we already knew.
You mean stuff we knew, you said it was all a right wing conspiracy.
When I read your posts the world seems to shift and my vision is momentarily blurred as my eyes try to keep up. Do you honestly believe "we" already knew that the feds were directing social media who to silence? That "they" were silencing even information known by them to be factually correct, because they didn't like how that info would influence others?
Even if YOU believe these things, do you think WE will just take your claims and shrug our shoulders and meekly accept it?
OLD NEWS! PHAKE SKANDUL!!!!!! TRUMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
cite?
This is the plan going forward, its clear.
A 1984 style retcon. "What are you crazy, everyone always knew this, old news."
Anyone making the aforementioned claims was called a crank, conspiracy theorist (I believe Chemjeff referred to them as wannabe Dr. Rogan's and your crazy Uncle Fester...almost daily at one point) and was written off until the pile of evidence got so overwhelming you folks had to change the story to "this is old news now, and no one was saying that".
Gaslighting is bad for you Mike. Pretty soon you wont be sure what reality you live in. The one we have all been telling you exists, or the one you keep making up to protect your lefty boos.
Someone may have said that people saying the government and Twitter were cooperating with each other on moderating “misinformation” was a conspiracy theory, but *I* never said it was a conspiracy theory.
I’m being consistent.
I’m going to turn this around. Please provide a cite of someone calling it a conspiracy theory — otherwise, I say you are the one retconning and gaslighting.
https://reason.com/2022/12/02/twitter-files-elon-musk-matt-taibbi-hunter-biden-laptop-censorship/?comments=true#comment-9818492
That is Mike flatly denying that there was "government coercion". Denying it. He was saying that there is no evidence of what Right Wingers for years were insisting.
Now Mike will demure that he didn't use the word "conspiracy", but who is he kidding? He is insisting (incorrectly) that claims of collusion and coercion were without evidence. That is no different than calling those claims a conspiracy theory.
Mike is lying to us, and trying to deflect. It is a fact that this was a terrible episode in American history when some of the largest players in media and communication were colluding to censor their political opposition. We as libertarians can acknowledge the finer details of who had liberty to do what, but Mike doesn't want to even acknowledge the dishonest and unethical practices on display at Twitter. Can you imagine Mike doing this on the run up to the Spanish American war- arguing that there was nothing wrong with the yellow journalism surrounding the sinking of the USS Maine? Or the run up to WWI and the Lusitania? Or the Gulf of Tonkin?
You see, Mike isn't just gas-lighting about his views back in the day, he is trying to steal a base by insisting that if a libertarian wouldn't make this stuff explicitly illegal, then we shouldn't criticize it. He knows that is a shaky argument, which is why he wants to send everyone off in search of random evidence that is not important to this conversation.
On a related note: why is Hunter suing a Russian disinformation op for violating his privacy when it was never his to begin with?
https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/hunter-biden-sues-computer-repairman-invasion-privacy-handling-of-laptop/
I see you still haven't figured out what Taibbi was referring to in his tweet, below:
“22. Although several sources recalled hearing about a “general” warning from federal law enforcement that summer about possible foreign hacks, there’s no evidence – that I’ve seen – of any government involvement in the laptop story. In fact, that might have been the problem...”
You read it as if it had said, "...there’s no evidence – that I’ve seen – of any [foreign] government involvement in the laptop story."
But when he mentioned the "government" he was obviously referring to the government which had issued the "general" warning "from federal law enforcement" that summer. That is the "government" which Taibbi said was not (to his knowledge) involved in [suppressing] the laptop story.
What do you think Taibbi's last sentence means? Why would the lack of [foreign] government involvement in [suppressing] the laptop story have been "the problem"? It only makes sense if the government he's referring to is the US government which was not (to his knowledge) involved in [suppressing] the laptop story.
In fact, Taibbi's next several tweets go on to describe how Twitter itself decided to suppress the laptop story: Gadde "freelanced it" ("it" being the decision to suppress the laptop story), he quotes "one former employee". Nowhere in Taibbi's discussion of the process by which the decision was made was there any reference to any government's involvement in that decision. Because there wasn't any he was aware of--which is exactly what he said in tweet 22.
You are absolutely wrong. The whole point of that entire twitter thread was that political and government operatives were regularly reaching out to Twitter and pressuring them to change things.
"Why would the lack of [foreign] government involvement in [suppressing] the laptop story have been “the problem”?"
You are adding the wrong words here. Taibbi is saying that there was no evidence of a [foreign] government being BEHIND (not suppressing) the laptop story.
Like Mike, you are wishfully reading Taibbi's thread to try and find what you want, and it is making you look a bit foolish.
More than a bit foolish. But he’s like a Jeff clone, so you won’t get any meaningful debate from him, just a bunch of obfuscation, willful ignorance and giving the government the benefit of the doubt while calling anyone who disagrees with him a “right winger” or whatever other slur he can conjure up.
"Please provide a cite of someone calling it a conspiracy theory "
Mandavilli, NYT reporter on COVID:
"a theory can have racist roots and still gather reasonable supporters along the way. Doesn’t make the roots any less racist or the theory any more convincing, though"
"Someday we will stop talking about the lab leak theory and maybe even admit its racist roots. But alas, that day is not today"
Joey Scarbs on MSNBC:
"Trump's making things worse in pushing the "conspiracy theory" Covid originated in a Chinese lab"

Elon Musk shows shadow-banning of conservatives no conspiracy theory
https://thehill.com/opinion/civil-rights/3770581-elon-musk-shows-shadow-banning-of-conservatives-no-conspiracy-theory/
“According to Weiss, several prominent conservatives – including podcast star and Fox News host Dan Bongino, Turning Point USA’s Charlie Kirk, the Libs of Tik Tok and Dr. Jay Bhattacharya of Stanford University, who was an opponent of COVID-19 lockdowns – saw the visibility of their tweets greatly reduced. When they complained about it, they were called conspiracy theorists by some journalists and some Democratic lawmakers. “
“Republicans have this warped perception that Google and Facebook and others are shadow banning them,” Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) told Axios earlier this year. “In their warped minds, they think that they’re being affected by Big Tech.”
We have receipts from each incidence. Whether it was govt coercion on big tech, shadow banning, COVID propaganda, and the left calling everyone conspiracy theorists before the evidence came out. Each time.
OK, I’ll concede that for shadow banning, specifically, we may not have had any “receipts” before the Twitter Files.
That isn’t about Twitter. You do this all the time — changing the subject or giving something different that a cite that is on-topic.
It's important to not only show the pattern that has been repeated by the MSM and the people who treat them as anything but propagandists.
And more importantly in this context, to show you repeating the same pattern.
Remember when in that other thread you responded asking for a 'cite' on when anyone called R's crazy conspiracy theorists, as if you had never seen such a thing, and the entire commentariat put up a wall of text with a good 20-30 examples, and you never responded to it?
This is part of the pattern.
Obvious thing happens
Media says 'nu uh!'
Everyone with eyes says...no but its happening we can all see it
Media says everyone believes in dumb conspiracy
Mike jumps in to defend media asking for 'cite?'
Tons of citations are evident
Time passes and Mike asks for 'cite?' on when media ever called X thing a conspiracy theory
Keeps happening.
Yep, you're consistently changing your position to keep with The Narrative.
This is Mike performing his standard gas lighting.
When these stories first broke, Mike was in these threads insisting exactly the opposite- that Taibbi proved that the government WASN'T influencing Twitter.
https://reason.com/2022/12/02/twitter-files-elon-musk-matt-taibbi-hunter-biden-laptop-censorship/?comments=true#comment-9819633
This was, of course, based on his wishful misreading of Taibbi's tweets. Now he is in here insisting that we "always knew" that Twitter was dishonestly collaborating with political operatives and the government.
For the record, there are two very salient points that cannot be ignored about all of these Twitter File drops.
1) We now have incontrovertible proof that Twitter was feigning impartiality while in fact intentionally weaponizing its censorship capabilities in the service of Democrats. This was a terrible episode in American history when supposed champions of communication and media betrayed the trust in them and instead used their extensive market power to unethically obfuscate and mislead the public for partisan purposes. This was most clearly on display during the Hunter Biden laptop story, where emails show that they buried the story under very weak pretenses, and then spent several days trying to come up with post hoc justifications. This was not illegal, but it was dishonest and unethical. And Mike will often run around screaming "nothing to see here" under the pretenses that in libertarian society, businesses are free to be unethical. The last thing he wants is for us to criticize them for being unethical- especially since for years he was insisting that they weren't even doing that.
2) Political hacks in the government have figured out how to use these unethical corporatist Big Tech firms to censor American citizens. This IS illegal and unconstitutional. And it is also DISHONEST AND UNETHICAL for Big Tech companies to participate in this nonsense. Let's be clear on that- because for all the hand waving that Mike tries to do, it is WRONG for Big Tech executives to let the government dictate their moderation policies, and Mike is a hack for trying to distract from that.
They did not always suspend the account. Just utterly cut off all broadcasting ability to that person, and that they never told anybody about. Lied to Congress, repeatedly, about doing that.
The fact you make this claim shows the immense lack of seriousness your positions are. I mean, it was clearly being hidden and obfuscated, but now that we finally get to see the extent, your claim is, "but everyone knew this." If so, you should have totally scooped, Taibbi, Schellenberger, and Weiss because apparently you already knew all this.
Mike is a dishonest hack? Quelle surprise.
Also, read the fucking story-stuff like this should concern you:
In April 2022, the Virality Project issued a report calling for the creation of a new government agency housed within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that focused on misinformation and disinformation.
Their experiences with telling Twitter what to censor led them to try to create a national censorship board within DHS. Just because they failed THIS TIME doesn't mean the impulse to push for government control of what people are allowed to say has gone away.
It does concern me. I can keep a sense of perspective about it, though.
It’ll only concern you if Trump is president again.
Or he’s on his way to the camp.
Even then.
Mike's the incarnation of Winston's neighbor, Tom Parsons.
"a mass of imbecile enthusiasms—one of those completely unquestioning, devoted drudges on whom, more even than on the Thought Police, the stability of the Party depended." - 1984
Even when he ends up in the Ministry of Love alongside Winston because his daughter turned him into the Thought Police for allegedly saying "Down with Big Brother" in his sleep, he agrees with it, because his subconscious must be a thought criminal.
""It does concern me.""
Sorry dude, your dismissal of the affair says otherwise.
There is a major problem when government starts meeting social media for the purpose of controlling information. Period. Also keep in mind the heads of these companies where being pulled to testify in front of Congress and Congress was talking about making them accountable. So of course they are going to fear authority and aid the alphabet agencies any way they can to prevent the wrath.
By the way, if you recall that story, despite the tone deaf name that was suggested for the new ministry of truth, there was no indication the idea was to do anything more than suggest moderation without any coercion associated.
Jesus Christ you’re such an evil fuck,
Maybe YOU evil fucks could STOP with the empty-headed name-calling, and, instead, name us ONE SINGLE PERSON who has been JAILED or otherwise punished, by Government Almighty, in the USA lately, for WRONG moderation of social media? Excluding child porn and murder-for-hire postings, etc? HELLO?!?!? ONE single example, PLEASE?!?! (Otherwise, PLEASE go home and SHUT THE FUCK UP!
I posted that taxes should be lower, and for that, they put me in jail! Now THAT would qualify!
Nobody was jailed because they all caved to the pressure.
Your friend buttplug wasn’t punished.
"...name us ONE SINGLE PERSON who has been JAILED or otherwise punished..."
Can you READ? (I, too, can name you persons who were NOT punished... For eating the wrong thing for breakfast... For scratching their butts at the wrong time... For blowing their noses disrespectfully... BUTT HOLY TITTY-FUCKING CHRIST ALMIGHTY!!!! These kinds of baseless whinings cater to AUTHORITARIANISM, and NOT to the love of individual freedoms!!!! WHERE are your values? Did yer momma teach you ANY values, of respect for others, and for their freedoms?)
We've been through this before you dishonest fuck.
Michael Lacey, James Larkin and Julian Assange, to name a few.
You're such a lying psychopath.
Assange revealed Government Almighty misdeeds, yes, indeed, and that is a GOOD thing! It STILL has next to NOTHING to do with punishing people for “wrong moderation”! Yeah, let’s punish Twitter for having taken suggestions from people that Mammary-Fuhrer does NOT like? Now WTF does THAT have to do with Assange’s whistle-blowing?
Assange was punished for what HE revealed, NOT for “wrongly” moderating the comments or posts of others!!! Hello?!? HOW will punishing Twitter or Twitter employees (for “wrong moderation”) fix ANY of this?
And did some Government Almighty folks make some WRONG web site moderation suggestions to Assange, and for THAT, they should be punished? Besides dragging whistle-blowing into questions about micro-managing WEB SITE MODERATION, what is Your Perfect FIX here?
https://crsreports.congress.gov/product/pdf/LSB/LSB10291
“The indictment alleges that, in March 2010, Assange agreed to assist
Manning in “cracking” a password stored on Department of Defense computers in order to access classified records. ”
NOTHING to do with Assange indulging in “wrong moderation” of the posts of others! NOTHING to do with PROVING the Great Mammary-Fuhrer’s case that the Sacred Perfect LAWS of Government Almighty would do such a MUCH better job of moderating the posts of PRIVATE WEB SITE OWNERS, than the owners of said web sites could do, on their own!
WHAT DOES ANY OF THIS HAVE TO DO WITH THE ALLEGED FAULTS OF SECTION 230?
Further above, You said that “He (Assange) didn’t even publish everything, instead releasing only that which showed the government deliberately breaking laws.”
Well, Great Genius, I leave it to You to decode the following: What happens if every Tom, Dick, and Harry gets to rifle through all of the USA’s secret files, and DECIDE FOR THEMSELVES what should be released, and what should NOT be released? Are You perhaps honest and intelligent enough to see that THERE WOULD BE NO SECRETS LEFT!!! Hello?! Nuke secrets, war plans, IDs of embedded agents, HELLO?!?! Are You cracking (or in favor of cracking) into computers in Russia, Iran, and North Korea, or ONLY into computers in the USA? WHOSE SIDE ARE YOU ON? WHO are You working for, and WHY do You Perfectly HATE the USA? Crack any passwords and intrude lately, or help others do so, Perfect ID-Thief?
Which was a lie from the CIA and has been proven to be so.
You would actually regurgitate known dishonest attacks by the CIA on whistleblowers, just to support your tribe's fascist narrative.
Yes, you're this fucking evil, Shillsy. Absolutely dispicable.
Any facts one points out that Mammary-Fuhrer doesn't like, are, of course, LIES! And She doesn't NEED to provide citations, because SHE knows what is and isn't a lie, with Her Perfect Inside Knowledge! TOP SECRET!!!!
So what’s Your Perfect “fix”, then, Mammary-Fuhrer? IF ONLY Section 230 had been torn down, and Assange had NOT released his hacked secret files, himself, directly on Wikileaks, but had, instead, POSTED them (as comments) on Reason.com, we could have blamed Reason.com, instead, for “publishing” them, and now, Assange would be totally FREE of all this crap? THAT is the anti-Section-230 “fix”, right, right-wing wrong-nut?
Dumbfuck HihnSQRSLo's having diahrrea of the keyboard again. It must be Feast Day.
Fuck off and die, spastic asshole.
"who has been JAILED or otherwise punished,"
Arguing with SQRLSY is like watching the drug-addled, soviet russian remake of Groundhog Day. He KNOWS for a fact that this argument is without merit, but he brings it up every thread because he isn't interested in conversation, just torturing other people with the same terrible copy-pasta every time.
https://reason.com/2023/01/10/house-republicans-to-probe-white-house-pressure-on-social-media-companies/?comments=true#comment-9870269
That is me responding to him (for the third or fourth time) and this terrible argument. Notice in that thread that once corrected, he moves onto other arguments and never brings it up again. So why is he here bringing up an argument that has been answered for him numerous times before?
1) He is senile and doesn't remember that this line of argument was refuted.
2) He is a dishonest hack who knows this argument is wrong but is merely hoping that no one notices.
Overt said:
To be clear:
1) The government can, and often does, get its way by THREATENING to fine, jail or otherwise disrupt entities.
2) The government can, and often does, get its way by offering money or other inducements to entities.
'1) So? If you have BALLS, you DISOBEY government, and then AFTER they punish you, NOW you have "standing" to take them to court! If Twitter-Twatter or FacePoooo have NO balls, then boycott them, as I do! Crying about taking down S-230 will NOT help!
'2) Carrots not sticks... This is a real problem (especially for taxpayers who pay for he carrots), but is totally distinct from S-230. So... WHO has been JAILED OR PUNISHED, or pushed or shoved around against their will, by CARROTS? My point remains... Government Almighty is NOT punishing ANYONE for WRONG moderation of web sites! Those who say that this is true, are liars and whiners! And somehow... They NEVER come up with EXAMPLES of this! Gee, I wonder why?
"So? If you have BALLS, you DISOBEY government, and then AFTER they punish you, NOW you have “standing” to take them to court!"
A point that has already been discussed before. And SQRLSY of course knows this, but again thinks that if he keeps bringing up the same arguments over and over, he can get the last word in.
For the record, SQRLSY admits here that the government could be intimidating people without sending them to jail. Now, he thinks the appropriate thing to do is to risk having your life ruined, and spend blood and treasure fighting in the courts. That is very big of him. But no matter- whether people actually fight in the courts, or they avoid that pain, SQRLSY has shown here that it is possible for the government to be persecuting people without them going to jail. That won't stop him from demanding that we show him people in jail next week.
"Carrots not sticks… This is a real problem (especially for taxpayers who pay for he carrots), but is totally distinct from S-230."
The only person bringing up 230 is SQRLSY. We know for a fact that the government was engaging in censorship by proxy. That has nothing to do with 230, and SQRLSY consistently brings it up because he wants to distract from that fact.
Around these pages, at least 80% of conservatives (now become authoritarians) lust after the demise of Section 230, imagining that after they do that, they can then pussy-grab the liberals (and make them cry). And the liberals will NEVER think of pussy-grabbing them right back! All of human history shows that this kind of power-grabbing and punishment-grabbing and pussy-grabbing NEVER works in the long run! And yet they keep right on doing it!
(I still have ZERO examples of people punished by Government Almighty, recently, in the USA, for WRONGLY moderating THEIR OWN web sites. This is paranoid fever dreaming by conservatives living in their own little paranoid world, grasping at excuses to go pussy-grabbing in supposed self-defense.)
If you think you're being repressed, do what every other person in the US does: go to court.
Why is that option no longer good enough for you?
Because you'd have to get a lawyer to put lies into a court filing, and they're oddly reluctant to do that, perhaps?
We have gone to court, doofus. It's called Missouri v. Biden. Look it up.
Your argument is lousy. Why defend SQRLSY One with your nonsense?
Just sayin --- you're not going to miss anything muting him.
I know I infuriate him, which is good because I despise Sqrlsy and want him to be miserable...
My apologies to the nurses and orderlies in his ward.
I pity You, Perfectly Stubborn Evil Bitch! If ONLY You would give up Your Perfect Evil, You would be MUCH happier! Good luck changing the world in Your Perfect Role as Queen of the Internet Cesspool!
haha ok fed
So if Trump gets reelected and the Department of Christian Values in Media is created in order to "suggest" to television networks that they ought to include Christian values in their programming and remove un-Christian values from their programming, you'd be fine with that, right Episiarch/Bo Cara Esq.? Just a suggestion, right?
Here's a suggestion, you fascist bootlicking Nazi piece of shit: exercise your 2nd amendment right to purchase a 12 gauge shotgun and a box of 00 shells, load the shells into the shotgun, place it in your mouth, and pull the trigger.

He wants to turn them all to sheeple!
On the sheeple, his Master would feast,
Master? A disaster! Just the nastiest Beast!
Kool-Aid man, please listen,
You don’t know, what you’re missin’,
Kool-Aid man, better thoughts are at hand,
The Beast, to LEAVE, you must COMMAND!

Hey EvilBahnFuhrer …
If EVERYONE who makes you look bad, by being smarter and better-looking than you, killed themselves, per your wishes, then there would be NO ONE left!
Who would feed you? Who’s tits would you suck at, to make a living? WHO would change your perpetually-smelly DIAPERS?!!?
You’d better come up with a better plan, Stan!
"....purchase a 12 gauge shotgun and a box of 00 shells, load the shells into the shotgun, place it in your mouth, and pull the trigger."
Shells plural? Why would you need more than one?
Evil people are like zombies... VERY hard to kill! Since Gabrielle Gaymon is obviously an evil person (or bot), Gabrielle Gaymon is PROJECTING!
You of all people shouldn't be calling anyone a bot.
He's *that* incompetent.
Your positions are so comical now. My god. You would be fun to debate with if you had principles or integrity. But apparently that's not your bag.
this level in trust in govt is either extremely naïve or extremely dishonest, given their track record.
But it is absolutely, 100% not, libertarian. Maybe keep that in mind next time you run for office under the L banner.
Just a reminder: wearing the T shirt and having the bumper sticker doesn't make you one
Just because they failed THIS TIME
What makes you think they failed?
You can look at dissolution of the Disinformation Governance Board (DGB) for one. But that hasn't stopped the government from funding organizations like the Global Disinformation Index.
"However, part of liberty is that a private company can decide to voluntarily coordinate with government or rely on government information sources if it wants to."
Is the government allowed to censor you? No.
Is the government allowed to PAY an employee to censor you? No.
Is the government allowed to pay a contractor to censor you? No.
Is the government allowed to ask that contractor to censor you for free?
According to Mike, that last part becomes ok, just as long as the contractor does it for free. As if it is the transfer of money that makes the government's efforts wrong. As if these companies doing these things are completely free of the outsized influence of the government.
The government should not have a department for determining what is "true" narrative and what is "malinformation". It should not fund NGOs that do these things. And it should not "partner" with industry- either sympathetic supporters, or reluctant submissives- to achieve the same. These are not legitimate functions of government.
But here is the thing: It was a message that Mike likes, so he is going to be in here spreading his moral confusion every day, just as he was spreading the false ivermectin hoax that Rolling Stone put out there. He doesn't care about the truth any more than the Virality Project did. He cares about the narrative.
So then vote for politicians who at least SAY they won't do these bad things. But "Team R" does NOT look very promising with regards to these things recently!
So your “fix” for this is to vote for Trump again? Or for Josh Hawley? https://reason.com/2019/03/01/josh-hawley-section-230-big-tech-cpac/ Sen. Josh Hawley Rails Against ‘Big Tech,’ Anti-Conservative Bias, and Section 230

From Sohrab Ahmari to Josh Hawley, what the new right really wants is to squelch free expression.
TRUST in us, just TRUST in us, they say!!!
Shorter SRLSY: Don't talk about censorship. Let's talk about anything but that. Please. Let's talk about Trump, Ok? Just, for the love of god, don't heap any scorn on those people I identify with. Please!
Shorter Overt: "Team R" can do no wrong! Whatever "Team R" does is justified, because "Team D" did it first, or the worst!

Stung By Twitter, Trump Signs Executive Order To Weaken Social Media Companies
The government should not have a department for determining what is “true” narrative and what is “malinformation”.
Those are valid needs for justice and (defense) intelligence agencies as well as Congressional Oversight.
Obviously, yes. The government can "ask" private individuals to exercise their own constitutional rights in a way which the government believes is in the public interest. The "payment" aspect you have raised is a red herring (because the government can coerce without paying money, of course).
If not, what law do you imagine prevents this?
The government can “ask” private individuals to exercise their own constitutional rights in a way which the government believes is in the public interest.
Sheesh, talk about begging the question.
The 1st Amendment, of course. Have a look at it.
It is good to see that we finally got the government our taxes paid for! /s
And much more!
It’s not a good thing.
Mike's an idiot.
Stanford researchers, and later Twitter staff themselves, also flagged campaigns against vaccine passports as a worrisome bridge forming between the anti-vaccine community and the wider "right-wing media sphere."
People who think this is an infringement on our freedom are spreading vile lies and deserve to be silenced!
Some commenters would not fand that to be sarcasm.
*find*
Now do election fraud and climate crisis.
The first is impossible, and the second cannot be questioned.
What kind of idiot consults Twitter for health advice?
Or tries to give economic advice here?
What kind of idiot trusts the government?
Trump cultists and DeSatan cultists!
Hahahahaha
So let the government ban them, right, Pluggo?
Good point.
Yes, you and the pedophile who got banned for posting dark web links to hardcore child pornography should definitely run with this line. Of course we'll all just politely ignore the fact that you spent 3 years histrionically whinging about misinformation on Twitter costing people their lives and causing a public health crisis and your continuing defense of censoring user accounts at the behest of government agencies who paid hundreds of millions of taxpayer-extracted dollars to the company in question to do so. Only a moron would get their health news from Twitter, and that's why its OK for the federal government to police speech on Twitter. Definitely go with that, Episiarch/Bo Cara Esq. You're doing such a good job! You totally don't look like a bootlicking Nazi faggot prick!
^+1
We need this sort of outrage!
(applause) well said.
The same kind of idiot who posts dark web links to hardcore child pornography and gets their account banned at Reason.com?
It's like Kellyanne Conway said about the whoppers Fatass Donnie was telling - "They're just alternate facts".
People today believe the "truth" is something their side tells them. It's like the goddamn 2020 election. Fatass Donnie said it was stolen from him by massive systemic fraud. HE DON'T NEED NO FUCKING EVIDENCE BECAUSE ITS THE TRUTH!
VULGAR MADMAN , we all know turd, the ass-clown of the commentariat, lies; it’s all he ever does. turd is a kiddie diddler, and a pathological liar, entirely too stupid to remember which lies he posted even minutes ago, and also too stupid to understand we all know he’s a liar.
If anything he posts isn’t a lie, it’s totally accidental.
turd lies; it’s what he does. turd is a lying pile of lefty shit.
And, like Mike, he *is* evil on top of being dishonest to a fault, but it would be a mistake to credit this to some sort of ability to foresee the results of his actions.
Like Mike, turd is evil and duplicitous *because* he is abysmally stupid.
"HE DON’T NEED NO FUCKING EVIDENCE BECAUSE ITS THE TRUTH!"
Except for all the evidence. https://hereistheevidence.com/
Thanks! This data source is new to me.
ok fed
Or like the time you lied and said you didn't get your original Sarah Palin's Buttplug account banned for posting dark web links to hardcore child pornography, despite being presented with evidence from the Internet Archive conclusively demonstrating the thread where you posted dark web links to hardcore child pornography and got your original Sarah Palin's Buttplug account banned.
Hey, since only a moron would get their medical information from Twitter, why is that the government needs to censor information on Twitter again, pedophile?
^+1 - turd deserves every reminder the asshole gets.
You live alternate facts, dipshit. Like those alternate facts about your banning for posting child porn links to Reason, or your alternate facts about inflation, or your alternate facts about wanting gridlock in DC while voting for all the Democrats you can.
At least now we know this whole pandemic was started by raccoon dogs.
Nope. It was Randy Marsh.
Makes more sense than a farmer's market.
The next Resident Evil will be based in Raccoon Dog City.
Obviously racist accusations.

this is absolutely the biggest scandal of our time. there is no close second.
Not sure.
Gov't agents suppressing news about Biden just prior to the election might take the prize.
Regardless of the gold or silver WE WERE LIED TO IN ORDER TO ALLOW TIN POT DICTATOR-WANNABES TO TAKE POWER, and someone should be held accountable.
With jail time.
Bury them up to their necks at low tide.
And unfortunately Reason was perfectly fine with carrying water for the State at every point along the line.
I’d say this is part of a larger movement. Twitter is clearly a fucking disaster, and we know that exactly the same things were happening all over the place. Facebook, IG, YouTube, etc, but it’s just the tip.
Senators calling for open censorship. Universities and NGOs working hand in glove with government to censor.
Twitter is huge, but it’s only a sliver of their full-blown attack on our speech. If we have an epidemic, it’s a censorship epidemic running through all of the elite institutions.
It was only one tool of many used in the Coup d'Etat, which while not a scandal, its effects will be greater.
More ?blessings? of Commie-Education.
Facts do not matter. Woke scolds will never let go of COVID-19 lies. It was a ruse the entire time but it helped further the agenda.
Yes. And a big problem are the leftist idiots who still hold these beliefs despite mountains of evidence against them.
Vax can lead to death, came from wuhan lab, censorship of people telling the truth, and with evidence to support all of it, but there’s still a large enough set of people who claim none of that happened and it was good for us anyways that the truth will never matter.
It is layers upon layers of lies. The core lie is that somehow it was either a natural occurrence (laughable) or the Chinese made a mistake. Both are deflections from the truth that Democrats funded this bio weapon for over 20 years, and Democrats used it for the purpose it was designed for - to maintain political power.
There are not “mountains” of evidence for the lab leak theory. There is a handful of circumstantial evidence.
The animal origin theory is weakly supported, too. Truth is we may never really know.
Then if we will "never know," I'll take the obvious answer of lab leak.
We have gov't agents strong-arming media to suppress information harmful to a POTUS candidate just prior to a POTUS election.
We have gov't agents strong-arming media to suppress information harmful to lies promoted by another gov't agency, hoping for a power grab.
We have all this hidden until (much as I hate to say it) thanks Musk, and now we have an amazing display of ducking and weaving by steaming piles of TDS-addled lefty shits attempting to deny it.
Gabrielle Gaymon, I welcome you. We do not need 'calm discussion' here, we need PISSED OFF PEOPLE!
If any of you still donate a sizable amount to Reason, now's the time to make yourselves heard.
Fuck you, Welsh! Get your ass in gear.
Bingo.
(wild applause)
When you expand “misinformation” to include information that makes people thing incorrect thoughts, it all makes sense. People need all the help they can get.
Censorship isn't helping people, at all. You do not believe in the freedom of speech.
The USA is already a totalitarian State. Trump just made us aware of it.
That trivializes true totalitarianism.
Trump just made us aware of it.
Trump forced them to show their hand
One thing you guys missed.... this is not about Twitter. The name Twitter is at the top because Twitter gave us the documentation to filter through.
But that same documentation makes it clear that these people were talking to every single tech platform and media outlet. And they were successful everywhere.
The emails released by Taibbi show this, and they even talk about how they began reeling in the smaller players like parlor and signal.
The scale and scope of this is astounding. It covers most of the federal government and dozens of NGOs and every mass media and tech platform... and even financial institutions.
And most startling ... it is not under the control of the executive. Neither Biden nor Trump was calling the shots.
Even if you are a paid DNC shill, this has to give you serious pause.
it is not under the control of the executive.
This. Our Professional Bureaucracy needs to be terminated as Reagan did with PATCO. Fire them all from the top down. De-Commission every Federal Agency and Department stood up since 1915. Make them re-compete for a position if any of the Agencies get re-Chartered.
Also to be underscored...
Not a single one of them talked.
Not one company. Not one exec. Not one reporter.
Nobody.
Every single one did exactly what they were told to do, and every single one of them kept quiet and pretended nothing was happening.
I would have bet everything I have that this was impossible. Sure, one or two companies might go along. Sure, some reporters agree with the agenda, so they will happily keep quiet.
But this conspiracy is vast. Thousands of people are involved.
One would think that it was enough that several would talk.
But in reality, it is enough to make sure that nobody talks. Or at least, nobody can hear anyone who does talk.
I simply have been making $20k monthly on social media only for few hours daily.every person will try for this activity. BTW... this finally reveals exactly why YouTube took Louder with Crowder down for quoting the CDC website.
LwC and their lawyers were pretty outraged and pushed the story for quite a while... they got censored for "misinformation" for reading the numbers from the CDC. Now we know. The Feds were explicitly telling them to take down *truthful* information if it was being used to question what they were doing in any way.
Meanwhile the AP is touting the Chinese gov’t line that there’s “new” evidence that is started with racoon dogs in their wet market and the lab leak is totes BS.https://apnews.com/article/covid-virus-origins-coronavirus-lab-leak-wildlife-wuhan-raccoon-dog-4dafbb46a575e14eff9fedf2e705aee2
I think they doth protest too much.
So it went from bats to raccoon dogs? Seems like any excuse will do for AP, as long as it fits their narrative, even if their new position was mutually exclusive to the position they held before.
Remember when Reddit banned No New Normal for misinformation?
