It's Time To Legalize Haggis
Will a petition from a physician bring the USDA to its senses?

An American medical doctor and author has petitioned the U.S. Department of Agriculture, asking the agency to lift a decades-old rule banning the use of lungs in food. The petition, filed this month by Jonathan Reisman, argues the ban is unscientific.
"When I read the federal code and details of the lung law I quickly realized that the law made no medical or scientific sense and was not contributing to public health in any way," Reisman told me this week by email. If successful, his petition would lift a decades-old ban on the sale in this country of authentic haggis, a tasty, traditional Scottish dish typically containing sheep's lungs, heart, liver, and stomach, along with oatmeal, onion, suet, and spices.
Reisman, author of The Unseen Body: A Doctor's Journey Through the Hidden Wonders of Human Anatomy, filed the timely petition this month, just in time for this week's annual haggis-filled birthday celebration for Scotland's beloved national poet Robert Burns, born on January 25, 1759. Among Burns' best-loved works is his poem "Address to a Haggis," which he dedicated to his country's national dish and the "gushing entrails" that go into it.
The sale of authentic haggis has been illegal in the United States for decades, I explain in an entry on food bans that appears in the Oxford Encyclopedia of Food & Drink in America. The ban has been in place since 1971 when a USDA study found—despite pushback from "[c]ertain interested parties"—that the lungs of livestock were unhealthy and could not be served as human food.
The ban appears in federal rules published at 9 C.F.R. § 310.16, which declare that "[l]ivestock lungs shall not be saved for use as human food." (The rules also state that inspected livestock lungs may be used in pet food unless an inspector condemns them.)
Are lungs safe for people to eat? Physician James Chlebowski, who submitted a comment in support of Reisman's USDA petition, thinks so. He explains that "as a family doctor who has practiced in rural Pennsylvania for 30 years, I have never seen any illness related to the consumption of lungs, which is common in the Mennonite, Amish, and homesteader communities here."
While those particular lungs aren't being sold commercially (and are for personal or family use instead), lungs from animals that would be sold commercially have added protection—they are already being inspected. That's because federal law mandates that every cow or sheep (and most other livestock) intended for commercial sale in this country must be inspected before and after slaughter by federal or state inspectors.
"Animal lungs with infections and parasites should, of course, be condemned and kept out of butcher shops," Reisman rightly explains. But thanks to the USDA rules, even perfectly safe and healthy lungs that pass USDA inspection can't be sold as human food.
The lung ban has succeeded not only in halting the import into this country of authentically prepared haggis from Scotland, but also the sale of domestically raised lungs for use in haggis in this country. That's a shame, Reisman notes, partly because "virtually every other advanced country allows lungs" to be sold as human food. And not just for haggis. Notably, while the lung ban is often painted as a haggis ban, it's not just Scots who want it lifted so they may consume a popular authentic food from their ancestral home.
"[T]he USDA rule also bans traditional lung-containing dishes from a variety of cultures, including those common to China, Nepal, and several European countries," I explained in a 2014 Vice article opposing the ban.
As that article's date suggests, I've hated the haggis ban for some time. Call it personal. My late grandmother, Margaret Ruthven, hailed from Scotland, and I've enjoyed authentic haggis there on several visits.
"On a trip to Scotland in 1994, a kilted tour guide defined haggis for me as 'all the parts of the sheep you wouldn't want to eat, boiled inside its stomach,'" I wrote for Vice. "That didn't dissuade me from trying (and enjoying) haggis."
Last year, on a great return visit to Edinburgh, I again enjoyed some excellent, authentic haggis.
"I did eat haggis in Edinburgh and I loved it," Reisman tells me. "The liver taste was not overpowering, but in perfect balance with the grains and other organs. Delicious!"
It is delicious! Haggis is also a time-tested, celebrated, safe, and culturally significant food that Scots and the Scottish diaspora around the world are free to enjoy. Just not those of us in the United States—yet. Readers who support legalizing haggis can read Reisman's petition and submit their own comments to the USDA in support of lifting the ban by clicking here.

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for 'lorem ipsum' will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like

Sheepishly, I do admit to having eaten haggis with hags... Butt they MADE me do it!

While I am a liver lover when it comes to calf liver, chicken liver, and pig liver in the form of the Southern favorite of liver pudding, I draw the line at any other organ meat.
Chicken gizzards--which for some reason are always left in the breast pieces no matter who sells them--are bitter and terrible! And pork chitterlings smell unbearably horrible even on ice, let alone thawed! *Yeeeech!*
I would have to say that legalizing haggis is one of those "right-to-be-obnoxious-and-offensive" issues. Yes, it is a right to eat haggis, but don't expect me to partake.
The secret to haggis is having whisky for the first several courses.
That would do it. 😉
Haggis? I don’t think I could stomach that.
It's a good heart meal.
A woman dressed as Robert Burns' mother demonstrates how to hurl haggis in the U.K. (Andrew Milligan/ZUMA Press/Newscom)
You mean hurling haggis doesn't involve a garbage can or toilet? 🙂
She may hurl the chieftain of the racist puddings like a girl, but at least she's not dressed like Burns' father.
I’m not accusing haggis of racism; I’m (rightly) accusing it of being disgusting. ????
Whether she’s dressed in drag makes no difference here either. Victor/Victoria, RuPaul, and Divine put together could not make haggis sexy.
I've lived over 50 years in Nashville and have never heard of liver pudding. And my Uncles worked in a slaughter house.
When you say "Southern". Is that Southern USA?
You may be too far west
Yes, North and South Carolina and most likely other places too.
Neese's Liver Pudding is my favorite and there is also Frank Corriher and Mack's. Some farmers make micro-batches and sell them only in select country stores.
Basically, it is pork liver cooked to a pulp with spices added (mixed with cornmeal, it's called liver mush,) then it's formed into loaves and wrapped. Best preparation is breaded with flour, fried, and eaten with eggs or grits or in a sandwich.
And that's the story of liver pudding and liver mush, Charlie Brown. Think of it as pork paté! 😉 I find it delicious!
Yeah, sounds like pate. And sounds pretty good.
While liver is rich in vitamins, it is also very fatty. I usually eat liver mush only once a month or so as a delicacy.
KFC once had fried chicken livers, but they are long gone. I miss eating them with either ketchup or Heinz 57.
Whichever liver you have, do make sure it's well-done. Boss Hogg eating it raw is pretty gross. 🙂

If it's any solace, I had never heard of Cajun Cuisine until Bojangle's Chicken and Bisuits came to the Charlotte Metro Area in 1976 and even then, a restaurant didn't come to my hometown until 1980.
Also, I had never heard of Nashville Hot Chicken until just about 5 years ago.
The Information Age, mega-markets, and refrigerated delivery has slowly but surely brought everything together everywhere for all who use it to advantage.
Lived in Nashville and never heard of Nashville hot chicken either until about 10 years ago myself.
My lilly white ass was ashamed!
There are organs besides livers and guts. Intestines and such I agree are pretty nasty. Weird bitter bile taste. But hearts and lungs and even kidneys if they are done right can be pretty good.
Don’t pan it. You just lack the guts to enjoy all that it entrails.

If you want to eat insects, Reason should (and already does) advocate for your right to do so.
That has nothing to do with the totalitarians who hope to force us to eat insects instead of other sources of protein.
So your first sentence was pointless.
I actually like roasted mealworms and grasshoppers.
What I don't like is them saying that I can't have a steak whenever I want and can only eat mealworms and grasshoppers.
You can have a steak. It will just take a moment to manufacture one for you in the 3D Steak factory. Contains lab grown meat and 'other' products.
That won’t fly with this commentariat

Victoria Nuland said yesterday that the US is working on setting up a "judicial mechanism" to prosecute Putin, whom she preemptively declared guilty. Thus confirming that the US is pursuing regime change. If you're throwing Putin in prison, you're changing the regime by force
Also seems like the US dealing a death blow to any potential negotiations. If the US is publicly declaring its intent to remove, prosecute, and imprison Putin, that's effectively a declaration that the war can now only be resolved with the demise of the current Russian government
So it would seem the only options now are unconditional defeat for Ukraine or unconditional defeat for Russia. Because the US is blasting away any conceivable framework wherein some brokered settlement might be agreed among the parties. Ratcheting up the existential stakes to max
Here's the exchange with Victoria Nuland and Rand Paul where she explains the US position on prosecuting Russian officials. She cites Rwanda, Bosnia, and Kosovo as precedents. Seems very tactful to tell Putin he'll be getting the Milosevic treatment unless he obliterates Ukraine
[Video]
What if some of our bravest activists glued themselves to painting in the Kremlin?
Reminds me of my reaction to the project Veritas video:
We got mfers gluing themselves to works of art that are hundreds of years old, but we can't get Pfizer targeted for any direct action...
Somebody in his staff needs to epoxy Putin's bunker door shut with Putin inside and a Makarov pistol with him...with multiple rounds in the magazine in case he misses his basal ganglia lizard brain.
Oh wow.
Huh? How would obliterating Ukraine help him? Do you think the Ukrainian forces, or anyone else, are going to march on Moscow?
You really don't understand the conversation.
He evidently does, since he refers to Ukraine as being part of a Totalitarian Empire, notwithstanding that Putin was part of The Soviet Empire and wants to Revanch it was a New Eurasian Empire.
Putin was tired of Russian leaning citizens in historically Russian Donbas being victims of western fomented genocide while corrupt Kiev was breaking the Minsk accords and NATO was establishing new eastern bases after promising never to do this.
So what explains all the ethnic Russians siding with Ukraine, hundreds of thousands of Russian protesters against the war, and all the Russian men of combat age leaving Russia in the hundreds of thousands to avoid military service?
Are all these Russians as Van Jones might say brainwashed and carrying out systemic Anti-Russian oppression and Ukraine Supremacy?
Granted, all governments have some measure of corruption and Ukraine’s is no exception and I wouldn’t defend that. But does opposing that mean ignoring the hundreds of thousand of dead Ukrainians and near 2 million captured as slave labor for Putin?
None of this would have happened if Putin had never invaded. I might add if Russia had a De-Sovietization and an equivalent of a Nuremberg Trial for all the instigators of the invasions of Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Afghanistan, and Poland, perhaps people on both sides could feel more at ease.
None of the Russian acquaintances I have support Ukraine. I know folks on both sides of this. Some of the Russians blame western meddling, with which I agree. The Ukrainians feel entitled to free everything and have gone catatonic when questioned about the genocide, the corruption, the murder of Daria, the bioweapons labs, the lionization of Stepan Bandera and other hard questions asked.
Of the reports I have seen from the region, it looked like some thousands left Russia to avoid be called to active duty. Western (and Ukrainian) propaganda has been substantial during the SMO. Plenty of Ukrainians have left to the UK, Poland, Romania and other countries. At the time of the initial exodus, that number was reported to be in the hundreds of thousands but those were western numbers.
Strawman.
Ukraine was reported by the west as being the most corrupt nation the month before the SMO vegan. Dozens of bioweapons labs discovered supports this. NATO military equipment sent there is showing up all over the place. One can visit darkweb arms sites and get what they want. Kiev was given multiple opportunities prior to the SMO to end the genocide and adhere to the Minsk accords. Zelensky decided otherwise. Slave labor? That’s new. There are videos out of Ukraine showing Kiev troops treating captured Russian soldiers inappropriately. I get video out of Russia and concede that at least some is likely controlled. There is also video from the fog of war and have yet to see Russians posting “slave labor” clips.
Perhaps if the United States had stayed out of eastern Europe as it had promised, none of this would have occurred. Instead, Lindsey Graham participated in a foreign coup. Maybe so he could get some boys’ asses. He should face a crimes against humanity trial. McCain is deceased so he escaped that.
The troops deployed to Budapest and Prague were Warsaw Pact initiatives. The Molotov-Ribbentrop agreement was made by a state no longer existing…the invasion of Afghanistan was one of the major pillars that led to the fall of the CCCP. The decision makers for that disaster were mostly if not completely dead when the last troops left, which applies more so for those part of the early 1940s agreement. The US later invaded Afghanistan and committed war crimes there. Those people are still alive with some in office such as aforementioned Graham and Biden. Western involvement costs me tax money and devaluing of the dollar while simultaneously increases the risk to a nuclear exchange. I’m hundreds of miles from targets and am prepared to go without; I still greatly want to avoid where we are headed. The only winning move for the US is to stop playing this game.
I'm having a little emergency at the moment, but I'll try to catch up when I get back.
You're still a master punster, even where we don't always agree. 🙂
Greetings! I’m back.
Saturday night, I took off my work clothes, shoes, and socks and noticed my index toe was dark red, swollen, and blistered. I never dropped anything on it or hit it against anything and to this day, I don’t feel anything, so it all gave me a shock!
Being Type 2 Diabetic with Peripheral Neuropathy, I knew this is something I could not tough I t out. Sunday morning, I went to the emergency room, got hooked by wire to diagnostic machines, got blood work and an IV of antibiotics, and had a visit from the X-Ray Tech.
It turns out I broke my toe and didn’t even know it(!!!)
I suspect it was the tongue and insole of my shoe bunching up and creating pressure as I walked.
The Doctor gave me a boot for my foot, a prescription of antibiotics, and a podiatrist recommendation. I got out in 7 hours and even worked half a shift, then a full shift on Monday.
I’m just glad we both acted in time to keep things from getting necrotic and gangrenous and deadly. Modern Medicine is a wonder to behold! ????
When I checked in, I volunteered my COVID-19 Vaccine Card and volunteered to wear a mask, but staff said it wasn’t necessary. This was also the case when I had a colonoscopy and a polyp excised a couple of weeks earlier. Evidently, things have let up on the WuFlu War in NC! ????
With all this out of the way, let me play catch-up, get my bearings, and address what you’re saying.
I'll try to address these points individually as best as I can:
As much as I despise Putin, Dugin, and Kirill, I do not regard any of their uninvolved kin or civilians surrounding them as fair game for harm or killing, including Daria Dugina and the same-given-named cartoon character. 😉
And despising Putin, Dugin, and Kirill does not mean supportng Stephan Bandera or anyone else of his Nazi ilk, and judging from his Wiki page, the majority of Ukrainians don't view Bandera positively either.
I am a cranky and proud member of the "Get Through A Damn Day" Caucus and I regard both Russian and Ukrainians civilians who want peaceful, free lives as honorary members with me.
As for bioweapons labs, the whole world is potential bioweapons lab if treated that way. Soil samples and boullion left out overnight could breed all kinds of creepy-crawlies, both good and bad, Bread rubbed on surfaces and waved outdoors* can render probably hallucinogenic mold samples or beneficial penicillin, and leaky basements can foster deadly black mold.
(My biology teacher reminded us to wait until nightfall to wave bread outdoors, lest the neighbors see you and have you put away.). 😉
Anyway, Chemical and Biological Warfare is probably the most ridiculous kind, since it can always come back on the one using it through wind or water. Anyone with bioweapons labs for any purpose except counteracting bioweapons agents would have to be insane.
(And with all the talk about SPB, I don't want to even go to the Dark Web by accident.)
I think you've misunderstood what a Strawman is. A Strawman Fallacy is where someone constructs a caricature of an argument that nobody is making and then knocks it down to claim they've refuted the argument.
Both Russians and Ukrainians have gotten out of that part of the world and they can't be blamed for wanting out of the harm's way created by Putin's invasion. No Strawman involved here, but flesh-and-blood human beings.
Here are two links about Ukrainian civilians being abducted by Putin and sent abroad for who-knows what horrible purpose:

In addition to this, refugees from the war are at risk for slave labor and forced sex trafficking in the other nations where they have fled.
Speaking of all of these horrors, there are no statutes of limitations on Murder, War Crimes, or Crimes Against Humanity. Anyone from any era who is alive and committed them can be hunted down and arrested anytime, including former Soviets who invaded and oppressed so many millions in their Empire.
I fully agree with you that Europe would be better off as several mini-superpowers that have gave up the Gummint Cheeze Welfare States and don't need U.S. subsidy of their defense.
I, in principle, also agree that if Russian-speakers in Ukraine want an amicable divorce from Ukraine and want a peaceful, free land of their own, they should have the right to vote on it.
But I have never heard of anyone teaching self-reliance or successfully brokering real estate deals in the middle of a firefight. Israel tried with the Palestinians during The Oslo Accords in the Nineties and it just didn't go down well.
Wow. This genocide must be very easy to prove. How many people were killed? It's surprising that it never was spoken about until after Russia attempted to justify their war.
And given that Russia performed a military invasion of Crimea not a decade ago, I have to say that Ukraine preparing for war and cozying up to potential allies against their more powerful neighbor was clearly very justified.
Look. No one's buying your propaganda. Please log off and take a nice long walk around Moscow.
Now, now! Chubby comes off as a friendly fellow, but like any of us, can be thoroughly mistaken on any subject. Let me see what I can say on this to address what he's saying.
Chumby, that is. Autocorrect keeps messing that up.
"Thus confirming that the US is pursuing regime change."
Much like Putin, but without the collateral damage.
Nuland is willing to fight this war until the last Ukrainian is lying in a pool of blood. So brave.
The obsession that the American foreign policy establishment (many of whom trace their ancestry back to the Czar) with Russia is very telling isn't it? They have old world grudges with the Czar and honestly even the old Soviet regime who they likely would have supported if Trotsky had won his battle with Stalin. These folks can't wait to spend American treasure and mostly rural kids blood (while their kids go to Ivy League schools and guaranteed jobs at Goldman, Big Tech, Hollywood, or some Federal agency) to avenge what the Czar did 140 years ago. We need a foreign policy elite with folks who care about America and represent Americans true security interests..peace with all

Haggis is not delicious. The only thing the lung ingredient does is to tone down the liver taste of the sheep liver and the ‘earthy’ flavor of the ox bung . Which is basically the function of the oatmeal as well. And the food that haggis is traditionally served with – mashed potatoes and turnips. This ban is silly but as irrelevant as banning lutefisk – cod with hints of soap and the texture of snot.
Just because a food is traditional, associated with one day each year, and linked with literature , doesn’t make it delicious.

I won't get into all the reasons education is so bad now, but, yes, the Department of Education (federal especially) deserves a LOT of the blame. It's been a consistent catastrophe for over 40 years. Even St. Reagan made it worse. Critical pedagogues (Marxists in ed) too. Bad.
You have to appreciate, as a last word on why the problem is so bad, that the colleges of education were, according to Marxist ed historians, completely captured by 1992, 31 years ago. I repeat: our colleges of education, thus the whole pipeline, have been "critical" since 1992.

Farmers Assoc is saying the avian flu was mild. Asks why store shelves are stocked with eggs if there is a shortage.
https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-price-of-eggs-soaring-138-is-no-coincidence
Our Sam's club was completely out of eggs. Our Hy Vee was low on inventory also. Locally there is a shortage.
I have yet to see a store not nearly fully stocked here. For some reason Costco members get caught up in shortage crazes. They were buying max TP quantities here emptying in 30 minutes. Less than a mile away an albertsons had plenty.
Inventory was lower than usual at my local Meijer, but it was odd that the store brand organic eggs were 50 cents cheaper than the cheap eggs ($4.49/doz vs. $4.99/doz).
There is no shortage but it is obvious that price is doing the rationing of demand because supply HAS dropped. The notion that people are hoarding a year's supply of eggs just proves that you are a complete moron who either doesn't understand how markets work or prefers eating eggs after they turn rotten.
Supply of laying hens has dropped because of avian flu. Hens in crowded industrial conditions (cheaper eggs) is where avian flu has hit hard because it spreads quickly in those conditions and eliminates the entire warehouse in a few days. Further, it takes time to raise chick to laying age so when the warehouse is dead, the layers need replacing en masse using expensive feed and those costs can only be covered by raising prices on eggs from surviving layers. The result is that prices have risen far more than the two categories below. Hens in conditions that use more space and rely on decentralized pecking for bugs (expensive eggs) rather than centralized grain bins are not vulnerable to avian flu for the same fucking reason that social distancing works in pandemic. So fewer flu losses and less feed to rebuild – means very low price increases over the last year. The inherently expensive eggs are currently selling at roughly the same price as inherently cheap industrial eggs.
Meat chickens (virtually all industrial conditions) only live for a few weeks so avian flu doesn’t hit much if warehouses are locked down successfully. If it does hit there is no incremental feed cost beyond the normal feed cost of chick to slaughter. Year over year there has been some inflation but it is mostly feed costs.
It’s easy as fuck to see and judge the impact of avian flu. If you think the prices of eggs you buy has risen a lot – or if you see shortages, then the cause of that is avian flu. If the price of eggs you buy hasn’t changed much, then that’s because your supply chain of eggs is not as vulnerable to contagious disease.
Yes. Let's trust you has been wrong at every step instead of the producers of eggs. What would they know.
It helps if you read articles you wish to opine on instead of repeating CNN talking points.
That article is exactly right about why egg prices have to rise so much to tamp down demand. It’s called price inelasticity. Exemplified by the little tidbits in the link – people ‘need’ eggs, etc
Which is an economic notion not evidence of some conspiracy. You accept it as conspiracy because you attribute everything to conspiracy. Like the entire Rothwell Caucus for that matter.
What’s hilarious is that you think Farm Action (the group attributing conspiracy) is a group of farmers. When in fact it is a bunch of woke leftist activists . But because they know the power of the word conspiracy to nutjobs like you, you are now their useful idiot. Congrats moron
Supply of laying hens has dropped because of avian flu.
You can't explain supply/demand to a Trump Cultist. It is similar to explaining differential equations to a dog.
They will come up with some story about how Biden shut down Big Egg production in the USA.
Lol. Another moron who can't be bothered to read what producers are saying.

See JFree, when you have shrike supporting you you are likely wrong.
We’ve had shortages off and on for at least the last month here in Dallas. Shelves will be empty at every store we frequent for a week and then mostly stocked the next.
Milk has been like that too.
That seems to be a general supply chain problem. Target is out of something every week. And it is random.

Finally found a "lamestream media" article via Google News from the socialist swine at Forbes.
Executive summary - Tucker Carlson is full of shit, Project Veritas are known ratfuckers, and no evidence can be found that this Jordan Walker is even an employee at Pfizer - not even on Linked In.
Wow, a Pfizer exec bragging about “Frankenstein science?” That sounds like a monstrous revelation, doesn’t it? But before Carlson’s claim makes you sit bolt upright in your chair, keep in mind that this was Carlson who had said this. Yes, this was the Tucker Carlson whom John Oliver has called a “superspreader” of Covid-19 vaccine fears and doubts and a “scrunch-faced fear baboon,” as I covered on May 3, 2021, for Forbes. Now, to be fair, Carlson is not necessarily always “scrunch-faced.” He has also sported the “I’m concerned”, the “What’s you talking about, Willis”, and the “I really have to go to the bathroom” facial expressions. But is there any truth to what Carlson has been claiming about this Project Veritas video or is it actually a hot air baboon situation?

You weren't embarrassed enough from your Newsweek article yesterday?
He’s never embarrassed. His goal is not to win a debate, it is to pull commenters into one.
His goal is to post assigned articles and hijack conversations.
That is true for some of them; I think for him it is his narcissism. White Mike occasionally throws out the “homework” assignment post whereas Pluggo’s posts typically result in that.
Buttplug, shame, guilt? He never seems to have either.
"Project Veritas are known ratfuckers"
Are you sure? I don't think that they work for Open Societies.
"and no evidence can be found that this Jordan Walker is even an employee at Pfizer"
Except for the Wayback Machine cached Pfizer webpage from two weeks ago listing him.
I'm glad you decided to run with this. I'll be reminding you of it for months.
That is Brave of other search engines to still include it in their results.
Brave actually was bad for a bit due to a hidden tag the pharma companies and fact checkers added. They seemed to have fixed it.
Most haggis is hurled differently. Linda Blair did it best.
I always thought that was pea soup she was spewing.
????
Oh well, as Cromwell said: "Think it possible, in the bowels of Christ, that you may be mistaken."
😉
I thought it was a picture of Hillary and the headline was "It's Time To Legalize Hags"
So typical of Reason that Linnekin hasn’t said a word about the biggest food controversy of our times:
https://www.polygon.com/23574687/m-and-m-spokescandies-super-bowl-ad
“For example, the green M&M was changed so she had shorter legs and stopped wearing high heels. The redesign prompted backlash from far-right pundits like Tucker Carlson, who criticized the changes as ‘woke.’”
This is the slimiest PR stunt since IHOP trolled everyone by saying they were changing their name to “International House of Burgers”.
Seriously (sort of), this stunt seems insulting to Maya Rudolph. Not clear if she was in on the joke, agreeing to let her name and image be used as a boring replacement spokesperson.
"Hah-hah-hurr-durr, I'm comparing Reason's multi-year purposeful dismissal of the Biden laptop, social media/government censorship collusion and hard evidence that the Trump/Russia scandal was a hoax, with a phony bit attacking Republicans over M&M's"
Never change, White Mike.
He's having an amoral panic.
Or maybe has has/had a thing for the green M&M babe/lesbian.
So an entry about haggis is going to be this weekend's open thread for comments on all subjects? Somehow that seems fitting here.
That’s usually how the weekend food post goes.
The GOP is made up of bumbling morons who almost seem like they want Democrats to win, Example #I'veLostCount
Asa Hutchinson says he's 'absolutely' considering a presidential bid
Go for it. Jump in!
Then Hogan should join you. Followed by Liz Cheney. And a dozen more warm bodies who have a combined 0.0% chance of being the nominee, but who might split the "Not Trump" vote and give Democrats exactly what they want.
#WhatGoodIsA2PartySystemWhenOnePartyIsntEvenTrying
It really doesn't matter who the losing party candidate is going to be, until mail-in voting fraud is addressed.
I suppose "Republicans might as well nominate Trump again for the lulz because Democrats have already won" is a more compelling pro-Trump-2024 argument than some Reason regulars can produce.
#FaintPraise
I'm starting to think Sandra is a parody as well as OBL.
This is the TDS parody character she is doing now I guess.
Unfortunately, I think Republicans need to get over Trump to have a chance. I don’t think she’s trying to say anything but that.
She posted a few days ago how the GOP needs to move on from Trump and laid out arguments why.
The RNC just retained Ronna Romney, someone quoted one of them as saying they want the type of people who read newspapers voting for them. These people are probably still wearing powdered wigs.
The GOP is made up of bumbling morons who almost seem like they want Democrats to win
A two year investigation of HUNTER BIDENS PENIS will show everyone how serious the GOP is.
Yes, we know you think Hunter's penis is The Most Important Thing.
Pluggo the Pedophilic Penis Prognosticator
You really do have a massive phallic obsession there, Pluggo.
"A two year investigation of HUNTER BIDENS PENIS will show everyone how serious the GOP is."
At least you hope so, because a two year investigation of the Biden family bribery racket scares the living shit out of you.
I think this might be bad advice.
Something like 0.003% of police encounters result in extraordinary harm being inflicted on the suspect/subject.
https://twitter.com/MAJTOURE/status/1619373975687282689?t=WmfIxLQNyL4Jwsfznd6aXw&s=19
So when I say #GiveViolenceATry I dont want to hear SHIT from you cowards.
#BlackGunsMatter
As we all know, I support this philosophically. I just don't think most individual encounters with cops are tactically or strategically opportune moments. And I don't think most people subjected to those encounters are going to be great champions of the larger cause (that being liberty and the fight against totalitarianism).
Be smart.
Haggis.... mmm? or not?
I will be going to a Robbie Burns Night next month, so I guess I will find out! It's bound to be better than Lutefisk.
In my experience, enough alcohol can make haggis palatable. But nothing works for lutefisk.
+
My first thought was that there were a lot of comments on haggis and then I notice the usual suspects had filled the space with off topics comments.
I would be more inclined to eat lungs than other organs like brains. Brains can harbor slow virus and prions that can infect you now and have effects 20 years down the road. There are also lot worst things than lungs and I must admit I have tried a few, raw oysters for example.
Why are the leftists pretending weekend links haven't been like this for years? A special kind of idiocy?
A purposeful kind of idiocy.
He knows, he's just playing dumb.
Even Mike didn’t go down this route.
On the list of libertarian care abouts, Haggis is way at the bottom. A niche topic so they can avoid serious ones.
They would care if there were delicious haggis trucks roaming the streets.
I dunno, I find it a breath of fresh air
That sounds, like, Terry Gross!
🙂
M4E isn’t playing dumb.
There's a local joint in St. Louis that serves "haggis." It may be without lung, and it's cooked, I think, in plastic instead of stomach? I dunno, but it's freakin' good. They also served haggis fritters. Very delicious.
I've always liked haggis.
The ingredients are less awful than what goes into hot dogs or balogna, so I don't know what the fuss is about.
True, hot dog are lips and assholes. They might be made from Tony, Shrike, and Jeffy.
First they came for the haggis eaters, and I did nothing.
Then...the haggis eaters came for you?

.@DrewHLive captured footage of the aftermath of the #BLM-inspired looting in Memphis following the video release of #TyreNichols.
I've had haggis several times in Scotland. It can't hold a candle to a nice plate of crispy scrapple.
Questions for the gallery...
I live in an illegal state and my pot dude is being flaky.
While I look for a new vendor, anyone tried hemp derived Delta 9? I've ordered some moon rocks and gummies from a place in Cali but not here yet.
Anyone tried this stuff and can give me some (productive) feedback?
I'm a daily smoker, so afraid I will have to smoke a shit ton to get stoned.
Can't answer, perhaps your question will show up in the Reason podcast.
I wonder when Indian tribes will start selling weed? They surely could corner the market if they underprice the states and the black market.
I think they already do in Oklahoma, just off reservation.
It's Time To Legalize Haggis
Marijuana and heroin I can see. But haggis? You've got to draw a line on this whole "freedom" thing somewhere.
Memphis police ban Scorpion unit
Tyre Nichols: Police unit is disbanded after death https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-64442756
I almost—ALMOST—feel sorry for the Memphis PD. They’re getting rocked like a hurricane with this!
When I read "Scorpion Unit" I can only think of this.
Rock on, Memphis.
Gilda Radner: Where's the tablecloth?
Dan Akroyd: Um werrrrin' it!
A record 16.3 million people flocked to the Affordable Care Act exchanges for 2023 coverage, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services said Wednesday.
..............
Open enrollment on the federal exchange and most state marketplaces ran from November 1 to January 15. But those who lose health insurance coverage, have a qualifying life change or have very low incomes can obtain policies throughout the year through special enrollment periods.
Wow, I recall when you Peanuts were certain Obamacare was in a "DEATH SPIRAL" and would cease to exist.
I disagreed. Had many debates with RC Dean - he was certain about the DEATH SPIRAL!!!
I obviously don’t remember a debate between you and RC Dean, but I would assume he was arguing that it was in a “death spiral” because of the costs/national debt, not because people weren’t using it.
Are you saying his argument was that people wouldn’t sign up for it and therefore it would die?
They argued that without the individual mandate and penalty it would fail - that no one would want it and it would wither away adverse selection.
Youre literally cheering on expanded welfare by government. The reason enrollment up is because of decline in labor participation during covid and loose rules with extra government payments decreasing costs. Ie government is pushing more spending. It is not cost neutral like you and the other democrats claimed it would be.
Tell me how you aren't a Democrat again?
Pluggo, RC Dean speaks for everyone? Has he been deemed the relevant authority?
Hmm, seems like the strongest argument to make against Obamacare is that it is contributing to the escalating national debt, so therefore unsustainable. Yeah, I don't see "no one would want it" as being a good argument.
turd lies; it’s all he ever does. turd is a kiddie diddler, and a pathological liar, entirely too stupid to remember which lies he posted even minutes ago, and also too stupid to understand we all know he’s a liar.
If anything he posts isn’t a lie, it’s totally accidental.
turd lies; it’s what he does. turd is a lying pile of lefty shit.
"But those who lose health insurance coverage, have a qualifying life change or have very low incomes can obtain policies throughout the year through special enrollment periods."
Those sound like the people to found a nation on. Or maybe a political party. Or national policy. But not really.
Irish steak 'n kidney pie became available stateside back when Afghanis were throttling the Accursed Soviet Hun. These were flat tins you opened to reveal a layered crust, and when oven-baked the things were heavenly... except to monolingual, no-passport Americans... who neve tasted them.
Have you had New Zealand meat pies? Goddamn they are tasty!
The Irish mostly speak English, same as in the US and same as in Vanilla Mike’s referenced New Zealand.
Your narcissism flaring up today?
Most heteronormative Irish think speaking English can’t be licked. But some others try to get a gay lick or two in there.
So the Paul Pelosi body cams have finally been released to the public by order of a CA judge and they completely back up the government story in my opinion. Video of Depape breaking in. Video of the cops at the front door. Video of the crazy fuck attacking Pelosi. Looks to me like Pelosi and the police were completely rational and responded appropriately under the bizarre circumstance. To the extent that I suggested otherwise in the past, I was wrong. The only questions remaining are, why did the state refuse to release the videos which only serve to legitimize their case and where the fuck were the Capitol Police?
911 Operator - playing it cool, or complete idiot?
It’s a bit bizarre. From the video released, it almost looks like a burglary gone bad, with the attack coming after getting caught by Paul Pelosi. I mean, it’s 1 to 2 am at a well-to-do house in San Francisco. If these videos had been released earlier, a lot of speculation on both sides could’ve been nipped in the bud.
Because they knew that withholding the video would spawn doubts by the right wing, which it did. Then lots of speculation by right leaning types seeped into the media. The whole point of withholding was to reinforce the "right wingers are nutty conspiracy theorists, hence the right has no credibility... yada yada...
It was "never let a catastrophe go to waste" type strategy. Kudos to the left wing on this one.
Haggis had a long and illustrious run as speaker of the house. Now, she is retired and back to a normal position.
After leaving my previous job 12 months ago, i’ve had some good luck to learn about this website which was a life-saver for me.They offer jobs for which people can work online from their house. My latest paycheck after working for them for 4 months was for $4500.Amazing thing about is that the only thing required is simple typing skills and access to internet.
Read all about it here………………….>>> http://www.jobsrevenue.com
Legalizing lungs would also make it possible for Czech and Slovak immigrants and their descendants to enjoy the sausage jaternice in its authentic form. I believe traditional Appalachian cooking also makes use of 'lights'.
This is a libertarian publication. The headline should read "It's Time to Legalize Everything".
Fair fa' your honest, sonsie face,
Great chieftain o' the pudding-race!
Aboon them a' yet tak your place,
Painch, tripe, or thairm:
Weel are ye wordy o'a grace
As lang's my arm.
Well said!
I ate haggis years ago at a Burns supper when I was a grad student. It truly was delicious. I hadn't realized it was illegal here. Must have been banned by jealous people with asthma.
I thought it was "According to Big Brother".
Unfortunately, Hill's is just one of many nearly identical posts...
Occasionally after eating colon, squirrel was stuffed. At other times, it was his colon that was stuffed.
Shaggis.
Try Scottish chef Paul Wedgwood's brae squirrel haggis at his Edinburgh restaurant Royal Mile.
Making it it properly in New York entails force feeding quinoa to a cackle of vegans until their livers turn to foie gras, which may then be used to fatten Washington Park squirrels for comfort food restaurants like the Waverly Inn.
Big Nonbirthing Sibling
Great article, Mike. I appreciate your work, I’m now creating over $35,000 dollars each month simply by doing a simple job online! I do know You currently making a lot of greenbacks online from $28,000 dollars, its simple online operating jobs.
