Donald Trump Announces He Will Run for President in 2024
The former president will seek a second term, despite continuing to insist he already won one in 2020.

Donald Trump announced that he will seek the Republican nomination for president in 2024, ending more than a year of speculation.
In an announcement from his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, the former president hyped the record of his first term, with his usual mix of brags and fabrication. He even intimated that China may have interfered in the 2020 election because of how tough he had been on the country as president.
Making his run official, he declared "We are a nation in decline," but that "America's comeback starts right now."
Trump has teased an announcement in some form or another since last May, barely three months after leaving office the first time. Many Republicans worried that if he announced before the midterms, it would hurt the party's chances by shifting focus to the controversial candidate.
As if to split the difference, the night before the midterms Trump promised a "very big announcement" a week later. In that sense, it's hard not to judge the announcement in the wake of a midterm election in which his party performed historically poorly, with his hand-picked candidates faring worst of all.
The former president's first term ended contentiously, with Trump insisting that he had been denied his rightful reelection victory. His continuous propagation of myths about election fraud led hundreds of his most ardent supporters to storm the Capitol building in an attempt to delay the certification of Joe Biden as president. To this day, Trump proclaims publicly that the 2020 election was "rigged" against him.
Tuesday's announcement came more than seven years after Trump announced his first run, in which he borrowed a phrase that would soon festoon red hats everywhere: "Sadly, the American dream is dead…But if I get elected president I will bring it back bigger and better and stronger than ever before, and we will make America great again." In the same announcement, he proclaimed his opposition to trade deals and his affinity for tariffs, as well as his distaste for immigration from non-European nations—beliefs which unfortunately became policy in his administration. During his announcement, Trump bragged about those policies.
It's anybody's guess what a second Trump administration would look like, and plenty of doomsayers have already been speculating. But it's quite unlikely that Trump 2.0 would be of any particular comfort to libertarians.

I predict that in short order some right wing blogger or similar with claimed legal credentials will assert that under their reading of the constitution and other relevant law and guidance, etc. you cannot indict someone officially campaigning for the presidency, and this idea will spread around the right-wing blogosphere and you will hear it from every ignorant Trumpsucking friend and family member.
Hahaha, rage and seethe.
Hardly - though nice projection. I merely predict the same old garbage SOP.
What are you going to indict him on? Making America Great Again?
Or maybe you think questioning election integrity is a crime?
You cannot be unaware that he is under investigation for a variety of crimes, e.g., the retention of documents at Maga-Lago.
LOL.. Post-Job Paper holding? Is that all you've got to hang your hat on?
Nope, I just provided that as an example following your admission of ignorance.
So proceed, proceed....
Funny you would use a non-significant as your baseline.
Google pay 200$ per hour my last pay check was $8500 working 1o hours a week online. My younger brother friend has been averaging 12000 for months now and he works about 22 hours a week. I cant believe how easy it was once I tried it outit..

I love it. I hope Trump Wins. Trump 2024. Make Leftists Cringe Again(MLCA)
The bottom line is - Trump is NOT one of them. He is not controlled. And he is not under the globalist control. So everyone in DC hates him. Including controlled republicans. Only obedient Harvard grads are allowed to be president. And ideally, they need to be leftist. When Trump ran in 2020, he was so close to getting the popular vote it was ridiculous. Democrats are absolutely terrified someone like Trump would get the popular vote, because all of these states would immediately give their electoral college votes to Trump if he won the popular vote:
Maryland, New Jersey, Illinois, Hawaii, Washington, Massachusetts, District of Columbia, Vermont, California, Rhode Island, New York, Connecticut, Colorado, Delaware, New Mexico, Oregon
This is another reason why I feel something was up in the 2020 election for Biden. They absolutely, under no way, can allow a republican to win the popular vote. Now is there any evidence of the steal? No. But if there was a steal, they would make sure there was no evidence.

Great article, Mike. I appreciate your work, i’m now creating over $35000 dollars each month simply by doing a simple job (knd-15) online! i do know You currently making a lot of greenbacks online from $28000 dollars, its simple online operating jobs.

What a jackass you are! He merely pointed out that the Dems have threatened prosecution for several reasons. Why does that make him a liar? Are you seriously denying that the Dems have threatened prosecution?
Yes.. Dems have become political witch-hunters (just like the German-Nazi's were who were also National Socialists). I was just asking for a reason SRG seemed to think Trump should be indicted short of not being a Democrat. Apparently not returning job papers is a big deal these days.
“What are you going to indict him on? Making America Great Again? Or maybe you think questioning election integrity is a crime?”
That certainly does suggest either ignorance or deliberate avoidance of the most likely criminal indictments Trump is currently facing.
The other one relates to attempted election manipulation in Georgia, btw. Happy to help!
I get paid over 190$ per hour working from home with 2 kids at home. I never thought I’d be able to do it but my best friend earns over 10k a month doing this and she convinced me to try. The potential with this is endless. Heres what I’ve been doing..

Now do Obama. 30 million pages, not one returned to the government.

Not really all that secure when compared to Mar-A-Lago.
All in possession of the National Archives. Never have been in Obama’s personal possession.
This taking point was debunked months ago. Why are you still repeating it?

How full of shit are you? This has been shown time and time again how and where the documents are stored.

Good ole Blue State Jesse.
Hey chipper. You ran away last time. Tell is about how marxism is close to libertarians again.
Weird how you only ever come out when democrats win now.
Well, legally speaking, you can't be president for more then two terms. Trump claims he actually won in 2020. Therefore he can't run again without admitting that he did indeed lose.
I’ve been told several times here in the commentariat that Reason writers have TDS for continuing to write blog posts about Trump since Trump was no longer relevant.
Now that he is officially running for President, we are officially allowed to discuss him again without it being TDS.
he will not win a single primary
We can only hope.
It depends on what happens in the Democrat primaries. I'm not sure the Democrats would fear another Trump campaign at all.
After all, running against Trump (even if he isn't on the same ballot) is a proven vote-winner these days.
No doubt some genius Democratic strategist is in some Zoom meeting right now pitching the idea of promoting Trump in the Republican primary. Sigh.
If only that were true.
I tend to agree here. The 2022 midterms suggest there is not much gas left in the Trump tank. He also will not get the free ride he got in 2016. He has a record for 2024 some of which is good, but he cannot avoid being asked about the bad.
The "outsider" thing is also stretching a bit thin. He still controls the entire RNC machine.
It boggles the mind that a billionaire who used to pal around with the Clintons could convince people he was an outsider.
2016 he as running against the most hated candidate in US history. And he still didn't get the popular vote. Eight years later the demographics will have shifted even more to urban districts. Hillary lost primarily because she mocked flyover country. Trump can't win if he continues mocking everyone who isn't him.
Remember all those comments about how old Biden was during the 2020 race. Guess what — Trump will be just as old in the 2024 race.
Oh man, I hope he wins them all, fractures the GOP into the economic nationalists like him and a more libertarian friendly party of free traders and competent economic policy.
Wouldn’t it be more like economic nationalists vs middle-of-the-road corporate-friendly internationalist hawks?
he will not win a single primary
there will not BE any primaries.
Invest in popcorn manufacturing companies.
DeSantis vs Trump. It's on!
The other day Trump posted a “truth” where he claimed he has some kind of dirt on DeSantis that he will unleash if DeSantis officially declares a run against Trump.
Does Trump really have something or was it pure b.s. like Trump’s recent claim that he intervened to save DeSantis’ ass in his first gubernatorial race. Who knows…
We're already at 3 consecutive elections in which he's been the greatest gift Democrats could hope for. Can he make it 4?
He's basically the Herpes of the Republican party at this point.
Yeah. One night of fun (and I admit watching Hillary get humiliated in 2016 was awesome) followed by a lifetime of regret.
That's a great way to describe him.
unless the NDA says you can't
Trump, the Clintons, the GOP, and Neocons (and the Deep State and the MSM...) have all been in bed together since the 90s... and *only* Trump has herpes and only the GOP caught it is the story you're going to go with?
JFC it's like all of you have been eating out of the litter box since you were 2.
So on script
Hey, you've finally found leftist friends!
Sorry you misinterpreted my OBL character so severely. I knew some people would.
But while I have your attention, what reason is there to believe Trump would beat Biden in a rematch? Do you think his childish behavior between November 2020 and now gains him more supporters than it loses? Do you think economic conditions in mid to late 2024 will be so bad that any warm body would beat Biden? And if so why should that warm body be Trump who wouldn't be eligible to run in 2028?
Dementia and horrible policies aside, Biden is actually a complete JACKASS in terms of both personality and temperament. Gee..could any party running against his potentially put up a better candidate? (STAY TUNED!!!)
As little control as the GOP exercises about who wins a nomination and, somehow, Kammy Harris just fell out of the sky into the position as Biden's heir apparent.
The epic retardation of libertarian bothsidesism is getting to be ludicrous.
Biden does a passable “just plain folks” persona, for people who don’t look too closely.
“what reason is there to believe Trump would beat Biden in a rematch?”
Republicans will never win another election unless mass mail-in/drop-box fraud is stopped.
Call me a “denier” but there’s no way in hell Biden won the last election or even got remotely close.
Paper ballots, purple fingers, public counting after the total number of ballots is tallied.
Oh, lord. This crap, still?
Why do you hate antifraud measures?
I don't. I hate bullshit stolen election claims because people can't accept reality.
But it was cool between 2000 and 2008, and again between 2016 and 2020, right?
#NOTMYPRESIDENT #RESIST
Not at all. Just because I don't like Trump doesn't mean I support progressives. Maybe ease up on the reactionary binary thinking.
Or maybe instead of playing the ignorance or frozen deer in the headlights game the people can insist on solid elections.
End mail-in voting.
End anonymous voting.
Require a photo ID.
Hire multiple checks and balances from non-partisan loyal companies.
It's not as if it's a problem with no possible solution.
It's actually a problem created on purpose.
In view of the evidence, the only "problem" is in your mind.
Honestly; Who wins the election shouldn't be this important in the USA. It only is because Nazi(National Socialists) conquered the USA and installed a "Our democracy" Nazi-Regime of gang-land politics by completely voiding the US Constitution.
If people want to start indicting politicians maybe they should be more focused on indicting them over break the people's law over them.
Our election was hijacked. There is no question. Congress has a duty to #ProtectOurDemocracy & #FollowTheFacts.

Josef's Lament:
Call me a “denier” but there’s no way in hell Biden won the last election or even got remotely close.
You're a denier. FWIW the polls had Biden way ahead for months. Then there's the little matter of 60+ lawsuits not one of which managed to prove fraud.
"FWIW the polls had Biden way ahead for months."
That's not even remotely true, who are you trying to fool?
"Then there’s the little matter of 60+ lawsuits not one of which managed to prove fraud."
How many of those lawsuits were allowed to go forward to the point where evidence was actually presented? I'll give you a hint, pick a number between 0 and 2.
Frightened judges refusing to hear cases in the first place isn't a lawsuit now matter how hard you blue checks twist it.
Josef's Lament:
How many of those lawsuits were allowed to go forward to the point where evidence was actually presented? I’ll give you a hint, pick a number between 0 and 2.
And you're lying again. And I exclude those cases where Trump's attorneys specifically stated they were not alleging fraud after they'd been asked by the judge.
Apparently the Right doesn't worship every word of their "dear gods" like the left does. I wonder if Clinton would've said were not alleging fraud after watching live TV subtract current vote counts or watching massive wins in person get swindled away by the mail man shoveling in anonymous votes. Or how about the foreign IP access to vote counters. A machine update right in the middle of counting? The list of reasons to suspect fraud is not only endless but the summation of it all put a majority of the people to infer fraud had occurred and that even included Democrat Voters.
No... Dear-God Clinton based her 'fraud' evidence on advertisements from Russia... LOL... What a joke.
None of this word salad alleging "fraud" has been proven in court.
Preach it to the true believers and leave the rest of us alone.
The pre-"stolen election" refrain on the Alt-Right was indeed that the polls were being manipulated to show Joe Biden with a stronger lead--to discourage Republicans from voting.
Democrats were pre-complaining about stolen elections this whole cycle, too. If they lost, they had the narrative in place.
The Hill (Jan 2022):
Senate Democrats say they share President Biden’s concern that the results of the 2022 midterm elections may not be legitimate because of restrictive voting laws passed by GOP-controlled state legislatures and the empowerment of state-level officials allied with former President Trump.
Democrats believe there’s plenty of evidence that Republicans are trying to steal future elections and feel bolstered by extensive reporting by CNN, NBC and other media outlets on the state-level machinations of Trump allies.
Senate Democrats are especially concerned about the election certification process for close races.
Some Democrats, however, felt a little uncomfortable with Biden directly questioning the legitimacy of the 2022 election results, especially after Trump and his allies spent more than a year trying to undermine the legitimacy of the 2022 election.
A lawsuit in Fulton County Georgia managed to show, by examining digitized images of mail-in ballots and corresponding audit tally sheets, that the totals were fraudulently manipulated to favor Biden. The lawsuit, by a member of the Constitution Party who had not voted for Trump, was brought weeks after the Trump legal team had declined to press a legal challenge using affidavits of 4 election observers that reported seeing stacks of mail-in ballots without any folds.
The group, VoterGA, sued only to prevent future election fraud (had they sued at that late date to overturn the election results their case would have been tossed.) The lawsuit ran for months with the judge allowing a preliminary examination of ballot images, but not the ballots themselves.
Among other problems, the VoterGA team found 7 falsified audit tally sheets containing fabricated vote totals for their respective batches. For example, a batch containing 59 actual ballot images for Joe Biden, 42 for Donald Trump and 0 for Jo Jorgenson was reported as 100 for Biden and 0 for Trump. The seven batches of ballot images with 554 votes for Joe Biden, 140 votes for Donald Trump and 11 votes for Jo Jorgenson had tally sheets in the audit falsified to show 850 votes for Biden, 0 votes for Trump and 0 votes for Jorgenson.n (The number of mail-in ballots in Fulton county exceeded the difference in votes between Trump and Biden.)
Then, months into the trial and shortly before the plaintiffs would finally be allowed to literally look over the shoulders of county employees (to avoid claims of taint) to look for mail-in ballots without folds, the judge unexpectedly ruled that the plaintiffs did not have standing (on the theory that vote fraud is a generalized grievance, not a particularized injury.) This theory would make it impossible for any Georgia voter to ever have standing to sue over voter fraud regardless of evidence. The ruling has been on appeal for months. The ballots would normally have been destroyed by now, unexamined. VoterGA has asked they be preserved as evidence. I don't know if their request has been honored.
It's a little bit more than that. The plaintiffs complaint was that their votes were diluted because of fraudulent ballots. Three separate investigations found no evidence of fraud. Details here:
https://www.ajc.com/politics/georgia-ballot-inspection-case-dismissed-after-no-fraud-found/OUVOQ5I5ARHMBJ62CX3YBHRMYM/
Yeah... It wasn't election fraud it was just forgivable mistakes... /s
Something about close to 10,000 votes being skipped from Trump on recount, after hours UN-monitored counting, cases of ballots under a table. It was all just forgivable mistakes.. Including tally deletion on live TV. Executive orders thwarting the rules... No need to worry ourselves about it. The fairest election ever! /s
But by golly if Russia runs any social media advertising...
OMG election fraud, election fraud pull out a years long congressional investigation.
Compulsive ignorance and denial-ism doesn't authenticate elections.
1. No, the lawsuit didn't "manage to show" anything. The lawsuit "alleged" quite a lot of things, but an allegation is not the same as a finding of fact by the court or even a jury. Confusing the allegations in a case with the findings is a fundamental error.
2. The "Trump team" might have had standing, but they gave up for some reason. Maybe they realized they would have been wasting Trump's money? In any case, the decision was theirs.
3. The case was dismissed before trial, not "months into the trial". You could only make this error if you really had no clue about how courts actually work. Like saying the judge's ruling on the standing issue was "unexpected"--as though the parties had not been discussing that very issue in opposing court filings for weeks.
4. Although the law does recognize "that vote dilution could be a basis for standing, such as in malapportionment and gerrymandering cases", if the law otherwise prevents Georgia voters from "ever have standing to sue over voter fraud regardless of evidence", that is a problem related to the law of standing--not related to allegations of voter fraud per se. Perhaps the law is wrong? If so, change it--don't just use it as the basis for whingeing about your favorite president losing an election.
5. The petitioners in this case can appeal if they want to (usually defined as "if the money/sense ratio allows it").
Denier
It's just hilarious watching you go from an intentional woke parody to an never-Trumper unintentional parody.
Nobody that threatens the uniparty or is good for Americans in any way is going to win in 2024. The totalitarian left/establishment owns the ballot boxes. They're running 3rd world style elections without even trying to hide it anymore. You apparently still have faith in the integrity of The System and believe in the honesty of government, bureaucrats, and activists. Thus you blame all ills on Trump. It's worship of the media narrative and "proper" politicians like Mitt Romney. You really think begging the bloodsuckers to stop looting us and play according to civil rules is going to work?
It's hilarious how quickly you turn on people who don't properly kneel before the orange man.
What's fucking hilarious is seeing people who think they're "independent minded" turn into msm scripted NPCs when talking/thinking about Trump.
Kneel before Cheeto!
Keep sucking totalitarian cock, soy.
I'm not the one shilling for a king-wanna-be.
You're the one reading the cathedral's script and advocating full faith in governmental integrity...
No, I'm not. How you even come to that conclusion is astonishing.
"No, I’m not. How you even come to that conclusion is astonishing."
LOL
I'm sure it is for you.
Now do Obama. 30 million pages, not one returned to the government.

What is with you people and straw man arguments?
Those 30 million pages have never left the possession of the National Archives.
This talking point was thoroughly debunked months ago. Why are you still repeating it?
Another "Shrike" sock has been found! Burn her!
I'm still waiting for some of this 26D chess I keep hearing about to play out, but the long shot hope in the back of my mind is this:
So, Trump enters the race and goes full-on scorched Earth against Desantis. Desantis is enormously popular among Republicans and a fair number of independents right now and does not return the favor. He ends up looking like the stronger and more reasonable of the two, and wins the primaries.
Now, the media doesn't have much of a link between the two that they can so easily tie the Trump anchor around Desantis's neck, politically. Not that they won't try, repeatedly, but now he has plenty of video evidence to back up the non-connection.
Eh? Could it play out that way?
Trump the jobber is a possibility. I think it's an unlikely scenario, but who knows.
All I know is that anybody who threatens the march to totalitarian globalism will not be allowed to win without a real, literally bloody fight.
Voters don't matter anymore.
The evidence is overwhelming!
Sandra, the question I am left with: Can one separate the policy from the man? To me, this is the dilemma Team R faces. Team R has a year to answer that. If Team R is utterly incompetent politically (and I believe they are - see midterm result), they will engage in a 16-month long circular firing squad and run a candidate 'crippled' from the Team R primary.
POTUS Trump has a lot of baggage. On top of that, I have never seen any political figure in recent American history (last 50 years) attacked by our intelligence/legal apparatus as this man has been. It is unreal.
It's a weird feedback loop. Trump is a nut which inspires TDS in the deep state which makes them nuts which legitimizes Trump's grievances and allows him to gain support while continuing to act nuts which drives the deep state bonkers which...
If the alleged deep state really exists why hasn’t Trump simply died from a heart attack or falling down a flight of stairs by now.
For all of those who think this is a sound strategic move, I ask this question in all honesty ... do you know anyone who has had their TDS go into remission?
Trump's sure hasn't.
If someone is susceptible to TDS, their character/intelligence/integrity was already compromised.
Trump is a catalyst, not a creator.
I agree about the catalyst part, Nardz. You're right about that. He also keeps the reaction going, and that is where he hurts himself. That is where the baggage comes in.
When you say 'sound strategic move', do you mean Trump's strategy, the GOP's strategy, DeSantis' strategy, or that all of the above should be in lock step?
It’s a brilliant strategy. Declaring now, Trump avails himself of several advantages.
1) He ( further) cements himself as party lodestar ( sorry, DeSantis, you’ll need to wait your turn);
2) He gets to orchestrate the GOP House agenda, which minimally will castrate the left;
3) He gets to activate and expand the political war chest and machinery-to include ballot harvesting, drop boxes, etc., this time around;
4) He gets to daily deride Biden’s sleepwalking performance, which is likely to get worse.
Best of all, he gets to enrage and expose the fake news and social media trolls. I hope he drives them into apoplexy.
what reason is there to believe Trump would beat Biden in a rematch?
By the MSM narrative, the mostest popularest President in history is no longer the mostest popularest and may be the mostest unpopularest. Trump did better in 2020 than in 2016.
I’m not saying Trump should run or would win, but there’s some pretty objective metrics that, were I him, suggest that the contest is by no means unwinnable.
Imagine if, in late Oct. 2024, two HAWK missiles, funded and refurbished by the US rather than s300 missiles landed in Poland.
Don't care where your political sensibilities lie. You were funny before and now you're not. Miss the parody, it was good.
No... The chicken-pecking mentality is Democrats 'gift'.
It doesn't matter who the next Republican President is; They'll be the greatest 'gift' to chicken-pecking bird brains.
The irony of that fact is unbelievable. Watching his supporters cheer him on not realizing he's the best thing to happen for Democrats.
The greatest gift to toppling Mrs. Clinton and the Nazi(National Socialist)-Regime building party. The Nazi-Party could use more gifts like him. See we're only doing it for your own good. Learn to take responsibility for yourselves because armed-robbery isn't a sustainable career path.
You mean the guy who allowed Dems to fully control DC?
Yeah. Why do you root for Dems’ best chance in 2024?
Your assumption is noted. That Biden would win Re-Election over Trump (but not DeSantis); did I fill in that last part prematurely?
Frankly; I disagree. When it comes to policy I think Trump was more LIMITED Gov than DeSantis is but if you want to build up DeSantis as being the LIMITED Gov-God be my guest.
Where am I stumping for DeSantis?
Is that what you all do here, set up straw men claims to argue against?
I'm not a rocket scientist but you you hate Trump and you hate DeSantis and they are the current news subject I would have to infer you just hate Republicans and let me guess... Reason being; late turning in after job homework 🙂 lol... UR a joke. Seems your only benefit to this board is chicken-pecking.
Where did I say I hate DeSantis. Jesus, can you not resort to straw man arguments, or is that all you can do?
Are you even capable of any subject outside of being a chicken-pecker against Trump or a compulsively passive-aggressive defensive joker?
Man, you definitely aren't playing with a full deck.
Sure, sure.. I mean like pretending the re-election of Trump is going to be a gift to the Nazi-Regime building empire is totally a full deck.... LOL...
If only the Rs would run respectable candidates like GW Bush or Susan Collins could this country continue its descent into totalitarianism with grace!

“called Putin’s supposed fanboy at Mar-a-lago, and begged him to intercede with his buddy.”
Actually quite a nice idea. Give the man something to do, can do spirit, man of the world, bask in global attention, high ratings, universal praise, a spring board for a presidential campaign. Didn’t Jesse Jackson do something like that in Syria?
Perhaps I'm wrong but I'm taking Creech as a Trump fanboy and his comment is meant, surprise surprise, facetiously. But if Trump were to intercede and facilitate Griner's release, I think it would help him in his bid. Or have I misread Trump and his supporters? Are they happy to see Griner in a gulag, in Russia, or stateside, and would they see the return of Griner as a negative and betrayal of nature, god and all things MAGA.
Nobody cares about griner
I'm certainly not a Trump fanboy. I don't think Putin would pay the slightest attention to Trump. And the media would call Trump "pathetic, powerless publicity hound" and call on Jimmy Carter to intercede on Griner's behalf. But if Putin did, the media would be screaming "See, we told you all along these two were in cahoots."
"I’m certainly not a Trump fanboy. "
Sorry about that. Most posters here seem to be. Trump putting his neck out would be risky but could put him head and shoulders above his rivals even if he were to fail. And if he were to succeed, it would earn a lot of credit among Republican voters, at least, make Biden look ineffectual and a lot of media attention.
On reflection though, interceding on behalf on Griner seems a bit of a stretch. According to the Trump fanboys here, who faithfully parrot Trump, there are many Jan. 6 protestors unjustly imprisoned, and Trump has done nothing for them, his most loyal and active supporters.
What an unbelievable, narcissistic moron. This announcement reeks of desperation.
I’m honestly amazed that he can’t see how pathetic he’s become.
"This announcement reeks of desperation."
How so?
It's projection
Seriously? He's the former president who lost, who lost the Senate and House, who never had majority support, and who just watched DeSantis dominate. He schedules this right after the election to steal the show, yet it's after everyone of his candidates lost but for JD. All who were literally funded more by the DNC than Trump's PAC. Who is getting pilloried in the news, including conservative sites. Who lashes out at DeSantis and Youngkin. Who announced way early (like a poor chance candidate does). Walks out to being referred to as the next president.
Seriously, what about it isn't desperate?
None of that is desperate, a lot of it is your own projection. Are you drunk or high?
Anyway, you're talking to a "denier" who thinks the assertion he "lost" in the first place is on pretty shaky ground.
Projection? Am I drunk or high? Seriously? Talk about desperate.
Or conversely, you don't know what desperate means.
Sure, that's it. Wow.
I support DeSantis --- but Trump's announcement was just a normal announcement about running for President. I don't see anything more than that in it.
If you don't see the desperation of lashing out at Republicans who haven't even said they are running for president yet all while announcing his candidacy 700+ days out from the election and right after everyone he supported got throttled, then well done on the blinders.
Pretty well sums thing up.
Frankly; I'd prefer Trump over DeSantis. DeSantis seems to want Gov-GUNS to win gang-land culture wars. Trump was mostly focused on stopping USA invasion and De-Regulating the nanny-state (LIMITED Government) and supporting federalism (Fed vs State) generally inline with the US Constitution. More so than I've seen in a long time anyways.
I was against Trump from the start thinking he'd be just another crony-socialist exhibit. His policy and actions proved me wrong. It's a rare find when a politician impresses instead of disappoints.
But if all you TDS chicken-peckers would like to make a point beyond "Orange man bad" I'm all ears.
Something tells me you won't consider any points that go against Trump. Just a hunch.
FYI
Does a chicken have a pecker?
Chicken and egg
Given the absence of a penis, chickens and other land fowl have had to develop a method of fertilisation that does not rely on penetration. Both male and female birds have an orifice known as a cloaca. When the cloacae are touched together, sperm is transferred to the female reproductive tract.
There used to be a commenter here a while back that was obsessed with fighting chickens. A lot of cloaca jokes were made at his expense. Maybe he came back under a new username and now goes by TJJ2000. I don't know, I haven't been around much.
There used to be a commenter here who thought Marxists were close to libertarians.
"Frankly; I’d prefer Trump over DeSantis. "
I agree. Trump is far more entertaining. I can't picture DeSantis boasting about the size of his penis in a debate with fellow republicans. It looks like Mike Pence is out of the running for VP. Who would you recommend?
I have no idea; Anyone who is serious about wanting to restore the US Constitution in the USA and honor their oath of office I guess. LIMITING the Gov-Guns to their respective role in that Constitution. I'm a big fan of Thomas Massie, Rand Paul and Ted Cruz though. But why pull a good Senator. How about John Stossel?
However; his support of the CARES Act was really a disappointment.
There; had to do the thinking for the bird brain chicken-peckers... 🙂
In other news, Donald Trump announces that Joe Biden will win re-election in 2024.
Yes.
LOL
Attendance at Biden's 2020 rally in Arizona - 0.
And yet Trump wasn't able to beat him. Makes you wonder.
But he did beat Hillary, who was describe by Pres. Obama as "I don't think there's ever been someone so qualified to hold this office."
It does make one wonder how Biden managed to find 80M votes when he can't find his pants most days.
Yay. 2 more years of pseudo libertarians arguing against a person instead of policy. Trump makes everyone irrational and act just like him.
No need for objective analysis when you can hate someone instead. At least Sullum has 50+ articles he can go to when out of ideas.
Does Reason realize they are no better than the left, focusing so much energy on him? Who gives a fuck about Trump at the moment? As the state grows, doj attacks political enemies, state media distracts, economy falters, rights are revoked… let’s spend 2 more years talking about Trump.
Your bullshit helps keep him in the spotlight. If you dont like the man, stop fucking talking about him multiple times a day. Stand for your fucking principles for once. Not your value signaling.
Jackass is going to hand the entire fucking government to the progressives. We are well and truly screwed.
I’m seeing hopes with commenters on may conservative sites. There’s a lot of disdain for the guy. I don’t think he’s going to be much of an issue, honestly.
If he loses the nomination you really think he’s just going to ride off quietly. No way. He’ll do whatever he can to cripple the guy that beat him.
He may. I'm just saying there's a lot of disdain against the guy from people in his party. Doesn't mean he can't play spoiler, but that may not be easy for him at this point, either.
It's gonna be fun to watch. Especially if he does it from a cell shared with Joe Exotic.
Beating Hillary shouldn't be a crime.
But it was basically why he was impeached twice.
It had nothing to do with the impeachment charges. They were both for shit he pulled well after the 2016 election.
Sure, whatever you say.
[Washington Times]
Actually, Democrats, along with others, have been talking about impeaching Donald Trump since before he even took office. Since before he was even inaugurated.
There was this racy headline, from Vanity Fair on Nov. 14, 2016: “Will Trump Be Impeached?”
Then this, yet another Vanity Fair piece, on Dec. 15, 2016: “Democrats Are Paving the Way to Impeach Donald Trump.”
There was this, from The New York Times, in an opinion headline from Nov. 3, 2016: “Donald Trump’s Impeachment Threat.”
Remember: Trump wasn’t inaugurated until Jan. 20, 2017. He wasn’t even elected president until Nov. 8, 2016.
Remember, too: The Republican Party primaries didn’t wrap until June 2016. And Trump wasn’t formally nominated at the Republican National Convention as the Republican Party’s candidate for president until July 19, 2016.
Yet Politico, on April 17, 2016, posed this in a headline: “Could Trump be impeached shortly after he takes office?” The piece went on to state that “It’s highly improbable, but everyone from law scholars to political junkies are speculating about it.”
[Politico]
"Constitutional experts of all political stripes say it’s surprising for impeachment talk to bubble up this early—but then Trump has been throwing around some surprising ideas for a leading candidate … And doubtless many of Trump’s foes would like to see him impeached just on principle—the quickest way to broom out a leader who horrifies the inclusive sensibilities of Democrats, and has blown apart the Republican Party he’s nominally part of.
[Breitbart]
"So impeachment was a first resort for Democrats, NeverTrump Republicans, and journalists from the moment it became clear that candidate Trump had a path to win the GOP nomination — even when few of them believed he could actually defeat likely Democratic Party nominee Hillary Clinton and win the presidency in November 2016.
I don’t doubt they had a desire to find something to impeach him over. He supplied something — twice.
I think you are right here. When he loses the nomination he burns the party down.
How?
Similar to the way he cost the Republicans the Senate in 2020. He'll do what he can to suck up all the oxygen in the room and leave as little as possible for the Republican nominee.
I find this statement interesting because isn't not having him also going to alienate a portion of voters too? I mean how do you reconcile the votes lost if he isn't the nominee, is this something that those folks for him would vote for the next candidate you believe unlike the vice versa? I'm just curious how it isn't the progressives if neither side can reconcile because I think it goes the same way if he isn't.
And “I wuz robbed” isn’t a policy. That’s all the SOB talks about any more.
Election fraud is the means by which the Democrats have been pursuing power and money.
Not a single accusation of fraud has been disproven through an audit. Instead they simply hand wave and say “even if there was fraud, it is not enough to have changed the result of the election.”
Funny how the democrats consistently oppose every effort to peek under the sheets.
LOL. You dumb as fuck
Perhaps "simply hand wave" isn't quite the nicety gestures from the commentary (see above).
And with the way many supported their everyone/anything/every-pet can vote to get us here I'm not sure if respectable audits are even possible. Non-the-less ensuring fraud opportunities are eliminated in the future is probably the best course of action. In-Person, Photo ID, Multi-Voting checks done by multiple honorable establishments.
And you're acting just as to what I mentioned. Focused on the talking point du jour regarding the man. This entire thread is.
Whats funny is that even with the election discussion it always falls into false narrative talking points about him instead of reality. Over 2 dozen election suits were found to have shown illegal voting changes. These get glossed over constantly. Thousands of double voters in multiple states. Glossed over.
Because people would rather talk about Trump.
Er, this rather short article was written specifically about Trump's announcement of his re-election campaign.
What would you have said if Reason had not written any article at all?
The answer to a president who is an out of touch old white guy with bad policies and signs of dementia is obviously another out of touch old white guy with bad policies and signs of dementia.
"another out of touch old white guy with bad policies"
What Trump policies were bad?
USMCA? Abraham Accords? DPRK rapproachment? Stopping illegal immigration? The First Step Act? Deregulation?
This is Nice ????
I think youre showing signs of the other TDS. Trump Denial Syndrome.
The lrimary symptoms is interpreting Trumps actions and policies in a positive light...
Though I do agree DeSantis likely isn't the date we want for prom.
"symptoms is interpreting Trumps actions and policies in a positive light"
Which ones were bad? Do you have an example? I listed a few above. Is it a mistake to look at his antiwar and trade policies in a positive light? Like announcing unilateral withdrawal from Germany and Afghanistan, or replacing NAFTA?

McConnell: "We underperformed among independents and moderates because their impression of many of the people in our party is that they're involved in chaos, negative, excessive attacks and it frightened independent and moderate Republican voters."

Methinks you spend too much time on Twitter...
Lotta concern trolls worried about the GOP, or are they pissed that they have to wait to wail on Florida man bad?
If Florida man is smart, he will sit out 2024 and let Orange Goblin self-immolate.
Hmm, that’s an interesting take.
He could bide his time concentrating on doing a good job as governor.
Holy shit, even Eunuch returns (or just switches back to its original name) to join the collective of hate
The irony truly being those that claim to be neutral and not leftists always dragging the conversation to be about Trump and the narratives around him.
I'm not a big fan, since he cranked government spending up to 11 and failed to drain the swamp. But he's 10 times better than the current prez.
But really, they're both way too old to be president.
I was getting on the DeSantis bandwagon until I heard about his Bush family ties, and that McConnell and Cheney are fans. Now I'm a little worried.
I would be interested in hearing some of Desantis’ foreign policy ideas. Anyone who isn’t going to try and de-escalate the military situation or try and break us out of The Green Leap Forward suicide pact with Europe, isn’t actual opposition to anything.
If some Republican congressman don’t at least try before 2024, then we know we weren’t missing anything anyway.

Why are Bill Gates & Klaus Schwab at the G20? No one voted for them. And anyone who asks this question should not be dismissed as a conspiracy theorist. It’s a totally legitimate question to ask.
Stop peddling crackpot conspiracy theories about loony international agendas that are totally out in the open and easily searchable on official UN websites!
So many people just refuse to believe their own lying eyes, thus aid those sinister forces.
"But we just need to vote harder!"
https://twitter.com/JebBushJr/status/1592710595450925058?t=ql4n1MQ8BDFsn7WV2wpJoA&s=19
WOW! What a low energy speech by the Donald.
Time for new leaders!
At least if putting me to bed, add some policy, real ideas, and solutions to the problems facing our great country. Leadership that unites
I'm actually surprised he really did this. He's smart enough to know he'll never be allowed to win, and I figured he wouldn't want to be seen as a loser no matter how obviously rigged the game.
Will be interesting to see how it all ends. But better to die on one's feet than live on one's knees.
Oh gods. Two more years of his crap, at least. On the bright side, Biden v. Trump round two could give the Libertarian Party another huge boost.
Sure it will.
Maybe try to avoid a postmodern nazi candidate this time though.
"Bake the cake" and "its not enough to not be racist, we MUST be actively antiracist" aren't liberty advancing slogans.
In fact, they're the exact opposite.
The LP is too busy crumbling from within.
The national LP is now posting anti-Semitic memes on the LP website. WTF.
Haha forget what I said. The two responses above show that internal divisions among libertarians will continue to divide us into uselessness. Both sides accusing the other of being Nazis, great.
Neither of us are libertarians, though Laursen calls itself one in an attempt to gaslight.
Woke = postmodern nazism.
It's an identitarian ethos that denies the individual as anything more than an interchangeable subunit of abstract identity classes, and seeks to explain all circumstances as the result of those identity classes, which are either villains or victims.
Jo Jorgenson is not woke, is not progressive, and is not a Nazi. Anyone saying such nonsense doesn't know anything about her or her long history in the libertarian movement.
The biggest benefit goes to the Reason staff, who were worried about what they would write about for the next 2 years.
We all know what they were going to write, "Florida Man Bad" "Don't say Gay", "Martha's Vineyard immigration stunt" etc, etc.
Now they have to dredge up their old articles on "Orange Man Bad"
And CNN, MSNBC, ABC/NBC/CBS, PBS, NPR, NYT and almost all other major newspapers, the Atlantic, Salon, Facebook, Twitter...also Fox, OAN, Newsmax, ...
"The former president will seek a second term, despite continuing to insist he already won one in 2020."
Haha, yeah, "No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice..."
-22nd Amendment
What's his answer going to be if he's asked, "You won in 2016, and you claim to have won in 2020. The 22nd Amendment prevents a candidate from being elected to the office twice. By your own rationale, you are now running for your third term. How do you square that?"
Serving, not elected.
Genco thought this was clever.
Man, the fools are really determined to prove their stupidity.
The right-wing-o-sphere needs to start working on a “re-election was stolen from Grover Cleveland” conspiracy theory.
Will the LP put up someone I can vote for?
Or will they put up someone like Gary "I agree with Bernie Sanders 73% of the time" Johnson, Bill "I used to be a gun grabber, but I've changed, no really, I've changed" Weld, and Jo "I support BLM" Jorgenson?
I don't want to vote for Trump again, but if I have to choose between PaPa Joe, Trump, and a Bernie Sanders wanna-be, I'm pretty sure I will be able to hold my nose and do so again in an effort to prevent Papa Joe (or K Harris or H Clinton or whichever Democrat might be up) from wreaking their particular kind of havoc.
For the R's, let's hope that the Trump fad has passed and a more suitable candidate is found. And for the L's, do the same: find a good set of candidates so I can support them.
Describe "a more suitable candidate".
I'm curious what yall really expect.
It seems you just want the status quo, but with your heads buried in the sand.
LP presidential candidates have been generally awful over the years, but in Jo’s defense all she did was attend a candlelight vigil.
I think this is a strategy to get as much money as quickly as possible. Trump will rake in as much money as he can, because his popularity is on the decline. He has also shown an unwillingness to listen to his lawyers and may be under the delusion that he can stop an indictment or could fight an indictment by being a candidate. I don't think either will work. I think any prosecutor with a possible indictment will be looking at the merits of their case and not on whether Trump is a candidate.
I do wonder what the odds of Desantis running in 2024 are. I hope high. He'll have my primary vote. I thought Oz vs Strokebrain was the visual of the end of the republic, but watching another Trump/Biden debate might be as bad a visual.
Trump is old as fuck, and a lot of the country, including many that voted for him, are growing tired of this dance.
Its time to pass the torch to some young blood that has a fucking set and is willing to fight.
Fight what?
The left wing insanity ruining the country
"Everything is fine, we just need proper Top Men"
You dont think Desantis would do a good job?
And is your counter argument just "well, not your top man, my top man!"
No, I don't think ANYONE who doesn't tear it all down will do a good job.
Their are no rules, only weapons.
At this point in time, in the current conditions we face, I think Trump is probably the best weapon available.
If DeSantis, or Scott or Paul, were to win election in 2024- what then?
What's fixed/gained without all out war?
To be honest --- Trump did not tear it down when he had the chance. He listened to bad advice and made terrible hires (again, Chris Wray? Trump appointed him). DeSantis does not seem to have really done either.
You're 100% correct about that.
The hope is that he'll have learned from his first experience. He won't be completely new to the scene, and shouldn't be as naive as he was when he trusted the wrong people to help him navigate.
Another thing is he wouldn't have to worry about reelection. I think this is what scared, and scares, the swamp most. Several errors he made I'd attribute to caution with an eye on getting elected again after term 1. That wouldn't be an issue in T2.
We'll see.
We're in immense peril and may be too far gone to get out.
Trump is no savior. He's a weapon.
Great. Another two fucking years of retarded Sullum articles about Trump.
Surely, forcing you to read them is against the Geneva Conventions or something?
Some of us subscribed to Reason for years, and even looked forward to Sullum’s articles. We’re entitled to an equal investment of hate reading/mockery now that Reason has jumped the shark.
And a bunch of fascists cried out in joy!
There is pretty much no understanding of fascism that wouldn't include the modern democratic party. Unless you are confused as to how fascism has historically manifested.
The nation's intelligence services and law enforcement put a thumb on the scale against Trump from 2016-2020--to take but one example, a Logan Act investigation into Flynn?
That cannot be denied, and all of Trump's comments and actions need to be taken in that context.
https://twitter.com/martyrmade/status/1592887230624067584?t=-3xJoXFvBYkyo_oMTRKGMw&s=19
All populist movements and third parties rely on voter enthusiasm as their engine for success. The post-COVID changes in voting rules are designed to take voter enthusiasm off the table, and to make elections a measure of which side has the most robust ground organization.
Mistake . . . Unless
Should he remain alive, a senescent Donald Trump seeking the presidency in 2024 is a mistake. A mistake for Trump. For the Republican Party. For the nation.
Over the years, Trump's behavior suggests a severe narcissistic temperament. His personal behavior alienated many voters including Republicans. His goal to have crushed the Administrative State was admirable. He failed. His choice of advisors was abominable. Jared and Ivanka?
Trump's seeking the presidency again is a gift to the Democratic Party, provided it nominates someone like Joe Manchin not John Federman. It solidifies and energizes the Democrats while splitting the Republicans. The consequences likely will be a repeat of 2020.
In July 2020, this commentator on his website predicted Trump's defeat in November. With this posting, he now predicts Trump's defeat in 2024. So it was. So it will be . . . unless.

“Believing is seeing, but seeing is not believing.” -drawn from John 11
There could be a charade ongoing, however. Trump attacks "Di Sanctimonious"; thereby, allowing Di Santis to distance himself from the rump of Trump later when Trump bows out. A clever ploy?
This comment rejected by The Wall Street Journal.

Hmm, one has to wonder what Melania thinks of Trump’s announcement.
Here she was, out of the public eye, relaxing at the Mar-a-Lago spa or whatever she does all day. Donald was off flying around on this private jet to rallies all over the country accompanied by his young lawyer, Alina Habba, who has started dressing and wearing her hair like Melania and Trump’s ex wives.
Now Melania has to go back out on the campaing trail with Donald and be under continual public scrutiny. Oh, boy! Fun!
https://www.yahoo.com/news/not-happy-melania-could-drag-065225676.html
“’I don’ [sic] think she has any intention of being on the campaign trail,’ Bennett said.
“In even more bad news for the former president, Trump’s daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner have ‘zero interest’ in helping with campaigning, in sharp contrast to their enthusiastic support last time around, said Bennett.”
From the ICD-10-CM: "... life-threatening derangement of Homo republicanus, etiology uncertain. May have originated when these paleo-hominids raised themselves onto their back legs, stood upright and stayed that way, some 40+ years ago. In consequence they seriously weakened their spines and disrupted their digestive systems. Or so the theory runs (N.B. and has yet to be outrun). Gravity exerted its pull on the intestines. In response, bands would develop at crucial junctures (e.g. 1994, 2010, 2016). These bands, or kinks, are a huge problem. They cause chronic intestinal stasis (aka permanent constipation). That leads to the build up of feces in the small intestine. When that happens, toxins leak into the blood stream, and noxious flatus obscures all attempts at coherent speech. Autointoxication is the result. And autointoxication, according to William Arbuthnot Trump (1856–1943), was “the cause of all the chronic diseases of civilization.” Trump’s Kink is the most instructive of all these pernicious and debilitating disorders, as it demonstrates how difficult they are to correct. Not even the DeSantis Radical Trumpectomy is guaranteed to eradicate the defect. For unfathomable reasons it seems to recur at regular 4-year intervals, probably arising anew from a metastatic locus inferior to Mason and Dixon’s Delineation. It is likely that only the Garland-James Sequestration & Defenestration maneuver (currently in clinical trials) holds out any real hope of a cure to the many millions of sufferers.
Poor, dimwitted soy.

It can't meme.
Well, he's been Democrat, Republican, and Independent ... which party is he making a mess of this time ?
