Brickbat: School Disciplinarian

In Michigan, Rochester Community Schools Superintendent Robert Shaner admitted the school system monitored the social media of parents who protested school officials' decision to keep schools closed. Shaner also admitted contacting the employers of some of those parents and calling the police on one parent who called for protests outside private homes, saying he regarded that as a threat. Shaner's admissions came in a deposition in a lawsuit brought by parents. One of those parents, Elena Dinverno, said she was fired after school officials falsely told her employer she was part of a group threatening the school system.

And that's how you educate children.
One thing Orwell got wrong in 1984 was how children had become “ungovernable little savages” who still remained fiercely loyal to the Party, dutifully reporting any questionable word from their parents. Nowadays the Spies don’t have to be children, but the children’s educators, who are part of the government. They’ve succeeded in cutting out the middleman while still accomplishing the goal of having little savages and tinpot local dictators keeping the frightened regular folks in line.
To be fair, while Orwell imagined the modern surveillance state, I doubt he foresaw the extent of the technology we now how that makes it so much easier.

No one was watching the Olympics.

Too soon?
Didn't Mark Twain say something about school boards?
God's practice for making idiots, I believe.
“In the first place, God created idiots. That was for practice. Then he made school boards."
Ouch! Take THAT paddling!!
True story: In the 1920s/30s my Grandaddy was a textbook salesman. He’d travel around the country selling to local school boards. One way he goes in good graces with them was to bring cases of booze as gifts—especially in dry counties. Once, he made a return trip to a certain Utah County where the school board was always, er, especially eager to welcome him. This time he stopped to grab a bite before meeting with thrm. Turns out the venerable school board members grew impatient, smashed in a window of his car and grabbed the hooch. (I think they reimbursed him for the window)

Dear Á àß äẞç ãþÇđ âÞ¢Đæ ǎB€Ðëf ảhf,
Please cast your mind back to February.28.2022 at 10:09 am, when you said "Just about every brickbat is unconfirmed. Why does this one need extra confirmation before it qualifies as a brickbat?" then see that here we, in fact, have a deposition from a school superintendent. Then kindly go fuck yourself.
Sincerely,
mad.casual
Don't protest at people's homes, that is obnoxious, but calling the the police on people who have done nothing illegal except to talk about protesting against you, is a special kind of entitled.
Agreed on protesting at people’s homes. Also getting into people’s faces while they’re trying to eat at restaurants. All of that rises (stoops?) to the level of “who raised you?!”
Having made the admission, the school board must suspend the practice
Qualified Immunity!
For the children!
Thanks for providing us with this useful article.

I'm not against getting in peoples faces. They should be scared.
I can hold you down and screw you in the butt. If you complain and get in my face about it, you are being uncivil!
