Biden to GOP: 'Get Out of the Way, So You Don't Destroy' the Country
The President's inaugural "unity" rhetoric has given way to apocalyptic condemnation.

President Joe Biden Monday accused Republicans of wanting to "destroy" the country. No really, that's what he said, then tweeted out the video for emphasis:
My message to Republicans: If you don't want to help save the country, get out of the way. pic.twitter.com/5Um4dL0XO8
— Joe Biden (@JoeBiden) October 5, 2021
Such apocalyptic, condemnatory rhetoric has become increasingly common for a president whose inaugural-address theme was "unity, not division." Last month, for example, Biden accused Republican governors of "playing politics with the lives of their citizens, especially children," and "doing everything they can to undermine the public health requirements that keep people safe" from COVID-19.
In contravention of his inaugural promise to "stop the shouting, and lower the temperature," the president this week is hyperbolizing his twin infrastructure/social-spending bills on Capitol Hill as nothing short of an "inflection point" in "world history," after which—if we don't choose correctly, and fast—America as we know it may soon be lapped by China and Russia.
"First I want to set one thing straight," Biden said Tuesday at a union training facility in Howell, Michigan. "These bills are not about left versus right or moderate versus progressive or anything that pits Americans against one another. These bills are about competitiveness versus complacency. They're about opportunity versus decay. They're about leading the world or continuing to let the world pass us by, which is literally happening."
Having rejected pitting Americans against one another, the president then suggested that Americans who vote against his legislative agenda are dooming the country.
"To support these investments is to create a rising America, America that's moving," he said. "And to oppose these investments is to be complicit in America's decline. To support these bills is to pursue a broader vision of our nation. And to oppose them is to accept a very cramped view of our future."
Every president preaches unity with his mouth while using his hands to stab political competitors; such incentives are inherent to the job. As is rhetorical hyperinflation of his domestic agenda. (Though equating the fate of the infrastructure bill as the "moment where history is going to look back on this time as a fundamental choice that had to be made between democracies and autocracies" does seem a bit much.)
But these bully pulpit degradations, rightly criticized during the stressful, norms-shredding term of Donald Trump, have not been abandoned in Trump's aftermath. Biden may have said in his inaugural that "we have to be different than this," that we need to "listen to one another," to "hear one another," to "see one another," and "show respect to one another," and to "reject a culture in which facts themselves are manipulated and even manufactured," but once the ceremonial speechwriting gave way to Capitol Hill negotiations, the gloves quickly came off.
Among the facts being manipulated and even manufactured this week by the president is that "The cost of these bills, in terms of adding to the deficit, is zero. Zero. Zero." Which has zero relationship with truth. Another one is that "We haven't passed a major infrastructure bill for decades in this country." Former President Barack Obama just 12 years ago called the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act "the largest new investment in our nation's infrastructure since Eisenhower built an Interstate Highway System in the 1950s."
Such whoppers are thus far not prompting the cable news chyron-writers to control-V the go-to Trump-era phrase of "claims without evidence," nor are they triggering the kind of indignant journalistic outrage that greeted the comparatively minor transgressions of Paul Ryan back when the once-viable Wisconsonian was running for vice president.
Part of that treatment disparity can be attributed to ideological tilt, but don't sleep on the sheer unbeatableness of the 45th president's compulsive dishonesty. "A good rule of thumb with Trump," Jacob Sullum wrote one year ago, "is that the truth is exactly the opposite of whatever he says….Trump's utter disdain for the truth, combined with his mercurial nature and complete lack of principles, makes it impossible to have a rational conversation with him."
And Biden still has an impossible mountain to climb when it comes to topping Trump's willingness to toss around words like "treasonous," and "un-American" and "enemy" when describing fellow Americans.
But prudent self-governance suggests more than just shrugging at bad politician behavior on grounds that his competitor was worse. The ends don't justify the means is not a moral insight limited to one side of a given political contest.
The biggest and most offputting reveal during the rise, reign, and continued influence of Trumpism within the GOP has been the extent to which even seasoned politicos have ditched principle and philosophical mooring for whatever it takes to produce or emulate #Winning against the hated libs. When conservatives ditched a half-century of media deregulation for the chance to smash Trump's media and Silicon Valley enemies in the mouth, that was a telltale sign that a corrosive, will-to-power right-illiberalism was on the march, fueled by the literal fight-or-flight analogy of elections as Flight 93.
Now that Democrats have regained power, so has their appetite for picking up the whipping stick against the domestic enemies within. Packing the Supreme Court, scrapping the filibuster, using federal health agencies to override residential property rights—all and more are on the table. And like Trump vs. the initially un-housebroken Freedom Caucus back in the early days of his presidency, special hellfire is reserved for any same-team stragglers not getting with the program.
So: It's not just a right but an obligation to "bully" Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D–Ariz.) outside a bathroom stall. And as for Sen. Joe Manchin (D–W.Va.), well, did you know that "he just cooked the planet," and not even in "a metaphorical sense," but "literally"? The things you learn from reading music magazines….
The Republican Party, meanwhile, "is becoming an armed insurgency in the United States, and it is absolutely terrifying," if you believe MSNBC's go-to intelligence guru Malcolm Nance, as prodded this week by a nodding Joy-Ann Reid. (In a marvelously tail-chasing flourish, Nance also warned about the Trumpist right's fondness for Mussolini's Blackshirts, then complained: "They know they're fascists, they know they're supporting white nationalist goals, they know that by using these terms in a way that their supporters approve of they can actually get away with calling liberals 'Nazis.' It's absolutely fascinating." Quite.)
The main problem with so many people treating politics like a life-or-death struggle against an internal enemy is that so many people will treat politics like a life-or-death struggle against an internal enemy. Which is to say, the massive levers of state power are more likely to be used against innocent Americans in violation of their constitutional rights. Individuals who work to write or enforce those laws will be more likely to mistreat wide swaths of the population like criminals. These are not trend lines you should want to see go up.
The temptations of populism do not vanish with the vanquishing of this or that populist politician. Apocalypticism is no less lunatic when hollered by the sympathetic. I was happy to see Trump go, and will be happier still when a president or even his/her entire party sees the state's coercive power as something to be devolved or dismantled, not aggrandized and concentrated. We're not getting to a healthier politics until more people start unilaterally putting down the club, and managing to navigate their policy disagreements without accusing the other side of being in league with the Sweet Meteor of Death.
The debt ceiling will be raised, some version of the must-pass cromnibus will be passed, and we'll be finding brand new reasons to call each other Nazis a few months from now. Maybe next time more of us should instead touch grass.

They're working on new lies to justify the 'bothsides' bullshit; see Brandyshit's posts.
Exactly!
Mormons love Ayn Rand be a they’re so selfish.
*because
Not be a
Fail on every level.
Shut up dildo
For a guy who just stepped on his dick, you're pretty feisty. I'll give you that
With her handle, I'm guessing she punched herself in the puss. No pecker to step on.
Selfish? They tithe at least 10% of their income. Not like you filthy progs. You’re always the stingiest motherfuckers in the room. A leftist did a study on chritiabke giving by political orientation and religion. Religious conservatives gave the most. People like you have the least.
Your idea of generosity is to take other people’s money at gunpoint and use it to buy votes and pay back your cronies. So really, fuck you with your Mormon trash talk. The worst Mormon is still a million times better than you,
Their tithes go to evil causes. Sending missionaries around the world to trick and force their BS on everyone. Most of it they use to overpay their leaders and hoard in SLC. They spent millions on CA prop 8.
I’m glad a traitor like you doesn’t like me. A lot of religious conservatives “charity” is the same “charity” as Mormons.
Oh if only the contributions went to killing children, errr unformed clumps of cells, even after they are out of the uterus. Wait, isn't that what Democrats do with tax money? Yes. Yes it is.
No need to donate when you've stolen the bread from the mouths of productive citizenry.
Personally, I believe women should be free of the state telling them they cannot kill their babies, or get jabbed. Their body - their choice.
The left should simply be honest and stop pretending they aren't killing babies.
The only thing wrong with Biden is that he isn't tough enough. You can't have "unity" if one side is not interested and the rRpublicans aren't.
What they are interested in as overthrowing the government of the United States and installing Donald Trump. We are nearing an existential crisis and what Biden said is absolutely correct and we ignore this at our peril.
The hypocrisy immorality and utter
degeneracy of the Republican party is now complete and beyond repair. You don't have to be a liberal to see that; I am not one.
The trump mob has stated publicly they wanted to destroy the country so what's your problem reason
I love Joe Biden's tough talk performative garbage. It's honestly very entertaining at this point as you know there is no substance behind it. It's just a schtick like "c'mon, man!"
Joe Biden is an urbane intellectual compared to the Adderall addicted, sex fiend Drumpf!
True, but that’s not saying much. Biden has no idea what unity means.
It's kind of like "teamwork is everybody doing what I say"
Like I told the bosses who sent us rank-and-file on a two day tree-climbing morale-building team spirit exercise, then stopped by to gawk at us ... you guys think "team" means we're the mule team and you're the guys with the whip. Meanwhile we get two days vacation in the woods. Who's the smart ones?
Reminds me of the 30 Rock episode where management goes on the "retreat to move forward".
Teamwork doesn't have an I but it does have a me. So teamwork is what me say.
There's no "we" in team!
Goooo meat!
Biden and Democrat leadership think this *is*unity. In their minds everyone in the country wants this except the 262 Republican members of Congress
Same thing with mask and vaccine mandates. Everyone in the country wants turn except those 27 Republican governors
"the 'moment where history is going to look back on this time as a fundamental choice that had to be made between democracies and autocracies'
Well it is, but not why he thinks.
Nailed that.
Mike responds to a parody with "True". Wow.
Dumber than expected.
Someone’s not paying attention.
This is what you’ve worked for Mike. How does it feel?
Trump is far more eloquent than Biden when he wants to be. Granted, that isn’t saying much. Since Biden is a subnormal buffoon who is suffering from long term complications form two serious aneurysm surgeries, and advancing age related dementia. Stupid progs had upwards of two dozen primary candidates, and this is the best they could do?
It’s Biden, and his Marxist handlers that need to get out of the way.
we need to take a moment to consider how skeptically the press took Biden's statements.
Did any reflect the general take in the comments here?
Biden was the only one unethical and dishonest enough to go along with rigging the election. The big guy knows no fear when it comes to corruption.
Hey I have some stickers I can let you have cheap. They say, Don't blame me, I didn't vote for Biden. Biden voters are buying them up quick to cover their Biden bumper stickers and signs. If you're interested don't think about it for too long.
It's especially hilarious considering that without all his protection, this half-dead old asshole would get his ice cream cone shoved right up his ass in a hot minute.
Not a joke.
What Joe Biden actually means: "Get out of the way so I can destroy the country."
Actually that was my first take on the headline.
The Republicans have clearly stated that they have no desire to vote for a debt limit increase. If the Democrats can not find enough votes to pass the bill it will be 100% the Democrats fault.
The only thing we can do it vote Democrat in the midterms and hope that a supermajority in Congress allows the Democrats to raise taxes on the rich and upper middle class, increase COVID-2023 restrictions, and enact federal laws that allow for permanent usage of remote learning for school teachers and pupils.
And don't forget the establishment of re-education camps for the tens of millions of insurrectionists in the country.
And then do away with voting to streamline the legislative process and save some more money for gender counseling.
Not to mention all the money we can save by not printing all those ballot things, and all the effort wasted on campaigning and stuff.
Just get Zuckerberg to run an algorithm and tell us who won the election.
Don't forget to get the guns.
By evolving definition [now includes gadflies at school board meetings, or just anyone who askes too many questions] there are more every day! OMG, do something about this real and present danger!
As it would be. You know, the whole "running the government" thing. Also, kinda lame to expect your rivals who you ignored when proposing these insane spending bills to help you protect yourself from the inevitable outcome.
You know who ELSE voted against debt ceiling increases?
Hitler?
Too soon!
+1, Board In-joke Manipulation, both a ya.
Al “molester” Franken?
Michelangelo?
Oh, because of the Pristine Chapel, right?
Wait no, that’s the one Dali painted (per Annie Wilkes)
Mr. President, I rise
today to talk about America’s debt
problem.
The fact that we are here today to
debate raising America’s debt limit is a
sign of leadership failure. It is a sign
that the U.S. Government can’t pay its
own bills. It is a sign that we now depend
on ongoing financial assistance
from foreign countries to finance our
Government’s reckless fiscal policies.
Over the past 5 years, our federal
debt has increased by $3.5 trillion to
$8.6 trillion. That is ‘‘trillion’’ with a
‘‘T.’’ That is money that we have borrowed
from the Social Security trust
fund, borrowed from China and Japan,
borrowed from American taxpayers.
And over the next 5 years, between now
and 2011, the President’s budget will increase
the debt by almost another $3.5
trillion.
...
Increasing America’s debt weakens
us domestically and internationally.
Leadership means that ‘‘the buck stops
here.’’ Instead, Washington is shifting
the burden of bad choices today onto
the backs of our children and grandchildren.
America has a debt problem
and a failure of leadership. Americans
deserve better.
I therefore intend to oppose the effort
to increase America’s debt limit.
[Sen. Obama]
They have the votes. They just don't want to do it through reconciliation.
They want a second set of prints on the knife
^ This
The FBI is in their pocket. They can get an extra set of prints whenever they want.
They can get you a toe. With or without polish.
yeah, if the 1.2 trillion dollar infrastructure bill is so vital for America's future, why did so many Progressive Dems vow to vote against it last week?
They hate bridges.
And how did we survive the last 2 centuries without this sort of spending?
We didn't, trip traveled back in time and killed everyone with wu flu, we are all figmint of someone's imagination
A very real possibility is that we all died, and this is hell.
Nominated for cheerful thought for the day!
Have you ever considered that the debt limit shouldn't be raised and the government should be implementing massive austerity measures immediately? The national debt is already beyond a year's worth of GDP. Whether it's via hyperinflation to print off our debt or sky high taxation to cover just the interest on our debt we are already looking at a very painful future with considerably lower standards of living.
Why in the hell would we exasperate the problem by raising the debt ceiling? That's like a bartender giving a pitcher to a drunk who already can't see straight.
You are assuming we intended to pay off the debt with money.
Or at all.
Personally, I assume our government is like somebody who's decided to stiff their creditors, and is just spending as much as they can before the creditors figure it out.
"...I assume our government is like somebody who’s decided to stiff their creditors..."
Which would nuke confidence in the USD, but if you're already planning on replacing it...
Kamala is willing to put her forearms flat on a desk to pay off the debt.
Yes. This is what's being done. Framing it as if not raising the debt ceiling is the bad thing and ignoring the possibility of spending within our means.
Debt spending is how we tax the middle class. With wage stagnation.
The debt will be hyperinflated away. This has been coming since the Nixon administration.
-jcr
Well, about time. I've only been predicting this for 25 years.
I think back in the Nixon era, this was more of an argument-stopper, kind of a "Who cares? If X, then Y." thing.
We did the tiniest possible "austerity" under Obama and the left and media (I repeat myself, I know) behaved as if we were lopping off the heads of born babies.
Not unborn ones. That'd be cool. Only born baby beheadings.
Pelosi and crew lead this cry everytime anyone mentions slowing the rate of growth of spending.
When has there ever been an ACTUAL reduction in spending from one year to the next? The increases are built-in so even reducing the increases is framed as a cut but the Democrats and the media, but I repeat myself.
As a progressive libertarian, I salute President Biden for working to ensure every American family has free childcare. With the federal government supporting working families, the economy is guaranteed to be supercharged with the additional of millions of working mothers to the labor force. Additionally, the IRS will be allowed to hire significantly more agents to ensure Republican "charities" and "non-profits" are following the tax laws. #BuildBackBetter
You have an oxymoron in the first four words, and it was downhill after that into a steaming pile of wtf.
woooosh.
Poe's law gets a real workout in these forums
Fuck Poe?
Agreed - but I believe the Rabbi is being satirical. Actually, I'm too dim to know if "parody" or "satire" is the appropriate label.
The point being, the Rabbi is a flaming proggo idiot for comedic value.
free? how the fuck is it free when you're stealing my money to pay for it. you're no libertarian. you just another america hating libtard.
So how's the parody schtick go'n Rabbi?
Still got a bone for AOC, or was that supposed to be parody too?
Do you ever read or watch Chris Hedges? While I don't totally agree with everything he stands for his assessment of where we are today is spot on. If you were to consider the fact that Biden was the golden boy of the elite then maybe you would consider that you opinion is a farce and simply crumbs given to people who in essence do not have any real freedom.
Fuck Joe Biden. Fuck Donald Trump. Fuck Jo Jorgenson. I voted for Vermin Supreme.
BLOCKED! Hate has no home here.
Homos have no hate here.
Brandy, you know how fake this comes across since you only add the Biden part after whining about people doing it for weeks right? You're as dishonest as the other liberaltarians here.
WE got what Brandyshit deserves.
Fuck Joe Biden
Fuck Joe Biden
Fuck Matt Welch too. Biden shits the bed and this guy can't write a column without descending into TRUMP, TRUMP, TRUMP.
Really, this articles' two-paragraph descent into both-side-ism was as gratuitous as any we've yet seen.
"So, what the Dems are doing is corrupt, destructive and illogical...and here's how TRUMP made them do it!!"
Fuck. It's as if Welch (and Gillespie) said "Let's act like libertarians would act if they threw out all principles and instead just 'kind of believed in individual freedom', but not rabidly, not like, cocktail-party-invite-threatening level."
Fuck Joe Biden
Funny story, I commented "Let's go Brandon" on a Yahoo finance board the other day and they rejected it.
"Goes against community standards", so at least they are brighter than the NBC viewers out there.
This mother fucker pedo hair sniffer needs to get the fuck up out of the way of Americans living their lives.
His whole party needs to go. We’re past talking, debating, or negotiation. They just need to walk away.
At the end of the day I don’t really care if they ride out of town on their horse, or slung over the back of it. They just need to be gone.
How’s Spokane traitor?
So so. You haven’t committed suicide yet? That’s a shame. By the way, as a patriot, I’m incapable of treason. As a prog, you commit treason with every breath you take. So perhaps you should breathe no more.
What makes you think I’m a prof?
You supported and continue to support an attempted coup. That’s treason you un-American scumbag.
Patriotic guy supported the 0blama people, along with the "intelligence" services, the deep state, and HiLIARY trying to get Donald Trump out of his legitimately won office?
Shame on him.
No he supports Trump overturning the results of the 2020 election.
He also supports murdering everyone who isn’t a Trump worshipping traitor like him.
Going through the impeachment process isn’t a coup because you’re using a constitutional process.
Good thing you deleted all of your Russian Collusion posts before you found a map to the moral highground.
Goddamn, you’re pathetic.
Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery.
And fuck Joe Biden
By "destroy the country", he means the collateral damage when he conducts high altitude bombing raids on 'red' jurisdictions. At least, I assume that's what he's talking about, after he threatened to nuke Americans if they didn't knuckle under, back in June.
I musta missed that. Can you provide a cite?
Fuck off Dee.
You were busy spamming the lie about a fire extinguisher.
White Mike in action
As far as I can sea, lion is what White Mike does.

No Joe is your classic Reddit/Dem Underground/etc poster who was linked here back in early September. He displayed all the standard conceits of an Echo Chamber Prog used to just making conclusory arguments that everyone agreed with in their long attack against GOP strawmen in their heads.
Chemjeff and Mike at least show some awareness that those arguments don't work here.
Biden: Insurrectionists 'need nukes' to take on US government
I love this bit: "The Second Amendment, from the day it was passed, limited the type of people who could own a gun and what type of weapon you could own. You couldn't buy a cannon."
Is this guy for real? You totally could buy a cannon. Didn't anybody tell him that?
Yes, but he forgot in the five minutes between when he heard and when he spoke about it.
Why would they tell him that? Biden lies every bit as much and as boldly as Trump, yet mysteriously even the forehead slappers draw no ire from the media nor contradiction from the bureaucracy.
"The essential English leadership secret does not depend on particular intelligence. Rather, it depends on a remarkably stupid thick-headedness. The English follow the principle that when one lies, it should be a big lie, and one should stick to it. They keep up their lies, even at the risk of looking ridiculous."
I will let you guess which master of propaganda said that.
That’s it? Takes some spinning to turn that into “he threatened to nuke Americans if they didn’t knuckle under”.
Joe Biden says Americans need F15s and nuclear weapons if they want to be able to take on the military. He implies he is ready to genocide more than 100 million of his own citizens in a confrontation.
Of course he wouldnt have the guts for that. Thats why the 2nd Amendment works and is so important. With the 2nd Amendment in place, genocide is the only option for a tyrannical government to even have a hope of winning a naive open confrontation scenario. The 2nd Amendment IS the reason such scenarios are naive today.
Yes, he implied what Brett said.
Joe Biden says Americans need F15s and nuclear weapons if they want to be able to take on the military.
Sure. But you can disrupt the chain of command with nothing but a single Carcano Model 38.
You Rethuglicans still think you can defeat the US military with your penis compensating AK-15s? You would need nuclear weapons or at least a functioning air force to challenge the authority of the US government!
I certainly hope you’re being sarcastic, given the recent developments in Afghanistan.
Wtf is an AK-15?
An AK chambered in .223?
More seriously, Rabbi Harvey up there should be read through the same set of glasses as OBL.
"An AK chambered in .223?"
Already exists. AK-74
Nope. The AK-74 is in 5.45 Combloc, with a smaller bullet and shorter case than .223/5.56 NATO.
Ok, but if we are going to get that precise then .223 and 5.56 are likewise not identical.
He's not all that bad but he ain't OBL.
And he's got a thing for AOC. That is truly disgusting.
Come on, man...you wouldn't at least hate fuck her? I'd hesitate on getting blown, though...that horse-inspired grille could do some damage.
Worth a good laugh, is what.
Democrat fun control politician used that term. He is mocking them with parody.
And gun control.
Ironically, you weren't actually *wrong* with the first one...
There actually is an AK-15.
Kalashnikov AK-12 and AK-15 assault rifle (Russia)
They made a baby?
I call force fields for my side! So now YOU can’t call force fields for any lefties. So none of your weapons will have any effect. I also pre emptively call do overs as needed. So you can’t do that either.
That's what I assumed was in the works after Gen Milley referenced "needing to learn about 'white rage'" a few weeks ago: using our military against American citizens.
Been kind of obvious since they've started emphasizing "loyalty", as if the oaths to country weren't adequate; and pretending Gadsden flag, Pepe, and meme savvy posters are de facto disloyal.
And I suppose they are: Disloyalty to Biden, the DNC, and the race-and-gender grifters who've infested the bowels of the body politic. (ewww!)
Matt Welch writes confusingly.
Confusingly, writes Welch, Matt.
Yeah he writes in loops and repetitions that are hard to follow and not very........good.
He's trying to reconcile his vote. Give him room.
Unpossible
Jerkoff writers here are incapable of shame.
No meat culpas will be forthcoming.
Meat culpas sound delicious.
As opposed to soyrry culpas.
So it's NOT just me then.
A lot of it I feel like I'm missing something I'm supposed to know, but he won't tell me.
You guys read the stories?
I put as much effort into reading them as they do writing them.
You win the thread
It's managing editors all the way down.
What stories?
You have to read it in an old cat lady voice. "I'm watching my stories!"
Then apply that Welch's strange rambling about Trump.
I’m here for the pictures.
That scolding, wagging finger and smarmy sneer makes me damn sick!
I only get Reason for the pictures, honest, Mom!
Well, have you heard him host the Roundtable podcast. It’s the same when he’s talking.
I think having the media consistently demonizing conservatives has given Democrats the impression that they can say whatever they want about Republicans and the press will cover for them.
https://mobile.twitter.com/mattwelch/status/1102654202545913857?s=12
2022 is sure gonna flabbergast them.
Being fortified as we speak.
Psi variant ftw!
"It's becoming very clear that, in response to the {TBD} crisis, elections will have to be delayed, until at least {TBD}."
~Pres. Harris, July, 2022
Well, the press will cover for them, so how are they wrong about that?
Fuck Biden
Fuck Joe Biden
Fuck Jill Biden....I mean Dr. Jill Biden. May as well be equal opportunity here.
Tell ya what, Joe. You stop trying to find blinker fluid, get out of our way while we fix the flat tire, and we'll have this ole buggy roaring past everybody faster than you could spell blinker fluid.
What about the spark plugs for the diesel motor?
Joe sent the Republicans to get them. Teamwork! Split the load!
Muffler bearings need replaced.
Joe and Trump tried to send the libertarians to get those, but Pelosi said they'd been stolen by the Jan 6th rioteers.
They must have been on her desk.
He just got back from the store with plenty of carbs for the engine.
Both parties believe the other party is destroying the country, and they're both right.
Truest thing I've seen in a while
Nonsense, it's like the difference between a drunken John Belushi and Cthulhu. One might drop an upper decker in your bathroom, the other will destroy all life with fire.
OK, I should have done this sooner. If you read the replies while sarcumsac is muted, it is fucking hilarious. Please get him going....
That was almost as immature as the average comment from the mean girls.
"Soooooooooooo immature..."

Hey buddy I see you post that a lot. Is that like your catchphrase or something?
I unmuted him recently because he was credited with making a cogent, appreciated post. It is funny just seeing Jesse’s posts when sarc goes vulnerable narcissist on him with sarc’s posts muted.
It's true. He did. It was a good post.
*A* good post. It didn't take long before I hit the mute button again.
A broken clock is right twice a day; sarc's not anywhere close.
A broken cuck then?
A drunken clock.
Didn't somebody bring up Slaughterhouse Five in a thread? Dipshit is unstuck in leftiness. And can also take a flying fuck at a rolling doughnut.
That was the resident pedo.
He said 2 things in order
1. Parents are now more interested in curriculum than when he was a kid
2. When he was a kid parents tried to ban slater house 5
Yes they are mutually exclusive
Except the mean girls are on permamute. All they want to talk about is me, and I'd rather talk about ideas.
Like just now?
Well thats a lie. You spent Saturday talking about being an asshole to your ex. Need the link?
Here's you're attention sarcasmic, are you happy now?
You’re full of shit. You’re just a troll. You don’t talk about ideas. Quit shitting up threads and go back to WaPo where you belong.
I highly recommend just tuning out the "mean girl" stuff. It makes this place way better. Just scroll on by the bullshit.
Glad I provide amusement =)
Yet 99% of your complaints are about just one party. Weird how both you and Brandy are trying to pretend to be centrists again all of a sudden.

So Twitter has relaxed their misinformation policies?
No, not a bit; Twitter is still 100% dedicated to censoring anything that isn't misinformation.
Not Twitter supports misinformation, and suppresses the truth on behalf of the democrats.
I wonder what it will look like if, one day, in a land far far away, everyone just turns these people off and ignores them.
You'll find yourself in a quietly constructed private prison run by a conglomeration of silicon Valley corporations, with Stephen Colbert performing live every Sunday night for the entertainment.

Who do you plan to vote for this year? If it was going to be close in my state, I might have considered holding my nose and voting for the person most likely to supplant the eminently fireable incumbent.
MEAN TWEETS!!
Yep. Reason staff went out of their way to get Biden in. They deserve to be excoriated for that.
This came out of nowhere.
Too bad Reason writers spent 4 years only caring about mean tweets
Yeah cause Trump was soooooo fiscally responsible. Lol.
OH, look! TDS-addled asshole shows up to prove how stupid he is. Again!
Fuck off and die.
Trump doing 78 mph in a 65 zone.
Biden doing 78 mph in a school zone with a bus dropping off kids.
With Biden’s senility causing a dissociative episode common in retards with dementia.
Look. It's different when Republicans pass massive spending bills and add trillions to the debt.
It isn’t if the number is the same. Just that the number isn’t the same.
It's different when the amounts are different, and it's no surprise a TDS-addled asshole like you needs an explanation.
They always pull the same bullshit. If these faggots actually cried about the budget, they and their owners would be proposing spending cuts.
It's different in degree. Republicans have done nothing to reduce spending when they were in a position to do so. They are certainly less bad, and but still far from good.
Agreed - the Republicans are terrible but the alternative is unthinkable.
If ever there was a time for an alternative to the two-headed evil in American politics...
They act like Republican presidents have never passed 10 trillion in their first year......you tell em sarcs...........they always do.......give em the names sarcs
having to borrow to pay just the interest of the debt would be building back better
Somewhat. He actually proposed cuts to every cabinet department’s budget. He was stopped by an alliance of democrats and RINO trash. So as usual, it’s really all the fault of leftists.
When he had his Senate use "reconciliation" it was to give the country a massive tax cut that sent the economy into the stratosphere.
When Biden has his slimmest of majorities do it, it is to do the opposite, with the consequent downward effect on our prosperity.
Pretty responsible action by the last guy, if you ask almost everyone.
The Republicans are clearly using this as leverage to get the Democrats to use a reconciliation bullet. The Republicans have plenty of their fingerprints on the national debt. You want to argue that the Democrats have more, fine, probably true, but the Rs have plenty. Seems kinda irresponsible of them to not take care of a mess they contributed mightily to.
On the other hand, Biden and the Democrats seem completely oblivious to the fact that their bullshit $3.5T plan is going to add enormously to future debt and make this problem harder to deal with in the future. Or more likely they don’t care.
Why do we even mess with this canard anymore? Everyone knows that none of them give a shit about deficits and they’re never going to change behavior. Yet periodically we go through this bullshit dance and scare the markets, etc. Just pull the debt limit and stop this crap. It doesn’t serve as a throttle on the accumulation of debt anyway.
OH, look! TDS-addled asshole shows up to prove how stupid he is. Again!
Fuck off and die.
"The Republicans have plenty of their fingerprints on the national debt."
If the data contradicts your theory, it doesn't mean the data is wrong. It means you need to change your theory.
The fact is that the Republicans unanimously voted against the $1.9 trillion coronavirus bill in March, and the Democrats passed it over their objections.
The fact is that the Democrats are having a hard time passing the $3.5 trillion budget reconciliation bill--because not a single Republican will vote for it. They need to pass it without any Republican help.
If there's anything crazier than pretending that the Republicans haven't overseen significant overspending in the past, surely it's ignoring the fact that the Republicans are unanimously opposed to $1.9 + $3.5 = $5.4 trillion in new spending--right freakin' now--that the Democrats are fighting like hell to make happen.
The argument isn't about what's happened in the past. It's about what the Democrats are doing right now and what the Republicans' unanimous op[position to that spending in both chambers of Congress.
It's especially hilarious to listen to them whine about Republicans should help after sabotaging Trump his entire term.
I’m not ignoring that, Ken. But the Rs have contributed plenty to the debt being where it currently is.
Obama added 10 trillion, Trump added 2 trillion in his first two years due to Senate Democrats requiring spending more to sign threatening to shut down the government. When Pelosi became speaker she added 5 trillion over 2 years and threatened a shutdown when Trump refused to sign.
The Senate is now debating a House bill to suspend the debt ceiling allowing Democrats to spend freely and Republicans are filibustering. Schumer threatened to do away with the filibuster but did not have enough Democrat votes. Democrats refused to do reconciliation because it would not allow suspending the ceiling. Schumer was forced to ask McConnell to do what McConnell offered last month to raise the ceiling enough to pay the bills until December because he ran out of time to do reconciliation and was afraid if he did not have the votes it would cause a default. Democrats don't even have the votes to pass the 3.5 trillion bill and hopefully both bills will fail.
The argument isn’t about what’s happened in the past. It’s about what the Democrats are doing right now and what the Republicans’ unanimous op[position to that spending in both chambers of Congress.
Ken, your team red whataboutism is is played and tired. Both sides! -sarc
Nothing wrong with saying that the Republicans are the better choice right now, but are still generally useless when it comes to reducing government scope and cost.
The only way to know for sure would be to give the GOP a super majority in the Senate and the House while a fiscally responsible GOP President was in office. As long as neither side has 60 votes in the Senate they mostly fight each other. If Trump could have forced the budget he submitted each year it would have cut the size of government and reduced spending and waste.
The only other choice would be a convention of states that could bring the federal government back under control and completely reform it.
I'm afraid the Article 5 convention is the only route with a prayer.
Why would DC every support limits on their own power?
There is a reason why 6 of the 10 wealthiest counties in the USA are suburbs of DC.
It doesn’t serve as a throttle on the accumulation of debt anyway.
Seems to be slowing down the process now.
Is it just me, or do Republicans only oppose massive spending and debt when the other party has the White House?
It's just you, TDS-addled asshole.
Is it just me, or do libertarians only recognize a bad decicion after they've made it?
True, RINO filth, who aren’t much better than democrats, are responsible for a lot of debt. If you don’t want more debt, vote for real conservatives. Just because someone has an R after their name doesn’t necessarily are them conservative.
If YOU vote democrat, you are to blame, and have much to repent for.
"On the other hand, Biden and the Democrats seem completely oblivious to the fact that their bullshit $3.5T plan is going to add enormously to future debt and make this problem harder to deal with in the future. Or more likely they don’t care. "
To be fair, if you jump out of a plane at 50,000 feet, you've got a problem. But if you hold onto an anvil while doing it, your problem isn't actually meaningfully harder to deal with, because you had no way of dealing with it in the first place.
In a sense the Democrats are right that an extra few trillion dollars in spending doesn't make the problem any more intractable, because it's probably already maximally intractable, and can't actually get worse, all that can happen is that the crash comes a little sooner.
Talk about an inflection point reminds me of fiction by Robert Anton Wilson in which a society finally begins pump priming in a "really big way" and inaugurates the R.I.C.H. society.
So, I guess it's time to reclassify the presidential rhetoric over the last few years as Trumbidian, or maybe Bitrumpian: equally divisive, incoherent, and designed to inflame the populace. (And, yeah, I know it isn't anything really that new).
Such a joy watching the "leaders" of the world's most powerful nation acting like spoiled school-children, complete with name-calling and sneers. (And yeah, I know it isn't anything that new).
We were told that Biden was going to be so much better than Trump as to competence and tone. That was complete crap. This administration has fucked up everything it has touched. And Biden has proven to be what he always was - a smartass who is so stupid he had to cheat to finish last in his law class.
Adults in charge.
"We were told that Biden was going to be so much better than Trump as to competence and tone."
Well, I never thought Biden was going to be better than Trump in actual policy. I never liked Trump, even before he was a TV star.
I didn't vote for him in this last election -- but then, in my State, he never had a snowball's chance in hell anyway. My wife and I discussed it, and decided, if it was anything even moderately close, that the Devil we knew was better than the Satan we didn't know, that we would vote for him.
I did not really expect Biden to be so corrosive, however. But that was probably my fault for not taking AOC and her gang seriously enough.
The only "win" I got in the last election is that I can say (for the umpteenth time): "Hey, don't blame me, I didn't vote for him."
Sorry: meant for Bevis, dammit.
Oh, it was okay.. MORE COFFEE PLEASE 🙂
We all need to take this very seriously. The left needs to be put down while we have a country left. They are welcome to unconditionally surrender at any time.
They are welcome to unconditionally surrender at any time.
Or just leave the country they so obviously hate.
There are shitholes that have their kind of idiocy running them. Why do they want to ruin this one, when those are available to them?
Yeah I didn’t believe it either and didn’t vote for either one. I’m in Texas, so my non vote didn’t benefit Biden.
There was some hope that Biden, being an old fart, wouldn’t govern as a progressive. Oops. He’s completely caved to the most extreme part of his party.
And Trump throwing the Senate as part of his temper fit over losing made this stuff possible. The fucking partisans are gonna kill us.
Since when has Biden ever shown any real principles of any kind? He’s in it for power and his cut as ‘The Big Guy’. He’s clearly guilty of selling out his office when he was VP. He belongs in prison, not political office. Especially one to which he was never really elected
"There was some hope that Biden, being an old fart, wouldn’t govern as a progressive."
Not if you were actually reading his campaign literature, instead of the anodyne coverage of it. He's not governing any different than he promised to. Except more incoherently, I suppose, but, dementia IS progressive.
And you, shit-for-brains, shout BOTHSIDES!!! .
"And you, shit-for-brains, shout BOTHSIDES!!!'
Hmm. Another intelligent, well-thought-out response. On the other hand, on some level, you are correct -- BOTHSIDES suck. Which is why I wish I had more than two actual parties from which to choose. Don't worry, though, no candidate for a national office, for whom I voted, ever won, and I don't expect that to change. So sleep well tonight, 'kay?
"...BOTHSIDES suck..."
One greatly less than the other and those who are not infantile in their hopes for perfection make the appropriate choice instead of whining BOTHSIDES!
Are you adult enough to understands that every decision involves compromise, or some driveling juvenile?
And stuff your passive/agression up your ass.
Yawn.
He brings up a good point. Republicans do suck…… because of the RINO scum like McConnell, Romney, Collins, Murkowski, etc. that never govern as conservatives. We need to change that.
Romney will probably be *SHOCKED* to discover how unpopular his campaign approach of being "Utahs' Gavin Newsome, but a Carpetbagger!" really is.
*shrugs*
That's all they've ever been. I don't think you should pretend that their pretense is anything except a facade to lull you. Its an illusion.
Blowing 3.5 trillion we don't have on stuff we don't need is now "destroying the country".
Saddling multiple generations with staggering new debt is now "helping American families".
Sorry, voting against blowing 3.5 trillion we don't have on stuff we don't need is now "destroying the country".

"The biggest and most offputting reveal during the rise, reign, and continued influence of Trumpism within the GOP has been the extent to which even seasoned politicos have ditched principle and philosophical mooring for whatever it takes to produce or emulate #Winning against the hated libs."
Failing to reelect Trump may be the worst thing to happen to libertarian capitalism since the Johnson administration--we may need to go back further than that if the $3.5 trillion budget reconciliation bill fails. The libertarian journalists who helped contribute to Trump's loss are understandably in denial about the consequences of their efforts to defeat Trump, but the fact remains that the Republicans have little or no power to stop Biden's agenda.
The only thing stopping Biden's Green New Deal spending and his expansion of entitlements is the efforts of moderate Democrats. Blaming Republicans for their rhetoric against the Biden administration, in that context, is absurd. They're using the only weapon they have--their speech--and the Republicans are using their speech amid a news media press that actively despises them.
Republicans have no other means of resistance. They can't even organize protests against Biden on social media without drawing accusations of insurrection. Did you expect the Republicans to pull their pants down and grab their ankles? If using their speech to help generate as much resistance to Biden's policies as possible isn't appropriate, what do you suggest they do and where do you suggest they do it?
"We may need to go back further than that if the $3.5 trillion budget reconciliation bill
fails[passes]."----Ken Shultz
You knew what I meant!
New logic. We are so broke, we have to spend trillions to keep us solvent. At least that's how I understand it.
Meanwhile, inflation is up because of the progressives' actions, and energy prices are spiking because progressives want the cost of fossil fuels to spike.
"How YOU understand it?" Well lookee here boys, we got us one o' them *understanders*.
What part of "Here's a 2500 page bill. Vote's in two days." says we want you to "understand" it? If it's simple enough for Don Lemon or Joy Reid to nod along to our explanations ("It saves the economy, ends global warming and makes a fine marinara sauce."), it's simple enough for you to do the same.
What you really want to understand is Gen. Milley's rapidly-evolving definition of "domestic terrorist".
“Failing to reelect Trump may be the worst thing to happen”
Maybe you are not aware of this, but Trump tried to undermine American democracy. Well, actually he is still trying, although at this point it may be more about grifting.
LOL
Maybe you are not aware of this, but you suck.
Democracy should be undermined. As we are a constitutional republic, not a democracy. His only complaint was about all the fraud committed by your democrat owners.
Siccing the FBI on parents who oppose CRT at school board meetings isn't democracy. Shutting down Parler because of what people say on the platform isn't democracy. Harassing Kysten Sinema while she's on the toilet because she represents the views of her purple state isn't democracy. The Nazis used the Reichstag fire as an excuse to dismantle democracy--all in the name of saving democracy--and the progressives are using the same playbook. There hasn't been a movement in history that was more hostile to legitimate democracy since Jim Crow.
The progressives are hostile to democracy itself, and they're hostile to the First Amendment--freedom of conscience, freedom of speech, and freedom of assembly. They're obsessed with canceling any public figures who dare to publicly defy them in the media. They're obsessed with controlling what people are allowed to talk about on social media. They're obsessed with indoctrinating people's children with CRT over the objections of their parents, and they denigrate parents as insurrectionists for protesting.
Progressives have nothing but contempt for the opinions of average Americans, and the whole purpose of progressivism is to use the coercive power of government to force Americans to make sacrifices for the common good as progressives define it. And they justify the horrible shit they do to us by denigrating average Americans who oppose them as racists, xenophobes, homophobes, misogynists, and insurrectionists. They show nothing but contempt for the opinions of average Americans, out of one side of their mouths, and then they claim to defend democracy out of the other side of their mouths.
The people who genuinely believe progressives are serious about defending democracy--despite all the anti-democratic things progressives say and do--are genuinely stupid. Ask them whether they want to change the Constitution so that the rules of naturalization are no longer set by Congress. See the contempt they have for the average people exercising their free speech rights on social media. See the contempt they have for people's opinions on global warming. Looking to progressives to defend democracy is the fox guarding the hen house. Progressives hate democracy.
Hmm, I didn’t say a word suggesting Democrats are the defenders of democracy. I said Trump and his Republican sycophants tried to undermine democracy.
There’s a logical difference there, and as the world’s foremost logical person you would be able to grasp what that difference is. Maybe if I draw you a Venn diagram.
"First I want to set one thing straight: my butt's been wiped."

But not by himself.

One of life's most underrated pleasures....
How long before 'get out of the way' changes into 'get out of the country'? That change is like the Leper's Bell. You will know we passed the point of no return when that happens.
A bit of historical wisdom from a great philosopher:
Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway
Don't block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
The battle outside ragin'
Will soon shake your windows
And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'
#insurrectionnow
“#insurrectionnow”
Fuck that. What we need is for people in this country to drop the partisan bullshit, and act like grownups.
That’s rich coming from you.
Yup. The pot cawing the kettle black.
Partisan bullshit like referring to peaceful protesters that were trespassing as insurrectionists? Like pushing a false narrative about a fire extinguisher? Or championing a fake news story regarding a horse dewormer?
The left needs to either abandon their beliefs, or GTFO forever.
Let's be honest. I have no love for Republicans by any stretch but contemporary Democrats (their politicians, media, big tech and voters) are eerily similar to the nazi party. The all want to silence any dissidents. They are excellent at propaganda. They are actively trying to turn large parts of the population into 2nd class citizens (the unvaccinated instead of Jews). We can only hope it doesn't lead to something resembling extermination camps, but at this point I really can't rule out anything as beyond their tyranny. Just like the nazis, they are socialists. They believe private industry is a tool of the state's priorities as is evident by everything from telling auto makers what type of cars to build to trying to force larger employers to check vaccination status on behalf of the government. They believe in a dictatorial strongman at the top without checks and balances.
And before somebody accuses me I didn't vote for Trump in 2016 or 2020. I'm just saying modern day American leftists are tyrannical savages.
“They are actively trying to turn large parts of the population into 2nd class citizens (the unvaccinated instead of Jews).”
Oh, please. That is really insulting who actual Jews who died in prison camps.
You may disagree with vaccination mandates, as I do, but those who are pushing them are trying to get people to get vaccinated, not to ostracize them.
Too stupid to see the parallels.
Vax macht frei
I am a Jew, with grandparents who were in concentration camps and thankfully survived. Many other members of my family 2 generations ago were not so lucky.
You are seriously naive if you think this is just to get people vaccinated. At some point you did learn that Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny aren't real, right? This is government saying you will do as I say or we will systematically destroy your life.
There are plenty of honest leftists who say they want conservatives and the unvaccinated to die. That is completely an unpalatable policy politically (at least at the moment). But apparently turning them into 2nd class citizens is now within the overton window. And that window is shifting 100 miles towards complete government control by the minute with COVID as the excuse, which is why I don't put it past them to jail, "reeducate" or eventually exterminate people who don't fall in line.
The fact that the vaccinated need to be protected from the unvaccinated is also very telling in several other ways. Either they want to control the unvaccinated since the vaccine works well enough that the vaccinated shouldn't have to care about the vaccinated as vector of infection. Or that that the vaccines really don't work that well (the truth), which shows they are doing this for control, not public health as the benefits are marginal. Or again, they want to control people who they believe are making foolish choices about their health, but are too busy bodyish to let people accept the consequences of their own decisions (they certainly believe this economically at least as is evident by "social safety nets").
I forget to add in the first post, contemporary leftists are scapegoating the unvaccinated as the source of why COVID is still around just like the Germans scapegoated the Jews for their economic problems. And like the Nazis, the contemporary left are horridly racist (except against whites instead of anybody but whites). They also believe in violent protests/terrorism to achieve their means (antifa and blm vs the brownshirts).
Again, they basically believe the same things, just applied to different groups. And they have yet to gain enough power as the nazis did. But they are working on it (as they are doing everything in their power to make it as easy as possible to cheat your way into winning an election).
Yes well so am I.
Nothing you posted has anything to do with the Shoah, Nazi Germany, or Jewish history.
Virus It does not care. It is without mercy. It is without discrimination. It is a problem for all of humanity.
One who saves a life it as if he had saved an entire world.
Mishnah Sanhedrin 4:5
Perhaps you know what this means פקוח נפש. It is an overriding principle in Jewish culture and religion. The saving of lives and preservation of health is primary. It is not just being nice it is an obligation and responsibility.
Yes it does. You just don’t get it, or are dishonest. Except we are at around 1933, not 1943. Give the democrats time, they will eventually try to enter k ate any dissenters.
Democrats are mortal enemies of all Americans.
I will remind you that the mandates did not begin with democrats. I am neither so I don’t really care. The issue for me is the power we give to government. The democrats, as much as I disagree, are in no way comparable to the Nazis.
There is no valid comparison to the Holocaust and Nazi germany. Even Marjorie Taylor Greene admitted that and made a public apology and statement retracting any such comparison. There is none.
In her words “there is nothing comparable to the Holocaust”.
To make one is facile and dishonors the victims of the horror that was Nazi Germany. It dishonors our soldiers buried beneath the soil in Normandy and elsewhere in Europe.
I know and have read more about the Holocaust and Nazi germany than I am willing to say here. I had thought it would bring me some kind of closure and understanding. It did not.
We aren't comparing current events to the holocaust. We are comparing current events to events leading to the holocaust. Which you have to be blind to not see similarities. Patriotic guy said as much when he said " Except we are at around 1933, not 1943". Don't strawman!
So the holocaust didn't start by turning Jews into 2nd class citizens before attempted extermination? And the nazis didn't gain power among other reasons via brownshirt terrorism?
FYI, I'm Jewish by ethnicity, not really by belief. And even if I was remotely religious, what the hell does things from the torah have to do with the discussion at hand? I also seem to remember something about 10 plagues unleashed on the Egyptians who took away the freedom of the Jews, if we want to make ridiculous comparisons from the torah. That's god's stance on tyranny according to the old testament.
Now back to reality, the virus is NOT a problem for all humanity. It is a problem for the elderly and the sickly. Which according to statistics will likely die soon anyway without COVID. That is sad but not an untimely tragedy if they did end up dying from COVID. For most of the population it's an insignificant risk and a possible annoyance of being stuck in bed for a few days if you catch it.
And I can guarantee you that all the side effects of restricted freedom, economic turmoil and dangerous precedents set due to the COVID restrictions of the last year and a half will cause far more loss of life as measured in days (as those will effect everybody, including those with many decades left to live, not just those close to death) than the virus ever could.
Sierra, the paranoia isn't a good look with those shoes.
Paranoia is for fear of things that have yet to come or are incredibly unlikely.
In left run cities such as New York and LA, the unvaccinated are already 2nd class citizens. It is a fact that Biden is trying to do this nationwide with the 100 employee vax requirement and now trying to pitch vaccine requirements for getting on an airliner. Again, this isn't opinion or conjecture, those are facts.
Big tech censorship of right leaning or anti vaccine opinions is a fact. Whether they are or aren't officially run directly by the DNC, the mainstream media cheers on everything they do and is effectively their propaganda machine, fact. BLM and Antifa riots happened.
And thanks to COVID, there is literally now a precedent for the government to decide which businesses are or aren't essential to society and allowed to be open. And also thanks to COVID, the left played society's fear like a fiddle by turning housing into a human right with eviction moratoriums that (surprise, surprise) aren't ending even when there are jobs available everywhere. Government control of private business and private property is a cornerstone of fascism and we now have that to a disgusting extent.
Are you going to deny any of this happened? Whether this ends up in outright jailing dissidents or worse exterminating them is yet to be seen as paranoia or not. But considering the initial steps of the nazi party gaining power have basically happened in front of our eyes in the last 18 months, I wouldn't dismiss that happening in the US as just paranoia.
I would call the people who want to throw the world upside for COVID as paranoids (or undercover fascists who are using it as an excuse to gain power). Cause we have data on COVID mortality and it's a very minor risk statistically for anyone in decent health during working age. Unless you think it's a worthwhile tradeoff to destroy western civilization to possibly extend the lives of some 80 year olds in wheel chairs by 6 months or a year or do the same to 400 pound diabetics, supporting COVID martial law is the definition of paranoia.
Joe, the gaslighting isn't a good look with the cognitive challenge*...oh, wait, it is.
*-I didn't want to call Joe a retard because I'm sensitive that way. Even though he is. And I didn't call him a "fucking retard" because I didn't want to lower the level of discourse on the board by swearing.
Fake news. If you say black lives matter the virus can't get you! (source fauci the cdc the fda... Etc
Funny, Mengele made the same arguments for the medical procedures he imposed on unwilling subjects.
That it a specious comparison. Mengele was a sadistic lunatic.
Jonas Salk, who was Jewish, found a vaccine which transformed the world.
“Contrary to the era’s prevailing scientific opinion, Salk believed his vaccine, composed of “killed” polio virus, could immunize without risk of infecting the patient. Salk administered the vaccine to volunteers who had not had polio, including himself, his lab scientist, his wife and their children. All developed anti-polio antibodies and experienced no negative reactions to the vaccine.
In 1954, national testing began on one million children, ages six to nine, who became known as the Polio Pioneers. On April 12, 1955, the results were announced: the vaccine was safe and effective. In the two years before the vaccine was widely available, the average number of polio cases in the U.S. was more than 45,000. By 1962, that number had dropped to 910. Hailed as a miracle worker, Salk never patented the vaccine or earned any money from his discovery, preferring it be distributed as widely as possible.“
Patient autonomy is an inviolable commandment to me. I have never advocated for public government mandates on vaccines or anything else. I am an advocate for health and preservation of life.
It's not a "comparison" at all. I'm saying that describing your motivations as "the saving of lives and preservation of health" doesn't tell me much about your moral stance, since the same phrase has been used by many people, including sadistic lunatics.
Sounds to me like Salk may have been an ambitious, high functioning psychopath (think about how he would be remembered if prevailing scientific opinion had turned out to be right). Society no doubt needs people like that, but you might want to be careful using them as your moral yardstick.
It's all about telling us what a wonderful and morally superior person you are, isn't it?
Echospinner...Hope all is well in GA. A belated 'L'Shana Tovah' to you. 🙂
And you as well. All is good here and best to you and yours.
actual Jews
That's a startling phrase coming from a leftloon. I guess it shouldn't be.
It is a startling phrase coming from anyone Vernon.
you're very, very ignorant if you actually believe that the libs's motives are pure and just want people "vaccinated". it is 100% about control of the masses -- nothing more, nothing less.
Looks like a case of 'meet the new boss, same as the old boss'.
But hey - no mean Tweets and . . . *snicker* . . . *giggle*, other countries *snort* respect us again! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
I know, right? I mean, I can't count the number of sleepless nights I suffered over Belgium and Austria not respecting Trump.
Oh, wait! Yes I can! It was zero!
Biden is trash. He road a wave of corruption and ambiguous election results to the White House. He will croak in office or get removed by his own party because of his declining mental state. All this bloviating though talk he has to read off of cue cards.
Yet another January 6 terrorist insurrectionist has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor disorderly conduct.
The hammer of justice is coming down.
Sorry. Link.
Which is along the lines of what they are actually guilty of. Just some misdemeanors. This is all being dragged out for political purposes.
Punishable by up to 6 months.
The article did not say... Is this one of the folks who has been held without bail? Because that has been more than 6 months already.
I did not think it waa general practice to hold people without bail for misdemeanor crimes. Heck, they have bail for multiple murders.
What happens if you are held pre-trial for longer than the sentence could be for the charge? I propose people in that situation should receive a literal "get out of jail free" card. And charges dropped.
What? For "almost toppling the government of the most powerful nation on earth"?? They deserve decapitation! Or worse, "decorpitation"! That's where they don't just cut your head off, they cut your whole body off!
Bidens Quotes,
"My message to Republicans: If you don't want to help save the country, get out of the way."
THIS is the problem with Democrats; they don't even know what country they're saving; or actually taking-over.
The USA IS NOT............. (see below)
inaugural-address theme was "unity"
([WE] mob based.)
"doing everything they can to undermine the public health
social-spending bills"
(Socialized health and social redistribution).
"if we don't choose correctly, and fast—America as we know it may soon be lapped by China and Russia."
(The same principle as China or Russia)
Trump's willingness to toss around words like "treasonous," and "un-American" and "enemy" when describing fellow Americans.
(Trump was dead-on CORRECT and as perfectly demonstrated below)
"They're about leading the world pursue a **!!!!-broader vision-!!!!** of our nation. And to oppose them is to accept a very cramped view of our future."
( i.e. They AREN'T USA Patriots; they want to take-over the USA and replace it with National Socialism)
The Republican Party, meanwhile, "is becoming an armed insurgency in the United States, and it is absolutely terrifying," if you believe MSNBC's go-to intelligence guru Malcolm Nance...
Correctly Stated as, "The Republican Party, meanwhile, is becoming an armed insurgency of the Take-Over-Nazi-Regime, and it is absolutely terrifying for us Nazi's".
At at the VERY CORE of all this is the undeniable fact that the USA is NOT a democracy that gets turned into a National Socialist Nation by a majority favor in Congress. It is a !!!!!!!!!! CONSTITUTIONAL !!!!!!!!! Union of Republican States.
Democrats know this; but saying it would destroy their 'take-over' plans to (and I quote) "They're about leading the world". To Conquer and Consume the entire WORLD with Gov-Gun POWER of National Socialist Leadership.
Or summed up by Obama, "to fundamentally change the USA"
Fundamentally changing the USA isn't politics as usual; It's a treasonous take-over BECAUSE the USA isn't a democracy of [WE] mob rulers.
MAKE them get the 2/3rds Congress and State Ratification to change the Nation or tell the criminalistic treasonous regime to just F'OFF! USA citizens should bow-down to treasonous traitors even if they were democratically elected to be Nazi-Gods instead of USA congressmen.
You’re president, you can stop complaining about your opponent now.
They'll never stop complaining until the dissent of USA Patriotism is completely eliminated.
Good work dear
Biden and the Democrats are the only ones destroying the country. Thank God there is someone in their way. Yet they were given power by the voters to destroy the country on their own. What a travesty.
Interesting how an article about Biden contained so much TDS. He really does live in your heads rent free.
Amuzing how now that it's no longer the party of Lincoln, the Republicans are destroying the country.
Thanks for the Miss Manners column Matt. Of course with Mitt trying to avoid the check from the last banquet he hosted, the President should be gracious above all else.
F.. no. Drop dead!
Yeah this type of hyperbolic doomsaying that either party does is not helpful and only adds to the division and cynicism.
The fact of the matter is, Republicans aren't, by and large, bad people. They want what they think is best for the country. And Democrats aren't, by and large, bad people. They want what they think is best for the country. There is simply too little desire to compromise. Too much assumption of bad faith and evil motives all around. I think it is absolutely because a lot of people have chosen to self-segregate, both in person and virtually, into bubble communities where everyone they see and know is in agreement with their views. So the only exposure that these people see to the "other tribe" is via the media and social media, which is oftentimes completely unflattering and only perpetuates stereotypes and division. If one's only knowledge of Democrats came from right-wing demagogues on Facebook, then one would be forgiven from thinking that they hate America. Similarly if one's only knowledge of Republicans came from left-wing demagogues on Twitter, then one would be forgiven from thinking that they hate America.
The solution here is to actually meet and befriend people who are different from you. To actually listen to them and to hear their concerns and their motivations and take them to heart. I recently had a conversation with a person who was in favor of the COVID vaccine mandate. Contrary to what people say around here, this person was not an evil monster desiring to exercise control over people for the sake of tyranny. She was instead motivated by fear. She was fearful of a situation in which the virus continued to run rampant around the world forever, and that she thought the only way to avoid that possibility was to use government force to vaccinate people, in order to save lives and finally end the pandemic. She wasn't a monster at all. Her fears were exaggerated and her methods were unwise but her motivations were sincere.
We all need more of those conversations. Of course I include myself in that category, along with everyone else. We all need to have a conversation with a left-winger or a right-winger and actually listen to them and hear their concerns with an open mind and open heart. Just listening to people does not constitute an endorsement of their position or moral approval of their position. It is only listening. We all ought to do more of this, so as to avoid situations like the above where we have politicians claiming to speak in our name saying things like "if they don't do X, America will be destroyed".
chemjeff, +1. I work with and was raised by many I don't agree with and some of the best people I know are on the opposite "side" of these tribal wars.
Adding to the irony is the fact - FACT - that Americans are less divided by ideology than at any time in my life, but through those who make money on the divide - 24/7 cable opinion networks, "talk" radio, and demagogic politicians - we all have a heightened sense of conflict. I grew up in the segregated south, so I remember when a majority in many states thought that was a defensible position. That is fortunately no longer a respectable position in America. Divisive BS about gays and same sex marriages is a settled question now, everyone agrees Iraq was a bad mistake, and Medicare and SS are defended by the right and left. Sure, we can find stuff to fight about and have real disagreements, but they are not the stuff of civil wars and should not break friendships.
Everybody calm down. Don't listen to the paranoids. We have to compromise in a country of 350 million or we don't remain a democracy. If anything, the internet and cell phones put a complete reference desk in each of our's pocket and the number of news sources and opinions available have multiplied beyond anything on the news stand in the 1960s. The economics of news collection is challenged and local newspapers are dying, but a new model will hopefully rise, and despite the paranoids and the "nazis" and "fascists" they warn against, we have a free press, if not a free FB. Funny, but we don't have "free" talk radio either and that is not deemed a problem by the paranoids.
PS Remember, modern America is a place where everyone agrees that not only was Iraq a mistake, but so was long term Afghanistan and Viet Nam, white woman of all types love Oprah and Denzel, white man like Shaq and have no problem with a black head ref at a Bama/Auburn game telling the coaches to get off the field, we twice elected a black president, and blacks in S Carolina overwhelmingly voted for the old white guy. This is not a perfect country and we have differences, but they are small potatoes in reality, no matter how much the cheerleaders try to get us cranked up. Focus on what those differences really are, not the BS.
Uh...what are you talking about? We have one side that kind of agrees with you and one side that has magically, out of thin air, manufactured an imaginary American that is more racist than the antebellum South.
Probably a mere coincidence that this has resulted in a lot of race-baiting grifters getting paid. And both sides cash in on the division. As we've learned from attempts at governmental reform, it's really, really, really difficult to take that "government waste" money out of someone's pocket. Same applies to destructive, hateful race-grifting money. (on both sides)
"Funny, but we don’t have “free” talk radio either and that is not deemed a problem by the paranoids."
...except you do. And progs have repeatedly tried to gain an audience there and failed. Miserably.
damik, I imagine you don't know the history or principles involved in public airwaves. Unlike the internet, there is limited bandwidth available for broadcast TV and radio and for that reason they have both been regulated by the FCC. Prior to the Reagan presidency there had been a "fairness doctrine" applied to stations possessing FCC licensing which required roughly fair airing of opposing view points. Republicans jettisoned this and that's how we now have national conglomerates imposing national programming of right wing shock jocks 24/7 from sea to shining sea. Somehow that does not bother "conservatives", while other private companies on the internet - and not operating on limited public airwaves - are decried as violators of 1st amendment rights because they kick off users who violate their terms of agreement.
Do you see the problem?
+1 Air America
It is only listening. We all ought to do more of this, so as to avoid situations like the above where we have politicians claiming to speak in our name saying things like “if they don’t do X, America will be destroyed”.
Your refusal to acknowledge the horrors of the 20th century, the 180 million sacrificed to the great socialist experiments, is the only reason you can spout this hippy garbage.
She wasn’t a monster at all. Her fears were exaggerated and her methods were unwise but her motivations were sincere.
Who gives a fuck about her motivations? She is wrong and needs to have it explained to her by showing her grisly example after grisly example until it overcomes her state apologist education.
You do realize that Stalin and Mao were both convinced they were saving the millions upon millions of people they starved to death with their policies. The greatest tragedies in the history of mankind were justified as the greater good. Collectivization killed more people than every war in the last two centuries. Entire sectors of societies, the kulaks in Russia and the intelligentsia in China were vilified, dispossessed, and liquidated.
This is not ancient history. It is happening right now in China, in NorK, in Afghanistan, in Africa, in South and Central America. If we abandon freedom for socialism, I guarantee it will happen here too.
The US succumbed to the impulse before and only recovered from the Japanese interment because people at all levels refused to listen to the excuses and did not relent until the government acknowledged that what it had done was wrong.
Chuck, take a pill. Vaccines have been mandated in the US since at least 1905 when the SC ruled it was a proper government function. If you think that makes the US since then a police state you are clearly delusional and your exaggerations only serve to give you a warped sense of mission. Try pet rescuing.
I wasn't even talking about vaccines.
You are just too stupid to justify responding to anymore. Despite your repeated call for citations to others, you fail to cite this case you say supports a point that was not being contested. I can predict with a high degree of confidence that it doesn't hold what you contend it does, simply because you referenced it.
There is not currently a single vaccine mandated for employment within the US. As the HR rep for my employer, I can assure you of this. In fact, it would be a violation of federal and state laws to make an employment decision based on an employee's health information.
Chuck, I believe you responded to chem's missive which mentioned a woman in favor of vaccines. If I misinterpreted your comments somehow forgive me, but:
1. I doubt it.
2. Maybe be more clear what you are responding to.
1. Then you are stupid.
2. Asinine.
I notice you didn't respond with your citation...
That's a load of shit. There has never been a broad mandate such as they are trying to impose now. Yes, vaccinations have been required for certain specific situations, usually with an easy opt-out and never as a requirement to participate in normal life. But even there, you will find that most libertarians oppose such mandates. That the SC has allowed some vaccination mandates doesn't make it a good idea or a moral thing to do.
Zeb, opposing vaccine mandates as a matter of ethics is not the same thing as saying those who disagree are nazis, fascists, and the equivalent of the worst murderers of the 20th century.
There's also the question of powers: states can mandate such things as they have broad police powers (which was the question in the 1905 case). The Feds cannot, because they don't.
For all the bitching we do about NY's vaccine mandates, nobody is saying they're illegal. Biden's order plainly is, which is probably why they've been stalling on actually issuing it ever since it was announced.
Bonus: Jacobson is the wellspring that gave us Buck v. Bell, the "three generations of imbeciles are enough" case. So, maybe it's not something to actually celebrate.
Claptrap, it is highly unlikely that Biden's mandates for federal employees will be deemed unconstitutional though the one on employers will be challenged and should be. I hope it is upheld as a matter of public health and on the same applied principle as the 1905 ruling, but we'll see. You know you have a case going in the opposite direction where the Gov of Florida is trying to stop cruise lines from imposing vaccine mandates on customers. As someone in business, I think that's a worse precedent if allowed to stand.
I don't see how this vaccine could be mandated on the public health grounds since it doesn't stop infection or transmission and has zero chance of eradicating the virus. At best it can drive a marginal reduction in infections and (hopefully) a significant reduction in mortality and morbidity. That can't justify forcing it on people. If it was something like the smallpox vaccine, then you could make the argument that it's worth the imposition (though I'd still disagree) because it could actually solve the problem once and for all.
Zeb, you are wrong on the medical points. It minimizes infections and therefore transmissions, and also mitigates symptoms and deaths. I know people who caught it with and without vaccinations and I also know docs who have personally treated scores of patients in the hospital - almost all of them unvaccinated. Beyond the deaths are not fully known but possibly chronic damage to hearts, lungs, brains, and immune systems, the latter now a concern for kids.
Those are reasons to advise individuals to get the vaccine. Not justification for forcing it on people who don't want it. This is not a vaccine that stops infections.
Zeb, as noted already, the vaccines all reduce the chances of catching the virus and if you do not catch it, you can't transmit it except by surface contact, a rare occurrence as almost all transmissions are by air particles.
Mandates do not force the vaccines on anyone. They limit the activities of those who are not vaccinated based on logical parameters.
And what am I wrong about? There is no question that it doesn't stop infection (they never claimed it did) and that it will never eradicate the virus. I have seen no evidence that contradicts that or any other claim I make.
Zeb, the vaccines do minimize infections. Many vaccines and drugs do not eradicate their targeted disease.
You are full of shit. Nothin you say contradicts anything I said. What the fuck does "minimize" mean? Yeah, they probably reduce the chance of infection to some degree. But the effectiveness claims about the vaccines are only that they reduce the chance of severe illness. If you are talking about a person showing no symptoms, the odds, with or without vaccine, that they are actually infected and will infect someone are miniscule. Adding the vaccine may reduce that already extremely small chance some small amount.
If the vaccine meant that you won't get it or transmit it, I'd still disagree with any policies trying to push people to get vaccinated, but you might have a leg to stand on if it meant we might eliminate this thing. But that isn't going to happen so you are asking for a huge imposition on people in order to slightly reduce the risk and that is just not reasonable.
Beyond the deaths are not fully known but possibly chronic damage to hearts, lungs, brains, and immune systems, the latter now a concern for kids.
You forgot the increased susceptibility to being struck by lightning. You know, since you are citing outcomes so rare that they are not statistically significant.
Chuck, you should read up about Covid and chronic conditions. One study of a few months back found that about 20% of Covid patients returned to their doctor with complaints associated with their lungs, heart, and brains. Recent problems noted with the immune systems - including children - have also been observed.
It shouldn't be upheld as a matter of public health, because it's not about public health: it's about on-the-job employee safety, and it just doesn't measure up in that regard. It's both overbroad and not broad enough. It is begging to be dismissed.
1. Remote-working employee of large firm: must be vaccinated
2. Customer-facing floor rep of a small retailer: no vaccine required
I used to work for a mine operator. I didn't have to wear a hard hat, because I worked in an office a thousand miles away.
Claptrap, interesting breakdown, and employee safety is the justification for OSHA rules. We'll see how that plays out and whether it is ruled an opposing principle to public health or a smaller part of that larger set.
The 100 employee hurdle is purely a legal contrivance, which doesn't make it therefore inapplicable.
Please, stop. You have no idea what you are talking about.
The 100 employee criteria comes from the legislative authorization for OSHA under the auspices of the Department of Labor. It is one of the many well established thresholds at which employers must comply with DoL and OSHA rules.
And here is the guidance from the EEOC. I dropped into Word to check, it is 15,250 words. Succinct and easy to understand, it is not.
OSHAs mandate will put employers in the position of having to question their unvaccinated employees about their sincerely held religious beliefs and provide proof of such. How is that about safety?
Lawyers are creaming their pants in anticipation.
Chuck, the presence of unvaccinated workers in the workplace affects safety. How then is it not about safety?
these covid drugs are not vaccines. you can call them by that name but it is a lie. the drugs do not meet the definition of the term and are unlike any real vaccines that we've developed. these drugs are nothing more that symptom reducers and they're not very good at that.
Ah, Joe Friday, you obviously miss your good old days, when progressives government performed lethal medical experiments on blacks, segregated Americans by race, confiscated all the gold, imposed price and wage controls, destroyed US healthcare, and forced people to get sterilized; it's your progressive nirvana, isn't it? It's what you want more of, isn't it?
If one’s only knowledge of Democrats came from right-wing demagogues on Facebook, then one would be forgiven from thinking that they hate America.
Also if one's only knowledge of Democrats came from left-wing demagogues on Twitter, etc.
Once again, Biden and the Dems play the Inverted Dictator card, as they often did while Trump was in office. They claim that any effort to push back on their totalitarian vision is "tyranny". Not sure if they believe this or if they are channeling Alinsky.
"Not sure if they believe this or if they are channeling Alinsky."
If you are truly not sure, re-read Alinsky.
Earth, you have no idea what tyranny is, do you?
Joe, you have no idea what liberty is, do you? (Or if you do, you don't like it.)
I do Joe and always try to keep historic perspective. What humans have achieved - and not - should not be considered the height of possibilities but should give us a measuring stick so we don't mistake where we are.
Do you? Anyway, he's not saying anything about tyranny, only that the Democrats are calling normal, constitutional push back "tyranny".
ZEb, you're correct and I owe Earth an apology - sorry Earth! - for misinterpreting his "tyranny" comment, though the "totalitarian" one is almost as bad.
Joe, you have no idea what tyranny is, do you?
Oh fuck off- what a bunch of garbage. Rs have declared war against the Democrats and won't do a goddamn thing with them and he's supposed to take it lying down?
Just fuck off reason. Pure unadulterated garbage right here.
Rs have declared war against the Democrats and won’t do a goddamn thing with them
Maybe there is a reason for that. If Republicans can use what power they do have in the legislature to stop a bill by legal, constitutional means, then yes, he should take it and accept it.
Zeb, I know politics is politics, but GOP preening as actually caring about the debt instead of just disagreeing on direction is fair game? OK, probably so, but well within "turn about is fair play" for democrats to point out the hypocrisy and pull whatever tricks they can come up with. Is that dishonesty what we want to encourage in our Congress and capital?
Knock yourself out.
They are already doing that.
That is the kind of dishonesty that has been rampant in Congress for decades, in particular among Democrats.
Lots of criticism about Biden's divisive rhetoric but nothing about the fact that his claim:
"To support these investments is to create a rising America, America that's moving," he said. "And to oppose these investments is to be complicit in America's decline. To support these bills is to pursue a broader vision of our nation. And to oppose them is to accept a very cramped view of our future."
is GARBAGE? That the government has no business being in business, that all his socialist initiatives, from climate to public education will sink this country economically and severely hinder private enterprise and innovation for decades to come? That it's the government AS A WHOLE that is pushing a cramped view of our future?
Why is the GOP, much less Libertarians both cap and lower case incapable of pointing this out and fighting this ideology?
The GOP is capable of pointing this out, but doesn't get much press coverage. That's because Americans don't understand or like free markets anymore.
Self-identified US "libertarians" are largely a bunch of losers that believe in some form of utopian communism with free drugs and free sex; their political positions are largely unencumbered by ideas from classical liberalism or free market economics.
Spoiler alert: the meteor is government.
When I was in college and law school, I used to say that the Democrats should stop being the opposition and just do what Ronald Reagan wanted.
I also say that Democrats should stop listening to their union benefactors and do what's good for the country.
This just in from blm : "Lets Go Brandon"
RE: "And Biden still has an impossible mountain to climb when it comes to topping Trump's willingness to toss around words like "treasonous," and "un-American" and "enemy" when describing fellow Americans."
I think you may have missed several Biden speeches. Worse, you have definitely missed hundreds of Democrat leader's comments.
This is particularly true for using "un-American". The Constitution and its principles and constitutional laws are particularly "American". To support principles and laws that are directly contrary to them is to truly be un-American and therefore the term is justified.
For example, to say that it is not illegal to cross our borders without authorization or to support open borders contrary to law is to be un-American.
To silence a political party during elections is distinctly un-American.
To enact all manner of laws that are against the Constitution and our history is to be un-American.
Most importantly, to allege the opposite of the above is distinctly and lyingly un-American.
Biden: 'Get Out of the Way, So You Don't Destroy' the Country
I want to be the one to due that!
The author is viewing politics through a tribal lens rather than a liberty lens.
The Trump presidency, viewed through a liberty lens, was by far the best in a generation. The Biden presidency, viewed through any lens, is a totalitarian train wreck, including stealing the election, and getting worse every day.
WTF is wrong with a writer for a (supposedly) libertarian magazine who can't see this.
Only ONE time in last five decades where US govt bonds were bought back and debt retired was under Clinton, after he RAISED TAXES.
Seems unlikely US Govt will ever run a surplus again no matter the party in control so eventually the US will probably default with the biggest losers being the investor class.
Nailed it.
You have to admire the ability to point and scream "fascist" in one direction while literal uniformed fascists are burning the Democrat cities and get away with it.
