Brickbat: What It Takes to Be Officer of the Year

Former Orlando, Florida, police officer Jonathan Mills has been charged with felony sexual battery by a law enforcement officer and battery. Mills and another officer pulled over a silver Nissan Sentra claiming they had mistaken it for a gray Toyota Corolla police were seeking. The officers determined it was not the vehicle they were looking for, but a passenger said that before the officers released them Mills said he thought the man had marijuana on him. He said Mills grabbed his genitals while searching him. He said Mills then did a body cavity search of him on the side of the road. Mills was the department's 2017 officer of the year, but local media report he also had a record of allegations of racism and lying on reports against him.

They routinely give each other awards so that later they can refute claims of misconduct using the Officer of the Year trophy as a contrived character witness.
I view an award for policing like the naming of an unindicted co- conspirator. It’s a way of casting aspersions on someone, without the rudeness of directly calling them out.

Policemen should do their job properly and maintain proper condition of law and order.
The bots are so clever now, they’ll have one normal comment to fool the spam detection.
The bots ARE out there!

“Neutral bots probe political bias on social media”
“We find that the political alignment of the initial friend has a major impact on the popularity, social network structure, exposure to bots and low-credibility sources, and political alignment manifested in the actions of each drifter. However, we find no evidence that these outcomes can be attributed to platform bias. “ … Emphasis on the last part!
Also, right-wingers are FAR more likely to use low-credibility sources than the left! Even after EXCLUDING Breitbart News!
>>low-credibility sources
who sets the standard?
The authors of the study! Of course, if they're not followers of Breitbart or Alex Jones, we can NOT believe them!
maybe police needs to be more active in during their job and always to to do the right thing. many police now only working for their pockets
"but local media report he also had a record of allegations of racism and lying on reports against him"
Well, the Orlando "media" is about as reliable and truthful as the New York Times, and the whole damn world has allegations of racism against it. So maybe we could see if any cited reliable verifiable witness get cited.
Sorry about the department of redundancy department revisions to the post that was in my mind. No coffee yet.
Nay, friend, no worries; for a cited source can still be cited yet again.
Sounds like a standard trip to the airport. It's not gay if it's TSA!!
The body cavity search was the long arm of the law
Moooooon River!
"...local media report he also had a record of allegations of racism and lying on reports against him."
A cop telling the truth on a report would be truly newsworthy because it would be shocking in its rarity.
So I'm just driving my properly tagged, titled, registered, and insured automobile down the street while obeying all traffic laws; then a cop mistakes my silver Nissan for a grey Toyota, and I end up getting reamed on the roadside because one of them decided he "thought" I had a substance on me that is legal in 19 states?
And of course because qualified immunity I have no recourse.
When police behave this way, we [not criminals] are the enemy and simply the target of their reprisals.
There is at least one YT channel that goes to places where these “accidents” occur and drive around until they get pulled over. Amazing when they have the police scanner audio on the video where the cops get description X and pull over something different.
Some of the police “auditors” make a living doing this via settlements with each jurisdiction. Cops don’t get in trouble but their employer (taxpayer) shells out cash. And if they get a lot of views, they can make a living off the channel’s ad revenue.
