A St. Louis jury has found former police officer Dustin Boone guilty of depriving Detective Luther Hall of his civil rights. Hall was working undercover during 2017 riots when other officers arrested and beat him. The same jury deadlocked on a charge of destruction of evidence against another police officer involved in that case. Three other officers charged in connection with the beating were found not guilty in March. One of the difficulties in the case was proving that the officers acted with malice. But in Boone's case, prosecutors introduced text messages that indicated he was eager to get physical with protesters. "[I]t's gonna be a lot of fun beating the hell out of these sh------s once the sun goes down and nobody can tell us apart!!!!" he wrote in one message. He also texted that he and another officer "just grab f----rs and toss em around." He also wrote, "Did everyone see the protesters getting F---ED UP in the galleria????? That was awesome."

The thing that puzzles me is how the detective beating transactions ended up in front of a jury (or any sort of trial). That is the sort of thing that is supposed to get worked out with the the "law enforcement community" through out of court bargaining.

Exactly! I have and have known several cops who I would consider friends and each one of them has, to some degree, an authoritarian complex. Don't believe the hype about them wanting to serve and protect. It's obvious to me that they joined the police force to serve themselves by thinking they could get a job they could breeze through with minimal effort, receive a huge pension and if shit hit the fan they have the protection of the police union.

That is a broad brush that you are painting with. I have been friends with a bunch of cops and they are not what you describe. They want to protect good people from bad people. They hate writing tickets. They hate having to confront jerkoffs acting badly on the streets. People don't notice the good cops, only the bad ones. They tend to stand out more. They make an unforgettable impression. People don't often admit fault of any kind when they attract the attention of the police. That is why the progressives halted the production of "Cops Live" and other cop shows. The people in the suburbs and the urban areas should see those shows so they understand just how badly the the majority of the "denizens of the ghetto" treat cops that are just trying to do their jobs. Americans can watch urban criminals lie about a crime that they were caught in the act doing. I have several neighbors that are cops and they keep to themselves because they have been demonized by the population for no real reason other than a bunch of BLM supporting nonsense. Reason puts out dozens of stories about bad cops every month. The cops didn't kill 8 and wound 72 last weekend in Chicago. If they did, it would have made it into Reason. Homey and Hector the gang bangers did all that killing if you read the stats, why do they get a pass? Did they not steal people's liberty when they shot them or can only cops steal a person's liberty?
Last year, 800 people were killed and 4000 wounded by street thugs in Chicago. In those murders, less than 5% had a white/asian person involved. White supremacists and cops are the issue as far as the media is claiming, right? The Chicago cops only killed 7 and wounded 13 during a year with rioting, looting, and nearly daily incidents of violence against the police. White supremacists were involved in ZERO shootings or murders in Chicago. "Da troof hurts".

Then there are those who mistakenly believed the cops are there to help until they were the victim of a crime. That's when they learn that cops don't give a shit when there's a victim. I would add 'meaningful' embarassment or guilt. It seemed like closer to 1:50 was extremely dispondent and remorseful that he got high and beat his wife for the 6th time, with equal despair being given to the fact that he showed up to beat his wife *and* the fact that got caught.

A friend became a cop because he wanted to help people. His first assignment in a small city shocked him. We all knew the corruption going on, but he didn't believe it because cops were good and would never be like that. But he quit the first week. He now works for a very tiny town with only five cops on the force. He's so much happier. And he's helping people.

That's a common story. Good cops are not welcome in most police departments. When COPS was still on the air I'd watch it now and again. With few exceptions it was all about using force whenever possible, and grumbling when they actually had to help someone. I'm surprised the show ran as long as it did. The cops being filmed were proud to be scum.
