In cities around the world, crackdowns on protesting can't seem to stop people from pouring out into the streets. Here in the U.S., federal agents just had an hourslong standoff with protestors in Portland after people tied star-shaped balloons with messages about immigration (such as "the U.S. locks up people seeking asylum") taped to them to the gate of a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement building.

Department of Homeland Security officers "advanced on demonstrators soon after they arrived Saturday night…setting off an hours-long, back-and-forth struggle between police and protesters," reports The Oregonian:

Federal officers then used smoke and impact munitions to break up the crowd for the next several hours. Protesters threw playground balls or rocks in response. Federal officers detained several people, although the exact number of arrestees remains unclear….

Saturday's demonstration started with a march from Willamette Park in South Portland. A flier for the event described it as a solidarity march against deportation. As marchers walked, they chanted messages such as "Black Lives Matter!" and "What's outrageous? Kids in cages." Many people carried silver and gold balloons shaped like stars. A fact about U.S. immigrations policy was taped to each balloon.

In Phoenix, "nearly every attendee of a Saturday protest against police in downtown Phoenix was arrested after police say the group marched in the road, knocked barricades into the road, and threw smoke bombs at officers," The Arizona Republic reports:

In total, 15 adults and three teens were arrested, according to Phoenix Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Ann Justus. They face charges including aggravated assault on an officer, riot, criminal damage, unlawful assembly, hindering prosecution, resisting arrest and obstructing a road….

"As officers began making arrests, another incendiary device was thrown at them. Due to the ongoing criminal activity and assault, the Phoenix Police deployed less lethal munitions in order to safely make arrests," Justus said.

Protest group The W.E. Rising Project posted on social media that police hit at least one protester in the face with a pepper ball.

In Seattle, police ordered protesters to disperse after someone allegedly set a small fire and some street signs were spray-painted. It does not seem they arrested the fire starter or the vandals, but they did book five demonstrators for "failure to disperse, pedestrian interference, obstruction and resisting arrest."

Meanwhile, across the Pacific Ocean, "Thai authorities shut down parts of Bangkok's commercial center and crippled public rail networks over the weekend in an effort to prevent young demonstrators from continuing their antigovernment protests," The New York Times informs us. "It didn't work."

Tens of thousands of members of the pro-democracy movement, which has been galvanized by a political awakening among social media savvy students, gathered in Thailand's capital and in about 20 provinces on Saturday and Sunday to call for fresh elections, a new Constitution and reforms to the monarchy's lofty position in Thai society.

In Belarus this weekend, the AP reports, "tens of thousands of people marched…demanding the ouster of the country's authoritarian leader who won his sixth term in office in an election widely seen as rigged."

I saw a generation with one voice during the #PrayerWalk in Ilorin Today.

We prayed in Christianity & in Islam. We prayed for those who have lost their lives to #PoliceBrutality & insecurity & we prayed for our dear country, Nigeria????????.

In Nigeria, "thousands of people have been taking to the streets of Lagos over the past week to protest against police brutality," says Al Jazeera.

Mobilised through online platforms such as Twitter and Facebook, the youth-led protests that began on October 8 initially targeted the federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), a notorious police unit long accused of harassment, torture, extortion and extrajudicial killings.

After days of #EndSARS demonstrations across Nigeria and the diaspora, authorities on Sunday announced the dissolution of SARS and later ordered all personnel to report to the police headquarters in the capital, Abuja, for debriefing and psychological and medical examination. Meanwhile, the forming of a new Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team was announced to replace SARS.

However, the announcements did not satisfy protesters, who viewed them as just another renaming exercise and pledged to stay on the streets until their demands are met.

These include the immediate release of all arrested protesters, justice for all deceased victims of brutality and appropriate compensation for their families, an independent body to oversee the investigation and persecution of all reports of police misconduct, psychological evaluation and retraining of all disbanded SARS officers before they can be redeployed, and an increase in police salary so they are adequately compensated for protecting the lives and property of the citizens.

And in South America…

Tens of thousands of Chileans protested in the streets of Santiago demanding government reform as they marked the one-year anniversary of mass protests that left over 30 dead and thousands more injured https://t.co/imdYDxdo18 pic.twitter.com/Aab1UQgkps

ELECTION 2020

New York Post stands by Biden story as other news outlets question its claims. Two New York Post reporters allegedly declined to have their names attached to the story about Hunter Biden's emails that has become the subject of so much social media drama. "The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal have reported that they could not independently verify the data in the Post article, which included hedging language, referring at one point to an email 'allegedly sent' to Hunter Biden," the Times reports. A New York Post statement said "the story was vetted and The Post stands by its reporting,"

Obama Aides Defend Bank’s Pay to Biden Son
      https://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/25/us/politics/25biden.html?_r=1&sq=MBNA%20biden&st=cse&oref=slogin&scp=1&pagewanted=all

During the years that Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr. was helping the credit card industry win passage of a law making it harder for consumers to file for bankruptcy protection, his son had a consulting agreement that lasted five years with one of the largest companies pushing for the changes, aides to Senator Barack Obama’s presidential campaign acknowledged Sunday.

Mr. Biden’s son, Hunter, received consulting fees from the MBNA Corporation from 2001 to 2005 for work on online banking issues. Aides to Mr. Obama, who chose Mr. Biden as his vice-presidential running mate on Saturday, would not say how much the younger Mr. Biden, who works as both a lawyer and lobbyist in Washington, had received, though a company official had once described him as having a $100,000 a year retainer. But Obama aides said he had never lobbied for MBNA and that there was nothing improper about the payments.

Campaign officials acknowledged that the connection between the Bidens and MBNA, the enormous financial services company then based in their home state of Delaware, was one of the most sensitive issues they examined while vetting the senator for a spot on the ticket.

      1. Nardz   5 years ago

The amount of ignorance regarding basic human psychology required to believe Biden will win is astounding

        1. Red Rocks White Privilege   5 years ago

There's no certainty about the outcome one way or another, particularly considering how the media and BigTech have gone all-in on their partisanship for one political party.

This is just the next step in what they're planning as far as implementing a one-party, one-ideology society under the guise of "democracy." They thought they were getting "40 more years" when Obama was elected and still can't accept that they didn't get it. So they're going to go all-out on doing so, no matter how authoritarian they have to act.

You have mainstream Democrats calling for a Ministry of Truth to be implemented now. They aren't making any effort any more to moderate themselves and are now willing to use force people to go along, or else.

          1. Procyon Rotor   5 years ago

They believe they're at the two yard line and they're pulling out the end zone playbook. Whatever it takes to achieve permanent one-party rule is on the table, and they're making no effort to disguise it anymore. If Biden gets elected and they move for statehood for Puerto Rico or DC, expanding SCOTUS, abolishing the electoral college, or proportional representation in the Senate, well... then it becomes "When in the course of human events..."

        2. mamabug   5 years ago

If Trump wins, it will only be because the amount of votes he receives far exceeds any potential margin of fraud, ballot harvesting, and partisan 'get out the vote' drives in the key swing states in addition to the full-court-4-year press against him by the establishment (left and right).

I hope he does win, not because I like him per se, but because it would mean the American people are smarter than their betters think they are. Elitism in politics is inevitable, but they need a reminder every so often that it is only allowed because, in the process of padding their pockets and cutting deals with cronies, us little people get to benefit too.

          1. Nardz   5 years ago

Yeah it is all fake. That is why the Biden Campaign hasn't said so. No one with any actual knowledge of the situation has said that it is fake. Your idiotic position is that the Post has a fake hard drive provided by the evil Russians and Hunter Biden, the one person who would certainly know if the emails are legit, hasn't gone to the media and said it isn't his hard drive. Also, the Post says the harddrive was seized by the FBI. If the whole thing is fake, either the hard drive never existed and thus the FBI never took it or some hard drive did exist and the FBI has it and no doubt would know that it wasn't genuine. Yet, the FBI hasn't come out and said that they either never seized any hard drive or did and it is a fake that never belonged to Hunter Biden, because you know the FBI is totally friendly to Trump and would withhold such information.

How about you just shut the fuck up. You have nothing to say. Biden is guilty as shit and the evidence is there for all the world to see.

There is exactly zero evidence to believe that the laptop or the emails are fake. That is nothing but a fantasy on their part. Moreover, there is no credible explanation for why if the emails are fake, neither Joe nor Hunter Biden have come out and said so. There is also no explanation for why the FBI hasn't either come forward and said they never seized any hard drive as alleged by the Post or if they did it isn't genuine, which the FBI would certainly have figured out by now.

It is fucking pathetic. Whatever else is on that hard drive that they are going drip out to the public over the next few days or weeks must be devastating to Biden. Otherwise, the Democrats wouldn't be reduced to such a patently absurd and fantastic defense.

      1. Red Rocks White Privilege   5 years ago

That won't happen at this point--it's WAY too late in the process and the MSM/BigTech cabal now have the their talking points (Russia disinformation!) and suppression actions in place (banhammering anyone who mentions it, including the New York Post and House Judiciary accounts).

Short of there being no-kidding, video evidence of Hunter snorting coke out of a Chinese teenage hooker's asscrack, the Democrat/Tech/Media cabal will just go on pretending that the laptop doesn't exist and that they weren't using Hunter as a money bagman for peddling foreign influence.

What really needs to be investigated here is just how deep the US's tentacles are in the Ukrainian government and its business community, because it's not like that country is any less corrupt than Russia.

Sure, but that won't matter to the Democrat bobbleheads. They had that brain worm implanted in 2016.

When Pavlov was doing his behavioral experiments, a serious flood took place that washed out his facility, including several of the dogs. When they finally got everything cleaned up and started the experiments again, he found that all of the conditioning his team had accomplished was completely wiped out due to the intense trauma the dogs had suffered.

That's basically what it's going to take to break that "MUIH RUSSHA!" narrative--an event so traumatic to the shitlibs that it breaks them completely.

The lawyer is pretty much SOL because Hunter, or whomever dropped off the laptop, signed a repair agreement that designated it as abandoned property if they didn't pick it up after a certain amount of time following completion of the repairs. I believe the repair contract said three months, per whatever state law is in place on that.

The shop waited a YEAR and attempted to contact Hunter multiple times, but he never came to pick up his shit. They then contacted the FBI after they went through the machine and found whatever it was that spooked the repair guy enough that the shop owner sent them the contents of the laptop. They also smartly made backup copies, because the FBI is notorious for blackmailing these types of people to act as informers on folks that might have stuff like CP on their computers--they've used Geek Squad techs as bounty hunters, for example.

The fact that the FBI sat on this while a whole impeachment trial was going on over the exact issue discussed in some of these emails is just as scandalous as the potential pay-to-play/influence peddling going on.

When he got to Kramer’s office on Oct. 19, she asked him, “What’s up?” Sitting in a chair, Robertson exhaled deeply and began talking, his knee pumping much of the time. He had told his bosses about the Clinton emails weeks ago. Nothing had happened. Or rather, the only thing that had happened was his boss had instructed Robertson to erase his computer work station. Ostensibly, that was to ensure there was no classified material on it. But it also meant there was no record of what Robertson had done, or had not done, with the laptop information. He was starting to feel like he was going to be made a scapegoat, and he was freaking out. He had already talked to a lawyer.

The prosecutors, Kramer and Lake, thought Robertson was getting paranoid. They also gave him a blunt warning: If Robertson decided to tell outsiders about the emails, he could be prosecuted. The legal rationale behind such a scenario is faulty at best — the fact of the emails’ existence on the laptop was not classified. If Robertson had decided to tell a lawmaker or a reporter about them, that could be a fireable offense, but probably not a criminal one.

FLASHBACK: Top Romney Advisor Served on Board of Burisma with Hunter Biden
      https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/matt-margolis/2020/02/05/flashback-top-romney-advisor-served-on-board-of-burisma-with-hunter-biden-n381190

While Senator Mitt Romney’s decision to vote to convict President Trump on charges of abuse of power sparked Outrage amongst conservatives and supporters of the president, it is perhaps not all that surprising.

Aside from Mitt Romney’s sour relationship with the president, the Utah senator has his own ties to the notoriously corrupt Burisma Holdings—where Hunter Biden served on the board making over $80,000 a month despite lacking experience and qualifications.

Democrats argue that Trump inappropriately pressured Ukraine president Zelensky to investigate the Bidens because of Hunter’s position at Burisma and former Vice President Joe Biden’s pressuring of Ukrainian officials to fire the prosecutor investigating the company corruption.

Romney’s vote to convict on the charge of abuse of power might very well be connected to his own links to the company via one of his top advisers. The Federalist reported back in September that “top Mitt Romney adviser Joseph Cofer Black, who publicly goes by ‘Cofer Black,’ joined Burisma’s board of directors while Hunter Biden was also serving on the board.”

    https://www.city-journal.org/hunter-biden-china-engagement?utm_source=Twitter&utm_medium=Organic_Social

Mainstream media have mostly ignored or dismissed as “old claims” the interim Senate report into Hunter Biden’s shady business dealings in Ukraine, but the most explosive content in the report may be his engagement with China. The report details how the Democratic presidential nominee’s son has “extensive connections to Chinese businesses and Chinese foreign nationals that are linked to the Communist government.”

Consider, for example, the Bohai Harvest RST (BHR) investment fund, partly owned and directed by Hunter Biden and Chris Heinz, the stepson of former Secretary of State John Kerry, through their private equity fund, Rosemont Seneca Partners. Chinese companies, including some large state-owned enterprises such as the Bank of China (BOC), controlled and funded 80 percent of BHR, and Chinese government authorities approved the deal to establish the fund after Hunter Biden traveled to China with then-Vice President Joe Biden in 2013.

Why would China’s largest state-owned bank—whose mandate is to support the Chinese government’s strategic goals with capital—want to start a business with a relatively small and unknown American private equity fund? The obvious answer is to buy influence in the United States through the children of two of the most prominent officials in the Obama administration.

Beijing’s investment in BHR soon paid off. In 2015, the fund played a key role in securing approval by the Obama administration and the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) for the sale of the Michigan-based Henniges Automotive to one of China’s main military aircraft makers, Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC). The approval of this deal surprised many. AVIC had previously been in the news for allegedly stealing “technologies related to the US F-35 stealth fighter,” technologies then used in China’s own new stealth fighter, the J-31.

The DNC has to come up with a substitute presidential nominee now. It's probably too late to get Biden's name off ballots, but they can let it be known the Biden-Harris electors will be voting for someone else. It's conceivable that "TBA" would be their best bet (no candidate baggage, but a pig in a poke), but probably better to have a fairly solid name. Considering voters probably assumed they were voting for Harris ultimately anyway, then their best shot might be a Harris-Sanders ticket.

        1. Red Rocks White Privilege   5 years ago

The DNC has to come up with a substitute presidential nominee now.

Like I said above, that's not going to happen. Democrats tend to do a lot of early voting, and removing him from the ticket now would nullify all those votes--because the vote is for the person, not the party.

They are Ride Or Die with him now--especially because if Trump wins, he's liable to burn BigTech and the FBI to ashes. Meanwhile, if Biden wins, BigTech will be fully empowered to turn their platforms into openly partisan propaganda mills for the DNC, which will have far worse implications in the long run.

The real question: Will we see ENB in Hunter Biden's "collection" of photos?

    1. Gray_Jay   5 years ago

Why? Hunter's a crack head who likes strippers and widows of family members. That doesn't mean he'd give ENB the time of day. Give him some credit.

Unless of course, she had some Tina, and/or wanted to go skiing...

I'm expecting Hunter to be found dead of an overdose really soon. "Driven back to addiction by the Trump campaign" or some similar tripe.

The pandemic has been terrible not only for the human body but also for the body politic. Freedom House, a think-tank in Washington, counts 80 countries where the quality of democracy and respect for human rights have deteriorated since the pandemic began. The list includes both dictatorships that have grown nastier and democracies where standards have slipped. Only one country, Malawi, has improved (see map). Covid-19 “has fuelled a crisis for democracy around the world,” argue Sarah Repucci and Amy Slipowitz of Freedom House. Global freedom has been declining since just before the financial crisis of 2007-08, by their reckoning. Covid-19 has accelerated this pre-existing trend in several ways.

Republican Sen. Ben Sasse criticized President Donald Trump earlier this week during a phone call with constituents, saying a number of unflattering things about the President, including that he's "flirted with White supremacists" and "kisses dictators' butts," his office confirmed to CNN.

"The way he kisses dictators' butts. I mean, the way he ignores that the Uyghurs are in literal concentration camps in Xinjiang right now. He hasn't lifted a finger on behalf of the Hong Kongers," Sasse said in response to a constituent's question about his relationship with Trump and his past criticisms of the President.
"The United States now regularly sells out our allies under his leadership. The way he treats women and spends like a drunken sailor. The ways I criticized President (Barack) Obama for that kind of spending I've criticized President Trump for as well. He mocks evangelicals behind closed doors. His family has treated the presidency like a business opportunity. He's flirted with White supremacists," the Nebraska Republican said.

“The way he kisses dictators’ butts. I mean, the way he ignores that the Uyghurs are in literal concentration camps in Xinjiang right now."

If Ben Sasse cares more about the people of Xinjiang than he does about the benefits of trade to American consumers, then maybe he should go run for office in China.

Is he saying that President Trump should have been tougher on China? I don't think any U.S. president has been as tough as Trump on China since before Nixon.

Meanwhile, Ben Sasse is running for reelection in the Senate, and given the stakes and what may happen if Republicans lose control of the Senate, if he needs to criticize the First Amendment, the Second Amendment, capitalism, and President Trump to get himself reelected, I hope he does so.

      1. John   5 years ago

Wolf Blitzer had the audacity to question Nancy Pelosi about whether average Americans should be held hostage by her partisan posturing on the stimulus bill. He kept on her about why, despite members of her own party saying that average Americans can't wait for the next Congress for help, she refuses to take President Trump up on his offer to meet her halfway on the stimulus bill.

Pelosi went ballistic. She outright said that she wasn't willing to pass a bill to send Americans a check with Donald Trump's name on it, and then she accused Wolf Blitzer (and his collegaues at CNN) of being apologists for the Republicans--and by extension the Trump campaign. She claimed to know more about the suffering of average Americans than anyone else because she was elected by them, etc., etc.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gqPltMpWIwo

I hope the stimulus isn't passed now or ever, but I wish everyone would take a look at that video before they vote for Joe Biden. It isn't just that Pelosi is awful; it's also that she's what passes for a moderate in the Democratic party these days. And moderation for the Democrats these days seems to be all about the level of contempt they hold for average Americans.

The radical half of the Democratic party is contemptuous of average Americans for being fundamentally racist, homophobic, misogynistic, and xenophobic, but the other half--epitomized by Pelosi--is also contemptuous of average Americans and our problems, just in standard elitist terms. She knows what's best for suffering Americans, and it's to let them twist in the wind until the Democrats control the Senate and the White House and can pass a stimulus bill come February?!

Elections are won by people who can appeal to the other party's marginal voters, and if you're someone who thinks stimulus, spending, and paycheck guarantees are a legitimate function of government in tough times like these, why would you vote for the Democrats after seeing Pelosi's interview with Wolf Blitzer? They want to spend stimulus money alright (to bail out the outrageous pension benefits of the state employee unions that support the Democratic party), but they don't want to send you any checks--certainly not if President Trump can claim credit for them.

    1. Commenter_XY   5 years ago

Ken, I believe the electorate is about to deliver a monster middle-finger to the Democrat Party. We endured eight years of their bullshit during Obama's presidency, and 4 years of their seditious behavior. They need to be decisively and utterly defeated at the ballot box.

Biden has the pedophile vote sown up. You certainly are an expert on that. But not being a pedophile doesn't mean you are a redneck.

Biden is also dropping like a rock in even the media push polls that had him ahead by absurd margins since the Hunter Biden bribery emails came out. And it is only going to get worse for him from here. I am quite sure they are saving the best for last on those emails.

Can you believe a four-day lid with just two weeks to go. A fucking joke. The fact that there is no denial from either Biden (sleepy Joe or his crackhead son) is absolutely damning.

      2. Ken Shultz   5 years ago

        I want to believe.

It isn't about the policies at this point.

When people are pissed off, they blame whomever is in charge.

I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.

For man also knoweth not his time: as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare; so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falleth suddenly upon them.

        ----Ecclesiastes 9:11-12

I want to be wrong, but that's what I see happening here.

It's like ObamaCare. Here at Reason, we all knew what would happen and why. Many of us thought there was no way our politicians would shoot themselves in the foot like that, but shoot themselves in the foot they did.

It was like this with the occupation of Iraq. How many times did we say, "Gee, I hope I'm wrong about this"? I hoped that democracy and liberal values would spring to life and grow like an oasis in the desert--just the way the neocons said it would.

This time it's the American people.

I saw a study from the Hoover Foundation that predicted Joe Biden's agenda from the Green New Deal on down, would take $6,000 off of America's GDP per capita--that's our standard of living! I can't believe the American people are giving that up because Trump's tweets are obnoxious and the virus and the lockdowns suck, but I think that's what they're doing.

Hindsight isn't even 20/20. People look back and think our history was always inevitable. The future wasn't inevitable in the past. If we hadn't enacted ObamaCare, we wouldn't be suffering the negative consequences of it still today. If we hadn't occupies Iraq, the negative consequences of it wouldn't have happened. And if we don't elect Biden, we won't suffer the negative consequences of bailing out the states, the Green New Deal, and a new war on guns.

I hope I'm wrong about everything. I hope Trump wins, and if he loses, I hope the Supreme Court isn't packed; I hope the Green New Deal is never passed; the states aren't bailed out of their pensions, and the new war on guns never materializes. If all of those things happen, I hope they turn out to be wonderful ideas! I hope I'm wrong about everything!

Given the facts and some logic, I think we're in trouble.

        1. Ken Shultz   5 years ago

P.S. The reason I hope I'm wrong about everything and everything goes great is because I'm a patriotic American. I love my country and the American people, and I'd rather be wrong than see the the American people suffer.

Let's do a quick review of Brain-Damaged Biden's problems, with 15 days to go until the election.

One, Sleepy Joe really is brain damaged (from brain surgery).
Two, Hunter Biden, crackhead son of Sleepy Joe, is busted.
Three, those emails do not lie, and have now been confirmed.
Four, Brain-Damaged Biden is going to be destroyed at the debate.
Five, early mail returns are not helping Quid Pro Joe.

The tide is turning. The race is narrowing, and more disclosures are coming this week. Remember the steady drip-drip-drip of emails and disclosures about Crooked Hillary back in 2016. Well friends, we are about to see a 2020 repeat with Quid Pro Joe and his crackhead son Hunter. Joe Biden is corrupt AF and he is going to lose the election.

  60. Ra's al Gore   5 years ago

For three days, Joe Biden refused to say a word about The Post's exclusive stories last week linking him to his son Hunter's business deals in the Ukraine and China.
It wasn't till 7:45 p.m. Friday, at the Detroit airport that the former vice president briefly stopped for questions and CBS reporter Bo Erickson asked about the damning e-mails found on Hunter's laptop, which was abandoned last April at a Mac repair shop.

"I have no response," snapped Joe. "Another smear campaign. Right up your alley."

A video of Joe's remarks on Erickson's Twitter account has been viewed 6 million times.

But for some in the media, Erickson was at fault for asking the question.

"Bo, this is your News Director," replied Steve Holzer, a UCLA journalism instructor and news director who has worked at CBS in the past, but not currently, according to his LinkedIn profile. "The right question is, what do you think of the report that Rudy Giuliani used Russian disinformation to try to smear your family 19 days before an election?"

A Biden campaign surrogate on Sunday did not deny the authenticity of the alleged Hunter Biden emails and texts that were published in the New York Post last week.

“I don’t think anybody is saying they are inauthentic,” Biden campaigner Jenna Arnold admitted on Fox News after repeatedly trying to steer the conversation to other topics.

Arnold is a national organizer for the Women’s March on Washington, and author of the book, Raising Our Hands, which calls for white women to be “more engaged as citizens.”

Facebook ‘Content Regulation Manager’ Anna Makanju Advised Joe Biden on Ukraine
    https://www.breitbart.com/tech/2020/10/18/facebook-content-regulation-manager-anna-makanju-advised-joe-biden-on-ukraine/

Facebook’s global policy manager for content regulation, Anna Makanju, advised Joe Biden on Ukraine policy during his time as Vice President. She also defended Biden from charges of wrongdoing with regards to Ukraine in a comment to the Washington Post last year.

Her position as a senior employee at Facebook handling content regulation may have given her an opportunity to influence the social network’s decision to suppress a New York Post story revealing that Joe Biden’s son Hunter, then on a lucrative contract with the Ukrainian energy giant Burisma, introduced the then-Vice President to an executive at the company.

This occurred less than a year before the then-VP pressured the Ukrainian government into firing a prosecutor who was investigating the company.

Makanju is also a fellow at the Atlantic Council, which partnered with Facebook in 2018 to promote “election integrity” around the world.

Her profile at the Atlantic Council covers Mananju’s ties to Biden:

Anna Makanju is a nonresident senior fellow with the Transatlantic Security Initiative. She is a public policy and legal expert working at Facebook, where she leads efforts to ensure election integrity on the platform. Previously, she was the special policy adviser for Europe and Eurasia to former US Vice President Joe Biden, senior policy adviser to Ambassador Samantha Power at the United States Mission to the United Nations, director for Russia at the National Security Council, and the chief of staff for European and NATO Policy in the Office of the Secretary of Defense.

A 2019 article in the Washington Post notes that Makanju — now in an influential position allowing her to steer Facebook’s content moderation — also specifically defended Biden, her former employer, from allegations of wrongdoing with regards to Ukraine.

    https://www.frontpagemag.com/fpm/2020/10/muslim-beheads-man-french-street-and-here-we-go-robert-spencer/

It happened again on Friday: a Muslim migrant from Chechnya, screaming “Allahu akbar,” beheaded a schoolteacher, Samuel Paty, on a street in a Paris suburb for the crime of showing cartoons of Muhammad to his students. Let’s see. Muslims make up around one percent of America’s population. So if the administration of President Biden (or President Harris, or President Pelosi) is actually going to “look like America,” it will feature one Muslim appointee for every ninety-nine non-Muslim appointees.

Of course, the Democrats are unlikely to be that rigorous. Biden needs the support of the hard-Left, including not only Muslims such as Omar, Tlaib, Sarsour and their Muslim supporters, but their non-Muslim supporters as well, who are likely thrilled that Biden will be “inclusive” enough to place large numbers of Muslims in positions of power and influence. And in doing so, the Biden/Harris/Pelosi administration is unlikely to make any effort whatsoever to rule Sharia supremacists, Muslim Brotherhood operatives, and enemies of the freedom of speech out of consideration. Why, that would be “Islamophobic.”

Above, I referenced the Hoover Institution's analysis of the consequences of Joe Biden's policies on the American economy (it just came out over the weekend).

    Here's the gist of it:

"We conclude that, in the long run, Biden’s full agenda reduces fulltime equivalent employment per person by about 3 percent, the capital stock per person by about 15 percent, real GDP per capita by more than 8 percent, and real consumption per household by about 7 percent".

We estimate that the full Biden agenda will reduce long-run real GDP per capita by more than 8 percent as a result of reducing full-time equivalent employment (FTEs) per person by 3 percent, the capital stock per person by 15 percent and total factor productivity by 2 percent. Relative to the CBO’s 2030 projections, this suggests there will be 4.9 million fewer employed individuals, $2.6 trillion less GDP, and $1.5 trillion less consumption in that year alone. Median household income in 2030 would be $6,500 less.

    ----Hoover Institution at Stanford University

    (Bold added by yours truly.)

    https://www.hoover.org/sites/default/files/research/docs/president_bidens_economic_agenda_hassett.pdf

GDP per capita is the rule of thumb measure of our standard of living. There are a number of ways to increase our standard of living; for instance, trade with countries that can manufacture consumer goods for less means American consumers can buy the same things for less money and have more left over to buy other or better things they couldn't afford to buy before. On the other hand, if Joe Biden arbitrarily increases the cost of energy, now we're making people pay more for the same things--and there are things we used to be able to afford that we can't afford anymore. That makes the standard of living go down in real terms.

In the USA, our GDP per capita was about $63,051 in 2020 (link below).

I know it's hard for progressives to feel like there is value when we don't suffer the consequences of mistakes we choose to avoid, but the fact is that the economy will grow at one pace if things stay more or less the way they are now and at a much slower pace if Joe Biden inflicts higher corporate taxation on the economy and hits us with the Green New Deal he's proposed, etc.

That $6,500 won't all come out of your paycheck. A lot of it will come out of your employer's bottom line or places like the service industry--where jobs will either disappear or never materialize like they would have. The more unemployed people there are, who aren't contributing anything of value to the economy, the lower the GDP per capita. That's just one example.

The progressives think you'll never notice the home you never bought but would have bought if it hadn't been for them. They think you'll never notice the vacations you never took. They think you won't miss the opportunities that never materialized--but would have been there for you if it wasn't for them. But those things are probably the very best reason for average Americans to vote against them. The progressives want to take your hopes, dreams, and standard of living out back, march them up against a wall, and shoot them.
