Trump Announces Higher Tariffs. At Least He Called Them 'Taxes.'
Existing tariffs on Chinese imports will jump to 30 percent from 25 percent, and the next round of tariffs will be 15 percent instead of 10 percent.

In a series of Friday evening tweets, President Donald Trump announced that he will hike existing tariffs on Chinese imports to 30 percent from 25 percent and will increase the next round of tariffs to 15 percent from 10 percent.
But at least he's finally admitting that tariffs are taxes:
…Additionally, the remaining 300 BILLION DOLLARS of goods and products from China, that was being taxed from September 1st at 10%, will now be taxed at 15%. Thank you for your attention to this matter!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 23, 2019
Trump was apparently unhappy with China's decision to impose new tariffs on American automobiles, oil, and industrial exports starting September 1—tariffs that were a retaliation for Trump's previous announcement that he would impose a new set of tariffs on Chinese imports on the same date.
Shortly after Trump's tweets were issued, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative clarified that the new 15 percent tariffs would be imposed "on the already scheduled dates" for implementation—in other words, the items that were supposed to remain tariff-free until after the holiday shopping season will still be held aside. That's a minor reprieve for consumers, who figure to bear the brunt of the next set of tariffs.
The announcement of a new tax hike on Americans marked the end of a tumultuous week for the stock market, which had dropped sharply earlier on Friday after another set of Trump tweets in which he (ridiculously) "ordered" American businesses to pull back from doing business with China.
Trump's rage-tweeting today and his impulsive decision to hike taxes on American businesses and consumers—at a time when he's reportedly worried about a potential recession—is yet more evidence that the trade war with China is anything but "good and easy to win."
For those keeping score at home, 30% tax on $250 billion imports+15% tax on $300 billion=$120 billion in taxes, or $941/household based on 127,586,000 households

Announced after ANOTHER OF HIS MARKET CRASHES ... but waited til the markets had closed for the weekend.
After going FULL fascist and "hereby ordering" private businesses to obey his diktats ... which even FDR never did.
The humiliation of ADMITTING a possible recessions ... on top of his OTHER economic failure , .... a total mental breakdown is now even more likely than a recession.
And LIBERTARIANS know the market crash of 1929 was caused by ... TARIFFS. The same day the Hawley-Smoot Tariff was voted out of committee.
This fucker's going INSANE.
Yay. Hihn is here to end the conversation early.
TLDR-“a total mental breakdown”
ITT Tulpa folds Hihn up like a soccer ball and drops him off at the girls middle school soccer practice where he gets kicked around for a couple hours.

At least the white supremacist maggots will not be able to contend that we're not paying those tariffs.
Stupid cunts. Those homicidal and economically-illiterate morons will be replaced, eventually, by far better people.
Two bigots in a row! Hihn vs OM. This is guaranteed to be a shit show.
Don't sell yourself short - Tiki Torch man.
Don’t post kiddie porn Dildo.
I mean, OM's not wrong.
The end of OM’s post reeks of Kirkland.
Which is sad, because I generally agree with him.
“At least the white supremacist maggots”
It’s just the end you’re not good with?
They prefer to be called "MAGATs" I believe.
That was actually pretty funny dildo.
I don’t think everyone that disagrees with him or the broader open borders position is one, but they are objectively shitty people.
And Kiddie Raper makes three!
Or we could solve the problem by conquering Mexico.
Canada first. After Greenland.
Then Mexico.
What exactly is the end game here? Does anyone even know?
Part of me believes that no amount of concessions on the part of the Chinese government would matter at this point, Trump has taken a "get tough" posture towards China as a part of his re-election strategy. Any actual trade deal between China and the US would be a give-and-take compromise deal, and then Trump or his lackeys would have to be put into the position of having to defend the compromises he would have had to make w.r.t. China, which doesn't jive with a "get tough" posture.
There's not going to be any relief from sanctions until 2021 at the earliest, where either a Democrat is elected and the tariffs are modified or rescinded, or Trump is re-elected and then actual negotiations to a trade deal are conducted in earnest.
You have a point. If he truly compromises, he risks losing a lot of credibility and he'd have to start defending whatever deals are made. He'll probably be able to be "more flexible" after (if) he get's re-elected. We've seen this kind of brinkmanship before.
It is a dick measuring contest and old Trumpy rarely wins those - even against a China-man.
(source - Stormy Daniels)
And if anybody knows about small dick measuring it is the guy who searches out and posts child porn.
I read Stormy's book!
Like true Trump Trash all you have are lies.
You admitted to it dumbfuck. Your admission gets reposted every time you show up.

Fuck you and your lying ass. That 'KP' abbreviation you and Tulpa use gives you away, You can't even mimic me right. Get a lesson from OBL on how to mimic.
No, that was you Dildo.
Kiddie Raper needs a small hole for his tiny Chinee chubby.
I had forgotten you were also a racist.
Race Realist, pal.
Calling out people for kiddie porn is racist?
Apparently I’m racist too. Even though my wife and daughter are mixed race. A progtard once told me it was out of a diabolical plan to throw people off of my racism.
But then, progtards are the dumbest creatures in all of creation.
Shit, did I reply to Tulsa instead of shriek? Damn threading.
Using a slur like “China-man” is but one of many ways shriek shows his racism. Calling him out for posting kiddie porn is just a public service.
Let's see what people thought under obama...

Holy shit, you mean china is a dishonest actor who steals various IP through corporate espionage!!! Who knew?!? I mean this has only been going on for 30 years. Maybe somebody should do something instead of just accepting the shit status quo. Nah. That would be insane.
FOX ABANDONS SINKING SHIP
Fox News leaves Trumpsters all alone, twisting in the wind … babbling
None of that makes any sense Mary.
The fact is Trump’s best economic growth is 3.5 percent in two quarters out of the 10 quarters he’s been in office,
** 3.5 percent, is Obama’s seventh best quarter,
Ouch!
Trump Trash says you cherry pick!
You can’t really say it’s a revenue problem when you bring in more taxes then you did the year before. That’s pretty obviously a spending problem.
Oh, and Obama kicked and screamed about the sequestration that helped cut the deficit down, so I’m not sure he deserves credit for that.
Shrug.
I kinda thought everyone did that. That is why those corporate patent lawyers make so much money. Of course in an international situation you can’t really sue.
If we are talking military I hope we have the best spies, spooks and hackers.
Trump dragged out of the White House ... in a strait jacket. As Pence pays homage to the Christian Taliban.
“Trump dragged out of the White House … in a strait jacket.“
You guys could end up in rooms next to each other!
chem....you ask a fair question, I shall answer.
"What exactly is the end game here? Does anyone even know?"
The end game is to change Red Chinese behavior. That is, to concretely and definitively demonstrate Red China that the cost of continuing serial lying, serial cheating, and serial theft of American IP will be much greater than the cost of changing their behavior to stop their lying, cheating and stealing American IP. The means by which to demonstrate this cost difference is tariffs. It really is not all that complicated.
To play this game at this level, you need patience. Over time, the accumulated cost will force Red China to reassess their behavior. I do not see a resolution to this anytime soon chem, even if POTUS Trump is re-elected. Red China will not just roll over and cry uncle. They will put off doing anything until there is no realistic policy alternative they can implement that staves off cratering their economy and fomenting political unrest in the mainland. Here in the US, I expect to see a lot of volatility in the markets, with a lot of sideways movement year-on-year, starting in 2020. Not to worry, instead of record profits currently being reporting by the S&P 500 companies, it will be more 'ho hum'. They'll scream and whine, but the fact is, they are still making plenty of money.
We have never before had a POTUS that was completely free of political influence. POTUS Trump owes no one anything. There are no political favors to repay from huge campaign contributions. He cannot be bought by anyone. He is immune to the caterwauling of those who are weak-willed, and refuse to see this through.
If we do not act now, when we actually have the financial wherewithal to do so, then when? Because if we do not act now, a time will come where we will not be able to force a change in Red Chinese behavior.
Underneath all of this, I think POTUS Trump is fighting for some very libertarian values that seem to get lost in the 'heat' of political discussion. And we really should be talking about those values. Namely, that a transaction is a voluntary exchange of value for value, is transparent (is honest), and occurs under agreed upon rules (a contract). It is hard for me to conceive of more libertarian values than those.
I thought you asked some fair questions, chem. And I have answered.
Well said.
Must be that time of the month, Trump's back to whining like a little bitch about how unfair the mean girls are being. How the hell his whining and crying all the damn time is supposed to make him a rough and tough manly man is beyond me. Suck it up, buttercup, you should have known going into it that China lies and cheats and steals - did you really not expect them to fight back and to fight dirty? Go get your butt buddy Kim to threaten China, maybe?
Hey OT but been seeing these ads for a laser “bullet” you can put in your gun and shoot at a “target” app on your cell phone.
It looks like fun. Has anyone tried it?
Looked again it comes with a full size target and hooks up to your phone and maps your “hits”.
Really thinking of getting it.
That actually sounds like fun. I prefer shooting at 300+ yards and having to account for wind, mirage, etc. But for short-range pistol shooting? Sure!
The company is iTarget. Ordered it so will post something after I get a chance to try it out. Looks like fun anyway. The kit is $100 and comes with everything and one “bullet” in the caliber of your choice. They have most of the popular ones.
They say that the bullet has a rubber backing so it will not harm your firing pin.
I can post after I get a chance to play around with it.
Very cool.
It's kind of funny watching most of the commenters here hurling personal insults and jabs at each other... whether Trump is crazy.... who posted what.... etc, etc, ad absurdum.
Meanwhile, Trump, like Obama and Bush before him, is taking money out of your pockets and spending it on whatever he wants, telling it's good for you, and leaving you, your children, and your grandchildren to pocket the bill.
Then do something about it, bitch.
Otherwise: shut the fuck up
Why would I "shut the fuck up?" As far as "doing something about it," well, I do vote. (Though, I admit, when I lived in CA, there wasn't much to choose from.) And, I do contribute, financially (though not in huge amounts, since I am not "wealthy") to local- and state-level orgs which defend the RTKBA. I will also admit it's sort of fun seeing how much of a reaction I can get from a post. Certainly more entertaining than most television. So, I will "shut the fuck up" when it ceases to be entertaining. Have a good evening!
You're entertained by repeating empty platitudes?
You have fun getting no respect?
I guess that explains your constant appeals to the dickless squad
Nadless Nardless is part of the "Kintergarden Crew" here who posts the endless drivel with very little real humor, original thought, or genuine insight. Just endless playground insults.
"You’re entertained by repeating empty platitudes?"
That's pretty rich, coming from the likes of Nadless Nardless!
Oh yes, I absolutely LIVE for getting "respect" or from nameless, faceless caricatures on this site.
Seriously, though, could you be a little more original? It's more fun. Have a great day!
You've never had an original thought in anything you've posted here, so be wary of bringing the subject up.
Keep up the "progress uber alles" feelz though - I'm sure the dickless squad loves it.
(yawn)
Funny, I thought congress controlled appropriations.
Tell Trump,
afterIF you get a brainIndeed, Congress develops the budget. But Congress doesn't directly control tariffs, and, even with the budget, Trump does have the power of the veto.
"Meanwhile, Trump, is taking money out of your pockets and spending it on whatever he wants.." ---
What a lie!! U.S. Goods got a HUGE FREAK-EN TAX-CUT......
And you're gonna sit there and complain that working citizens aren't subsidizing your China POS goods that you have to replace every week...........
You have a choice (Unlike Obamacare); don't want to pay your fair share to import - then buy American...
So, more taxes = good? More monies taken out of people's pockets and finding their way into the federal coffers is good?
Tax-Cuts are good.. Tariffs that cover all the subsidizing we do to foreign companies is "better" than nothing at all. I'll support cutting Tariffs just as soon as China respects IP, We no longer subsidize imported shipping (drop from the UPU treaty) and stop selling our debt via Treasury bonds to China.
When all that happens I'll be against Tariffs too; but will be more in favor of Domestic Tax Cuts.
So you don't mind subsidizing the governments efforts to bring China into line, or to encourage new partnerships outside of China? Gee, isn't reducing the effect of China what, largely, the Trans Pacific Partnership was all about? And if so, why did Trump oppose it?
If we think US-based companies are going to reinvest their money in the US, then we are being played for a fool. While some may reinvest in US-based factories, I guarantee you they will be 99% automated. What appears to be happening is, that while some companies are beginning to realign their investments in China, they are investing more in other Asian countries, and in some cases, more in Mexico, which is exactly what the TPP was designed to do.
So tell me again, how is it good for the American people to stop them from buying what they want, and forced to contribute more to the federal government. Or is having fewer choices, and more costly choices, good? Unless, of course, being less-wealthy, with a commensurate reduction in life-style, is an idea you like.
You said it -- "they are investing more in other Asian countries, and in some cases, more in Mexico, which is exactly what the TPP was designed to do."
And thus; why Trump opposed it.. And thus; why Trump is deregulating.. And thus; why Trump is cutting domestic tax.
In my book "Making America Great Again" doesn't involve importing and borrowing 2/3rds of consumer goods while only returning that debt on 1/3rd exports. Our country has become a debt liability and that is what Trump is fixing head on.
Your idea that, "American people to stop them from buying what they want, and forced to contribute more to the federal government."
... is nothing short of ...
saying the government must !!-subsidize-!! (on debt) peoples buying habits of imported goods or else is some delusional way are actually "forcing" them stop buying.
Its the old tax-cuts are "stealing" (as-if) money from those poor lazy people clause.
LOL. Too funny. Hey, it's your perfect right, and everyone's here, to voice their opinion. At least as long as the host of the site, allows it. And if I think that a whole lot of folks here seem to, all-too-often, act like a bunch of spoiled, adolescent school-boys, well, I reserve the right to comment on it. Have a great weekend!
“Our great American companies are hereby ordered to immediately start looking for an alternative to China, including bringing your companies HOME and making your products in the USA”
You Trump supporters actually read this.
You are prepared to defend this on authoritarian fascist on a libertarian website.
“Our great American companies are hereby ordered to immediately start looking for an alternative to China, including bringing your companies HOME and making your products in the USA”
I wonder if he ever met past Don J Trump who used cheap Chinese steel, didn't buy American, didn't hire American (his job sites rampant with illegals) to build his business. Not that I think anyone has to, but if you're gonna talk the talk, make sure your backyard is clean.
Have we officially jumped the shark yet? In a follow up question to this he put out there something about him being fully able to make this declaration due to national emergencies act.
At the least, it will be very entertaining at least to see the usual MAGA clowns do mental gymnastics to defend this statement while claiming they are totes libertarian and everyone else just has TDS though.
The mental gymnastics required to reflexively defend everything that Trump does must be exhausting to these people.
Yes, it can be... But its better than living in a country ran by stupidity. Stupid propaganda requires/deserves to be defeated because one never knows when stupidity (like Hitler) will get enough followers to tear apart a civilization.
Good job ShotgunJimbo!!!
Orange Man bad?!? He BAD, all right! He SOOO BAD, He be GOOD! He be GREAT! He Make America Great Again!
We KNOW He can Make America Great Again, because, as a bad-ass businessman, He Made Himself and His Family Great Again! He Pussy Grabber in Chief!

He pussy-grab His creditors in 7 bankruptcies, His illegal sub-human workers ripped off of pay on His building projects, and His “students” in His fake Get-Rich-like-Me reality schools, and so on. So, He has a GREAT record of ripping others off! So SURELY He can rip off other nations, other ethnic groups, etc., in trade wars and border wars, for the benefit of ALL of us!!!
All Hail to THE Pussy Grabber in Chief!!!
Most of all, HAIL the Chief, for having revoked karma! What comes around, will no longer go around!!! The Donald has figured out that all of the un-Americans are SOOO stupid, that we can pussy-grab them all day, every day, and they will NEVER think of pussy-grabbing us right back!
To say this showdown with China is years overdue is an understatement.
Trump knows this is a fight China cannot win and I've bet China knows this too. This is evident on the massive downturn of the Chinese economy since Trump instigated the tariffs. They are printing money like crazy and having to dramatically devalue their currency. The American economy under trump is soaring. Trump delayed this fight with China for when the American economy would be more than capable of withstanding the effects of China imposing tariffs on American imports. He knew this would be an obvious implication to starting this trade war. There has been a minimal effect on the American economy because there is a massive trade imbalance between China and America. This had to be addressed and everyone knows it. This trade balance could not continue, but Obama never had a strong enough economy to take on China. It is to Trump's credit that he has created a strong enough economy to do, though you will never see anyone on the left give him the credit he deserves.
The end result is inevitable. China will fold. They will have no choice. Trump will get everything he wants out of this war and it will happen before 2020 because China cannot hold out until he election especially when it gets to the point where American companies realise there is little benefit to staying in China and decide to move back to America.
"Trump will get everything he wants out of this war..."
Trump will win the dick-measuring contest in his own mind, which really doesn't need ANY more self-inflation.
"When goods and services stop crossing borders, boots and armies soon will." Trade wars can lead to shooting wars. Y'all Trump-Dick-suckers can Trump-suck all day long, while we pay ever higher and higher taxes (tariffs), but what will you say if you get shot or nuked dead in WW III?
If you don't believe that a LOT of our troubles are due to the Ego-Inflated brainless Wonder, see the below list of genuine Trump quotes:
Quotes from The Donald in the “Anti Gravity” column in August 2017 “Scientific American” magazine follow:
“I have great genes and all that stuff, which I’m a believer in”,
“God helped me by giving me a certain brain”,
“I have a very, very high aptitude”,
“Maybe it’s just something you have. You know, you have the winning gene.”
Google the quotes, they are real…
Excellent points.
Trump is notoriously thin skinned and cannot tolerate even the most harmless of joshing.
The problem with a [certain segment] of Trump supporters is they never admit when certain policies he enacts are off track. Trump has done positive things for the economy and he has done shitty things as well. They can’t man up and admit when he fudges up. Sycophantic apologists.
What do you want from a guy who eats KFC and pizza with a knife and fork. Dainty. And this is the warrior in Chief.
When they were on the move the Mongols would take a sack of meat and place it under the saddle. The heat and sweat would make it into a sort of meal. Sometimes they would make a small nick in the horses vein and drink some blood for nourishment. These were the people China fought.
Yep the Chinese are terrified.
This is not a 'dick-measuring' contest. As I have stated but you completely failed to understand, this is a trade war which every other president has ignored for decades to the ultimate detriment of the American workers. Past presidents have watched over the rapid decline in the manufacturing as more and more companies have moved their operations to China for cheap labour to maximise profits with no consequences. Do you honestly believe this can continue indefinitely. These companies cannot be allowed to take their manufacturing abroad and sell their goods back to Americans far cheaper than if these goods were manufactured in America. Year on year the trade balance has increased dramatically and it is the American worker who has lost out.
As for this turning into a 'shooting war' you are completely deluded if this is what you believe. No country in the world would go to war with America over a trade dispute. What a ridiculous conclusion.
The rest of your rant confirms your TDS and is completely without any basis in reality.
China cannot hold out.
Yea it only took them 200 years to build the Great Wall
A civilization thousands of years old cannot possibly hold out against Donald Trump until 2020. To the Chinese we are upstarts who don’t know anything.
One advantage of an authoritarian centrally controlled government is they do not need to worry about polls and elections. China has the advantage here. They think long term.
Donald Trump wrote the Art of the Deal. It was a Chinese General Sun Tzu who long ago wrote The Art of War. One of those is a classic.
China has been conquered many times, most recently by the Japanese in WWII. This is not about a physical war as much as you deluded leftists want to paint it as such.
The bottom line is that China sells a shit load more to America than the reverse, therefore tariffs are far more destructive to their trade with America than the reverse. This is evident in the dramatic downturn in the Chinese economy in recent months where as the American economy is growing far faster. The massive trade imbalance is Trumps main weapon in this trade war. It is also a war which should have been fought by many presidents in the past. The strong American economy is why American can continue without any major upheaval where as China cannot continue much longer. This trade war will end sooner rather than later before China looses any major American companies which their economy depends upon.
This is now about China saving face because they absolutely cannot win.
Been posting these random music links nobody else cares about.
I have been watching old westerns lately on Netflix.
It made me think of this. If you have not seen it. It is unforgettable in a charming weird fun way.

LOL. That's funny. You know, Tulpa, once in a while I actually agree with your position on a given subject. Once or twice I have even pointed that out to you. Yet you insist I am a sock puppet.
I read the "New Racism" on your blog. Interesting, and well-composed. Growing up in Oakland, CA, and then moving to (then lily-white) Redding, CA, I also had to deal with a rather "new" sort of racism. It can be a challenge.
If you get some pleasure out of imagining that I am, in reality, someone else, well, hell, go for it. Have fun!
