    Starve the beast? Other than a Libertarian who might pull 2% of the vote, what politician wants to proudly declare he is "soft on crime?" Justice reform is going to take many decades of candidates who want to say and do what is right while accepting they won't win (or be re-elected) office.

      You can be tough on crime while not being for bullshit laws. Tough on murder, tough on theft, tough on institutionalized corruption, tough on rape, etc. A politicians does NOT need to promise to stick it to the underdog to be tough on crime.
