'I Kill Motherfuckers'

A white police officer threatened to detain two black men for "walking in the street."

A viral video appears to show a Chicago police officer telling a pair of black men, "I kill motherfuckers."

The video, posted to Facebook on Monday, begins with a white police officer in an unmarked car being approached by at least two young black men. "I kill motherfuckers," the cop says, before telling them to stop filming him. "How about I lock you up for walking in the street?" he adds.

The officer claims the man filming was "illegally" walking across the street. Eventually, he gets out of his car and starts following both men. "You want to know the good news though?" the officer asks. "Illinois is a two-party consent state and I don't consent to you recording me."

The man filming, meanwhile, replies that he was recording himself on Snapchat and the officer "hopped in the camera." The officer then claims the man filming hit his shoe, and uses that as an excuse to get in his face.

The officer was correct in his assertion that Illinois is a two-party consent state, but that doesn't seem to appy here. In Illinois, citizens don't need consent to film others, including police officers, as long they aren't doing so secretly and aren't infringing on the other party's reasonable expectation of privacy. Since this incident occurred in public, and the officer knew he was being filmed, it doesn't appear that the man filming did anything wrong.

According to WFLD, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability has opened an investigation into the incident.

Police misconduct has been a nationwide theme in recent days. A video posted to Facebook last week showed an unnamed El Paso police officer pointing a gun at a group of children, then arresting the young man who filmed the incident. Earlier in the week, a drunk off-duty officer with the New York Police Department allegedly crashed his car and punched a witness before attempting to flee the scene.

Cops have an expectation of privacy in every thing they do.

He could have actually killed them and still would be found innocent of wrongdoing.

I’m making $80 an hour working from home. I was shocked when my neighbour told me she was averaging $120 but I see how it works now. I feel so much freedom now that I’m my own boss. This is what I do… http://easyjob.club

  3. Jerryskids   7 years ago

Did he say “I kill motherfuckers” or did he say “I kill, motherfuckers” ? In the first case, non-motherfuckers have no need to worry so I can’t see where this would be considered a threat. Unless the guys filming were in fact motherfuckers, but how was the poor cop to know he was addressing motherfuckers?

Of course, he could have been saying “I kid, monkey fighters.”

“Everyone knows” that all non-cops are motherfuckers. QED.

      1. Zeb   7 years ago

Unless you are NWA. Then all cops are motherfuckers. And everyone else too, which gets confusing.

        1. Cynical Asshole   7 years ago

It’s motherfuckers all the way down.

          1. Trollificus   7 years ago

This is true. It comes from a mistranslation of a 17th century discussion between Jesuit Emanual de Veiga and a Hindu philosopher.

Upon having it explained to him that the earth had 9 corners, each supported by a great elephant, de Veiga asked “And upon what do the elephants stand?”. The Hindu savant replied “Why, upon a great tortoise.” de Veiga, of course, then asked “What supports the tortoise then?”

The Hindu replied “Motherfucker.” and walked off. Since the Indian for “Tortoises all the way down.” is so similar to “Motherfucker”, it’s an understandable confusion.

    RACE WARS!

It’s just so fucking tiresome…I now tune out any article that refers to skin color as a point of reference.

    1. Demosthenes   7 years ago

Yeah, I’m sure you paid really close attention to those articles up to now.

The first rule of RACE WAR is to impung your opponent as a racist!

    2. Rhywun   7 years ago

This new guy seems have been stuck on the “make everything about race” beat.

      1. MP   7 years ago

Surveying his work, race baiting doesn’t seem to be that dominant. Still, good ole Joe S does to a fair bit of culture war trolling.

    3. Happy Chandler   7 years ago

It’s not like Chicago police have a problem of systemic racism.

  6. JunkScienceIsJunk   7 years ago

I get that conservatives feel the need to defend police officers for literally everything they do (and I literally mean “literally”). But there’s a degree of professionalism that people from all political backgrounds should expect from police officers. It’s not hard or controversial to ask that they conduct themselves in a professional manner, instead of stooping down and arguing with kids for no particular reason.

    1. LynchPin1477   7 years ago

The uniform makes all of their behaviour de facto professional. It’s a very sharp uniform.

      1. Cynical Asshole   7 years ago

If they really want to be “professional” they should get some big name designer to design their uniforms. Anyone know what Hugo Boss is up to these days?

He’s dead, but the brand lives on, waiting for the right fascists to work with. Kinda like Edna Mode, but with fascists.

    2. BYODB   7 years ago

Maybe they should stop requiring that recruits have below a certain IQ threshold to become officers. That might be a good start, but we’re told smart people would just find it too boring and quit. Sounds legit, right?

    3. gimmedatribeye   7 years ago

I’m conservative. And I hate cops. Apparently that’s rare.

    4. Rossami   7 years ago

What conservatives have stepped in to defend this particular police officer? For that matter, do you have evidence that anyone at all is defending this moron (other than his union rep – an entirely different problem)?

      1. Trollificus   7 years ago

Yeah, there’s an equally valid counterperception that the problem with lack of LEO accountability is with the “PUBLIC EMPLOYEES UNION” part of the equation, not the dumb conservatives posting on comment threads part. That kind of changes everything wrt who’s responsible for the problem, since dumb conservatives posting on the internet have…wait, let me calculate this out…carry the nothin’, ZERO power, and police unions have all the power in fighting accountability, and usually have, politically beholden to them, Democratic mayors.

An odd pronunciation of the word “retard” at the end of the video, btw. Almost like a verb.

Considering the IL law was updated specifically to allow for recording of police officers at work, something tells me this cop is a fucking liar and not simply ignorant.

  11. mad.casual   7 years ago

Civilian Office of Police Accountability has opened an investigation into the incident.

That’s the newly minted COPA that replaced the known-to-be-crooked Independent Police Review Authority that folded in order to allow Emmanuel to remain Mayor after slow-walking the Laquan McDonald case. The same COPA that couldn’t oust Eddie Johnson (Emmanuel’s Police Chief) after finding that Rialmo wrongly shot Betty Jones (and Quintonio Legrier). I wouldn’t hold my breath on them picking up and running with “Officer Fuckstick caught being fuckstick on camera.”

  12. Jerryskids   7 years ago

According to WFLD, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability has opened an investigation into the incident.

COPA being the latest iteration of a civilian oversight board, the last one being dissolved after it *Spoiler Alert!* turned out to be a toothless committee designed to cover up rather than to expose police misconduct. This board, however, is headed by a veteran law enforcement official so I’ve got a good feeling about it.

    1. Trollificus   7 years ago

Did you leave off the /sarc tag, or do you really think a function of Chicago city government might NOT be corrupt? Real question.

  13. mad.casual   7 years ago

God I hope the officer’s first name is Michael.

  14. sharmota4zeb   7 years ago

How in the world do fools like this get hired to be cops?

    1. Cynical Asshole   7 years ago

The job specifically attracts fools like this guy.

  15. JonFrum   7 years ago

I don’t approve of fucking your mom, but if you did I certainly wouldn’t shout about it.

  16. majil   7 years ago

Perfect example of why all cops deserve it when they are shot in the face .
I just do not care when a cop is shot or beaten to death anymore. They are subhuman to me.
We need to get back to the days when a person had the right to defend themselves against the police .
As soon as some of then start getting shot when the pull their guns on some 10 year olds or get their asses beat for harassing people things will calm down .

The patrolman was merely letting his constituents know he strongly disapproves of lasciviousness towards our maternal guardians. As with all BLUE LIVES, we must grant the brave soldier the benefit of the doubt. Honestly, when has an officer ever abused their power?

    So…
how was race a relevant part of this story?

Appropriate headline: “Cop is a dick to two passersby”
But I guess, as all progressives know, skin color is the most important thing about a person. I’ll just have to learn to start judging people by the color of their skin rather than, you know, the content of their character

    1. JunkScienceIsJunk   7 years ago

      So…
how was race a relevant part of this story?

The question to ask yourself is whether you are more, less, or equally likely to be harassed by the cops for jaywalking if you’re black. The assumption — supported by scientific studies — is that you are more likely. That’s probably why Reason brought race into it.

      1. Marty Feldman's Eyes   7 years ago

That’s probably why Reason brought race into it.

yeah, Reason didn’t bring race into it, reality did.
