Texas Cops Shoot and Kill 6-Year-Old While Shooting and Killing Woman They Were Chasing
Will apparently be investigating themselves.

A two-hour search for and chase of a woman accused of stealing a car from a man she knew ended in front of a trailer home police say she was trying to break into. Sheriff's deputies fired an undetermined number of times at her, hitting her as well as 6-year-old Kameron Prescott, who was in the home.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, while the boy died after being taken to a hospital.
"I can definitively tell you that myself and all the deputies involved, there's not a single one us of that wouldn't trade places with this child," Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar told reporters late Thursday.
The Bexar County sheriff's department is investigating the shooting by Bexar County sheriff's deputies. Salazar said yesterday he hadn't yet talked to the four deputies involved and doesn't know why they shot.
Deputies claim that the woman had earlier pointed a gun at them at least twice—nogun was found on the scene or in a subsequent search. Police say the woman, who they have not identified, swam across a creek and ran through a wooded area before arriving at the trailer park where the police shooting happened.
Salazar noted his department permits deputies to use deadly force against anyone threatening them or others (police and eyewitnesses also say the woman threatened a number of people during her flight), but did not answer questions from reporters about how that policy might apply "if a home is in the line of fire," as the San Antonio Express-News reported.
Awareness of your environment is the fourth of the "Four Rules of Gun Safety."
As HunterEd.com puts it: "If you pull the trigger, you cannot take back the bullet! Everything and everyone in front of, near, and beyond your target is your responsibility. Make sure you have an adequate backstop and never shoot at a flat, hard surface or water."
A GoFundMe was set up for Kameron's family.

"I can definitively tell you that myself and all the deputies involved, there's not a single one us of that wouldn't trade places with this child," Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar told reporters late Thursday.
Bullshit. Actions, not words.
You don't want our cops to end up like this child, do you?
Well, actually, I do--creepy new death sentence plank be damned! Just as politicians teach cops that they have to kill a few citizens as regrettable examples--to make their omelet of sumptuary laws stick--citizens and objective law could teach these trigger-happy yahoos that you can't take back a lethal injection. Holding tax-spending responders liable to the same standards enforced on citizens would make law impartial. Once a few cop union goons have carried caskets of executed murderers-with-badges, their attitude toward collateral damage will suddenly become a lot less mohammedan. Surely These States had seen enough releasing of murderers by mock trial by 1776!
They don't deserve anything as clean as lethal injection.
Send them through a woodchipper. And make the other officers and their families watch.
{starts GoFundMe for croaker's legal defense}
I'm making over $7k a month working part time. I kept hearing other people tell me how much money they can make online so I decided to look into it. Well, it was all true and has totally changed my life.
This is what I do... http://www.onlinecareer10.com
Isn't there a constitutional directive on types of punishment? How 'bout if they push the plunger real slow?
No. That's gross and too far. They should be held,to the same standards as the ordinary citizen with VERY rare exceptions for mitigating circumstances. AND so should prosecuting attorneys. And the proper response to a police spokesman saying "All department proceedures were followed" in the case of an innocent death that would be inexcusable at the hands of an ordinary citizen should be "Then you must fire the moron who wrote the proceedures."
I know this is yet another example of police run amok, but let's not Fargo our principles.
They should kill themselves.
Technically they'd need to resurrect the kid in order for that to count as "switching places".
Unless you meant... oohhhh.
I concur
An Austin band, the Uranium Savages, recorded "Kill Yourself"... they also recorded a remix of "On the Bayou" describing the Houston police murdering people and tossing them into Buffalo Bayou. Government minions found a way to stop deejays all over Texas from playing the song on the air.
"Awareness of your environment is the fourth of the 'Four Rules of Gun Safety.'"
Hey, man, we Texans can't even remember the third thing on our lists; expecting us to remember fourth things is just unfair.
I think it's the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit, and environmental awareness.
Ah, that explains this: Texas made environmental awareness illegal as a retort to the Kyoto Accords.
Fair enough. I did notice that the Mexican Catholics out of Texas always just cite a Trinity
They've assimilated into our petro-fascist culture much better than they're given credit for.
You and your land is solely responsible for their fall from grace. You destroyed the original Edenic land that was Mexico when you stole Texas.
Nah, the sandspurs were already here.
The Bexar County sheriff's department is investigating the shooting by Bexar County sheriff's deputies. Salazar said yesterday he hadn't yet talked to the four deputies involved and doesn't know why they shot.
I am sure this will lead to a fair and equitable outcome where the deputies will be held accountable for their actions.
Don't you worry, they'll get their medals and commendations.
Yeah, right. Not.
Obviously the Sheriff's Department itself is best equipped to investigate the issue. They know the policies, procedures and most importantly the character of the deputies involved, something an independent authority would be oblivious to.
I'm pretty sure they'll come up with some new training that will solve the problem.
FIFY
"Salazar said yesterday he hadn't yet talked to the four deputies involved and doesn't know why they shot."
LOL. They shot an unarmed woman and a totally innocent kid and he'll get around to talking to them at some point. It's the holidays and all, you know.
If I had ever fucked up that bad at my job my boss would pretty much have wanted to talk to me about it right the fuck now.
Perhaps dunphy could explain Garrity to us again.
"If I had ever fucked up that bad at my job my boss would pretty much have wanted to talk to me about it right the fuck now"
You must be pretty tight w your boss. If most folks murdered two people on the job no one would want to talk to them ever again.
Can This sort of monstrous violence & hypocrisy be sustainable? How much longer can the electorate both believe themselves to be members of a free society & be murdered, robbed, kidnapped, spat on, insulted, etc etc by the representatives of that free society?
Bexar County's finest.
"I can definitively tell you that myself and all the deputies involved, there's not a single one us of that wouldn't trade places with this child"
When a reporter inquired why they weren't a little more reluctant to open fire, the deputy asked the reporter why they were in favor of killing cops, and then charged said reporter with resisting arrest.
Split second decision - chilling effect = GOOD SHOOT!
fuck
"single one us of that wouldn't trade places with this child,""
That can be arranged, good sir.
Well, half of the trade can get done, anyway. The other half not so much.
Half a loaf is better than none.
Just have to try it out in good faith. Their shoot was in good faith -- they want us to believe in their good faith -- isn't that good enough for them too?
The boy's body can be moved, exhumed, ashes removed and theirs put in his place. It's not that hard.
"I can definitively tell you that myself and all the deputies involved, there's not a single one us of that wouldn't trade places with this child,"
Works for me asshole.
"Uh, speak for yourself, chief. The little boy had it coming!"
Well, in their defense, a woman breaking into a residence (and who has her back to cops chasing her outside) is a serious threat to officer safety and must be met with deadly force.
Where are the copsucker trolls that usually show up for these stories? "If that kid had obeyed the lawful orders of the law enforcement officers officers he'd still be alive. None of the other kids in the trailer got shot."
Don't want to get shot like a thug? Don't let crazy people invade your home like a thug. (Did I do that right?)
So did the Grinch steal PMLinkmas?
Damn.
So sad.
RIP little guy.
""I can definitively tell you that myself and all the deputies involved, there's not a single one us of that wouldn't trade places with this child," Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar told reporters late Thursday."
sorry, I don't believe that.
Well, if not that, how about
"All the deputies involved, there's not a single one that wouldn't accept suspension or firing for taking that kids' life, and not go whining to the union."
I mean, it's a lot less that giving your life so surely we WON'T hear "The officers are appealing the suspensions." or "The officers are suing to get their jobs back.". Right?
Since this is in Texas they might not even have a union.
What? No weapon was found. You mean to tell me that none of the four was carrying a throw away piece specifically for times exactly like this. Amateurs, don't they know the donut tosser rule? The cop who brings the gun to toss on the crime scene gets his coffee and donuts paid for by the rest of the group for a full month. Is that so hard?
This is Texas.
Its like Kyle trying to throw the nunchucks away.
"I can definitively tell you that myself and all the deputies involved, there's not a single one us of that wouldn't trade places with this child"
I can't shake my head enough at that. It's because they absolutely refuse to put themselves in the place of the child, that they killed him in the first place. To do that they would have had to place themselves in a situation where they may be attacked or shot at in an attempt to subdue the suspect with the least force until and unless their very survival was at stake. As no weapon was found, it seems they instead they gave priority to their own safety at the expense of the life of the woman they were chasing. It's called public "service" for a reason, and in refusing to serve the public at the expense of their "perceived" safety they killed not only an innocent child but an unarmed woman as well. So no, they wouldn't trade places with the child, they had that opportunity and unloaded their clips into it.
Well, if they only had C-96 broomhandles for armament, I can see why they wouldn't want to take any chances. I mean, the things would have to be at least 3/4s of a century old at this point...
The C-96 is still mag-fed. Sure, the mag is non-detachable, and you load it with clips, but it's still mag-fed.
They didn't truly fear for their lives. We all know that's something that is, by training, written on reports to justify use of deadly force. This has all the makings of law enforcement officers using their firearms as compliance tools (in other words, devices of punishment). I do believe they genuinely feel sorry for the death of the child. However, what comes next will be boilerplate. Calls for investigations and consequences will cause a persecution complex to replace any remorse. Civilians have no idea how dangerous it is for police. You weren't there. Everything was done according to training and policy. And so on.
Yeah. If they didn't want to wantonly kill people, they'd stop doing it. It's likely they were congratulating each other on killing the woman before they knew they had also hit the kid.
Time to dissolve the police forces nationwide and replace them with a police service corps dedicated to actually serving the public and protecting life.
+1 Target
Merry Christmas everyone!
Good point. I'll wager nary a one of them trigger-happy deputies is a Ramadan Mohammedan. The trailer/mansion distinction is also well taken.
Good job. You've proven that Islam is indeed a "religion of peace". Nice intellectual rigor there.
The important point is they all feel very bad. Cops always go easy on killers who feel bad about what they did.
/sarc
Of course, the key word in the story is "trailer." They wouldn't have shot into Richie Rich's mansion if there was the slightest possibility of someone (other than a servant) being in there.
Nuh-uh, we have the police owned and controlled by The People instead of Evul Private Contractors specifically so that won't happen. Don't you know anything?
A GoFundMe was set up for Kameron's family.
Is there a GoFundMe to buy the cops a trailer with non-bullet resistant walls? You know, in case they're serious about their willingness to trade places with the kid.
In what in this context is a cheerful off-topic distraction, the UN Security Council approves mandatory airport security measures for all United Nations members.
One of Volokh's contributors (Stewart Baker) enthusiastically explains:
"For twenty years, the United States has been advocating for the advance screening of air travelers using data like passport numbers, biometrics, and reservation data (known as PNR, or passenger name records). The Bush and Obama administrations struggled to advance this initiative against passive and active international resistance.
"Yesterday, the Trump Administration did what its predecessors could not.
"It obtained a unanimous resolution on travel data from the Security Council. The resolution instructs UN member states to require that airlines transmit passport data to destination governments. It requires all states to "collect, process and analyse" PNR, and it encourages them to share the data with other relevant and concerned governments. It requires the development of watchlists of terror suspects to be used at the border and encourages the sharing of watchlist information. Finally, the order requires states to collect fingerprints, photos, and other biometric data to identify terrorists."
So if I were to call the president of a country that shares a name with a common deli meat a big poopy-head on Twitter, he'd now be able to ban me from mass transportation in the US by putting me on the new international terrorism watch list?
There's a country called horseflesh?
/ha ha just kidding
Now you're catching on -- -- --
Stewart Baker has always been a statist shitheel. Not sure why Volokh puts up with him.
I asked about this, and a friend said it's probably related to him having stood up for cryptography, specifically against the Clinton Clipper Chip. Remember that? I've got t-shirts for that.
My theory is that Baker saves Volokh from having to invent statist shitheel strawmen.
Maybe the foreigners could slap a tariff on US exports of prohibitionism?
The Bexar County sheriff's department is investigating the shooting by Bexar County sheriff's deputies.
Haven't those deputies suffered enough already? They're physically shaken.
This is what zero accountability reaps.
Uh-huh. Very plausible.
Absolutely. No doubt.
Where is the belt/suspenders mandate from Congress? This habit of pulling up sagging pants is a national crisis. Cops cannot be expected to hold their fire until they have confirmation of a weapon.
Helicopters are required to fly above 500 feet. Am I the only one who thinks this seems like a lot of detail for a pilot located at least 500 feet away?
Um, no. Helicopters are required to fly at an altitude which would allow for a safe forced landing in the event of engine failure. This is much less than 500 feet, depending on airspeed.
I do think this pilot is absolutely full of shit.
Ahh, okay, the 500 foot limit I saw was for aircraft over non-congested areas, missed there was a helicopter exception.
Regardless, the pilot didn't see shit.
"The pilot of a Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter circling overhead also reported the woman reached for her waistband several times, indicating she may be armed, the sheriff said."
I don't know how most peoples arms work, but mine come out of my upper torso and naturally angle down toward my waste. In fact the least normal thing for my arms to do is to not be reaching for my waistband, and if they are not, does that mean I am acting erratically.
ehh, I blew that one, I should have went with a joke about how can you reach for your waist if you don't have arms.
Ah. Hence the reference to "an armed suspect".
The deputies all made it home safely that day. That is the most important point, right?
Right?
The lives of poor white kids who live in trailer parks are less valuable than poor black kids in cities. At least they get press coverage.
Hopefully some ISIS wannabe finds these cops and serves them justice.
I can definitively tell you myself that it's reaaaall easy to make promises you know can't be fulfilled.
Thanks a lot, Ed.
And a very Merry Christmas to you too.
THOSE WITHOUT SIN - KNEEL!
Its like these people get off on this idiocy.
To keep the tragedy in context. In Austin this is regarded as a normal Sanantone news report. If you roll up a copy of the SA Express-News and twist it, blood runs out the end.
Policy - even unwritten - supersedes law.
"whether that policy changes if a family home is in the line of fire."
Of course, but this was not a family *home,* it was a *trailer.* As in "trailer trash." Why does anyone care what happens to *those* people?
/sarc
The giant financial judgment against this stupid police department should be paid out of its pension fund. Watch as the silent majority of decent cops suddenly start to force out their reckless, idiot colleagues!
Too far removed. 50% garnishment of net pay for all officers in the department from that stupid redneck Sherriff on down until it is paid off. That will adjust some attitudes.
Worth a try.
Makes you wonder if some cops ride around with Knopfler's Kingdom Come in their heads.
If the "internal investigation" by the police dept. is true to form, they will determine that no disciplinary action will be taken against the offending officers ... cuz 'shit happens'.
For protecting them, by a mock Trial from punishment for any Murders which they should commit on the Inhabitants of these States: (Thomas Jefferson, 1776)
"Our heart goes out blah blah blah, but anyway no further action warranted."
Coz "policy was followed".
I like how the Sheriff calls it a shootout even though only the cops were shooting.
I noticed that spin too.
It's like whenever a cop gets shot, it is ALWAYS referred to as a ambush.
No matter what the circumstances.
"Hero's serving early morning warrant for cultivation, AMBUSHED"!!
Break room jokes-
If we shot the dog it'd been a grand slam.
Someone should send the bitch's mom a bill for the ammo.
I thought I saw Deputy Jason Cooke waiting for the crew to leave.
Do we have enough PTSD forms?
Women and children first...
"I can definitively tell you that myself and all the deputies involved, there's not a single one us of that wouldn't trade places with this child,"
Well, show it. All of you, trade places with the kid. A circular firing squad
With stories like these I'm always reminded of that police training video, where the trainer tells the class that the best sex they'll ever have is right after taking someone's life.
Somewhere in Texas, there's a deputy furiously jacking off over the woman and child he's slain.
Somewhere in texas, a well worn rubber stamp that says 'Justified' is reached for, by a fat bureaucrat.
Oh, Jesus. That poor kid. Humans high on adrenaline don't make good decisions.
How sad. The poor child. And right before Christmas too. Just terrible. 🙁
So if a person is shooting at a cop from in front of a group of children the cop may shoot away to bring down the shooter? Are these cops trained in the fact that a bullet can go through a trailer wall and still have deadly force? They should know this anyway. I've read an FBI stat asserting that the average range for hitting a person with a pistol is about 11 feet. How far away were the cops? Are they trained to now that and whatever the stats are at the range they were at?
So, that's what 'heros' do, shoot unarmed women and innocent kindergarteners.
They served and protected the hell out of 'em!
I trust the accolades and commendation ceremonies will be public?
"Salazar noted his department permits deputies to use deadly force against anyone threatening them or others..."
So, a verbal threat justifies being shot to death by the police? No visible weapon necessary? Either that's BS or the laws are more messed up than I thought they were!
Shooting a woman in the back. Damn cops are getting to be more cowardly by the day.
"Collateral Damage," that is what we military folks call a situation like this one when we are forced to shoot in a war zone and innocent third parties get killed or injured...oh, wait,
...the cops ,who have also been trained to behave like us military folks in a war zone, also call it "collateral damage"
...ok, Baghdad City, Iraq, Bexar County, Texas, Baghdad City, Iraq, Bexar County, Texas...all the same when you train, think and are trained to think and act like us military folks in a war zone...ok, next time, duck, kid...ooops too late!
Actual warzones have stricter RoE than American cops follow today.
