Syria's Secret Crematorium, Another Travel Ban Court Hearing, N.C. Voter ID Law Is Dead: P.M. Links
-
AY-COLLECTION/SIPA/Newscom The United States government believes that Syria has a large crematorium to conceal mass atrocities. The State Department is calling on Russia to do something about it.
- President Donald Trump's call for a ban on Muslim immigrants on the campaign trail came back to haunt the administration yet again today in a federal appeals court hearing in Seattle on his executive order barring travel from several countries.
- The Supreme Court declined to hear a North Carolina voter ID law case, which effectively kills the law. A lower court had determined that it deliberately discriminated against black voters and poor minorities by allowing use of some government-issued identification methods (driver's licenses) but not others (public assistance cards).
- President Trump will have the White House lit up in blue tonight in honor of police officers killed in action last year. He also complained that police are subject to "unfair defamation and vilification."
- Meanwhile, an unarmed, erratically behaving man died in Las Vegas after being Tasered, punched several times, and put in a "neck restraint" hold by police there.
- I was on vacation last week and wasn't around to blog the Kentucky T-shirt shop that won a court case after refusing to print shirts with pro-gay messages. Read more about the case here and why it's legally distinct from wedding cake cases (mind you, whether it should be distinct is a whole different question). The Supreme Court is still considering whether to take on a case over whether it's legal for a baker to refuse to make cakes for same-sex weddings. They punted again this morning on making a decision.
- Speaking of which, support for legal gay marriage recognition among Americans has reached a new high—64 percent, according to a new Gallup poll.
- BREAKING! Sources told the Washington Post that President Trump revealed classified intel about the fight against the Islamic State to the Russian foreign minister and ambassador who visited him at the White House last week.

Speaking of which, support for legal gay marriage recognition among Americans has reached a new high?64 percent...
"Recognition" is why Shackleford is my favorite.
You just want to stay on his good side. The alternative... *shudder*
I've been consistent on this phrasing, as has Shlackford.
All I know is I've seen his wrath descend on at least one commenter, and it was pretty epic.
Oh, that was probably just John.
So the country is still 36% assholes?
I think everyone here will think that number sounds optimistically low.
So the country is still 36% assholes?

All values are subjective
Make that 36.0000001%.
But of the remaining 64%, what percentage are dicks and what percentage are pussies?
I could never just pick one Reason author, but a perfect genetic amalgamation on the otherhand, something like:
-Robby's hair
-ENB's face
-KMW eyes
-Gillepsie's Jacket
-Dalmia's body
-Shackford's hand's
There needs to be a second reporting button in addition to the one for spam.
Other sites call it a "Like" button.
I have long advocated for a "fuck off, slaver" button, as well as a "would" button.
No "nuke it from orbit" button?
Dalmia's body?
As long as her lips are not included. She would be mumbling about wide open borders.
Well, not necessarily, they might be busy... ya know what, I won't go there
Hello.
Hey Rufus - do you make your own maple candies?
Always with the euphemisms, Crusty.
With a special sauce too!
In Canada, all sauces are gravy or maple syrup.

An evil cenotaph?
Not to be confused with cenobites, which are not evil, just different.
They'll tear your soul apart though!
Also your face and balls.
Also your face and balls.
Question: will they tear apart my face and balls?
Twice,
I was on vacation last week and wasn't around to blog the Kentucky T-shirt shop that won a court case after refusing to print shirts with pro-gay messages.
The internet is everywhere, Shackelfrod.
President Donald Trump's call for a ban on Muslim immigrants on the campaign trail came back to haunt the administration yet again today in a federal appeals court hearing in Seattle on his executive order barring travel from several countries.
The more this happens the less shocking it becomes though? Besides I don't think shit like this flips anyone on their already well ingrained political dogmas.
President Trump will have the White House lit up in blue tonight in honor of police officers killed in action last year.
Removing the white from the White House isn't going to make the alt-right very happy!
You think? I always thought the other 364 days it was just left white to honor the victims of nonconsensual bukake.
President Trump will have the White House lit up in blue tonight in honor of police officers killed in action last year. He also complained that police are subject to "unfair defamation and vilification."
I'll say one "good" thing about Trump. He knows exactly how to play to his base.
Which is quite the feat with those short fingers.
Which piece is the 'base' on a quantum chess board?
Oh what a tangled web we weave
when first we practice to deceive
or something like that. Too lazy to google the exact quote.
President Trump will have the White House lit up in blue tonight in honor of police officers killed in action last year. He also complained that police are subject to "unfair defamation and vilification."
What fucking defamation? These people can kill cripples in the street and still get awarded medals.
If you can't stand the time don't be a cripple and do the crime. And by crime, I mean assert your civil rights to police.
The quote is "if you can't do the time, die."
Or something like that.
Except he specifically mentioned "unfair" defamation and vilification. Of which there has been plenty.
The national media and the #BLM crowd has been so consistent in choosing the wrong cases to champion that it leads one to suspect that they are actually trying to create division and enmity rather than highlighting injustice. So their top mantras are "Hands up, don't shoot" and "Skittles and iced tea" - two cases that are murky at best, and probably don't illustrate any systematic abuse or racism.
Meanwhile, cases like Guerreno, Nehad and Thomas got little national attention, and even Tamir Rice got much less attention than "hands up, don't shoot'. These were all clear and simple cases of police being reckless with other people's lives or even callously murdering innocent people - all defended by their departments as following procedures and acting properly. They are much better representatives of the need for reform.
Meanwhile, A police officer was recently convicted in the murder of a 6 year old autistic boy in Louisiana in an action that was initially called self-defense. Ever heard of it? No. Because there's no racism angle. And no controversy to be stirred up.
So Trump (maybe accidentally) gave a nod to the notion that police are being vilified for the wrong things. Michael Brown certainly isn't the right guy to use as your poster boy for "racist cops are running around killing unarmed black people for no reason".
A lower court had determined that it deliberately discriminated against black voters and poor minorities by allowing use of some government-issued identification methods (driver's licenses) but not others (public assistance cards).
While a highly racist assumption on the part of the opponents of the law, I can see that as an unnecessary problem from lawmakers.
I think it's interesting that the appeals court considered a SNAP card to be a valid form of identification, considering the fraud that occurs within that program.
I will patiently await their ruling that says a snap card or library card is adequate for boarding a plane or purchasing a firearm. Not entirely clear if it is wise to hold me breath waiting for this ruling.
that would imply that the court has no principles.
President Donald Trump's call for a ban on Muslim immigrants on the campaign trail came back to haunt the administration yet again today...
Well, it got him elected, didn't it?
Meanwhile, an unarmed, erratically behaving man died in Las Vegas after being Tasered, punched several times, and put in a "neck restraint" hold by police there.
The necessary steps needed to protect someone from hurting themselves...
Hi, we're from the government and we're here to help. Let us do that for you.
You know who else likes to put people in a neck restraint? There is a correct answer.

The Supreme Court declined to hear a North Carolina voter ID law case, which effectively kills the law. A lower court had determined that it deliberately discriminated against black voters and poor minorities by allowing use of some government-issued identification methods (driver's licenses) but not others (public assistance cards).
This smells like one of those things that if you dug deep into the story, the public assistance cards may have been poor measures of voter eligibility hence their exclusion.
But I do understand the concern as only black people are on public assistance.
It's worth noting that the Supreme Court will very, very likely be hearing a similar case out of Texas once it winds its way up there. This case presented all sorts of crazy procedural issues that made it a bad candidate for deciding the underlying Voting Rights Act questions. The Texas one doesn't have those same procedural problems.
So is a driver's license. Unless they started checking for citizenship?
Fun fact: I was once denied a passport because I didn't have a drivers license in addition to my birth certificate, despite the fact that the state's non-driver ID requires the exact same proof of identity as the drivers license. But try arguing "facts" with a Fed.
Wait, only drivers are allowed to exit the country? Interesting.
Driver's licenses have not been used solely for driving since they were just paper and no picture.
Wow, seriously? That's insane, since the ID is intended to be the exact same type of identification. Can't say I'm surprised though. Never throw a bureaucrat a curve ball.
Well, they are poor measures of eligibility, but eligibility (theoretically) is supposed to be checked in the registration process.
More importantly, they're inferior verifications of identity -- because they don't have photos on them. You walk into a polling station with an EBT card, how do they know that the card is yours? I mean, it does mean you jumped a higher hurdle than just declaring your identity -- if you're a phony, you needed to steal or fake a card with the voter's name -- but it's not as hard as getting a passable fake driver's license with the right name and a passable picture of you on it.
But really, the state shouldn't bother declaring what forms of ID are specifically valid. Simply set the standard, explicitly, to "identification valid under Federal law to purchase a firearm from a licensed dealer and/or board a commercial airline flight". if the Federal Government is not unduly burdening the established rights to bear arms or to travel with such requirements, then how can the state be unduly burdening the right to vote with an explicitly identical requirement?
They'll just say that denying the right to vote is strict scrutiny while denying RKBA is intermediate scrutiny, or whatever bullshit non-constitutional explanation they feel like using today.

What an effin' mess!
When you start down the slippery slope of "public accommodation" and "protected class" then, yeah, you'll start making big messes because there's no logic to it from the beginning. Trying to apply logic to it won't work.
Not to be confused with an elfin mess, which what happens when Santa is away on business.
Which is not to be confused with an "Elfman mess", which was the television program Dharma & Greg.
Don't forget about the soundtrack to Peewee's Big Adventure.

Reading between the lines here; maybe it's time to open a bakery.
Feminist icon Gloria Steinem blasts Ivanka Trump for not 'standing up' for women, as she compares the self-proclaimed feminist's maternity care program to NAZI policy
Wait, what? I was distracted by the McKayla Maroney article in the sidebar.
Ah, should have refreshed.
Go on...
You know who else pays women to have children?
Any country that offers a tax break for dependents?
I wonder why feminists in America don't go after that one...
So does Fkoria Steinem believe men have the same rights as to whether or not to have children as women? Greater rights? Or lesser?
A feminist, she told Refinery29, is someone 'who believes in the full equality of the sexes'
"Unless a woman commits violence against a man, then he has to sit there and take it. And even though we don't need no man to raise our children, don't you dare miss a single child support or alimony payment or your life will be ruined."
"her actions and public statements don't actually line up with feminist dogma..."
Well she admits feminism is a dogma. I'm not sure if that's progress or regress.
'Get inspired by how I give ZERO f***s!' McKayla Maroney proudly takes credit for posting a racy video that sees her dancing in a THONG after fans thought the Instagram footage was hacked
I give it a 5 1/4.
I just want to spank her.
Well... I'll be in my bunk.
Count on you and the Daily Mail to bring us this schlock. It's pathetic, "Chad."
*saves for later*
Instagram commenters also accused McKayla of having butt implants
Uh huh. Quit using Caitlin Jenner as your baseline, internet commenters.
I'll gladly do me while watching her do her.
Conan O'Brien Headed to Trial Over Claims of Stealing Jokes
Ok. So why hasn't Schumer been hauled into court yet?
Cause they don't want to risk all those workers' comp claims.
'Cause she's woke.
Her dad's second cousin would somehow get involved and who needs that bullshit.
For a minority party Senator, Chuck Schumer is always being carried by the news for saying some stupid crap.
God, poor Conan. He just can't get a break. Must be because he has Irish genes? ^_-
Every Gaelic song ever about bad Irish luck.
And yet Mencia walks free.
President Donald Trump's call for a ban on Muslim immigrants
C'mon. Chump wasn't calling for a "ban" ban. He uses words creatively because he's a businessman, an outsider if you will. Holding presidents to a consistent, coherent philosophy is old-fashioned and frankly quite proggish.
Chump and General Cheeto? You have a gift.
Ah, remember the good old days when mocking the hue of the president's skin was considered unacceptable? Where have the standards gone?
Lena Dunham's Trainer Tracy Anderson Says She Wanted to 'Feel Better' and Not Make Her Body 'Look Different'
Uh huh.
takes a bit more fitness to look better than it does to feel better.

Lena Dunham Defends Conway: Insulting Women's Looks 'Prevents Real Discourse'
When the ugly bitch is right, she's right.
Finally she says something of value.
Well, except for where she insulted Kellyanne Conway's looks, sure.
I honestly couldn't say since I don't pay any attention to her, but I wonder if she's almost counting on that when she says shit like this?
Baby, steps. Baby steps for the retards, Diane.
"Or are we all just pretending to want real discourse?" she concluded.
What do you think?
Ugly? Come now Crusty you don't need to pretend around us.
Slate even ran an article titled "Here's Everything Samantha Bee Has Called Donald Trump on Full Frontal" ? a list that included such names as "Big hairy orange villain" and "Melting hunk of uninformed apricot Jell-O." But when TBS, the network that runs Full Frontal, tweeted a video comparing Clinton's laugh to that of a hyena, Bee tweeted back "Delete your account."
I wasn't expecting Lena Dunham to be more aware and appear more emotionally stable than Samantha Bee, but I'm glad there's at least one prominent woman pointing out the hypocrisy. I'm kinda proud of her. Not too many more articles like this, Crusty, I don't want to turn into a fan :-/
Maybe you should read some of the articles sober sometime? You'll be surprised what it's like without the impaired judgement.
If being sober would make me dream up the Franken-author described above... no thanks
"And while appearance-based attacks are generally aimed at women..."
Citation needed. I know it's accepted as conventional wisdom among feminists, but it seems to me that the only real difference is in how people respond. Male public figures are routinely mocked for being old, fat, bald, short, having bad hair, being unkempt, etc. The difference is, when you mock a woman's appearance there's an armada of feminists who flip their collective shit, while when you mock a man's appearance, no one really cares.
It's one of those 'phenomena' (like women supposedly being interrupted more by men than vice versa) that has worked its way into the catalog of accepted truths, but no one has ever actually demonstrated to be true.

BREAKING! Sources told the Washington Post that President Trump revealed classified intel about the fight against the Islamic State to the Russian foreign minister and ambassador who visited him at the White House last week.
Oh, c'mon, man! If the foreign minister and ambassador don't have top-level security clearances, who does? I can't imagine what Trump might have been telling them that they didn't already know and didn't have the background checks to be trusted to know - these are some pretty high-ranking government officials, aren't they?
BREAKING! Sources told the Washington Post that President Trump revealed classified intel about the fight against the Islamic State to the Russian foreign minister and ambassador who visited him at the White House last week.
Fun fact: firing the director of the FBI in an embarrassing way will result in the leaking of every stupid thing Trump and his people do.
Fun Fact: Trump will always be the target of stuff true and untrue because some people cannot stand that he is not listening to the establishment.
Fun fact: Trump will always be the target of stuff true and untrue because he's such a big fat target and he makes those funny squealing noises - "Unfair! Sad! Lies!" - when he gets poked.
FTFY:
Fun Fact: Trump HilLIARy will always be the target of stuff true and untrue because he's such a big fat target and he makes those funny squealing noises - "Unfair! Sad! Lies!" - when he gets poked.
You know, it seems like this would be a ripe situation for a no-kidding whistleblower to openly go on the record about actual violations of federal law and executive order regarding classified information spillage, rather than passive-aggressive leaks to the gossip-mongering press whores.
But, at this point, what difference does it make? These "officials" were perfectly willing to let Hillary skate on her own violations over a tortured explanation of mens rea that clearly didn't apply either in action or in the letter of the law. Getting huffy over Trump spilling classified beans to the Russkies is little more than selective outrage. If they want to show they're serious about this shit, lock them both up.
The best part about this little incident will be watching leftists suddenly act like they give a shit about the government protecting state secrets, same as it's been amusing watching them come to the defense of the surveillance state and its mandarins in the last year.
No, it's going to be the Trumptards rationalizing why this is not big deal in a way that reveals how the whole e-mail thing from last year was purely a tactical position for the election and not because they actually cared about Clinton's mishandling of sensitive data.
No, it's going to be the Trumptards rationalizing why this is not big deal in a way that reveals how the whole e-mail thing from last year was purely a tactical position for the election and not because they actually cared about Clinton's mishandling of sensitive data.
Yeah, it couldn't possibly be that the whole rule of law in Clinton's case was undermined for political purposes, rendering its enforcement a moot point.
And vice versa...
Clinton's mishandling of sensitive data
THAT'S DIFFERENT!!
/glibs
A co-worker says Hillary's email server was not in the same league as anything Trump has done, that it was never hacked, that all the alleged classified emails are just alternative facts. This last little bit came out in a huff as he got tired of being, ahem, trumped. "You are not entitled to alternate facts!"
One way to signal end of argument.
Did you call that person a retard in response?
Except the three people who were actually there, the national security advisor, his deputy, and the secy of state, have all denied the Washington Post reports, which are based solely on secondhand anonymous sources, some of whom could not possibly have been there (former officials).
Other Articles have stated that the "classified" info Trump shared with Russia was about ISIS. A group both nations are having problems with.
Side note the President is the last arbiter of what is and isn't classified.
If the info did reveal people that it shouldn't then that is a problem and typical stupid but it wasn't a problem to the left when Obama revealed the people that helped us find Osama Ben laden
Not to mention that we share classified info with our allies -- and even our not-so-allies -- ALL. THE. FUCKING. TIME.
I have no doubt that Obama gave China classified info on North Korea's missile program. Bush shared classified info on Iraq with our good friends the Saudis, the people who run that bastion of liberal, tolerant, pro-American democracy.
Hell, during World War II we gave intel to the Soviets in addition to millions of tons of supplies, weapons, and food.
What this latest "scandal" boils down to is that Trump gave out info that some McMullin fanboi at the CIA didn't think was kosher and so he leaked it to the Media and the WaPo, ever eager to start a Trumpest in a Teacup, took the bait.
Not to mention that we share classified info with our allies -- and even our not-so-allies -- ALL. THE. FUCKING. TIME.
But that decision is usually made by people who, let's hope, know what we should and shouldn't tell who. Lets face it- is there *anyone* that thinks Trump is competent to make that call?
Well, anyone who voted for him to be President declared him to be competent to make the call. So, well, tens of millions of people?
NPR just stated that the information was from one of our allies in that region, and that sharing this information could cause them trouble with Russia in the future.
Dunno about all that, but this DOES seem pretty stupid of him.
NPR just stated that the information was from one of our allies in that region, and that sharing this information could cause them trouble with Russia in the future.
Would this "ally" happen to be one of the "rebel" groups we armed that melts like snow in the desert at the slightest resistance and commits the same atrocities as ISIS? Because I could see how that might get them in trouble with the Russians.
What was the source of that information? NPR's left ass cheek, I'm guessing?
David Post over at Volokh has gone full retard, wanting to invoke section 4 of the 25th Amendment:
I had better opinions of the Volokh Conspirators, other than Stewart Baker and a couple who only come out of the woodwork to cry "Anti-Semitism" every time there's the slightest disparagement of anything Israel. This one takes the cake.

ACLU Demands Records on Comey Firing
What possible nexus does the Comey firing have with civil liberties? Other than that Comey was a liberty-violating hack who we should be glad to see go?
