Where the Gary Johnson/William Weld Libertarian Presidential Campaign Goes From Here
Raising money, building an organization, fighting to get in the polls, and selling themselves as the best of both major parties.
The Gary Johnson campaign is going to live or die for now on earned/free media, candidate and staff indicated in interviews at the Libertarian Party National Convention this weekend.
But first, says campaign manager Ron Nielson right after vice presidential candidate William Weld won his nomination on Sunday, "we need to reorganize everything over the next few days. We were set up for this part [winning the Libertarian nomination], and now the organization needs to be something totally different."

Nielson says they'd gotten $80,000 pledged already just that day, "so, nice for us. We'll be concentrating on mass media, particularly social media, we have to keep up in those areas. We will hire more staff, but it's mainly going to be those areas."
He says that physical appearances, "unless it's a big place," aren't a top priority. Johnson had told me he knew nothing about plans for hiring any particular issue advisers. Johnson had suggested in interviews with me a couple of weeks ago that "$50 million" is what they might need to run a serious campaign that could win.
At that same time, he said at a press conference at the convention that he is leery of SuperPACs since they, by law, don't and can't coordinate messaging with the candidate or his campaign. He groused about an ad from 2012 that caused "my own brother to call and tell me, 'you flushed your brand.' Then he called back: 'Oh, was that a SuperPAC?'"
Whenever Johnson was asked about "reaching out" to any constituency outside the L.P., he stressed it's just not in his nature or personality to do much of that; that he doesn't like to "go on bended knee" and that he thinks particular interest groups who need what his campaign has to offer should come to him.
Johnson particularly doesn't like personal fundraising, and Weld is pretty explicitly tasked with that. Weld alluded a couple of times to his past as a finance chairman for Romney campaigns, and though I did not hear this myself someone at the convention tells me they heard Weld allude to a possible "future" relationship with Romney, meant to imply he might bring him in as an explicit supporter of the Johnson/Weld campaign. Johnson credits Weld with having raised over a quarter billion over his political career, compared to Johnson's mere eight million. Weld said he had not yet begun reaching out to anyone for money until cinching the nomination.
Weld says he hopes he and Johnson can consistently "speak truth to power" in the context of the campaign. While I overheard him saying this in conversations with delegates, and not knowingly to reporters, he seems to carry a fair sense of resentment toward what the GOP has become, particularly the social conservative wing. And it's not just about Donald Trump. He said in a press conference after his win that he has "never joined the Nevertrumps" and even said that he thought in some ways Trump "did a lot of good for the Republican Party" though no one was able to ask a followup to clarify what that might be.
Mending fences with some angry Libertarians is at least part of Weld's mission, though I doubt I central one. I did overhear him assure a delegate that he did not support assault weapon bans.
Their messaging, if what they said at the L.P. convention is a meaningful preview, will stress Johnson's conventional formula of "socially liberal, fiscally conservative" and even taking that to stress that in a way, what they really represented was the best of both major parties, in a voter-pleasing combination neither Trump nor Clinton could deliver.
Johnson said in that press conference that he does not feel obligated to push instantly for the most radical ends of Libertarian platform ideas. "We will articulate the goal, if you will, and as pragmatists we will sign on to anything that makes things better, even if not every part of the platform. We will articulate the goal…but also recognize reality and the fact that reaching that goal may not be accomplishable, but here is what might be accomplishable tomorrow."
They can be "dogmatic on libertarian principle," Johnson says, but on "the degree to accomplish those" realize that "getting from A to D is better than just sticking at A." (Even if it isn't all the way to a libertarian "z".)
Asked if they might strategize on trying to flip certain states for actual Electoral College votes in the press conference after Weld's win, Johnson said "that really depends on resources. Modern day campaigning can be all about social media, taking advantage of free media, I'll be flying to New York" to take advantage of earned media opportunities right after the convention. "The two of us might be in front of 50 million people [on TV] as opposed to being on the ground in front of several thousand."
Then Johnson turned things around on the assembled reporters: "The headline I'd like to see: 'Why Not Include These Guys in the Polls?' What is there to fear? We might get enough attention to actually be a part of the debate? Who should fear that? We're a party of nuts, right? I'm kidding."
The self-deprecation on the L.P. was kidding, but Johnson was serious throughout every conversation I had with him or overheard: polls are key to getting in debates, debates are key to getting attention and votes and vital to any plan for victory. So plan one has to be raising enough of a public profile that not polling about Johnson and Weld will seem absurd.

OT: horrified progs discover that mocking Trump only makes him more popular.
That's exactly how he won the nomination.
It seems kind of obvious in retrospect that to get support from republicans, step 1 should be to make the left hate you.
"If you mock me, I will become more powerful than you could possibly imagine."

Is this the After PM cocktail party?
It's all after pm.
It's always happy hour somewhere!
So the Libertarian Party is running two has-been Republicans on their ticket? That should get everyone excited!
Oh, are we redefining 'has-been' to include two guys from blue states that term-limited out of office? They have more experience and credibility than either Team Red or Team Blue's choice.
I think he's defining has beens as "not trump".
Like there's no elected offices or cabinet positions after "Republican governor".
I've been away for a couple of weeks. I take it SIV is still an unrelenting moron?
It'd take more than a couple weeks to change that.
GO Gary Johnson !!!
I think there's enough people that hate Hilary that would consider a moderate republican like Gary Johnson.
Clearly, as a progressive-ish left-leaning libertarian, there are a few things I don't agree with.
I think he'd make a better President in the following ways:
1. He's a social moderate and a fiscal conservative. I think many Americans feel this way.
2. He has a great success record as two time Governor
3. I think the Republican establishment (and congress in general) will be more willing to work with a white male than a Woman.
4. Many white Americans will feel that they got their country back
5. He's cool about Weed.
6. He's pro choice
7. He's the most reasonable candidate running for President.
If Hilary is re-elected, it's going to be another 8 years of Obama. That is, congress will do NOTHING but try to kick her out of office. They will stone-wall her just as they did to Obama. And remember, Obama got stone-walled on practically every Conservative thing he tried to pass.
GO GARY !!!
You know we, mostly, don't need a sales pitch here, right? Not to be rude, but the only reason you aren't preaching to the choir is because we don't want to hear us sing.
That, and the fact that what's she saying is pretty much bullshit. What Conservative thing did Obama try to pass? Obamacare? Shit.
In the progverse, Bernie Sanders is considered a moderate centrist. Thus it's quite possible they consider ACA a 'conservative' thing.
I'm sure Hillary Clinton is now considered a conservative Democrat to many people. If it keeps trending this way, politics is going to get even worse in the U.S. Democrats will become more and more like European socialists who will work to pass things like universal healthcare and steroid-strength equal pay legislation. The Republican Party might continue towards what we're seeing in some European countries with right-wing parties making there driving issues about restricting trade and immigration, spending and taxes be damned.
If this happens, it's not going to be pretty. Luckily Trump has high negatives, but that doesn't mean a majority of people reject protectionism. Unfortunately Bernie Sanders doesn't have that high of negatives--people aren't that turned off by old-class socialist. It's rather concerning.
Alice, have you considered the fact that Johnson is a capitalist? I mean, he's not socialist, you know that, right? He's not libertarian enough for me, but he's no commie. You do know this, right? Why do you like him more than Bernie? Bernie's not bae?

I forget. Did they die once they crashed into the ocean or once it exploded?
I was a teenager when that happened. Some story.
'when' they crashed.
I'm pretty sure it was the explosion. I was 5.
No.
First it wasn't an explosion. The fuel tank ruptured and was smashed flat by aerodynamic forces. This overstressed the shuttle's frame, and the orbiter disintegrated.
Just before the disintegration, the black box recorded the commander saying, "Uh oh!"
The commander and pilot's emergency air supply was turned on by one of the people seated behind them. Everyone else quickly passed out after the crew cabin decompressed.
Nasa insists that they were all unconscious when the cabin hit the water at 180 mph. It's likely that that is true.
But they were alive when they hit the water, and it was the impact that killed them.
Feynman was a big meanie to NASA.

Explosion. Instantaneously. They most likely never knew what happened.
I remember in school being cajoled into signing a condolence "card" for the teacher. The school administration didn't seem to give a shit about the six non-teachers who died.
I remember, like most NH schoolchildren of the time, watching it unfold before my eyes in class. Then having class canceled.
I was off that day, or at least half the day, because of some weird mid-term exams my grade didn't take.
I remember being irritated that they broke into The Price is Right briefly (like a couple of seconds) before having the wall-to-wall coverage.

What, the Challenger?
My 6th grade class watched it live on a TV in the school library. When it made the "flash-boom", then fragmented ball of smoke i went, "Well, that's too bad". and my teacher got really mad with me and said 'nobody worry its probably nothing' and i was like (to myself) "are you kidding lady? Jeez, adults can't cope with anything." They didn't tell anyone what happened until the late afternoon and by that time there were already "Christa McAuliffe's last words" jokes circulating the school.
"hey what does this do?"
Whoa, sick cool detachment, Mr. Old Man with Asperger's. Were you wearing sunglasses indoors when this went down?
I wasn't describing anything unique about myself. Half the kids weren't even paying attention, much less particularly upset. Do "normal" people burst into tears on cue like North Koreans? Not remotely. Get a grip.
What's this about bursting into tears?
And yes, of course I was wearing Sunglasses indoors. When I wasn't playing the sax shirtless or defending girls from the greaser kids who had switchblades.

I thought it was 1.5% . Did you downgrade their chances?
Where you been? By losing half of libertarians and gaining nothing else, they arrive at half of last elections numbers. Go ahead and get your hopes up if you want, I'm all about optimism myself, except when there's no cause for it.
GayJay isn't even going to outperform Barr/Root this time.
Maybe you missed the part where he's polling at 10-11 percent already. And running against Trump-Clinton. If half the Libertarians don't vote for him, he'll get 40.5 percent instead of 41.0 percent.
GayJay better hope they keep him out of the debate. Once people know who he is that poll number is going to drop below 0.3%

I bet most of the pants shitter holier than thou asshats have never had small children to care for. They are extreme opportunists and ingenious in their methods to escape and elude a parent. I bet the dullest of them could outwit these retards in a few seconds.
I heard the parents are getting death threats. I hate these animal activist sick fucks. I've had the personal fortune to be able to insult a few of them to their stupid faces, it felt good.

I think Major Force or some other Japanese contributor to Mo'Wax (Nigo? Hiro?) back in the mid-90s did an entire EP of tracks based around Planet of the Ape samples. Or maybe it was just something that kept popping in different singles. I can't really remember. It was sort of a joke that i think Futura2000 or some similar ""intl graf" guys morphed into the whole Bathing Ape brand in japan.
Here's a guy doing a mix of a bunch of that stuff. for a while in the late 1990s collecting those japanese mo'wax singles was like its own small subculture.

An animal rights group announced Tuesday that it had requested an investigation by the USDA.
Really? The US Department of Agriculture is who animal rights groups look to at a time like this and there is no hint of irony?
C'mon, it stands for United States' Dumb Asses.
OT: Mexico is making huge improvements to its awful justice system.
"confessions will only be considered valid if made before a judge and backed by forensic evidence. Prosecutors will no longer be able to rely on the probative value the old system granted to police investigations, as their evidence will be considered on equal footing with that of the defense.....Police officers also take on a more prominent role under the new system. They will be responsible for protecting a crime scene and gathering evidence if they arrive there first, taking on duties that previously fell only to agents of the prosecutor's office."
This part amused me: "At the police university in Chilpancingo, hundreds of local policemen have been learning in recent weeks how to make arrests while respecting detainees' rights.
"Many police officers are worried about violating a detainee's rights and being charged," said police Capt. Humberto Cambr?n. "It will take us time to adapt.""

I'm sure they'll quickly learn not to worry about violating anybody's rights.
This? THIS!? This is Kristol's secret weapon in an independent run for the White House? A STAFF WRITER?
"Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol is looking to recruit National Review staff writer and Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran David French for an independent presidential run, sources confirmed Tuesday to Fox News."
http://www.foxnews.com/politic.....cmp=hplnws
Living like we're renegades...
French wrote this about Prince. That is a man with his finger on the pulse of America.
To French only cops are heroes.
Comedian Dave Chappelle called Prince's death the "black 9/11," and he didn't seem to be joking.
Dave Chapelle is still alive?
Yep, he even still does stand-up to sold out crowds. He just couldn't handle being a huge star.
It's who he's been trying to recruit, but it's not official yet.
That's even worse, innit?
Worse how/why?
Kristol is letting Trump Derangement Syndrome overwhelm his sanity. I'm no fan of The Donald, but a third-party GOPe candidate will just effectively toss the election to Her Imperial Majesty Hillary I.
Kristol is a neocon war monger, among the worst of them. He has his candidate in Hillary, why the pants shitting?
Trying to save face? I dunno.
Oddly enough he tokened 'Renegade Party' clear back in early January:

Renegade Party - The ultimate establishment neocons!
Something doesn't quite work there.
This guy is Glenn Beck level retard.
America will never elect a President with that name. Think about it...President French? No effin way.
He needs to change his name to David Liberty.
Kristol is worried about Gary Johnson. He wants to run a fringe conservative to make sure Hillary beats Trump and Johnson.
Seems? doubtful.
French? That's all America needs in power; a cop apologist to expand the police state.

A voice of reason, damn those rat fucking baggers.
They will be killed or arrested. Maybe both if they're really good people.
I don't think so. Neither that they are really good people or that they will be killed or arrested. The next election will see a much more business friendly president elected. Communism is dying, finally, except for in the USA. And the Chinese Communist party don't even pretend to be communists anyone, just failed fascist cronies.

Thank you, sir - I shall have to try to remember the google archive. Some sites will not accept proxy servers and other archives aren't as comprehensive as the goog.
Surely with communications being what they are today, Johnson/Weld could hit the 50 largest metro centers in the course of the campaign while still appearing on whatever national media shows they need to? The state and local LP candidates will get far more publicity about their campaigns (and build party structure for the future) if Johnson and Weld are by their side for media, public and fundraising appearances than if Johnson/Weld decide to spend all their effort in NY, DC and LA.

I think 'breaking skin' is far outside its potential capabilities.

So, not even a remote comprehension of high-school physics then.
GO TO UTAH!
In the last four decades, Utah has been death on Democrat candidates for President; usually where they get their worst percentage of the popular vote and otherwise "merely" second- or third-worst.
It is also where Donald Trump had his worst popular vote performance of any state in this year's primaries, a dismal 14%, in third-and-last place behind Cruz and Kasich.
So even though it's hardly classically "libertarian", it is the place of maximum vulnerability for the current duopoly. Go there, meet the local leaders, and build a serious campaign that can then force the national media to pay attention.
We'll call it the Deseret Exsanguination.
^This^
I would also work on New Mexico, given Johnson's obvious political experience in that state, but also as Trump keeps making news for attacking Susana Martinez, the popular Republican governor.
Yeah, the Mormons who hate Democrats and Donald Trump are going to just positively go squishy for federal agents busting gay-hating bakers and legal pot.
Seriously, do you guys ever think about the retarded shit you say?
Trump attacked Romney, said he wasn't a real Mormon or some such. That's why Trump got hammered there (and in other Mormon heavy states surrounding Utah).
After that, even GayJay can peel off some votes there by saying nice things about Mormons, instead of being a dick to them, especially if they can get Romney on their side.
Totally OT.

They need to start with some practice interviews. "Hello. Thank you for having me. Americans are looking for choice that is fiscally conservative and socially liberal. Trump is dangerous. Thank you. Goodbye." (Then say something unintelligible as the camera is switching back to the host.)
"Johnson's conventional formula of "socially liberal, fiscally conservative""
He's got the social liberal part down, since like a good social liberal he wants to use the government to tell businesses which wedding parties to cater.
And apparently his fiscal conservatism doesn't include saying, "wait, we spend tax money to harass small businesses? why can't we cut *that*?"
"the best of both major parties"
That reminds me of the Simpson's joke about a hybrid creature with the loyalty of a cat and the cleanliness of a dog.
That's why Alice Bowie likes him.
He'll balance the budget with new carbon taxes. See, fiscally conservative.
He's a fiscal conservative like my dog is. He was one of the biggest spending governors in the country on a relative basis.
He was one of the biggest spending governors in the country on a relative basis.
How did he get B's from the Cato Institute on fiscal policy as governor?
He was one of the biggest spending governors in the country on a relative basis.
No, the Democratic legislature that overrode his spending vetoes were the big spenders.
Blaming the guy who says "no" for other people saying "yes" is at best uninformed.
And apparently his fiscal conservatism doesn't include saying, "wait, we spend tax money to harass small businesses? why can't we cut *that*?"
Meh. Entitlement reform is much more important to me in terms of spending. But then again, on my list of priorities public accommodation laws are relatively low. I wonder why they've suddenly become so high on your list since they've been around for decades? Perhaps it's because you're not a racist but you are a homophobe.
OK, governor, I'm not what I'd call your biggest fan, but I certainly would like to see you go up against Trumpary and score a few points against them. And I'd like to see you face the other 3rd party candidates, especially Darrell Castle of the Constitution Party, and may the best person win.
So I feel at liberty to offer a suggestion. Don't go with the BS of the Commission on Presidential Debates - that's a tentacle of the duopoly, representing the interests of the two major parties. They were *set up* to keep people like you away from the debates. They're a "nonprofit," so they have to worry in theory about IRS regulations, and of course if they were a Tea Party outfit they'd have been audited by now, but won't call for them to be harassed from their speech, and I'm sure you're too big for that, Johnson.
But don't play the CPD game. Don't wait for them to exclude you, announce that you're boycotting *them.*
Then call Stossel, ask if a Presidential debate can be arranged on his show. Stoss would invite all the candidates, Trump, Hillary, Johnson, Castle, and the Green guy or gal [probably Stein]. The 3rd party candidates should show up fairly willingly, Trumpery will stay away so as not to legitimize the third party "spoilers," but in that case Stoss should have a contingency plan of having Democratic and Republican celebrities making the case for Trump and Hillary.
Call it the *real* Presidential debate.
Then Stossel can spice things up a bit, add some Jello wrestling or something, he's the expert of doing TV. Just get him on board. Have your people call his people.
If you do this, soon you may see the headlines:

Johnson rises in polls
4 hours later, LP Nominee calls physician
It's a price worth paying if you want your Johnson to have a good election.
Not Craw, C?aw!
Then the entire 7th fleet can crack down on the debates.
Too outlandish, how about the NYPD port Authority?
OK, would you believe two boy scouts in a dinghy?
Lacist
Fairness requires that I acknowledge that Johnson has a better chance than the other 3rd party nominees of slipping in to the CPD debates - if he's the only 3rd party candidate allowed he could grab all the generic "other" voters for himself and leave the other 3rd parties out in the cold.
But I'm sure Johnson would never be such a dick.
I'm sure Johnson will cock up the money shot.
You see, I can get responses to my Johnson jokes, but not to my suggestion for a Stossel debate - even though I'm also thinking of the interests of Castle as well.
(so you can tell I'm totally disinterested, but never mind that)
Oh, you were being serious, sorry.
About Stossel, perfectly serious. But I have some kind of problem with my sense of humor - it's in the gutter.

"He believes that a single-payer plan not only would cut billions in administrative costs, but also would help bring down the high cost of prescription drugs, which he blamed on "greedy" pharmaceutical companies that care more about giving their departing executives lucrative "golden parachute" compensation packages."
http://www.sfgate.com/politics.....955281.php
Fucking ignoramus is as stupid as Tony and Jack combined.
He's right! Drugs don't cost much when they don't exist.
And health-care is cheap if you can't get any.
To paraphrase P.J. O'Rourke's line, "If you think healthcare is expensive now, wait until you see how much it costs when it's free."
More poetry/music of the Nineties
Hail! Bright Cecilia, Hail! fill ev'ry Heart!
With Love of thee and thy Celestial Art;
That thine and Musick's Sacred Love
May make the British Forest prove
As Famous as Dodona's Vocal Grove.
(oops, wrong Nineties)
As long as we're showing 90s music by Henry Purcell:
Damn, I wish I was your lover
I'd rock you 'til the daylight comes
Made sure you are smiling and warm
I am everything, tonight, I'll be your mother
I'll do such things to ease your pain
Free your mind, and you won't feel ashamed
(wait, let me check my notes)
I'm all out of faith
This is how I feel
I'm cold and I am shamed
Lying naked on the floor
OT: Appeals Court Delivers Devastating Blow to Cellphone-Privacy Advocates
Where are Johnson and Weld on this one? Will they be speaking out? How about Rand? Amash?
a legal theory suggesting that consumers who knowingly and willingly surrender information to third parties therefore have "no reasonable expectation of privacy" in that information
Funny how those NDA's worked so well to allow the cops and the feds to keep the big secret about the stingrays they were using to snoop on people, not even revealing to the courts how they obtained their information, though, innit? Kinda like there's one set of rules for them and another set for us.
Is "cell phone location data" the constant data it shares through regularly pinging the closest cell towers, or is it the active GPS data which you have to manually turn on or off?
Yes.
I keep hearing about this Johnson guy and the Johnson/Weld ticket and the LP but I've never seen a link to any sort of real website, like where you could donate money or buy a T-shirt or some yard signs or something so I'm not sure if this whole "election" thing is just a joke or if it's for real. Anybody ever seen a link to a real campaign website here?
This okay?
"We'll be concentrating on mass media, particularly social media"
You mean those media that won't permit hate speech to go viral? Good luck.
"Pelosi grilled by San Francisco middle schoolers on guns, Trump"
[...]
"Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-San Francisco, was happy to answer the students' questions, saying they were "so deep, so thoughtful, so concerned" that she had to remind herself they are graduating from eighth grade, not high school.
[...]
The visit to the Mission neighborhood private school capped the students' yearlong civics project about gun control, which included producing a newspaper, a website and a 1,000-signature petition delivered to Pelosi's local office supporting a range of legislation, including requiring background checks for gun purchases across the nation."

Of course, the darling snowflakes arrived at these conclusions without any coaching at all! Just an expression of their juvenile 'intelligence', and that hag Pelosi agrees with them!

Here's that kinky 90s composer Purcell again:
HOW happy the Lover,
How easie his Chain,
How pleasing his Pain!
How sweet to discover
He sighs not in vain.
For Love ev'ry Creature
Is form'd by his Nature;
No Joys are above
The Pleasures of Love.
Greatest hits of the 1790s
Some kind of trouble on the sensory screen
Camera curves over caved-in cop cars
Bleacher-creatures, would-be desperadoes
Clutch at plausible deniability
Don't touch that dial
We're in denial
Until the showcase trial on TV
Remember back in '92?
O, let me forever weep:
My eyes no more shall welcome sleep.
I'll hide me from the sight of day,
And sigh my soul away.
He's gone, his loss deplore,
And I shall never see him more.
Well, I can't think about any other 90s hits, except
Point blank gin and juice I drank
Gettin' bent and bent and as I puff on a dankt
Rock a mic
Uh oh I crave skin
Rip shit
Find a honey to to dip it in
Slam dunk it stick it flip it and ride
That B double O T Y oh my
Ooh thats it come on come on
Whoomp there it is
I'm done
Again, from '92:
One charming night
Gives more delight
Than a hundred
Than a hundred
A hundred lucky days
One charming night
Gives more delight
Than a hundred
Than a hundred
A hundred lucky days
Night and I
Improve the taste
Make the pleasure longer last
A thousand,
Thousand, thousand,
Thousand, thousand several ways
Where does the libertarian campaign go from here?
First, it sides with Bernie Sanders 73% of the time.
http://hotair.com/archives/201.....-you-know/
"Libertarians agree with socialism as long as it's voluntary."
Say what you will, but Gay Jay isn't some crackpot libertarian theorist who's been nothing but a gadfly in local politics, he actually held a governorship of one of the American Colonies. He knows something about running a mainstream campaign and winning.
True. But all of that is a moot point, because he's not going to win. At best we're looking at 5% nationally, realistically, I doubt even half of that.
Most people will hold their nose and vote for someone with terrible policies because it means someone worse won't win.
What's the point of voting for someone terrible if you know he's not going to win? If you are going to vote for a loser, why not vote for one that actually stands for something?
Here's some real '90's music.
Here's some teenagers listening to some 90's music:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1a4gmuCiqU
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6jCk8P_DyFU
Sadly, they can all recognize songs by The Backstreet Boys, The Spice Girls, and almost all of them recognize a song by Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch.
On the plus side, they don't have a clue about what Ska music is, and can't recognize Ace of Base.
And something a little more recent.
Thank you.

Mr. Doherty, Thanks for the update. I always appreciate your even-handed reporting. Any thoughts as to what Ron Paul thinks of these candidates? Any chance he would campaign or endorse?
Let me ask a question, what's the par for Johnson, this go-'round? At some point, you've got to benchmark his performance against something. Given the unpopularity of the major party candidates, I'm putting it at 3% of the vote. If he can't pull in 3% of the vote this year, I think it's fair to say there might be a problem with Johnson. I mean, he's going out of the convention with something looking damned-near an endorsement from the Wall Street Journal. I'm all for pragmatism in libertarian principle. But, pragmatism that doesn't deliver results is, well, the worst of both worlds. And a lot of what I'm reading in this article doesn't look very promising.
So on my three day trip to Bend, Oregon, I got to do some awesome hiking, see some awesome sites, eat some awesome food, and buy 16 different kinds of weed.
I wasn't allowed to pump my own gas.
To hike this one trail I had to fucking fill out multiple paperwork. A 5.00 parking fee + this thing I had to hang on my mirror so it wouldn't get towed or whatever, then there was this form about your party and how long you were staying. Actually this one is a good idea for if you were staying overnight. Buy my daughter was appalled and pissed. "Why can't we just go fucking walk into the woods?"
Somewhere I heard that this ticket is akin to voting for 'none of the above'. While I don't think that is true, the Clinton/Trump conundrum faced by voters illustrates why every election should have an option for voting for 'none of the above', which, if it were actually on the ballot, I think might actually win this year. In which case we must go back to square one and do the election over, with both candidates disqualified. Yes, that would mean another year of Obama and that is bad. But four years of either Clinton or Trump would be worse. And while it is within imagination that Johnson/Weld might win in Massachusetts, the likelihood of their winning nationwide is pretty slim. And in most elections, NOTA has been, in the past, my candidate and will probably be in the future. I would just like it to have a shot at winning, and that depends on its having a spot on the ballot.
Johnson-Weld sounds like an inappropriate use of super glue.
Step 1: Change the name of the Libertarian Party to the "RINOs and Rejects Party".
Step 2: Form a new party to take the place of the old Libertarian Party.
